i watched the Old Guard yesterday bc I was interested (it was very good) and I wanted to give Hob Gadling, my blorbo, some immortal friends in my head and after wathing a couple of times and puttering about the fandom I came to the conclusion that Hob would make the Guards uncomfortable.
Not least bc his circumstances are different in the ways that matter (its will to live per century, and he can die whenever he'd like) but bc Hob doesnt have the sense if martyrdom the rest of them do. They never chose their immortality; they do the best they can with it.
Hob DID choose his immortality. He CONTINUES to choose it. He RELISHES in it.
Already that marks him as different, by core of faith and belief. Men like Hob are dangerous; bc people who deeply enjoy life, enjoy immortality on the scale he does without much regard for what it means are the kind of people who would kill for it. Whatever it takes. He can and will and HAS left things and people behind for the sake of it. If it took killing a man once a century he would have done it. Hes done worse. Theres always someone out there who deserves to die, by mercy of themself or others.
Hob is CONSTANTLY compared to the Corinthian by the sheer apetite for life; his own and others.
Thats bound to make the Guards uncomfortable. It would probably explain how Andy would prefer not to have him in her ranks. Hes too dangerous, and hes not a good person. His motivations are not something she understands, and definitely not something she trusts.
Theres a fanfic premise in there somewhere

They had a bit of a chance encounter on a day where Blueblood was dealing with something that was very difficult and was so caught up in his emotions he didn’t even care that he was in the garden getting grass stans on his coat and Ditzy, with her natural impulse to cheer ponies up, didn’t even notice or care that she was flying into the palace gardens when she saw someone sat in the rain.
At first he was definitely going to call the castle guards to come apprehend this strange filly with the odd eyes who was intruding when this was the last moment he’d want to entertain any desperate debutantes, however she surprised him by not fawning or anything, not even caring about his status, just putting one of her fluffy wings up and asking if he needed somepony to lend an ear.
“Don’t let my eyes fool you, my ears work just fine!”
She was incredibly disarming and while he didn’t reveal everything about why he was upset, he found himself talking about his feelings to her. And she made such cheerful remarks, and was very comforting. In the end, he felt better and she came to check on him the next day, even sharing a blueberry muffin with him. He remarked that he’d never seen her around before, and that he wouldn’t mind terribly seeing her more often.
The rest, as they say, is history.

Consider:
Tikki and her miraculous giving Marinette freakishly good luck and Marinette absolutely hating it.
Plagg and his miraculous giving Adrien absolute shit luck and Adrien loving it.
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
Everything always works out for Marinette. It's honestly ridiculous. And while it was nice at first, she sorta hates it now. (See examples here)
And Adrien, oh, everything goes wrong for him in the best ways possible.
Adrien has a photoshoot with Lila? He's stuck in traffic and can't make it in time, or it starts raining on them, and they have to pack up early.
Unwanted Stuffy Gala that Gabriel insists Adrien must go to? He has to leave early because someone spills wine over his bland all-white outfit his father picked out.
Gabriel wants Adrien home early? What a shame, his phone got thrown off the Couffaines House-Boat, not even 30 minutes ago.
Adrien favorite part of his bad luck, though, is when it spreads to the people he doesn't like. He'll never forget the look on Lilas face when she tried to dump an entire platter of food on Marinette, only to slip and dump it over herself instead.

Keep scrolling if you blame Spider
Spider, who is literally still a child by human standards.
Spider, who never gave away Jake's or the Omatikaya's location.
Spider, who cares about the Sullys' safety over his own.
Spider, who didn't want any blood on his hands or a guilty conscience if he left someone to die.
Spider, who just didn't want anyone else to get hurt.
Spider, who never betrayed the Na'vi (unlike Jake but hey, who's counting that, right?)
Spider, who had to fend for himself to survive the toughest events because he didn't have an adult who would tear the world apart for him like the Sully children do.
Spider, who loves Pandora and Eywa.
Spider, who just wanted to be one of Her children because he never knew what it was like for a mother to love him.
Spider, who probably understands Eywa's whole "balance of life" meaning more than others.
Spider, who already lost Neteyam but he couldn't afford to lose anyone else in his life, no matter how terrible they are as a person.
Spider, who helped Jake save Kiri and Tuk when everyone else was still too shocked to move.
Spider, who chose mercy over violence/death.
Spider, who did what he could to survive (I'd like to see how YOU would react under such pressure. It all seems obvious and easy watching from the other side of the screen, right?)
Spider, who was likely being misled, brainwashed, and gaslit by the Recoms.
Spider, who is clearly a victim but hey, let's blame him for simply being a decent human being, right?
Spider, who likely thought he owed Quaritch after he saved him from being tortured.
Spider, who likely thought he owed Quaritch for giving him life.
Spider, who just wanted a father who was proud of him.
Spider, who has been clearly neglected by the heroes (Jake and Neytiri) but doesn't openly or verbally blame them.
Spider, who doesn't purposely threaten children's lives like Quaritch and Neytiri do.
Spider, who just wanted to be one of the People.
Spider, who wouldn't have made those difficult choices had he been properly loved and raised.
Spider, who is as easy to blame as Lo'ak for endangering the people they love (but again, no one's counting, right?)
Spider, who is clearly not a villain, just misunderstood.
Spider, who wasn't raised by the village but didn't burn it down to feel its warmth because he's not petty, not vindictive, not evil, and not a killer.
Spider, who is. A. Child.

saw a post by @/cariocake saying smth along the lines of "i hope Bucky's adventuring party is patient with him"
and like!! fuckin please,,,
i hope Bucky's party sees him for the kid he really is
devout (ish?) follower of Helio, yes. crossing a line with the whole "conversion" talk, definitely.
but up to his neck in a religion cult that prioritizes lofty ideals over the individual, religious trauma he's yet to unpack, and experiencing a community completely different from the one he grew up with for the very first time (and supposedly "straying" according to one buddy dawn)
I hope they can see Bucky as the Bad Kids saw Kristen in freshman year. Fucked up, annoying, but with a good heart. And I hope that his party members help him overcome the parts of his childhood that he may discover he doesn't like. You can't pick your family, but you can pick your friends.

very interested in your hc about cats named after the big clans having bad luck 👀
so-! the HC is that some ThunderClan warriors believe that a cats name will influence something about their life- Swiftkit will be fast, Tanglekit will always have a messy pelt, Snowkit will never feel the cold, but some say Snowkit will always be cold, there's a lot of debate and interpretation to it. The 'Ancient names' are Leopard- Lion- and Tiger-, and these names carry great significance and, some say, mystical powers. If a kit is on it's deathbed, in the first few days of life, the mother may use one of these names in the believe the name carries the spirits of the ancient Clans, who will revive her kit. However, these names come with a great risk. Whether it's the ancient spirits coming back to collect, or the ancient power being too much for a small wildcat to handle, driving them mad, each Ancient named kit will have a costly downfall.
Does the name actually cause it? Who knows. Elders will shake their head and say that Tigerstar went mad with 'too much power inside him', it was the Ancient curse that got him, but other cats will argue that the curse is bullshit- Lionheart was only killed by ShadowClan warriors, he had no 'grand downfall', even if he wasn't able to become ThunderClan leader. It depends on whether you believe.

Iwtv s2 ep2 spoilers
My thing I'm wondering is that in the promos/trailers claudia screams that Louis "picked another one over me" but in this episode she's encouraging louis to live outside of her and pursue a romance with Armand. I wonder what's going to change in the next few episodes.

another thing with denying jaime agency is that a lot of his character is initially constructed around what his physical power means when it comes to choices that he makes. physical strength and combat prowess, violence, is a specific form of power that he has over others and can choose to extend to other parties. it is an integral aspect of every power dynamic, be it with his king, his sister, the rest of society etc. the knight is also an examination of power and responsibility. that is why their oaths are constructed around protecting the weak. it is what’s so interesting with the kingsguard too, especially aerys’s. they are the most skilled in combat and physically powerful people in the room. they had a form of power to act and prevent what aerys kept doing. and they are on a leash through oaths, law, order, obeying authority, and a status quo, a different kind of power that functions to give the man with a crown, in this case a tyrant, absolute power. you are sworn to obey, not to judge. you have to abide by your role. that is also what makes him eventually killing aerys and breaking these oaths so transgressive and threatening to the westerosi paradigm. his motivations and the circumstances aside, jaime in specific killing his king as a member of his elite guard undermined westerosi order and framed power as something that resided with the man with the sword and not with the man with the crown or even the lords with bannermen and armies who won the war that they started. it breaks these constructs apart with the precedent it sets. and on top of that, he gets away with it because of his status and relationship to tywin, which is also a scary precedent in the eyes of many. it is huge when it comes to westerosi order and class stratification, but it is also threatening in general because, yes, it does make him a loose cannon in the eyes of other people. and yeah he stagnates and falls into cynicism and begins to reject ethics and law in a dangerous way and ends up abusing that physical power and causes real harm to people who do not deserve it. he does embody a dangerous kind of anarchy that is the product of the flawed and dysfunctional social order that he experienced with a front row seat with the absurdly cruel tyrant that was systematically enabled. everything was reframed in his head. if there is no justice and order you can have faith in, who cares? he doesn’t fear death, and that is combined with the belief he can cut through anything now, he has the power to do so. be it a king, a lord, or virtually any power over him when it comes down to it. how much can a crown be worth…? he even argues to brienne that robert tearing the realm apart with his war is worse in a pragmatic sense. he rejects the existing laws, ethics, and moral constructs of his society that have a monopoly on violence because he is disillusioned with them, and he operates solely by his twisted reconstruction of morality (also obviously affected by his trauma) that atp primarily revolves around love for his family, especially cersei. he chooses to become the sword of his loved one, having lost faith in the purity of everything other than this delusional idealized relationship that is the only thing that is sacred that remains to him. and ofc all of this is another layer that makes george stripping him of this particular power through his maiming so functional in causing crisis.

Everytime I read Nevermore I keep thinking of how to Annabel Lee absolutely everyone but her and Lenore are corpses. She's interacting with people she considers fully dead already whilst Lenore deeply cares about everyone's lives. And neither of them is truly correct! They're neither dead nor alive, and the stated rules are that only one person will live again. They operate under different beliefs about circumventing the game but so far neither of them has proof that it's possible.

Queen of Tears is so interesting cause i've never dealt with two really complex leads like this in romcom (i mean it is funny)
i've said it before but Haein and Hyunwoo know each other very well but don't know each other at all (i don't know if i've ever seen communication issues this bad).
Losing the baby clearly drove them apart. She blamed herself and put up high walls. He wears his heart on his sleeve and cried over it. We can argue that he should've comforted her in that moment but at the same time she clearly knew he was upset so why didn't she go to him? Haein thought she had no right to grieve and consequently Hyunwoo thought she didn't grieve at all. The moment where they needed each other more than ever- the moment they should've been together they both fucked up.
The core of the issue is that they can't read each other's mind, this is literally said at the beginning of 6- they love each other dearly but also tripping over each in the process.
Outside of Hyunwoo jumping up and down at her diagnosis and faking his way into her will (which was painfully cruel and soooo funny) It's very clear that this is a two person game. Although I always interpreted Hyunwoo's joy as the same as the mistress of a wealthy man who is just waiting for him to die so she can get the money, (it's mean but most times the master either sucks or he's naive as hell and she has no reason to mourn) and at that point Hyunwoo's in the same situation.
Why didn't Haein defend him in front of her relatives? Why scold him publicly in front of the employees? She does a lot of things behind the scenes but good intentions can only go so far if object of those affections is ignorant of the full story. The same thing happens in episode 6, she is trying to protect Hyunwoo from her family but without telling him so he is ignorant of the big picture. Why wasn't Hyunwoo honest with his feelings? Why is he always assuming the worst when she never explicitly says something? We see he tries to talk to her (it fails) but his fear of upsetting her leads him to do otherwise cruel things to keep her happy.
Which is also why the divorce paper is so interesting. That paper was one of the best things he’s done. He was completely justified in writing that. It breaks Haein's heart but severing ties like that was way healthier than him forcing himself to stay in this marriage and pamper her with fake love.
One thing I will admire this piece for is the role reversal, like i'm seeing so many typical fl tropes on Hyunwoo and ml tropes on Haein. You ever read one those isekai or time reverse manwha's were the fl goes back in time to get a divorce but falls in love with her partner again? yeah this is the same exact thing.
