“Rick Riordan’s portrayal of Greek and Roman gods is very inaccurate to the actual mythology, and he needs to treat the culture he profits off with respect” and “Rick Riordan’s books mean a lot to people and bring a lot of joy” are statements that can, and should, coexist.

What is the PR disaster in question that made Rick announce TSATS? I wasn’t active in the online fandom at that point
Of course! This was awhile ago so it figures people don't remember it/aren't familiar:
Basically a couple years back (2020) the fandom had some posts circulate discussing the ways different characters in the Riordanverse were written poorly or offensively. There was a masterpost that went around tumblr but the two major points people were particularly focusing on were Piper and Samirah (particularly because Piper had featured prominently again in Trials of Apollo recently and the third MCGA book had further emphasized and discussed Samirah being Muslim, since it was supposed to take place during Ramadan). Basically each had multiple posts breaking down the ways they were depicted incorrectly or offensively. The entire fandom for a little bit was VERY intensely discussing this (and it's around this time the "RR crit" tag got very popularized on tumblr - it did exist before, but suddenly was being used VERY frequently - cause it was that wide-spread - though the discussion took over basically every side of Riordaverse social media on different platforms). People really wanted Rick to respond to these criticisms, so he did!
He made two blog posts, one about Piper and one about Samirah. He has since deleted both so the links are to archived versions. The short version: he essentially tried to justify his poor research and double-down that he hadn't written them offensively, actually, people were just being mean to him. The fandom, of course, reacted poorly to this.
[Further elaborated events under the cut since this got a bit lengthy]
(Fun fact, this all happened within a month or so of the time i posted an open letter on aphobic tropes in the Riordanverse that Rick replied to, and then he immediately followed with announcing that Reyna was intended to be ace-coded [which cause a LOT of fandom debate] before Rick dipped for a couple of weeks, and then came back to post the blog posts in response to Piper and Sam stuff. So I like to jokingly refer to this as "The time I imploded the fandom/drove Rick off of twitter." Twas I that set the house ablaze.)
Rick fully left social media after this and the LT Musical social media manager became Rick's social media manager for the time being.
So this all happened June/July of 2020. Tower of Nero would end up being published in October of 2020 and a few months after that Rick would state that he was done with the series and wouldn't be writing any more series installments involving Percy, and also that he wouldn't be writing a Nico quest following Tower of Nero as it "wasn't his place to" and encouraged the community to write their own versions of Nico's story.
The community continued to circulate the tumblr posts and discuss the topics of Rick's offensive character depictions, and this is also where we see the dramatic shift in how the fandom depicts Piper in fanwork (though in most cases it is admittedly not an improvement 😬) because of all this discussion. This is also around the time when the fandom brought Viria under scrutiny claiming that she was whitewashing Piper as part of the same discussions, through the justification that she was drawing Annabeth as having tan skin (which she does canonically), and if Annabeth has tanner skin then Piper then that's whitewashing Piper? Except they were using completely separate images of not fully rendered Piper art versus Annabeth in dramatic lighting, so it's all very awkward and poor logic, and did actually get kind of racist. A lot of people were calling it "Tannabeth Blackchase" (yeah, i know) or similar and a common sentiment you'd see repeated is "Don't draw Annabeth as having darker skin than Piper, because that's offensive/racist/whitewashing." (Note: it was not phrased "don't draw Piper as having lighter skin than Annabeth" - we also won't get into certain offensive depictions of Native Americans, but I digress). But yeah, the Annabeth stuff in all that did not age well at all.
Anyways, in October of 2021 however Rick would announce that he was co-writing The Sun And The Star - with a lot of heavy emphasis on how Mark Oshiro works as a sensitivity reader, and some false advertising from the official social media that Mark Oshiro was the first time a non-Riordan author would be collaborating on the series (disregarding the ghostwriters completely). One of the big criticisms in the breaking down of issues in Rick's writing was his lack of ever seeking a sensitivity reader, and fans claiming that a sensitivity reader could solve a lot of the problems. This was basically Rick's "look! I totally listened!!!!" (though it did little to actually improve things, based on the book) and in TSATS as well Piper gets a large cameo at the end where the text very directly addresses a lot of points made in criticism of Rick's writing of her.
We also then of course got the CoTG trilogy later, explicitly stated to be for advertising purposes for the show.
So basically, short version: Rick came under scrutiny for a lot of offensive writing within the span of two months, made some bad blog posts doubling down about it, left social media. TOA ends. Rick says he wasn't going to continue the series/write what would become TSATS. Community celebrates the end of of the franchise but also continues to discuss Rick's poor writing and the blog posts at length. Rick suddenly announces TSATS and Mark Oshiro's involvement. Everybody gets distracted from being mad. Show announcement stuff also happens and the discussions peter out.
#pjo#riordanverse#fandom history#rick riordan#rr crit#ask#boywithskull#anonymous#long post //#fun times fun times#im always amused by the bit where i come in. like oh yeah i played a major part in the middle of all of this#i didnt mean to but i was the beginning of the end#maybe thats why this book is my personal hell. its in direct retribution#its really weird though because Rick did not usually reply to people on twitter but he responded to my open letter WITHIN HALF AN HOUR#within half an hour of me posting it he replied and then rapid-fire replied to like two or three other random tweet questions#at which point he confirmed he wrote Reyna with her being alloromantic ace-coded in mind (''but you dont have to agree'')#(i should note also - rick's reply plus the ensuing tweets HEAVILY implies he did NOT actually read my open letter. lmao.)#dipped off twitter for a couple of weeks. came back to post his blog posts responding to criticism about Piper and Sam#and then left social media completely. people kept talking. oh look new book pspspsp. look show pspspsp.#but so. yknow. i did that. it was ME!!!!!! and i will never let him forget. i know what he did.#i will never let him live down shitty PR move to try and sweep those bad blog posts under the rug

the Riordanverse books really went from Chiron dramatically going “oh atheist ppl experience exactly what they expect [nothing] after death, isn’t that so sad??” (in such a tone that’s def very belittling to atheist ppl) to “Local Bostonian Atheist is forcibly dragged to a Viking Afterlife after being straight-up killed at 15”
I do not know if this direction is better but it sure is goofy
#and the only reason I remember the Chiron line is bc I was like 7 or something and was like OH NO MY FRIENDS GONNA END UP IN A DIFF#AFTERLIFE WHAT THE HELL#not art#does does anyone remember this#am I alone#riordanverse#rick riordan#and to be clear I still love these books it’s just something I noticed#percy jackson#magnus chase#I could also b wrong abt who says what line#but there was a line about this it scarred me as a child

You ever just see people talk about the Percy Jackson books and know somewhere, deep in your heart, that none of these people have understood that this is a series made for middle schoolers. And that fandom will very frequently lie to them like, all the time. No, that character probably isn’t ooc, you’re just thinking of what the fandom turned them into. No, this book isn’t a horrible stain next to the others before it, literally all of them were like this. It’s Percy Jackson. It’s cheesy and occasionally makes a very questionable writing decision.
You gotta be in this for the long haul or jump ship my guys. Be cringe and free or be gone
#percy jackson#tsats#solangelo book#rick riordan#percy jackon and the olympians#pjo#the sun and the star#text post#yall are astounding me in ways i didnt know was possible god bless#also this was mostly written by mark not rick. like yes he signed off on it but still this is mostly mark#but its still Fine??? its fine?????? besties a book abt our favorite gays not being perfect is not the end of the world#did i cringe? hell yes. but was i free? tremendously. and i had a lot of fun i think#'bianca is in elysium but she was reincarnated??' yeah thats odd. anyway that scene was cute wasnt it#'everything is so on the nose' yeah its for middle schoolers and percy jackson isnt known for subtlety. its very rare#'will was ooc' weve literally barely gotten anything on him and no povs until now this IS establishing his character#'the puffs remove nicos whole trauma' no it doesnt. its a fantasy way to sort of explain that nicos trauma is now open instead of repressed#do i wish it wasnt sometimes explained as 'now the trauma is gone'? yes. but i think its moreso meant to be a way of nico dealing with them#he still HAS that trauma fellas. hes still going to be living with it. its just gonna be easier now. thats part of healing besties#also we dont know how these puffs are gonna act in the future so like. hush. shhhhhhhhhh. shut. it was literally never going to be perfect#its pjo. i love this series to death but. its pjo. it is. in fact. sometimes badly written. as it has been many times before in books before#and what else??????? it may not be written the greatest but its MY series that isnt written the greatest square up

Just finished Magnus Chase. And it only took me 6 days!!!! And DAMN IS IT AMAZING. People don't hype it up enough. For one, it is quite literally the funniest book Rick has written in my opinion. I caught my ass laughing so many times, and it felt so good. Magnus Chase is such a funny character. And overly sarcastic. And he is such a loser who can't fight for shit.
The best part about this book is how well written each character is. Aswell as how well written the plot is. With representation done in such a natural way, it feels normal. You can tell this book was calculated. Rick put actually thoughtfulness in it and it makes me so incredibly happy. He also captured Norse mythology in such a natural "yea this is a part of our nine worlds and life itself" that I wouldn't even doubt if I saw an elf out my window today. And you can easily tell the personality of each character without the book telling it to us.
I KNOW Magnus is a sweet boy who has so much love to give and is emotional but afraid of vulnerability and is anxious to show it to others even when he wants to out of fear of judgement. I know he LOVES his mom. I know he LOVES his friends. And I know he doesn't hold grudges on anyone. I know Hearth and Blitz mean a lot to eachother. By every sacrifice they made for eachother, every time they rushed to eachother, everytime they complimented eachother. I KNOW Sam and Magnus are close friends. Their dynamic is AMAZING. I know all four of them are "four empty cups" a family. I know Sam is passionate, strong, and determined. She CARES. She cares a lot, and sometimes she feels guilty or weak for caring for those who never seem to care for her back. I know Blitz is insecure in the fact he isn't typical. He isn't like other dwarfs and likes stuff like fashion. And I know there is a lot of hurt in Hearth because of how shit awful his parents were, and he has to carry the weight of their words everyday being disabled and a magic man. And how he feels unworthy. Most importantly, I love how they found the greatness in each other. And how much they carry each others weight. And make each other feel loved and seen and all that yogurt.
#magnus chase#samirah al abbas#blitzstone#idk what their lastnames are if they have any...so imma just tag that😭#sword of summer#mcatgoa#magnus chase and the sword of summer#magnus chase and the gods of asgard#going into media blindly makes me anxious#it's killing having no fucking clue what the hell is gonna happen next#like I didnt know if blitz and hearth and sam would even make it#like ik they would succeed because duhh there are 2 more books but I was like how tf will they make it#annabeth chase#rudolph the red nosed reindeer#ahahaa....#did not expect that epilogue but I wasnt surprised to say the least#rrverse#rick riordan#riordanverse

I saw a youtube video titled something like "the entire story of Greek mythology explained!!!!" and I nearly burst out laughing
#tag rambles 'cause I need to vent a little#I cannot express how funny this is to me#'cause like -- there is no singular plotline that you can explain like a story#just another example of people treating mythology like any other piece of media#and yeah it makes me mad too but my first response was very much disbelief#myths should not be viewed in the same way we do modern media#I know it can be tempting when we have stuff like Percy Jackson; Marvel's Thor or Madeline Miller's Song of Achilles#(I've tried to read American Gods and never finished which is no fault of the book I just didn't click with it)#(but I HAVE read Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology)#(I trust him a whole hell of a lot more than Rick Riordan to understand the complexities and nuances in myth)

again i say to you
if this man would just let the percy series mature and dig deeper into the emotional arcs he presents in chalice and wrath instead of hopping from one kooky adventure to the next and undermining any story depth with fart and piss jokes and blatant flagging to the disney+ audience, we could have had a very good set of stories on our hands
but NO
percy's rage issues, grief, trauma, and just the general angst of being an older teenager on the cusp of a huge life change are all there and every time the story touches them, it's like RR gets electrocuted and told to get back to Conflict Free Therapy Speak zone before things get too messy
additionally, the third act upping the stakes to Oh Shit We're Gonna Die doesn't work if we already know 1) everyone lives and 2) PERCY GETS INTO COLLEGE at the end of this. the whole point of the series has already been decided!! there are no stakes with your main plot or any of the bullshit mini quests! the opportunity to go for a deep dive character book is there and waiting and ready
but NOOOOOOOOO
gotta make sure all of our main characters have been peed on instead, it's fine
#i am beating the horse's decaying corpse at this point#but the failure to let percy mature when the writing itself is clearly calling for it is just insane#let percy and annabeth and grover have actual interpersonal confict with each other and work it out in a real way#if none of the mythological stakes matter make sure the personal ones do#we can still have fun and be funny along the way!#rr crit#pjo#percy jackson#percy jackon and the olympians#book talk with jess#credit to you#Percy has been to literal Greek hell#Does maturity and nuance not matter anymore#like rick riordan hit gold with the original series how has he lost the grasp on his own characters?? his own plot??#where is my depth from the books#where are the stakes#it feels so empty#all i feel is pain#hopefully if i’ve pissed people off now they understand why#The characters have lost their sense of self#There’s so much trauma being ignored by Riordan

Okay, I’m so gonna get hate for this. And it will probably get about 4 notes. This is, by far, the most opinionated thing I have ever posted on here. If you can’t tolerate criticism towards Rick Riordan, the books, or the TV show, please keep scrolling. My goal is NOT to change your mind or start arguments.
I also want to preface this by saying that I love and respect Rick Riordan (even if I disagree with him on things and don’t like some of his choices) and fully acknowledge that he has the right to do whatever the hell he pleases with his own series. I also want to say that I love Annabeth Chase (both the book and tv show version) with my entire being and you will never find me being an Annabeth hater. She’s my girl.
We good? Okay cool. So here’s the thing: I’ve seen a lot of people on here saying things like “If you didn’t like the books, you just don’t know how to have fun,” and “The new book haters are just mad that they aren’t the target audience anymore,” and (my personal favorite) “Nothing in the books has changed, only the readers have.”
And while I see your points, and I respect you, allow me to show you something. Because of the 10 picture limit, I am only going to focus on one specific change: Annabeth’s view of Percy.
WOTTG: Annabeth is surprised to be comforted by Percy
Past Books: Percy is constantly comforting Annabeth
WOTTG: Annabeth is shocked when Percy is smart
Past Books: Annabeth often points out that Percy is intelligent
WOTTG: Annabeth thinks Percy can’t do anything on his own, and Rick communicates that Annabeth is always saving his ass
Past Books: Percy is ALWAYS watching her back, and saving her ass just as much (and Annabeth admits that)
I could put a hundred quotes in here. I could go on and on and on. But I can’t, and I won’t.
My problem with this new book is NOT that it is more goofy than serious. My problem is NOT that little things have changed. My problem is NOT that it’s just for fun. My problem is NOT that it’s much more childish. (And by the way, I’ve read PJO and HOO as an adult, so it’s not like I was a child when I read everything else and am now an adult reading the new ones.) I really did like and enjoy many parts of this book.
My problem is that the characters (especially Annabeth) have flat out changed—in bad ways—and we have no choice but to accept it as canon. My problem is that Rick, while trying to merge his books with his new TV show project, is changing the entire personalities and past behaviors/ tendencies of the characters.
I loved Chalice of the Gods. You know why? It was fun, goofy, and showed the characters that we know and love being happy and adorable. I strongly dislike Wrath of the Triple Godess because the characters—no matter how adorable and happy they might be—are no longer the ones we know and love.
My problem is that Rick Riordan fully admitted that he no longer considers the old book characters when he writes the new books. He is now purposefully incorporating his own personal mixture of the book characters and tv characters and writing those versions instead. Because of his desire to change and transform the series, I doubt he’s even read the original PJO or HOO books in years, which is why everything is so inconsistent. The old book characters—the ones who made the series what it was—are gone. And that is not my opinion. Rick fully admits that he doesn’t imagine them when he writes anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the tv show actors. I adore Walker and Leah and Aryan with my whole heart, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. But the fact is: they will never be exactly like the book characters. It’s impossible for actors to become the words on a page. They’re their own unique version! And likewise, you cannot turn actors into print. It doesn’t work! And why would you try? The books versions were perfect as they were. And the disney kids need to make the characters their own. The two versions can exist side by side, equally as wonderful, and still be gloriously different. We should celebrate the uniqueness of both. But instead, Rick is attempting to merge them into one. And in my opinion, it’s just hurting them both. And I’m gonna get real brave by saying this, but do you want my honest prediction? If he keeps doing what he’s doing now, the TV show is going to get cancelled and the books are going to turn into a joke. I so, so badly hope that this doesn’t happen! I have loved Rick and PJO for many, many years. I badly want both to thrive. But what is going on right now… it is not working, no matter how much we all want it to. And speaking as someone who knows people in the TV/Film industry, I am sadly not the only one who thinks the show is gonna flop. Which is devastating, because Rick Riordan deserves a redemption on the big screen, and the incredible actors deserve to bring this series to life in a new way.
I am not trying to force my opinions onto anybody. You are welcome to disagree with me and move on. I am not saying that I’m right and you’re wrong. If you disagree, that’s okay. If you agree but you don’t have a problem with it, that’s okay. In fact if other people have literally no issues, that makes me somewhat happy. And if you loved the book, I’m honestly so stoked for you. Feel free to just keep on scrolling, my friend.
But me? I’m sad. I’m really, really freaking sad. And I’m a little angry too, even if I don’t have a right to be. I can’t help it because I’m only human. But this is how I—and a lot of other people—feel. And you know what? That’s okay too. Because the fact of the matter is:
Annabeth isn’t the same Annabeth anymore. And Percy isn’t the same Percy anymore. And it’s not because they went through trauma, or because time has passed. It’s because Rick Riordan doesn’t have any interest in writing those versions of them anymore. And I think the comparisons between the old and the new show that fact pretty clearly.
#okay i’m deleting tumblr now#i’m too scared for the hate so i will be absent lol#I PROMISE IM NOT TRYING TO DESTROY RICK I LOVE HIM#but i think he needs to be more loyal to the old fanbase that has been so loyal to him#or not that’s fine too#i could give you guys more book quotes#i could make a whole other post on how percy has changed#but i’m not sure anyone wants that#so for now i will try and shut up#wottg#wrath of the triple goddess#and run very very quickly#pjo#heroes of olympus#percy jackson#annabeth chase#percabeth#percy jackson and the olympians#rick riordan#riordanverse

I watched the new Percy Jackson show and then I reread The Lightning Thief, and my takeaway is…Rick Riordan did some sort of bizarre reversal of the usual adaptation devil’s deal on this one, wherein the key themes of the book are maintained—hell, key themes of the book are amped up and forefronted! The books slowly escalate, not just in the original PJO books but from series to series through Heroes of Olympus and the Apollo books, the idea that this mythological family is fucked up, the parents are doing badly and they need to fix their shit instead of just putting it on the kids. Whereas the show is saying this from day 1! The show also captures the true friendship, the uncomfortable justification of Luke’s choices, the heroes’ sense of otherness from humanity…
But at the cost of so much of the zing of the books? The humor, the absurdist snaps between fantasy and reality like the Minotaur wearing Fruit-of-the-Looms, or the unending quips from Percy that aren’t just rebellious snark, they’re funny. (“…I am the Mother of Monsters, Echidna!” “You mean the thing from Australia??”) And the drama, the fantasy, the mythological stakes—in addition to the total lack of nighttime lighting, I spent half the show thinking everything should be 20% more color-saturated, at least when they’re in Camp Half-Blood or actively fighting monsters, and rereading the book tells me that I was right. Throughout the books, there’s a mounting thunderstorm all across the country, as warning and ambiance of the coming war! Percy only has 1 dream that’s just darkness and a voice; the others include him watching a golden eagle and a giant white horse fighting viciously on a beach! And every god stands out vividly, whereas in the show they mostly come off as Some Guy. In the book, Hades, Zeus and Poseidon are all 10 feet tall (until Poseidon shrinks to tall to Percy), and even Ares is,
vs this? This was the best they could do??
He’s not even throwing fireballs at cops and innocent bystanders in order to make them back the fuck off from his fight with this 12yo. SMH. This is bargain-brand. It’s like they didn’t have the budget for special effects and they didn’t even try.
I guess, as devil’s deals go, I would rather have the themes intact. But damn I wish they’d at least upped the color saturation, and maybe the speed of dialogue. These kids SHOULD spend half their conversations snarking like it’s Avengers (2012) actually. The perfect adaptation remains elusive, until we get both the crushing weight of familial trauma AND epic heroes and villains being fun.

Percy is a dude from the category of screaming "what the hell did you do!" and solve all the problems in 5 minutes. Everyone would have been dead a long time ago if it wasn't for him.
I have mixed opinions on this. On one hand, Percy is the type of person to wait about for the problem to disappear by itself just so he doesn't have to deal with it. Cause even before he found out he was a demigod, he was 100% done with everyone's shit.
But I do agree that he would be able to solve all problems because through so many books we have seen that no matter how much prior planning Annabeth or the Seven or anyone else does, Percy always does his own thing at the end. And it works out mostly for the better than whatever initial situation anyone else had in mind because Percy thinks almost too well on his feet. Every time.
But Percy has such low self esteem that he sees the fact that he has to make so many improvisations more so as his plans never working as less so as an exceptional ability to adapt. Especially when at times he can easily sense that some titan/giant is too powerful so he maneuvers around a direct fight and ends up defeating them by pure strategy and still ends up thinking of himself as "Oh shit I seriously had no plans. I am so reckless and stupid".
His whole character arc could have been evolving into a more confident and self assured but still the usual sarcastic laid back version of himself who no longer doubts his own abilities and becomes the great leader he showed many signs of being. But no, Rick had to ruin it all because, for some reason, 10+ books later and almost all the characters are still the same, just decorated with even more trauma. Rick being Rick, and instead of showing characters working out their traumas and insecurities, he just slaps a relationship on them, and lo and behold, all is better again somehow.
I am kind of disappointed that we never got to see Percy or any other members of the Seven do any solo missions(aside from Annabeth in MoA) . She almost had the very quintessential realization about she needs others and how her hubris will ruin everything if she doesn't keep it in check only for whatever she was doing in the later parts House of Hades and all of Chalice of the Gods to take away even that little bit of character development.
And cause solo missions working out perfectly well for Percy while most other demigods struggle a bit to make it work might finally make him realize that his plans don't suck and he is actually a really really good strategist and somehow an even better manipulator. (Though more on that and his observational skills later).
Or make characters like Frank and Leo whose unique abilities and perspectives on combat could have been shown off more, making them all become more self-reliant.
And even so we could finally get proper idea of limits of certain characters like Piper (cause charmspeak isn't going to get her everywhere) or Hazel (we so need more scenes of her surprising demigods and monsters with not only her unique jewel abilities and her magic.) Plus Nico's combat limits, Jason's stamina limits (no I am not considering that part of canon, you can't tell me it's true, I refuse to stand by it), Thalia's character development as well as her honing her powers and combat abilities more.
So yeah, we really should have gotten a few solo missions instead of so many short stories and all. And a bit more cross-over highlighting the power levels between the Norse, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian demigods/magicians/Valhalla residents/Valkyrie and so on.
To sum it up, tons of missed opportunities by Riordan and even more tragic and terrible progression of previously great characters who just needed a well-made character arc or even some favoritism. (I am looking at Grover and Rachel, who both could have done so so much if Rick had only realized the awesome potential they had).
I have said it many times that it's #percy jackson supremacy. So hell yes everyone would be dead without him, and he is arguably the best protagonist out of any other fantasy action book series. All hail Percy Jackson, the master of sass, and the most beloved but somehow still the most misinterpreted character in the fandom. Really liked this ask, would love more of these regarding Percy or any other characters.

the um. the problem with fanfiction about those guys specifically however. and we all know what guys be serious don’t make me admit to being a desperate little freak who was looking at fanfiction about her guys. anyway the problem is that everybody wants to write the Reunion Moment. everybody wants to write the Getting The Gang Back Together. nobody wants to throw them into the hunger games. or pretend those earlier moments already happened and now they have to like almost die fighting demons in the sewer system. or solving a mysterious murder haunting on the fucking moors… like stop trying to write the wicked powers for cassie. write about those characters being the worst people at isabelle and simon’s destination wedding in scotland. thing i just made up.
despite it all it continues to be true that shadowhunter chronicles fanfiction can never be good. i was just checking!
#goddamn i hate to say it but. rick riordan had the right idea with the sun and star…. he was like i am going to throw that kid in a horrific#situation for the drama. and it was kinda real as hell#but i’m not supposed to be talking about that. i’ve been doing a lot of cringe reading lately#i’m about to start a Real Book don’t worry. well i’ve already technically started it#well that was a year ago. listen reading is hard.

(ooc) few Telemachus (mainly for epic but if this post gets enough traction I can do modern Telemachus headcanons) Headcanons cause I said so!! >:)
—
tw : brief mention of abuse.
.
- whenever he’s around people he’s just most of the time neutral and happy. though when he’s alone he sometimes cries like a baby from all the pent up stress.
- a dog person. REALLY a dog person. he sometimes tames stray dogs and one time he tamed a wolf, he would sacrifice himself for like. one dog. (me too, tel.)
- absolutely LOVES books. though he would hate Colleen Hoover and love Rick Riordan if he was real (he is to me) trust me I’m Homer’s reincarnation.
- he can lie very good like his father and is really fast even if he’s scrawny (TWINK) and giggles like crazy mainly because he’s a legacy of Hermes.
- loyal like Percy Jackson. that’s all.
- he read a bunch of myths when he was young, his favorites are Jason and the Argonauts, Perseus, and Orpheus and Eurydice.
- he cares for others but he sometimes can’t care enough for himself.
- bisexual mess (to me)
- looks like MICO (because I can..)
- sounds like Hunter from the owl house or MICO (again, yes fight me)
- he experienced abuse from the suitors sometimes. the only one who hadn’t harmed him was Amphinomus.
- he’s really clingy to whoever is kind to him. as he didn’t get much treatment like that other than from his mother.
- when he first saw his dad again he started fucking SOBBING but after his father, Odysseus gifted him a carved horse he was able to protect after all of that.
- one time he had to skip a few meals and stay stuck in his room because of the suitors trying to attack him or they were just really drunk.

even tho i don’t particularly like some of the characterizations or the book in itself, the sun and the star is so important to me. a book, coming from a major author like rick riordan, that centers around two queer characters? of course i’m going to love being represented in something that people around the world can hold in their hands and read. it feels like a part of myself is being read by the whole world and understood and????zjajahbqbahwhhwh. it even centers around their relationship, the mutual trust that it takes to walk into hell itself for each other even though there’s the nagging fear that one of them has to leave the other behind in tartarus. the way the two just love each other? so casually? it’s not a spectacle like some queer romances are, it’s just… there. just two boys in love that would follow each other to the ends of the earth and it seems so simple and so stupid to be happy about that but i just am. it just makes me happy to see that, to know that i can be seen in these characters. don’t even get me started on the ending of ToA with piper and shel — piper didn’t even feel the need to explain herself to anyone, she just was queer. she just is. and just being is one of the greatest things ever. i see myself in her and i know so many others do. it’s important for me to be able to hold these books in my hands i guess and know its real and that im never going to be alone and that someone out there sees me
^^ so important to me. so so. important

Welp
I finally made an intro for y'all, because why the hell not? (I'm bored)
Hi, hello, konnichiwa, all that jazz. My name is Riley, but you can give me any nicknames or anything as long as I am fine with it after you use it! I write fanfiction mostly, but I'll write some stuff that isn't if you wanted me to.
I am going through a gender crisis, but I'm going as gender fluid for now. I'm using he/him as of now/today, I'll change this and other things that say my pronouns when needed
Things to call me: Literally almost ANY pet name, I love pet names :D. You can give me nicknames if you want. If I don't like something you've called me, I will tell you and ask you to please call me something else. There are only THREE things NEVER to call me as they are triggering to me, they are: babe, princess, and bear! But otherwise you can call me anything.
Things I'll write:
Angsty stuff
Fluffy
Crack fic's :3
Any Fandom's I'm in :>
Ships
Whump of almost any kind
Self harm of almost any kind (Specify what kind of kind you want)
Drug over-use, or alcohol intake
Abuse
Child Abuse
Family Abuse
Hinted NSFW, maybe smut depending
I basically have almost no restrictions.
Suicide/Suicidal themes
Any sort of LGBTQ+ themes (Not coming out tho)
Mild SA/Rape themes (Not much tho, beware)
Sometimes x reader if you're lucky, but mostly male reader
Things I wont write:
NSFW on minors, or minor actors
Minor x Adult (Especially explicit)
Fandoms I'm not in
Hurt no comfort (Maybe?)
Pregnant stuff (Idk, just don't even ask-)
Coming out fic's, for now at least (LGBTQ+ coming out)
Fic's where the main plot is about breaking up (I just suck and don't like them)
Fandoms I'm in, and WILL write for:
The Outsiders by se hinton
BBC Merlin
Voltron: Legendary defender
Teen Wolf (Not the movies)
One Piece
ATLA (Not really Korra)
Demon Slayer
TMNT (Mostly 2012 and 2018)
Fandoms I'm in, but probably won't write for:
All Rick Riordan books
Stardew Valley
School Bus Graveyard
I will update this later depending! I'm mostly working on The Outsiders, with slight Voltron tho.
You may introduce me to a fandom, and I may join it!
My Ao3 is Introvert_Extrovert!
Uhh, I don't think I have a DNI list at all. But if you DM me any thing about romance, or kids, or being MARRIED, I will respond but I might block you if it gets out of hand. I'm aromantic, not asexual, but still.
Just, don't DM weird things romantic/sexual stuff, I'm cool with platonic stuff. But just don't if it's anything more. And no, don't ask for a photo of me or my face or anything. I will not show it.
I update this a lot, so maybe check this again before requesting just in case! General tags below.
