Ship Sunday: Tenou Haruka/Kaiou Michiru

This Ship Sunday, we’re highlighting Tenou Haruka/Kaiou Michiru, the canon lesbian pairing from the Sailor Moon franchise. Haruka and Michiru first appeared as an established couple in the main media storylines and stayed together throughout each series. As one of the few canonical lesbian relationships in a popular series from the 1990s, HaruMichi has remained a staple for yuri fans around the world.

HaruMichi’s relationship was infamously censored in the North American English dub of the anime, where they are referred to as cousins instead of lovers. Nowadays, many fans have embraced the irony of the failed censorship and laughed about it.

Haruka Tenou/Sailor Uranus x Michiru Kaiou/Sailor Neptune | HaruMichi!

Happy Pride Month everybody, I decided to “celebrate” by making a sort of custom Pride flag for my favorite lesbians, Sailors Uranus and Neptune, civilian names Haruka and Michiru, from Sailor Moon.

I used the lesbian flag because duh, and also the bigender flag because there’s a couple of lines in the manga that imply that Uranus/Haruka is bigender. The symbols on each side are the planetary symbols for Uranus (yellow) and Neptune (pale turquoise).

Also, before anybody asks why Neptune is on the bigender side instead of Uranus, it’s because I thought the colors worked better like that, that’s literally it.

Amazing news I just found out! The wonderful Three Lights, a repository for high quality Sailor Moon scans, has HQ scans of the ultra-rare calendar that Naoko Takeuchi and her husband Yoshihiro Togashi (creator of Hunter x Hunter among other series) made in 1999 to commemorate their wedding.

This is such a blessing to both fandoms!

Heavenly Pearl's Fic Review 2023 - Brushwork

The fourth fic I posted this year was Brushwork, written for the Sailor Moon Quickies event.

Summary: After modeling for Michiru’s latest masterpiece, Haruka is inspired to do a little “painting” of her own.

Thoughts: I'm actually fairly happy with how this fic turned out (and glad that we didn't have to stick to a thousand word limit this time!). Haruka's and Michiru's flirtatious dialogue was really fun to write! It was also the first time I posted a sex scene solely between two women. Something a little out of my wheelhouse, but I think I did a decent job with it. I like to think using one of Michiru's paintbrushes as a makeshift toy was pretty clever! Maybe that's just me, though…
