Feeling Like I Always Do The Wrong Things!;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Reza doesn't mean to use a ‘tone’ most of the time.  Trigger Warnings: Implied ableism, swearing, self worth issues, and not understanding unstated rules.
------------------------------------------------------------
“Don’t take that tone with me.”
Reza doesn't mean to use a ‘tone’ most of the time.
Hell, half the time he doesn’t even realize he’s using a ‘tone’— though of course no one ever cares for his excuses whenever he tries to tell them that. So he had long since learned to stop trying to explain himself to people.
Had long since learned to just stop talking whenever someone pulled out that line and to keep his head down until they were no longer irritated or angry with him and to never, under any circumstances, be within swinging distance.
(Reza had unfortunately learned that last point the hard way long before he’d learned how to tie his shoes).
Had long since learned to cease to exist whenever he’d fucked up and gotten a ‘tone’ with someone on accident—even if he still didn’t understand what people where talking about most of the time when they pulled out the line he was starting to hate more than any other.
“Don’t take that tone with me.”
Tone, what was a tone?
Why did he always have one?
Why did people always hate it?
Why did everyone always hate him?
What was wrong with him that wasn’t wrong with everybody else?
“Don’t take that tone with me, Reza!”
“Don’t take that tone with me, young man!”
“REZA! DON’T YOU DARE USE THAT TONE WITH ME!”
“Tone—Sound: The quality of a sound, such as its pitch, strength, or source. For example, you might describe a sound as shrill.”
“Tone—Voice: The quality of a person's voice, especially when it expresses a feeling/ meaning. For example, you might describe someone's tone as apologetic or moody.”
“Tone—Writing: The attitude of the writer/narrator towards the subject or reader—for example, you might describe an essay as having a sad or happy  tone.”
“Tone—Mood: The general feeling of something, like a meeting.”
Those were the definitions that Reza could find that were related to speaking and yet, the astronomer and detective in all his thirteen years had not, for the life of him, been able to figure out which ones people were referring to when they used that line on him.
Did they not like the sound of his voice? Did he need to change the pitch and strength of it— could he even do that?
Was it the way he wrote things? No, that couldn’t be it all the time; most of the time people only told him not to take that tone with them when he was speaking, though Yen Sid had used it at least once or twice when he’d had to write an apology letter or essay or lines for detention.
Was it the quality or mood of his voice? Did he speak with too much or too little emotion?
What normal everyday words could Reza avoid using to prevent people from accusing him of having taken a tone with them?
“Don’t take that tone with me.”
“Don’t talk to me like that.”
Why did he always say the wrong thing?
Why was he always using a tone?
Why was he irritating to be around and how could he stop being like that?
“Don’t take that tone with me.”
Yet another thing Reza had to add to his ever going ‘self-improvement’ list so that he could get more people to start liking him.
# 97. “Don’t take that tone with me.”
Would he ever stop having to add things to his self-improvement list? Would he ever stop having to earn other people’s love and respect? Was loving him really that much of a chore?
“Don’t take that tone with me.”
“Why can’t you speak like a normal person?”
“Why are you like this?”
“Don’t talk crazy to me!”
“Behave yourself!”
Would he ever be good enough for anyone?
Would he ever not be a disappointment?

Which characters in Descendants would be religious, aside from the obvious (that is, Claudine, possibly Rick, and the Agrabah set)?

The history of the Overgrowth has always been a messy one.
As they were growing their influence, there would be deals made to other factions or possessions that would be temporarily sold. And in the beginning, they didn't even have a good way to test their products.
This all, of course, fell onto Maddy before stretching to the younger cousins until the Overgrowth finally acquired workers who fulfilled these purposes.

I got some writing done, hope you enjoy
Midnight
Light flooded his eyes, shooting pain through his head. Turning to his side, he saw the same person from earlier, dark hair falling in front of his eyes as he checked over a bag. Reaching up to try and get his attention, Ben suddenly found out he couldn’t.
“What? Whas going on?” Ben got out, finding the words a struggle.
The others' eyes snapped to him, his lips thinning.
Footsteps sounded down the hallway.
“I’m sorry. Please know that” The softest words Ben had ever heard left the others mouth. So quiet, he wasn’t even sure he heard them.
The door creaked open drawing his attention towards the scratched and stained door.
The woman in maeve stepped in, the air dropping a few degrees as she waltzed towards the shelves along the wall. Her hand flicked towards the two, prompting the boy to start talking.
“Everything is prepped and ready for you. I’ve established a baseline and made sure he’s properly strapped down.”
Everything about her screamed danger and everything about the boy screamed fear.
“Good”
He quickly left the room, head down the entire time.
She browsed the shelves, vials of different colored substances being picked up and set down.
Everything seemed to blur, he blinked and her face was suddenly before him, scanning his face for something that Ben wasn’t sure of.
Another blink
A syringe and a vial.
Blink
A needle in his arm
Blink
Agony raced up his arm before flooding through the rest of his body, fire hurtling through his veins at the speed of light. Breath was stolen out of his lungs. He strained against the restraints, desperate to hide from the pain.
What felt like hours later, the pain had subsided.
All the woman did was walk over and check the restraints, before inserting a new needle into his skin.
“Please no, please not again, please”
She smiled as she removed the needle, the substance already injected into the vein.
Cold ice started racing this time, freezing him to his core.
She walked away laughing, enjoying his immense pain.
There wasn’t an end in sight.

Thoughts On Icarus (A Poem by Reza Ghahremanzadeh)
Falling
from
the
firmament.
But you still had options––
You could have beseeched.
Implored.
Supplicated.
Gods
are
of
course mercurial
and unreliable.
But it was certainly worth a shot.
Zeus might have let you air-surf on a thunderbolt.
(Another sexy plaything. Ganymede 2.0?)
Iris might have let you descend a rainbow like a slide.
A fun & safe entry into the water.
Hermes might have lent you his Talaria.
Even one of them would have mitigated the damage.
Heck, a harpy could have saved you.
Eternal claw marks on your back. But at least you would have survived.
I suppose it's hard to think on your feet.
Especially when said feet are tumbling towards
a watery grave.
But then again,
there's always the possibility that you did not want to be saved.
Perhaps you wanted to face death bravely & unflinchingly.
A feat that the gods can never achieve.
Immortal cowards.

This is probably the most fruitless quest for logic but I was rereading Isle of the Lost book and during Ben's meeting with the council of sidekicks, one of Pongo and Perdita's complaints is that they have to send 101 dalmatians to college and I just thought of today. . why do the dogs need to go to college?
They're basically domesticated pets in their movies. Maybe obedience school but not doggy college.
It's not like the mice in the Rescuerers who presumably have mice degrees so they could be in the mice UN. Dogs don't have career goals. Well maybe in Zootopia but that was mainly wild mammels, no dogs or cats. So the dogs are still just pets. . . just why do they need to go to college?
And between Cinderella's mice having a sewing business, the Rescuerers, and mouse Sherlock Holmes I just realize mice have a lot of professions in Disney.
I don't know why I'm struck with trying to rationalize this. After all it's descendants, there's nothing rational or logical in this franchise but I just found it very funny.
Also is it just me but is Carlos’ classroom rival Reza pretty much Zevon with his interest in chemistry, and what he thinks is sophiscated, overintellectual language with made up words?

[Freema Agyeman. Photographer: Joseph Sinclair]
By Steven McIntosh
Entertainment reporter
Doctor Who star Freema Agyeman will appear in a new stage production of the Tony and Olivier-winning dark comedy God of Carnage.
The actress is best known for her role as the companion Martha Jones in Doctor Who and recently starred opposite Lily Allen in TV comedy Dreamland.
She will play Veronique Vallon in the revival of Yasmina Reza's play at the Lyric Hammersmith theatre in September.
Agyeman told BBC News she was "beyond thrilled" to be returning to the stage.
God of Carnage tells the story of two sets of parents, who meet up after one 11-year-old knocks out his classmate's two front teeth in a playground fight.
The boys' parents meet up to have a civil conversation about their children's altercation in a supposedly calm and rational way. But chaos ensues as the parents themselves descend into tantrums, name-calling and tears.
Agyeman said: "I'm happy to be staying in the genre of dark comedy post Dreamland - God of Carnage made me gasp and guffaw in equal measure.
"I look forward to performing in this play alongside the fantastic cast and am very excited to be working with director Nicholai La Barrie whose enthusiasm is infectious!"
Reza's play was translated for English-speaking audiences by Christopher Hampton, who won an Oscar in 2021 for best adapted screenplay for The Father.
God of Carnage premiered in the West End in 2008 before transferring to Broadway the following year.
The play went on to win both the Tony and Olivier Award for best comedy, as well as additional Tonys for best play and best actress for Marcia Gay Harden.
Agyeman's screen credits include Torchwood, Silent Witness, Law and Order and The Carrie Diaries, as well as the most recent film in the Matrix franchise, Resurrections.
She will appear alongside Ariyon Bakare, Dinita Gohil and Martin Hutson in the Hammersmith production of God of Carnage, which runs from 1 to 30 September.
Agyeman said the Lyric had an "incredible history and tradition" and praised its "consistently solid, inclusive and high-calibre work".
Director Nicholai La Barrie said: "God of Carnage pokes fun at wealth, power and money. It lifts the lid on civility which is immensely funny to watch. From the moment I read this play, I imagined it to be a reflection of the cosmopolitan cities that we live in."
In a review of a 2018 revival of the play in Bath, the Guardian's Arifa Akbar recalled how the show's 2009 run in the West End "put in just enough laughs, balanced with middle-class menace and marital rage, for the play to earn its reputation as a savage comedy that tears away the veneer of respectability in modern bourgeois lives to expose the bigotry, anger and predations that lie beneath".
Prior to God of Carnage, writer Reza made her name with the the 1994 play Art, which also won a string of Olivier and Tony Awards.

Note
Do you think the BDA members would keep a journal and/or a diary?
Ace McCard of Wonderland:
By choice? No.
By force via school assignment that he never bothers to touch after the fact? Yes.
Avalon Mim-Knightley of the Isle:
Yes.
But it's mostly full of everything she knows about the Mims and her imagining what her relationship with each and every member would be pre-meeting them.
She burns it after Maddy accidentally reads it.
Bill Cook of Wonderland:
Yes, but it's a handmade cook book with notes that tell just a little too bit about his life.
Chester Chatty of Wonderland:
Yes.
But absolutely nobody other than Ace and Red can read it because he writes in it upside down (messily) and in code, and half of the words are doodled over or smudged.
Chloe Charming of Cinderellasburg:
Yes.
She started keeping one after Chad did because she was itty bitty and wanted to be like her big brother (who mellowed out as an adult but at the time she didn't know what he was like to others in highschool). Anyway, she ended up enjoying it and now looks back at other old journals to see what she was like.
Though unlike the others she's very aware that others could potentially read it because Audrey told her about how others read and wrote in hers.
So she doesn't write anything too incriminating in there.
But she does very much write musings on Red, like you suggested in your own post and (before Red noticed her), she wrote about how jealous she was of Ace because she wanted Red to look at her like that.
(And after Red noticed her and Ace came back no longer having any romantic interest in Red, she painted over those pages so that absolutely no one could find out what she used to think of Ace).
Danny Stuart-Darling of Darling Coast:
Yes.
It has little doodles of Neverland, fairies, pirates, etc in it too (he also hides it in his wall).
Dee Tweedle of Wonderland:
Yes.
Though no one can really read it besides Twee because most of the words are smudged and there are splashes of ink/paint everywhere because she usually writes very fast due to her energy.
She writes in it no matter the emotion she's feeling even with her sharing her emotions with others.
Dora Dormington of Wonderland:
Yes but she usually ends up destroying the pages she writes in so that Twee (when she's working for the Queen of Hearts because not much other choice) and the Queen of Hearts can't ever read what she writes.
Mainly because she knows it'll probably be considered treason.
Eddie Balthazar:
A personal one?
No because he has absolutely no energy for that between going to school, taking care of his parents and the cats, his detective work, and all the various jobs he does to survive.
A shared one he and the BDA have as a 'bonding exercise' yes but he doesn't write in it often.
Edith Athanasiou of the Isle:
No, she thinks it's stupid.
Elle Athanasiou of Tirulia:
Yes, because it helps her keep a good hold on her temper/emotions.
She started keeping one as soon as she learned how to write because her therapist that her parents got for her after she was adopted suggested it.
Everlee D'Aquire of the Isle:
Yes, but absolutely no one wants to read it because of how scary some of the things she writes are.
(Her friends all learned the hard way not to read other people's journal, from her)?
Glauco White of Charmington:
No.
He doesn't really like touching paper more than he has to after the Evil Queen turned him into a tree.
Hadie Athanasiou of the Underworld:
He used to but he stopped because he kept accidentally burning it to ash when he got too upset/angry (like Lava Girl in 'The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl').
Harry Badun:
Both personal and shared, yes, because in his words 'detectives need dairies for improvement' and 'team bonding'.
Hermie Bing:
Yes.
She uses colorful ink and doodles all kinds of clowns, animals, and tricks in it and in the group's shared journal.
Jace Badun:
Yes but only when he's pissed off or writing in the group's shared journal.
Katy Pillar of Wonderland:
Yes and it's rather boring.
It also smells like smoke.
Khalil Hunterson of the Isle:
Nope.
He's not really interested in them.
Lada Haggins of the Isle:
Tried to do one but got bored half way through.
Lazarus Stromboli of the Isle:
Yes, but it's more of a dream journal than a regular journal/diary.
Maddox Hatter of Wonderland:
Yes.
It smells like tea and is mainly filled with ideas for inventions and rambles about Red's recklessness and his fears for her safety.
Miriam Monroe of the Isle:
Yes.
It's filled with rants about her mom, ideas about how her brother might be like as a person, and theories on who her dad might be, and absolutely nothing else.
Panos Imp-Coachmen of the Isle:
Yes but if you read it, it will give you anxiety because it's filled with his anxious ramblings.
Paro Imp-Athanasiou of the Isle:
Yes.
Panos accidentally read it once and had nightmares for months because it's mainly filled with Paro's fascination over the pain he can't feel and doodles of graphic horror movie scenes.
Red Hearts of Wonderland:
Yes.
It's filled with rants about everything she hates regarding Wonderland and her parents and her feelings for Ace (back when she had them) that turned into feelings for Chloe.
You can pin point the exact moment she realized she was into girls (Chloe specifically) in the diary.
Reza Vizer of Agrabah:
Twee Tweedle of Wonderland:
Yes.
He writes both a personal journal that is filled with all the random ideas he has, things he wants to learn about, and past traumatic experiences and takes part in the team bonding exercise that is having a team journal.
Shan Deja of the Isle:
Yes but it's only filled with descriptions of fights she and the other have been in.
Yes.
It helps her keep her emotions in check, which when she was working for the Queen of Hearts she definitely needed (especially with Red frustrating her like she did, even though it wasn't really either of their faults).
Zuri Crocuta of the Isle:
Yzla Sorcerer of Enchania:
Yes.
She writes in both the team journal and a personal one.
In her personal journals she complains about Zevon's antics, how they drive her mother crazy, how much she hates her grandmother and her aunt, how much she misses Lil Yaz, how worried she is for Zim and Zam, and how complicated her feelings regarding her father (Cedric)'s work are.
Not really.
She didn't really learn how to write until she got to Auradon because her mom couldn't teach her how to do it with her hands, and none of her team mates or mentors thought to teach her since she didn't go to school.

Word Finding Game Tag!
@avrablake tagged me! The words are: rain, carve, look, bury, burn, and buy. I'm going to draw from Stitches and Memories today! Writing below the cut!
Rain
The last statue belonged to the Eagle God. It sat at the very center of the crowd, depicting a man with piercing eyes and a hooked nose and feathers where his hair should have been. His limbs and chest were heavy with muscle under the armor he wore, and he raised a long, one-edged sword towards the sky. The statue was painted in shades of blue and gray and black except for the skin, which was the same hue as good bronze.
Reza said, "Vilsel? What do we have worthy of a god?"
Vilsel came to stand at her foot, his eyes captured by the statue's stern face. "Little, Your Highness. Some coin and food."
Reza sighed. "I was afraid you would say that. Here." She pulled the jeweled rings from her fingers and let them rain into Vilsel's open hands. "Give these to the Eagle God, with the greatest respect."
Vilsel went forward and arranged the jewelry in a rosette on the god's altar. It shone there beautifully but otherwise did not stand out. The altar was already stuffed full of riches. No one dared make a poor offering to the king of the gods, and so, over the years, worshipers had showered his feet with gold and diamonds and even a few bejeweled crowns. Antea stared at the crowns and wondered if past heirs to the throne had left them here in their quest to win the god's favor.
Carve
They left behind the emptiness of the cave entrance as they descended into the cavern, following a walkway through the middle of a vast room. Its ceiling caught only a hint of Jedan's light. Vibrant turquoise water flowed by silently to either side of the path, vanishing somewhere beneath where they walked. The cave was not like illustrations Antea had seen in books at the library, illustrations that were always full of stalactites and columns and ribbons of rock. This one didn't have decorative growths at all. It looked as though something had carved the cave out of the granite with a giant spoon and an unsteady hand. The walls were full of dips and gouges, and only the path where they walked was relatively flat.
Look
She turned the first page and caught her breath. Sprawled across the pages was a dragon, its long neck twisted in a graceful "s", its wingless back hidden under a forest of spikes. Its tail trailed off the page. The artist had taken the time to include every diamond-shaped scale.
Antea read aloud, very quietly, "A seed of dishonesty lies in every human heart. An example: Dragons eat the dishonest. Dragons don't exist. One of those statements is a lie." The claws of the dragon stretched towards her, its eyes so black they seemed to eat away at the page. "I, the writer, am human and I thought that lie."
Something stirred, looking at that picture, reading those words, and it seized her mind and shook it until the writing on the page swam and melted. The memory grabbed at her -- a jade statue of a rearing dragon on a marble pedestal just face-high -- and knives jammed themselves into her ears. She felt like she was falling.
Bury
Antea's nostrils flared, and heat flooded her core. "What’s strange is, there aren't supposed to be bandits on this road. The soldiers patrol it. It's the main road. The damn main road!"
"Getting upset is not going to make that dead man go away."
She blew air out and tried to still her shaking hands. "Do we have to bury him? Report him?"
"I shouldn't think so. The soldiers will find him soon, and since they didn't do their job of keeping him off the roads, I don't feel bad about making them dig the hole."
Burn
Zoren leaned on the desk, scattering papers and tape everywhere, and fixed her with sharp eyes. "What did that book tell you to do?"
"Excuse me?"
He shook his head and folded his arms tight around him. "I should have thrown it on the fire."
Antea's jaw dropped, and she planted both her hands on his desk. "You don't burn books. You never burn books."
"I should have made an exception. Then you would not be leaving on some fool journey it told you to make."
Her chest felt tight, and she shook her head wildly, still leaning on his desk. "Look, the book hasn't told me anything! I haven't even read it yet! I'm leaving because I need to find my father. This is my only chance. Please understand."
Buy
The farmer closed his hand over the oboles, casting her an offended look as though he had heard her thoughts. "You can have the barn for tonight, but I warn you now that you'll be sharing."
Jedan's brow furrowed. "Sharing?"
"Girl came in before you did and asked to sleep in the barn. Paid me a third of what you did, but there's only one of her, and I've used up all my charity for the night." He stepped farther from the door and pointed them towards the barn. It was twice the size of the house, with a similar thatched roof and splintered walls no one had bothered to whitewash in years. "Go over there and get out of my face." And the farmer stepped back inside, coins clutched tight in his white-knuckled hand, and slammed the door in their faces.
Antea glared at the door and resisted the urge to go and pound on it again. She muttered to Jedan, "Shouldn't that much money buy a meal, too?"
He shook his head. "Be kind. The taxes a farmer pays are terrible."
"I guess. You didn't get poked in the boob."
Jedan coughed. "No, I did not."
Tagging @elizababie, @squarebracket-trick, and @macabremoons. Your words are dig, ride, jump, cut and drown!

Overgrowth
Face: Madailéin ‘Mad Maddy’ Mim
Second: Maeve Mim
Assorted Members: Leighton Rourke, Yzla, Zevon, Reza of Agrabah, Malvina Mim
The Overgrowth runs the forested area not already claimed by the Crimson Army. They don’t get many territory disputes due to their control over illicit substances and their willingness to cut off anyone who crosses them.
The Overgrowth, while not having that much power, is seen as a necessity. They are the only ones with the knowledge of how to cook drugs and make alcohol. If anyone seems to be gaining said knowledge, they either quickly forget, disappear, or join the Overgrowth itself.

A little pain never hurt anyone, well that's not true. But it's fun to say. Here's a little story
Any way to distract (and sedate)
Leighton rushed back to the apothecary as fast as she could, dodging around people, trying not to trip over the cobbled streets. She had lost track of time and was on the verge of being late. Her breath quickened as she saw the building come into sight, there wasn’t anyone waiting outside for her, so maybe she was in the clear. Entering the building as quickly and quietly as possible, she moved next to Reza in line.
“Where the hell have you been?” He hissed, head down and arms behind his back like the rest of them.
“I lost track of time”
“You better not have been around the arcade.”
“I’m not suicidal, Reza”
Footsteps.
They all fell completely silent. Standing still, perfectly in position like dolls. Heads down, arms behind their backs.
Fingernails against a wall.
Leighton was almost trembling, heart racing, pounding loudly in her ears.
Then everything stopped.
“Looks like you all made it here when you were supposed to. Now let’s get to business.”
Leighton slowly breathed out, relief flooding through her body. She hadn’t been caught.
“Wait”
Her blood froze.
“Leighton dearie, do you want to explain yourself?” Maeve purred, now standing directly in front of her.
“I’m sorry ma’am, I got caught up on my way here”
“Ahhh, I see.” Her fingers caressed Leighton’s cheek. “But rules are rules.” Pain flooded her head as Maeve gripped her hair and pulled.
“Lucky us Maeve, we were just in need of a new test dummy”
“I know right Maddie! They treat us so well.”
“Please, I’m sorry” She breathed, limbs shaking.
Pain flared through her cheek.
“I didn’t say you could speak. Now you’ve really done it.”
Leighton cried as she was dragged forwards by her hair, Maddie taking the opportunity to pat her cheek.
“You can be a good test dummy now, won’t you?” She said mockingly, before shoving her forward towards her doom, cackling as Leighton begged for forgiveness.
Her cries and screams growing fainter, before disappearing into the basement
“Now, where were we again?” Maddie said with a grin.
It would be a week or two before people saw Leighton again.
When they did, she was a little paler, a little skinnier, a little more weak. Eyes sunken in and track marks along her arms. Barely coherent.
No, the Overgrowth never killed their members.
Who else would test their new concoctions?
