I just can't get Halsins confession scene out of my head. The way his voice is so quiet and soothing, the sound of the crickets in the background, his big eyes round and full of fear but he's pushing through it because tav is worth it.

He's travelled everywhere and seen things it would take lifetimes for other people to see but you - you helped him find himself again. A third (or more) of his life has been spent dealing with politics and curses, defending nature and currying favor with Silvanus to protect his childhood friend - you're the first person who truly gave him the freedom he wanted, you're the one who helps him find a purpose after *350 years* of wandering and dealing with other people's problems.

And he is *terrified* of fucking this up. Every word he speaks has been practiced carefully, recited, every angle considered, he is upfront, honest, and forward.

Halsin isn't a risk taker, he has a history of waiting for things to happen, biding his time until the right moment. It's how he wound up in captivity for 3 years, got captured by goblins (likely also planning on biding his time until the right opportunity) because he doesn't really feel time moving the way others do. What's a few months or years of captivity?

Until he meets you. You're a risk he's willing to take. He doesn't want to wait anymore. He wants to know now if he can dare ask for more. You have quite literally changed his life and turned it upside down, and for the first time in literal centuries, he can make choices for himself and this is the choice he wants to make.

He doesn't fall in love easily but he has fallen and he's fallen HARD

this man's whole world gets flipped when you help him. he can live again, he's worry free. he's attracted to you at first, but if you help with his childhood-fey-friend, he falls hard for you.

you know. on reflection, halsin is great, right. he's a champion for the downtrodden, he's kind, etc. i have romanced him once. his kiss animations are very cute. and i keep waiting to think 'damn he's really attractive actually' and i just don't. idk what it is. his voice is the best thing about him (thanks dave you legend.) idk. i can take him or leave him i guess.

This is loosely based on current UK resources, not 70’s-80’s, and I also don’t know how well a nuanced situation like this would be dealt with by our gov/councils. I don't have much faith in the systems but we're gonna pretend they work.

In all seriousness, it genuinely just breaks me that Halsin doesn't really perceive or feel time because he's a very long-lived race. 6 months passes by in a blink for him. Until he makes friends and falls in love, of course.

It's just got me thinking about the loneliness of trauma and how responsibilities, taking care of others, being laser-focused on a goal he might never meet, has probably passed his time faster than he would have liked.

Being in survival mode for so long I have to wonder how much time Halsin spends just decompressing after the events of the game. It's also made me think that maybe the first act he's so distant because it's the first time in a century he has hope and doesn't have the grove to worry about, the poor man is just Processing everything.

Anyway I'm just having feelings about this. Idk if this is anything.

Gale was isolated from most mortals and spent a year in near-total isolation in his tower

Wyll had been traveling basically solo as the Blade of Frontiers since he was kicked out of the Gate a teen

Astarion spent two centuries getting tortured and isolated by Cazador

Lae’zel might have had a better social life, but comes from a culture that devalues physical and emotional tenderness/closeness

Halsin spent the last century obsessing over the shadow curse

No wonder all these people are out here going feral for the first person (Tav) that shows them kindness/softness/physical touch/protection

「The Pale Bat」- Part 2

Summary: The bat is in good care, and Halsin tells Astarion some...interesting things about bats, while Karlach goes into protect mode.

Finally, here is the continuation of The Pale Bat! There will be more updates, but I think once I’m done with this current emotion-heavy beginning(sorry not sorry) it will soon become more of a slice of life type of comic, just little stories of the party and the bat. Got a little carried away at the end there, but I just thought I had to give Astarion’s story some justice, so I did.

Also please forgive me if the bat informations are incorrect, I just pulled them out of thin air, and feel free to throw correct bat-facts at me in the ask-box or just ask about the comic! Hope you enjoy this update, and stay tuned for more ;)
