“Well… it was either Penacony or wait until we reach Thalassa.”

Discomfort or not, they both knew that it was out of the question seeing as the aquatic planet was several galaxies away. While her species could handle periods without nutrition, she figured that it wasn’t the case for her fellow emanator. 

Mali’s antsy behavior surrounding the area had initially struck her as odd, the confident image that she had envisioned of the woman shattering as soon as they entered the atmosphere. How disappointing. Yanfei figured that she would be taking the lead now for this brief landing – even if she’d much rather hideout in some dingy hotel until their departure.

“French fry sundaes, Herring lemon tarts… anything sounding good to you?” She glanced between her phone and Mali with a sympathetic smile. Perhaps it was more feasible to wait until they arrived at their assignment.

"i agree that this stop was somewhat neccessary considering our . . . expertise within the kitchen." the emanator awkwardly shifted within her seat, crimson gaze peering around in an almost paranoid manner. it felt as if one was looking at an unsocialized animal. "i just curse that it was this planet which was the nearest." a sigh. penacony. there was no extreme disdain but to be thrown into a world where so many people resided . . . felt strange. "what do you even eat here?"

“Apart from a few that I’ve haven’t had time to read, yes!” 

Yanfei would always take up the chance to show off her vast collection of books, practically beaming as she guided Aether around her teapot. The space was in good condition for someone that often didn’t use it for months at a time due to work and it was something the advisor clearly took a lot of pride in. It was a rare occurrence now that she’d have any time with the traveler so this seemed like a good way to make it count – plus she enjoyed having around that didn’t seem to mind her jabbering.

“I used to have it categorized by the author in typical library fashion but now it’s organized by genre. Fantasy is by far my most populous section, naturally followed closely by legal policies. Hmm… maybe you should take some with you! Don’t want you getting into trouble overseas again.”

“Not until about five seconds ago… is this about that overdue book? I’ll bring it back in a few days, I promise!” Yanfei was on full alert now and this vague feeling of unease was certainly here to stay – she was already glancing over her shoulder every few moments.  Thank you, Signe.

“This is what you’re thinking about right now?” An unimpressed glance would be thrown his way before she continued to labor away at rewiring the malfunctioning clock. Yanfei wasn’t sure when she had become so fixated on the broken Dream Tickers around Penacony but once again she was on the cement, tinkering away. The mechanics were similar to an old game she used to play years ago – maybe that familiarity was the magnetic pull that kept her coming back. 

Something about the way people would walk right past them also rubbed her the wrong way. It was just another thing about Penacony that she couldn’t stand. Most people rarely acted outside of their own benefit but everyone here did that tenfold, too absorbed in their perfect little dreams to see past the gold. Machines or not, seeing them ‘suffer’ made her uncomfortable and in regards to her own philosophy – You can either help the wounded or put the damn thing out of its misery. 

“To answer your previous question, probably. The whole allure of UFOs is in the mystery of it all, right? If there’s nothing to be curious about, most people wouldn’t give it a second glance.” Yanfei explained once the clock finally boosted its bright lights again. The soothing music emitted from it was the reward for all of that hard work and she couldn’t hide her smile any longer.  

“Also… didn’t they start calling them UAPs? I expected you of all people to know something like that, Caelus.”

(@icicle-dragon) today Yanfei gets a hug from Xue. He just wanted to and was excited to see her. His tail does a happy little swish as he wraps his little arms around her.

She could hear the patter of hurried steps before seeing him, a sound that has become all too familiar. At least Xue didn’t have the strength to knock her over from the impact (unlike a few others that wouldn’t be named lest she wanted them to tackle her next). Yanfei returns the hug with a grateful smile, making a small effort to fix his unruly hair.

“Good morning! Did you need to tell me anything or are you just happy to see me?”
