It started because you were stressed one day. You don't even remember how long ago it was or what it was even about but you found your way into his office after something at work drove your battery to the absolute limit and just sat on the floor next to him.

He'd been speedrunning. Not that you remembered what, but it was what he'd been doing. So you sat on the floor next to him, back to the wall, knees curled up as you played on your phone.

A few weeks later you did the same thing.

And again.

Soon it became habit. Even beyond being stressed or anxious or even just tired, as soon as you were done for the day, if he was speedrunning, you were on the floor next to him.

Most of the time now you even stayed nearby until he started speedrunning and then you would creep into his office and find your spot on the floor.

Sometimes, Sly would join you, curling up in your lap. Sometimes you'd have food as you sat there. Most of the time, though, you were either watching him or scrolling on your phone.

It was part of your guys' normal now.

It was even at the point where if you weren't in there within the first few minutes of him running, he'd come find you or text you. He said it was because your presence made him better at runs.

And if you ever fell asleep sitting on the floor, he'd get off stream as quickly and quietly as possible before carrying you to bed and tucking you in.

Fic-to-Art #51: Gladiator's Twelfth Anniversary

Alas... it is the 26th. And as much as my life has become VERY BUSY, I did not forget the occasion. Unfortunately, I couldn't pull off my usual insanely ambitious projects because I'm working on a whole other stupidly ambitious project atm, one that might just hopefully get me going in my professional life! Thus, as much as I hate having to cut myself short for my beloved predilect fic, I've had to do so a little bit, BUT...

I still wanted to do something to commemorate the occasion, so I asked my patrons what they would like to see for this month. The winning option in the poll was for a new cover for the story, and while I really love the one we've got going right now, this one, while simpler maybe, is a very fulfilling piece due to how long it's taken me to EVER depict these two properly in this scenario. I don't know why I never felt like I'd pulled it off, but I did it this time!

Of course, to the eagle-eyed, there are a few things to unpack in this piece, suffice to say it is a hint of things to come, but I won't make any promises as to the absolute, spot-on accuracy of the scene this is referencing, since I haven't written it yet. But I will, oh, I will... it will hit me in the feels very much, but I will do it when the time comes.

Karasu and control

I've been thinking about this for a while, and this part of Hiori's novel (previous reblog) just brought it back to my attention.

Karasu really likes to control things. I'm not saying he's a control freak, of course, but he certainly likes to feel a safe base beneath his feet. You can see this in his play style (when he gathers all the available information and acts only after that; his choice of France) and his fear of water (if I remember correctly, the thing that scares him the most in it is the unknown). AND also from the whole Marisa (his childhood crush) story (assuming it's true lol) - he's not the type to rush into anything: neither in relationships nor hobbies. I don't think he would have chosen to join Blue Lock if he wasn't really sure in his abilities. He's really mature about things like that.

I was thinking in the context of him probably going to university (data analysis please!) in addition to his sports career, since he seems like a really rational guy when it comes to serious stuff? He gives Hiori some great advice about not wasting his time on something he doesn't like, Ego mentions that his greatest skill is his analytical ability - he never acts because-he-just-feels-it, he was the one who argued with the referee in the U-20 game about Rin's injury (so responsible!), and generally acts very logically (except for the whole Hiori and his legs theme lol). I don't think he would be able to fully relate on the sport, he certainly knows about the statistics of failures and broken careers.

He loves football, of course, but he is really right about "people who only play football can't become great players". But that's more because for Karasu, it's unrealistic to be stable (which is sometimes a deciding point in the game) when your whole life depends on it. When everything relies on you winning. Karasu really has a glimpse of Snuffy's philosophy in that, and it's great to see that in the character: Failing at one thing doesn't say anything about you. And you should always be more than one thing to have the right mental balance.

That's what makes him so strong - not that he'll never fail. Of course one day he will.

But rather the knowledge that he has done everything to be stable in case of failure; that any possible failure will not ruin his life. 

Because he has made sure that his back is covered.
