𖦹 'The Thrill of Loneliness' is a single written by Hana Stretton. As stated in the title, this song realistically illustrates the feeling of peace and restless despair that is loneliness. Although sought by many, the feeling of being so one with yourself, can be attributed (or very alike to) loneliness. The trial and error of having to face yourself to find peace takes you and you alone, the external influence being only white noise to a self-discovery.

𖦹 This song so beautifully represents the way being with you and you alone truly feels. Almost like a warm, weighted blanket on those cold and dreary days. Yet along with the weight is a constant pull to want more out of such solitude.

Whirlybird - Borough Trash

Whirlybird's Borough Trash has been one of my favourites since I first heard it all the way back in 2020 when it was performed as part of a charity livestream hosted by the band, Lowertown. There's something about this one that feels really bright, yet nostalgic (not in an overbearing way, though) and it never fails to put me in a better mood. It's a solid jam and my favourite lyric has to be "If time makes no sense then, spring forward and fall back again" - I've been buzzing about this line to bascially anyone who'll listen. Whirlybird (like all the musicians on here) deserves so much more recognition than they currently get, so I'd implore you to give it a go if you're into indie rock.

Midtown by Harry Teardrop has been in heavy rotation since it dropped a couple of months ago, loving the sound on this one, there's an interesting mid-section where everything sort of switches up, I always anticipate that part because it goes so hard.

The new Hana Stetton album has been part of my daily morning routine for the last week, it's so calming and I can really picture the landscape in Australia due to the wonderful incorporation of ambient sounds/textures. To be honest, I'd recommend the whole album from front to back, which is why I've linked the bandcamp page. There's a stong folky vibe on this one, but if you're going to listen, do it when you're outside, preferably walking!

A slightly older pair of tracks (released 2021) than what I was originally planning on putting on this list, but I've really gotten into noah's music recently, so I thought I'd add it, theres an ever present lofi (tape?) atmosphere gives everything this warm, fuzzy feeling which I cannot get enough of also the short film is absolutely beautiful!

so captivated by the way hana stretton builds their songs, only way that feels right to describe it is textural, layered and woven so intimately together that they feel like a..... map of a place, or a memory of a place and what happened there - the crunch of brush and dirt beneath your feet, the family dog panting, a relative calling out to you in the distance, hummed lullabies rolling over each other as if you’re in between awake and asleep and time starts to get fuzzy. i want to live in this song!!!! riyl grouper, lomelda, adrianne lenker

Suddenly, I'm seven again, sitting at the doorstep of our old house — a bungalow with a fruit tree overlooking the front. It's a cool summer evening, and the sun has just about disappeared into the horizon. The sky is a grayish blue, and all the neighbours' dogs are barking and whining. I leave the compound unbeknownst to my grandparents and caretaker, and I take a walk around the close, just down to the roundabout where the other children are having bicycle races. The trees are beautiful, and there's a man hole with constant water coursing through. I squat right by it and listen. My mother will be home soon. She'll be upset, as I'm not supposed to leave, let alone unaccompanied. It's dark, and the streetlights are coming on. I look up to the sky, and the stars are beginning to peek out, waving and sending their greetings. Life is good.

tw vent: sui ideation

i am struggling to keep feeling like i have the energy to live on , and even thinking of doing the simple tasks like caring for my body is just too much

i always fall behind, and I’m so tired , I just wanna rest , I don’t know how much strength I have in me left

A day off work feels so unreal honestly, it feels like I'm cheating the system and not being productive and I've gotta realise I don't have to be productive and work all the time (I blame capitalism). But I've been enjoying my relatively digital free day off and just reading.

I also got a lil desk buddy Calcifer who's been keeping me company while working and also watching the video essays I've been watching (if anyone is interested it's this one video essay by F.D Signifier on Spike Lee and African American cinema and yes I am radicalising Calcifer, ignore how dirty the screen is I swear I cleaned it recently)

speaking of reading I recently hit my reading goal of the year which i set pretty low to begin with and now I'm just taking it one book at a time as per the usual. I need to pick up the pace with the non-fiction books but if I read too fast I'm sure I'll blank out on anything I've learnt.
