HAPPY BIRTHDAY to pedal steel guitarist Joe Alterio, composer John Antes, Dave Appell, Roscoe Arbuckle, J.S. Bach’s BRANDENBURG CONCERTOS (1721), Joseph Barbera, the 1980 Beatles RARITIES LP, Beethoven’s MISSA SOLEMNIS (1824), Laura Flynn Boyle, Sharon Corr, Don Covay, Fanny Crosby “Queen of Gospel Songwriters,” Klaus Dinger (Kraftwerk), Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Gorgeous George, the 1988 musical GOSPEL AT COLONUS, civil rights activist Dorothy Height, Connie Hines (Mr. Ed), Patterson Hood (Drive By Truckers), Harry Houdini, Yanks Janis, Carol Kaye, Mike Kellie (Spooky Tooth), Krisdayanti, Kelly LeBrock, Pacemaster Mase (De La Soul), Steve McQueen (got that song waiting for you), Malcolm Muggeridge, Nivea, Lee Oskar, Paradox Thought, Joseph Priestley, cellist Hank Roberts, Klavdiya Shulzhenko, Billy Stewart, Dorothy Stratton, Sylvester the Cat, Dougie Thompson (Supertramp), Fred Vail, Boogie Bill Webb, Tommy Wilson, and the great singer-songwriter, producer, and entertainer Nick Lowe. If you collected all the recordings he’s produced, played on, and/or wrote songs for (plus the cover versions), you’d have an amazing, well-rounded record library par excellente. He’s intersected with Johnny Cash, Elvis Costello, Dave Edmunds, and a galaxy of other notables. Seeing him with Rockpile (twice) left an indelible impression on me in terms of stage presence and entertainment value. When his PURE POP FOR NOW PEOPLE LP came out, it became required listening in my social circle. I read that Nick never does live performances of his song “I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass” (allegedly a comeback to a Blondie song). So here’s my take of it, live at the Cellblock (opening for The Badlees). Meanwhile, HB Nick!

1992 - Beverly Hills, 90210 - 2x23 - Cardio Funk
Episode aired 27 February 1992
Dylan and Brenda's relationship is put to the test when Dylan is tempted to cheat on Brenda by his old surfing friend Sarah (Heather McAdam), whom he meets at an AA meeting and whose problem is worsening, for she is driven to the bottle by her abusive, equally alcoholic boyfriend.
Brenda attracts the attention of Tim (Hank Stratton), a college guy in her exercise class, and she is tempted especially since Dylan is paying more attention to Sarah than to her.
Meanwhile, Jim and Nat hope to boost business for the Peach Pit with karaoke, which is short-lived due to lack of interest from everyone except Jim.

Demonwarp (1988)
Directed by Emmett Alston, Demonwarp is a sci-fi horror-fest that stars George Kennedy (just before The Naked Gun revived his career), David Michael O’Neil, Pamela Gilbert, Billy Jacoby, Colleen McDermott, Hank Stratton, John Durbin, and Joe Praml. Whilst confusing at times, mainly due to missing out important plot details (well it was filmed in twelve days!), it just about manages to tick off…

ELABORATE LIVES/AIDA Atlanta '98
In 1998, the world premiere version of the Disney/Elton John/Tim Rice Aida musical was presented at Atlanta, Georgia's Alliance Theater, under the title "Elaborate Lives: The Legend of Aida." When it finally made it to Broadway in 2000 under the title "Aida," it had a wholly new staging and physical production, plus a different leading man. Here are Heather Headley, Hank Stratton and Sherie Rene Scott in the Atlanta version, including some material that didn't make it to Broadway (Our Nation Holds Sway, The Messenger)." The pyramid set design in Atlanta only worked some of the time; it is working here.

Spring Awakening at U of A
Hey wueens so as you know i saw God’s show, Spring Awakening, at U of A last weekend. This is a long ass review so strap in.
The audience was like 90% elderly people
it was a preview maybe a senior center bought out the show
WENDLA ROSE OUT OF THE STAGE BEFORE MAMA WHO BORE ME IT WAS AMAZING
Wendla had amazing voice
Adult woman had awesome hair it was all done up in some intricate style with these curly tendrils in the front
the dresses!!! all the girls had the prettiest dresses it was so well costumed!!!
They did the handheld mics during the songs but they made it work it wasn’t that awkward
i tried to guess who was who with the girls and i got them right wow my mind
Moritz was very attractive and tall
His hair got taller as the show went on
We love evolution
Bitch of living was v angreyyy i approve
They kinda thrusted into the chairs we love metaphors
Moritz’s voice was fantastic
When Thea said he’s such a RADICAL everyone FALLS DOWN like it wasn’t just swooning it was very extra we love that
There was definitely something between Thea and Anna they were always holding hands and teasing each other it was so cute
The girls were on the steps during the Desdemona monologue ad wend and Ilse were leaning against each other like swaying idk it was cute
Thea and Anna also sang their my junk solos to each other
Hanschen continued to jerk it through Georg’s parts with Frauline gbh which is dedication and perseverance at it’s finest
Also Frauline G left before the last verse of my junk and she like blew Georg a kiss and it was funny you had to be there
Melchior and Moritz were pretty gay in Touch Me
They did the thing where Melchior moves Moritz’s hands down his body and my brain short circuited a little
They omitted the gay choreo with everyone else though which is sad
There was an understudy on for Otto and he killed his solo
Georg MURDERED ME with those riffs at the end WOW
Anna and Thea did some ballet looking stuff at the end of touch me it was really pretty
Melchior talked in a different voice around Wendla, kind of like someone who’s trying to sell you something
Melchior always initiated whether it was kissing, holding hands, etc.
so Martha!!!! Is!!! A powerhouse!!!!! she was so good in The Dark I Know Well like i got chills. her voice was amazing.
Thea, Anna, and Wendla watched Martha sing for a little bit (she was up with the orchestra)
Anna and Thea left (holding hands, may I add) but Wendla stayed for a little longer before walking off
Thea and Anna came and sang the last part of tdikw
Still holding hands
Wendla didn’t which ties into the whole “I’ve never been beaten before” thing
All the boys besides Melchior circled the girls during the end of the song
It was during the “I Passed” scene that I realize I know the guy who played Georg from high school. Congrats to him on getting the lead (he’s @its-webbin-time go follow him)
Martha handed Wendla the switch
It was not thin at all it looked like a baguette
Imagine being hit with something that thick yikes
Georg and Otto gave me chills with their little woyb reprise
Moritz did this anxious thing with his feet when he read the letter during And Then There Were None
He was so angry and frustrated I loved it
Mirror Blue Night was listed as “Mirror Blue Light” in the program for some reason
The consent in the hayloft scene was pretty dubious. I’m proud of the director for realizing Wedekind’s intent (I’ve known the director since I was 11. If you’re reading this, hi Hank!)
The wendla/melchior relationship was portrayed as romantic for the most part though
I didn’t see any nudity in “I Believe” but I talked to the director and apparently there was some ass but I didn’t see it from where I was
I wished Moritz’s hair was bigger in Don’t Do Sadness; it wasn’t as crazy as it could have been
They were facing toward the audience with the mic stands like in obc
Ilse didn’t like artists colony but kept trying to find something positive
When Ilse said “brush your hair and curl it” she reached out in front of her and Moritz reacted and like smiled it was cute
Moritz really wanted to go with her, I almost thought he would for a moment
He lit the letter on fire and waved it kinda slowly it was so pretty
I can’t remember if they do that in the obc I haven’t watched it in a while
I tensed up when Moritz put the gun in his mouth the actor was so good
Same hole in the stage they used for Moritz’s grave during left behind
Ilse left the bouquet of flowers she was carrying on stage after dds and everyone took a few and put them in grave during left behind it was a nice touch
Otto took off his glasses at Moritz’s grave
Ernst glared at Herr Stiefel when he went up to the grave
Totally fucked was HYPE HOOOOO
A good number of people left at intermission and there were two seats right up front. I should have gone down to them because the cast sang right to the people in the front row
I missed my chance to get close to the handsome and talented Jared as Georg and I will have to live with this regret all my life
Anna did a cartwheel
Hanschen started off the vineyard scene kinda arrogant and show-offish if that makes sense
But by the end it was so soft lemme tell you
Ernst had his knees hugged into his chest, like he was really shaken by what happened with Moritz
i’ve never seen him done like that but i liked it
After Hansi said why not? instead of kissing Ernst’s mouth he went for the cheek and like trailed down Ernst’s neck i DIED
AND AFTER THEY FINISHED SINGNG HANS GAVE HIM SWEET PECK ON THE MOUTH
thank you to Hank Stratton for giving the gays rights
When the doctor tells Frau Bergmann about Wendla’s pregnancy he mouthed “Wendla’s pregnant” and had this incredibly judgemental look on his face
Wendla screamed MAMA as the abortionist dragged her away and i felt it in my chest ugh
Mo and wend came back in white during those you’ve known and Moritz had the same lil crosses on his pants as he did on the school uniform
i appreciated the attention to detail
Also the cast sat around the stage on chairs or the floor watching most of the scenes
Looking at the program— Thea was the dance captain and Anna was the fight captain
So it was pretty fire I recommend seeing it if you’re in Tuscon, Arizona anytime soon. Here’s the stage:
(Note the scoldings written on the stage and the chairs on the cealing!!)
And the article about it in the paper:
#the saddest part is that i didnt know it was jared during bol or when he got those sweet sweet frauline gbh lips#spring awakening#moritz stiefel#sa#melchior gabor#wendla bergmann#hanschen rilow#ernst robel#ilse neumann#martha bessel#otto lammermeier#georg zirschnitz#thea#thea rilow#anna#anna wheelan#marianna wheelan#university of arizona#u of a

Ok, so, I said I should make a masterlist of Robert Vaughn roles and whether or not each character survived, so here it is, under the cut--presented in chronological order of release/airdate, here are the roles that @ksturf and/or I have seen (will be updated as we see more).
(Obviously, spoilers...)
Hamlet (Hamlet) -- death by poisoned blade
Pharaonic solider (Ten Commandments) -- death by Red Sea re-merge
Idol Worshipper (Ten Commandments) -- death by the wrath of God (yup, two bit parts in this move, and they both got killed off...)
Mr. Beekman (Father Knows Best) -- survives
Bob Ford (Hell’s Crossroads) -- survives
Buddy Root (No Time to Be Young) -- survives
Billy Jack (Zane Gray Theater) -- death by gunshot
Johnny Adler (Zane Gray Theater) -- survives
Kid (Gunsmoke) -- death by gunshot (after literally twenty seconds onscreen)
Andy Bowers (Gunsmoke) -- survives
Frank Elliot (Panic!) -- survives
Symbol Maker’s Son (Teenage Caveman) -- survives
Hank Barlow (Mike Hammer) -- survives
Dr. Dixon (Whirlybirds) -- survives
Don Bigelow (Unwed Mother) -- survives

George Jones (State Trooper) -- death by execution
Roger Mowbray (Riverboat) -- survives
Art (Alfred Hitchcock Presents) -- death by gunshot
Theodore Roosevelt (Law of the Plainsman) -- survives in the episode, but as he’s playing a historical figure who eventually dies, idk what to count this one as...
Asa Bannister (The Rebel) -- survives
Perry Holcomb (Men into Space) -- survives (just barely)
Lee (The Magnificent Seven) -- death by gunshot I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THIS; YOU CAN’T MAKE ME 😭
Sandy Kayle (Laramie) -- death by gunshot/rock slide combo (I think; it’s been a while since I seen this one)
Dr. Guy Collins (The June Allyson Show) -- survives
Roy Pelham (Wagon Train) -- survives
Roger Bigelow (Wagon Train) -- survives
Dr. Frank Cordell (Thriller) -- death by falling
Billy the Kid (Tales of Wells Fargo) -- survives
Luke Martin (Bonanza) -- survives, but his fate isn’t so good as he’s pretty much promised death by hanging
Earl Rogers (G. E. True) -- survives
Simon Clain (The Virginian) -- I’m 99% sure he survived (it’s been a while)
Jim Darling (The Dick Van Dyke Show) -- survives
Capt. Raymond Rambridge (The Lieutenant) -- survives
Napoleon Solo (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) -- survives (after 10,000 close calls, but still!!!)
Bill Fenner (The Venetian Affair) -- survives
Walter Chalmers (Bullitt) -- survives
Antonio (If it’s Tuesday, it Must be Belgium) -- survives
Paul Krueger (The Bridge at Remagen) -- death by execution
Casca (Julius Caesar) -- not entirely sure, but seeing as though he is last mentioned by an angry mob out to get him and is never seen after that, I’m going to guess death by angry mob
Ray Whitely (The Statue) -- survives (but his dignity does not)
Neilson (Clay Pigeon) -- death by gunshot
Jerry Hunter (The Woman Hunter) -- death by gunshot or a fall (forget which...)
Harry Rule (The Protectors) -- survives
Parker (The Towering Inferno) -- death by fall
Charles Clay (Columbo) -- death by blunt force trauma
Hayden Danziger (Columbo) -- survives
Proteus IV (Demon Seed) -- survives... in a manner of speaking (he’s a sentient computer who uploads his sentience to a human body as he’s being shut down, so technically, he lives)
Col Rogers (Brass Target) -- death by gunshot (I think? It’s been a while)
Sebastian Rolande (Hawaii 5-O) -- survives
Hud (Cuba Crossing) -- death by gunshot
Harrison Crawford (City in Fear) -- survives
Barkley (Virus) -- death by genetically modified flu virus (saw that coming a mile and a half away...)
Gelt (Battle Beyond the Stars) -- death by intergalactic battle
David (S.O.B.) -- survives
FDR (FDR: That Man in the White House) -- survives, but, again, he’s playing a historical figure who suffers death by polio...
Ross Webster (Superman III) -- survives
Ed Ryland (Black Moon Rising) -- death by car
Stanley Auerbach (Prince of Bel Air) -- survives (not to be confused with a popular 90s sitcom of a similar name)

Ray Melton (Nightstick) -- survives
Jerome Huxley (Ray Bradbury Theatre) -- death by strangulation
Schneider (Skeleton Coast) -- death by gunshot
Byron Orlock (Transylvania Twist) -- undead/temporarily dead

Edwin Chancellor (Murder She Wrote) -- alive
Charles Winthrop (Murder She Wrote) -- alive
Col. Gavron (Tatort) -- death by explosion
Dennis Forbes (Dancing in the Dark) -- alive
The Devil (Witch Academy) -- immortal
Dr. Stewart Rizor (Walker, Texas Ranger) -- death by gunshot
Bill Stratton (Diagnosis Murder) -- death by gunshot
Alexander Drake (Diagnosis Murder) -- death by gunshot
Prof. Michaels (An American Affair) -- alive
Ron Fairfax (The Sender) -- death by gunshot
James Sheffield (The Nanny) -- death by old age (I think? I didn’t watch the ep where he died so if someone can fill me in on how James died, that’d be helpful)
Carl Anderton (Law & Order) -- survives
Tate Speer (Law & Order SVU) -- survives
Walter Briggs (Law & Order SVU) -- death by old age/illness
Baxter Cain (Baseketball) -- survives (but, again, his dignity does not)
Mr. White (Recess) -- survives
Vince Deal (The Sentinel) -- survives
Judge Travis (The Magnificent Seven Series) -- alive
Benny Palladino (Hoodlum & Son) -- survives
Albert Stroller (Hustle) -- alive but presumed dead/faked his death
Jacob (Excuse Me for Living) -- alive

Stratton Thoughts (Spoilers After Cut)
Tyler’s swearing in Stratton is not as good as EBWS. haha
The people who gave them weapons training for the movie didn’t worry about trigger discipline.
Hearing him called Marty is so weird. Never felt weird him being called other names in other movies/shows. I think the name is an older-person name.
The cinematography is a lot better than I expected for these UW scenes.
I will nit-pick all the wrong usage of any US Military slang because I can. Nothing so far. Can’t say anything for British stuff, tho.
They did not clear any of those rooms correctly.
Gemma Chan is so pretty wtf is she, that’s not fair.
The reason I’m picky about the trigger discipline is because if you ‘flag’ a friendly by accident you could easily discharge by mistake and wound them.
Tyler looks so fucking good. His lines are a little weird at the beginning; sorta like they tried to give him one-liners.
Omg, Tyler in the uniform is nice af.
The car stunts are pretty slick, always a fan of real stunts.
Oh no...
Oh no... ohh... no.
The drunk scene, lmao.
Oh no... confirmed RIP. Short lived role.
More Gemma Chan! Ugh, she should’ve been in Ghost in the Shell.
I didn’t mention Dom Cooper yet. He’s great, looks great. Tom also looks good, love him as a nerdy/tech type.
Do I ship Marty and Stratton? I do. Can’t stop me now.
Hank, aka Austin Stonewell looks great in dress uniform. MORE UNIFORMS!
Bio-chemical weapons scare, the coolest of threats. Also the bad guy is white, go figure. If this was made in America...
Hank’s last name is Cummings. Am I 12 for a slight giggle?
RIP those kids.
The name of the weapon is Santan(’s?) Snow. 3/10 with rice.
The threat the the man’s family was pretty brutal. Gemma was savage. The actor didn’t seem too panicked. Little weak there.
What, they didn’t imprison him? They just blew up the building they held him in? That made no sense.
That henchman on the couch is Daddy. Well, he’s dead ...so nvm.
It’s the dickpig in me, but I want to see Hank and Stratton go at it furiously. What’s this? Hank just met Stratton’s dad? Practically married.
Oh no, Tom.
The scenes at the base remind me of CSI.
Boat action! Sick!
Tom, leave Gemma alone please.
Hank saving his husband.
Lmao, when the grenade hit the bad-guy the corpse that ragdolled was so bad haha.
Well, that’s the end. Pretty good, can’t find nothing major I didn’t like. Would recommend the whole thing and not just the Tyler bits. TBH
Thanks for reading!
#tyler hoechlin#I love him#the movie was pretty good overall#glad he got to be a part of it#Stratton#Stratton spoilers#not the best action film tho for sure#it seems to be doing okay in reviews

Experts: Spotlight on art is one upside of lockdowns
One benefit of this extended stay-at-home period during the COVID-19 pandemic is a spotlight on the importance of arts in everyday life, experts argue.
Art of all types has proven to be a key outlet for millions of Americans looking for entertainment and fulfillment while isolating, working, and educating at home.
Several weeks of social distancing and lockdown have left many scrambling for ways to keep themselves and their families occupied. With traditional forms of entertainment like movie screenings, sporting events, and concerts unavailable, Americans are turning to the type of art that can be consumed and created in the home.
The arts and COVID-19
With millions now working from home, streaming services like Netflix and Hulu have become entertainment staples. One case in point is the Netflix true-crime docuseries Tiger King, which the streaming service says attracted viewership from about 64 million households worldwide. Music streaming services, e-books, and online gaming have also been key outlets for those seeking entertainment while staying at home.
“I hope when we emerge from our homes, having relied for months on movies, television, music, books, video games, and more to keep us busy, that we will no longer question the need to fund arts programs in our schools and communities,” says Hank Stratton, artistic director of the University of Arizona’s Arizona Repertory Theatre.
“The work of artists from around the world has helped us get through this time, and we owe it to the next generation of artists to make sure they can continue that work.”
Our viewing habits during a historically significant time also reflect what College of Fine Arts Dean Andrew Schulz calls the “afterlife” of works of art. He says the impact of classic movies, books, music, and plays can change based on the circumstances in which people experience them.
“I have enjoyed watching classic films with my family and thinking about how they relate to the present moment in interesting and unexpected ways,” Schulz says. “Alien and Cast Away are two that we recently watched that I found relevant to our present moment. And, of course, there’s Contagion, which has become super popular on streaming services, but that one seems a bit too close to home for me.”
Making art of our own
A drop in entertainment options outside of the house will stoke the creative flame for professionals and hobbyists alike, says Ellen McMahon, associate dean for research in the College of Fine Arts.
“A tremendous amount of creative work will emerge from this disruption, because art originates in personal, often traumatic, experience,” McMahon says. “If we are lucky enough to have quiet time during this shutdown, we should use it as creatively as possible.”
For example, composer Tom Peterson, who is completing a doctoral degree in choral conducting, recently debuted “Quintetto Profano,” which he calls a piano quartet for quarantined musicians.
McMahon says it’s important to remember that creating art can go beyond picking up a paintbrush, musical instrument, or video camera.
“If you’re sewing face masks or gardening or cooking—all of those things are creative activities that develop your sense of yourself, clarify your values, and reinforce the ways you’re connected to the world,” she says.
McMahon adds that art projects can also be beneficial for children who are restless and parents who find themselves acting as home-school teachers for the first time. Imagination and invention thrive, she says, when you don’t have too many structured activities, so free writing, drawing, and other free-form projects can help children develop their creativity.
Art also helps us stay connected with friends and family we can’t be with in person, says Meg Jackson Fox, associate curator for academic and public programs at the Center for Creative Photography.
“We share our day, our experiences and our sentiments through photographs,” Fox says. “Working through photography lends itself to far-reaching conversations, learning opportunities, and social encounters while physically separate.”
Optimism about the future
Like most economic sectors, the arts industry is being hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic because of significant losses from canceled performances, exhibits and other events. However, Andrew Belser, director of the School of Theatre, Film & Television, believes, in time, arts organizations and entertainment venues will make a comeback.
“I honestly don’t think this will lead to the death of the movie theater industry, for example,” Belser says. “There is something irreplaceable about the experience of going to a movie theater. And live theater isn’t going to go anywhere. In time, I think it will come back in a flood.”
McMahon agrees, saying she believes people will no longer take the opportunity to experience art in person for granted.
“I think it will shift people’s appreciation for being in a real space with real art and artists,” she says. “People will relish the idea of going to see an exhibition, live music, a dance concert, or a play. They will realize how much they miss being in a room with other people having a shared experience with the art, the music, or the story as it hits everyone all at the same time.”
