obvious one: superman/clark kent and madoka kaname

both represent the platonic ideal of hope and both are sort of protected by the plot wherein they will always "win" in the end bc of how they represent hope in the story. what makes it interesting is how they "win", what gets sacrificed along the way (madoka sacrificing her individuality and "humanity" for a greater good and superman being the loneliest being on earth and constantly putting himself in danger and as this icon rather than human, despite clark kent very much being Human)

batman/bruce wayne and homura akemi

other than the clear gay parallels between madohomu and superbat, homura and batman are people who have suffered significant loss and have great love within their hearts, which they use to protect people they love. bruce is strongly motivated by his parent's death + catholic guilt despite being half jew half probably protestant what happened there buddy and homura her catholic guilt upbringing + idolized bestie death combo. both characters are somewhat jaded and not necessarily the pure platonic ideal of hope their bestie personifies, but if you look at them for a little bit, you go, "Oh shit, these bitches are bleeding hearts". also how they interact with their gay partner i mean best friend, wherein batman sees superman as hope and what gives him the ability to keep going because if there's someone as good as him can exist then its worth it, while homura pinpoints madoka as her motivation to keep going, tunneling her vision and essentially being the only reason she still tries to save people and live.

green lantern/hal jordan and sayaka miki

both want to be heroes but are in a system wherein they are exploited using their drive to do good. hal jordan became a poster child for the green lantern corp and basically trapped in this cycle of illusion of choice wherein he supposedly! can quit, but no hes has to keep coming back. he slowly loses touch with his "humanity" (ie his home, his friends, his hobbies, etc) and it gets replaced with his job (literal icon of marx's theory of alienation). sayaka miki wants to be a magical girl because she wants to help other people and save them, she wants to do good and thats in contrast to the fact that being a magical girl does separate her from her "humanity" (her soul got fucking ripped out) and that she does not feel like she will ever be good enough because she is a flawed person (girl youre 13 youre going to have flaws). both are driven to a point wherein their roles are separating them from what they feel as their humanity that they succumb to despair after a final break (for hal jordan his home town coast city being fucking vaporized while he was off world and for sayaka hitomi going out with kyousuke) that makes them realize how fucked everything is and they cant handle it anymore. sayaka becomes oktavia and hal becomes parallax.

john constantine and kyoko sakura

okay im breaking a rule, constantine is a dc character but not necessarily a hero. lol. lmao. anyways

both have fucked up in the past and made a serious mistake that does not allow them to go back to who they were before (constantine in newcastle, kyoko with her wish). they are both jaded people who act tough and seem like they only look out for themselves, but routinely go out of their way to help others because they are inherently good people. theyre both kind of assholes in their own way and also both seriously hotheaded. both are also extremely experienced within their area of expertise.

iconic eldest daughter syndrome kids. pushes a face of happy go lucky vaguely mature and cheerful persona and hides their flaws like theyre going to fucking die if anyone sees that they arent necessarily perfect. incredibly fucked up past. a deep fear that influences a lot of their actions (dick does not want to turn out like bruce did, mami does not want people to leave her as she is a deeply insecure individual). has guilt complexes miles, miles wide. dead parents. both deeply insecure. go eldest daughters!

Barry is most of Hal’s impulsive control, and Barry’s impulse control is Iris. So it’s a cycle of dumbass on dumbass violence. It’s funny because Id argue in the flash family it’s Jay and Iris (and Joan) who have the most sense, Linda and Wally share the same fight me mentality, and it’s like, they fell for the other intensity, over all else, like they are the anti hallmark movie couple, no slowing down only SPEED (Sorry For my feelings on Linda and Wally)

The 90’s said to Conn, Wally, and Kyle: “you are no longer baby.” And then threw them into the Colosseum to the lions. Ollie, Barry and Hal are all saying your doing great sweetie but wincing.

The human lanterns protect their own, like a pack of wolves or a very green bee hive. If Hal is the biggest brother and Kyle is the littlest brother, that makes John and Guy the like...middle children and like Guy fits the vibe of a middle child and John has eldest daughter syndrome (I feel like I’m being rude not including Jess ans Baz, but they like...do their own thing with each other)

Here’s the thing though about the Flashfam none of them are okay

Jay and Joan did their craziness years and years ago, golden age silliness 

But Barry and Iris they’re quiet about their feralness. Iris gunned down a shit ton of security agents in the future, stole Bart, and jumped them back into the past. Iris has slapped Batman across the face. She’s wild you just wouldn’t notice it right away. She provides Barry with some stability cause she’s like Bar babe we should do this and no matter how crazy the idea Barry is down. 

Wally and Linda are def the ‘put em up’ couple

Bart is the meet you in a Denny’s Parking lot at 2 am whoops I killed god kid. It gets crazier and crazier the more gens down lol. 

Lol that is Kyle and Conn tho. But if Conn can’t stop Kyle from starting shit you know he’s right there with his friend. 

Yeah Jess and Baz are doing their thing and vibing. But Hal pulled such a big brother and dare I say dad move on them. “Stop fighting or so help me I will make you get along” He tied their rings together so they had to use the same Power Battery. Honestly a dad move (throwback to the time my dad made my brother and I sit in the same chair together for an hour)

Hal, John, Guy, and Kyle are the four horsemen or corpsmen which they have proclaimed themselves to be. They’ve got a very tight unshakeable bond.

Hal is the big brother of the group in that he’s the one in the front. He takes the blame for everything. He makes the calls. And everyone in the universe knows who he is. Like his family can handle themselves more than fine but you wanna run if you hear big brother is coming

Which lol I’m imagining a massive fight right and Guy and Kyle started it of course. John claims he had no part in it (he did) And Hal rocks up. That’s when everyone flees the scene of the crime. “Really?” Guy says while pointedly ignoring Hal’s raised eyebrow and tunes out John completely bull shitting Hal while Kyle just pouts

John is the eldest daughter of the group for certain like a textbook case. John takes over the leadership of the corps. Which meant he was playing peacemaker between his bros who are disasters and the guardians who are like their parent bosses. 

Guy is unable to escape being the middle child. Which means he fights non-stop with Hal but they’d do anything for each other. He and John are super tight best of friends. And he’s non stop teasing Kyle while also being hella overprotective of Kyle

I was thinking about Hal's relationship with his youngest brothers and decided my feelings could only be expressed in meme t-shirt form:

On one hand, it was probably inevitable as the oldest child of a widowed father that he would be a bit of a de facto parent, but once you add in his position Hal really seems to have become the parent of the family. Henry's health started deteriorating when everyone was still rather young, so I wouldn't be surprised if the brothers (at least John and Humphrey) started differing to him the same way Hal started gaining more authority in parliament. After Henry died, however, you can quite clearly see just how much John and Humphrey treated Hal as the head of the family, probably even before their father died. Hal is the one who gives them their titles, not their father; Hal is the one who at least gets the ball rolling on their marriages; Hal quite frankly is the one who they seem to have respected more and cared most about continuing his legacy.

I feel like that also would have contributed to Henry's insecurities around Hal. Not only is Hal now the healthy, vibrant one who Henry is compared to, not only does he have the military excursions, not only is Hal gaining political favour over Henry, but he has the authority within the family as well. Like, I do wonder sometimes if Henry was in denial and thought if things really did go down with Hal, John and Humphrey would still be on his side, or if he knew John and Humphrey would immediately be Team Hal so any outright conflict would have quickly become disastrous. Which certainly wouldn't have helped any resentment brewing between the two of them.

Maura was a CAKEWALK in comparison to the boys(tm), Maura is just happy Kyle is with anyone, and Conn is charming so Maura gets on board real quick cause he makes her baby happy.

Guy giving him one, very short creative, shovel talk shsbwisbsu sounds like him, but I do like the idea that you posisted that they spar (or well Conn one sidedly beats him but Guy keeps getting up), so I think it evens out. John’s got eldest daughter syndrome so any protectiveness is gonna be lowkey, but it evens out pretty quickly since he knows they were friends first, and that they live and breathe healthy communication which John can say from experience none of the others hands much of.

Hal’s a little different, he’s the mama bear with a big reputation (not always a good one too!) Not that Kyle thinks that but he’s bias, but if Kyle can stand up to Ollie, no way in hell he’s gonna back down now but obviously that never comes, but he was ready (I think).

I feel like Conner and Kyle are either minimal pda couple or living and breathing pda (respectfully) couple, but like no inbetween and around different people. Like I think if they have missions where they are on different teams, they’d kiss off to the side at justice league stuff without much care, or at least do forehead touches. But that’s really the extent around peers, friends may be different, this is rambly but...yeah

Conn and Guy fight all the time. Conn isn’t sure why Guy likes to. Guy can put up a good fight yes but Conn outclasses him by quite a bit. But he’s one of Kyle’s best friends and it is a good way to get out pent-up aggression so why not. Guy’s stubbornness and determination is kind of charming actually. It’s how Conn knows Guy was serious about the shovel talk. 

Hal doesn’t even really give a shovel talk. he just lets the fierce gaze do the work for him. And yeah his reputation helps. Kyle is so biased. He hit Parallax Hal in the head with a metal pipe and insulted him a bunch before Hal basically told him good job and dipped. He is the opposite of fearful of Hal lol. 

Yeah Kyle never gave even an inch with the older heroes which I hc was a tip Guy gave him right at the start of his career after Parallax. Again the Zero Hour mess was like kyle’s fourth fight ever lol

I feel like Conn and Kyle do intimacy really well. Like sitting next to each other half on each other. Gazing soulfully into each other’s eyes, leaning their foreheads together. Temple kisses lots of those. Always playing with hands. Tucking hair behind the ears. Playful quiet ribbing. Basically nothing obtrusive like making out but if you looked at them you’d feel like you were intruiding. They wouldn’t hide their relationship. Wally would kill them if they even thought they could sneak around lol. But yeah just sort of drifting to each others sides in the big fights... well after the big fights. Conn is a ground player and Kyle is a heavy hitter up in the air. 

Just existing together you know legs tangled under the table sort of deal.
