AH HINNY!

oh man, i oscillate between really liking hinny one day and feeling completely indifferent towards them the next.

hinny might be the relationship i like the most for harry, and it's all because because of the family aspect. through marriage w ginny, harry officially became a weasley family member. and, of course he always was one, but he actually is a weasley on paper and i think having that in writing would mean a lot to harry. and my golden trio heart can't not mention that by hinny being married - ron and hermione are literally harry's brother and sister (in-law) now and !!!!! that just makes my heart melt (i know those two were always harry's family but bc of the aforementioned reason, etc. you get it)

so right off the bat, when i try to organize my more positive thoughts on hinny, i'm mostly focused on how the relationship best serves harry, and only harry. and this is where my frustrations with the ship begins: it's so hard to think the other way around because ginny's narrative purpose is just to be harry's ideal love interest, instead of being a fully fleshed character. i really love ginny with all her spunk and feistiness, but she's so underutilized. she had a cute crush on him in the start of the series which was adorable, but her character was inarguably just "ron's younger sister". and after she gets possessed by volde/gets saved from the CoS by harry, she still continues to have a puppy-love crush on harry until OoTP!!! GAAHHHH!!! Apparently joanne said hinny were always meant to be soulmates and i think if these two had a consistent "invisible string" motif throughout the series, it would've been so good (and almost as good as romione's slow burn). So...

here's how i'd fix hinny (lmao):

i wouldve made the ginny a much more prominent character in PoA and beyond.

we get to see hinny actually have heart-to-hearts about the incidents of CoS - for ginny to play such an IMPORTANT role in the titular plotline of the second book, then to just have her blend into the background afterwards just boggles my mind - that was the perfect oppurtunity to make ginny an invaluable character in the cast. she has this huge experience in common with harry - being personally victimized by voldemort - that harry doesn't have w ron or hermione at that point and it would've been so nice to see harry find an equal, a confidant in ginny from then on - like, dont let the readers forget that harry and ginny have this huge thing in common, have it be with us in the back of our heads the whole time!

the potential of ginny being a maybe date for harry to the yule ball, harry feeling jealousy towards neville for getting to dance and spend time w ginny and harry being like "wait a minute! i'm supposed to crush on cho! im jealous of neville??" that wouldve been FUN - again, they couldve been a less insane version of romione hello

having the hinny subplot unravel in tandem with harry's crush and relationship with Cho in ootp

in ootp, you can argue that the story attempts to make a foil between cho and ginny's characters but if that were the case, it could've done a way better job of it

with harry's relationship w cho - harry likes her bc she's cool and pretty but she wants to connect with him through their connection via cedric and his death, which is off the bat a hugely touchy/traumatic topic for both of them and cho couldn't possibly fathom what it's like to be in the presence of voldemort/tom but guess which other character does ehehe...

now we're at hbp and this is where the good stuff starts bc if i'd had it my way, we'd have gotten their friendship in poa and two books of solid romantic build-up up until now

i honestly had a such a fun time with hinny in hbp, ginny in her OWL year being so cool and harry's hugeass crush on her- harry being a hormonal teenager was hilarious to read like its implied that harry is having increasingly inappropriate thoughts about her throughout the novel and theyre just intercut with "BUT RON-" that's some good shit

my one gripe w hbp's hinny is that i wish we actually got to see their dates sneaking around hogwarts, finding the perfect hideaways for makeout sessions, etc etc i know hp wasn't a romance fantasy by any means but imagine how swoony it wouldve been if we got to actually see these sunset dates instead of just being told about them - it wouldve been cathartic to actually see harry actually live the life of a normal teen boy before everything fell apart lol

if we got all these invisible string moments between them throughout the series, harry thinking about ginny and how good it felt to kiss her lips before he walks to his death in DH would've felt so much more earned

from a storytelling perspective, the case with hinny begs the question of if you can have a love interest for the jesus figure of your narrative? can you make a believable, grounded and balanced love story for the chosen one? i honestly think so but then you'd have to put equal amounts of effort and work into creating two nuanced characters and unfortunately we don't see that effort be put in ginny's character and that's why harry's endgame falls short for so many people. earlier, i said that this is the ship i like most for harry, but honestly that isn't saying a lot - i think with an almost saint-like character like harry, its hard to imagine a satisfying love and partnership for this kid. i like tomarry as a ship for when im feeling a bit insane but other than that, my main harry ship is him with a lifetime of peace and healing.

i also want to argue that hinny was never meant to be a primary romance in this story - the main romance/love story in the series is ron and hermione's and i think joanne's romance prowess all went into romione and i'm so thankful for that because i think it makes for better story (also i'm totally biased)

i also cant not mention the freudianess of it all with hinny, right? like god freud would Love hinny bc what do you mean they look identical to jily, what is going on here. that and the fact they had their first kid at 22/23 years old like my god, WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING you should be at the club!!!!! i do dig the failmarriage vibes they were serving in TCC, also.

I saw your "hades and apollo looking at Persephone the exact same" post and like honestly??? This series would be so much better if Hades/Persephone were intended to be toxic and Hades was MEANT to be a manipulative asshole. There are so many panels where everything is designed to make it look like Hades is the bad guy (hades following/"rescuing" persephone during the proposal) and like... ugh if it was INTENTIONAL it would be so much more interesting for the story. But it's not and it bothers me so much.

Also your "Thanatos yelling at Hades with Hades speech to Kronos" edit made my whole life, I was literally liveblogging my reading of the chapter to a friend on discord and i was telling them that everything Hades said to Kronos is something Thanatos deserved to tell Hades and I wanted someone to make an edit. Right, I've been dying over the same thought for ages now, if the whole point of LO was to showcase a girl being groomed and manipulated into becoming a worse person due to a richer and older man taking advantage of her... then maybe I'd be singing praises about what it's accomplished because as it stands, I really can't celebrate LO as being a "romance" in any way shape or form.

Either that, OR it should have stayed as like, a feel-good fluffy office romance story. Like if it had stayed in the territory of S1 with Persephone going to university and working in the Underworld without delving into any of the crazy supernatural fertility goddess / Kronos returning BS. Sure, considering it's Greek myth obviously it wouldn't be as 'fun' to have the characters not be actual gods who get into supernatural tussles, but LO just... isn't being written by someone who's capable of writing stories to that scale, and it's especially evident throughout the entire third season. Rachel should have just stuck to the character-driven plotlines with the grounded and intimate story beats (slice-of-life type stuff).

That's not to say she shouldn't ever try to write a bigger story with higher stakes and more intricate plotlines, but like... she's clearly not ready for that yet and I hope at the very least LO has been a learning experience for her so that her next story will either be more grounded or at the very least organized better if she can't resist doing a larger-than-life story.

He got crumbs of it in moments, here and there, and it would be more than enough to last the winter. Chil knew how to live on little, with only what he could afford. But love? Love he had had enough of for a lifetime.

I'll start with the shorter one that I wrote first, a quick Chilchuck POV 1.3k words oneshot that's bittersweet if not just plainly sad. It’s about repressing a crush essentially, but the marchil is mostly a front for a character study about Chilchuck’s complex feelings on his marital situation and love in general. I’ve been told many times in comments that even without shipping marchil it was enjoyable, so give it a shot if that sounds interesting!

Even years after their journey into the dungeon, Marcille wasn’t quite over her existential dread over short lifespans… And it showed. Every other day, she came by to Chilchuck’s locksmith shop with a shocking lack of locks to smith.

Coffeeshop au except it’s not an au and there’s no coffeeshop. This one is a long oneshot of 17k words, and contains flashbacks that are meant to loosely span over a year. This fic can pretty much be entirely read as platonic. They’re just close friends but they give married energy is all. Slice of life and cozy with a side of banter & tsundere behavior, and existential dread hurt/comfort as the cherry on the sundae. It contains some classic Dungeon Meshi things like storytelling through cooking and sharing meals~ If you like the Marcille and Chilchuck dynamic in canon, this is pretty much just a bunch of that, shenanigans abound!

With how chil is so irritable and private about romance and his feelings it makes sense that their romance would have passive-agressive energy. Are they just friends or pining? Oh wouldn’t you like to know. Are they just lightheartedly bantering or is he legitimately pissed or are they blinking in morse code their true feelings at each other? Yes

My post-canon timeline is Chilchuck lives a nice life living alone in his house-shop except his friends all visit him and care, and even though he likes living alone it’s also bittersweet and every corner of his life is haunted by the ones he loves and loved and the moments he had with them. That’s it that’s all I want… (mostly the nice life part lol)

My marchil manifesto is that she grows on him stubbornly like fungal yeast and it brings out his flavor like beer <3 Because she stubbornly puts her nose everywhere and refuses to give up on getting closer to her friends and it makes him open up and repress his feelings less and aaaa <33 Obligatory shout out to the dunmeshi discord serv for engaging with my rambles

For someone who dislikes alcohol I’m having so much fun working beer metaphors and stuff into the writing, Chilchuck has all the fun motifs to play with fr... Traps, lockpicking, married life, work, destitution, starvation, rejection, repression, opening urself up to the world. Give me the most domestic fluff and give it a subtle foundation of angst and hurt comfort 👌

And I do think that Marcille takes a particular interest in Chilchuck especially because he’s so set on being a closed book as well. Yeah she def is like 👀 at him. Aaah the way she wants to meet his family so bad 😭💕 I think she romanticizes him & his family life/idealizes him as a virtuous husband a lot too. Like how she tends to think of things in a more flowery story-like way.

I do compare him to bread and her to soup in that he soaks up in her warm vibes and softens up. Which has become a personal favorite. He was bread, she was soup, can I make it any more obvious /lyr Soggy bread Chilchuck is so funny to me. Like, you know that rock solid bread but then you soak it in soup and then it just becomes the softest crumbliest thing. I think Chilchuck is a really hard bread that will break your teeth if you don’t put him in some soup beforehand. Or wine. I wracked my brain a lot about what food Chil would like (because his Adventurer’s Bible profile just says he love alcohol and hates sweet dishes rip) and I end up giving him a bread motif a lot, since it pairs well with alcohol and whatnot.

With marchil I either do unrequited angst because Chilchuck will NOT allow himself to feel, or the most domestic fluffy shit ever but in a mostly platonic dimension because once again -gestures at Chilchuck- But in a true Marcille "If I was Chilchuck’s wife" Donato fashion she manages to get her nose into the most stubborn’s people stuff like a barnacle and it’s. So married people coded anyways. They’re a lil messed up but it’s ok they’ll iron out those bumps. Ironing because they are gonna do the most domestic chores together 🔥🔥 MARRIEDCORE I TELL YOU I should get around to making more fics and more different vibes though, I already have a bunch of prompts written down~

There’s a very specific horror in not being able to grow old with your loved one… It’s gotta be rough being in a relationship where you don’t mature at the same speed/rate. It must be so heartbreaking to turn around and your lover suddenly looks 70 while you’re still like 26 Chilchuck living until he lives with either Meijack or Flertom or at the castle and spends his days grumbling about people being even more incompetent than they used to be real. He can live longer than 50 🙏 come on peepaw you can make it to 70. He’s got so many friends ready to nurse him, prob while he complains about it. This is why I find elderly half-foots a funny mental picture. For a while I wondered if half-foots aged visually much at all in the traditional sense, and then I remembered these.

In my post-canon headcanons I’ve adopted the idea that Marcille doesn’t do her hair, it’s always someone else making her hairdos like an attendant or Kabru and like maybe Falin learns. In the "it takes a village to raise someone" community mutual aid energy… And the rare times where the task befalls Chilchuck he learns how to put it in a single braid (even if it’s so much hair for him to hold in his small hands all at once rip) because the one time he braided it in two in canon it reminded him of Meijack and gave him psychic damage. WHICH. Ohhh my god you have no idea how much I care about Chilchuck’s daughters now. After writing the first half of Grind Me Down Sweetly I am forever changed I know them all by name and know everything there is to know about them, I am making so many headcanons every day… Meijack wears thigh-high boots because she hates when sand, dirt or snow gets in her shoes- I have fanart coming up of them over at @fuumiku and I’d love making fics centered around them as well eventually yippee The angst of old senile Chilchuck still tying marcille's hair... Old senile chilchuck confusing marcille for one of his daughters… "Have you gotten taller? Oh how much you’ve grown" -breaking his neck looking up at her- I want Chilchuck to get the top notch elder treatment.

Ok this is the alcoholism tangent. I really want to believe Chilchuck can be super old, but… Realistically he’s gonna drink himself to an early grave, he’s a work hard play hard kinda guy.

Marcille would be horrified if she knew the extent of it fr fr, but I do think it’d drive a wedge between them if she tried getting him to lay off of it… If he’s open to it though that’d be so nice and sweet. Hey hey btw did you know, Chilchuck is canonically underweight due to extremely strict dieting and alcohol can act as a good hunger suppressant! Lots of issues to dig into here It’d be cute if his daughters visit him often and collectively keep tabs on him in a caring way. It’s less cute actually beinh the daughter and having to deal with it but- CHILCHUCK IS WORTH IT okay!!! Where’s that meme of "You can fix him? So is 5 other people y’all look like a construction crew" bc this increasingly looks like ‘Marcille Senshi Laios Izutsumi and his family make sure he doesn’t poison himself like a dog with chocolate’ mission.

Truly for some people reason just flies out the window when it comes to alcohol, coherence gives way to excuses. He reminds of someone I know who got a grave disease that’s worsened by alcohol and just. Continues to take it regularly. You know that thing that’s said where "an alcoholic parent will have 2 kids, one will grow to be alcoholic too while the other will never touch a drop of alcohol" and Chilchuck is def the first I think. He gives the vibe that he’d say "An alcoholic parent puts a strain on familial relationships?? Pshh, my father was and look at me! I turned out great!". I don’t think Chil could really get shaken out of it at this point tbh, seems very ingrained in him, would prob fight it back. I relate with my own familial situation ughh. Maybe if he realized how it hurt the people around him and not only himself though…. I’d def like to see him ease up on it. Drinking is often a social activity though. That gives me hope, especially with the whole dunmeshi lesson of sharing meals, that he might be able to/have recontextualized how or when he likes to take alcohol, that alcohol is better when you have others with you and you’re still able to talk and whatnot. Chilchuck says that he’s pretty picky with alcohol tho, like he has specific tastes or a high bar. Laios can ban good beer in the kingdom and then Chilchuck just stops because it all tastes awful and he’s not rich enough to import. The brewery he likes mysteriously burns down in a fireball incident one night. Marcille risks prison for her loved ones part 2, now with diplomatic immunity! ✨

I have hcs about Chil’s family dynamic, about his daughters and how alcoholism or workaholism may have affected everyone (not me inferring that Puckpatti being the most idealistic and optimistic from Chil’s daughters is probably a result from her being the youngest and perhaps Chil being the most often at work during that time and so she was mostly raised by her mother without much involvement from him). That’s a topic for another day though, for now I leave you all with thoughts of Flertom painting flowers on a shitty ceramic mug when she was 3 and Chil begrudgingly asking Marcille advice on picking a birthday gift for Puckpatti :) Oh yeah, because if we look at the timeline in The Adventurer’s Bible and combine it with when Chilchuck said that "Due to certain circumstances he hasn’t seen his wife or daughters in years" in the Senshi backstory chapter, besides letters with Flertom he has seemingly not seen them in 4 years. 4 YEARS. Thank god dungeons disappeared, it took that much for him to retire

Maya and Kathy are too forgotten by DC a lot (at least Maya made a return though, cause Kathy just literally dissappeared from existence fr ever since Jon's age up💀 like girl, where you at???) which is pretty dissappointing, because they're both pretty cool, cute, interesting characters with good backstories who both also have really awesome designs too, so it just feels like all this time without them has only been putting their characters to waste. Because of this, I feel like the girls deserve their own comic series with them as a duo that's similar to the fun of Supersons, but with their own style to it ofc! Plus, it'd just be nice to see what they've been/are doing in their own time now. I heard that they've canonly been going on plenty of adventures together during stuff and have a base together in Kathy's treehouse, which is pretty cute sounding! I'd love to read about that!! I already noticed, in the past posts, that it's actually weird and off-putting that Joris has no friends, and that it might be Kerubim's fault, but we never really see him make parenting decisions (COUGH-COUGH-COUGH besides the decision to constantly endanger and neglect Joris but EHHH I spent 50+ posts talking about that in the show liveblogs) in the series due to its slice of life format.

My Moms Adventures with Dhmis-

i Was talking to a friend today and i suddenly remembered that a few years ago i made my mom watch Dhmis (Web) with me. before i was even half confident to even make a tumblr account.

And then i realized that Dhmis tumblr would maybe get a giggle from this.

i was wondering if i should tell this. then i remebered my mom shares silly story's about me on her facebook. so this is revenge of the silly stories now. so here we go.

-From what i remember-

CREATIVITY: is when I realized that she was probably the Key demographic Becky and joe were going for tbh. She went from "This is weird.." to "This is weird in a fun way!" to " D: " Real quick. it was like those fake reaction channels from 2014 but in real life. it was crazy.

TIME: She got suspicious of tony real fast. She Also gave Roy a face that i could only describe as a face you'd give someone before crossing the road to avoid them. also!- She isn't a big fan of the trio. she found them creepy, she feels bad for them! but she also wouldn't get within 30 feet of them either.

LOVE: Guys lemme tell you. SHE IS SHRIGOLDS #1 HATER She hated him the moment he flew on screen. She was cussing him out and giving him the stink eye every time he spoke. She still talks about how much she hates "The creepy ass butterfly" to this day

COMPUTERS: She was jamming on the computer song fr. cant blame her it is in fact a banger. like she was worryingly looking at the screen while also bopping her head along. and when reds head exploded she froze and said "DID HE JUST FUCKING DIE!!!?" in the same vain as marks "WAS THAT THE BITE OF 87!!!?"

HEALTHY: She was confused and quiet most of the time here till THE SCENE. where she openly gasped and went "whhhAAAAAATT THE FUCK!!??????????" GET THAT BITCH OUT OF HERE!!" And she was quiet, making concerned faces at Roy. Confused face at the end. and shocked silence as the credits rolled.

Her final thoughts: "It was interesting to say the least, not my full cup of tea but i can understand why you like it, its very artsy and weird and speaks to you in that way. . Its like visual artists version of going to a underground concerts mosh pit, Crazy yet exhilarating. you never know what's going to happen next!

Ugh okay. Some thoughts. I have specifically tagged this as soto critical so that if you enjoyed it, you know what you're getting into. These are my opinions. If you enjoyed it I genuinely am thrilled for you, no sarcasm at all, but my usual disclaimer remains that I did not. I'm not gonna come at you or attack you for enjoying it, I promise; we all have different opinions and that is good and valid.

(Not that I hated it entirely; I actually love a lot about it. I just was not thrilled with everything in the end.)

First I'd like to go over what I actually really did enjoy:

The new maps are visually stunning. I'm on the fence about the heavy reliance on Skyscales, but they're creative and interesting to look at and fun to explore.

Love P*itha (though not like that I just think she's Neat I need to clarify that) and the Krypt*s. Really wish we could've spent a lot more time digging into the power structure there but I like that they think WE'RE the ugly ones.

I've been gnawing on the shadiness and cult-like nature of the Astr*l Ward since the jump and am really hopeful their behavior gets treated with the gravity it genuinely deserves.

It was nice to see Z*jja again, even if my opinion of how she was handled is... well. We'll get to that below.

The W*zard Vault is a HUGE improvement over the daily system, don't @ me. Love being able to spend my fun bucks on whatever I want whenever I want without being bogged down in "ugh it's x days until I can get clovers or a tome."

I'm keeping R'tch*kk, Glade, and Z*zel. Fr*de too. And L*hr. No one can stop me.

All that being said...

Glad they admitted they bit off FAR too much. SotO felt too big for its britches after the first drop, and what could've been really interesting things got shoved into closets and out windows to make way to hurry along to the next beat. Everything was equal parts rushed and a slog, lore buried in journal and hidden text over and over and over. The pacing was absurd.

To say nothing about how miserably they flubbed Z*jja's story. What could've been a really interesting dive into what she went through as she maybe journeyed into and through Nay*s with us, her going through a will she won't she until deciding in the end that maybe ascension was the best option? Nothing. Hurriedly mind wiped off screen before the second drop even hit and shoved completely out of the narrative with barely any relevance to the story as it stood, despite how loudly anet banged the pots and pans of how super big and important her arc was.

You literally could replace her with a lamp and it would change practically nothing about the story. She wasn't even relevant to the greater story at all. Why was she even there?

To say nothing about those really juicy drops of how shady the Astral Ward was, between the bits in the fractals, G*lrath's threat, the "something has gone wrong" status effect at the end of the third drop, and none of that was followed through on.

And I say this as someone who loved the first drop immensely, liked what we were seeing, was genuinely intrigued... and then nothing.

I really wish we could've either stuck with the ward, or had the ward be barely introduced before being tossed into Nay*s and spending most of our time there so that we didn't have all this setup that felt like it dangled.

I'm glad to see they took the criticisms on the pacing and story content to heart, though, and maybe it'll improve. Still feeling a bit stung, and there's a LOT I'm still planning on rewriting (gonna tweak some stuff with the knowledge we'll be addressing the ward again... hopefully. Z*jja's still not there though sorry not sorry anet).

I'll remain cautiously optimistic in the meantime.

shes the og, shes That Girl, she is the moment! (lol, get it?) Rose was one of the best companions fr. her love story with the doctor is so beautiful and so tragic and honestly, he Needed her. ninerose >>> tenrose i said what i said. 9/10

Jack Harkness

very fun character! they kinda ruined him in torchwood a little bit. some of the earliest explicit queer rep in mainstream media i ever saw, if not the first! i loved his dynamic with rose and nine. 8/10

Mickey Smith

my sweet boy, my babygirl. he deserved so much better fr. dont get me wrong, i love Rose, but the way she treated Mickey was so mean. also the doctor hated his ass for no reason other than he was competition for Rose's affection. plastic Mickey was iconic. 8/10

Martha Jones

ICON!!! QUEEN!!!! i Love Martha soooo much. she was the only companion to Get Out and i love that for her, she deserved it. she slayed fr. however i do kinda hate that most of her character was simping for ten like. girl. stand up. 9/10

Donna Noble

Oh My God, incredible. cant wait to get her back!!!! the adipose scene through the windows???? hilarious, i can quote every word!!! she gave the doctor a run for his money and i love that for her. she was exactly what he needed after Rose and Martha, just A Mate. 10/10

Amy Pond

my favourite companion!!! eleven was My Doctor tho so thats probably why. every episode of season 5 is a banger. i love that she and Rory and River became a family to the doctor. love her. little Amelia is so cute and grown up Amy is a total badass. fish custard/10 10/10

My musings about the girl on the train

So I've been in a reading slump for a while. The last book I really read and enjoyed crashed and burned within one sentence towards the end. Ripped my heart out. Cried for three days.

I know it might sound funny, but that book honest to god really hurt lmao. Afterwards, I didn't see anything I liked in the fantasy genre and, if I'm being perfectly honest, I was terrified of reading fantasy books that DID have interesting summaries.

I finally decided to move on from fantasy and read the girl on the train.

I won't lie. I read some reviews before finishing the book. I don't know how some people "figured [out who the killer was] within the first few pages" or whatever. I was completely and utterly shocked when I found out who the culprit was.

I remember one review saying that the author hated men. I have to admit that that's hilarious. He's not wrong, but I never got the sense that the author liked anyone in this book. All of the women are bad people. I wouldn't want any of them near me. Anna is incredibly vindictive and has a cruel heart. She says she wants the wife of the man she's having an affair with to come home and see them.

Rachel is a fucking MESS. She's lonely and depressed. I completely and utterly understand why everyone in this story hates her guts. Unfortunately I find myself feeling a lot of sympathy for her.

Even Meghan, the dead girl, is not a good person. This author hates everyone equally fr.

I don't think I've ever really read a book with an unreliable narrator before. Honestly, I didn't think it'd be fun. What's the fun of reading a book where the main character is lying to you all the time? But I was on the edge of my seat multiple times through this story. I had to know more. Every decision Rachel made was so stupid that I had no choice but to wonder how it would turn out. She's so interesting to read about and I feel like her emotions are so well portrayed that you can't help feeling for her, even if she is a bad person.

This book got me out of my reading slump and I am SO excited to explore the mystery and thriller genre more. I've never cared about it before but I'm honestly so interested now.

The bear was the scary guy the whole time! Wheatstar is an interesting character to me, and I think a hypothetical story that took place directly after RoseClan became BarrenClan would be fun to explore.

Hello again! I don’t wanna possibly spoil anything for people since the last chapter hasn’t been out that long so I’ll just put a little warning here —

!!! SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 11 !!!

AHHH so much Criston in this last chapter! My problematic fav, I’m so happy. Really enjoyed all of his parts and am interested to see what happens with him next. He’s just such a fun character to read, write and talk about. It’s kinda funny to think about him turning around and finding that MC has disappeared in the street though 💀 (ik I’m terrible) And just like…doing a walk of shame back up to the Hightower hours later to tell Alicent he lost the crazy lady but she’s already back there

Fr though, I’m itching to see how the relationships between Criston, Alicent and MC develop further. He’s got such a longing for purpose and salvation and Alicent looks to her faith for something to hold onto and seems so conflicted and unnerved by MC. It’d be easy to get annoyed at Alicent rn with how she’s acted towards MC (victim blaming isn’t cool, Alicent! Neither is ordering hits on people!) but it’s at least understandable — I mean, this girl just appeared out of nowhere and has “infected” her family and now she’s seeping into her faith too, something sacred for her, and how is Alicent supposed to know what this all means or what to do with MC? So, MC becoming this religious figure of sorts in a world like Westeros will be verrrrry interesting. MC could find herself in an even more powerful and dangerous position than she’s already in. The bit with the high septon honestly makes me scared for her! It’s certainly an advantage to have people kneeling at your feet and willing to do and believe whatever you tell them because they think you’re a messenger of the gods. For someone of her standing especially, being able to influence people like that is very powerful. But in this kind of era, with religion being such serious business…she’s gotta be careful here 😬

These maesters suck. Bunch of assholes really. Is Vaegon still alive in this story? He’s one of those minor characters I’m so interested in, I’m always curious to see what people do with his character when he pops up in stories. Totally understand if he doesn’t make an appearance though

Daeron’s introduction was great too, I liked his characterisation. He feels different to the rest of his family - brothers specifically - and you can tell he’s been shaped by a different environment than they have but he still has those hints of Targaryen-isms. Exactly as Daeron should be 💚

Love MCs little friendship with Aegon and her interactions with the twins

I feel so much for the MC though. The way you’re writing her and how she’s struggling is so easy to empathise with. Just being dropped into another world would be enough to break someone but then she’s got all this extra bullshit to face! It’d be so scary and isolating :( The way she deflates or tenses whenever Aemond is even mentioned is such a painful but real thing.

Yeah, I think the best part to write was him like over-analyzing a game of tag. He was doing too much but he is just so convinced that MC is up to something (He's not totally wrong though.) Yeah, I can only imagine Criston turning around and being like '😧' Then finally that night he comes back like '🧑‍🦯😥' "I lost her." and Alicent just freaking out bc of the whole weird thing going on with her.

Criston will definitely have his moment of character growth and then we’ll see where that’ll lead to. As for Alicent, she’ll have her growth, but I suppose it can also be argued as a recession. Alicent is always so desperate to be in the right that she is just so wrong. She's always so close and then misses by a mile. But like you said, always understandable that she’s freaked out by MC and obviously Alicent still has her plans to get Aegon on the throne, so it becomes a whole thing where MC is watching and Alicent feels disgusted. As for MC becoming a religious figure, that was always the plan, and of course there was rejection in the beginning bc it what almost got her killed by Daemon bc she wasn’t a messiah, so it coming full circle and her getting into the faith, it’s kinda like….‘hmm.’ I don’t want to give too much away but my stance on it is "Coincidence is just the mind's way of making connections where none exist.” And yes of course with perks comes dangers if they push her the full mile and it’ll be interesting if MC embraces the role that’ll eventually be pushed onto her. (But that won't be for another couple of years)

Yes, Maesters suck butt! It’s really just so…annoying to see, but I mean, what other outcome was there? I wanted to be as realistic as possible. It’s already crazy enough that her plans got pushed through, not to mention she still has to find that person to take the seat in the council (She can’t just yet) So she needs to find someone who isn’t totally against her which is like finding a needle in a haystack. As for Vaegon it is definitely very interesting to think about. They said he passed in 101ac (Only bc he wasn’t mentioned anymore) but he was only 38 at that time, and in 129 he would be 66. I find it strange that he would’ve died so early. The faith and the citadel don’t like Targs nor do they like the aspect of magic. Vaegon was dragonless and obviously wanted to distance himself far far away from his family with him taking his studies into mathematics, and economics. I don’t think Vaegon wanted the downfall of his family, but I think he is just a little resentful of them (He was called upon by his father and I’m pretty sure he either suggested or supported his father calling for the great council when Viserys was chosen over Rhaenys) There is also the whole issue after the dance where possibly non-targs could claim dragons (Most notably silverwing) and some speculate that Vaegon was the one who said to do something about her so that it wouldn’t cause trouble. But this would definitely be a very interesting dynamic. Vaegon is into mathematics and right now MC needs mathematicians for this water system project. So who knows.

Yeah for Daeron I tried to pry into the mind of a more mature teenage boy who just happens to have a dragon, which was very hard, bc I am none of those things. (I want a dragon so bad 🥹) All siblings tend to have this blind loyalty to each other and in Daeron’s mind Aegon, Helaena, and Aemond are the exactly the same as they were before, and he liked Aemond back then so this loyalty for his older brother makes sense. But when Daeron hears that this lover (supposedly soon to be wife if Viserys has his way- or at least according to what Alicent said) is MC, it’s kinda like when your brother brings home like a girl who you can just sense isn’t a good person. Daeron is very off put by the fact that his brother who was much more a stickler to the rules than any of them, now has a lover. (I like to also think that Daeron is a lot more conservative bc of the heavy influence of the faith in Old Town.)

The twins are just so lovely and I thought a cute little game of tag would be nice. (Besides she feeds them so much junk food they've gotten a bit fat. So a little running never hurts.) As for her relationship with Aegon, he has toned down the obvious vibes that he wanted to sleep with her (Mans would still take the opportunity if it was there and I envision that it would happen while they’re both high. (Maybe in both ways. High in the mind and high in the sky.)) Right now his main thing is music.

Thank you! I like writing tragic characters. Perfect characters are…boring. The only perfect I accept is when it's like they’re so perfect that when bad things happen to them, the person that did it becomes insanely hated bc how dare they. (If you’re going to be perfect, Imma need them to put it to use and manipulate others like no one else's business whether intentionally or not. Very fun to read.) I want MC to make mistakes, and to have things turn out badly and then she has to claw her way out and continue on towards the goal. Aemond is just being Aemond😔 A shiny new toy that is his. The past shouldn’t matter when he has everything laid out. Or that's his mentality at least.

I enjoy your comments on my writing. I’ve gone back and reread some stuff and obviously there is a very big difference, BUT there is actually a reason for that. The way I’m writing now is my natural writing style (If you were to go look at my old works up to my latest (Not including this one) it has always followed a ratio of 1:5 (Or around there.), one being the actual dialogue and five being inner thoughts.) Basically, this was…a crack fic (AT FIRST) then I really started thinking about the story and thought it was best if I actually. I think a good example of this would be ‘A Solemn Beginning' (is this me being a shameless plug for myself?…possibly) I started writing that story last year around March, though it wasn't published till months later. (So way before I ever even thought of this concept) and that story has a much more similar vibe in these more recent chapters. Basically, my early writing in this story was lazy writing. (I just sat down one day and wrote the first chapter just bc I came up with the idea of being electrocuted via a kite in an attempt to charge a phone or try to harness power and reader being launched into a wall just as Jace walks in and is like '😨' while MC is writhing on the ground steaming.) I wasn’t thinking too much about anything, just writing to writing. BUT! I appreciate it nonetheless.

🪓 If I could design a first trial, huh? Man... I've been asking myself this, actually, because of my Mr Beast AU (I'm just calling it that, it doesn't have anything to do with Mr Beast) and I uh, haven't had any good, concrete ideas yet. My most interesting one is thematically potent for the characters I put in it. Ironically it's also the least clear. It's in my notes as "something to do with the moon" so. I guess the only one I've actually thought out is the mirror room puzzle. It's pretty much the one Sara did before the first game, but with communication issues this time! One contestant is in each room, and they have to talk with each other to make the rooms mirror each other, before the time runs out. Normal stuff. I've also got a character in just. A normal escape room. So that's fun.

💭 Which AU is my favorite? You're killing me here, my god. So. Obviously there's my survivors AU, the one I've made a few sketch comics for. Both Sara and Shin survive, they can't get rid of each other, they become friends on accident, etc. etc. Ryoko is there. I might be bringing Midori back for that one too but ehhh idk. The stuff I've written for that is interesting but it's straying too far into whump territory for this AU. It's a cool way to fuck with their character arcs though.

There's also my two new silly AUs, YTTD Hoodwinked AU and YTTD Nerdy Prudes Must Die AU. They're pretty fun. I don't think they're my favorites though. Oh and Ranpo in the Death Game AU but I haven't touched that one for a while. Not since the yaoi.

And then there's the other big contender. The Mr Beast AU. AKA I put 100 fictional characters in the Your Turn to Die death game (said in the mr beast intro voice)! Oh man. What a whopper. And I have lore reasons for it too. Now picture this: The death game is over. Sara wins. She goes on with her life, distraught for a while, but then only numb. When the time comes, she takes over ASU-NARO. With her at the helm, research pivots from recreating people artificially to regaining them for real. Flesh and blood. That's right baby, they're playing 5D chess with multiversal time travel, and they're about to find out what happens when that shit goes wrong. Meanwhile, in 14 other worlds, shit goes haywire there too. The cast of YTTD wakes up in their old bodies, from the start of the death game, with all their memories intact. And a hundred newcomers awaken too.

Mm... I think the mr beast AU is more interesting to me currently, just because I loooove crossover AUs and banging my toys together like rocks. I put all my favorite niche media in there. We've got My Student Spirit, we've got Rhyme and Reason, we've got Ghost Junk Sickness, we've got 7Seeds. I even have The Neverending Story! We've got extra scientists, we've got actual robots, we have a cat with a job, there's a man who is literally a ghost and another who can talk to ghosts and they are both the nicest (lyinggg the ghost is an asshole. Just like me fr). And freaking out at the center of it all is our good old primary cast, trying to survive all over again.

I'm having fun with it. Tsukasa Tenma is dead. Herlock Sholmes is dead. Dima PAFL is dead and Dr. Temnova doesn't know yet. Olezha has a real body again but he can't go tell his roommate because his roommate is in the death game and they can't have people moving willy-nilly from the administrative side to the game side, now can they? Emu Ootori has blood on her hands. So does Kotaro Mita. Man I love this AU. I have to make something other than a spreadsheet for it.

🏆 Who do I think will win? Sara, obviously. I don't think there's any way that she doesn't. I don't think Keiji will, or Shin. If she does get to take someone with her, I think it'll be Gin in the logic route. I also think that maybe we'll get a choice in the emotion route. To save either Kanna or Gin. Which kid gets to live. Kinda fucked! But what about this game isn't lmao. Regardless, I'm excited to see what happens.

Explanation: starting off with physical appearance, I think he would find you very attractive from your brown hair to your brown eyes and I think that your glasses wouldn’t intrigue him and he would ask a lot of questions about them at first because they don’t really have things like that and he’s genuinely curious about what they do and they make you look very cute (hot) He kind of likes how short you are and I think he would just find your entire existence to just be very adorable not in a condescending way (well at least later on into the relationship, he might be a bit condescending and think that you’re a cute little mortal at first, but then you quickly managed to flip that) he gets bottling up his feelings and I feel like that is something that you guys would kind of need to break down together and help each other communicate in a much clear way because he’s also so used to hiding his feelings for saving face and not letting anyone hurt him as much as life has. He admires your ambition and while he’s not as ambitious as you, he will help you to achieve his goals in anyway that he can and he thinks that you’re coming this is a quite attractive feature of your personality. he’s not always been the type of person to immediately help people so he very much admires your leadership skills and the fact that you want to take a step up just out of the kindness of your heart. He doesn’t necessarily get it at first, but he thinks it’s a truly admirable trait that’s rare to find in these days. after you guys get past the cold stage where you’re both kind of enemies and because y’all do have enemies to lovers tension I will say that once you guys kind of get past that stage, and you guys get to the more friendly versions of yourself or you guys can goof off and joke around a lot. I think that he would love that and you guys a sense of humor is surprisingly similar so I think that to make very flirty or dirty and would definitely goof off with you while still maintaining a serious relationship whenever you guys rule over Elfhame. He’s never had any particularly strong beliefs because I think a lot of being a royal child is being told what you shouldn’t shouldn’t believe and he’s kind of a rebellious so I feel like he’s a bit wishy and it blends well with your strong beliefs because you can kind of help him advocate for his self and his own things. He thinks your interests are fascinating and I feel like you guys would spend long hours discussing them with each other and he would love just seeing you rant about your passions and thinks it’s one of the most attractive things ever he just loves the way that you get so into detail and he can see the sparkle that lights in your eyes as you talk about whatever you’re currently interested in and he would engage in the conversation with you as well and say productive things too. You guys could just be putting in a room talk about your interests and you would never ever get bored. Incredibly hot martial arts and if you ever did anything like beating his ass or demonstrating a move on him or some shit like that, he would love it. He would think it’s so hot like I will tell you this man loves dominant people like I just feel like he loves people who can fight dominant people that that is that is his type right there and I feel like that is you with martial arts and he would find it so hot whenever you did demonstrated on him or anyone else. He also likes writing and reading so I feel like that’s something fun you guys can do together just like sit down and a beautiful location and read a book together and then talk about it afterwards like your own little mini book club or you guys would totally write stories together poetry I feel like that’s one of the ways that you guys would learn how to express your emotions to each other is through your poems so if you can’t quite say clearly, you guys can make poems and trade and that that’s one of your coping mechanisms and you guys can maintain a healthy relationship when you both struggle with expressing your emotions. Hello.... Can I ask your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters from MDZS? And why you loved them? And your top 5 favorite moments from the series? Thanks if you want to answer....

Characters:

5. Lan Sizhui/Lan Jingyi I love their dynamic SO much. They're best friends who have clearly known each other for such a long time, and they're both really interesting characters in their own right! Lan Sizhui is so interesting, what with his Lan upbringing and his Wen heritage, and the fact that he's connecting to both by the end of the book. Lan Jingyi is Lan Sizhui's ride-or-die, protecting his best friend at every opportunity while having the best lines in the entire book, and he makes every scene he's in 100x better.

4. Wen Qing Medical malplractice queen!! But in all seriousness, there's something so viscerally powerful about the fact that she's willing to go against nature itself for her baby brother. She'd both die and kill for Wen Ning, and later for Wei Wuxian. I feel like her type of character (murderous older sister) is kind of rare and I really, really like her. I feel like The Untamed really fleshed out her character and I really appreciated her after I watched it. She's equally capable of nurturing and destroying—a force of nature herself.

3. Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian Fun fact: I hated Lan Wangji when I first read MDZS, and to be honest I'm still so-so on novel Lan Wangji. However, he was easily one of my favorite characters in The Untamed, and watching it made me see him in a whole different light. He doesn't communicate through his words, but through his actions. I think Wang Yibo was perfect casting because he NAILED Lan Wangji's micro-expressions and body language and really brought the character to life. Reading Lan Wangji as autistic also made me understand him a lot more. As for Wei Wuxian, I initially read him as a silly guy and... was right. Despite everything, he stays silly. I do find him a little insufferable pre-death, but I think that was intentional. He probably would have been higher on the list, but while I think he's a really compelling character (and ADHD personified, just like me fr), I'm also very frustrated by him and I don't like how he treats people sometimes. Still, I adore the way he looks after Jin Ling, refuses to let anyone blame Jiang Cheng for anything that happened to him, and takes care of Lan Wangji (towards the end, anyway).

2. Jin Ling Ok he probably would have been at the very top of this list but unfortunately jiang cheng brainrot is real. But CAN WE TALK ABOUT HIM. Over the course of the story, he finds out that his disgraced uncle who insulted him for not having a mom was actually Wei Wuxian reincarnated, then had to contend with the fact that Wei Wuxian was both the reason his parents and grandparents died AND the guy who protected him at every opportunity. Not to mention, he learned that Jin Guangyao, his beloved uncle who gifted him his beloved dog, had orchestrated his parents' death and was ready to kill him too. And what does he do at the end of the novel? He cries. He doesn't seek revenge, he doesn't get angry, he just cries, and he lets go. He chooses not to pursue revenge, because he's seen how the quest for revenge has destroyed everyone around him in one way or another. He's a little shit (because he's an edgy 15 year old) but he's a really intelligent and kind person who loves Jiang Cheng more than anything.

1. Jiang Cheng Some of y'all are going to disagree with me but it must be said. Jiang Cheng is the best MDZS character. Jiang Yanli's love and care taught him how to be loving and caring too. He loved Wei Wuxian, he loved Jin Ling, and he loved his sect. Jiang Cheng never stopped loving Wei Wuxian, even after everything that happened. He hated Wei Wuxian too—that's undeniable—but he also loved him. He kept his belongings intact, he never stopped believing he would come back, he literally gave up his golden core to protect Wei Wuxian. And Jin Ling! He loves Jin Ling so much! Despite having AWFUL parents himself, he was determined not to be that way towards Jin Ling. He did his best to break the generational trauma of his family because he wanted Jin Ling to have it better than he did. When Jin Ling becomes sect leader, he makes sure that he knows that if he EVER needs ANYTHING, he'll provide it to the best of his ability. I could go on for hours about this man. Best MDZS character. He's so full of resentment and hatred and vengeance, but in the end, the thing that always wins out over everything else is his unshakeable love.

Honorable mention: I loved MianMian in the Untamed and wish she got more time to shine in the novel

Favorite moments: 5. Literally anytime Lan Jingyi is in a scene. Every time he opens his mouth it's my favorite scene. He keeps Wei Wuxian humble in a way that only a teenager can. 4. The WangXian scene where Wei Wuxian hides porn in Lan Wangji's book. It starts off so genuinely nice—you can tell Lan Wangji isn't really serious anymore when he tells Wei Wuxian to stfu, and you get the feeling that Wei Wuxian is probably the closest thing Lan Wangji has to a friend. Wei Wuxian draws Lan Wangji a little portrait, and it's genuinely a sweet gesture. Lan Wangji thinks so too—he hasn't ever gotten something like this, and the fact that Wei Wuxian took the time to learn his appearance and commit it to paper makes him feel some type of way. And then, it turns out that everything was just a ruse so Wei Wuxian could prank Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji is,, understandably enraged. It feels cruel that Wei Wuxian would be so insincere just to do that. I kind of hated Wei Wuxian in this scene, but it's one of my favorites because it kind of shows the nature of their initial relationship—half-sincere, but never truly sincere. 3. Xuanwu cave scene. It's so funny and so painful and so sweet. We really see everyone's characters coming out—Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji being selfless protective, Jiang Cheng being capable and responsible, Jin Zixuan being brave and righteous, MianMian being the GOAT, Wang Lingjiao and Wen Chao deserving death, etc. 2. The umbrella scene in the Untamed. It was just so powerful. Lan Wangji putting down his umbrella, which represents the rules and morality of his sect, and just letting the rain mess up his perfect appearance. He doesn't know what's right and wrong anymore, because he loves Wei Wuxian, but everyone is telling him that's wrong. Wei Wuxian himself doesn't know what's right and wrong. Lan Wangji has been thinking in terms of black and white all this time, and for the first time, he finds himself in a gray area. It was just so powerful!! 1. The conversation between Jin Ling and Jiang Cheng after the temple scene at the end. It was just so beautiful. Go read/watch it.
