Theorizing....

Even though we did not see Jax holding his breath, we did see his mouth and the approximate nose area sealed when he was tied up and this could mean that he wasn't able to breathe...

...yet he did not, at least in the time he was on screen, show any visible holding-one's-breath -quirks like the others do.

My theories on this are;

-He does not, for whatever reason, have such a quirk (I am aware that there's a theory on him being an NPC that could tie into this, but I'm not very familiar with it)

-His reaction is not physical but mental in some way

-The quirk simply won't work until one chooses to hold their breath, someone else making them unable to breathe won't have the same effects — side note on this: I think it isn't a coincidence that Jax, the one not showcasing his quirk, is the one getting his mouth sealed in this specific episode. It makes sense why he was tied up, being Jax and all, but the breath holding thing is introduced this episode and is important! We could have had anything else happen to him but he got his mouth taped up!

I love Suffering animatics/art where Odysseus has a chain or rope around his ankle, connecting him to the mast. not only is it a great reference to the source material, but it implies that someone on the ship was worried that the mere sight of Penelope might convince Odysseus to jump in the water, even though he knows its a siren who will kill him

and that they were so persuasive in this argument that Odysseus actually agreed to it
