Did I procrastinate the last week of June and then over the weekend draw up a whole new planning system with it's symbols and compiled it into a 6 page lil booklet for personal reference in the future...possibly....maybe...
Beyond that I started reading The Temple of The Golden Pavilion by Yukio Mishima and it's one of those books that are so hauntingly beautiful from the get go, I can see why it's one of his more popular books.
I still have a lot of stuff to get out of the way, especially when it comes to my project work, luckily with the filofax it's easy to organise tasks and from the get go a pretty efficient ecosystem starts to grow. Granted the only way it can exist is cause I need to have like other things feeding it lol.
Hopefully by the end of the week I'll be able to tick off some major tasks but until then it's just the hamster wheel of work.

My internship is almost coming to an end and my boss gave me a farewell project to end with a bang i.e. I get to let loose with my brain on the project! also he said since I've been one of the more productive weirdos he's had, he gave the ok on working on any future projects even though I am not part of the org anymore. Gonna call it a major w and ride the high
I started reading Hayao Miyazaki's 'book' (its a collection of interviews he's done over the years) and there's something really different about his interviews compared to like Werner Herzog's which granted are in totally different parts of entertainment, Miyazaki's is definitely more inspirational to writers of fantasy, fiction and animation in general. Herzog is more how do you do film making of the real world with the limited tools you have. I'm only on the first couple interviews but I have a feeling it can fill up my commonplace book quite a bit, hopefully in the same way "A horse at night" by Amina Cain did.
Speaking of notebooks I finally got done filling my notebook housing all my notes on philosophy and anything in that realm! I luckily had another notebook on hand and hopefully while I study I can fill up another notebook (which can help with thesis work... hopefully)
I have around 1.5 months before I leave for my masters, and I've been motivated to work harder solely by the student journal started by my department, its nothing major but it's definitely something i want to contribute to when uni does start!

Give it up for the mid-first week of may! (I nearly passed away cause of the heatwave and the rains are finally here which is a blessing !!!) Also peep the stack of books I have that are books I wanna finish before I leave (I am as the people say cooked).
I really did enjoy the book protest and survive that really taught me a lot on the American Nuclear war policy which I call lie and threaten, not that the erstwhile Soviet Union wasn't any better (during the peak of the cold war). But it showed how NATO skepticism wasn't anything new especially back in the 1980s. Nuclear war policy at the time was a mad dash of how much can we store in our nations and balancing sovereign military power and agency of being a country. If you ever snag a copy I highly recommend it if you like reading about people worrying about nuclear war. The latter part of the book has a heavy focus on demilitarization which was really intriguing, cause mainly because I haven't personally come across a lot of texts dealing with that topic.
Other than that I did finish Fanon's On Violence and it was every bit interesting I knew it was going to be, I'm pumped to get to the chapter on national culture. hopefully whenever I get to start Ted Honderich's "Violence for Equality" I have a solid basis to work with.
I am around 25% through with Ilan Pappe's book and I HIGHLY recommend reading it matter of fact read all his work on Palestine for a really good introduction to their liberation struggle!!!
Also before anyone asks yes Calcifer is on a date, and yes he is photo shy.

I have no excuse this time for being an irregular poster lmao, I was swamped with work and tis the season for anxiety striking cause of uni applications. I've been slowly working back towards reading more and being a more productive, post-fracturing my ankle a year ago, it really did take a toll on my productivity and work ethic. But now's the time to prep for the new year and new story arc.
Also, shoutout to my pen pal bestie for sending me that cute ass heart shape tea infuser it's honestly one of the coolest things I use rn and will forever use. Also, yes that is pieces of paper stapled together to be used as notes (got the inspo from a pin on pinterest and they called it used paper-core and ngl I love doing it and saving em too like lil memories and shi)

I have risen from the dead! I swear I say that everytime lol. My past 3 months in Lisbon have been eventful to say the least, I love the people I met from all over the world and in that short time we travelled to soo many different places together and sparked a happy that I think I'm gonna pick up more seriously from now on!
The masters program is such a breath of fresh air compared to my undergrad. Much more challenging but at the same time it's amazing to see the different ways people think and argue their points with their own logic.
I've been working on my blog and have been inspired to write much more than I did back when I was in my gap year and the doors for exciting new opportunities are slowly opening up which I'm excited to talk about once there's been more progress on that front!
Also turns out in Lisbon if you get the library card you get access to soo many libraries and there are more perks like interlibrary borrowing etc and it only took 10mins ✨

It's nearly the end of the month and time is flowing in the worst way possible; on one hand way too quickly but on the other painfully slow. My brain for some reason is unable to process anything fictional right now and that means in my new delulu state I am gonna do the stupid act of focus on non fiction for sometime, is this smart possibly not, is it gonna be fun... definitely not. I think right now engrossing myself in fiction feels like a case of burn out and dedicating myself to getting to know characters and deal with stuff I find excruciatingly painful like romance (aro-ace flux go brr)
reading the stack of non-fiction books tho is helping with inspo, especially writing projects or atleast possible ones. But until then it is just me and my goofy notebooks.
I've been having a whole internal conflict wondering if I should get a traveler's notebook, mainly to house all my commonplace notebooks for random hobbies but at the same time the traveler's notebooks are to a locally made one, both are pretty much the same just one is ''from japan''. I might mull over it until I spontaneously throw my money at random products.

It's been less than a week post moving to a new city and I've found it a lot of fun, it's not been one where I've gotten work done but it's been eventfully uneventful of that makes sense
I've already met some really nice folks and generally been less chaotic than I was back home. I did start another essay and also finalizing my academic blog on notion rather than using WordPress and or wix which is easier to navigate and manage.

Its the end of the month and yall I am straight up exhausted lol, there's still some time before I start uni and that whole new world. I have been stuck reading Karl Polanyi's Great Transformation for a loong time, legit some 4 months because of balancing work and application work. Long story short gonna have to speed-run the book if I wanna finish it on time. Coincidentally it was on my uni reading list soo I think I pulled a lucky oopsie and saved me from reading it once I edit up my notes on that front
Also finishing up Destination Chungking by Han Suyin and Candide by Voltaire by the end of the month so I can be soo insufferable its not even funny.
The last couple books I've been reading mainly chinese authors, cause I found those books at home and some of them are genuinely amazing, the last one I read was At Middle Age by Shen Rong and it really showed me a side of China I never really hear about, especially the overworked middle age folks post Mao's era and during the Deng government.
Destination Chungking is mainly an autobiographical book of the writer when she met and fell in love with her husband before and during the Sino-Japanese war and it's a great historical account of China during that time. I wanna read some of her other works but I have no idea how tough uni is gonna be and balancing reading all the things I wanna read.
I still have quite a bit of packing to do, mainly to undo it and see if I am over packing and if push comes to shove I might just ship it to myself and wait it out, especially the books I wanna take.
P.S if anyone in the studyblr/bookblr community has some places to visit in Lisbon or Portugal in general who have second hand books in English or just highly recommended bookstores it would help a ton!

5/1/24 Happy belated new year! This year is looking out to be an interesting one, partly because its application season for the masters programs and partly because I have ~9 months left for my internship to get done and I gotta be a lil productive gremlin and scope out some future prospects! I plan on gaining some semblance of routine back up and the two important ones is regular reading and sleeping early cause lord knows I really need to fix that lmao. Also hopefully the monthly reading wrap up will be restarting soon this year!!! I am excited once again to get that show on the road.
I plan on emptying out the tbr this year too along with a challenge I put myself up to when it comes to reading, hopefully I can start writing monthly reviews for those books (fingers crossed)!
Finally, I look forward to meeting soo many new people and making more wonderful memories.

Ok I don't have an explanation for my disappearance.... (for now I need to cook up a good lie). I got an internship and got to work on my own paper which is wild. Tho one of them didn't work as indented which sucks cause I was looking forward to working with that professor.
Master's application season is starting soon, and I am both extremely unprepared and excited about it, on one hand it means a whole new chapter of my life (I am constantly listening to Sufjan Stevens as comfort music it's showing everything but excited, I can't lie). But on the other hand, I am mentally not prepared for it lmfao
And in the midst of all that clusterfuck I am trying to catch up on reading that I am ever-behind because...yes...
I'm also trying to figure out the structure of the language notes I take from now on. Because I wanna mark em in different shades of colour pencil so when moving them to Anki I don't have to struggle too much.

6/6/24 Happy Pride month!!! The week has been weeking alright, plus side is I got new headphones and been able to listen to music now without the worry of outside noise, plus it helps when I'm overstimmed so win-win.
I also bit the bullet and got the travelers notebook by a local company and I'm loving each and every moment with it! the company sent a cute lil note telling me that the more its used and worn out the more it'll develop a patina! as for what the notebooks are well I have 2 sorted for my hobbies and one blank. I don't know if I should keep for my thesis work in the future, or to follow Joan Didion's advice of keeping a notebook to just write in (I already have my pretty commonplace notebook for that).
As for the book I was reading it was a collection by E. M. S. Namboodiripad, who was the face of the Indian Left movement for a looong time until his passing. If you're ever interested in post 1980s Indian politics its def a good primer of articles that he wrote for Frontline which was and still is a really good left magazine. On the news of politics we finally saw a fascist get screwed over at the general elections so politics has become interesting again to me (not that it never was), had me and my old man at the edge of our seats the whole time the votes were being counted.

It's the new year well 5 days into the new year I did an oopsie and fractured my ankle and I'm stuck at home free to be a little nerdy gremlin ✨
So my day now consists of reading and trying to write stuff and planning for what I'm gonna do in my post grad and more importantly where I'm gonna do it lol.

So the last week's been interesting, on a whim I applied for an Research assistantship and got it... In hindsight I didn't expect to get but I'll take the universe not kicking me down for once ✨. Also gave me the chance to change up my planning routine and getting into using a filofax for the first time 👀✨
Also dripped out my lihit-lab pouch (I added the kuromi keychain/phone strap to it). The next couple of months are gonna be interesting trying to balance personal writing+ work and planning for my higher studies.
Also getting into a new hobby esp smth like pen-palling is super fun!!! I get letters from people all over the place and I get to decorate cards I send to others, it's a win-win tbh.
As for reading I'm getting back in the groove and I realised reading books by chefs and cooks is such a mental game changer cause they're just soo real with the stuff they talk about before having an orgasm eating a piece of cheese it's pretty funny 😭
