what pisses me off the most about the jekyll and hyde musical is that robert louis stevenson explicitly said to NOT make the inner conflict about sex but meanwhile frank wildhorn was like "lol bozo" and made it about jekyll/hyde choosing between a virgin and a whore like HUH.

As the person who loves Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical, loves the discourse du jour, but is not as familiar with other adaptations of The Strange Case, I am curious: What adaptations of Jekyll & Hyde sexualize Edward Hyde the most?
I feel like repressed sexuality is always a factor in the story, but some adaptations lean into it harder, and then some adaptations go further and decide “Hyde is SEXY” is a definite point they want to make

Peter Lorre as Mr. Hyde, in "Mr. District Attorney" (1941)
This clip is somewhat misleading. The movie is largely a sunny rom-com hijinx story, with Hyde only appearing in maybe three scenes, all of which feel out of place with the rest of the film.
Nevertheless he is absolutely captivating in those scenes. Legitimately creepy, and disturbingly sexy.

that final chapter of jekyll and hyde is sooo fascinating bc a lot of that letter is so ambiguous speaker-wise. a good chunk of it is by the person who considers himself jekyll, as he is the one who signs the letter off and drives most of the written account, but it dips into identification with Hyde on a first person singular basis not a negligible amount of times. but most of it seems to be written by some unknown speaker, someone who, intentionally or not, considers themselves to be neither Jekyll or Hyde; there’s something quite chilling about reading an account by a person you initially assume is Jekyll, someone whose story you’ve been following since the beginning at this point, only for them to start referring to “Henry Jekyll” and Hyde in the third person . i know the whole novella is themed around the ambiguity of Jekyll and Hyde as separate people but christ, man
