Mal's eyes cut over to Belle, who looked torn between supporting them or keeping her head down to avoid a scene. With just a little nudge, the queen would probably tip in their favor. And Mal knew exactly how to do that. "You have a sister on the Isle, your majesty."
Belle froze, eyes snapping to meet Mal's. "A what?"
"A sister," Mal repeated. "Well, two sisters. Your mother Rosalind has a daughter, Hermione. We all call her Hermie. She's thirteen now. And then they adopted another little girl who's named Reza, she's ten."
"Hermie's one of my best friends," Hadie added, quiet but clear in the shocked silence of the room. "She helps me with my homework because English isn't my first language, and she's a great storyteller. I've been to her house a few times. Her mom is very nice. Quiet, kind of nervous, but she's nice. She always makes sure we eat while we study and always answers questions we have. The Ringmaster- that's Hermie's dad- is a good dad. He's funny, too. And he loves Hermie, Reza, and Mrs Rosalind a lot. You can just tell from how he interacts with them.
"Mrs Rosalind misses you, too." Hadie glanced over to Riah, looking for reassurance. When Riah nodded to him, Hadie kept talking. "She talks about you sometimes, and she says she misses you. She writes to you, but she never hears back. We think the barge workers dump all the letters we send into the ocean. Mrs Ursula and Miss Uliana have seen them do it."
And there it was. Belle stared at him, crushed as she realized that her mother had been trying to connect with her but hadn't been allowed. She was on their side now. Mal could tell.

Do you think the BDA members would keep a journal and/or a diary?
Ace McCard of Wonderland:
By choice? No.
By force via school assignment that he never bothers to touch after the fact? Yes.
Avalon Mim-Knightley of the Isle:
Yes.
But it's mostly full of everything she knows about the Mims and her imagining what her relationship with each and every member would be pre-meeting them.
She burns it after Maddy accidentally reads it.
Bill Cook of Wonderland:
Yes, but it's a handmade cook book with notes that tell just a little too bit about his life.
Chester Chatty of Wonderland:
Yes.
But absolutely nobody other than Ace and Red can read it because he writes in it upside down (messily) and in code, and half of the words are doodled over or smudged.
Chloe Charming of Cinderellasburg:
Yes.
She started keeping one after Chad did because she was itty bitty and wanted to be like her big brother (who mellowed out as an adult but at the time she didn't know what he was like to others in highschool). Anyway, she ended up enjoying it and now looks back at other old journals to see what she was like.
Though unlike the others she's very aware that others could potentially read it because Audrey told her about how others read and wrote in hers.
So she doesn't write anything too incriminating in there.
But she does very much write musings on Red, like you suggested in your own post and (before Red noticed her), she wrote about how jealous she was of Ace because she wanted Red to look at her like that.
(And after Red noticed her and Ace came back no longer having any romantic interest in Red, she painted over those pages so that absolutely no one could find out what she used to think of Ace).
Danny Stuart-Darling of Darling Coast:
Yes.
It has little doodles of Neverland, fairies, pirates, etc in it too (he also hides it in his wall).
Dee Tweedle of Wonderland:
Yes.
Though no one can really read it besides Twee because most of the words are smudged and there are splashes of ink/paint everywhere because she usually writes very fast due to her energy.
She writes in it no matter the emotion she's feeling even with her sharing her emotions with others.
Dora Dormington of Wonderland:
Yes but she usually ends up destroying the pages she writes in so that Twee (when she's working for the Queen of Hearts because not much other choice) and the Queen of Hearts can't ever read what she writes.
Mainly because she knows it'll probably be considered treason.
Eddie Balthazar:
A personal one?
No because he has absolutely no energy for that between going to school, taking care of his parents and the cats, his detective work, and all the various jobs he does to survive.
A shared one he and the BDA have as a 'bonding exercise' yes but he doesn't write in it often.
Edith Athanasiou of the Isle:
No, she thinks it's stupid.
Elle Athanasiou of Tirulia:
Yes, because it helps her keep a good hold on her temper/emotions.
She started keeping one as soon as she learned how to write because her therapist that her parents got for her after she was adopted suggested it.
Everlee D'Aquire of the Isle:
Yes, but absolutely no one wants to read it because of how scary some of the things she writes are.
(Her friends all learned the hard way not to read other people's journal, from her)?
Glauco White of Charmington:
No.
He doesn't really like touching paper more than he has to after the Evil Queen turned him into a tree.
Hadie Athanasiou of the Underworld:
He used to but he stopped because he kept accidentally burning it to ash when he got too upset/angry (like Lava Girl in 'The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl').
Harry Badun:
Both personal and shared, yes, because in his words 'detectives need dairies for improvement' and 'team bonding'.
Hermie Bing:
Yes.
She uses colorful ink and doodles all kinds of clowns, animals, and tricks in it and in the group's shared journal.
Jace Badun:
Yes but only when he's pissed off or writing in the group's shared journal.
Katy Pillar of Wonderland:
Yes and it's rather boring.
It also smells like smoke.
Khalil Hunterson of the Isle:
Nope.
He's not really interested in them.
Lada Haggins of the Isle:
Tried to do one but got bored half way through.
Lazarus Stromboli of the Isle:
Yes, but it's more of a dream journal than a regular journal/diary.
Maddox Hatter of Wonderland:
Yes.
It smells like tea and is mainly filled with ideas for inventions and rambles about Red's recklessness and his fears for her safety.
Miriam Monroe of the Isle:
Yes.
It's filled with rants about her mom, ideas about how her brother might be like as a person, and theories on who her dad might be, and absolutely nothing else.
Panos Imp-Coachmen of the Isle:
Yes but if you read it, it will give you anxiety because it's filled with his anxious ramblings.
Paro Imp-Athanasiou of the Isle:
Yes.
Panos accidentally read it once and had nightmares for months because it's mainly filled with Paro's fascination over the pain he can't feel and doodles of graphic horror movie scenes.
Red Hearts of Wonderland:
Yes.
It's filled with rants about everything she hates regarding Wonderland and her parents and her feelings for Ace (back when she had them) that turned into feelings for Chloe.
You can pin point the exact moment she realized she was into girls (Chloe specifically) in the diary.
Reza Vizer of Agrabah:
Twee Tweedle of Wonderland:
Yes.
He writes both a personal journal that is filled with all the random ideas he has, things he wants to learn about, and past traumatic experiences and takes part in the team bonding exercise that is having a team journal.
Shan Deja of the Isle:
Yes but it's only filled with descriptions of fights she and the other have been in.
Yes.
It helps her keep her emotions in check, which when she was working for the Queen of Hearts she definitely needed (especially with Red frustrating her like she did, even though it wasn't really either of their faults).
Zuri Crocuta of the Isle:
Yzla Sorcerer of Enchania:
Yes.
She writes in both the team journal and a personal one.
In her personal journals she complains about Zevon's antics, how they drive her mother crazy, how much she hates her grandmother and her aunt, how much she misses Lil Yaz, how worried she is for Zim and Zam, and how complicated her feelings regarding her father (Cedric)'s work are.
Not really.
She didn't really learn how to write until she got to Auradon because her mom couldn't teach her how to do it with her hands, and none of her team mates or mentors thought to teach her since she didn't go to school.

Agrabah Villains in the 1920 mafia AU
We are pretending that there are other cities and countries besides Auradon City, and not all fairy tale locations are included in Auradon city. This includes Agrabah and fairy-tale equivalent of China, at the very least.
Also, Encanto, because I just realized that this fits really neatly with the Dark Madrigal family trope. Dark, as in, it would be ridiculously easy to run a mafia with their combined gifts. Anyway.
Agrabah Villains.
Of course, the main one is Jafar, the big bad. He is allied with his sister Nasira and they specialise in over-border smuggling of exotic artifacts, occasionally drugs or weapons, and also tomb raiding. (Look me in the eyes and tell me Jafar and Nasira do not have the vibes to be tomb raiders.)
As a result, they are rather wealthy and have a name for themselves in the criminal underworld.
They are also feuding with pretty much all the others Agrabah villains. As in, full on gang war.
So they [both sides of the conflict] sent their children to Auradon City to „stay safe, forge foreign connections, and lay the groundwork for eventually expanding our network.“
Jay and Jade took it to mean „Joyride in Auradon City.“
Reza took it as green light to annoy the fuck out of Jay and Jade.
Now, I want you to understand that Jay and Jade are first and foremost a) menaces to society and b) arrogant rich kids.
(And it's hilarious.)
They have been in Auradon City for about a year and half (because I said so), and they have not done single productive thing in that time.
They spend their time just lounging in the bars, climbing where they shouldn't, racing through the streets, either by foot (or by jumping from roof to roof, if they re feeling like it), or in stolen cars. (There are cars now.)
As I said, they are menaces.
They also rob jewelry stores – not armed roberry ir threatening, no, they want to talk and charm and swindle their way through it – purely to one-up one another in getting the shinier piece.
Jay occasionally drops one of the stolen pieces by Uma, or maybe Evie or some of the Tremaines, if he is feeling like it, but Jade keeps most of her loot.
Jay giving some valuables to Uma and her gang of assembled street kids is about as far as their positive influence on Auradon city goes.
The ugly pieces, though? They break into the houses of Auradon elite and hide them here, waiting for the break out. Given the incompetence of Auradon police, this particular pastime wasn't particularly entertaining just yet.
The relationship between Reza and each of the cousins (separately) could be best described as „Enemies with benefits“. Also, none of the cousins knows that Reza is hooking up with the other one, too, because I am mostly here for Agrabah villains drama.
So, yeah, feel free to add any other Agrabah Descendants.
Anyway, Reza. He added himself to the so-called Badun detective agency. The primary objective of the Baduns is annoying the de Vils into giving up Cruella, but they are not opposed to investigating other crimes either, and so Reza is slowly nudging them to look into Jafar-Nasira-Jay-Jade family network. (I need to find a better name). Yes, while hooking up with the cousins. Morals are not needed in this AU, didn't you know?
It's fine, though. Reza is having fun.
Another one of Agrabah Descendants is Jordan. And her being an AK in canon makes her not part of criminal network in this AU. So she is an investigative reporter.
Her morals are still rather flexible, though.
She travels the world for the sake of travelling and getting to see the most interesting stories. And she wound up in Auradon city. Which may or might not have something to do with her ongoing investigation into the lost artefacts of Agrabah.
She also ends up sticking her nose into the chain of tragic and completely accidental deaths of Harriet Hook's husbands.
Luckily for her, she is suspectible to bribes, especially when the alternative is „They will never find your body,“ as Harriet Hook kindly put it.
As I said, flexible morals. Good for her.

The history of the Overgrowth has always been a messy one.
As they were growing their influence, there would be deals made to other factions or possessions that would be temporarily sold. And in the beginning, they didn't even have a good way to test their products.
This all, of course, fell onto Maddy before stretching to the younger cousins until the Overgrowth finally acquired workers who fulfilled these purposes.

I got some writing done, hope you enjoy
Midnight
Light flooded his eyes, shooting pain through his head. Turning to his side, he saw the same person from earlier, dark hair falling in front of his eyes as he checked over a bag. Reaching up to try and get his attention, Ben suddenly found out he couldn’t.
“What? Whas going on?” Ben got out, finding the words a struggle.
The others' eyes snapped to him, his lips thinning.
Footsteps sounded down the hallway.
“I’m sorry. Please know that” The softest words Ben had ever heard left the others mouth. So quiet, he wasn’t even sure he heard them.
The door creaked open drawing his attention towards the scratched and stained door.
The woman in maeve stepped in, the air dropping a few degrees as she waltzed towards the shelves along the wall. Her hand flicked towards the two, prompting the boy to start talking.
“Everything is prepped and ready for you. I’ve established a baseline and made sure he’s properly strapped down.”
Everything about her screamed danger and everything about the boy screamed fear.
“Good”
He quickly left the room, head down the entire time.
She browsed the shelves, vials of different colored substances being picked up and set down.
Everything seemed to blur, he blinked and her face was suddenly before him, scanning his face for something that Ben wasn’t sure of.
Another blink
A syringe and a vial.
Blink
A needle in his arm
Blink
Agony raced up his arm before flooding through the rest of his body, fire hurtling through his veins at the speed of light. Breath was stolen out of his lungs. He strained against the restraints, desperate to hide from the pain.
What felt like hours later, the pain had subsided.
All the woman did was walk over and check the restraints, before inserting a new needle into his skin.
“Please no, please not again, please”
She smiled as she removed the needle, the substance already injected into the vein.
Cold ice started racing this time, freezing him to his core.
She walked away laughing, enjoying his immense pain.
There wasn’t an end in sight.

I'm super into the Descendants Universe rn (again, lol) so here are some face claims that I did.
I never read the books, so this is based on vibes only!
Harriet Hook as Hailee Steinfeld. I decided that she has dark hair like Harry and brown eyes like CJ from Descendants Wicked World
CJ Hook as Reneé Rapp. She is blonde like in Wicked World, and let's pretend she has brown eyes, idk how to make edits lol
Jade as Amrit Kaur and Reza as Chaneil Kular. I just love them
Mad Maddy as Teagan Croft. Her hair is purple, the pictures are just not that good, lol
Clay Clayton as Ethan Cutkosky. Bc he is too hot
Tiger Peony as Devery Jacobs. Devery is Canadian Indigenous, and Neverland doesn't really exist, so who cares
Darek as Thomas Elms. Aka, Doug's hotter older brother
I have some more, so I'll make a part 2.

Thoughts On Icarus (A Poem by Reza Ghahremanzadeh)
Falling
from
the
firmament.
But you still had options––
You could have beseeched.
Implored.
Supplicated.
Gods
are
of
course mercurial
and unreliable.
But it was certainly worth a shot.
Zeus might have let you air-surf on a thunderbolt.
(Another sexy plaything. Ganymede 2.0?)
Iris might have let you descend a rainbow like a slide.
A fun & safe entry into the water.
Hermes might have lent you his Talaria.
Even one of them would have mitigated the damage.
Heck, a harpy could have saved you.
Eternal claw marks on your back. But at least you would have survived.
I suppose it's hard to think on your feet.
Especially when said feet are tumbling towards
a watery grave.
But then again,
there's always the possibility that you did not want to be saved.
Perhaps you wanted to face death bravely & unflinchingly.
A feat that the gods can never achieve.
Immortal cowards.

How would you write the book boys? As in Hadie, Jr(Lonnie's brother), Aziz and Herkie? Personality wise?
Aziz is a lot like his dad- on the surface, he's a mischievous, happy, fast-minded kid with a stubborn streak two miles wide. A bit below that, he wants to make sure that he does everything in his power to keep Agrabah from going back to the way it was before his maman ruled. He doesn't want kids to go hungry, not after seeing that his dad still sneaks and stores food decades later. He cares a lot for his friends, more than Auradon masculinity standards would like, and he's kind of the mom friend of the group while also being the one who suggests extremely stupid things like putting soap on a trampoline "just to see what would happen." TL;DR, he's a lot like his father, cares a lot, and is usually the Bad Idea person in his group.
Hadie is just a kid. He's very curious, always ready to learn more, but he's also very cautious. He has ADHD and is usually always stemming in some way, usually vocal stims like humming or repeating words. He's also sweet once you get to know him, a bit brash and hard-headed like his father, and he got a temper from both of his parents. His friends Celia and CJ make the most of this. They like to use his flaming hair to either cook stuff or set stuff on fire. Maleficent says he's no longer allowed within fifty meters of Judge Frollo.
Jr (Li Susu) is a lot like his mother. He struggled with the role he was supposed to have, being a warrior, and found himself more drawn to the arts. The only reason he took to swords was because they were a type of art, making them and using them in dances came naturally to him. He really likes music, especially writing music, and he's usually humming a new tune while practicing ROAR or making swords. He also loves dance and parkour. He's kind of awkward like his mother, but he's patient and quiet, very well-mannered and not quick to let his emotions show. He also messes up with English a bit, just because he was raised speaking and writing Mandarin, but most people like his so much that if you insult him for this, half of the school is after you.
Herkie (his full name is Hryhoriy, pronounced with the same feel as Gregory, but he's given up on trying to get people to call him by it) regularly rips the shit out of Zeus. He will readily call Zeus out on literally anything and he does not fear his grandfather because Hera supports him and if there's one thing Zeus fears, it's Hera's divine wrath. He was one of the biggest advocates for talismans for the Isle gods, and he was one of the biggest voices in trying to get the children off of the Isle (especially the godly children like Hadie and Justice.) He was the one who found loopholes to keep Auradon from annexing the Demigod Stronghold, adding sports teams and classes so that it would be counted as a school rather than as the mixture of camps and cultures that it actually is. He's got a lot on his plate because his parents have a lot on theirs, so he's very quiet. But he's very sympathetic to the (reasonable) plights of others. Even if your problem is as mediocre as "I hate this class," he will listen. He's one of the ones who's been quietly building a network for when Isle Kids eventually came to Auradon as the Fates said they would. He even got Tyche to bless them.
Artie (Arturius, why can't people pronounce that?) is very patient. He might be fifteen but he's wise beyond his years, he needs to be. His father was forced to send him to Auradon and he faces a world that's so backward compares to what he comes from. Ystin was supposed to watch out for him, but he's the one who watches out for Ystin because for the love of god, people, Ystin is a guy, Merlin did magic to make his body match, stop calling him a girl. Auradon is so queerphobic and so anti-magic, both of which his home isn't. If he wasn't so wise and calm, he would get expelled because of how backwards he would call Auradon. He lets out his anger in English class. He writes papers on why Ystin is a guy or why magic is not inherently evil. 44 injured 13 dead every time, that's the level of ass-whooping his English papers unleash. He makes a very good point.
Anthony drinks Respect Women juice. He's also very estranged from Drizella, because she's so racist and he's half Indian. He keeps up a facade on the Isle, pretending to be snooty and holier-than-thou, because if people found out he still cared he would probably get beat up, but he's very caring. He's the mom of Harriet's crew and usually the only one of the polycule with at least one braincell (they share two, he has permanent custody of one of them.) He really wants a better life for the children of the Isle. He also really wants to meet his father, introduce his father to his girls, his man, and his kids, because he knows his dad doesn't even know that he's a grandpa. He writes a lot of letters to his father and aunt and has them all locked in a box, along with pictures commissioned from Mal, to give to them once he has the chance. He also really wants his mother's freedom because she's so, so sad, and she doesn't deserve to be. She saw the light, she was good, and who the hell sentences a pregnant woman to the Isle? He hates Auradon.
Diego, as previously shown, was the only parent for three family members so he had to grow up fast. He also cares a lot, a lot a lot, but he doesn't hide that he does. Other than that, he's a usual punk nineteen-year-old boy.
Clay Clayton, Gaston II and III, and the Stabbington cousins are all sexist and bigoted.
Rick Ratcliffe is working on unlearning a lot of bias from how he was raised. He tries so hard, he's very kind, and he might not realize some of the stuff he says is bad (he did accidentally call a few black people n*groes before Facilier corrected him) but he will always stop the second someone says "hey, that's actually bad." He really wants to learn and improve and he'll give Jay some stuff from his father's mansion because Jay was the one who finally knocked sense into him.
Reza, because I didn't realize she was actually written as a boy, is now a trans girl! Good for her!
LeFou Deux (Davin LeFou) has Down Syndrome, which is why Gaston abandoned him, but don't underestimate him because of it. Yes, he is naturally very sweet and friendly and he struggles a bit with learning, but he's still a person and he's not a baby, so don't treat him like he is. In fact he'll usually be meaner and more sharp-tongued than he is around friends, just to prove that he isn't an invalid.
Jace is estranged from his mother because he called her out on being racist. He and Harry are both a bit dim in terms of street smarts, but Harry has incredible emotional smarts and Jace is nearly as book-smart as Carlos. Both of them also struggle with social cues because the only friend they had for most of their lives, apart from each other, is Carlos, and he's autistic.
If you want I can make another post on the dwarf kids, this one is long enough.

Pull Of The Soul;
Summary: The BEST™ thing that could happen to Yzla has happened. She's gotten a SOUL MARK! Trigger Warnings: Swearing, explosions, and minor injuries. Translations: ¡MAMÁ! ¡MAMÁ, DUELE! ¡MAMÁ AYUDA! = MAMA! MAMA, IT HURTS! MAMA HELP! Shhh... Todo estará bien, Yz, sé que duele pero todo estará bien. Tu mamá llegará pronto a casa pero tienes que quedarte quieta para que pueda curarte. = Shhh...It'll be okay, Yz, I know it hurts but it'll be okay. Your mom will be home soon but you have to stay still so that I can fix you up. Hope you enjoy @igetthedisneybox .
—————————————————————————
Yzla stared at her mostly hands curiously. Trying not to shake in excitement as she examined them.
Her older cousins’ words stuck in her head.
“Ah fuck, they’re still red—”
“Looks like Yzzy’s got a soul mate!”
“Ah fuck, they’re still red—”
“Looks like Yzzy’s got a soul mate!”
“Ah fuck, they’re still red—”
“Looks like Yzzy’s got a soul mate!”
“Ah fuck, they’re still red—”
“Looks like Yzzy’s got a soul mate!”
The ponytailed girl couldn’t help but grin.
She had a soul mark. She had a soul mate. And she KNEW who they were! Because only ONE person who wasn’t related to her had touched her hands after she injured them months ago.
“Ah fuck, they’re still red—”
“Looks like Yzzy’s got a soul mate!”
“Ah fuck, they’re still red—”
“Looks like Yzzy’s got a soul mate!”
“Ah fuck, they’re still red—”
“Looks like Yzzy’s got a soul mate!”
“Ah fuck, they’re still red—”
“Looks like Yzzy’s got a soul mate!”
—————————————————————————
Her hands hurt.
They REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hurt.
“¡MAMÁ! ¡MAMÁ, DUELE! ¡MAMÁ AYUDA!” Yzla sobbed heavily, practically heaving as Reza tended to her hands more gently than she ever knew him to be capable of.
“Shhh... Todo estará bien, Yz, sé que duele pero todo estará bien. Tu mamá llegará pronto a casa pero tienes que quedarte quieta para que pueda curarte,” the younger boy whispered, looking sympathetic as a pale Hermie handed him the first aid kit.
Jace and Eddie were cleaning up the glass from the bottle that had exploded in her hands and Harry was off somewhere—presumably trying to find her mother or someone else in her family.
And her hands still really hurt, but…somehow it was more bearable with Reza by her side.
—————————————————————————
Reza was her soul mate!
She, Yzla Sorcerer of Enchania, was lucky enough to find her soul mark—her other half—on the isle of the lost of all places. And before any of her cousins and brothers had to! And when she was only fifteen, as well!
It was a miracle!
No, even better! It was a dream come true!
She just couldn’t wait to tell everyone!
But first, she had to go tell Reza. This day couldn’t get ANY better!

The Badun detective agency in the 1920 mafia AU
For @hannahhook7744 I hope you enjoy!
There is a child at Jace's doorstep.
A fucking child, looking up at him with wide innocent eyes, like a fucking cherub. His hair a wild mess flung around by the chilly wind, and their ends were dyed blue.
(Who on earth lets a child dye its hair?)
Jace slowly blinks and looks down again: the boy is still here. Well.
„What do you want, kid?“ he asks, hoping that the child might want, well, directions back to his parents? That would be nice?
„My mom has three disembodied corpses in her basement,“ the boy states blankly, a picture of perfect innocence. His eyes are suddenly mildly unnerving, and it takes Jace's brain a moment to catch up on him.
„…What the fuck?“ he mutters more for himself than for the child, who takes it as an encouragement to repeat its words anyway.
So Jace draws a sharp breath and yells down the hall at his cousin: „Harry! Come here this instant! And bring your gun!“
You know, just in case-
Harry Badun runs to the door in truly record speed, the weapon safely pointed down. He looks disappointed when he sees only a child.
„Tell him what you told me,“ Jace sights towards the visitor.
„My mom has three disembodied corpses in her basement. They talk to me when I sleep.“
Ok.
That is a new info.
This is cool. Totally cool.
Harry tightens his grip on the weapon and looks around the street, then up the roofs, which, you know, always a good idea.
They are clear, though. It doesn't look as if anyone is gonna jump them, much less some psychotic woman. Those don't tend to be too quiet, and the Badun cousins would know.
Oh, and by the way. That silhouette against that balustrade over there? That is totally Reza. Snogging Jade. Harry owes Jace for this one.
Anyway. Right, the corpses.
„Come on, kid,“ he says, „Go inside and then tell us what you know, yeah?“
The kid's eyes shine as he steps inside and exclaims: „Do I get to be a detective too? I have always wanted to be a detective! I would be an awesome detective, since I know how do bodies look how long after death already!“
This is not a worrying statement at all. Not at all.
A shadow peels off the wall. Hermie. She was listening the whole time, of course she was.
„Dead bodies?“
„What exactly do you mean?!“
The kid answers and Jace bites back the irrational need to scream his lungs out. A vein at his temple pulses as the kid starts describing a rotting corpse with freakish accuracy to way too interested Hermie.
„Quiet! I need to concentrate!“ shouts Yzla from upstairs, „This is a delicate process!“
„Stop painting your pretty pictures for a moment,“ shouts Harry back, „This is a bloody murder case!“
„I'm trying to recreate Renoir here, you ignorant simpleton-“
„A what?“
Yzla screams incoherently and Jace interrupts the argument before it can truly begin:
„We also have a kid that might be in danger and knows absolutely too much.“
„…I'm coming. But if the paint dries and I won't be able to get back to it, it will be all your fault.“
Jace doesn't even acknowledge that as worthy of an answer.
„Jace?“ Hermie nudges him slightly, while the kid infodumps at slightly traumatized-looking Harry about the different types of gunshot wounds, „Should I get Reza too?“
„…Nah,“ decides Jace, „He is snogging Jade right now, and we wouldn't want to interrupt.“
Hermie nods curtly and turns over to Harry: „You owe me and Yzla a bottle of cognac,“ she says, and Jace whistles. His cousin is losing in the big, today.
The kid tugs at his sleeve: „So what about my mom's basement, Mr Detective?“ the kid asks and he really should ask who his mom is. Also, what is his name?
So he asks, and when the child answers, looking at him with impossibly wide eyes, he almost gets an aneurysm.
„I'm detective Hadie, sir,“ the child reports proudly. Harry and Hermie just shrug – they don't know what is happening either. Nor does Yzla, who just appeared at the top of the stairs, wearing nothing but a negligee, and didn't she say she was working?
Oh, well.
Jace clears his throat.
„Right, kid. Hadie. And who is your mother?“
„But you are detectives!“ the child protests, „You gotta know that, no?“
„…Sure. We know that. Absolutely. And the bodies? Wait, no,“ Jace catches himself. This will certainly be a conversation, so:
„Let's go to the saloon first, shall we?“
Even if the saloon is just a fancy name for a room with a dining table and the kitchen counter, as he and Harry can hardly afford anything else.
They do have enough chairs, though, even if they are rarely used and mostly ignored: Hermie sits on the table, swinging her legs idly in the air, and Yzla plops herself down Harry's lap, setting his weapon aside. Fucking menace, that girl.
Jace himself takes the chair next to them and the boy stays standing.
(If Reza wouldn't be too busy with his current hookup, he would just lean against the wall and try to look very cool and intimidating, and smoke his cigarettes. Jace could do with a cigarette himself. Or better yet, a drink. The cigarette smoke reminds himself and Harry a bit too much of Cruella.)
„Now, tell us what you know,“ Jace asks the kid and damn. That kid. Does not shut up. Ever.
By the first thirty minutes, Yzla gets up and opens a bottle of wine to pass around, not even bothering with the glasses.
By an hour, Hermie is playing with her favourite dagger a bit too much and Harry has reclaimed back his handgun.
By hour and half, Jace is very ready to bleach his brain, thank you very much.
Hadie slows for a moment and Jace immediately stops him: „I think that's quite enough for today, Hadie,“ he says, „Thank you. Would you just step behind that door real quick?“
The kid pouts at him.
„Ehm… Me and my detectives need to discuss the evidence you just presented to us. And decide the, ehm, next course of action.“
Hadie finally steps behind the door when all present adults – including Eddie, who showed up half-way through – point at them.
And there is not much of a discussion, not really.
„Tell me we are taking that kid to Uma,“ blurts out Yzla before he can even speak.
„We could keep him,“ propose Hermie and Harry at the same time, and, yeah, no. As if Harry didn’t know they are barely staying afloat as it is, never mind, you know, not remotely responsible enough to raise a child?
…Yeah, it says a lot when a child would be safer on the streets, under the protection of one of the wildest Auradon City gangs, than anywhere else.
„We are taking him to Uma,“ decides Jace, and Yzla sights in relief. Eddie motions for her to pass the wine.
„You can come back, kid!“ Jace raises his voice, „We have decided!“
„Yay!“ the tiny disaster runs back to the room, „Do I get to be a detective too? Will we solve the case of my mother’s basement? Track down the victims’ family?“
Actually…
Jace knows how to get the kid to cooperate and go to safety voluntarily now: He winks at his associates, as to signal the general „don’t question me, I’ve got this.“
„Sure we are, kid. But, you see, right now we are working on another serious case, and we need you to help us. Will you be our eyes on the streets, detective Hadie?“
„Yes! I will, Mr detective sir! When do I start?“
„As soon as we can get you to the location. Now, let’s not lose any more time: We will debrief you on the way.“
That will hopefully give Jace enough time to come up with decent backstory, so, yeah.
With a yawn, Yzla gets up and sets off to her atelier, also known as the attic, not bothering to say goodbye, and Harry sets off to find his metal boxer and emergency knife.
„Reza is gonna be so mad he missed this-“ Hermie giggles, „It’s gonna be so much fun!“
And then, the Badun detective agency escorts its newest member, or, more accurately, adoptee, to Uma.
They don’t have any idea how much trouble they are causing Uma in the long run.

This is probably the most fruitless quest for logic but I was rereading Isle of the Lost book and during Ben's meeting with the council of sidekicks, one of Pongo and Perdita's complaints is that they have to send 101 dalmatians to college and I just thought of today. . why do the dogs need to go to college?
They're basically domesticated pets in their movies. Maybe obedience school but not doggy college.
It's not like the mice in the Rescuerers who presumably have mice degrees so they could be in the mice UN. Dogs don't have career goals. Well maybe in Zootopia but that was mainly wild mammels, no dogs or cats. So the dogs are still just pets. . . just why do they need to go to college?
And between Cinderella's mice having a sewing business, the Rescuerers, and mouse Sherlock Holmes I just realize mice have a lot of professions in Disney.
I don't know why I'm struck with trying to rationalize this. After all it's descendants, there's nothing rational or logical in this franchise but I just found it very funny.
Also is it just me but is Carlos’ classroom rival Reza pretty much Zevon with his interest in chemistry, and what he thinks is sophiscated, overintellectual language with made up words?

Overgrowth
Face: Madailéin ‘Mad Maddy’ Mim
Second: Maeve Mim
Assorted Members: Leighton Rourke, Yzla, Zevon, Reza of Agrabah, Malvina Mim
The Overgrowth runs the forested area not already claimed by the Crimson Army. They don’t get many territory disputes due to their control over illicit substances and their willingness to cut off anyone who crosses them.
The Overgrowth, while not having that much power, is seen as a necessity. They are the only ones with the knowledge of how to cook drugs and make alcohol. If anyone seems to be gaining said knowledge, they either quickly forget, disappear, or join the Overgrowth itself.
