Basically the reason he can’t see is ‘cause both of his eyes are swollen shut lol (I once had a bad black eye that I couldn’t open for like two days, Cody just has that but with both eyes rip)
How that happened I will leave to your imaginations, but I can confirm it was Eliana who did it
(A lot of yapping in the tags be warned lol)
#Eliana also never gave him ice for the swelling which is why it lasts so long#She isn’t that bad for the majority of the story#It’s written in a way that slowly introduces you to her abusive side#Like okay#the first time she hurts him (on screen) in the story#She just sorta hits him cause he’s annoying her#And it’s presented in a way that doesn’t seem bad#Like she’s not necessarily angry or anything and he isn’t upset by it#It just comes across as natural / playful#Not harmful#But it builds to a point where it isn’t justifiable anymore#Like it starts as “yeah okay she did hit him once but they were obviously just messing around that isn’t abuse”#To “okay she did yell and throw stuff at him while she was angry but she apologized a bunch after and she clearly didn’t mean it”#To “oh okay she’s really hurting him now and also making threats so he won’t try and get help yeah this is bad”#She doesn’t start out being abusive#That only happens once Cody can’t really get away from her#And Eliana also pulls a lot of the tricks you see a lot in female domestic abusers#Like the “If you call the police I’ll hurt myself and then I’ll tell them it was self-defence when they come”#because the majority of domestic abuse cases have violent men and female victims#And because Cody is both bigger and stronger than Eliana#Law enforcement would most likely believe that she hurt him in self-defence#He’s scared to fight back for this reason too (if he hurts her it’ll look bad for him and make him seem abusive)#(He also just doesn’t really want to hurt her because he’s actually a nice person but whatever lol)#he doesn’t think anybody would believe that he’s the victim#And it’s also like#Almost embarrassing for him to admit that he let his girlfriend beat him up#Anyways I’m yapping too much but that’s a little bit of insight into why it’s so hard for Cody to get out#It’s not just because Eliana says she’ll kill him if he breaks up with her#(Although that doesn’t help)

This became my warmup project for the remainder of RQTR 2023 lol#It definitely worked! All the way around! I got lots of panels done in short order and got my warmups in for the day#These are mostly drawn right on top of my original sketches - other than adding Betty's kerchief#I would've gone over her hair to make her more on-model but hrnnghhh hair fun to drawww#This is my happy medium compromise lol#Prismo was also a treat to work on ♪ He's vectors as you can probably tell :)#And I still looooove working with vectors ahhhhhh <3 <3 They're so fun to manipulate and move around#I can change his expressions so quickly! Very enjoyable to work with :D#Hehe ♪ He's also not confined to the panels the same way Betty is :)#Anyhow! I've heard there's heated debate on this topic but I Do Not Care, I formed a solid opinion the first time I saw one of his win screens
^ This guy HAS to be 15 ^
#my skin deep observation is that he looks a lot younger than the rest of the cast#his design uses a lot of rounded shapes aroud his face like how his glasses and how his hair sits#but he also reads as a lot smaller than the other fighters. they emphasise that a lot about him in my eyes#obviously the bed does a lot of work but even outside of it he feels like he's designed to draw attention to that#his outfit being so simple and the markings on his arms and legs kind of like. draw your eye to how small he looks if that makes sense?#there's no attempt to make him look bigger outside of the bed despite how puffed up he acts from what I've seen of him#it feels very intentional yk?#speaking of how he acts that is my crux. this guy acts 15 and I won't accept otherwise because OOF I acted that way as a know it all 15 y/o#I don't know- I just can't not read him as *young* from his design and the few lines I've heard from him#also you may notice I didn't use his name this whole post-#well thats because this ramble was prompted by another post I saw-#apparently there's a weirdo you can summon like beetlejuice if you mention him#and I'm not trying to get involved with that- I just wanted to ramble a little bit about how I see him so far#because I find him interesting! and a bit of that is definitely from how put together he's trying to present himself#but because of how he goes about it I can only read him as someone who is young and desperate to be taken seriously#anyway- I'm done talking about characters I don't know now!#sorry if I'm off base about any of this#yappin'
