Summary: going into the new year with bf Cliff.

A/n: I had no idea who to write for. But Cliff's been on my mind all day because I dressed like him to Ikea, and now he's all over my Tumblr. So it's decided. To new a new, prosperous year for everyone 🥂🎆

The night had started off dreary for Y/N. For starters, she hadn't scrounged enough money together to make it to her family for New Years, and she'd already missed Christmas with them. Then, weather misfortunes left everybody in town unable to shoot their specially launched fireworks. And then finally, her friends all did a rain check when it came to pitching to the small function she'd planned for them.

Y/N stared at her empty mug, at the verge of tears, when a knock sounded at her door. Her heart leaped with newfound hope. Perhaps, even if it was just a maintenance person or what the heck ever, she could woon them to get her out somewhere. Quickly she ran to the door, swinging it open. To her utter surprise, it was her boyfriend Cliff and his bandmates from across the states.

Y/N gasped, lunging herself into his arms. Cliff chuckled lowly, draping his long, lanky arms around her. Y/N tightened her grip, almost crushing him breathless as she hugged him. Cliff, despite his friends watching, dropped his chin to rest atop her head as his eyes fluttered shut. Finally, the two pulled apart.

"Come in! Oh, hi guys! It's so, so great to see you! I was about to hit a bar or something. Didn't want to go into the new year by myself."

"We'd still be keen on that."

"Can we just use your bathroom?"

"Long trip."

The guys chimed as they walked in.

"Let's have some doughnuts first, I mean I bought them. Oh and candles! You know what lets take them with. If we can't have fireworks we should at least have candle lit doughnuts in a bar."

"3... 2... 1..."

The drunk, sober, single, taken... all kinds of people counted down. Y/N pulled Cliff in by the collar of his denim jacket, leaning up to press her lips against his as they entered the new year. Cliff was certain the fireworks in his stomach erupted greater than those in the sky would've as she kissed him.

"Happy new year baby."

She smiled as they pulled away.

"Happy new year my girl."

Cliff grinned back at her. My girl. A name he found stupid when others used, by the only title fitting to address his Y/N.

"I have a surprise for ya."

"Bigger than you appearing from across the country!?"

He nodded, tugging her hand as he nodded towards the exit. Cliff lead her through the crowd, and the wet and busy streets.

"Cliff, my hair! Where are we going?"

"Bear with me babe!"

He called over the music and cheers, gripping onto her hand. Finally, the found themselves in an abandoned warehouse.

"Baby, what on earth are we doing here?"

Y/N panted as she wiped the rain from her eyes, squinting in the dark.

"Are you about to disect me?"

"Maybe,"

He chuckled, reaching for his lighter. Y/N's eyes lit up as Cliff lit a few Black Widow fireworks up (idc overseas, but in my country, they're small and loud). Y/N squeezed him in a hug as they watched the small fireworks explode, both cringing at the loud echoing sound in the empty shed.

"Thank you, thank you so much. You have no idea what this means to me."

Y/N looked up at him, eyes twinkling. Cliff had never seen a more beautiful sight.

"I love you."

She was the first to say it. And she meant it. Cliff smiled, a warm and genuine smile. His lighter got tucked into his pocket as his hands reached out, cupping her face. He cradled her face in his large hands as her hands rested atop his. He leaned down, connecting their lips. Their eyes fluttered shut as they shared their 2nd, or 1st and a half kiss of the year.

"Happy new year."

They said simultaneously.

I'm wishing everyone a successful 2024 filled with health, love and happiness!

You know, I've really come to love this little community of taekookers here on tumblr. It's our own safe space away from the majority of the toxicity and negativity that's such a big part of the fandom.

I love hearing everyone's mature and well thought out responses. I love that there's no unnecessary hate on any of the members. I love that we can be delusional, but also keep it rational. I love how we can all accept that we have differing opinions. I love that we can laugh about the ridiculous antics of other taekookers and not take things too seriously.

We've had so much going on with taekook this year, which has been amazing, but a big part of what has made this year great is also the time I've spent on here with you guys. I hope everyone sticks around while taekook are gone. Here's to another year of appreciating taekook's beautiful relationship, but also to appreciating BTS and all of the members. Jin and Hobi are back this year, and I can't wait! I hope that they're all doing well right now, and they all get back safely in 2025. It won't be the same until we have all seven of them with us again 💜💜💜

"Out, get out!" Cahir shouts, but even his loud commander voice is drowned out in the deafening noise of the explosions. He grabs Milva, who is standing next to him paralysed with shock, and drags her toward where he believes the door must be. But darn, with black smoke everywhere, he can hardly see a thing. His eyes begin to water and his lungs start to burn. A rocket flies right by his face, grazing his cheek with its fiery tail. Next to him Milva squeals with pain as a firecracker has found its way up inside one of her trouser legs. Damn it, they have to get out of this inferno, or they'll get roasted alive. Where is that fucking bloody door?

Suddenly he runs into someone. Geralt. He knows the way. A mere minute later, they are outside and, in a safe distance from the burning barn, they fall onto their knees into the snow, breathing in the crisp December air. After Cahir has taken several deep gulps and does not feel lightheaded from lack of oxygen anymore, he looks around. Geralt is standing next to Milva who is lying in the snow near by holding her leg and whimpering pitifully. Angoulême is sitting beside Regis who is holding her in his arms trying to calm her down. Cahir cannot really hear what he is saying though because of the booming sounds of exploding firecrackers that are still coming from the barn, and for the ringing in his ears. After this all-too-close encounter with the explosives, the companions will probably suffer from tinnitus for a few days, he suspects. Fringilla has given up all her mostly futile efforts of containing the fiery explosions. Wiping her bleeding nose, she hunkers down beside Milva to have a look at her leg. Everybody is here, in safety, except— Shit, where the hell is Jaskier? He isn't still inside this inferno of fire and explosions? Damn it!

Happy New Year everybody, I hope 2023 is treating you well so far-and I’m sending you all as many good vibes as I can in hopes that it continues to be a good year for us all as it progresses! 🥳

If you’ve been following me for the past handful of years, you may have noticed that I started-and have continued-to draw/update/revamp an illustration I did of a fireworks themed character I created in 2021 to celebrate the beginning of the New year; this has now become a little tradition that I like to keep going to ring in the New Year each time!

I’ve grown attached to this particular character and it brings me a lot of joy to revisit them each year and give them a redesign based on my current design sensibilities/techniques-we all know how much I love a character/costume redesign-plus, since I’m redoing the same illustration each time, it also provides a nice benchmark I can look back on to see how my style has changed/improved over the course of the year as well! (I’ve provided the previous years iterations of this illustration for y’all to look at as well to see how my work has changed!)

As it is the New Year, I know a lot of people are starting on their New Years resolutions; have y’all picked anything in particular to work on/towards this year? Have you already started? Let me know! For me, I really want to start utilizing my Patreon and Ko-fi more, as well as create more content for my shop, and branch out more into streaming and posting on YouTube!

New Year's Mochitsuki

"Yu Yu Hakusho 100% Maji Battle" New Year Event

This event was first held in the New Year of 2021.

Around the start of the New Year, many Japanese households will take part in the annual tradition of mochitsuki, the pounding of rice to make mochi (rice cake). The tradition of mochitsuki consists in pounding the rice grains, placed in a big mortar, with a wooden mallet. Once the rice grains are no longer visible and the dough has reached the right level of consistency, the mochi is ready to be shaped. There are also competitions to see who can pound the rice fastest and hardest.

In this story, Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei and Kurama visit Master Genkai on New Year. Grandma is playing a game, but she can't defeat a certain boss. Yusuke tries to play in her place, but he's also having trouble beating them in the rice pounding level.

Translation:

"New Year's Mochi Pounding"

Yusuke: Ooi, baa-san! We came to eat the zouni soup!

T/N: Zouni is a Japanese soup containing mochi rice cakes, a New Year tradition.

Yusuke: ...No reply. Besides, what's this shout?

Yusuke: Oooooi … hey, what are you doing here?

Genkai: Can't you even say a single greeting, jeez. Happy New Year, I guess.

Kurama: She's right, Yusuke. Happy New Year!

Hiei: ...Humpf

Kuwabara: Oh, baa-san. Have a great year! We thought we heard strange voices, but it's the game.

Genkai: It's like a New Year's action game. I've just suffered a series of consecutive defeats to the boss, and reached an impasse​.

Yusuke: Leave the action to me! I'll beat baa-san's record in a heartbeat!

Genkai: You don't say! Then, please play it in my place.

[Yusuke plays the game...]

Yusuke: I, I lost again ... What's going on at the mochitsuki level...!?

Kuwabara: To defeat the Boss Brothers, you have to quickly pound 100 times per second, and raise the power gauge to 100% out of 100%.

Yusuke: That seems impossible … I mean, I feel like this reminds me of something, and I'm getting distracted…

T/N: Certain brothers as the boss in a game, 100% of 100% … I wonder what is bothering Yusuke (lol).

Kuwabara: What is it, an excuse for losing? Shall Kuwabara-sama change this situation?

Yusuke: Shut up! I'm gonna play until I win!

Genkai: Things are lively early in the New Year! Here, some zouni.

Kurama: Thank you very much. Shall we warm up Yusuke and the others' portions later?

Hiei: …If they don't want it, I'll eat theirs too.

T/N: In the 2020 New Year event, Hiei didn't want to have any mochi, and now he wants to eat Yusuke and Kuwabara's share. I guess he's enjoying the food of the Human World. ^^

Kurama: Oh, be careful not to eat too much.

Yusuke: Damn it!!! Mochitsu Brothers, I'll beat you!!!

........ (sound of rice being squashed)

???: Let's go, big brother...!

???: Come on, younger brother…!

Younger Toguro: This year will be the year for us brothers to thrive!

I guess even Yusuke is no match for Full Power Toguro in the Mochitsuki Tournament. It's hilarious that Elder Toguro transformed into a mochitsuki's mallet. Hiei's "humpf" greeting instead of "Happy New Year" is a classic.

Yusuke's voice actor Nozomu Sasaki also recorded Yusuke wishing Happy New Year.

"Happy New Year! Let's keep a good relationship this year!"

"Let's keep a good relationship this year" (kotoshi mo ichi-nen yoroshiku) is a very typical japanese New Year Greeting.
