🎆🎊🍾 Happy New Year From the Whole Nesbitt Fam (with Goths, Gordons, Bells, and a Landgraab, too!) 🎇🎉🗓️

I was going to let this post tomorrow, but I kept thinking that's just too late. So this morning was for plot and this afternoon is for pretending the Nesbitts got together for a family portrait on their lawn at midnight on New Year's Eve.

That's the whole main legacy family in one place to ring in the coming year!

Also, it took three decades but I finally picked a couple name for Daisy and Neal. Happy New Year to Neasy and fam, but mostly to you reading this right now! 🎊🍾

I loaded up the game at night and didn't want to wait for morning. Then I struggled for many hours getting this to look even half decent, trying to keep them posed and waiting for them not to all be breathing steam. Finally I got 16 of 17 sims to pose and Heather to stand somewhat as if she's part of the whole thing, so I'm very happy to call this a day night in celebration of founders Daisy and Neal and all they've built together after 32 years of marriage.

This is by far the most sims I've posed yet so I'm ringing in the New Year with a new challenge for myself. Despite the poor choice of setting and lighting I'm very happy with it - especially since it took three poses in one to get done.

I mainly used @goldoradove's excellent Happy Family pose for 19 sims. But Tetra could not be found among the feet beneath the sofa so I switched tactics and posed her and Heather with BommieSims' Children's Day posepack (only Tetra stayed put), which I can't actually find to link anymore. If anyone knows where to find it, let me know! And Ash was posed with @somneasims' Our Legacy posepack, which I really like a lot - I also used it for Bella and her fam's cozy Winterfest portrait. Even Heather, who isn't looking at the camera, at least looks engaged in the moment enough (watching Tetra balance on her dad's arm when she should be holding her?!) for me to say I'm happy.

Daisy, Neal, his brother Karl, all four kids and six grandkids, plus son-in-law Kris Bell, daughter-in-law Cassandra, future son-in-law Conrad Gordon, and Karl's husband, Mortimer Goth (he's also Cass' dad and Michael and Sammy's granddad; since they missed out on Bella's Winterfest portrait I definitely had to include them now.)

You emit energy that just gives him that daily boost.

Whether it's your confidence and lightheartedness or a good joke, he usually has a smile while hanging around you.

He also likes to join in on playing the comedian with you if he feels creative, so you're a fun duo!

He's curious why Chris likes you so much.

I mean, he can see why, you're like, the best person ever to be around, (in his opinion) but still.

And you're kind enough to share anything extra with him!

You got him by a surprise when it first happened, as at the time you were friendly, but only briefly spoke to each other.

Next on the trip list was "Yukon". You knew it was gonna be cold. But being the TV host's favorite intern wasn't that bad, you knew you were probably gonna get decent clothing. As you expected, the temperature was freezing. But of course, Chris couldn't be cold, so he got himself a cozy and stylish jacket. You and Chef also got the blessing of getting something warm to wear, unlike the rest of the campers. You felt some hope after Chris announced that he ordered the jackets for the others, but it quickly washed away when you heard his response to Heather that "they should arrive in six to eight weeks". You sighed, but ultimately you were helpless to do anything. You took a liking to Cody, he was fun to be around and you thought his "tough man" was both entertaining and kinda sweet. I mean, at least he tried, right? You started talking in the short moments when you both had a break and a chance to interact with someone in between the challenges. You never went out of your way to help anyone as it was technically cheating, but you felt like you had to do something when you saw Cody freezing after he fell into the cold water and Sierra had to rescue him. You saw her throw him on the land from the floating ice block, thinking he's somewhat safe now, until you heard the abrupt sound of him hitting the nearby mountains which made you cringe from the secondhand pain. Once the camera focused on the other contestants trying to make it through the challenge, you sneakily approached Cody, who was visibly shaking while laying on his back and processing what just happened. "Oof- Dude, you alright?" You hovered above him with a concerned look on your face. "Y-Y/N?" He managed to stutter out while the cold tried to shut up him up. You offered him a hand so he could get up, to which he accepted with a shaking grip. Without a word, you gave him the only thing you had on you, your jacket. "T-That's for me?" He asked, a bit in disbelief for your kind act. "Of course, I can't let you freeze to death." You quickly explained with a smile on your face. "But what about you?" He questioned once more, seeing as you had nothing else to put on. "Hey, I haven't fallen into the freezing water, did I?" You pointed out, although you appreciated him worrying about you as well. "R-Right." He flashed a shaky smile and extended his hand as you passed him the clothing item. "T-Thank you." He tried to keep his teeth from grinding, which stopped as soon as he put it on. The cold was still biting your ass, but at least you felt good knowing he wasn't about to die anymore. Cody started to feel a bit awkward seeing you start to shake, though. "Hey- now that you're the one being cold, I feel kinda selfish here." He admitted, halfly-joking. You took a second before responding. "Well- There's always an option with huddling for warmth" You responded, also halfly-serious. You didn't mind close contact and free warmth, so you hoped Cody wouldn't either. "Unless you got cold feet." You heard a slight chuckle come out of his lips after your words. "Okay. But only to break the ice." He put on a grin which showed his goofy tooth gap. He was pleasantly surprised with the amount of casualness from you, but also a bit lost on how to act, so he resorted to lightning up the mood as well. You reciprocated the giggle and stepped closer, feeling his body against yours. He hesitated a little, but finally embraced you into his arms. "Don't let Sierra see you though, you might make some enemies with her after that." He warned you only slightly serious about it.

Cody was far more casual and friendly with you after that one kind gesture.

And with time, he began to see you as legit one of the closest people he got to meet on the show.

But the thing that made him enamored in you was when you got to his heart through his stomach.

You knew that the teams had to endure Chef's horrible cooking each time they lost, and you were glad when you didn't have to worry about the food being a probable cause of your death when Chris gave you your share of the meals. So, naturally you also wanted to grant that opportunity to your close acquaintance as well. Per usual, you approached Cody after you had a moment to yourself. "Hey Codemeister, what's up?" He turned his head towards you as he heard the familiar tone of your voice. "Y/N, hey!" His face lighted up and he straightened his back to properly look at you while sitting on the crappy, wooden seat, "Had your dinner already?" You asked casually, sitting next to him. "If that's what you call it- yeah." He cringed at the economy class food. "Why?" "Well, I just had this cookie that i conveniently kept for you, so..." You slightly teased as your hand slowly got the packaged, delicious goods out of your pocket. "What, dude, no way!" He gasped slightly as he saw the cookie in it's glory. "It's mine?" "Yeah." You nodded with a smile, already happy about his excited reaction. "You're amazing!" He attacked you with a hug without thinking twice. You felt Sierra staring daggers at you.

OKAY this is quite literally the best fanfiction i’ve ever read. Not only is it incredibly well written and very in character, but there’s a whole second book with different perspective for some of the story called “Hawaiian Style.” It’s a World Tour rewrite where team chris is really really really really hot doesn’t lose the London challenge, so Noah and Heather more or less switch roles. Highly HIGHLY recommended. (The slow burn will drive you to insanity.)

THIS ONE!!!!!!! Alejandro gets caught in a time loop right before the beginning of the London challenge. This one is SO CRAZY CREATIVE and takes so many twists and turns. Incredibly enjoyable, and still on going. I love how well the writer uses time loop tropes, as that’s one of my favorites ever. Goes a little into some darker themes as well, so please be aware of that! Overall a very good read with a lot of fun time loopy stuff going on with everyone.

Hunger games au! Noah and Gwen are the two tributes from District 12, and Noah plans to get Gwen to the very end as the victor. “We’re going to make a hardcore horror movie!” Hiccup and his friends all gathered at Hiccstrid’s house and that’s what Tuffnut blurts out just as the previous conversation died down. What was it about? Well, no one can remember, not after that news.

“Ah, you what?” Hiccup asks, perplexed.

“No, notus, we!” Ruffnut emphasizes, her arms wide to gesture at the entire group she sees before her. It’s not just the twins who will be making this horror movie, but all of them.

Everyone sits outside by the pool. One would think that owning a home with three bedrooms and a pool would be super expensive, especially in this economy. But on the island of Berk, housing prices are still reasonable. Not that Hiccup coming from probably the richest family here doesn’t help.

“And why would we help you out?” Snotlout asks, dressed in speedos. He lifts his sunglasses to take a look at the twins with his signature judgmental look.

They’re all dressed in some type of swimwear. Two pieces, one pieces, speedoes or trunks. All but Hiccup and Fishlegs, who are both wearing a shirt because of different flavors of insecurities.

“Uh, because it’s an awesome idea and we should all totally join in! We already got a storyline!” Tuffnut states, feeling around for the notebook he and his sister have been writing in for the past couple of days. Briefly, he forgot he doesn’t have it on him because he left it in his jeans.

“Look at us and tell me we aren’t the perfect people to make one,” Ruffnut crosses her arms in a brief moment of smugness as she bathes in the genius of their idea.

Then she turns her attention to the rest. “Snotlout? Total jock!”

“Psh, Snotlout? Really?” Dagur asks incredulously. He feels like he would make a much better fit for that role.

“Heather? Look at her hair!” Immediately, there’s a storm brewing in Heather’s eyes. “Give her some ghostly makeup, make her peek around a corner, pull her hair in front of her face and you have the perfect ghost woman. Drenched catlady if we throw a bucket of water on her!”

Heather crosses her arms, not sure if she’s more offended or more flattered. She has a good singing voice and she can play a couple of instruments, why can’t she just slap some music together for their movie idea instead?

“Fishlegs has the perfect build to be a knife or chainsaw wielding maniac from the 80s!”

“Hey, that’s not true!” Fishlegs protests. He could never be a maniac who wields weapons of any kind.

“Ruffnut and I are obviously the producers and the writers and… You know,” Tuffnut takes over from his sister.

“And what about me?” Hiccup asks, perhaps feeling a little bit left out. He likes horror on occasion, mostly in the months from September to November, dubbed the “spooky months” by their group. One of his favorites include “The Thing,” even though he’s quite squeamish. He’s a fan of practical effects.

“Our creative team, duh!” Ah yes, the creative team composed of only one person. “We’re going to need practical effects and you always nail your Dreadfall costumes!”

That he does indeed! Last year, he decided to go with a classic; the zombie. Together with his artistry and after raiding the local art store, he put together something that looked life-like. The year before that, it was the legendary Lycanwing and it was a group costume then.

“Besides, you’re tall, skinny and freakishly flexible, you would be amazing as the monster!” It’s Ruffnut’s turn to continue. Provided he get some acting lessons, of course.

“You’re not seriously considering this, are you?” Astrid asks, recognizing that glint in his eyes. They’re both sitting on the same plastic lounge chair. Hiccup looks back at her, taking a sip from his soda can with a straw. He just likes the challenge, that’s all.

Oh, and dressing up, of course.

“Can I ask Toothless to join us?” Hiccup asks, wondering in his dragon’s stead.

“Hiccup!”

“Astrid? Total final girl!” And as suddenly as those words roll off Ruffnut’s tongue, she’s not so opposed to the idea anymore.

“I think you would make a great monster, Babe,” she tells her fiancé who laughs at her change of heart.

“So do you guys actually have an idea already?” Snotlout asks, splayed out on the floor next to the floor. It’s warmed by the sun. “Cause you’re just kinda throwing several different ideas into the group.”

“That’s because we have several different ideas, Snotman!”

“Several different great ideas!”

Several different great ideas indeed! And their friends will hear each and every one of them.

I just need to talk about how unfair Gwen's eliminations have been in every season.

Season 1: She wasn't even the flipping canon winner like what the hell. Like in season one, it was her season. Gwen was doing so well and had won the most challenges in one season according to the wiki page and as everyone says, 'this was her only good season'. That was not but I'll write about that later. Anyways like, this would've been the perfect thing to prove all the players wrong when they all chose Owen for their own selfish reasons (A party). But no. They made her lose and she is an alternate winner. Wtf.

Season 2: God, I don't even know where to start. How did she owe Trent's team? It was clearly Trent's fault that he was going all crazy and somehow she was responsible for that. The girl had gotten so annoyed and uncomfortable that she broke up with the guy. Justin knew that but somehow it was still her fault. Like if you want her to be eliminated just not as stupid as that because she didn't owe anything. And like I actually can't stand Leshawna after season one because why would you listen to Heather? Oh, because Gwen hit him with a shovel? Did you try to talk to her? I bet she didn't even know about the break-up. I also can't stand Trent. He pisses me off so much in the aftermath.

Season 3: Now, in season one, Courtney went all out complaining, crying, whinging about her unfair elimination which she deserved. She wasn't that nice, generous person. But somehow she was permitted to join season 2. Now to season 3, Gwen had to do a tie-breaker in something she was allergic to. And she was just off the hook like that? 'Oh but that was her karma.' Bro, that's too far. Allergies? Courtney did 2 seasons worth of shit and all she received was her boyfriend cheating on her. Gwen did one bad thing and was hated by the whole cast, hated by the viewers (You guys), and had an unfair elimination. I wouldn't even be annoyed if Gwen came back the next season acting like Courtney in season 2 because like why couldn't the tie-breaker be something she isn't allergic to. Is that so hard to do? It was so unfair and was definitely too far since Courtney was also going to cheat on Duncan, her boyfriend, in front of him with Justin. (She was going to kiss Justin in the princess episode) Did she get her karma? No.

Season 5: This season, Gwen had been acting a bit odd but she still shouldn't be hated because I say so. Anyways, she made it far this time (Luckily) and was doing so well until that challenge. Why was smart trying to fix it. Chris wouldn't have even noticed until Gwen admitted it. No way that was worth eliminating because she was creative with it at least and didn't even look bad. Scott and Mike/Mal didn't even come with anything and somehow she was the one taking the boot. That season sucked ass because of the break-up and how the show only cared about Mal and Zoey. Like if they really wanted Mal to win then just make him win not something as stupid as this. Gwen could've made it to the finale the second time if she wasn't eliminated for this dumb thing.

Now time to defend her.

'Season 1 was her only good season!' The fuck, no. She just became more involved with people like Courtney, Duncan, and Trent. The only drama Gwen had been in was with Heather but it wasn't big drama.

In season 2, she was dragged into it with Duncan and Trent. That breakup. That incredibly stupid break-up. Not because I'm a Gwent shipper but because Gwen was visibly uncomfortable and everyone took Trent's side. Why? I don't even know. Aw, poor Trent. Gwen broke-up with him. HE RUINED IT FOR HIMSELF. And the guy looked like he had some issues so maybe it was right that he wasn't in a relationship at the time. And with Duncan. They didn't come out of nowhere. They were slightly hinted throughout Island and it was pretty obvious they would be friends so like, leave them alone. Anyways, don't hate on her because she's still the same person but trying to juggle drama between those three and possibly Leshawna and Heather.

In season 3, I will agree that what she did was wrong but it's unfair that everyone is only mad at Gwen for the situation. Courtney drove Duncan away and practically already ruined their never-lasting relationship and Duncan made it official by cheating. Like, be mad at them. Leave Gwen alone because you're acting as if she wasn't feeling guilty. She was and if you're mad at her you have to be mad at everyone else who'd cheated such as Bridgette, Lindsay, Trent, Beth, and whoever else cheated in the show. But they didn't hurt Courtney's feelings, right? Well, in Island, Heather was snuggling on Duncan. This was Courtney and Duncan's relationship prime time. Why was he allowing it? Why was he flirting with Heather? Why isn't Heather shamed for her actions, huh? Oh, because it's strategy. You guys just don't like real love, huh? Because Gwen and Duncan really did love each other and they didn't have to say it to prove it, alright?

In season 5, as I've said before, she changed. You know why, because of stupid fans trying to bash a cartoon character. It's been a decade or whatever since the show and people are still riled up over the cheating. What the actual fuck? And to make things worse, Gwen probably lost all her friends which she did not deserve at all because everyone on the show acted like that. So yes, Gwen did act desperate to be friends with Courtney. The guilt in the two years gap between season 3 and 5 would've eaten her up and she was probably one of the only people who apologised. But no, she was annoying and desperate. Why is it fair that every character who'd cheated or was the homewrecker was forgiven except for Gwen?

Also, in the show she said that Courtney and Duncan weren't together at the time. Don't you ever think that maybe they weren't together? Maybe they were together due to contracts and forced or anything could happen. Gwen wouldn't lie about that and yes, she did say that she kissed Courtney's boyfriend. I think that was in season 3 she said that and maybe she wasn't allowed to say it was a contract relationship or whatever but was still feeling guilty about kissing him. And maybe since it's been 2 years, she was allowed to claim that their relationship wasn't an actual relationship but gave up and said she kissed her boyfriend since facing the facts weren't going anywhere. Strange, right?

Anyways, Gwen was good in every season she was on but was dragged into more drama. And maybe that's why she was different. Funny what thinking does to a person, huh?

Hopefully, people stop bashing Gwen and give her a chance because out of all the characters in the show, she didn't deserve it. However, if you think not, then block me and don't talk to me because I despise Courtney/Duncney fans. Well, the annoying ones and I've only spoken to annoying ones but if you think you're a decent one, please share your opinion RESPECTFULLY. I've never had issues with Gwent/Trent fans, but the same thing goes to you guys too.

Heathers Review (Pelican Productions) - 12/09/2024

Stepping into Heathers, I knew we were in for a wild ride, but I wasn’t prepared for the sheer power and presence of this cast. 

Tayla Prime as Heather Chandler was an absolute force of nature. She dominated the stage with so much authority that I found myself genuinely intimidated from the audience! I wouldn’t dare cross her Chandler—if I were in Westerberg High, I’d be running for the hills. It was a performance that oozed confidence and power, embodying the iconic ‘mythic b****’ perfectly.

Teagan Garvey as JD had some great moments, especially in the beginning where he played up JD’s charm to a T. His descent into madness was compelling, with Garvey really showcasing the complexity of the role. There were a few moments where his vocals fell a little flat, but overall, he was stellar and brought a lot to the table.

Then there’s Samantha Keough as Veronica—wow. I have never been so in awe of a voice. She didn’t just deliver; she owned the character, adding her unique vocal flair rather than just doing a by-the-numbers version of Veronica. I’d go so far as to say she’s one of the best Veronicas I’ve seen in Adelaide!

Caitlin Laventure as Heather Duke was a standout for me. Talk about a triple threat—the dancing, the singing, the acting, all flawlessly executed. I honestly can’t believe she isn’t already a staple in the professional scene. It was hard to keep my eyes off her whenever she was on stage.

Lily Horton-Stewarts Heather McNamara was another highlight. "Lifeboat" was a real emotional journey, and she took the audience right along with her. I could feel her anxiety bubbling under the surface, and when it broke, it was powerful. A beautifully crafted performance.

And then, Darcie Yelland as Martha—my heart. She brought so much warmth and life to Martha that you just wanted to give her a hug. By the time "Kindergarten Boyfriend" hit, I was a complete mess. It’s a challenging role to pull off, but Yelland absolutely nailed it.

I have to mention my favorite duo of the night: Zach Bartlett and Freddie Windle as Kurt and Ram. These two bounced off each other perfectly, delivering the humor and energy the roles require. They’re an iconic duo, and I truly hope to see them working together in the future!

Hannah Brown as Ms. Fleming brought so much life to the ditzy teacher role. You could really sense how much she cared about her News Crew… which made for a lot of laughs. I thoroughly enjoyed watching her performance!

The song of the night had to be ‘My Dead Gay Son’. The dads, Leo Sage and Hanno de Klerk, absolutely nailed it! The audience couldn’t stop clapping, and we just wanted more. Well done to both actors for a standout performance.

The ensemble deserves massive credit as well. The choreography and vocals were tight and well-constructed, with each piece fitting together like a perfectly synchronized puzzle. You could just feel the joy radiating off the entire cast, which gave the performance an extra spark of magic.

As for the set design, it was nothing short of spectacular. I loved the concept—especially how the brick wall split apart, and the two-story levels made the stage feel dynamic and immersive. I found myself wondering how long it took to build because it was just so beautifully crafted.

The lighting was also brilliantly executed. I loved how they played within the scheme. My favorite moment had to be during the bomb sequence, where the stage transformed into what looked like a disco ball for just a moment, symbolizing the explosion—it was an inventive and effective choice.

Sound was mostly on point. While there were a few minor issues with mics not being turned on in time or some effects coming in late, the sound mix overall was fantastic. Missing a couple of lines didn’t take away from how well everything sounded.

Big shoutout to the creative team. You’ve put on an amazing rendition of Heathers, and I’m excited to see what you all work on next. Overall, this cast for Heathers knocked it out of the park. From powerhouse performances to stellar ensemble work, this show was a treat from start to finish.

Total Drama Island Reboot Season Two: Episodes 2, 3 and 4

Okay wow, was not expecting three new episodes at once. Again I am baffled by both the local and international release schedules. But I'm continuing to watch and enjoy this reboot, here are my rough impressions of all the characters in all three episodes. Spoilers below the cut, obviously.

Chase is out second. Pretty obvious boot with how he behaved in the challenge, but that's just how TDI is sometimes. Glad he went early if I'm being honest since his whole subplot with Emma had run its course and there wasn't much more to get out of Chase. Speaking of which though...

Emma was out fourth, which kind of surprised me. I thought she might get an arc of finally forgetting about Chase and moving on, but then she goes and gets eliminated. Maybe they're saving an Emma arc for if gen 4 gets a third season? Who knows. A little disappointing but not a huge loss.

And between them, Millie is out third. Not surprising if I'm being honest; Millie had a chance to train up to be a stronger player with Priya's help, but neglected to actually study for it. And then in episode 2 when she tries to think creatively to help her team win, her lack of social skills is what did her in when she failed to consider how pissed her team would be for tricking Damien down the most dangerous slide. Her elimination feels like a natural consequence of her own actions and shortcomings instead of the contrived coincidences that Total Drama was guilty of many times in past seasons.

Then there's Damien himself. So far he still hasn't done a whole lot, but he's definitely shown to have become more self-confident with the way he called out Millie and how he was willing to brave that rickety bridge in episode 3. Time will tell if he makes it far.

Zee continues to be hilarious. Not really having much of an impact in terms of plotlines with other characters, but he always gets a laugh out of me. "Not thinking is my specialty!"

Gotta say, I thought Priya would have at least shown a little more of a reaction to her bestie being voted off. Still her plotline with Caleb is interesting. I can picture this leading to drama down the road where she realizes Caleb has just been trying to build an alliance rather than flirt with her. Or who knows, maybe Caleb will develop genuine feelings for her and it becomes a ship. Could go either way.

Speaking of Caleb, he represents the biggest difference between the writing of the reboot and previous seasons. Not once does the show portray him as antagonistic in trying to manipulate Priya into an alliance; he's just trying to form a strong partnership to make it farther in the game. Helps immensely that Caleb isn't actively cruel like Heather and Alejandro; he's genuinely chill despite his determination. Him literally carrying most of his team in episode 3 was awesome, not gonna lie.

Nichelle continues to dominate and be awesome in challenges. However I can't help but notice she's not really trying to get close to anyone, like Caleb is with Priya for example. I have a feeling that could come back to bite her if people vote her off for being a potential threat ala Caleb in season one.

I'm loving Axel so far. She's much better about being a team player but also hasn't lost her edge. I also like how we're getting depth to her, like her love of poetry. And then there's her romance with Ripper which I did not see coming. More on that later.

Holy shit, I was hoping for more of the MK/Julia alliance, but I wasn't expecting this much! I'm loving MK's unorthodox strategy of disguising as an intern to get inside information, it's very unique.

Oh and MKulia might become a thing. "Oh stop it, you'll make me blush!" "If MK's brain drove a cool car, I would totally date it." Watching these episodes I was like Wait are they gonna go there? Oh my god they might actually go there! And if they do, I am here for it!

Wayne and Raj continue to be very wholesome and hilarious! I love the dynamic they bring to Team Skunk Butt, wanting to play fair while Julia and MK cheat. And stuck in the middle...

is Bowie. I'm loving the drama of his character arc: he's still willing to pull the same underhanded tactics he used in season one and is all in on MK's strategy, but now has Wayne and especially Raj are acting as his morality pets. Some are predicting this could lead to a Rajbow break up, but I honestly don't think they'd do that. What I think will happen is Team Skunk Butt loses a challenge despite MKulia cheating again with Bowie's knowledge, Bowie feels terrible, and to make it up he offers to eliminate himself if one of the Hocky Bros is about to be voted off.

Last but not least, Ripper. Gonna be honest, he was my least favorite of gen 4 in season one; I didn't care for his focus on gross-out humor and he survived eliminations over characters I liked more. I didn't expect much from him going into season two so I was blindsided here. Not only is his gross out humor significantly toned down (but still present) but he proved to be quite endearing with his insecurity over his crush on Axel. I was especially stunned in episode four when he actually tried to connect with Axel's interest in poetry and actually wrote a poem for her, something I could never see season 1 Ripper doing. And Axel reciprocating with a kiss despite not seeming interested in him earlier? My haw hit the floor. Before I was hoping he'd be an early boot, but now I find myself actually wanting to see Ripper stick around and see where things go with him as a character and his potential relationship with Axel. I... actually like Ripper now, which is a sentence I never thought I'd say.

A few minor issues aside, I am loving this new season so far. I haven't genuinely enjoyed Total Drama since the original TDI 15 years ago.

okay this is such an embarrassing question…i mentioned this in another post the other day, but i’ve been so afraid to commit to long books lately. technically the longest book i read was the practice of creative writing by heather sellers which was the textbook for my creative writing class in spring at 544 pages. but recreationally it was the midnight lie by marie rutowski at 368 😭 and it certainly wasn’t an intellectually challenging book…seeking to remedy this in 2025 for real 🙏

blog post 1 | introduction

When I'm not writing or studying for school, knitting is my avenue of creativity and haven of relaxation.

Having recently exhausted my resources of online knitting patterns, I decided to embark on a new journey involving some more complicated techniques. With the start of the 2024 Olympics came the creation of a knit-a-long on Discord, hosted by one of my favorite podcasters, Florence Miller of Cambridge, England. The challenge was this: to hunt down a pattern for an Olympic jumper from the ones the Norwegian ski team used during one of the winter Olympics. Each participant would knit her sweater of choice while sharing progress photos, questions, and encouragement for each other in the group chat. It was understood, of course, that we would be watching the Olympics as we knitted these garments.

I bought the yarn about a month ago. Knitpicks Pallete in Midnight heather, a mixture of navy blue and deep green spun into one scrumptious and woolly fingering weight fiber blend.

The pattern I chose is called Peace jubileumgenser (from Turin 2006 Olympics). The gauge swatch I made is pictured below along with the little progress I have made on the border.

The group chat has been lovely to converse with so far. Many of them, including one of my local fiber friends, are experienced knitters and makers from around the world.

This journey will be exciting to share with you all while learning more about writing creative nonfiction. I hope to learn from the experiences and writing adventures of my CSU colleagues as well! Happy blogging everyone!

Notice how Island 2007 in general had a habit of reducing characters to background for several episodes at a time, especially in pre-merge?

I know someone rightfully brought up Beth and how her lack of relevance between Heather forming the alliance and Beth quitting the alliance kinda made her story hollow, but there's more than just that.

Noah doesn't even say any sarcastic quip or speak at all between episode 1 and his elimination episode (we don't even see how he jumped off the cliff in episode 2).

Justin says nothing after the first episode, though at least he get some relevant moments in most of his screentime in four out of his five episodes.

Katie and Sadie don't have any relevance after episode 2 outside of The Sucky Outdoors (the episode that Katie is eliminated in), Phobia Factor (the only time Sadie is relevant between Katie's elimination and her own), and Who Can You Trust (when Sadie is eliminated), which does make it harder to see differences with Katie and Sadie, and robs us of getting to see an arc of Sadie try to face the competition on her own without Katie.

Tyler's mostly fine, even if the reasoning for his elimination was super weird because of weird challenge rules.

Cody, Courtney, and Harold also do pretty solid making the most of their screentime as far as the pre-mergers go and Eva and Ezekiel at least do as much as you'd expect for the first two boots.

Even the mergers aren't safe from this (outside the final 4 + Izzy and Lindsay).

DJ pretty much faded into the background after episode 11 and doesn't do much of relevance with even his elimination episode suffering for this, with his elimination being for a pretty unfair reason (Getting scared in a challenge he didn't know existed).

Bridgette and Trent are more or less just satelites for Geoff and Gwen. Granted Bridgette was slightly better about it pre-merge with her friendship with Courtney getting some attention in a couple episodes (plus Sadie for episode 7 before Sadie went back to fading to the background), and episodes 13-15 tried to bring some relevance for her individually with her friendships with Gwen and Leshawna and conflicts with Heather and Eva, but outside that she wasn't exactly the most relevant. We don't even get to see the skills Bridgette has in sports that Duncan claimed she had in episode 17 (being a reason why the Guys alliances voted for her).

Geoff kinda hit a lull after Bridgette's elimination and didn't get relevant again until his elimination episode despite doing solid with his screentime otherwise.

Leshawna also hit a lull after episode 17 and didn't get much relevant roles anymore outside the final 6 episode (episode 18 even has her skip the challenge yet suffer no consequence for that). They didn't even bother giving her a speaking role in her own elimination episode.

Granted when they shine, they're good but it's just that the season doesn't always pull its weight for consistent character focus.

yeah Island is very unfocused but considering how at least some of these characters have more to do in following seasons, it doesn't bother me too much.

though Island could have definitely done with maybe another slight revision and perhaps more characters should have been utilized in not just it but the remaining Gen 1 trilogy as well.

I really wanna know what goes on in the minds of TD's creative team in basically every aspect of the show, ya know?
