The Tree of Life Doors: A Symbol of Connection and Eternity

One of the most powerful and healing motifs that we find in carvings and paitings is the Tree of Life. This ancient symbol, found in various cultures around the world, also known as the Gaia tree or the tree of dresms represents the interconnectedness of all life, the eternal bond between the physical and spiritual worlds.

Tree of Life doors from India also know as the Kalpavriksha tree is seen carved on walls of temples, palaces, and spiritual retreats. The Bodhi tree is where Buddha became an enlightened soul. The tree usually depicted with expansive branches, filled with leaves, flowers, and birds of paradise or other creatures, all handcarved with exquisite detail. The roots, deeply embedded in the earth, signify grounding and stability, while the branches reaching towards the sky represent aspiration and spiritual growth.

Some of my latest print experiments that are in my Etsy shop currently. I love printing. I made these from rubber block. The register is much better and easier than printing with linoleum. So I’ve opted to use rubber since I don’t have a big press and it’s a lot of work using a baron. If you know you know.

I carved this a while back for the Ad Gefrin Anglo-Saxon museum. With highly stylised Anglo-Saxon imagery this large stone carving is actually the answer to a riddle, I'm yet to find out what the riddle is however.

What I’ve been up to- work in progress!

Testing the waters with a bit of sgraffito after the last attempt cramped my hand. This time it cramped my eyes, but I had a much smaller surface area to cover. I slept very well, thank you. Looking forward to firing this soon!
