She is one of the two people from the main cast to become a constellation (god-like beings living off stories). She spearheads the attempts to rescue the one person who matters most to her, even when it is impossible. Even when everyone else has given up years ago. She dooms whole universes and all their people for her one person. She sacrifices everything.

Submission: She is everything! She doesn't get enough screen time in the novel, but that proves just how amazing she is to make such an impression in spite of it. She is a great big sister, to both her brother Wen Ning and the protagonist Wei Wuxian. She is stern but kind. She's a doctor. She throws needles at people. She's everything!

I think if Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu had a kid they would keep the surname "Wen" and for the first name I could see them using Zhou Zishu's fake name/nickname, "Xu" — like with "Mian Mian" in the The Untamed.

These characters are So Tired guys. Most of them aren't the protagonist (with one notable exception), but the protagonist would probably have died a long time ago without them.

Not that it stops them disobeying orders and getting out of bed anyway.

Please give some love to the unsung heroes of drama, the doctors! They are this close to breaching medical ethics and doing something drastic to make their patients rest.

The Wen refugee camp has grown to include a few more people than just the Wens - people from all walks of life, seeking shelter or safety, have joined the little settlement, building their own homes and bringing their own skills and stories to add to the community.

One of the newcomers is a pregnant young woman, Han Yuxi. She fled her abusive husband and has since lived with Grandmother and A-Yuan, her pregnancy under Wen Qing's careful supervision.

This has greatly roused A-Yuan's interest. There is a baby in Yuxi-jie's belly? But how did it get there? Who put it there? Will it be a boy or a girl?

Wei Wuxian takes just a bit too much pleasure watching Wen Qing fumble around the answers as he and Lan Wangji weave baskets to sell radishes and medicinal plants in the city.

"You know, I used to be just as curious as a child." Wei Wuxian says, "One of my favorite street merchants had a daughter who became pregnant and I kept asking her how that happened."

Lan Wangji smiles. "You still are very curious. And inquisitive."

"At least now I know where babies come from!" A laugh, "But back then, the merchant's daughter told me that, in order to have a baby, one should go swimming in the lotus lake and find a baby spirit asleep in the lotus flowers. If it lets you hold it, then it means it loves you and so you will become pregnant."

"A beautiful story."

"It is, but me, being me, took it very literally and looked for baby spirits for weeks. I wanted one too! Shijie had to very gently explain to me how things actually go, I was so disappointed!"

Lan Wangji can't help himself from laughing, imagining the scene. With the way his childhood had been, Lan Wangji is always surprised by how many funny stories he has to tell.

"Well, not much has changed since then." Wei Wuxian says, and elbows Lan Wangji suggestively. "I still want to be pregnant."

"Haven't you been already? With A-Yuan?"

It's Wei Wuxian's turn to burst out laughing, and just for a moment, Lan Wangji wishes he'll hear it forever.

i'm doing something a little different for my event prep-- because i'm on hiatus the rest of the month, i don't really have the ability to do much reaching out to plot (though if you pop into my dms unprompted to plot, feel free, as i'll definitely get back to you to chat when i'm able) and i need to make sure i keep my threads to a manageable number. but i still want to be able to be active during the event when i can! especially since other threads will be paused!

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) Masterpost

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) is a Vocal synth (Vocaloid and SynthV) music project. It consists of songs themed around different figures throughout Chinese history. The project is a collaboration between different artists and creatives, with music and videos featuring prominent traditional Chinese elements. The project's title translates to "The Records of Magnificence of the Wangchuan" - In Chinese mythology, "Wangchuan" (or River of Forgetting) is a river in the Underworld that can rid one of their past life's memories, similar to the river Lethe.

A mobile game adaptation has also been developed by NetEast. Unfortunately, I haven't played it so I can't give much insight on it. However, I assume that its premise is similar to that of the idea behind the project as a whole: all these historical figures meeting each other in the Underworld after they died. Maybe.

What are your opinions on The Untamed? I got into MDZS by stumbling upon the donghua whilst the first season was premiering and devoured fan translations of the novel and kept up religiously with the manhua. I found out I think a year and a half ago that a live action existed and tbh, I'm not that interested. I think it's because of all the changes I've heard were made to the story and the themes and tbh, I'm not very into the graphics 😅 But my primary gripe is it supposedly not being a faithful adaption and instead a very loose one. Since on Ao3 it's somehow impossible to escape the grasp of The Untamed and I've seen so many silly fanons floating around accepted as canon due to the influence of CQL, my feelings towards it are even less generous. So many fans take CQL as the canon story instead of the novel, and its like we've read two different stories, because in many ways, we have. Still, Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan look gorgeous, and so do the rest of the cast so I'm a bit torn.

I LOVE the Untamed! (I say as I write up essays on why it's dumb and ruined themes and STUPID)

I only recommend it as a VERY loose retelling of what Mo Dao Zu Shi is. The Disney Ariel to the Hans Christen Anderson unrequited gay love letter to the world. So to speak. My one glowing compliment to it is that thankfully after fan pushback, the director, Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo were able to give us the scenes that stood out finally. And probably why we get the whole "Uncut" version of it that is solely focused on their scenes alone.

I don't recommend it as the first foray into the MDZS universe as it changes about all points of importance for a sanitized story. Themes and arcs are vastly lacking in the Live Action that the novel closes very neatly. Don't get me started how pairing Jiang Cheng with Wen Qing makes him EVEN MORE of an asshole regarding the entire Wen massacre and him letting her be burned to death. And somehow despite being an equal love story to the canon on screen Jiang Yanli/Jin Zixuan and the implied Wangxian, that just gets dropped from relevance??? BAD WRITING YANG XIA.

A lot of people of course came to fandom from the Untamed as of 2019, the book was very niche since it originally finished in 2016 and was issued physically and officially by Pinsin in 2018. A year before the Untamed aired. It was culturally a HUGE DEAL... due to it being danmei and so known as being such for it to be such a cashcow. But not for the West. For the West it was one of the biggest things since probably Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon for the genre of Xianxia and Wuxia to be renewed as an interest, or spotlighted once more. But a lot of its initial spark was because it was such an inversion of the usual standard xianxia and wuxia tropes. It places emphasis on the human of the genre over the fantasy.

CQL, tried to make it more in line with typical xianxia and wuxia out there. Doesn't quiet work as well when you have the original source turning all of these tropes and character arc expectations around and the Live Action drops those essentially for on air compliance.

The good the bad, can't be taken as the same between either because the intentions were different. Thematics cannot be scrubbed out from the original and the adaptation claimed to be the true source. The book is what the original intention was for, and worked. Sometimes adaptations lose out the canonical intention of the original but it is not the be end of it when it was reproducing what is already there.
