I read a lot (but not all) of the fics, and I would like to highlight my favourites 💕

As of Jan 8th, I have read about 103 fics out of the approx 129 of the creative writing category works! The remaining fics I either skimmed and decided they weren’t my cuppa or I still have them on my to-read list.

Again, this is completely just subjective and to my own particular tastes (which lean very heavily towards queer content). All of the writing and other creations were amazing contributions to different corners of the fandom and I know we all did our best to create amazing gifts for our giftees! Mind the tags and if it’s your jam, curl up for fluff/smut and Sirius taking care of Harry.

🎁 speeding through red lights (into paradise) by @the-invisibility-bloke / the_invisibility_bloke 💕 Sirius/Harry || E || 9,975 words Just before fifth year, true to form, Harry does something very brave and very foolish. 💛 This turns the dial for ‘Harry Pining for Sirius’ up to max Brilliant prose by the author, highly recommend if the tags make it seem like your thing.

🎁 Pink Aster - Days Gone By by @trueliarose / Trueliarose 💕 Severus/Charlie || E || 45,664 words Fire melts ice, or so they say. Severus just hadn't thought that that applied to the ice in one's soul as well. Or, When Charlie Weasley came to Hogwarts to accompany the dragons for the triwizard turnament, he met Severus Snape. But can a short affair turn into a lovestory? 💛 This long fic has my whole heart! Severus is written wonderfully, the sex is spot on, and the atmosphere and Charlie’s care is just chef’s kiss! It spans canon and my heart aches along with Severus and Charlie as they fall in love amidst the war.

🎁 Rematch by p0intless_p0et 💕 Pansy/Ginny || T || 2,239 words In a cold, dark Hogwarts, ruled by fear and suspicion, Pansy Parkinson and Ginny Weasley find an unlikely spark on a makeshift Quidditch Field, and, much to everyone's amusement, only one of them can play Quidditch. 💛 The characterisation is just perfect, the atmosphere of Book 7 Hogwarts is stunning, and I thoroughly enjoyed this and reread it already, perfect Ginsy rivalry.  

🎁 Teacups & Tankards by @schmem14 / Schmem_14 💕 Madam Puddifoot/Madam Rosmerta || M || 9,589 words Bea and Ros are best friends who learn love and trust as they suffer loss and heartbreak during the Second Wizarding War. 💛 AAAH ITS SO SWEET AND EMOTIONAL and they are perfect for each other, please, come meet these sweet ladies with their slow romance kicking off during the hardships of war. It’s infused with so much heart and sexiness, I cannot recommend this enough! 

🎁 Rotten Roots by p0intless_p0et 💕 Neville/Draco || G || 2,335 words Draco Malfoy has everything he needs to complete Snape's potions work, everything but the ingredients. Neville is the Herbology professor at Hogwarts, he'll give Draco what he needs, at a price. 💛 Draco laced with guilt, and Neville's gentle hand guiding him close, showing Draco he knows him, and can be there for him. It’s suuuch a brilliant set up for a Dreville, it makes your heart ache for Draco, and Neville is so solid and steady and supportive!

🎁 Carry A Piece Of Me by @skywatcherrose / sky_watcher_rose 💕 Narcissa/Minerva || M || 3,471 words In the aftermath of a lost war, Narcissa and Minerva are just doing their best to survive - and perhaps take a little pleasure along the way. 💛 These two women, loving each other and holding strong as part of the feeble underground resistance… I love the tenderness of their intimacy during the darkness of war. Amazing portrait of these women!

Andromeda couldn't be prouder of her. 💛 I felt like I never understood Andromeda until this character study piece which is all about Tonks and her mother’s relationship. Very worth the read, thought provoking!

OKAY, here goes!

In the very first scene of the fic Harry recognizes Draco while they are both glamoured by his behaviour alone. He could probably write a PhD on Draco Lucius Malfoy with minimal effort 😅 Oh and the classic "Scared, Malfoy" also makes an appearance as beautifully illustrated by junk-ren <3

The socio-political aspect of the story! Harry is bitten while on duty and he gets sacked bc they can't employ werewolves ????? But they can have people out there on the missions that have put them in this position in the first place? Literally what is this shit! The society's prejudice is harmful enough but what's breaking my heart is that Harry believes it. And then as we learn what exactly has happened and just how conficted Harry is about the way he is now - well, by the end of the story I couldn't help by feel proud of the progress he's made :') The way were-creatures are treated in this society is an excellent metaphore for minorities of any kinds and as a member of one such group, it felt so validating to read about it illustrated like that *melts*

So now Harry is ex-Auror, and rightfully bitter about it, he does private commsions under alias HUNTER JAMES. Yes, you're reading this right. Oh bby, you are NOT being subtle xd Draco, on the other hand, is a fugitive. Which makes for a very delicious suspense throughout the story, the boys never being sure of each other.

Bodyguard Harry while Draco is the brain of the operation !!!!! I am not okay. Literally Harry being muscle (and scents xd) of the op while Draco does all the planning. Exquisite. Also boys just... being themselves ^^

Harry pulls his arm out of Malfoy's grip and barely resists snarling at him. He's suddenly sick of being treated like Malfoy's lackey. 'I'm just the hired muscle, remember. I hardly think it matters if I look pretty.' Malfoy's mouth thins in displeasure. 'And that is exactly why you're the hired muscle and I'm the one hiring you. I know exactly what's needed for you to fit in and not embarrass me, and it's a tailored suit and you need it now. So shut up and hurry up.' Harry narrows his eyes and Malfoy does the same right back.

Werewolf Harry!!!! Scenting !!!! Protective instincts!!!!! TAKING A LITERAL KNIFE FOR DRACO AND ALmosT DyiNg WHIle Draco takes them to a safe house in the middle of nowhere AND TAKES CARE OF HIM WHILE HE’s deLiriouS. And thanks to @kk1smet we have the visual of this scene!!! There's also this little fact that Harry is able to smell bodily reactions so he’s aware of more than Draco wants him to see:

Harry waves the question away. 'So, what prep do you need me to do?' Malfoy's eyes flick across his body for an instant and Harry smells a hint of arousal. It surprises him enough that he breathes deeper, almost unconsciously, but when he meets Malfoy's eyes, there's no hint of his reaction to the words. He wonders if he's mistaken. There's no way Malfoy could be interested in him, especially not after the conversation they'd just had.

... which still doesn't make him any smarter about said reactions 😅

Not to mention his wolf part wants what it wants:

'I need some air,' Harry growls, needing to be away from Malfoy; to be away from the intensity of his emotions. It's the moon, he knows that. He always gets more protective this close to the full moon; always fixates more on people. This level of emotion, though—jealousy—is one he doesn't normally experience. He doesn't like it. He especially doesn't like that it's directed at Malfoy. Fucking wolf. 

I don't know about you but I was cheering for the wolf to have his way 🐺

Harry having the Weasleys as his pack 😭😭😭

'Hi, Harry,' Bill says, reaching out and drawing him into a hug. There's no trace of surprise in his voice. Harry spends most of his moons at the Burrow, weak and shivering through his suppressant potions as Molly fusses over him. Bill holds him tight and Harry lets himself relax into the embrace, letting the familiar sound of Bill's heartbeat relax him slightly.

Harry not accepting himself and keeping his lycanthropy a secret while Draco has ZERO PROBLEM with it AND HE FIGURED IT OUT RIGHT AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! He was literally like, yeah, cool, cool, can we go on now please? And not only that he was literally campaigning wolf rights to Harry himself!

Loyalty Bond!!!!

You wear something of mine - traditionally it would be a house sigil, but I don't think you sporting the Malfoy crest would be advisable.' Malfoy smiles, but there is no warmth in his eyes. 'Then we cast a bond that ties you to me. […] Your mind and your will would be your own. You'd just be incapable of betraying me.' He holds up his hand, clearly anticipating Harry's next objection. 'You would be able to remove the Bond at any time. You just remove the object I give you.'

And despite knowing that, Harry keeps blaming the bond for catching feelings

The bond is creating that sharp, twisting feeling, that feels like jealousy, when he watches Malfoy flirting with the brawny man opposite him.

I hate to break it to you baby but that's just you xd

Also, right after Draco tells Harry he’s not in touch with his family, Harry emphasizes immediately with such feeling:

He feels a tug of loneliness in his chest, at the thought of being without a pack. He forces himself to put ideas like that aside. Thoughts like that are dangerous. Malfoy is his path back into the Ministry and a former Death Eater who needs to be put back in Azkaban where he belongs. That's it.

Sure bby, of course, keep telling yourself that.

There's anger in the room. Sadness. Disgust. It hits him at once, all of it, and it's all he can do to keep standing. Then Malfoy is there, and the door is swinging closed again, cutting the overload off briefly. Malfoy's scent wraps around him as he clenches Harry's arm, leaning in close to look into his face. 'Hunter?' he says, his voice a mixture of annoyance and something else Harry can't quite recognise. 'What's going on?

I can recognise it, it’s concern, it’s care, it’s a hint at the delightful hurt/comfort we are about to be treated with 😄

Oh, and in the meantime, Harry WORKS OUT. Just like that, while poor Draco tries to do some research. Go check out @creeeee's work if you want to see how difficult that must have been for our favourite Slytherin 😅

Also, the UST, the lust and wanting underlying the plot. Which takes some turns but the climax is sooooo satysfying. Of both the plot and the plot-what-plot part :D Honestly, this fic is so hot, I just cannot

THE CAVE SCENE!!

I will never forget it. It was so special :') Wolf Harry!! I love him. He's just a big puppy with sharp teeth, the end. Go see @zigster-ao3's idea of Harry and his wolf and imagine them in that scene. Now you have the visual for all those feelings, good luck ever forgetting that!

Finally I loooooove how we can see their relationship changing over chapters. It so gratyfying when reading a longer fic, when you can explore their relationship's evolving from barely accepting each other to this fierce feeling of adoration.

Lastly - the last chapter. This one I don't want to spoil because honestly, I had tears in my eyes reading this. SO IYKYK 🤍🦊

13. Unfinished by @turanga4 [Fat Friar & Harry, T, 1k] 💔🌙 Grief, love, and loss. A lovely, heartfelt look into the aftermath of the BOH and Harry finding comfort in Hogwarts.

14. Through the Sleepless Night by @mugsdontlie [Mundungus & Arabella, T, 2k] 🌼🐈 I love friendship fics and I love their friendship here! Mugs is the master of rare pair dynamics. There's such familiarity between the characters. It feels so real and the perfect backdrop to canon.

15. Sexy Gobs by @emilyrickman [Lighning Era & Professors, T, 650] 🌼📝 Hilarious and so creative. The formatting is insane! But I'm most impressed by creating a cohesive story simply from a couple of post-it notes.

The Bolt, Chapter 2

Pansy presses her lips against his, slowly, sweetly. The tip of her tongue probes his mouth.

Then — suddenly — an image comes to him, so vivid that for a moment he’s not sure where he is: Hermione in the library, her figure illuminated by a large, arched window. She’s bent over a piece of parchment, writing something, strands of her hair catching golden in the light. He’s close enough to see the peach fuzz of her cheeks, the slight knot between her eyebrows, the small ink blotch on her chin, from where she’d rested her quill there to think; he is close enough to trace the elegant line of her collarbone, smell the faint scent of clean linen, lemons, salt. She seems to be emitting a warm, white glow.

They look at each other for a moment, and her eyes are wide, endless, swallowing everything. Then she tilts her head, her lips curving up into a small, bashful smile. She shakes her head: no.

This is not a memory, but it feels like one.

She looks up suddenly, startled.

Draco takes a ragged gasp and shoves Pansy away.

A Case of You - HP Rec Fest 2024

A Case of You by epitomereally (podfic version by Cailynwrites) Draco/Harry. Rated: E. Words: 97,200. Case Fic, Non-Linear Narrative, Auror Partners, Unspeakables, Pining, Falling In Love, Getting Together, Getting Back Together, Hurt/Comfort, Slow Emotional Burn Fast-ish Sexual Burn Day 28 Prompt: a fic over 100k (i...if you round up this fic is 100k!) This fic is stupendously interesting, jumping back and forth (non-linear narrative) between when Harry and Draco first had a fast-burn of an almost-relationship, and to the current case they are solving years later. It also paints a beautiful portrait of Draco's life as an Unspeakable for the French government after he gives up on Auror life in Britain. The longing, pining, dancing around each other is amazing! The case they are solving is pulled along and kept my attention the whole time, and the background characters (most of which are canon names) are so interesting. I listened to this as a podfic in two gulps! The podfic includes music and the emotion is just chef's kiss. Excerpt:

Draco was in early on a Sunday morning, doing just that, when Potter came in striding in, clearly flustered and just out of bed. His cheeks were red and his hair wild, his uniform jacket only half-buttoned over a white vest and his feet hastily tucked into the regulation boots, seemingly without socks. Potter stopped a few metres from their desk, spotting Draco. He said, “Malfoy? I didn’t think you’d be in.” Draco stood up, clenching his jaw. He hadn’t known what he’d do when confronted with Potter, but it rankled to have his intentional avoidance of Draco thrown in his face. He gritted out, “It is our cubby, Potter, and I’ve work to do.” “On a Sunday morning?” Potter asked incredulously. “Certainly,” Draco said. “One tends to have to work longer hours when one’s partner is so frequently absent from work.” Potter blushed on top of his blotchy perspiration. “Er, right. Well, I’m just off then.” Potter turned on his heels to leave the office and Draco noticed a bright yellow Aurors summons clutched in his fingers. “Potter!” He called out. “You haven’t been called on to a case and are leaving without your partner, are you?” Clearly caught out, Potter stopped and turned on his heels. He said, “Are you coming or not, then?” Draco threw on his jacket and jammed his wand in his thigh holster after extinguishing the candle on their desk. Bloody Potter—almost like he was trying to get Draco fired from the force.

Murder. Barty choking underneath him. Funerals. Barty’s funerals, his dead body in a casket, his mother weeping—Sirius exhales, unclenching his fist.

“Now, though? I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but we’re kind of… in one, so if you’d like to get a move on, anytime. Please. Help yourself.”

this was honestly painful to read. i enjoyed it immensely. @letteredlettered, you really went hard with both the “identity” and the “porn”, huh?

this is the kind of will they or won’t they where they already have, only one of them knows they have, they both hate themselves for it, and then they have the magical equivalent of phone sex with dumb russian accents about it. i couldn’t have made this shit up if i tried.

and draco is such a pathetic wet dog that just keeps going back to get kicked in the face again. god, i want to fucking cry about it.

the russian accent magical phone sex also had me torn between cackling and sobbing. the depth of letteredlettered writing will truly never be fully discovered, folks.

i loved absolutely everything about this work. i’m obsessed. entranced. spellbound or whatever. i’d like to say this was a hard read, but it honestly wasn’t, because i couldn’t tear myself away from this fic and kept rereading the same scenes over and over again. even after i had to force myself not to scroll through the scene where rabbit reads the newspaper with the picture of harry going out of draco’s apartment and harry tells him draco doesn’t mean anything to him, because i could physically feel my heart fucking shattering, i don’t regret a single second spent on reading this fic.

the secret identities were done immaculately, the exploration of drarry’s not-secret identities was even better, their relationship, in all its fucked-up interpretations, was just a masterpiece. i also really loved the take on the unspeakables here, as well as the plot line in general. the language, the jokes, the mortifying ordeal of watching these two losers circle each other and eventually, FINALLY, coming together, was absolutely magnificent. chef’s kiss. zero crumbs left. i think i reread the scene with harry and draco finally fighting together at the end, like, three times, i was so giddy about finally seeing them like this.
