Sociopath Traveler (Part 1)
The first Octopath Traveler game released in 2018 provided a lot of sociopaths on its own, enough to make a list in and of itself. The eight travelers have to come across plenty of antagonists, and these ones showed the most antisocial traits.

Helgenish is such a perverted brute. I can't imagine how many girls he's had killed. but at least the other 3 dancers will be freed.

I'm playing Octopath Traveler for the first time, and I've finished Primrose's Chapter 1, and I gotta say. I can't imagine there will be anything more satisfying in this game than killing Helgenish.

primrose's ch3 is GOOD btw
#fucking simeon bro.......#i cant yap too hard without doing spoilers so heres another tag to fill space lalalala#ot1 spoilers#octopath spoilers#ANYWAYYY it starts with primrose coming back to her hometown which is already pretty strong#seeing a guy Fucking dying which is a great way to establish the harm done by the obsidian people and establish their power#.because if they didnt have a great amount of political power simeons entire motivation would fall through#but in the flashbacks he was sooo fucking good the writing (+ eng translation) did a good job of creating a gray area#between 'nice guy who is also courteous because primrose is a noble' and 'creep who might have a slightly overbearing crush on this kid'#bc shes like. 8 right ? and hes old enough to work as a gardener w/o his parents also being in service of the azelharts#so probably 17 at least?#ok um. i just looked up his age on the wiki and i dont know what the fuck is going on there#i didnt spoil myself but why is he 126.#anyway i actually feel like thats worse 💀#and then his breakdown calling himself primroses one true love..#shes so good i love the contrast between everyonee calling her beautiful + whatever the fuck helgenish and simeon were doing#and her showing no romantic interest in anyone. romance repulsed icon tbh#3 people this chapter were like 'lady primrose you have grown so beautiful since we last saw you' and shes like 😐#coming back around to simeons twist villain shit they went OFF reinforcing primroses performer theme#'the crowd gasps' etc etc. DAMN BRO#a lot of her story is theatrical drama coded ime. like with the ending narration saying 'tragic or happy ending'#she does seem like a dark take on a princess archetype which is cool#anyway the actual use of the game is good here too#the dark screen after she gets knocked out with the perfectly timed music??#and the flashbacks and the use of the titles on peoples speech bubbles#because the shift from 'simeon' to 'simeon the puppet master' kind kf made me lose it a little bit#RIGHT BEFORE the flashback where hes just 'gardener' ? yeah thats a banger#overall this is fairly simple good storytelling but it all comes together along w the actual game mechanics to make one of my...#... favorite chapters so far. plus im really excited for her ch4 now.

OLD MAN SWEEP???!
allured the old man at the entrance to sunshade for fighting helgenish, and im getting reminded of the time i played primrose ch1 with a friend and allured the same old man, and every time we summoned him into battle we would say "summon the old man!" like a king would summon a wise and powerful royal sorcerer

Octopath Traveler Characters Ranked by How Good they are at Cooking
(Objective list up for no debate I am not wrong)
/j
(From best to worse)
————————————-
-H’aanit
This is actually in the game. She’s good at cooking, or at least baking, but I feel as though it’s fair to say that it extends to cooking as well. It also makes sense. Let’s be honest, Z’aanta can’t cook for shit. I think H’aanit would rush to learn so she can provide for them just so she didn’t have to eat his cooking. Also hunts can last a long time and she probably had to do a lot of campfire/over flame cooking prior to her journey to begin with. I think she’s also the most passionate about it as I can see it being a hobby of hers. (Also she hunts for her own meat! It’s hard to see this being up for debate)
-Olberic
This one might be more controversial this high up, but I believe he just has the most experience. I think he cooked a lot for the fellow soldiers during the war and he also lived alone in Cobblestone for along while, I think he’d pick up a lot of cooking skills a long the way. Also, he just kind of gives off the vibe of a dad who loves to grill. I think he isn’t as good at baking as H’aanit which is why he’s placed below her, but he can make an incredible fucking stew.
-Alfyn
I think this has the same reasoning as how chemistry and cooking go hand in hand, if you substitute apothecary/alchemy instead of chemistry. I think it also makes sense that the group doctor has a good grasp on cooking. Besides job based reasoning he seems like the type of person to help his mom out with cooking dinner ( I think also his mom taught him well and he loves making her recipes 🤧) I think especially after she died he really stepped up to help cook for Zeph and Nina (because they don’t have parents either, or at least I think I do)
(This is where there is a big gap between number 3 and 4, and a close race for 4-6. I think you could rearrange these next one as I feel they’re all around the same level)
-Tressa
This is kind of similar to Alfyn where I feel like it’s something she did with her family before she leaves on her journey. It just seems like the sort of thing they’d do together. I also think she’d be the best gatherer of ingredients, and I think she has a knack for creating her own recipes on her own merit. (I also think she improves a lot under H’aanit and Olberic’s guidance when it comes to cooking over the campfire)
Therion-
This is based on the fact that he’s had got to eat somehow, and as skinny as he is I don’t think he just eats stolen apples. I think he can cook with the bare minimum needed to survive. Like the real-world equivalent of knowing to put water in the easy-mac cup. Not extensive, but he knows the basics and can help out the group. (Also while not as skilled with picking out the best options I think he also is quite good at gathering ingredients)
Ophilia-
Like Therion I feel like she knows the basics, but she didn’t have much need to learn how to cook back in Flamegrace as that was more of the other clerics in the church territory. I do however think she improves the most during her journey, as she seems the type to be a quick learner when she’s focused on improving a skills.
Primrose
She lived in a mansion with servants for the first years of her life who would cook for her, and then I don’t think it would come up after Geoffrey died. I think she was busy doing other things, and unlike her bestie Therion I think there was just no free time for her to learn. (As shitty as Helgenish was I do think he fed them, though no trust in how much or nutritious it was). She does learn a bit and (unlike our last place) is able to help out with the cooking, she just is inexperienced and doesn’t have a knack for it.
-Cyrus
Are we surprised? No! This man is a disaster. He’s the definition of high intelligence low wis. I think he put all his energy into his studies that when it comes to life skills like cooking he just ignored completely and is shitty. Age≠experience in his case and he just keeps on making messes of things. I think it’s a Spencer Shay deal where if he simply touches a dish while cooking it’ll become inedible. He has been banned from being near the cooking pot, and settles for just making the fire before being shooed away.

octopath 1 protagonists ranked by confirmed kill count
Tumblr media
notes:
technically redeye is implied to be graham crossford in the postgame so you could bump her up to one but how the hell was she supposed to know that
it's not confirmed whether esmeralda dies or not but she never shows up again
ok, yes, alfyn does kill one guy, but in his defense,
yeah so i think people either forget or don't notice this but therion doesn't actually kill people if he can avoid it. gareth forcefully engages him in a fight to the death and therion defends himself, but other than that he leaves people alive even when it's actively dangerous for him to, mainly darius but also literally everyone else. i'm told his japanese battle dialogue makes it clear he doesn't even really like fighting, which is a lot more in line with his story/banter personality.
ophilia kills a guy but her story takes place in a childrens picture bible where killing is fine if the guy is ontologically evil so this fails to make her any more interesting
its so fucking funny to me that cyrus kills people. like a lot of people too, hes firmly on the same side of the "killing people" scale as primrose and olberic, the two people whose entire occupation revolves around killing people, and then sitting right next to the assassin is a college history professor. like sure they were all serial killers and two of them turned into big monsters but both of those two were people that he personally knew?? cyrus is the only motherfucker in octopath who takes direct action by killing his shitty boss and im invoking my "call a fictional character a communist based solely on me liking them" card for him. cyrus albright is an ML and we should all aspire to his willingness to cast triple boosted alephan's wisdom lightning blast on those who would keep the working class underfoot by trying to keep knowledge behind paywalls and exclusivity. also that one unrelated serial killer in quarrycrest but thats a freebie he was making people into blood crystals
yeah primrose kills people obviously. she pulls just ahead of cyrus by killing helgenish in chapter 1
olberic only kills one person in his story(werner) but he was a soldier and confirms in a travel banter with alfyn that he has killed thousands of people. neat-o beans

💚💖💔 for the ask game (ot1)
Alright, Sly, here’s my opinions on OT1!
💚 I’m gonna have to talk about my boy Alfyn here. He might not have scholarly smarts like Cyrus, but he is not dumb. He’s actually pretty clever when he deals with different situations in his story. His chapter 3 was probably the roughest because he was caught completely off guard, but at least he was able to save a child from danger in the end.
💖 My strongest hot take about Octopath 1 was that it was decent at what it was trying to do as a game. Yes, the writing can be stronger in parts and weaker in others, but there’s enough variety to appeal to people with different tastes in stories. There’s only so much plot you can tell in four chapters, and I genuinely fell in love with some of the traveler’s tales just as they are. There is also at least one thing I enjoyed about every traveler tale. Leaving the story aside, I love the battle system and it’s fun to try different setups to destroy your late game enemies and try to take on the secret endgame boss!
💔 I would remove Helgenish. I absolutely hate his guts and despise what his presence does with the world building of Sunshade. It also might be more interesting to have Primrose’s chapter 4 boss hinted at in chapter 1 in some way instead.

I KNOW ITS THE WORST THING IN THE WORLD we didn’t get to stab him enough in my opinion

Every time i see Primrose's first chapter, it always makes me feel creeped out. Helgenish is such a worm and the way he speaks to Primrose makes me feel sick. Good thing she killed him :)

octopath stories favorite to least favorite? !! including both 1 & 2 if u want!!!
hey. hi. hwat's up. i'm the #1 apologist/defender of the ot1 stories so it's more like tiers than ranking OK. this includes my biases.
mild spoilers for ot1
tier 1: cyrus & therion this one is obvious. biggest parts i like are how strongly cyrus' story indirectly characterizes him through how he makes very scary situations feel lower stakes bc he doesn't treat them very heavily (even if he should) / and how well written i think therion's thought process + Brain Problems are. specifically in the area where his healing is not linear. in fact with how he acts in cotc (summarized as: about as "friendly" as his early ch3 but not as much as ch4) it makes me think the events in ravus manor was a big push back for him and it wasn't only wellspring that gave him a kind of relapse or obstacle...
tier 2: primrose, h'aanit, alfyn. primrose is carried by her backstory imo. disclaimer i hate her visual (outfit) design but this is stories. and it's soo cool that the game does not dance (eheh.) around her being a sex worker nor does it imply she hates it or was forced into it. she chose to work in sunshade knowing what she was getting into because she decided it was her best chance at getting the information she needed. the job itself is neutral to her and its helgenish that's negative. i love h'aanit's story so much because it puts such a focus on her love for her adoptive father. she's super nonchalant about every incredible thing she does in her journey because "master has done jobs like these all the time." until she gets to the monster her father hasn't killed and even then she's like OK i need to go reunite with my fath- i mean mentor now. alfyn's is really good in theming & using foil characters to the fullest with vanessa, miguel, and ogen. really good at the nuance of the medical field and such.
tier 3: tressa, ophilia, olberic. to me no tier is that far below the above one i love them all so so much. so instead of rehashing the usual criticisms i'm gunna keep saying what i like about em. tressa's is well-suited to the coming-of-age theme while still keeping her in the context and stakes of the world. i think putting her in a port town was a great way to have her already be very well-versed in how to handle herself and conflict. ophilia's makes sense in her being 'bland' or her early chapters being too calm because like. that's kinda how she's been her entire life after joining the church. i think people just ignore lianna's part of the story beyond [major spoiler ahead] her being morally grey/temporarily antagonist because their dynamic is incredibly important to the story. lianna was always the one participating more directly in the church, delivering the sermons, and she was the one who was supposed to do the kindling. its their fathers illness that forces ophilia into that role that wasn't 'suited' to her because shes 'just' adopted, 'just' an orphan, 'just' a nice girl. also lianna's half of the story is about how people get coerced into joining cults so i dislike when she's reduced to a villain for being actively and intentionally manipulated (one of my friends didn't know, but mattias poisoned their father. he killed him, specifically to have power over his daugher/s. lianna wasn't decidedly turning to him for answers, he was pulling her along.) OK. i will be the first to admit that olberic's story is super weirdly paced but its a fun story. it escalates a little bit each chapter and ends with finality and closure. also ERHARDT ! !!!!!!! ERHARDT ERHARDT IS IN THIS ONE. we love that guy. i love that guy. olberic loves that guy.

Inktober 2023 ; Day 15/31
Day 15 : Dagger (Dague)
Tumblr media
Ever since that dreadful day were her father Geoffrey was viciously murdered by 3 people with a crow tatoo, she always has it by her side.
This dagger that used to belong to her deceased father, the perfect weapon of choice to take revenge on the ones that took his life away. A way for Geoffrey to always be alongside his daughter even after his death.
She waited for years to finally have the opportunity to avenge her father's death. She has been through a lot of pain. She even lost the only person that was there for her ; her only friend ever since that day : Yusufa. Losing 2 people she cares about the most was too much for Primrose to handle... She straight up murder Helgenish, the man that turns her into a pleasure for men's eyes, and the one that took her friend's life.
She finally had the chance to find the ones responsible for her father's death : Rufus, Albus, and their leader, Simeon.
She murdered them with no remorse, and she finally felt at peace.
But even with that, she always kept her father's dagger close to her. When she was finally back home, in the Azelhart mansion, she still has it, sometimes she even attach it on her hair so she knows it's there.
"Always have something to defend yourself. You'll never know what could happen in this World..."

I don’t know how Primrose’s chapter plays when she’s your starter (this is my first run) but I assume the scene with Helgenish is still much funnier when a priest (Ophelia) and what are basically two trained hitmen (H’aanit and Olberic) are ten feet away. Dog you ain’t getting away with this!
