Five Lines Tag

How To Play: Find a line in your WIP (can be dialogue or not) that fits the parameters given by the person who tagged you. Then change one of the parameters and tag some people. Lines can be from multiple WIPs.

A line about a building- Treasure Triplets:

Klein Enterprises was the beating heart of the city. The main office sat in the middle of the city, the building a stately courthouse-looking building with marble and stained glass. It was all very neat and pretty. The actual headquarters sat at the very edge of town. It was a building that actually looked very ramshackle and cobbled together, to the point that newcomers feared that one wrong step would send them crashing through the floor. It was once a one-story building in the 1800s when Connor Klein began his business. However, he refused to tear down the building to make a new one that reflected his success.

A line about the weather- Hell's Studio:

Her legs were ready to give out when she finally reached the town Blur Studios had been in. A fine drizzle had started up, blanketing the world in a fine mist. Suzie panted when she finally stopped by an old, beaten-up mailbox at the bottom of a hill.

A line about a drink- Bad End:

Pamela ignored her, sitting down. A warm mug of what smelled like hot chocolate was handed to her. Riley settled down as Mary Arden took a sip of it. It was hot chocolate, but rather bland. Her family always made it with a mixture of spices. "So, Mary Arden, I bet you have questions." Riley said as she sat down.

A line that is shouted- Hell's Studio:

"STILL YOUR TONGUE!" The echoing male voice came from speakers mounted on the walls. "HOW DARE YOU INSULT MY LORD! You have the gall to insult him?! He, who you abandoned? He who has graciously spared you and welcomed you to his world? I will not allow this stand! I shall prove myself to him! I will have him notice me!" It sounded like the ravings of a madman.

A line that includes a lie- Bride of Loki:

There was a low chuckle before the hallucination cupped Siv’s face and the warmth flooded her. She didn’t bother to struggle. "You're too ugly to be stalked, Mabelle." Another lie. Mabelle was the prettiest girl Siv knew.

Amidst all the stuff going on with Mappa studios, I want to shout out all the animators on staff. They work far too hard, often long and impossible hours, with very little appreciation. Not just for Jujutsu Kaisen, all of Mappa's productions -Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, Chainsaw Man, Hell's Paradise, etc. I hope that the animation staff gets the appreciation they deserve, all roughly 360 people on staff- along with more reasonable treatment. I'm completely fine with waiting a bit longer for episodes if the staff making them are treated like actual human beings.

I directly translated Astarion's back scars

I'm a language nerd (even when the language is fictional), so I decided to directly translate the sigil that Cazador carved into Astarion's back.

I know you do find out the gist of what the scars mean in-game, but I wanted to translate it letter-by-letter, and then word-by-word.

We know that its a poem written in Infernal, which is the language of devils and the hells. If you translate it from Infernal, you get the following:

"Hoc inferius non iurare per ignis

Haec verba loquor

Et hoc mundo mutat"

As you can see, this is not English; its Latin, which makes sense since its a "magical language". Now, if you translate the Latin to English and fiddle with the grammar a bit, you get something like this:

"This I swear by the fires below

I speak these words

And this changes the world."

Obviously this ties in very closely with Astarion's backstory and I think its very cool that Larian took the time to actually make the scars real text instead of just random texture.

ETA: I want to point out that the "non" in the first Latin sentence doesn't actually make grammatical sense. I think its probably there to look cool/fill in the physical design, because excluding it makes the sentence itself make sense, and its exclusion works in the context of the sigil's purpose. So that's why I omitted it from my translation.

Just finished Rot in Paradise. I was expecting a game about you and your friends being stranded on the beach and turning into water addicted zombies, not an allegory for toxic relationships where you can't help those who clearly don't want your help and how the good moments you had doesn't take away their mistreatment of you and how despite how much you love your friends you need to mourn and move on before they (literally) drown you with them.
