Alrighty another update, with a bonus! While I did rough in a little bit of a background, I chose to focus more on colors - as it's what kept my mind happiest. So we're just going to rock with that for the time being, got my grey scale in, and now am adjusting colors/lighting. I am choosing to take some artistic liberties, partly with some of the details, and background. While not having been to Boston (yet) I know the frock coat there on display for John Hancock is a silk velvet. Which is one, luxurious as all heck... and two, it's going to be exceptionally fun (in the good way) to continue to paint because of how much light plays on velvet. I'd have a hard time not just rubbing the turn of the cuffs, which I already tend to do with my coat, or petting the sleeves just to feel the texture... It's the little things ya know? Also having known folks who recreationally use a variety of substances it also makes me wonder if John would find it an enjoyable sensory experience to touch under the influence of certain chems as well. The bonus is the rough sketch kept simple and cute. I think we all deserve some sunshine. :) Take care everyone, and I'll update again soon!

I did these little FO4 doodles on a scrap of paper back in Oct. But with everything Oct threw at me it really put the kibosh on having time for just having some fun. So I finally got around to fleshing it out a little further today. With Hancock as soon as I had that cheesy grin I knew the direction I wanted to take with him; and will likely do a full render since I'm quite happy with the rough barring a few tweaks/changes here and there. Ham and Nick were just sprinkles of additional fun. Also I seriously cannot get @haileythesato's wonderful fan animation, 'Out of Context Nick Valentine' with it's "synth toaster" line outta my head - it lives there rent free now, and I'm honestly 100% OK with that. :P

Hence my swap out to a very 'brave little toaster' Nick.

Okay listen. When I decided to give squid Jean (squean) bite marks/scars last year I was just making it make sense that he lived with a pod of orcas who thought it was super fun to scare him and threaten him, I didn’t know tsc would come out and make that detail somehow 100x worse

Just a random thought but: Kevin sending Jean postcards from Palmetto.

They do call sometimes, but Kevin sends Jean a post card from Palmetto with a message scrawled across and there’s something so familiar about it that Jean has a LA post card with a reply written out before he can think. He doesn’t send it for a while, just looking at it and debates recycling it, debates burning it, and then one day he slips it into the mail and there is no mention of it until another post card arrive from Kevin. A longer one, the message over double the length as before. Less hesitant.

And it’s something. No pressure to respond immediately, as many redos as possible, any number of cards torn up or written out in the middle of the night that he does and doesn’t send. And Kevin doesn’t press him, just sends post cards from Palmetto and anywhere they travel, about nothing and everything all at once. Little magnets sometimes following, small trinkets as well with a subtle undertone of ‘I thought of you’ that neither of them is willing to acknowledge. The one time Kevin asks about it, Jean tells him he throws them in the trash the moment he sees the name on the return address. Kevin doesn’t believe him.

dude can you imagine being a foot soldier marine after luffy was declared a yonko. your superiors sending you after this guy whose not even 20 yet and despite that has continued to terrorize the government the world over with the sound of rapidly approaching flip flops, you hear this guy went on a tirade throughout the grand line continually taking out oppressive kings and pirates, this dude punched the fucking pope!!! you have so many off hand accounts about how either a sweet funny little guy or a horrific meat eating monster and like no one understands this guy. and then your superiors say "our target is monkey d luffy and his devil fruit is the zoan type sun god nika the god of laughter and freedom" and you cant help but think. man. maybe i AM the bad guy
