A leader of the Texas Republican Party hopped on Facebook in May to post about a “mask burning” party 900 miles away in Cincinnati.

“I wished I lived in the area!” wrote H Scott Apley.

The month before, Apley responded to what Baltimore’s former health commissioner was heralding as “great news” — clinical trials showed the Pfizer vaccine was effective at fighting the coronavirus, including one of the recent variants, for at least six months.

“You are an absolute enemy of a free people,” he wrote in a Twitter reply.

And on Friday, the 45-year-old Dickinson City Council member republished a Facebook post implying that vaccines don’t work.

Two days later, Apley was admitted to a Galveston hospital with “pneumonia-like symptoms” and tested positive for coronavirus, according to an online fundraising campaign. He was sedated and put on a ventilator.

On Wednesday, he died, members of his county’s party announced on social media.

Patrick McGinnis, chairman of the Galveston County Republican Party, said in a statement that Apley’s death was a “tragedy … magnified by his youth, his young family especially his very young son.”

Apley’s wife and their son also tested positive for the virus. Neither had been hospitalized when Apley first went into the emergency room, according to the GoFundMe page.

In a little more than a day, the fundraising effort — which has since been updated to cover Apley’s funeral costs — raised more than $28,000 from over 300 donors. The man running the Apleys’ GoFundMe page and the Galveston County Republican Party didn’t respond to emails from The Washington Post late Wednesday.

Apley was elected to the Dickinson City Council in November after a failed campaign in 2019. He was also serving his first term on the Texas GOP’s State Republican Executive Committee.

McGinnis, who did not mention that Apley died of coronavirus, remembered his colleague as “an advocate for liberty, limited government and the highest ideal of American Exceptionalism.”

Texas GOP Chairman Matt Rinaldi noted in a separate statement that Apley had “a long history of conservative political activism.”

On social media, Apley criticized the idea of businesses using vaccine passports. Supporters of such passports “are the same ones who were happy to see you shut down for a year because they were scared to leave their homes,” a man said on Facebook.

Apley piggybacked: “100 [percent] … right here!!”

When officials at the NRG Park Community Vaccination Center in Houston started offering goodies like NFL and Disney on Ice tickets to coax people into getting vaccinated, Apley posted a short, clear assessment to Facebook: “Disgusting.”

Apley is one of a growing number of highly publicized cases of people getting seriously ill or dying after railing against masks, bashing vaccines, playing down the gravity of the pandemic or merely being vaccine-hesitant.

Last month, a conservative talk show host in Tennessee went to the emergency room after a coronavirus infection gave him pneumonia, The Post reported. Before getting sick, Phil Valentine had decided not to get vaccinated and used his radio show to frequently make fun of efforts to get more people inoculated.

When he got sick, the radio host changed his mind, according to his brother, who said Valentine will use his show as a pro-vaccine platform when he gets back on air.

On Tuesday, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said he regretted signing a bill into law in April that banned local officials from imposing mask mandates. He has called for a special session to reevaluate the ban as new coronavirus infections surge across the state once more.

A doctor in Alabama, which has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country, last month wrote a detailed Facebook post about how a lot of “young healthy people” were being admitted to the hospital “with very serious” covid infections.

“One of the last things they do before they’re intubated is beg me for the vaccine,” Brytney Cobia wrote. “I hold their hand and tell them that I’m sorry, but it’s too late.”

[btvs] i still want to be your girl (35,165 words) straight up i am so proud of this fic! s7 au: jenny was chased out of town by angelus. giles does not know this. jenny has been working with angel in la, but left with faith to try and help defeat the first. giles is not the guy she remembers. (but jenny’s not exactly the lady giles remembers, either. so maybe things might work out.)

[btvs/leverage crossover] what’s in a name (4,421 words) sophie’s & jenny’s relationship to their names & identities always so totally fascinated me! this fic was my way of exploring that. (also i got to give giles and jenny a toddler. that was fun too.)

[btvs comics] live a little (6,700 words) i had so much fun coming up with a backstory for giles and jenny in the comics that i am kinda tempted to eventually try and do it again. this one was fun to write, tho.

[btvs] kind of like hydrogen peroxide (7,501 words) THIS was FUN. ripper au, but it explores both jenny’s longing for High School Normalcy AND ripper’s fucked-up relationship to magic. also senior prom is a thing.

[btvs] mending fences (6,093 words) sequel to the aforementioned epistolary fic! lots of first-person self-loathing from giles, but also a LOT of love for jenny and his kids. also the man really truly needs to stop repressing.

[btvs] her father’s daughter (1,982 words) 2020 will bring us another chapter of this fic i swear to GOD. literally there’s only one chapter up so i cannot even TALK about my plans for it but uhhh if you want giles and jenny and their three daughters pls feel free to go to that prologue and check it out.

[miss fisher’s murder mysteries] unbearable (5,670 words) i need to write more mfmm in 2020 but the amount of good fic out there is deeply intimidating/delightful. this one was my little “what if it was phryne who thought jack was dead” and tbqh i had a lot of fun with it? bc pining phryne (who makes brief but extremely poignant appearances throughout the series) is an awkwardly, heart-meltingly sincere lady.

[ace attorney] man’s duty to society (544 words) wrote this as my first foray into aa fic while getting emo about miles edgeworth. would absolutely still die for that man.

[ace attorney] fancy running into you (5,887 words) lots of schmoopy narumitsu fluff! gregory edgeworth is alive! miles is trauma-free! phoenix is an artist! just!!! goodness!!!!!!!

What was the best thing about 2019? there were almost too many good things to COUNT, but i think all of them were made possible by me working extremely hard to get myself the FUCK out of my abusive parents’ house and into my first choice college!! i’m thriving, y’all.

What was the worst thing about 2019? realizing that both of my parents are fundamentally terrible people. that part kinda sucked.

Any last thoughts for 2019? i finally understand what it’s like to fall asleep feeling safe, and to notice the way the leaves change color, and to get excited about self-indulgent things like food and cuddly stuffed animals and my own fic and art. 2019 brought a lot of happiness into my life, and oh yeah also i’m in love! lots of cool stuff going on.

An Angel, and Lucifer’s Kid? Queer-Coding and Dean’s “Found Family” in 14x13 Lebanon

It’s time for some unashamed, LGBTQ subtext-reading Supernatural meta to celebrate Valentine’s Day!

This conversation? Pings, hard, for LGBTQ folk....

Here is Ellen’s character on her ground-breaking sitcom, coming out to her parents in 1994 ... (Ellen 4x4 Hello Mudder, Hello Fadder):

ELLEN: “Please understand, that for the first time, I am really, really, happy.”

ELLEN’S DAD: “Oh, so now you’re saying you had a lousy childhood? Your brother Stevie had exactly the same childhood and he turned out perfectly normal” [my italics].

There’s that word.... normal.

Do you remember the title of Larry Kramer’s 1985 play about the HIV/ AIDS crisis in New York (later a 2014 TV drama starring Mark Ruffallo and Matt Bomer)?

The American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual removed homosexuality from its list of “mental disorders” in 1974 (after concerted activist efforts). Before that, homosexuality was officially classified as a psychological “abnormality”.

So that word “normal” (that refrain, “Why can’t you be normal? I want a normal life for you, a normal family...”) resonates in LGBTQ history.

And when Dean has the above one-on-one conversation with his father, the ghost of John Winchester, pulled-out-of-time, there’s a resonance there (should you choose to accept it).

Notice it’s Dean who has this particular conversation with John, not Sam.

And of course, John is thinking about a heterosexual family, marriage to a woman and kids, like the family he had with Mary, way back when. That’s the default assumption for a guy like John, right?

So when Dean answers, “I have a family,” the narrative (given John means a wife and kids - he already knows Dean has his brother) substitutes Castiel and Jack into those negative spaces.

Here they are, Dean’s brother, Dean’s angel and their adopted kid, taking care of said kid at the hospital (as families do) (14x07 Unhuman Nature)

“Found families” which don’t look nuclear and hetero-normative (a significant element of the awkward hospital check-in scene in Unhuman Nature) have been, and continue to be, a significant feature of LGBTQ life, because despite advances in rights and societal acceptance (in the US, where SPN is set) many continue to be rejected by their birth families:

Now, let’s take a very close look at the moment John arrives at the Bunker in 14x13 Lebanon, with help from the Superwiki transcript:

DEAN: “So, what do I…” SAM: “I don’t know. I-I guess you – you hold the pearl and – and concentrate on what your heart desires.” DEAN: “Michael outta my head. Got it.”

And then the lights go to red emergency and the looming ghost of John Winchester appears, punching both his boys to the floor and pointing a gun at them....

Do you see it? Do you see the transition?

Michael out of Dean’s friggin’ head IS (metaphorically) the ghost of John Winchester (who arrives to red warning lights, with violence and control) aka Dean’s self-repression. So when Dean is able to tell his father, who raised him to be a “good little soldier”, to shoulder parental responsibility for Sammy, to perform a certain kind of masculinity (muscle cars, classic rock, no chick-flick moments) aka to tell his own internal voice of self-repression, proudly that he has a(n unconventional) family - consisting of his brother (whom he “practically raised”) his angel, and their adopted Nephilim son - well, we can argue that frames Dean (subtextually) as taking a step towards owning his queerness. Particularly as he later tells his brother, “I’m good with who I am.”

If you think about those “angel fall” spell ingredients, they’ve (metaphorically) come to fruition in S14.

Dean’s found family contains: the heart of a Nephilim, in the form of his adopted son, Jack; the grace of Castiel, now living with them (finally) at the Bunker, following Cas’ own long journey after the angel fall. And Jack himself, who, as the offspring of a human/ angel pairing is a huge metaphor for human/ angel love (aka Cupid’s bow).

And when Dean destroys the pearl, which summoned AU!Michael (metaphorically) out of his head, in the form of the ghost of his father (aka his self-repression) - what happens when that has been faced and laid to rest? The time-line course corrects, and instead of the mind-wiped solider of Heaven, who didn’t know him, Dean gets “his” Castiel back, the one who loves him, his actual heart’s desire.

And... cue intense staring, Romeo and Juliette style, in a closing balcony scene:

Why the Nickelodeon Pride Tweet isn’t as Confusing as Everyone Says it is

On June 13, Nickelodeon released the above Tweet featuring rainbow patterns on three Nickelodeon characters: Schwoz Schwartz from Henry Danger, Korra from The Legend of Korra, and, our subject for today’s discussion, SpongeBob from SpongeBob SquarePants. The caption reads, “Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month”. This entire Tweet seems to have confused many a media outlet, and even if you know the truth about SpongeBob’s LGBTQIA+ status, you can’t blame the uneducated for being confused. Let’s clear up that confusion, shall we?

First of all, I really feel like the wording on this Tweet was a mistake. Don’t get me wrong, I love my allies, but pride month is about celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community, not our allies. This is kind of like wishing someone and their entire family a happy birthday. Plus, this wording has been the culprit in tripping a lot of people up. One of the ways people have interpreted this post is that SpongeBob is actually an LGBTQIA+ ally, and although I have no doubt SpongeBob would be supportive of his friends if they came out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, etc., I really don’t think that’s Nick’s point. Plus if only three of the characters in their entire pantheon would be considered allies, that would look really bad.

So let’s take a closer look at these characters. That will really clarify the use of all the rainbows. Korra is, of course, bisexual, and this reveal at the very end of the series really [pleasantly] shocked a lot of people. Even though the last episodes premiered online, the creators could only get away with so much if their two female leads kissed onscreen, and although a lot of people see it as a copout today, it’s important to remember that this was the best they could do at the time. LGBTQIA+ representation has, for a long time in media (especially for children), been about pushing that line more and more to increase what creators could get away with. Korra is the first Nickelodeon character to be confirmed on-screen to be LGBTIA+, and we shouldn’t take credit away because her coming out is no longer up to our standards. Schwoz I had to look up, because even though his actor, Michael D. Cohen, was assigned female at birth and underwent surgeries and hormone therapy to appear more masculine (I have to say that in interviews, Cohen has stated that he does not identify as transgender, which is why I don’t say he’s transgender here, but that he did have a transgender experience; although said experience fits the definition of “transgender”, it would be wrong of me to put that label on someone who does not want it), that doesn’t mean the character himself was also assigned female at birth. I went to the character’s Wiki page and found that all his love interests were women, so I scrolled down to trivia and found that Schwoz “will be transgender in the future, according to future Ray...”. This happens in the episode “Ox Pox”, whose synopsis can be viewed here. What is important to note is that the episode premiered in 2016 whereas Cohen came out in 2019, so this likely wasn’t a jab at his identity (or at the very least I am hoping it wasn’t). Finally, the sponge himself, SpongeBob SquarePants, is asexual.

SpongeBob Squarepants is asexual.

SpongeBob’s sexuality has been up for debate for years. We live in a society where any male character that doesn’t immediately express outward affection towards a female character, he must be gay. When asked about this in a 2002 interview with The Wall Street Journal, creator Steven Hillenburg said that he believed the characters, especially SpongeBob, to be asexual. For a children’s show, that makes sense (after all, it would be really inappropriate for sexual desire to be expressed on a kids’ show). Because the article is effectively behind a paywall, you can read an article from People that says basically the same thing here. The show actually has a bit of proof of this. If we look throughout the show’s run, we can find a lot of characters end up in romantic relationships or with romantic feelings for another character, but SpongeBob doesn’t have feelings for anyone other than a Krabby patty in an episode we’d all rather pretend doesn’t exist (but click the link if you’ve somehow forgotten and are curious, I guess). Mr. Krabs, of course, develops feelings for and even enters into a romantic relationship with Mrs. Puff, Patrick develops a crush on Princess Mindy in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Squidward goes on a date with a lady octopus (and SpongeBob even helps him practice), Plankton is married to his computer wife Karen, Pearl is a teenage girl and frequently fawns over various boys, and even SpongeBob’s pet snail Gary is seen crushing on other snails. It seems that Sandy and SpongeBob are the only main characters that don’t end up with love interests at any point in the show. Even if we want to pretend that “To Love a Patty” exists and totally wasn’t a shared fever dream, it’s important to note that asexual people are completely capable of falling in love and sustaining romantic relationships; they just don’t experience a sex drive the same way non-asexual people do. From what I’ve noticed from personal experience, asexual people also tend to care very dearly for their friends, which is apparent in plenty of pre-first movie episodes as well as post-Hillenburg’s return episodes. In fact, the Valentine’s Day episode is all about SpongeBob giving all his friends Valentines, and saving the best one for his best friend Patrick. All the evidence we need is in the show.

So, why the rainbow flag?

The rainbow flag represents all LGBTQIA+ identities

The original rainbow flag was lovingly dyed and stitched together by a large group of people, including lesbians (including lesbian transgender women, and don’t you forget it!), gay men, transgender and non-binary people, and yes, even asexuals. It was meant as a symbol for us all. It represents all non-hetero and non-cisgender identities. The flags that followed exist in part to help express all the unique identities that fall under the rainbow. Think of it like the United States flag. The Star-Spangled Banner represents all of the country of the United States, but every state within has its own flag. Just because I’m from New Jersey doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to fly the US flag on Independence Day. Or any day of the year because we Americans sure do like our flag. And just because Schwoz is transgender, Korra is bisexual, and SpongeBob is asexual, doesn’t mean they’re not allowed to use the rainbow flag. So no, SpongeBob isn’t a straight ally, and he isn’t gay, either; SpongeBob is asexual, and we’re proud to call him a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

You picked up Min-min, nuzzling him. “Hmm, sweet baby.” Jin wrapped around you, gently kissing your cheek. “The other two are finally asleep.” You nodded, noticing that Minsu was quickly dropping off as he breathed in yours and Jin’s scent. “The boys okay? I know it’s stressful for them to see the kids like this.” “They’re fine, they’re more stressed because they want to help more but can’t since most of the problem is when the babes are hungry.” He gently took Minsu from you. “But they can help now. Now you need to go get cleaned up.” You looked up at him in surprise. “I do?” He nodded. “I’m taking you to dinner.” You grinned. “You are?” “I am. After all, it’s Valentine’s Day.” He leaned in and kissed you gently. “Have to set a good example for our kids. Show them how to take care of their significant other.” You smiled and kissed his cheek. “I love you.” “I love you too. Now, go get cleaned up and wear your best dress. Your favorite shoes. Do your hair, do your makeup. Jewelry. The works.” “The works,” You agreed, grinning. It’d been a while since you’d dressed up. Probably your brother’s wedding was the last time. After that you’d sort of ballooned with the triplets. Jin walked out with you, carefully passing the sleeping Minsu over to Hobi. Hobi grinned down at the baby. “So cute.” Each of the other boys was watching over the other two, and Yoongi was napping on the couch, ready to help out when he was needed. It wasn’t an IF situation. You looked over your family for a moment, then hurried into your room to get cleaned up and ready for the date Jin was taking you on. You did your hair, and makeup after putting on your nicest dress (thank God it still fit). You put on the necklace and earrings that Jin had given you for Christmas. You looked at yourself in the mirror, smiling at the reflection. You looked great. You walked out of the bathroom to see Jin dressed in his suit. Jin looked at you and grinned. “Wow…” He kissed you at least four times, then placed careful kisses around your face. Hands placed carefully on your waist as he savored the moment with you. “You look amazing, my darling.” You giggled softly, pulling away before you spun around for him. “This work for our date?” “You decide,” He answered with a grin, leading you out of the bedroom. In the hour that it took for you to get ready, the whole house had been decorated and candles lit and flowers… “I know…I know it’s not what you thought it would be. But I also know that I don’t want to have anyone ever doubt that we’re together. I want to marry you. I want to be able to really say that you’re my wife. I don’t want anyone to ever doubt that. I know I didn’t propose, but I have this.” He pulled a box from his pocket and opened it to show you a ring with the band already attached. Your mom’s ring. “It was grandma’s before mom’s,” Micheal said, smiling at you. You looked over at him, then down at the ring, then at Jin’s loving gaze. “You planned a wedding?” He nodded. “I love you,” You laughed, tearing up and gladly accepting his kiss. “Yay!” Tae shouted happily. “They’re getting married!” “And we’re watching the kids tonight and tomorrow while you two enjoy a nice stay in a hotel,” Becca chimed in. All of the boys were dressed up nicely, grinning happily. You looked down at your dress. Yes, you loved this dress, but to get married in it. “I’ve got you,” Becca said, gently pulling you away from Jin. “I have a dress upstairs for you because I knew this hare-brained—” Jungkook squeaked with indignation. “Scheme needed some sense,” Becca finished with an amused look at the boys. “Come on.” You let her drag you upstairs, where there was a garment bag hanging from the door to the closet. She went over and unzipped it. “Micheal told me that you wanted to wear this when you were younger, but he wasn’t sure if you still wanted it. I brought some other options too. It’ll give them time to finish setting things up.” You grinned. “My great grandmother’s wedding dress.” She helped you change into it, helping you button up the lace gown. “Perfect.” It was perfect. “Am I really getting married on Valentine’s day?” You laughed, tearing up a little. “You’re getting married. To Jin. The father of your children, the love of your life. A made up holiday has no relevance in the matter.” You closed your eyes, smiling. “I actually never even expected him to ask me to marry him.” “He loves you. And he knows exactly what you did and didn’t give up for him.” “I should have known. He always sees right through me.” You laughed softly, thinking about how he always seemed to know exactly what was on your heart and mind. He always knew exactly when you needed a hand to hold or a hug, or when you needed him to stay the hell away from you—and kept everyone else away as well. And if you were completely honest with yourself, you might die without his kisses. Hence, the triplets. She squealed with delight. “Look at you! My sister. Now, Micheal is technically officiating since he’s certified due to the things at Sanctuary and the haziness around marriage for hybrids that others are too idiotic to realize is actually a simple matter. However, I’ve told him to only keep to the official stuff and let you two do your own vows. I hope you can come up with vows at a moment’s notice.” “I know what I’ll say.” You reassured her. “Now send up Jimin-ah. I think the boy that started this all should walk me down the isle.” She nodded and hurried out. You adjusted your hair, thinking this was much better for the dress. Thankfully the necklace and earrings were exactly what you would wear with this dress. You just wished you had something for your hair. A veil, tiara, flower crown…something. Suddenly a flower crown was being placed carefully on your head. After it was resting perfectly, you turned to Jimin with a grin. He grinned back. “You look amazing, y/n.” “Thank you, Jimin-ah,” You kissed his cheek. “Help me get down the stairs?” He nodded, offering his arm. You took it, taking off the shoes that definitely didn’t match and that were too hard to go down the stairs in. Besides, you didn’t need them. The dress was a little short for you to wear heels anyway. Jimin led you downstairs. Jin’s face was priceless, his tail wagging way too fast to even keep track of it. You couldn’t tear your eyes away from him. Damn he looked good in a suit. You vaguely heard Micheal say something, but you were focused on Jin as you were handed off to him. He looked back with as much love as you felt for him. “You took me in,” Jin said. He looked down at your joined hands. “You took all of us in. Your heart was so big, and you loved us without precedence. You took care of the most important people in my life, and helped me so that I could continue to see them grow. But we did so much more than just recover. We became a family. We fell in love. I saw everything that you were. You gentleness, compassion, and passion. You set me free, and now I want to never be free again. I can’t stand the thought of even a single day without you and when you’re away from me I feel like I’m about to lose my mind. I want to spend my life, however long I have, by your side. I love you, y/n. I’ll love you until the end of time.” You grinned back at him. “Y/n,” Micheal murmured. You laughed softly. “You make me laugh. You’ve brought me more joy than I ever thought I could have. Before you, I was kind of lost. I had made this new home for myself, I wanted to make a difference but had no idea how. Then I found this scrawny cat-hybrid in my vegetable garden, scared because his family was suffering. That’s how I met you. The best thing that’s ever happened to me.I never indulged a dream of finding so much love. I never thought that I would meet someone as amazing as you. You see through me, and help me be true to myself. You give me the best of you, and I hope that everyday I’m giving you the best I can too. Our life looked like it would be one trial after another that we had to face together, but it’s nothing with you by my side. And we’re going to be going crazy with these triplets because it’s going to be another month before we can start to night-train them, then they’re going to start crawling and we’re going to be absolutely exhausted once they get mobile. But I’d rather be sleep-deprived with you that well-rested with anyone else. I will love you for eternity, and take care of you to the best of my ability.” Jin gently brushed your cheek. “Rings?” Micheal asked, choking slightly. Jimin handed you a ring, while Jin pulled yours from his pocket. Micheal cleared his throat, but couldn’t get past it. You took Jin’s hand. “With this ring, I thee wed, and with all my earthly goods I do thee endow.” Jin repeated your words and action, slipping the ring onto your finger and smiling when it fit you well. “Kiss,” Micheal said, looking at the ceiling. Jin didn’t hesitate to obey, and if it hadn’t been for the boys and Becca cheering, you probably would have lost yourself in multiple kisses. “Man and wife,” Micheal said hoarsely. “Sign here.” You laughed at the sight of your torn-up brother, but signed the certificate anyway. Unconventional? Always, but you were married. Everyone fell silent at a sound from the baby monitor. Yoongi and Hoseok hurried away to check on the triplets. Jin pulled you into his arms. “Let’s have some cake then go.” You looked at the baby monitor, then up at him. He smiled down lovingly. “I think eight people can take care of three babies for a day.” “We’ve got this, Eomma,” Jungkook said confidently. Jimin nodded as well. You looked up at Jin. “But—” “Y/n, we’re going,” He said firmly, pressing a kiss to your forehead. You sighed and nodded, giving in to him. “Okay.” He chuckled softly, tilting your chin up so he could kiss you. “I love you, my darling wife.” You blinked up at your husband, and you felt completely at peace. No one could ever pull him away from you now. No matter what laws changed. He would always be yours, and you his. Your perfect family.

FEBRUARY 14TH, 2021

If you were to ask Amy Santiago just a year ago what the best sound in the world was, she would’ve more than likely replied that it was either the rumble of her developing label maker or just pure, calm silence on a Sunday morning. In no world could she ever deny that she indeed still enjoyed these very specific sounds, yet these days there was something she loved even more. Something else.

As if on cue, a loud high-pitched wail cut through the bedroom’s until then silence. Automatically and actually on cue - it took no longer than one night of being a parent to learn it by heart - Amy turned over and away from where she’d been snuggled into her husband’s warm chest.

“Don’t get up,” a tired mumble from her husband caught her in the act, making her freeze on the spot and throw a glance over her shoulder. Just as she probably did, Jake looked tired; his head was still smushed into his pillow and allowed his messy morning-curls to dance across its white cotton cover. Though they weren’t yet open - his brain more than often awake before the rest of him - she could easily tell that her husband’s eyes were tired. Not just an ‘I hate getting up before 12 on a Sunday’-kind of tired, but more an ‘I hate getting up before 12 on a Sunday since I woke up twice during the night to check on my crying daughter’-kind of tired. There nothing, not even the exhaustion she felt, that could hold back a small smile.

“I have to. Marcy needs me.” In the midst of pushing herself off and away from the comfort of the mattress, Amy felt her husband’s familiar arms grab her waist before tumbling to a rest in his arms.

“I need you too,” his tired grumble against her ear still caused a shiver to this day. A peck, trying to convince her to stay, followed behind. In vain though it was very tempting to give in.

“Jake-“

A heavy sigh caused his chest to push against her back, implicitly letting her know that he knew she was right. “I know… But stay in bed, okay? I’ll get her.”

Not that she wanted to object to this but before she even had the chance, it was Jake’s turn to push himself away from his spouse and roll out of bed. Amy secretly loved that their 3-month old daughter was pretty much the only thing that could get him out of bed this fast. It seemed like such a drastic contrast to the nervous Jake that one year ago had freaked out wondering if he could live up to the big role that was a father’s. Not that Amy blamed him for these specific feelings, since they rooted in something so complex and difficult as Jake’s own dad being mostly absent and a scum for most of his son’s childhood. Even considering this - history, feelings, uncertainty - she never actually doubter her husband; not for a second. From the way his eyes had both lit and teared upon in response to her announcement of the pregnancy, Amy had always been sure of one thing and this still applied today: Jake Peralta loved his daughter more than anything else in the world, and handled it with as much humbleness, patience and love as possible after only 3 months of experience. It was safe to say that Amy was beyond proud.

“Hey, Marcipan,” the sound of her husband’s cooing voice as he rounded the corner of their bed snapped Amy out of her thoughts and back into reality. In front of her, by the bassinet placed against the wall parallel to her side of the bed, Jake appeared wearing only his boxers and a ‘Die Hard’ t-shirt which was at least a size or two to big for him. He swiftly reached out to switch on a tiny night light, which sat on the wall above the little one’s bed.

“Stop calling her that,” Amy chuckled tiredly as he leaned down over the bassinet to carefully pick up the little human, before cradling her in his arms and turning back around to face his wife. Gosh, Amy would never get tired of the sight of it. Maybe also why she happened to have at least a 1000 new photos on her phone proving just this point alone. Thank goodness Terry had advised her to upgrade her amount cloud storage. “She’s gonna grow up thinking she’s an almond-confection.”

Jake had to chuckle even and shoot a though his daughter was still letting it be known that she wanted some kind of attention by whimpering in his arms, “Are you denying the fact that my daughter is sweet enough to eat?”

Rolling her eyes and shaking her head was not uncommon in the Peralta-Santiago household and so this comment would not slip by as unnoticed either. “That’s not what I meant. And your daughter? Says the guy who said, and I quote, “Before sunrise she’s your daughter” just a few days ago.”

“Hey! I thought it would be really cool to quote Mufasa, okay? He was a great dad.”

Another roll of the eyes seemed appropriate. “Worth it?”

Amy might’ve been sarcastic, but Jake totally beamed with joy at the thought of the dark 4 AM-wake last week, where he’d delivered the iconic line when his daughter had woken them up with a fuzzy sounds and small whimpers.

FLASHBACK — PREVIOUS WEEK

Amy had immediately reacted at the sound like set to autopilot. Hoping that it was just a one of daughter’s short ‘fuzzy moments’, where she’d fuzz around for a few moments before eventually falling back to sleep without further complaints, Amy decided to stay put where she was currently resting with her upper body on top of her husband’s rising and falling chest. One of his arms was protectively wrapped slouched around across her back whilst the other was stretched out to the side across the empty part of the mattress.

Silence did not ensue the fuzz though, but instead a loud wail-turned-cry. Amy loved her daughter to pieces, but exhausted could not describe what the mother felt after having woken up just an hour ago to feed.

“Jake…” The name barely came out as an actual word and more in the resemblance of an animalistic sound. Emphasising that she wished to stay where she was, Amy scooted herself in deeper into his chest.

“Hmmm…” His mumble let her know that he was definitely in deeper sleep than her.

“Marcy s’wake.” It might’ve seemed like just an obvious statement from her part, which it to some extent was, but also more importantly a hint.

“Hmm ’know.”

After another few seconds of not moving, neither of them, Amy figured she had to vocalise her intentions. “Check on her… Please…”

“Before sunrise she’s your daughter.” Jake didn’t have to open his eyes to know that this had caught his wife’s attention - fully awake or not - and definitely wasn’t pleased with the timing of his Disney-reference. The always quirky and bantering aspect of their relationship definitely hadn’t dissolved because of Marcy, but there was now a sense of time and place that needed to be considered: a pitch dark February morning at 4 AM was not an exception and Jake knew.

“Jake…” Though she wasn’t in on the joke, Amy’s mumble definitely sounded like the one of a displeased lioness, which was kinda hot to Jake but then again: time and place.

“Yeah.” Well-knowing that it was only fair that he got up for this one, very aware of all the hard mommy-hours Amy put in these days even though taking care of Marcy was very equally balanced between the two of them, Jake lazily leaned down to peck his wife’s forehead before gently slipping out from beneath her. “Show me going.”

“Thank you. I love you.”

END OF FLASHBACK

“Though I do not stand by what the quote stands for, I do not regret saying it.”

Marcy’s cries grew louder - completely drowning out everything else - letting her parents know that enough was enough. Actually so much that her cries turned in to straight up howling. Jake’s attention was immediately redirected back to his daughter, concern showing on his face as he kissed her forehead and made his way over to Amy.

“Don’t cry, baby. Daddy’s right here. You hungry?”

Having already propped herself up onto her elbow, Amy pushed away the duvet to welcome her crying daughter into her arms before carefully placing her on the mattress by her chest. “Hey now, Marce. We’re gonna settle that hungry tummy. Just give mommy a second.” Duty called and Amy skilfully pulled up her NYPD-shirt to reveal the nethermost breast before cradling the soft back of her daughter’s head in order to lead her. Behind her, she could feel the mattress dipping under the weight of her husband as he got back under their shared duvet meanwhile a fuzzy Marcy’s head was uncontrollably and unsuccessfully rummaging the area around her mother’s nipple only growing more and more angry; the crying growing more desperate.

“Marcy,” the mother softly cooed as she tried to guide her daughter to where she needed to be. “It’s right there, baby. No need to get angry.”

Jake could only scoot in close to his wife’s back, watching the scene unfold in front of him with dreamy eyes. This - the same exact thing - had happened countless time by now since a 3-month old ate a billion times a day. Yet Jake’s chest never ceased to burst every time he watched his amazing wife take her time with their little one. It seemed banal but it was truly one of his favourite things ever. Nothing or no one else could compare these days.

As a contrast as strong as night and day, the family bedroom was suddenly drenched in complete silence; cries replaced by the gentle slurps and sound of Marcy sucking. A sigh of relief and calmness coming from the very bottom of Amy’s chest seemed heavily appropriate.

“She finally found it,” chuckled Jake, placing an arm around his wife’s chest to hold her while he stroked his daughter’s feet with hands that made the tiny vessel of life seem even smaller. Some would maybe call it banal but to Jake there was nothing more amazing that this. This right here. His best friend and wife quietly breastfeeding their daughter. He still remembered the first time he experienced and felt that slight clench of bliss in his chest oh so clearly.

FLASHBACK - NOVEMBER 10TH, 2020

Overwhelmed was probably the most suiting word as Jake planted a long, tender kiss to his wife’s sweaty forehead to accompany his hand which was holding her firmly while a loud wailing engulfed the room. The wail belonged to his probably not more than 1 minute old daughter: Marcia Santiago-Peralta. The little bean he’d been talking to through Amy’s womb was now a whole, tiny, living human. She was here.

“I’m so proud of you,” his voice was strained with tears just like his eyes as he spoke those words into his wife’s forehead, meaning every syllable more than anything else he’d ever previously said. He always knew that his wife was a total badass - even before they’d started dating - but tonight was the most solid proof. No one needed to tell him that he’d never be able to do what she’d just done. “You’re amazing. I love you so much, Ames.”

Though not letting go of her hand, Jake pulled back to look down at his obviously exhausted by also glowing, always stunning teary-eyed wife and now mom. Her chest was still heaving in attempt to catch up with the breathing she’d completely lost to the last 10 hours of screaming, groaning, crying and pushing - sometimes all of those simultaneously. Not going to lie, Jake had to admit that he’d been rather emotionally unstable during those 10 hours. On the other hand he did managed to keep it inside and be over the top attentive, calm and collected on the outside for Amy’s sake.

“I love you so much too, babe,” she let go of his hand in order to reach up and cup then stroke his cheek with her trembling thumb. Her body was still in an incoherent state of both exhaustion and adrenaline rushing through her, but none of that seemed to matter anymore. Nothing else. “She’s here.”

Brighter, even brighter than when she agreed to marry him, Jake smiled and gave off a weak nod. This woman was indeed his sun and his moon, his everything, and now together they’d created a little star. The feeling seemed beyond words.

“Here she comes.” The voice immediately caused both parents’ heads to snap out of their moment and in the direction of the smiling nurse who walked towards them with their crying daughter. Looking back it seemed rather morbid, but right in that moment there was no sound more beautiful than those cries. Next thing he knew Marcia was resting stomach down on her mother’s chest. Amy’s hands immediately and instinctively wrapped theirselves around her - one supporting her bottom as the other carefully held and stroked her head - before leaving down to kiss the soft top.

“Hi, baby,” she addressed the little human calmly through the loud crying in an attempt to soothe both Marcy and herself. “No need to cry. Mommy is here and she loves you so so much.”

Jake carefully leaned down, resting a hand on his daughter’s back before carefully pecking the spot Amy had previously kissed. “Welcome, Marcy,” he sniffed, trying to compose himself before continuing to speak, ”I’m your daddy.”

Another few beats of cries, tears and loving words mingled in the room before the same nurse who’d brought them Marcy politely interrupted them. “I think it’s time for you to feed her, Amy. She’s probably hungry and it’ll also calm her down.”

Amy listened carefully, looking up at the nurse from her sitting position in her bed with attentive doe-eyes as the process was briefly explained to her. Jake’s hand was on her shoulder know, gently rubbing it as he felt his wife tense when the nurse told her to go ahead and push up her shirt. He leaned down to whisper in her ear, “Hey,” he pecked the shell reassuringly. “You’ll do fine, Ames. The worst is behind us. I’m right here.”

After randomly choosing a side and pushing up the shirt, too focused to actually vocally answer and instead just nodding, Amy carefully - as if she was handling fine china - placed their daughter horizontally against her chest and followed the nurses instruction. Marcy was still crying hysterically, squirming discontentedly when Amy cupped the back of her head, holding it still and guiding it towards the bare nipple which she was told to stabilise with her free hand. All at once it seemed overwhelming and clumsy to Amy, especially when the baby kept crying and missing the goal. But Jake could only sit in his chair, which he’d pulled as close to the bed as possible, and stare with admiration.

The need to cry definitely didn’t grow smaller. “Shh shh, Marcy. It’s okay, baby. I’m trying to help you,” Amy cooed.

Suddenly a contrasting silence engulfed the room. Wide smiles grew on both of the new parents’ faces. “Jake! She’s sucking! She got it!” Amy chuckled with relief, once again teary eyed as she snapped her head in the direction of her already looking husband.

Slowly as to not interrupt Jake reached across the edge of the bed to stroke his daughter’s head. She’d only been around for a couple of minutes but somehow Jake couldn’t get enough of her. He just wanted to touch and hold her forvever. “She’s brilliant...” Then he turned his gaze towards his wife who couldn’t stop looking down at what was happening right there in her arms.

She must’ve noticed because suddenly she tore her eyes away from her daughter to instead look at her husband. A fond silence and stare was shared between the two, lasting for who knows how long, before Jake decided to finish his sentence. “Brilliant just like her mom.”

END OF FLASHBACK

“Yeah,” Amy’s voice clearly smiled. After making sure her daughter was indeed properly installed and comfortable, the mother allowed her arm and head to lie back down onto the pillow, yet still keeping her hand on the back of the baby’s head. Her fingers, including both her engagement and wedding ring, softly stroked the soft skin and feathery, tiny hairs. A beat of a moment later Amy could feel her husband settling down behind her properly, keeping her close, and gently placing his head on top of hers. Together in silence they took in the miracle in front of them. Nothing better than this little miracle of life had ever been given to them. The quiet suckling went on, working as a calming sound machine for the tired parents whose eyelids were heavy as yet they couldn’t get themselves to close them just yet. Amy felt a press of lips against the side of her neck.

“Happy Valentine’s day. I love you so much,” followed behind, soaking into the skin of his wife’s neck in the form of a muffled promise. “Not just today, but also all the days before and all the days forever after.”

Shivers of pure love and happiness went through Amy’s entire body.

“I love you too. So very much…”

Without bothering their daughter, Amy emphasised her response by twisting her back to the side to look at Jake. Meeting her halfway, their lips met in a soft, chaste kiss that contain all the love in the world. Not only for each other, but for their daughter and family as well. When pulling back, Jake took a moment to take in his wife’s tired but nonetheless always beautiful features. His eyes reflected the light from the still switched on night light, only emphasising the stars of adoration that already shined within them.

“We’ve obviously had other priorities lately, so I haven’t had the time to plan anything this year… But if you’re up for it I’d be more than willing to work something out?” Jake spoke, carefully keeping his voice at a reasonable level. While he did love his daughter more than anything, he also loved ‘mommy and daddy-time’, which was basically only an option when their little one was either asleep or eating. Or both. It was all about seizing the little moment before it was too late.

A beat of a paused let him know that she was thinking, only to be interrupted by her daughter’s mouth slipping off her mother’s nipple. Small whimpers of frustration immediately began to grow. Luckily the mother’s hand was quick to lead her daughter back on track, silencing her once again. Amy smiled to herself in content then twisted her neck to somewhat face her husband again.

“Jake… It’s okay. I’m completely content with this. I don’t need anything else today or any day ever. This is the perfect Valentine’s day. Thank you.”

Also while venting to my therapist about my toxic friendship that ended in January, I recounted events as early as 2007 regarding the way she was acting towards me and my therapist made the comment “sweetheart, not a soul on earth would’ve stayed friends with someone that long and still have been so kind..” and she looked very saddened by the admittance that for over a decade I was friends (I honestly considered her a close aquatintence..) with a girl who was toxic and shady from the beginning and I still saw the best in her.

The reason she was brought up in therapy was because I told my therapist I wanted to apologize to her.

Here’s the run down (summarized):

- November 2018 I got back in touch with the friend who disappeared on me for several months

- She tells me she is now married to a woman (the last time we spoke she was begging me for money that I wouldn’t send her and lying about a domestic relationship with a man she was involved with that turned into her dating his sister when she got him put in jail for false accusations...that she forced his own sister to play her side on during court)

- I was weary of her...but I’m genuine, I accept her back into my life..I assume we will be distant as always (I kept my distance from her because I didn’t want to be dragged into any of her mess..)

- I (mistakenly) inform her about my relationship with a very good man (I used to tag him on here..yeah, I miss that)

- December 2018....the problems embark

- First week of December was spent dealing with her issues regarding her wife..she disclosed very insensitive information to me regarding someone she was married to and I felt like it was disrespectful of her...but I am a genuine person so I heard her out..let her speak. Those problems stayed between us. Her and her wife went back to being “fine”...

- Second week of December 2018 a friend of mine was having a crisis. I went to his house for comfort (his mother passed away suddenly and I met her that summer so to me it felt like a loss also) the guy I was dating knew about me going to see my friend...he was weird about it.

- Third week of December 2018...I am not officially dating the guy I was dating (wasn’t official because I wanted to slow down..it was still rushed anyway) within two days of dating he was going through my messages on my phone without my knowledge or permission. I felt like that was crossing a line...I thought we trusted each other. I was hurt.

- Fourth week of December 2018...angry, I went to my friend in person to vent. She comforted me along with her wife. I felt better...I felt home. They made me tea and something to eat. I said a lot of things in anger about the guy that day but in the end I still went home to him and we made up. Things were good.

- January 2019...the shitstorm hits the fan. Invited friend out with boyfriend in hometown to work out. Her wife didn’t come..she felt neglected but my boyfriend at the time made sure to make her feel included however he also focused on me most...which I found alluring. Didn’t notice that my friend was high key jealous...it showed later that night.

- January 2019 still the first week and same day as previous line. Friend decides to bring up old friend from high school in an odd way. She asks me “Have you spoken to her recently?” I reply honestly with “No, but I have never really been close to her. She’s cool.” Mistake 1...of many with my reply. She went back to old friend and told her “Dani says you and her haven’t talked recently so you’re a liar.” She tells me this, hoping it would anger me..it doesn’t. I simply say “No hard feelings. I see her on Facebook and she looks well. I hope all is well.” My friend doesn’t like my docile response...this will turn bitter the next hour.

- Same day, I am now driving in place of my tired and exhausted boyfriend back to their city, two hours from the hometown. Friend decides to randomly say “(friends name who she mentioned earlier) Looks fucking stupid. She’s a girl looking like a man. Haha remember when you were into that shit?” This angers me. My boyfriend in the backseat heard this comment..but he and I discussed it prior to dating..she says this like it was supposed to make him question me..neither he nor I react. So she keeps talking. “Don’t you think that’s fucking weird? You’re a GIRL! With GIRL parts! You’re not a fucking man.” While she’s talking I remember back years prior where she would say something aimed to make me react..but this time, I knew better. I also remember in present day she’s dating a woman who looks like a man herself, when meeting her wife I let her wife speak first so I knew the pronouns she preferred and she goes by “she”. Either way I remember wanting to say “That’s insensitive (friends name). You’re married to someone like that. Have some class.” But instead I say nothing, because in my head this wasn’t worth an argument and I knew all she wanted to be was right...so I said nothing. This would be the biggest regret I’d ever make.

- January 2019...second week. I get a call from my boyfriend in tears the day before his 21st birthday. He tells me that my friend invited him over to their house (mind you all, I don’t live there or near them...this doesn’t mean I don’t trust them despite my friends history of insecurity...I was secure in myself and man to not think she would ever pull such a foul move...) and they told him everything I said the night I was angry. Remember that being from December.....I remember not saying anything for a moment because I was shocked she crossed me but I also was not going to lie. He accepts my admittance and we are fine. My friend however....isn’t happy that we made up. She doesn’t stop there.

- The final thread that broke us. January 25th 2019...it all ends. She couldn’t let go that for once I was happy with someone and rather than seeing me happy and looking at her miserable last minute marriage to a woman she obviously didn’t know well enough to be angry about trivial things...her jealousy got the best of her. She ruined my relationship with my boyfriend and she attempted to ruin my relationship to the friend she brought up. The friend however knows me better than her and rather than letting her talk shit about me, she came directly to me saying “Everything I’m hearing from (friends name) is rather disturbing and doesn’t sound like you at all. Can I please ask what’s going on for her to be sending me messages trash talking you like she and I are friends or even on that level? I’m not comfortable with this. If I caused anything I’m very sorry but this truly bothers me what she’s saying about you *she attached the screen shots*”

- February 2019....I had not responded to the screen shot message in two weeks. Not because Of shock but because I wanted to see their characters play out. I’m genuine...I have nothing bad to say about the friend who ruined my relationship to a distant friend who hasn’t spoken to me in years...it just simply wasn’t my character to go back and forth like this..so I didn’t.

- Valentine’s Day 2019...my ex has moved on. He’s dating a girl he was seeing two days after splitting from me. I wished him the best. I am genuine...so when I said I hope he’s happy, I meant it. The friend who ruined us followed his social media until he re-made his accounts. I remember telling myself that all good things end but I couldn’t bring myself to understand..what I did wrong for them to even end.

So I’m sitting with my therapist in 2019 now 10 months later, telling her all this (plus the stuff from 2007 that’s just too many receipts to type out here) and she knows all of this and the words that I finish with were “I want to apologize to her.”

My therapist was shocked. After hearing all that, she was genuinely shocked. However my mind has been made up for months that I wanted to apologize to my friend. But let me finish...

I want to apologize to my friend for trusting her. For allowing myself to think that because she could trust me and come to me with genuine confusion and pain..that I thought I could do the same. To apologize for allowing the pain of years prior to never tell her how she hurt me or why simply because I made the excuse “that’s who she is..I accept it about her. I won’t hold it against her” to be the reason I kept allowing her shitty behavior and attitude to poison my life. To apologize for thinking she ever really meant she was changing when she said she was. For being her cheerleader while she was stealing my happiness, trust and care to then poison the water we drank. I wanted to apologize to her for being true and pure while she was fake and toxic.

In the end she left me with a message that I kept screen shot and as my lock screen, to remind me exactly why our friendship ended. Because even in the end I still felt so bad...so bad for her because I knew she was hurting and lost..I genuinely wanted to know she was alright. I wanted the best for her but she was jealous of me the whole time.

I’m bittersweet about our friendship having ended. It still hurts and even though now I accept it, it was very hard to me to realize I don’t need to apologize to her. I expected one from her though, for all these years, and even when she never thought to say sorry to me..she still crossed my mind even after what she did to me.

But I am finally free..I can finally wash my hands of this and I can say I’m finally clean of this and her.

Happy Valentine's day!!!!

My appointment we nt well yesterday! I dropped my son off at the school bus and left home at 8am, I drove to our nearest metropolitan trains (1.5 hours away). I got to the city around 11 and my first stop....... I went and bought some hair!!! Yay, I now have a wig, I feel it looks really good.

After that I went to Myer looking for shoes, it's interesting walking around the women's shoe department dressed as a guy, nobody wants to help you. Eventually a saleslady asked if I needed help, she told me to try the men's section because there's probably some in my size there, I'm not sure she got it. Long story short, I'm bigger than an 11 which was as big as they go.

After that I just wandered around looking at all the beautiful clothes wishing I had a female friend with me to be able to go shopping. I caught the tram then to my appointment, I was 40 minutes early so grabbed some lunch then wandered around to the clinic. The gp was very happy with my last bloods which was 4 weeks ago and said if I want to step up the E I'm more than welcome to. So as of yesterday 13/2/2019, 8 weeks on hrt, I'm up to 6mg of E.

From there I caught the tram back into the city and almost left my new wig on the tram, thank God the lovely lady next to me stopped me as I was getting off. I went to haighs chocolate and bought some chocolate for my wonderful wife for Valentine's day and then caught the train home. I got home at 630pm so in total was a 10.5 hours for a 10 minute appointment.

Today we meet with our bank manager and we are going to tell him I'm trans, for some, that would seem minor. Because of our business, it's pretty big, after all, we owe him around 1.5 mil. Wish us luck.

Shadowhunters was nominated for four awards (with two of those awards having two Shadowhunters nominees each) at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards. They took home the Teen Choice Award for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show and Matthew Daddario earned himself a surfboard for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor! Happy Valentine's Day To My Many Anime Man Crushes

There are a lot of things that I love in this world. I have a beautiful wife that is the closest thing to perfection that this universe has ever produced. I have an Australian cattle dog named Elmer who is utterly delightful and also possibly insane. I have a family that has been almost supernaturally supportive. I have friends that I adore who constantly spice up my life in unexpected and amazing ways. I have hobbies that bring me both fulfillment and peace. I have a job that I wouldn't trade for anything else. I have memories that I will cherish until my dying day.

And while all the stuff that I talked about earlier is important, I guess, I'd like to take the time to actually wish a Happy Valentine's Day to all of my anime man crushes. You all share a special part of my heart, and for the first time, I'd like the truly share that part with the rest of humanity.

So Happy Valentine's Day, Roronoa Zoro. Remember during the Skypiea arc, when you said you weren't afraid of God because....

And Chopper reacted like this:

That was me, too. I was also Chopper in that moment. And what's better, you left it at that. You didn't follow it up with "Well, ACTUALLY, did you know that the historical documents from the time period prove that no one named Noah got enough materials to build an ark, ACTUALLY." You're just so awesome, Zoro.

And then there was that time in One Piece Film Gold where you were just trying to nap and you wore this hat, and I'm not trying to make this weird, but I just wish that you'd wear that hat again and maybe even swear off shirts forever.

Happy Valentine's Day, Jotaro Kujo. When I first met you, you were shotgunning a beer while listening to a boombox and reading Weekly Shonen Jump. I've never related to an anime character so hard in my entire life. I know that you seem like you have a rough and tough exterior, but you really care about your family, and that's endearing.

So maybe we could grab a drink and, I don't know, talk about Shonen Jump? We have a lot in common. And if I got a little too tipsy at the bar, you could carry me home. I doubt it would be a problem, since your bicep muscles are wider than most compact cars.

Happy Valentine's Day, Kakashi. Sometimes, I get pretty high strung and stressed out from work, but you're such a calming presence. I know that, in high school when I first started watching Naruto, everyone was enamored with Sasuke and his wonderful Hot Topic aesthetic, but I gravitated towards you more. I really like your hair and the way that it flops over, as if it's not actually hair but rather a sleeping forest critter that somehow only made it halfway on top of your skull but has decided to nap regardless.

We could go eat ramen together and we wouldn't even have to talk. I could wear a ninja headband, the one I bought from this dude in ninth grade who said that his older brother worked on the show. I think he may have been lying, though.

Happy Valentine's Day Major Armstrong...

and All-Might...

I know that you exist in different universes (at least until that sweet Jump Force DLC comes out), but I feel like we could all go to the gym together and y'all would spot me on bench press, and y'all wouldn't even call out the fact that I'm lifting a third as much because y'all are just cool like that. And then I'd see y'all exchanging phone numbers in the parking lot and becoming best friends AND IT WOULD ALL BE BECAUSE OF ME.

And then we could all hang out and talk about how much of a jerk Endeavor is.

And finally, Happy Valentine's Day, Dudes In The Trailer For The New Fire Emblem Game That Came Out Yesterday. We haven't gotten acquainted yet, but it's rare that I watch a video game trailer and think "Oh, I bet he'll be my dude crush for this game...."

...and then, two seconds later, realize, "No, HE'LL be my dude crush for this game..."

I can't wait to find out which one of you I'll try desperately to keep from dying in July 2019. But as long as you both can live up to my dearest anime-esque game crush Frederick, from Fire Emblem: Awakening, I'm sure I will be in terrific company.

So there you have it. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you. I know you're probably busy saving the world and everything, but we should really hang out soon. I'll make margaritas and we can just chat about life and stuff. And then I'll wake up and realize that anime isn't real, and sob myself quietly back to sleep.
