Somebody stop me I keep making dndads AUs and plotting them all out and doing nothing with them 😭
#cal rambles#rn it’s a classic medieval fantasy type AU with like kingdoms and royalty and all that#basic idea is: 20 years ago the entire kingdom of Oakvale vanished#the incident was thought to be caused by an ancient god that the previous king has foolishly awakened in his experiments#now in the present darkness has slowly been spreading throughout the land#it hasn’t been too much of a concern until very recently#as it was just assumed to be a slight increase of monsters in the forests#but the slow and steady spread has suddenly excelled exponentially#cut to the kingdom of hell where there’s a bunch of kids who r determined to fix things etc#aka very basic fantasy plot LMAO#Hermie is the second prince#Taylor is also a prince being Nick’s son#Lincoln is Taylor’s guard and also bestie#Normal is just like a normal villager LOL but for some reason his dad and uncle know the first prince (Nick)#so he got an apprenticeship w/ the royal healer !#(Lark and Sparrow ran away after their dad tried to confront Barry abt something and then disappeared with all of oakvale)#(Sparrow settled down to have a normal life but Lark is looking for answers)#(Normal DOES NOT KNOW ANY OF THIS)#Scary is an apprentice/ametur witch who accidentally stumbled upon a prophecy highlighting the world’s demise#unless the teens stop it (how? instructions were unclear)#and she’s like FUCK. IG I GOTTA SNEAK INTO THE CASTLE OR WHATEVER TO FIND THESE LOSERS#so the four teens r like wrapped up in this mystery for a couple weeks while the outside of the kingdom starts getting more dangerous#and right before they leave on their epic quest Hermie literally walks in on them like wtf r u guys doing.#he ends up tagging along lol#Taylor wants to be a hero#Link is trying to keep Taylor safe#Normal wants to save the world (and maybe figure out who he is as well)#Scary wants to save herself (and her friends. maybe. don’t tell anyone)#Hermie wants to save his kingdom and maybe his dad will finally notice him

So if Jodie is king of hell, that makes hell a monarchy, right?
That means Taylor and Hermie are like second and third in the line of succession for the throne. Taylor "kicked out of church for talking about Evangelion" Swift is a prince of hell.

for the bingo!!! one mr. herman please!!!
Ahhhh Herman T. Unworth, prince of hell and heir of goofs, my freak of the week, my dearly beloved 💚💚💚
"funny little dude, silly fellow, some sort of jester, even" was MADE for this guy and you can't convince me otherwise!!! He's such a little guy who just keeps getting put in increasingly dire Situations but his desire to Commit To The Bit overrides everything else and quite frankly I'm obsessed with that for him! I have also never seen a Hermie design that doesn't slap that boy can fit so many genders in him. All at once. He is That Kind Of Actor he Comes With Looks he contains multitudes!!! He's such a mischievous conniving little asshole and he's petty as hell and yet that makes me love him even more <3 And. Tbqh if I had met ANY of the teens in high school we would not have been friends - mostly due to the nature of the sort of cliques everyone would hang with lmao sorry guys ;-; But regardless Herman is SUCH a blorbo to me I love to see him gravely injured and pretending he's not always 2 seconds away from a complete identity crisis 🥰🥰🥰
#sorry this took a little bit i was busy rotating The Character (him) around in my mind. at high speeds. get tilt-a-whirled <333#but yeah them's my thoughts!!! he's SO. shakes him violently#thanks for the ask lemon drop!!!#ask game#dndads#ngc-5194

Am I adding my own Swiftli propaganda??? Yeah, maybe so. They are so sweet,,, just. Look at them!!! Starting off with the FBI mini-arc in episodes 9 and 10 because holy FUCK these two are so ride-or-die it makes me insane!!!
Sleep well, my prince <3 (and then he immediately slaps him back awake lmfao)
Also. Buddy comedy duo of all time I love them so much. When your best bro compliments your toss,,,
This exchange. When you're stuck in an absolutely terrifying situation and you think your dad just burst in to save you and you're overwhelmed and have no idea what you're gonna do but your friend is go with whatever you decide,,,
But what really, REALLY solidified these guys for me is how absolutely devoted they are to each other. Link threw himself DIRECTLY into the line of fire to swap places with Taylor's dad - a man they just met and had no real reason to trust (and who, in fact, had just told Taylor "Don't trust anyone") - just because he knew how important talking to Nicky would be for Taylor. Like. What the absolute FUCK.
And then Taylor has a heart-to-heart with his dad and this happens when he asks about Link, who they left behind surrounded by gunmen:
And then what does Taylor do the SECOND after Nicky leaves???
In conclusion. They are so devoted to each other - whether you interpret them romantically, platonically, or a secret third thing, they just have SUCH an interesting relationship that I love to pick apart <333
Also have some miscellaneous Swiftli MomentsTM!!!
Peak silly behavior from Episode 28 (King of the Hell) after Link throws Taylor for Equally Silly Reasons:
And a cinematic parallel from Episode 29 (SOCCER Shadow of Scorengoal). Besties who attempt to slap each other awake ig???
And lastly the pet names and general husband shenanigans from Episode 35 (Apollo Four Teens). These two (and Normal and Scary and Hermie) are also canonically married. Btw.
Taylor talking about opening up emotionally and then wanting to rest it reminds Link of Chris 🥺🥺🥺 (his kinda-ex-alternate-timeline-spouse - long story iykyk)
And ofc. HAD to include Link calling Taylor honey <333
Okokok that's about all I got. Um. Swiftli beloveds 🥰🥰🥰
#MUTUALS. VOTE SWIFTLI. for meeeeeeee <3333#polydads are so real also but. swiftli my little guys... sillies of all time!!!#im thinking abt them ALWAYS. they're so. teen boys ever!!!#dndads#swiftli#polls#happi rambles#ok thats it. i think#OH! there's descriptions of the screenshots in the alt text id things 👍#long post

I still love Harry Potter - but not JKR
Warning: This gets wordy. I really just rambled and let my thoughts take me where they will. And these are only my personal rambles - they aren’t meant to be a deep political statement or super eloquent or anything. They’ll be messy and meandering and mainly for my own benefit. I just...needed to think. And remember. And feel. You have been warned.
JKR has been in the news a lot lately. And not in a good way. To put it bluntly, she’s basically revealed herself as a TERF and is rightly being called out. It hurts, because Harry Potter made a large impact on my life. But the author has shown herself to be flawed and I had put her on a pedestal for years of my life. I admired her “rags-to-riches” (sorta) story. Her success. Her talent with writing. I wanted to be her in some ways. She was living my life’s dream!
And now she is making hurtful remarks about a marginalized group of people who have done nothing except demand equality and recognition.
I first heard about the books through my mom. She was a substitute teacher at the time, and in the class she was covering, the teacher had just started reading The Sorceror’s Stone. Mom went out and got a copy, read it, and loaned it to me. She also griped about how no one knew how to pronounce the name “Hermione” - the kids she was reading to kept ‘correcting’ her with ‘Hermy-own-knee” as the pronunciation. It drove her nuts. I remember bragging to my friends when I figured out what the Mirror of Erised actually said. I was in junior high - eighth grade. I was reading a kids’ book that wasn’t hugely popular yet, and trying to lure people in. I remember seeing more and more people I knew picking up the books. In high school, when we had free days in band (aka the teacher was sick and the sub didn’t know music), my friends and I would talk Harry Potter. I was giddy when I got my own copies - hardback copies - of the first three books by saving my money and shopping the second-hand bookstores. It’s not that my parents wouldn’t have gotten them for me, but I wanted to buy them for myself. My original, paperback copy of Sorceror’s Stone was battered and tattered and well-loved. Mom kept loaning out our copies to people. Sometimes, they didn’t come back. In that, it was like when she would loan out copies of The Lord of The Rings when I was a kid (which is why there are probably 4 or 5 copies of that in my parents’ house today). She knew the books were special. I put up Harry Potter posters. I glommed onto Hermione as a favorite character - a bookish girl who could still stand up for herself and have great friends? It was everything I had wanted for myself when I was eleven and struggled hard to have. So I adored her. And I shipped Harry/Hermione. Still do, but now days, I prefer just having an OT3 of the Golden Trio and an OT3 of the Silver Trio (or Sub Trio or whatever name the fandom uses now). I sometimes had trouble sleeping and would pop the audiobook of Sorceror’s Stone into my cassette player on those nights. It helped me relax. When the first film came out, my parents and I were there to see it. I was amazed. I remember griping about minor tweaks, like Harry’s eyes (until I read about the contacts issues). Oh, what little I knew of how the books and films would splinter more. But still be fun. Goblet of Fire the book was released 4 days before my 15th birthday. I made the mistake of telling my parents I could hold off on reading my copy until then. After I saw my mom sobbing -for reasons she couldn’t tell me - at the end of the book...I never made that particular error again. When Order of the Phoenix came out, we went to the Barnes and Noble midnight release to get our pre-ordered copies. During the long wait, a guy wandered up and down selling Little Caesar's pizzas. Another guy had visited Wal-Mart, purchased every copy of the book they had, and was selling them for only a couple of bucks over what he’d paid to anyone in line who was desperate for an extra copy. My parents bought one and I spent the rest of the waiting period crouched under a parking lot light, reading, until my parents got the copies we’d actually come for. I lost sleep reading all of the books as they came out. I was always done within a few days, at most. I just couldn’t put them down. I got T-shirts. Bought dolls/pillows/bedding. Got myself a T-shirt, a poster, and Quidditch Through The Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them when I visited the UK in high school. I saw the latter films at midnight releases with my friends. Half-Blood Prince the book came out during my first summer as a camp counselor. Almost all of us - camper and staff alike - were reading it or talking about it. Spoilers were forbidden but there would still be hushed conversations during bedtime hours or “me-time” after lunch (rest period). Deathly Hallows - both book and film - came out after my mother passed. I got my copy of the book, quietly, at a Kroger at midnight.
Harry Potter got me heavily into fandom. I was there for The Draco Trilogy and Pawn to Queen. My Immortal and The Shoebox Project. Squickfics that made it onto GodAwfulFanfiction and its successor, Why God Why. LiveJournal communities. Fandom wank. And so much more. Reading updates on MuggleNet and The Leaky Cauldron and watching fanvids. Listening to music uploaded from Draco and the Malfoy and other fanbands. Roleplaying communities that were being hosted on Proboards message boards. Countless Sorting quizzes. I made sure to visit Universal Studios on my honeymoon with @lechevaliermalfet and want to go back one day, as only Hogsmeade existed when we went. I also remember how grumpy I was that @lechevaliermalfet had resisted my urging to read the books - he read them after they were recommended by an unlikely source. In hindsight, it makes sense. I was a solid fan. The person who recommended the books was not. I celebrated the release of Cursed Child with my family at a day-long celebration in Naperville, IL. I have a T-shirt to commemorate it, and a wand that I made with the help of my niece. Just this year, @lechevaliermalfet and I did a date night - dinner and the first Potter movie on the big screen.
I’m rambling, I know, but the point is, Harry Potter got me involved. I made online friends and honed writing skills by writing fanfiction. I learned to have a thicker skin because of some of the feedback I got. I made at least one fanvid (I’m reasonably certain it’s been lost to the ether and good riddance). Sure, I participated in other fandoms (especially Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew and Witch Hunter Robin). But this was a fandom I shared with more of my family and friends than any other. And I could even - and did - read it to kids I babysat. Now, I know Harry Potter isn’t perfect. Lord knows, Cursed Child reads like a bad fanfiction, and I have seen those ideas executed in ways that fired up my imagination and emotions more effectively. Repeatedly. Then there’s the issue of worldbuilding. The not-so-great aspects/implications of much of what has come out of Pottermore aside, Harry Potter’s wizarding world has always been a shaky society. Others have touched on this far more eloquently, so I’ll just say that it was interesting that we only had a few token “good” Slytherins - who were still shown to have ambition that overruled their better judgement at times.
I always saw the films as a different interpretation of the same story, so I wouldn’t go nuts over the stuff that was altered, so that stays. They have flaws of their own. Sometimes they exacerbate what is in the books - sometimes not.
I can’t speak to the more recent Fantastic Beasts stuff as I haven’t gotten involved. Maybe eventually. But I never realized that the poor representation in JKR’s world might reflect her worldview more wholly. I honestly figured it was a more innocent ignorance or reluctance to risk upsetting the market at the time. But the more she tweets and posts...the more obvious it is that no, she just really is that biased. I guess, at this point, I’m going to have to follow the Death of the Author route. I used to live for the engagement Rowling had with fans, and the tidbits she’d dole out. Now, I cringe every time I see one. For the books themselves, I think I’m going to have to take the Death of the Author approach from now on. Because JKR cannot take away the positive things Harry Potter gave me and other fans. I won’t let her. And I am grateful that there are Potter cast members stepping up to denounce her. I love Harry Potter. JKR can go jump in a lake.

ok, my last daedric princes zodiac post was literally a homestuck joke that i think flew over everybody’s heads, but i’ve done a bit of actual diggin’, and have figured the proper list according to each prince’s summoning dates, which might not mean anything, but here goes.
aries: azura (first seed 21st) / peryite (rain’s hand 9th) taurus: namira (second seed 9th) gemini: hircine (mid year 5th) cancer: vaermina (sun’s height 10th) leo: nobody .... so maybe jyggalag? virgo: nocturnal (hearth fire 8th) libra: malacath (frost fall 8th) / mephala (frost fall 13th) scorpio: boethiah (sun’s dusk 2nd) / mehrunes dagon (sun’s dusk 20th) sagittarius: molag bal (evening star 20th) capricorn: clavicus vile (morning star 1st) / meridia (morning star 13th) aquarius: sheogorath (sun’s dawn 2nd) / sanguine (sun’s dawn 16th) pisces: hermaeus mora (first seed 5th)
so i literally only got pisces right. oh well! t’was a joke post anyway. no clue why i even bothered including jyggalag in that one, since uh, he wasn’t really SUMMONABLE until 200 years ago. anyway, these make more sense zodiacally (that’s a word, i promise, didn’t just make it up), as far as my limited astrological knowledge goes. i’m content i got ol’ hermy, at least. fist-to-tentacle bump for my patron prince.
i’m so sorry for you poor orphaned leos. i’m sure malacath’ll take you, that’s kinda his thing.
and i’m SO SO SO sorry for sagittariuses. (sagittarius’s? sagittarii?) it’s not my fault, blame the daggerfall writers. i’m sure uh.....malacath’ll take you.....unless you’re really into moldy balls, i guess.......then good for you.......

A week or so ago I finished “Liquid surveillance”. The conversation between Bauman and Lyon is at pace, unfolding the complicated truths of today’s surveillance. First, it’s said: it’s post-panoptical. We’re not in the age of Jeremny Bentham’s prison design anymore, the guards are away and we watch ourselves. Bauman emphasizes the fact that we do this out of a deep need of being together, and that the fear of being watched has transformed into exhilaration, a promise of never being abandoned: „the condition of being watched and seen has thereby been reclassified from a menace into a temptation”. Quoting Josh Rose, „the internet doesn’t steal our humanity, it reflects it”, shines light on the fact that, maybe, Facebook had such a huge success because we have been in waiting for it. In Georg Simmel’s writings, secrecy is important in shaping social interaction, because „how we relate to others depends deeply on what we know about them”. Whether Foucault would call today’s blogs and tweets confessional is at question, as Bauman says that this society has brought the private to the public in unprecedented ways. The paradox is that, while the hard end of the panoptic will generate resistance, the soft end „seems to seduce participans into a stunning conformity”. Bigo introduces the concept of „ban-opticon”, to indicate the way exclusion and profiling technologies work, through „managers of unease” (such as police) and „globalised (in)security” (through security technologies that make us feel threatened). The features of the ban-opticon are: exceptional power in liberal societies, profiling, and normalizing non-excluded groups (to a belief in free movement of goods, persons, etc.). The DIY surveillance system expects people to „erect the walls themselves”. Because we live in a „consumer society”, we ourselves become commodities, and social media aids us to be both „promoters of commodities” and „the commodities we promote”. In Sherry Turkle’s words, „we expect more from technology and less from each other”. For Bauman, the debate is between security and freedom, one must be sacrificed to another to find the viable solution. Morality comes to mind, as automation and remoteness allows us to be liberated from moral constraints, with the principle „we can do it, so we will do it”. The adiaphorization of military killing is the removal „from the category of acts subject to moral evaluation”, as Gunther Anders warns there is negligibility in the effort needed to set off a cataclysm, including „globocide”. The need to cope with fear of „the other” makes citizens stockpile on alarms and insurances while endorsing extreme measures such as torture and domestic spying. „Security’s imagined future is one in which all abnormalities ... have been excluded.”
I’ve been reading “I’m with the bears”, one or two stories each day. They’re quite depressing and scary. There’s a good introduction by Bill McKibben and then we’re on to a story about early eco-activists, very realistic, just one night unfolding, with a pointing question at the end, by T. C. Boyle. The second, Zoogoing, by Lydia Millet, is an account of a man who becomes obsessed with watching animals by himself, at their own pace, in their cages at night. “Sacred space” must be read to get it, but shortly, Kim Stanley Robinson describes a group of friends trekking up the mountains, experiencing a changing landscape. Hermie, by Nathaniel Rich, is a sad-funny story about a man talking, as an adult, to his imaginary childhood friend, a crab. Diary of an Interesting Year by Helen Simpson describes a world in which governments have fallen and the fittest survive, it’s quite violent, sad and engaging, but having read the MaddAddam trilogy by Atwood, it’s nothing new. Newromancer by Toby Litt happens in a world of control and no fun, telling the story of a few “rebels” trying to find some. The last four stories are, interestingly, my favorites. I also had some expectations of them, but they’ve been met. “The Siphoners” by David Mitchell is about an old couple living at the end of a land, in a world falling apart, with oil princes unimaginably high. It jumps from a life of before the fall, when they were anthropologists, to the now, when they’re old, vulnerable, and useless to society. This back and forth happens in “arzestula” by Wu Ming 1 too, a story that is quite poetic about a flooded world, also without internet and communications, in which a woman goes back to her home so she can go towards the future. “The tamarisk hunter” is particularly despairing, but I didn’t expect any less from Paolo Bacigalupi, from whom I read a few years ago a short story that stayed with me vividly (one about a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by mechanical humans who unexpectedly find an organic dog - interestingly, I didn’t much enjoy his novel, The wind-up girl). Anyway, it’s a world with water scarcity, insomuch that the river itself is taken by the rich and the rest cannot use it anymore. The last story, ending the book, is a short account of human history, from the past to a future of us-no-more, by Margaret Atwood.
Elena Ferrante’s “Those who live and those who stay” is so close to my heart it's a bit beyond a novel now, almost like having an old friend Elena who tells me her stories, so vividly they hurt & annoy me and I can see them happen. So whatever criticism there is to write about it, I cannot do it, I've been completely drawn in the universe.
"voglio che tu faccia meglio, e la cosa che desidero di piu, perche chi sono io se tu non sei brava, chi sono?" (says Lila to Lenu)

👀 (any dndads au you feel like sharing, lovebird! hope you're having a wonderful day btw 💜💜💜)
Hehehehe HIII HAPPI <3 I am having a wonderful day tysm!! :D I hope you are too <3
I'm trying to think abt if I have any aus that you don't already know about BWCEUAHAHAAH and im not sure how much you know abt the most recent one I've made
OOOH I have got this one fantasy AU I haven't touched in a while but I think would be really fun to revisit sometime! <3
The idea is that there's this ancient curse that's been unleashed on the land creating this magic rot that's slowly been devouring forests, towns, and eventually maybe even whole kingdoms! The rot can overtake animals and people, warping them into dangerous mirrors of their past self, this AU's take on doodlerization. the sauce if you will <3
Taylor is a member of the royal court of the Kingdom of Hell (son of the first prince Nick) and Link is his loyal guard and bestie who keeps him from dying in their shenanigans and escapades. They have a silly goofy, I've known you my whole life and I will die to protect you bc you're the person dearest to me also ur a dumbass who's stupid as fuck, energy going on <3 friends to dumbasses to lovers <3
Normal is a regular villager who recently happened to score an apprenticeship with the castle healer! Apparently his dad knew someone in the court and managed to pull some strings, wonder what that's all about. (spoiler alert: its pretty important and he's also secretly royalty but doesn't know it)
Scary is an amateur witch <3 She saw her mom start dating the castle wizard and was like FUCK THAT GUY AND HIS STUFFY BOOKS. BET I COULD DO THAT BUT BETTER AND COOLER AND LESS NERDY. So she's been sneaking off to practice magic with rudimentary materials and a few nicked things Terry left around their cottage.
Turns out Scary has a natural talent for certain parts of magic because she accidentally stumbles upon a prophecy outlining the world's possible end unless a certain group of people go to the ruins of a lost kingdom to stop the rot. And when she finds out who those people are she's like FUUUUUCK. bc now she's gotta find a way to sneak into the castle to somehow find these losers, one of which is apparently a PRINCE !! and then they've all gotta go out and not die on an adventure or else EVERYONE'S gonna die. and like she can't be bothered but also ig it would be kind of cool to shove it in her stepdad's face that she's more awesome than him and saved the world so. off she goes!
Hermie's the second prince who is often overshadowed by his older half brother. He happens to overhear the group talk about the prophecy around the time they're preparing to leave and tags along to prove his worth to his dads and also have people pay attention for him for once goddamn !!!!! also the healer boy is kinda cute <3
Cue super fun goofy and exciting magical fantasy quest !!! Secrets are revealed! Bonds are formed! Possible corruption? MAYHAPS! Also where even ARE the ruins of the kingdom of Oakvale no one seems to have heard of it at all! All while the rot continues to spread....
#ask#happi-tree#cal rambles#dndads#hehehehe thank you so much for indulging me <3333#i know i took a little bit to respond sorry abt that <- i tried thinking abt aus to talk abt then i fell asleep and had to do hw#you know all my big ones already n lately ive mostly been scheming w/ nyx abt aus so im hesitant to call them my own without mentioning them#so my brain blanked i was like Uh. UH. HEVEGAJAHAHAJA#there are some little fun ideas i plan on elaborating on later i think!! havent told anyone abt em yet so hehe they're some fun bonuses#angel n demon au !! link's an angel taylor's a demon#i was thinking scary could be a fallen angel its just been normal i've been stuck on LMAO#bc i've been thinking abt how fun it is with how link and taylor have p clear angel demon imagery to me#while scary and normal feel more... in between? like yin yang type not all good not all bad#thought it could be fun to play with the idea of. Scary very recently fell as an angel due to Willy's influence#versus Normal who comes from a family of fallen angels ('corrupted' by the Doodler) but is trying to redeem himself and his family as well#with a storyline playing with the concept or morality and clearly defining good and bad with angels and demons#good omens style LMAO <3 Link and Taylor as an angel and demon DO remind me of Crowley and Aziraphale#Demon who's got a little too good of a heart to be evil and an Angel who's a little too much of a bastard to be purely good#ALSO been playing around with the idea of a fae au teheheehe#anyways rhat angel demon one really got away from me LMAO#its been a passing thought these past few days but i havent thought up like an actual plot line just alignments#so i havent mentioned it#WILL GET TO THE OTHER AU ASKS BTW EJWBAHAHAH#im jusy a VERY wordy rambler so it may take some time </3#long post#HELP almost forgot that one#me n my walls of text <3
