I was supposed to be home at midnight. I was supposed to be home at midnight. I was supposed to be home at midnight. I was supposed to be home at midnight.
(Currently living the full Deutsche Bahn experience)
(Meaning one stop. One. Stop. Before my stop. Six minutes before we arrived at said stop. They suddenly. Just. Said. "nah not today. Train ends here now.") (No explanation given)(Just a "Informationdesk is open until midnight)
(Currently sitting in a random bus that doesn't even go to my destination. But the only way to get close to my home. So. I'm driving in a random bus that has no signs. To a town. That isn't mine. For like. An hour. Just to go another hour. From the town I don't want to be in. To my town.)
I was supposed to be home at midnight. I was supposed to be home at midnight. I was supposed to be home at midnight. I was supposed to be home at midnight.

if the conclusion to russell’s ‘pantheon arc’ will be that the doctor eventually gets named the ‘god of life’, i’ll be so disappointed. that’d feel so cheap and underdeveloped, and factually inaccurate since he’s more linked to death and endings than anything. if he has to be the ‘god of’ some conceptual domain (i dislike that phrasing anyhow, it’s simplistic, but that’s just a personal pet peeve), it should be either of the following:
god of change (central theme of the show)
god of hope (my personal favourite contender)
god of stories (lol, yeah, I KNOW. it works, ok?)

Can we just take a moment to realize just how screwed up Halt's apprenticeship was?
First things first, the fact that it was probably only about 2.5 years at most. According to timelines that I have seen worked out by others, and have worked out myself, Halt probably would have been a few months after his 15th birthday when he met Pritchard, and it's pretty bold to assume that they started training together the day they met. When Halt left Clonmel, he said he was around 17 and a half, so that's maybe 2 years of training. Not to mention the fact that he wasn't even living with Pritchard at the time and was also learning how to rule a country. He probably didn't receive much one-on-one training from the renegade rangers, but I could believe that Pritchard picked up the slack again once they met up. But then Pritchard dies. And then Halt gets his silver oak leaf.
what.
But wait, there's more! Not only did Halt receive absolute minimal training time, but he didn't have the proper equipment either. TEY talks about how the only proper equipment he had was a bow, and that everything else was pretty much jury rigged (like his double scabbard). He didn't even get to start training with a proper ranger horse until months after the very end of his official training. He most likely had to practice with either the closest equivalents to ranger tools or Pritchard's sets.
When you really think about it, Halt probably had to learn most of his skills on the job without backup in Redmont.
But, it gets worse.
You may say, "But Void, how can it get any worse?" and I'll tell you.
There are a few events whose timelines have to be adjusted due to Flagagank's inability to remember his own character's ages (*cough cough* Halt's time with the Temujai *cough cough*), and this means that a lot of the really important missions that Halt was sent on early in his career that are mentioned throughout the books - such as stealing the Temujai horses and taking down whoever that one guy with the mace was - all took place as Halt was still trying to make up for the gap in his training.
Let's put a little perspective on it.
Imagine Will for a minute. Now imagine that he didn't start his training for a good 6 months after Choosing Day, and that he didn't live with Halt, but rather with Baron Arald. At the same time he's training with Halt, he's learning how to do Arald's job, while also fending off assassination attempts. Now, a little under halfway through Will's training, make him leave the country and shove him into an active war situation. He and Halt don't get to meet up until about a year later. Then a few months after that, Halt gets McFucking Murdered. Then, make Will a full-fledged ranger and assign him to a fief.
That's exactly what happened to Halt.
Bro.
It's no wonder he's always so hard on his apprentices. Man has no idea what a normal apprenticeship looks like, he was making shit up as he went
Edit: I think Tumblr ate my posts, so we're trying again to see how it goes

seven sentence sunday
I see everybody brought out all the big guns this week. There are so many smut-adjacent snippets on my dash that my phone is overheating.
That is decidedly not what I have done. 🤣 But have one last little taste of TiMER fic, which I hope like hell to finish soon. Thanks to @cold-blooded-jelly-doughnut, @heartstringsduet, @rmd-writes, @carlos-in-glasses, @orchidscript, @strandnreyes, @alrightbuckaroo, @tellmegoodbye (welcome!), and @never-blooms for the tags.
The words reach through the red veil of anger that has settled over him, pierce a pinprick that lets the pressure bleed out of his pores like a leaking balloon, and TK slumps in on himself, head feeling too loose on his shoulders. "I just," he starts, and stops, hoping Carlos can hear the apology and the absolute truth and all the ways he wishes the world were different. "I really love you." Carlos pulls in a breath, the play of his face painful to watch — the tight smile he musters, flat and fleeting, that's so at odds with the sadness in his eyes. But he takes a step forward, forever fearlessly reaching out for TK even though they're not meant to hold on. "None of this means you don’t," he says softly, swiping a thumb over the ticking timebomb on TK's wrist he's always trying so hard not to touch. "It just means that one day you’re meant to love someone more, and I have to love you enough to let go."
It's late and y'all have been busy, so consider this an open tag for anyone who still has words (smutty or not!) to share.

This cold I have has been kicking my ass for 8 days straight (I haven’t been able to talk for 6 of them).
I thought about writing that popular trope of depowered HL gets a cold for the first time in his life and thinks he’s going to die, but it’s too close to home, and he’s done nothing to deserve that kind of punishment.

gordo and his radio < /3
rewatching ryan’s story is like watching a train wreck in slow motion
cameron calling donna the nicest woman on the planet - lol even I, the president of donna’s fan club, would not call her that
on one hand gordo is soooo insufferable in these early meetings, on the other hand he was kinda blackmailed into being here so 😂
donna doesn’t know if she wants to fuck annabeth gish or be her (it’s both)
cameron not being able to let go and delegate anything... what's the worst that could happen

Fat Man on a Beach (HTV, 1974)
"I'm going to read some more poems now. Erm. It may be that if you want to go and have a cup of tea, this would be a good time. I know that's what you masses are like. The mention of poetry and off you go."
#fat man on a beach#b.s. johnson#classic tv#documentary#htv#michael bakewell#aled vaughan#a frankly incredible and truly unique piece of television. according to Johnson's biographer‚ the novelist Jonathan Coe‚ this film was#described in tv listings at the time as a documentary about Porth Ceiriad‚ a rather beautiful beach on the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales#it.. is not that. i can only imagine the baffled reactions of an idle audience tuning into HTV in 1974. true‚ this is entirely filmed at#Porth Ceiriad‚ but any element of travelogue (or even really of documentary) is dispelled almost immediately: the first lines heard are#those of an unseen narrator who tells us we are about to watch a film about a fat man on a beach. 'Do you really want to watch that?' he#asks incredulously. it's a challenge‚ the first of several from Johnson‚ who spends the next 40 minutes variously pottering about the sands#mugging to the camera‚ reciting poetry (his own and others; literary and dirty) and baring his soul. I've never seen anything quite like it#I'm not sure that much has been made that is quite like it tbh. Johnson was a fiercely original‚ brilliant mind; he was a novelist#a poet‚ a critic and a filmmaker. he was also‚ when this first aired on uk tv‚ dead. a few weeks after completing filming on this‚ his#final work‚ he sadly took his own life. i mention it not as a grim factoid but because it is a vital contextualisation of this film; the#play has been described before (and play is not the right word) as a sort of loose form manifesto from Johnson‚ a laying out of his own#peculiar philosophies and interests in a disjointed manner‚ peppered with asides and distractions and filming mishaps (all kept in the#final product). for me‚ the feeling was inescapable that this was like viewing a suicide note. whether Johnson had already come to some#conclusion on that front or not‚ the fact is that his own obsession with morbidity‚ with the spectre of death and of decay (it runs right#through his work‚ particularly his work in film) transforms this into something almost confessional. there's a section of the film where#the author recalls witnessing the aftermath of a traffic accident‚ a motorcyclist thrown through wire fencing and sliced like cheese#the absurdity of the comparison is lingered on‚ Johnson almost stalls and appears to lose his train of thought (briefly discussing instead#the modern mass production of cheese) but he also seems clearly affected‚ delivering the tale in a halting‚ reverent tone#not that this is all darkness and gloom; it's just as often funny‚ or surreal (the film frequently cuts away to a bunch of bananas‚ only#later explained by one of Johnson's biographical recollections) and includes visual puns‚ bad jokes and a few moments of physical comedy#the writer doesn't seem distressed. rather‚ he seems... if not at peace‚ then as though he has come to terms. confident in his own beliefs#and ideals. but perhaps that's reaching too far‚ or reading in what the viewer wishes to read in. the sad fact is that Johnson took his own#life‚ but he left us with a body of work unlike almost anything else‚ and which is still being celebrated and analysed today. rip bsj

Big shout-out to my parents for helping me through this latest autistic burnout (they don’t know I’m autistic but that’s still what it was). My mom came and sat in my room while I was sitting on the floor, listening to sad music and crying (I was perfectly fine doing that) and talked to me. She kept asking me what was wrong, what might have caused it, what she could do to help, how to go forward from here. It was kind of annoying but I’m glad she did it. She just kept reminding me that God loves me and I know he does, I’m just too tired. My dad just sat by me and hugged me. I love both of them very much, no matter their faults, and am extremely grateful to them for helping me through this. Also shoutout to Bach for writing the cello suites. Those have always helped me fall asleep.

it's a frustrating challenge re: the potential of phasing out Louis bc I won't be interested enough to watch the show without him, but if there's a significant drop of interest after people realize he's out of the narrative then it might seal the fate of the show, which I think is already tenuous bc of AMC's financial situation, and we won't get to see Jacob return to the role in the future (if that's something he'd be interested in) :(
