Den modernaste filmen vi såg Maj månad var "Curse of the Ring" som jag blev rejält sugen att se om efter att ha läst Völksungasagan.
Curse of the Ring / Ring of the Nibelungs (2004) [👍🔁] Klart bättre än mycket som släpps inom fantasyn idag.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) [👍🔁]
Happiness Cage, the / the Mind Snatchers (1972) [👎📺🆓] Konstig film med en del intressanta idéer, men knappast värd att sitta av.
Hercules Against the Moon Men / Maciste e la regina di Samar (1964) [👍📺🆓]
Hjältarna vid Troja / La guerra di Troia (1961) [📺🆓]
Hjälten från Marathon / La battaglia di Maratona (1959) [📺🆓]
Josh Kirby… Time Warrior: Chapter 5, Journey to the Magic Cavern (1996) [👍🔁📺🆓]
Josh Kirby… Time Warrior: Chapter 6, Last Battle for the Universe (1996) [👍🔁📺🆓]
Sword of Venus (1953) [📺🆓]
Tyrannernas Borg / Saracen Blade, the (1954) [👍📺🆓] Riktigt bra swashbuckler. Rekomenderas.
Men Curse of the Ring / Ring of the Nibelungs, Tyrannernas Borg / Saracen Blade och Voyage of the Rock Aliens är väl värda att kika in om man inte vill sitta av hela listan.

ulysses tells dante and virgil of his final voyage in inferno, canto xxvi, 85-142, trans. allen mandelbaum
The greater horn within that ancient flame began to sway and tremble, murmuring just like a fire that struggles in the wind; and then he waved his flame-tip back and forth as if it were a tongue that tried to speak, and flung toward us a voice that answered: "When I sailed away from Circe, who'd beguiled me to stay more than a year there, near Gaeta–– before Aeneas gave that place a name–– neither my fondness for my son nor pity for my old father nor the love I owed Penelope, which would have gladdened her, was able to defeat in me the longing I had to gain experience of the world and of the vices and the worth of men. Therefore, I set out on the open sea with but one ship and that small company of those who never had deserted me. I saw as far as Spain, far as Morocco, along both shores; I saw Sardinia and saw the other islands that sea bathes. And I and my companions were already old and slow, when we approached the narrows where Hercules set up his boundary stones that men might heed and never reach beyond: upon my right, I had gone past Seville, and on the left, already passed Ceüta. 'Brothers,' I said, 'o you, who having crossed a hundred thousand dangers, reach the west, to this brief waking-time that still is left unto your senses, you must not deny experience of that which lies beyond the sun, and of the world that is unpeopled. Consider well the seed that gave you birth: you were not made to live your lives as brutes, but to be followers of worth and knowledge.' I spurred my comrades with this brief address to meet the journey with such eagerness that I could hardly, then, have held them back; and having turned our stern toward morning, we made wings out of our oars in wild flight and always gained upon our left-hand side. At night I now could see the other pole and all its stars; the star of ours had fallen and never rose above the plain of the ocean. Five times the light beneath the moon had been rekindled, and, as many times, was spent, since that hard passage faced our first attempt, when there before us rose a mountain, dark because of distance, and it seemed to me the highest mountain I had ever seen. And we were glad, but this soon turned to sorrow, for out of that new land a whirlwind rose and hammered at our ship, against her bow. Three times it turned her round with all the waters; and at the fourth, it lifted up the stern so that our prow plunged deep, as pleased an Other, until the sea again closed––over us."

My rating: 4/10
Watched it without the MST3K this time, and yet the hurting remains as deep, if not deeper. Sandstorm...

New Year’s Resolutions
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys/Xena: Warrior Princess
Wordcount: 1000 Rating: G, silly Warning: None, except that it's written in a very 90's fanfic kind of way
Timeline: Takes place shortly after the Christmas specials, A Star To Guide Them in H:TLJ and A Solstice Carol in X:WP, though that's not particularly important. Also on AO3
~
It was the night of New Year's Eve, and the light of the full moon fell upon a hill where four friends had gathered. Gabrielle took her eyes from the stars she'd been watching and turned to face the two men. "So, what have you guys been up to this past year?"
Iolaus shrugged. "You know, the usual."
"Like what?"
Hercules exchanged a knowing smile with his friend and decided to go first. "Well, I got to be a spirit for a day."
"And I got to be purple," the lighter man put in.
"I played a prince."
"And I a king."
"I almost got killed as I was swallowed by a sea-serpent, for the second time."
"And I did get killed, for the third time."
The younger woman exchanged a look with Xena. "A-ha, that 'usual'."
"How 'bout you, what have you been up to?" Iolaus asked, eyes dancing with mirth.
"Well, I don't wanna brag," the dark warrior said with a smug smile, "but we died, too."
"Really?! Your first?" Iolaus' voice revealed his somewhat unnatural excitement for the topic.
"Yeah. Hey, did you also feel that, hm..." the bard stopped to search for the right word, "-tingle? You know, just before that, uhm, ‘whooshing’ sensation?"
"Yes! I know exactly what you mean! I've been wondering-”
"A-hum, excuse me." Hercules tried to get the attention of the two enraptured blondes. "Can't we find a more pleasant subject to talk about?" he asked uncomfortably.
"Ha, you're just jealous 'cause you never died," Iolaus informed him with a wink.
Hercules rolled his eyes and ignored his friend. "Did you perhaps do anything else? Besides dying?"
Gabrielle tapped a finger against her lip. "We did became bacchaes for a while," she said after some thinking.
"And I'm only just recovered from a body-exchange with Callisto," Xena offered.
"Sounds like you've been kind of busy, you too," Iolaus stated with a grin.
There was a short silence while the foursome in good humor contemplated the nature of their unusual lives.
"Do you think it's a new year yet?" the bard asked after a while.
Iolaus looked up at the moon. "Hard to tell, but I guess now's as good a time as any."
They all exchanged warm smiles and in unison wished each other a happy new year.
"So, any New Year's resolutions?" Gabrielle wanted to know.
"Well, Herc and I decided to make up each other’s resolutions this year." Iolaus turned to his friend, beaming with excitement. "So, what do I got?"
Hercules smiled before answering. "To stay out of trouble."
"And you expect me to keep that?" The hunter sounded beyond doubtful.
"For a whole year? Of course not. But I was hoping for maybe a week or two."
"I'll do my best,” Iolaus snorted. Then his eyes lit up and he broke out into a broad grin. “And as for your resolution, you should flirt more." He winked at his friend. “No strings attached, just harmless flirting.” Putting his hand against his chest he added sagely, “It’s good for the soul you know.”
The demigod sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose, "I can't believe I didn't see that one coming.”
“Oh c’mon, Hercules.” Gabrielle tried elbowing the demigod lightly in the ribs, which had about the same outcome as if she’d elbowed a stone wall. “It’s fun.” As if to demonstrate she did an exaggerated wink at Iolaus who grinned and waggled his eyebrows in return.
Ignoring the two blondes who seemed to have launched into a pantomime involving increasingly ridiculous and flirtatious behavior, Hercules turned to his more mature companion. “Xena, how 'bout you? Have you got any New Year's resolution?"
"No," she stated firmly, not taking her scowling eyes off the laughing blondes.
"I could be wrong, but I’m guessing Gabrielle's the one doing most of the household work, isn't she? Maybe you could promise to, I don't know, cook twice a week? Something like that," Hercules suggested, ever on the quest for a more fair and equal world.
The tall woman opened her mouth to reply, but her friend was faster. "I thought a New Year's resolution was supposed to do good, not food poison you."
Xena chose to ignore the younger woman. "I could promise to do the laundry more often, that's as far as I'll go."
"Actually, washing our clothes is the one thing you do help with, and you're not very good at it. I don't understand how you manage to shrink my top every single time."
"It's not that hard."
"What?"
"I said, neither do I."
Gabrielle looked suspiciously at the warrior princess, but the tall woman acted as if she didn't notice. "So, what's your resolution then?" she asked sweetly.
"I haven't been able to come up with anything good," the bard answered regrettably.
"You know, if you travel with Xena, you ought to learn how to defend yourself." Iolaus didn't see the two women exchange a private smile. "If you want to, I can teach you how to use that stick for more than walking," he offered.
"Thank you, I would love that,” Gabrielle answered somewhat exaggeratedly. “Hey, why don't we have our first lesson right now?"
"Sure, why not?" the blond man said with an oblivious smile as he followed the bard a few paces away from Xena and Hercules.
"I had this 'stick'," Gabrielle smiled at the word, "for some time now, and I already picked up a few things. Mind if I show you before we start?"
"Of course not. Go ahead."
The young woman started twirling the staff elegantly through the air around her. Iolaus just stared in shocked surprise. "You know, I think there's something I forgot to mention earlier when we discussed the previous year," she said with a soft voice.
"U-huh." Iolaus still couldn't believe his eyes. Suddenly he felt his feet being swept off the ground, and he landed on this back with a thud.
Gabrielle held her staff against the surprised man's throat. "I'm an amazon princess now."
The hunter called out to his friend, but his eyes never left the staff. "Herc, I think I just broke my New Year's resolution."

MY FANTASY AMAZON CHALLENGE
THE AMAZON LAWS:
Division into Two Courts: The Amazons are divided into two courts, the Fullmoon Court and the Newmoon Court, each with distinct values and emphases.
Simultaneous Governance of the Courts: Each Court is led by a Queen, both born on the same day, establishing a mystical connection between the leadership.
Synchronized Births Queens must conceive and give birth simultaneously, strengthening the bonds between the Courts and maintaining the tradition of simultaneous births.
Challenging Procreation: Procreation is conditioned on winning in combat. Forced laborers must lose in a combat against one of the soldiers of the clan to procreate, being released after procreation unless they procreate with a Queen.
Feminine Sovereignty: All clan members are women; men can only be forced laborers. Male children must be left in other households, while females become members of the Courts.
Limited Forced Laborers: Male presence is strictly regulated, allowing only two forced laborers at a time. This limitation maintains female predominance in the Amazon Courts.
Desertion: Any form of love is prohibited among the Amazons. Involvement in romantic relationships is considered desertion and results in punishment.
Roles: The Amazons hold various roles, but the Ancient, Captain of the Guard, and Matriarch are the most important and prominent.
Lineages: Surnames and lineages are crucial. Changing a surname is only allowed by becoming a princess when born a twin of a member other than the Queen.
Succession: When the Princesses are ready, the Queens have the right to pass on the mantle. Outside of Queen, other roles are not hereditary.
These laws form the social structure and traditions that shape life within the Fullmoon and Newmoon Courts of the Amazons.
Introducing the characters:
1- QUEEN ARTEMIS MOONLIGHT
traits: Amusing, Avoidant and Sociable
occult: vampire
function: Artemis leads the Newmoon Court and focuses on guiding the Amazons towards harmony with nature. She emphasizes peaceful coexistence and strives to preserve the balance with the natural world.
court: Newmoon
2- QUEEN ISIS MOONLIGHT
traits: Appealing; Cold-blooded and Creepy
occult: vampire
function: Isis takes on the role of leading the Fullmoon Court, specializing in war strategy and combat leadership. She ensures the Amazons are formidable warriors, ready to defend their home against any threat.
court: Fullmoon
3- KAREENA BLADE, THE CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD
traits: Short-Tempered, Mean and Heroic
occult: none
function: Kareena, as the Captain of the Guard, is responsible for the safety and protection of the Amazons, implementing defensive strategies, and leading the guard in times of conflict.
court: Both
4- OPHELIA BLADE, THE ANCIENT
traits: Asocial, Talentless and Downer
occult: spellcaster
functions: Ophelia, as the Ancient, holds the role of preserving the traditions and wisdom of the Amazonas. She provides guidance to the Queens and the community, drawing upon her magical knowledge and experience.
court: Both
5- HERCULES BLADE, THE SLAVE
traits: Sensitive, Darling and Reserved
occult: spellcaster
function: Hercules' role as a forced laborer is two-fold. Firstly, it serves as a form of penance for his past actions, a means to make amends for the harm he attempted to inflict on the Amazonas. Secondly, his labor is carefully supervised, allowing the community to keep a watchful eye on his actions and intentions.
court: none
Entries of Chapter 1 -
Artemis- Today was the creation of our brotherhood of Amazons, and also the Creation of my Court, a step towards achieving my goals. I am certain that the New and Full Moon Amazons will prosper. However, the thought of my future heirs weighs heavily on my mind. We need a wise and dedicated Amazon to guide future generations, acting as a Matriarch.
Isis- Today marked the founding of the Full Moon Court, a moment that reinforces our unity. While my sister, Artemis, seeks peace, I take the lead in battle and will rule with an iron fist. The Full Moon will be our constant witness. As I take on the role of Queen, I commit to making the Full Moon Amazons an unstoppable force under the bright glow of the night.
Kareena- Today was the creation of our Amazons group, but, more than that, a day of transformation for me. The Twin Queens presented me with an unusual gift. The vampiric bite that will grant me strength and speed beyond human comprehension. I accepted this gift with gratitude, knowing that as Captain of the Guard, I must rise to the challenge of protecting my sisters. The challenges that lie ahead will be considerable, but I am prepared to face them with fury and determination.
Ophelia- Today I observed with satisfaction the creation of the NewMoon and FullMoon Courts. The Twins Queen lead with skill, and my plan is unfolding as expected. Their duality, combined with my sweet Kareena's skills, will form the alliance I need. However, everything would have been easier if Hercules had followed the original plan. But in the end, I think serving as a slave to the Amazons is a good punishment for him.
