hello vee.
@/twogallonhats on twitter made this iceberg, and now i am subjecting you to this. Explain to the best of your knowledge, good luck.
Tumblr media
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh okay sure
idk why rhyme anima is listed tbh it’s just a zany anime version of hypmic but that very well may be the reason lol like it gave us a man by the name of tom whisper weathercock lol
there’s always a prolific push for your fav to win the drb lol. iirc during the championship round in the 1st drb there was a fan?? fans??? who gave money to some guy with a following to post a video of him asking everyone to vote for mtc lol. jp fans for the second got together and made eng/kor/ch instructions on how to vote in the vr battles it’s a time can’t wait for that to kick off next year 😬
arb is technically not canon and therefore ooc lol
idk what hypmic tictok sounds mean. i can tell you of a few times hypmic was trending on tiktok tho lol
idk if they were even a soundcloud rapper, but some soundcloud rapper fell in love with hypmic and decided to make ichiro his oc/persona and put himself on a team with jyushi and samatoki and they were california division lol
back in 2018???? hypmic posted a christmas video except it was just champagne gold and base hifumi.png in a santa hat slid across the screen truly graphic design is hypmic’s passion lol
i mean there was a brief time there were rp accounts on twt so ig that’s what it
kimura loves black people so much and wants to be black so bad he felt the need to bl@ckface for one of his album drops. fandom asked he take down the posts, he didn’t, fans called him out on it, he blocked them
around the time when there was rumblings that gbr was exiting uhhhhh the eu i think, a dice cosplayer had a video of themselves popping mentos in a coke bottle go viral. someone in british politics used it as a metaphor for whatever stance they had on brexit lol
lol i’m lumping hypstage and hypnama together since i don’t think there’s a real reason they’re listed other than occasionally being points of discussion
hifumi was the original tbh creature
asmr tubers vibe with hypmic characters being their yandere bfs
idk if it’s more than memeing on hitoya but that hitoya card in the pic was clowned on so hard LOL
i couldn’t tell you a specific instance of it but hypmic jank includes frequent misspellings lol
lol i also don’t know if there’s actual controversy behind oridivis besides them getting thanos snapped
*rio voice* curry friday and the mtc seiyuu used to celebrate it lol
there was a collab with some instant curry company (probably called curry meshi lol) and they had the leaders rap a song for it. the songs’ are fun and what’s even funnier is that the song has the leaders sharing this curry and kuukou technically didn’t eat the curry bc it was all gone by the time the cup reached him (and jakurai ate most of it LOL)
i have no fcking clue what weenor busujima is lol
the fact hyprice is a thing is a damn good reason to be here lol. ogs know a hypmic series producer made the joke in 2018 during a hypnama that spawned the concept years later lmao
there was a typo on kuukou’s introductory bio that said he was 68cm LOL
akuma no hana is indeed a song about sex idk what else to tell ya lol
throwback to the hypmic bathtubs they had a live for crazy ass hypmic merch moments lol
the hangout streams are located in this building called mixalive. instead tagging that building’s twt for one of their events, hypnosis flava iirc, they mistakenly tagged a porn twt lol
there was an art trend a few years ago where artists drew their bde faves (and even real people got in on the trend) balancing a shampoo bottle on their big 🍆. ichiro was unfortunately the face of the trend
stage hitoya went viral for that pic used in the iceberg and i had to see randos calling him a two face ass character ONLY HYPMICS ARE ALLOWED TO BULLY HITOYA DAMN YOU
the seiyuu are always getting up to shit backstage lmao tradition is ishiya-san and amasaki-san prowling up on the mtc seiyuu menacingly lmao
if there’s drama or anything of relevance outside of yes stream discords exist, ion know about it lol
a few songs are inspired by/interpolate from other songs. this a normal thing in the music industry (let’s get physical by olivia newton john and physical by dua lipa comes to mind) but hypmic caught a lot of flack for ‘stealing’ from black artists. shinogi dead pools is kendrick lamar’s drank swimming pools bar for bar lol but again, it’s very normal lol the whole kendrick vs drake rap battle that happened this year literally was them using each other’s sound to diss them
some european(?) indie film had an actor wearing ichiro’s jacket
there was a brief trend in jp where they made snow sculptures of their characters as means of attractions and hypmic jumped in on it. it produced the ugliest kuukou known to man he was so unflatteringly scrunckly i loved him LOL
????? bat seiyuu family???? i’m sure what i have in mind is not what they have in mind lol but i mean yeah it’s a running joke that the bat seiyuu consider each other family lol shoutout to sakakihara-san randomly calling hayama-san his ‘onii-chan’ and both hayama-san and sakakihara-san bullying tf outta takeuchi-san by calling him ‘papa’ lol
ariana grande is based about samatoki and there’s proof lol
hypmic vs crsm rap battle was REAL and fumiya wanted to EAT THEM
kamio-san has taken to slapping kuroda-san’s ass and kuroda-san has taken to trying to murder him for it 😌
quite recently lol mtr’s album art was leaked ahead of the hangout stream in a post meant to advertise the fan meeting lol
british dice was a theory i didn’t pay attention to bc i kinda thought just the concept was dumb *wheeze* i think it had something to do with a mistranslation about dice’s father
the rest of that tier i have no fcking clue about lol
in a camera transition during the 9th live, someone’s desktop background was on screen instead of the yknow, livestreaming concert lmao
they got some ddb members to make choreography to move your body til you die!!! i tried i didn’t think it was too bad but the pace of the dance needed to be slowed down eventually lol
if this isn’t poking fun at sensei saying men should automatically know how to rap idk what that is lol
if there’s a trip the mtc seiyuu have taken that stands out from the others, i don’t know about it lol
the hypmic cafe that’s going on rn have these stickers??? standees??? for sale and someone stole all of samatoki’s LOL

If your first instinct when watching/reading/seeing something about bullying, body shaming, and suicide is to laugh and boast, then there's nothing I can do or say will change your deranged mindset. The best I can do is to block and hope others won't have the same mindset. I got this type of reply on Twitter most of the time but on Tumblr? It looks like a Twitter rejection or something:
```
Tumblr media
```
When I wrote that post based on the news article, I mostly focused on the danger of bullying. Hana Kimura is a well-known wrestler who killed herself after she was bullied by her so-called fans and also body-shamed. I also wrote about other wrestlers, and not just from AEW but from other companies.
I thought that by doing so, people would know how a bit obtuse what a certain wrestler said about body shaming. It's one thing to say that he doesn't care that people shaming him, it's another thing that he said that he supports it and how it affects others.
If your first instinct is to laugh and say that AEW is losing to WWE and we made up stuff to "win", then maybe you are not a fan of wrestling or decency in general. You're the one who glazed over the topic and made it into something else. If you think that when suicide matter is not important enough compared to your favorite company and wrestler, then please, on everything holy, refrain yourself commenting on other people's blogs/posts. I don't care what you write on your own blog, because chances are I won't see it. After all, you're blocked.
So please, block me if you think that bullying is acceptable and suicide is okay - because I always feel that Tumblr at least has some leftover safe space for everyone who has a heart. Even in a wrestling world, be a decent fan and human.

I'm seeing that Sean Ross Sapp reported that Kenny Omega is hospitalized for diverticulitis.
Unfortunately, I can't find the report anywhere on Sapp's website. Fightful only mentions the report, indirectly, by way of reporting that Kenny responded to some idiot that said he deserved to get diverticulitis.
I thought Sapp might have just tweeted the news, but when I searched Twitter I just found other people saying Kenny deserved to contract a life-threatening illness. One said he deserves it because he's a groomer. I have no idea where that's coming from.
Amid all of this, I keep seeing people acknowledging that, well, at least this means the Golden Jets are done. Because they hated Kenny teaming with Chris Jericho. Because those fans have decided it's okay to wish ill upon Jericho, for assorted reasons that don't actually justify wishing ill upon anyone.
So listen. I'm sure you believe you have valid reasons to think the wrestler you hate is so monstrous that it's okay to be monstrous towards them. But then, so did the people who hated Hana Kimura. You can split hairs about which wrestlers really deserve it, as if that makes a difference. But the point is how this behavior reflects upon you, not the object of your self-righteous fury.

Has that T*te guy ever think that perhaps he doesn't see or hear asians complaining about what has happened to them because they do it in their own languages? That he cannot understand? lmao. lol even.
Girl, there's literally #noBarbenheimer trending on japanese twitter because they are mad at Westerners meme'ing the atomic bomb 💀
This rightoid narrative of them them good Asians/japanese NEVER complained about shit they're so based is so frickin stupid!!! I'll talk about Japan because that's a foreign online scene that I know quite well, but saying that Japan is somehow less prone to cancel culture and public outrage is absolutely stupid and shows that anyone saying this never checks for Japanese media. It's obvious they don't lurk around japanese SNS were netizens are extremely cruel and prone to cancelation - and yeah, language barrier definitely plays a role.
There's no wonder that Japan had recent celebrity suicides that are imputed to online hate (Hana Kimura, Ryuchell....). It's so bad that they passed a law to regulate this stuff, but nooooo them great japanese never get mad for shit and are too good to pass AnTifReDoM laws preventing people to say whatever they want online 🤡 WHERE IS MUSK WHEN YOU NEED HIM??
sorry but getting mad at the war crime will always make more sense then harassing a TV reality chick, but Tate and his like wanna act like the former was too 'woke'. Isn't repeatedly telling a TV reality chick to kill herself on her SNS because you don't like her a sign of modern decadence which I thought them Conservatives hated?🤔
Do they know japanese netizens turned on Ryuchell for getting a TATTOO? When Ayumi Hamasaki started having dance routine in her MV (in "Real Me") they clowned her too.... Japanese can be extremely vicious and judgmental at times - sometimes much more than Western netizens. Them "good based japanese uwu" rightoids and pickme Asians overestimate their tolerance because japanese don't freak out about the same topics... Like- yeah japan won't cancel you for being a rapist and a pedophile (hi Watsuki Nobuhiro!) sO baSed right???

Week 4
Reality TV and social media
Tumblr media
Reality TV is defined as 'a genre that is designed to elicit talk and shared opinions' (Deller 2019: 153). What the audience sees on screen is natural human behavior and interaction, which leads them to critique the content, participants, and authenticity. Recently online platforms such as blogs, web comments, and especially social media have been popular places for talk and discussion. On Twitter, not only the viewers but also the official accounts of the program, presenters, and participants tweet while watching the program live.
Reality TV provides humour, and the audience uses humour in the discussion by using gifs and memes, which can extend the life of the reality show by remaining in the audience’s memory.
Tumblr media
Participants in Reality shows are expected to have their Social media accounts before the show starts to contribute to the popularity. Having an SNS account can also extend their fame after the show. The audience can have access to behind-the-scenes or untold stories through social media accounts. However, there are also drawbacks such as participants getting nasty comments from the audience.
It is important for reality TV performers to keep a good balance between being celebrities and amateurs. Even though participants engage in celebrities-like activities, they should be the same as the audience’s impression during the show.
Reality televisions are popular whether we like it or not and they will be as important TV programs as documentaries, sitcoms, and news.
As discussed in the article by Deller (2019), participants having social media accounts can negatively affect them. Deller (2019: 162) writes by using the opinion of Paul Kelly that 'Viewers can be quick to forget that the comments they make online are about real people, and that those real people may well see the comments and be genuinely affected by them'. Hana Kimura, a professional wrestler, committed suicide at the age of 22 after participating in a Japanese reality show called Terrace House (McCurry 2022). She was severely cyberbullied after a quarrel with another contestant was broadcasted. The reality in reality TV is not real. Campbell (2018) states that the “reality” is dramatized and a storyline is already set up beforehand. McCurry (2022) wrote that Hana’s mother claimed that production companies intentionally staged and edited the scene to depict Hana as a villain. Communication or comments on participants’ SNS accounts can lead to the worst outcome both for participants and reality TV programs.

Kyoko Kimura, Hana’s mom, after the funeral, as translated by @/KarenNerdsOut on Twitter:
“Today, we sent Hana off on her next journey. She looked like she was simply sleeping so beautifully that everything felt like a lie, but so many people truly loved Hana that I believe everyone’s feelings reached her. There is no way Hana feels lonely anymore. Please continue to love Hana and send her your love.”

Hana Kimura, Terrace House, and Japan
I can’t sleep with all this thinking and crying and thinking about this needless tragedy. Time to break it down and rest for the day. Trigger warning for cyberbullying, self-harm, suicidality.
1. Who was Hana Kimura?
Official intro: A 22-year old, half-Cambodian half-Japanese female pro wrestler who joins Terrace House in episode 30 of the 2019/2020 Tokyo season. Her mother is also a pro wrestler.
What happened: She passed away on 5/23/2020, official cause is not announced but suicide is strongly suspected based on her final 24 hours of social media posts, which respond to the torrent of criticism on social media directed towards her after recently aired drama.
Impressions:
Cute, bubbly, super smiley
Innocent, naive, inexperienced at relationships
Bold, straightforward, ambitious, proactive
On the grapevine: :
She recently was self harming
Minimal social contact as her work life was on hold due to coronavirus (wrestling, terrace house)
A lawsuit is underway
2. What is Terrace House?
Premise: An “unscripted” Japanese reality TV show following 6 young cohabitating housemates, typically 3 males and 3 females.
Content: The camera crew comes to film a few times a week, pull out juicy clips, get commentary from their 6-person (now 5-person) host panel, then air select segments in the official episode. Some off-camera events are potentially reenacted on filming days. Some of the unused clips are published on the internet.
Host panel: They play out imaginative scenarios, coo over cute scenes, or skewer the cringey ones. In several instances they have tried to temper excessive social media criticism against certain housemates, such as Hana.
History: 11 seasons currently out, the latest 2019/2020 in partnership with Netflix. Followed and commented on very closely in Japan, with rising popularity abroad.
3. What were the cyberbullies saying??
I don’t follow Japanese Twitter and Instagram, and reportedly people have been deleting their posts out of fear for legal action.
At the end of the day she was just a girl who wanted to be liked -- and the antis attack anything in sight (short, well-built, dark-skinned, mixed race, wrestler, bold, outspoken, KY/kuuki yomenai)
4. What’s next at Terrace House?
They’ve suspended unaired episodes starring Hana -- these were supposed to start airing on 5/25/2020 on Japanese Netflix. This is out of respect for the family, and perhaps to protect against legal action.
A select few comments on Japanese Twitter say that the episodes should be aired anyways -- these types of people exist no matter where you are in the world.
5. Personal Rant: take with salt
Negligence: Despite intentions, management of Terrace House appears to be dangerously negligent, outdated, and insufficient when it comes to the health and perceptions of the housemates. It was only a matter of time before something happened, and it would be unwise to continue the show as is. I’ll be following the legal developments.
Inclusion: I can’t help but wonder if Netflix or the TH producers were pushing too hard for a diverse, boundary-breaking cast that mainstream Japan simply wasn’t ready for
Cyberbullying: occuring in a virtual and ethereal space where sticks, stones, and words can’t hurt the assailant and apparently there are no consequences for your actions. It needs to be criminalized if not penalized.
Misconceptions on suicidality: not specific to Terrace House commentators or Japan, but people may assume that those at risk for suicide are all sad, depressive, or even lethargic. There’s this glorified image of someone sinking into a bed of despair until they inevitably fall asleep, which is incomplete in practice. Suicide attempts seem to occur at a lowered threshold for suicidal ideation, combined with a catalytic event or excessive energy that prompts action -- someone like Hana could have red flags CONCURRENTLY with her smiley, bubbly impression. For another crude metaphor, it’s like a rubberband snapping.
6. Last Rant: Japan is a real, live country.
You can love the country/culture WITHOUT keeping it on a pedestal. Not here to nitpick on Japan, just to list a few weaknesses to balance out the strengths (which seem to be exclusively reported on abroad)
Racism: They’re relatively insular but not as homogenous as some people think, and there is certainly an element of ethnic pride. Ie) Being mixed-race in Japan is associated with childhood bullying.
Feminism: Arising from traditional culture and language, female equality in Japan is currently not a role model to follow. Won’t say more, there’s also a ton to unpack here.
Politeness: Compliance with social standards doesn’t mean there aren’t any poisonous thoughts, ready to manifest in places like social media.
Science: Especially in light of the recession, many are concerned that torch of innovation has long been passed to neighbors like South Korea or China.
Another fun fact that I came across in my work: Japan only allowed live-organ donation as of 2010 (with many restrictions, despite severe organ shortage). Not a pick for world-class.

From what I heard, it can be a fend for yourself mentality when it comes to this issue.  That needs to change.  It says possible legislation may happen.  It all depends on what legislation may happen.  I can see how regulations that gives authorities the ability to control content on social media might have push back. Changing legislation that would expedite the process of identifying anonymous posters is one thing that can be done.  I don't know if they could have it where they could get IP addresses and locate the people cyberbullying.  Tech companies don't usually give that out.  But in serious cases such as this, they should give.  It will be interesting to see where this goes. Twitter has said, yet again, that they will do something.  Considering their long history of cyberbullying, abuse, harassment, etc., I don't hold onto hope that they will do anything.  What they've claimed to have done in the past hasn't addressed the core issue.  In the past, they've rolled out features that allow things to be filtered out.  Basically you have to be actively searching for this kind of thing.  If you have those filters in place, it only hides it.  It doesn't do anything to help fix the problem.  It's as if they are sweeping it under the rug.  Even I though I am not holding on to hope, a part of me wants them to be serious and actually do something.  But it's a little hypocritical and convenient that this had to happen before they addressed the issue again. "Yahoo Japan has said it would share its technology with other social media to detect abusive posts, and launch a review panel including legal experts this month."  Again, it took the death of Hana Kimura for them to offer to help.  Maybe I shouldn't be so cynical.  At least their stepping up don't any of this to be done in vain. Hana and many others in Japan who were targeted online need this.  They need more to be done so others don't have to go through the same thing.  On the first episode of NWA Girl Powerrr, they made a good point.  Hana was still so young (22-years-old) and she wasn't ready for the abuse she faced online.  It's very sad it ended the way it did.  Again, I have hope change comes. It's what needed.  Rest easy, Kimura-san.
-Mr. C.C.
