Starship Saturday — Rothen-pattern fireship
Tumblr media
Capable of delivering blows far exceeding its mass, the Rothen were committed to long-range fleets and security detail on the periphery of Covenant space. Their crews were often filled by those who committed crimes in the Covenant.

sorry but the whole "aziraphale keeps a gun inside a hollowed out book" is THE BIGGEST missed opportunity ever to do a LITERAL Chekhov's Gun I'm so mad about it can you imagine if in episode 6 when they're fighting the demons in the bookshop and they run out of encyclopedias to throw and they're completely out of options instead of exploding his halo aziraphale just pulls a pistol out of a book and starts fucking shooting them

The Previous World Mural — a dreamscape transposition of The Next World Mural to somewhere, somewhen else.
The gif compressed the images but I will also post them as a clearer image set, to be linked in a reblog.
Excerpt of accompanying ficlet below. Decided to just post the segment of it I've finalised since I won't have the time to work on it for a very long while.
artblog @chromacandescent
kofi | inprnt 🪻🌷🌹
Excerpt:
You stand on an unfamiliar street, across a familiar mural. The pavement is dimly lit, blue warring with orange between the shadow and light. The streets are populated with faceless shadows. The sky, indistinguishably and eerily hazy, holds the morning moon and the dawning sun distantly together. The world is fading… smearing at its edges.
PERCEPTION — The mural is the only thing you recognise here, depicting featureless silhouettes: one in white paint, engulfed by one in black. They are lovers leaning together, heads meeting in a kiss. A circle of red paint forms a halo around their heads, enclosing that moment of tenderness.
CONCEPTUALIZATION — Despite being close enough to melt into one, the lovers remain distinct, separate, impossibly apart.
REACTION SPEED [Medium: Success] — Like The Next World Mural, from your ledger.
PHYSICAL INSTRUMENT — Wasn't that one about a man and a woman?
Is *this* Grand Couron?
Is this... the next world?
YOU — Is this... the next world?
INLAND EMPIRE — No. A previous world…
PREVIOUS WORLD MURAL — True love remains impossible. We are not new people.
PAIN THRESHOLD — There is no escape.
VOLITION — But you can, and you have started anew.
PERCEPTION — Either way, the silhouettes *are* too ambiguously rendered to belong to the Next World Mural, so…
YOU — "I've never seen you before… have I?"
PREVIOUS WORLD MURAL — Of course you haven't. Look around you... Where were you, and where are you now?
ENCYCLOPEDIA — You have no idea.
BLOCK ??? — Before you is a towering, utilitarian structure, built to shelve a massive population. This building is one of many, its sequential sign obscured by the mural.
There are 11– no, 12 floors in total, including the ground floor, which has been obscured behind sheet metal barriers.
PERCEPTION — The scent in the air is unfamiliar. Despite the fumes of traffic and paint, the distant cigarette smoke, the wet pavement, the damp grass…
INLAND EMPIRE [Formidable: Success] — There is nothing haunting in the air. No ghosts between the molecules — not for you. The wind is silent of her sighs.

Because most of my work is based on myths, legends, and scriptures, I wanted to expand my references a bit, and picked up The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets, by Barbara G. Walker. It's been a great resource and a fun read, and inspired a little Morgan le Fay illumination. It was a bit more difficult than the illuminations based on saints, which have convenient symbols, colors, and attributes to use. For Morgan le Fay, I went with some symbols typically associated with darkness, nature, and the feminine: a crescent halo, a raven, and a green dress. A clumsy effort on my part, maybe, but her varying roles as a goddess, antagonist, witch, and queen are all fascinating || Hannah Charlton Arts

OH YOU'RE PLAYING DISCO??? HAVE FUN :D! what build do you have :0? (like for me, i played started with good purple blue and average red yellow, and had shivers as my crown skill)
some non-spoilery tips, if you want
get the horrible neck tie and wear it primiarily on the third day. you'll get a thought orb (the halo things) when you walk past a certain area that will make certain events down the line easier
next to where the corpse is hanging, there is a set of buttons you can press to contact now-defunct businesses. only one works. keep trying to press it for a special surprise.
fail the savoir fair check to flip of the bartender cafeteria manager again, and then really hammer home the fact that you're injured. he'll lower the cost of debt you owe him
a certain character will refuse to speak to you if you don't have your badge, and will offer a deal instead. if you don't want to do the deal (which is a long but not unrewarding side quest) don't talk to her further about information, because if you find it later she will still want you to do the sidequest anyway.
there are things called thought projects in the game, that offer backstory, characterisation, and skill de/buffs if you equip them. for the most useless (yet funniest) thought project, talk to a guy smoking to the north of the map. he will introduce you to a witness. after talking to this witness, come back to the motel and he will be hanging around. talk to him about...'the underground' and insist about learning about if for yourself. again, this is useless from a mechanical standpoint but is really really funny.
have fun playing :D
ahhh THANK YOU i am taking dutiful notes!! I have no idea what build I am doing. I started as the thinker (?) because that was the one that the selection screen started on and seems fairly (?) straightforward. I have figured out if i fain enough XP i get skill points which I can use on those uhhhhhhh stat characters? which will change how I can interact with things/info I get/check results. i THINK!! I have put a point into encyclopedia so far vecause that seems helpful, but I wish I had higher empathy bc i wanna figure out whats up w Cuno

Hello, question! Are there specific stages to AI rampancy?
I think Halo doesn't actually break it down into specific stages anymore. There were some earlier references to Marathon's way of doing things, though. (In particular I remember the Rubble's AI in The Cole Protocol specifically being mentioned as in a grandiose stage.)
The Marathon stages for rampancy were melancholia (the depression of an AI dealing with the limitations placed on its existence), anger (during which they lash out), and jealousy (during which they pursue expansion and power) with a theoretical final stage being metastability where the AI settles down into a stable existence beyond rampancy (which only Durandal, iirc, reached in Marathon).
Here's an oldschool Halo description of rampancy from the 2009 Halo encyclopedia, showing they didn't talk about it in phases back then either:
Tumblr media
I always thought the idea of the different emotional stages (like the way we talk about the stages of grief, almost) were cool though.
