Hiiii I saw you say you have Notes on your Remus and Janus designs đđ?
Could we see/hear some tidbits?
FOR SURE !! Here's what the original doodles for their designs look like, first off, (I know you didn't ask for Virgil but I did these three at the same time)
When I drew this I had just finished an exam and had to wait another hour until I could leave the classroom, so I wrote down enough notes that I had to flip the page instead:
Virgil:
- Virgil has light brown hair that he dyes black (badly). It is essential that the dye job look like shit. It looks artificial, his roots are showing, there's patches where the color didn't take, etc etc.
- He also has blue eyes, which I decided on mostly because it makes it even more clear that his hair isn't naturally black.
- He wears earrings, but his ears aren't actually pierced â they're fake little little clip-on things.
- He wears black nail polish at all times, but it's always chipped because he gets the cheapest stuff he can get his hands on.
- His hair (especially his bangs) get very long at times because he gets too socially anxious to go to the hairdresser. Back in middle school, he used to have Janus cut them for him (Remus could have done a better job but trusting him with scissors would have been a mistake). Now he mostly cuts it off by himself â it looks about as good as his dye job.
- Virgil's purple hoodie is a leftover from Remus' fashion design endeavors that Remus thought didn't look weird enough.
Janus:
- He has naturally strawberry blonde hair. The length is very important to him â he started growing it towards the end of middle school. (He allows Remus to experiment with hairdos sometimes as long as he doesn't cut anything off. I need to draw that sometime)
- I'm not entirely settled on his eye color. I know at least one of his eyes is a very pretty brown, but I have half a mind to give him a yellow glass eye for his left side â I'm not sure it'd make any logistic sense for his situation, though
- He got his ears actually pierced when he was 16.
- He also may or may not have a forked tongue. Not sure how I'd ever be able to show that off â but if he does have one, then Remus definitely was the one to encourage him to do it.
- His fashion style was definitely influenced by being around Remus (who may have used him as a mannequin/dummy because he's small.) so much. Remus also attempted to make clothes for him, but Janus is very fancy and picky, so he doesn't wear those clothes very often (though he might accessorize with stuff Remus made for him occasionally).
Remus:
- He has naturally very dark hair. He uses temporary/surface level dyes a lot, but if he's using permanent or semi-permanent dyes, he's usually limiting himself to the grey streak â it's kind of a sample strand, since it's already bleached. He 100% copied his hairstyle from Roman's.
- He (and Roman, of course) has greenish blue eyes.
- Janus paid for him to get his ears (and eyebrows) professionally pierced because otherwise he was just going to do it himself with a sewing needle.
- He has a lot of very shitty stick-and-poke tattoos he made/makes on himself. They're almost always hidden by his outfits.
- Speaking of which, Remus makes most of his outfits costumes himself. The quality of the work may vary, but they are always way too over-the-top for casual wear, because he stands out anyway, so... in for a penny, right. (As I said in the tags of a post: he is very creative and has no shame or social anxiety at all, so he had his whole aesthetic ("overdramatic green") figured out by the time he was 13)
- He also has SH scars, but, again â they're hidden by his outfits 99% of the time. He's a slut who never shows an inch of skin
#their design go in order of intensity Virgil â Janus â Remus#virgil likes to express himself but is too chicken to do anything too extreme so he's limited to softcore emo#janus is definitely fancier than most but he wears stuff i still definitely see every day at my uni#(i see people wearing corsets regularly at my uni idk what other people's experiences are. English litt major in a non-English country...)#(for those who don't know that's a gay as fuck major)#and then Remus looks like he's in the middle of a stage production every single day. with makeup to match#OH this is somewhat of a college AU ! Roman is also there and Remus' class does costumes for Roman's occasionally#Roman does theater and Remus does visual arts (design major/fashion minor bc there was no fashion major)#Janus and Patton are philosophy majors and of course Virgil is a psychology major#and then we have Logan in biochemical ingeneering for obvious reasons.#i have so much lore sorry for rambling .#anyway they keep a lot of their original designs because it just fits them#BUT i needed to include virgil having a shitty hairdo/dye and etc because he is. SUCH a try-hard in my mind.#emo sure. but he looks wannabe emo. it's Essential. he's fake ! he wants to fit in! with the gay kids sure but he still wants to fit in!#it's very clear that his hair is dyed because it's very clear that he is a wannabe. it is so important to me.#also the tidbit about him not being able to go to the hairdresser. is ALSO SO IMPORTANT. he pretends the shitty hairstyle is intentional.#even his signature hoddie is someone else's leftovers. He Borrows. From A Lot Of Places. but he doesnt have a real identity of his own yet.#you wouldnt guess while reading these tags but im actually way more passionate avout Janus and Remus than i am about virgil#it's just that i project onto virgil so so so much .#anyway SORRY FOR THE RAMBLE AGAIN. I KEEP DOING THAT#ask#idrawgaystffs#sanders sides#lbau#drawing#traditional#rant#do i character tag this. i dont feel like feel like character tagging this#OH AND thank you so much for asking !!! as you can tell i really like talking . about them

my graphics teacher is like one of those high school teachers whos always like "this is so important youre gonna use this in college!" except hes like. "youre gonna use this when youre working as a graphic designer!" and today he was like "guys youre all gonna need this next semester when you're in the next level graphic design class!' Except this class is a basic level graphic computer applications class that every single visual arts student has to take regardless of specific major so like. personally i know I will most likely never have to open indesign again after this class is over. And also that i do not have to nor will i elect to take any other graphic design classes for the rest of my major. so i dont think thats true.
#it annoys me sooo much idk why. He bugs me in general bc hes super gruff and very high and mighty about his expectations like he will never#ever tell us something or mention it SO briefly and then act like its the end of the world later when we dont know it#i mean i guess this is another example of that like he'll always be like guys this is really bad that you dont know this bc youre gonna get#fired as a graphic designer if you dont.#which is like. okay why would i care it is literally not my goal to be a graphic designer and im not going to school#for it. like do you know what class youre even teaching. im pretty sure MOST of the people in here are not graphic design majors theres lik#4 other majors in the visual arts umbrella at my school that all require this class#like the point of this class is just to learn the basics of how adobe programs work. thats it.#anyway. basically i am ready for this semester to be over.

Moon 21 Part 2
[Whippaw is surprised by Ringstarâs willingness to help]
The Line Begin Here | Previous | Admit One
Whip continues to enjoy his time in the clangen sun before once again returning to obscurity </3 At some point in some future update he'll have his official 'glow up' to his adult design. It makes sense to have it in this update but... he's still just a baby to me...
EXTREMELY mixed feelings about the results of this. I feel like the visual leading aspect is not excellent, and I'm a little bit worried with how long these partial-moon updates are turning out because there is a MAJOR dialogue scene coming up, and I REALLY don't want to stick huge walls of text in a frame.

alright, i finally finished Dragon Age the Veilguard.
tldr; 3/10. I didn't like it.
If you enjoyed the game and would rather keep enjoying it, please don't click the read more section as what follows is rather critical.
I can finally sit down with my thoughts and put them together in a more cohesive structured review, touching on most things that I wanted to address. I'll start with positives and then focus on the negatives.
Warning, this is VERY long.
Overall, I had a neutral to negative impression of DatV, which got worse by the end of the game. It had some good moments, but they were entirely unexplored and underutilized, suffering from bad writing. While the game itself is rather pretty, it didn't outweigh the dialogues, the stories and the lore butchering that took place.
1. Environment and visuals. 8/10.
I think Veilguard is a very beautiful game. I enjoyed exploring the corners of this new world, the little bits of environment design and storytelling that it had. It felt magical, certain locations were mesmerizing! I couldn't stop staring at the valley where you go to with Harding, the carcass of a titan.
2. Combat. 9/10.
I love flashy combat, I enjoy hack and slash, so until the very end of the game I was having most fun in combat. Yes there was repetitiveness but I tried to combat (hehe) it with changing my abilities and weapons every now and then. I liked combos and I liked timed parries. Enemy tactics got a bit boring by the end, but a few enemies still surprised me and challenged me.
.... That's where positives end. Now on to the negatives.
1. Characters. 2/10.
I don't understand what happened. Almost all the characters in this game were tuned down to a two-dimensional personality, "good" and "bad" - and absolutely no nuance. This happened not only to the villains, but to the different NPCs and even our companions. Their interests got narrowed down to single points of interest (Lucanis and coffee being a prime example to me), their motivations got watered down.
This is not what I expect from a Bioware game. I want to be challenged, I want to dislike characters or approve of their choices. I like characters who are messy and complex and don't always have their shit together.
I like villains who may have other reasons for their choices, other than "ba ha ha, I am so evil and I will do evil things". Where is Alexius who sold himself to the Elder one, just so he could save his beloved son? Where is Samson, forsaken by the Chantry and turned to red lyrium with his addiction? Where is Calpernia, misguided in her choices, just to free the slaves of Tevinter?
Where are the slaves of Tevinter anyway?? That's another topic.
2. Rook. 4/10.
On one hand, I liked playing Rook. They were stoic but with a humorous side, ready to get the job done, compassionate to other people.
The problem is that it's the only Rook you can really play. The protagonist is set in their ways and their dialogues and there is very little to roleplay. Rook really does feel like a gentle manager, trying to get everyone to play along nicely, while providing therapy every now and then, and is excluded from the majority of friendly interactions with other people. That awkward glance everyone gives you after their banter is embarrassing. The way you can third wheel people, the way the game actively offers you to leave a couple of animated conversations between other people - why even include those? Why not make Rook a part of the 'team'?
I did like Rook's dynamic with Solas. They got to see a different side of him, one that's not presented heavily in Inquisition. But like everything else, it felt surface level and underexplored.
3. Story arc. 2/10.
I am left unsatisfied with the story. The pacing threw me off so much nearly every quest, it was hard to stay on track. From "we need to solve this NOW" to "actually, let's all slow down and deal with our problems", the plot's priorities were all over the place. We kept hearing about the gods and their destructive oppression, but we saw surprisingly little of it. Yes, there was the Blight, yes there were Venatori and the Antaam, but they felt more like a video game fodder and dressing rather than a part of the story.
Not to mention that all of those things made little sense to me. Why would the gods align with aforementioned factions? Why would the aforementioned factions align with the elven gods? In-game explanation was not enough for me, it did not make sense. Not with the established lore in the previous games.
I also did not enjoy the ending. While the idea of Solas binding himself to the Veil is good and does make sense, what was suggested as the good ending (inviting Mythal to deal with Solas essentially) actually left me feeling awful. I sent a man, full of regrets and self-loathing, on a lonely journey to figure himself out. That... did not sit right with me at all. Neither did the fact that Northern Thedas, supposedly the point of the gods' attack, gets to live and flourish, while Southern Thedas is dying of starvation and blight. That is UNHINGED to me.
4. Music. 1/10.
There was no music. I remember one track. It was not memorable whatsoever and I can't believe they hired Hans Zimmer to do exactly nothing. Just wow.
5. Lore. ???/10.
And here is the worst offender. What was done with Dragon Age lore is unacceptable. I was doing a head-in-hands every five minutes. This was a slap in the face of so many fans who enjoyed the three prior games and delved into deep, interesting lore of various races, countries, cultures and religions. Veilguard showed a big middle finger to all that.
Everyone has already touched upon the sanitization of different factions. From the suddenly slaveless Tevinter to found family Antivan Crows, everything has been scrubbed clean and made sweet and palatable and "good".
The Dalish clans have been removed from existence as we know them. The Antaam left the Qun? Don't even get me started on that. The Chantry has no influence in this game? Really? The Chantry? The biggest religion in Thedas? The one that we know has heavy presence in the Anderfels, the Black Divine in Tevinter? That Chantry?
I think it really hit me how disrespectful the game is during the quest of saving the Dalish elves, where apparently Elgar'nan's Venatori, uplifted to be his servants and chosen people, were trying to sacrifice them. It's a gross and oddly telling idea that the ancient Elven god turned to a faction of racist mages to sacrifice elven people. I actually can't believe I'm writing this. Just how much are you going to shaft these people? Mindboggling.
There is a lot more I have to say on this specific topic, and I probably will later, but the idea is this.
6. Romances. 2/10.
Whoever said this is a game with romance lied so hard. So hard. The romance was atrocious. From the badly written flirting to the lack of romantic scenes (I romanced Davrin), to the poorly timed and awkward 'final' romance moment... It was atrocious. I felt no connection between Rook and Davrin beyond what game was telling me. My actual companions got more screen time with their romances than me and my LI.
Damn, even Evka and Antoine, my single most beloved NPCs in this game, had more romance going on that my Rook.
---
All in all, Veilguard was a massive let down. After having enjoyed the first 3 games many times over, with multiple playthroughs, I was so excited to see how the story of the Inquisition, of the elves, would end. When I saw the first trailer for VG, I knew I would never get to see it. When I played the game, I was left with disappointment and disdain.
I'm glad there are people who enjoyed this game, genuinely. I'm sure there's something to find for anyone, but it was not for me. Nor was it for many other people. It was a let down. I feel like I'll never get the conclusion I wanted - so I'll have to write my own I guess.
I have more thoughts on this game that I might be sharing, but for now this is the review I wanted to write. Thanks for reading!

Instead of discourse about showrunners and lesbians and whatever, I'm gonna bring a different type of discourse...whats ur fav and least Dr Whomst monsters. Hard mode: only the practical ones.
ok so I do like all the obvious ones, I like the angels, I like the vashta nerada, I like the not-things, I like the eternals. Here's a few deeper cuts (focusing on the tv show specifically):
they peaked with these maggots. they rock. pretty sure they're made with taxidermy? really great puppetry. I really like this thing:
what a cool design for this kind of forgotten midseason episode.
this is such a fun design for a langolier-type monster. I love how their crest and tail gives them the silhouette of a grim reaper
The 60s cybermen rock. I feel like they're hesitant to use them often in the modern show because they do look very 1960s but I think there's something really uncomfortable and evocative about the cloth faces that's lost when they're cool metallic robots. The mix between looking like an old diving suit and the implication of there being a chopped up person inside is gnarly and I love it. Simple, creepy, iconic design.
My favorite design in the show is probably this:
The 456 from the spinoff series torchwood. They didn't need the puppet to emote or move a ton since it spends the entire season in a little tank obscured in mist, so they just went crazy with the design and made it really bizarre looking. Extremely top tier alien. Anyways, negative. I really don't like this satan. the satan kind of sucks. the impossible planet is great atmospheric sci fi horror; every image of build up in it is haunting and leagues ahead of the climactic scene where he meets the satan. It singlehandedly kind of kills the vibe.
Personally I would have just kept the actual appearance off screen, just have it be eyes in the dark or something. Apparently they also tossed around the idea that it would end up being a normal little girl who was chained up in the cave and I think that would have visually fit the rest of the episode better.
I'm really not big on the modern design for the sea devils (the green one on the right). I think the classic ones clearly took a lot of direct influence from real animals and generally is a pretty thoughtfully realized design, the modern ones seem like they were first and foremost using the classic ones for reference and didn't quite capture the nuance of the design. Sad, as I would really like to see design for these guys with modern puppetry.
I think this is actually a pretty contentious opinion but the work of the specific studio who headed this redesign generally wasn't my favorite. Apparently there was some sort of major, semi public falling out between the fx studio that had been working on the show since 2005 and the people who started running the show in 2018, and they were briefly replaced with a much less experienced studio. No hate to them of course (I think this was actually their first job like, ever, and a lot of the work was done in crunch time?) but the difference did stand out to me:

Polygun but its how they all see each other
i always really like in books with different narrators when how a character looks itself is unreliable narration bc they describe themself differently compared to how the other pov characters see them, and the dungeon meshi shapeshifter chart scratched that itch for me art wise and I got inspired â¨
To be more specific this is what they each picture when they think of each person đđ
Details under cut!!
Meryl clothing details aside because I think sheâs just short and the boys arenât looking at her traveling clothes too hard (and vash clearly likes making his own clothes with how much his overly intricate jacket design changes so ofc his version of her outfit just looks like another one of his designs đ) all of the clothes are based on specific parts of the manga!
A big thing with these designs was taking moments that were important regarding each characters relationship with the pov character and adding in visual nods to that to show what memories stuck with them to shape their image of that person.
The clearest example of this is everyone thinking of a different Vash coat, for Wolfwood itâs what he was wearing when he turned him over to Knives, to Meryl itâs his final fight coat, and for Milly itâs when she met him.
It may be Trimax but I will always have a soft spot for 98 millywood so those twoâs impression of each other has been influenced by that, but more specifically just the idea of them both alone together, layers and walls down, hair messy from sleep. Their relationship is one I just see very clearly developing over a lot of late nights at inns and bars during traveling!
Vash is the trademarked inventor of Savior Martyr Victim complex supreme and when he thinks of everyone he sees times theyâve been let down by him. To me heâs the biggest broken gear in their dynamic because of the way he holds himself back and isolates, the ship really works in spite of him most of the time. But he also sees traces of times his desire to be by their side was cemented. His Meryl is heavily based on after she was kidnapped by the GHGs and he lost control in front of her, but her hair is longer + earrings are gone like when they saw each other again after Knives released the ark, and she has a black turtleneck peaking out from under her traveling clothes the way it did under her space suit during the final battle. His Milly has the hair and undershirt of the final battle but her outer clothes are from when they traveled together for the majority of Trimax. His wolfwood isnât doing too well.
Merylâs versions of Milly and Wolfwood are both pretty similar to how they looked when she first met them, wolfwoods hair is just a little longer like I imagine it being towards the end of Trimax and is very windswept, from their short first meeting in the original Trigun manga run I always got the impression she thought he looked very cool lol, she was staring up at him like ://0 the whole chapter.
I mentioned it before but honestly most of Wolfwoodâs Vash is based on how he looked when he turned him over to Knives, not only do I think that moment stuck with him but I feel like itâs a good visual summary of all the mixed feelings he has towards Vash. Heâs drawn to him and sees how sad he his but he also sees how inhuman he is and the threat he and knives pose for the people he cares about and prioritizes. At the end of the day Wolfwood chose the orphans over Vash twice and never went back on that, and a big part of why he broke Vash our of Knives prison was just so he could go fight Knives to the death for humanityâs sake, and I think thatâs important to his character and their relationship.
Similarly, Merylâs Vash is really just final arc Vash. Sheâd already developed a very strong impression of him before then but they would go weeks to even years without seeing each other and each time the way he looked and the way she felt about him would change drastically, it seemed to me like it wasnât till she was on the ship advocating for him and the people living on gunsmoke that she knew how she felt about him and what kind of person she saw him to be. It was also a huge moment for her character wise with the way she faced her fears in the name of human connection and made the active choice to not be as apathetic and closed off as she realized she had been in the early manga.
I think Millyâs first impression of Vash was strong and accurate enough to not change much, this nice guy is Vash the Stampede and there is definitely something weird about him.
I donât know why Wolfwood doesnât know what Merylâs hair looks like, whatâs wrong with that guy? In general his version of Meryl is very inaccurate now that Iâm looking at it, I promise he likes her
+small details that are my personal headcanon and not the characters interpretations are Meryl and Wolfwoods hair being a bit more curly/textured than canon, Millyâs eyes being green, and Merylâs earrings being silver (gold earrings with a white black and blue outfit and silver guns?? Câmon girl accessorize properly)
#this is Trimax specific#end of Trimax ig but I havenât actually thought out how Iâd draw them all post Trimax#so the references in the corner are just generic#also wolfwood survived ig#Meryl is so short and I donât think the boys are looking too hard at what sheâs wearing#so her clothes are just Made up#but everyone elseâs are specific to canon details I added#also my prev acknowledged headcanon that milly is growing out a blonde phase is evident here#rill'sart#rillâsart#trigun#meryl stryfe#milly thompson#trigun maximum#vash the stampede#nicholas d. wolfwood#polygun#vashwood#millymeryl#stryfewood#Merylwood#milly vash#Vashmilly#mashwood#trimax

So for those that are planning to watch Twilight of the Gods and haven't yet. My review is the following:
It's very much a Zack Snyder plot but without the bad Snyder tropes of past movies (thinking especially of 300 here). It's edgy, has beautiful visuals (Snyder projects often do), and has plenty of equal opportunity sex scenes. Plenty of bi characters. Do they look like they'll kiss? They will and much more...
There are very interesting designs. I loved the voice acting and I'm glad Thor sounds much better than in the trailer (I think they edited what he actually says to avoid spoilers).
My main disappointment is the cliffhanger ending. I hope there's a S2 with some non-cliffhanger ending. I fear for the possibility of Netflix not renewing it and think all Netflix series seasons should never on cliffhangers.
It was definitely made with a lot of research. It takes its liberties, as there's some major differences, but I love how they adapted and altered things from the myths for the story's purposes. A lesser "not-like-Marvel" adaptation would have made Loki a Fire Giant/God a la Wagner. But they had the spider association instead!!
Something I really liked is that they made Loki sympathetic without turning him into an actual child. It's something I've seen a lot, and I'm just like "Cowards, there's plenty to work with without turning him into a child!" Loki feels very much like myth!Loki. He's very sympathetic, but you'll never forget that if he's helping, it's because the goals currently align. You'll be crying at the club for Loki, then go like "Oh shit! WTF Loki!?"
GOW has done antagonist Thor the best so far. For people whose Thor is their blorbo-from-myths (because some follow me), I must warn he's currently very much like Homelander (murderous, physically abusive, predatory) but without a fully developed reason to why he's like that YET. They implied interesting things, such as a fear of eternity and wants to die. If there's a second season, I hope it develops that further to make Thor more interesting. I didn't understand his weird fucked up relationship with Jormungandr, and don't think it was necessary to turn Jormungandr into a sexy snake lady to make Loki and his family sympathetic.
I thought his powers were very cool though and you're like "No wonder this guy is so hard to defeat." Like do you ever go like "How the fuck can this guy with a hammer defeat so many people? The plot armor is ridiculous." Here you won't. Actual storm good powers. And there's some very cool shit like he can do. Fight scenes are great.

thinking abt a punkflower college/tattoo artist/piercer au
hobie's working there for extra cash and miles comes in to get his nose pierced and he has those grey sony headphones covered in hand-drawn graffiti stickers and hobie bluescreens a little bit
and then he finds out that miles can draw. like rlly draw. he double majors in visual arts and graphic design and ofc hobie falls for him a little more bcs he loves him a smart cookie. and THEN they realise they're going to the same school??
gwen knows pav and hobie's friends with pav, ofc miles is friends with gwen; they all attend this arts college in New Brooklyn, gwen does ballet and pav bharatanatyam, hobieâs actually a goddamn violin prodigy majoring in classical music even though he prefers his guitar... anw he probably puts in a good word and gets miles an apprenticeship with their resident tattoo artist
he gets a proper piece from miles once miles is confident enough but he's already covered in tiny doodle tattoos bcs he lets miles practice on him and throughout all this.
they STILL aren't together.
gwen is literally ripping her hair out and yelling MILES HE LET YOU PRACTICE ON HIM. HE LET YOU FREESTYLE DOODLE ON HIS FUCKING SKIN. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE JUST FRIENDS and miles is still all "eeeeh he doesn't like me like that yk? :("
he does.
hobie's been writing love songs about him for months. it's been driving pav up the wall.
in the end gwen and pav have to intervene and literally set them up on a date. world peace is restored as soon as they kiss.

âBECAUSE KUNG FU PANDA 4 KILLED MY GRANDMA, OKAY?
To preface, I watched this movie and I'm genuinely tweaking right now so I had to write down a very brief (lie) criticism on this film â which you should boycott, by the way.
Starting with the things I liked, before briefing my primary points of criticism:
Po's Character Regression
Po and Zhen's Dynamic
The Chameleon
I'd also yap about Lord Shen and the death of the art style and the entire narrative and pacing and use of the staff of wisdom but my therapist says being such a hater is 'unhealthy' or something. My heart is full of hatred.
SPOILERS for the entirety KFP4 for the 2 people who care.
KFP4 undermines and ignores the previous three movies â Unwriting character developments, outright removing the Furious Five, straying from the character design philosophies and is completely inconsistent with the established lore.
Things I Liked About Kung Fu Panda 4
The Chameleon's character design
Visual gag in the Tavern where Po uses a recently thrown axe as a hat rack (made me laugh)
When Mr. Ping did this:
so cute! the little heart!
Po â Character Writing
Po, as established in the previous movies, is confident in his abilities and identity â heâs learnt inner peace, heâs matured as a character. However, in KFP4, his character has completely regressed. Heâs immature again (such as KFP1, possibly worse) and says verbatim, âonly knows kicking butt and taking namesâ â UNLEARNING inner peace and insisting that ââŚbeing the Dragon Warrior is all I know.â
Itâs childish, and sort of Hotel Transylvania-esque.
Which isnât helped by the comedy, the dialogue â a large chunk of which are jokes in the style of:
Master Shifu says something philosophical
Po quips off of it / doesnât get it (i.e. Whoa!! beat I donât know what that means.)
Oh, itâs great, yeah, very tolerable. Poâs shenanigans are normally reeled in by the presence of the Furious Five who are generally more serious in nature, creating a much needed balance in the dynamic â So without them, itâs just Po becoming increasingly obnoxious and insufferable with every consecutive quip throughout the screenplay.
Po and Zhen â Character Dynamics
[No more graphics sorry I'm too angry]
As if it wasnât obvious that Zhen was going to be the next Dragon Warrior the second she was introduced.
Zhen, as a character, has no depth besides being a quippy thief. She quips, she steals. This character has no motives â it can be assumed that the writers intended on a âchange of heartâ thing, but she isnât established as evil, her working for the Chameleon is written as a (albeit poor) twist reveal.
By which point, her taking either side wouldnât make sense, given that she has shown no loyalty or attachment to either Po nor the Chameleon.
The movie artificially strengthens their bond by having Zhen start opening up about her backstory out of nowhere for no reason but they have done nothing to grow closer to each other.
Small tangent, her backstory is exactly what youâd expect it to be with no subversions or even emotional weight. Woe is me I was so small and hungry I had to steal to survive. Glossed over in about a minute.
The majority of the dialogue between Zhen and Po is spoken exposition â explaining how powerful and badass the Chameleon is, explaining how âwe have to go here to do thatâ and âthis place was cool until the Chameleon did such and suchâ, and the rest of their time together is spent engaging in filler chase sequences and fight scenes.
The Chameleon
Where do I even startâŚ
This is where it becomes apparent that the movie relies heavily on telling rather than showing â
She is the weakest villain by far, not only in universe but as a written character; which is particularly disheartening because I genuinely adore her character design and feel as though a shapeshifting character has great potential.
The movie artificially inflates her power by insisting through exposition that this is the most capable antagonist thus far (lie).
The audience is TOLD by Zhen and various restaurant patrons that the Chameleon is a powerful shapeshifting sorceress and that she 'dominates the city' whilst the film does nothing to showcase this.
'Dominating the city' meaning letting her henchpeople run amock and bully the civilians just like Lord Shen's wolves in KFP2... uninspired.
I just realised they didn't even give her a NAME what the FUCK is going on
She describes HERSELF as ruthless, clever and unsentimental when comparing Zhen to herself.
She says HERSELF that sheâs âStronger than every opponent youâve ever faced.â
Letâs see what vile reprehensible things sheâs done, shall we?
Gently push someone down some stairs
Her first appearance is through Zhenâs exposition, as opposed to the dramatic and memorable entrances of the previous villains. Her motives or character arenât established until the final third of the film. She doesnât even FIGHT anybody until the final third of the film; and even then, her fight sequences are uninspired and she never really poses a real threat. (She goes down in two hits.)
That being said, WE CAN STILL SAVE HER GUYS WE CAN STILL GET HER OUTTA THERE I'M COMING FOR YOU CHAMELEON I'M GONNA DRAFT YOU A PROPER BACKSTORY AND MOTIVE AND YOU'RE GONNA BE THE MOST THREATENING VILLAIN THUS FAR
There's a scene after the climax of the film where all the kung fu masters and previous villains from the spirit realm bow to Po. I'm not going to provide my thoughts on this because I fear I may burst a blood vessel. Good day!
Closing Statements
To put it simply, Kung Fu Panda 4 was my Megamind 2.
The film rejects its predecessors in every way. It really feels as though they brought in somebody with no prior knowledge of the franchise to direct the movie.
It's a film that relies heavily on telling rather than showing â banking on the previous three movies to carry it through the box office.
It's just really disheartening to see studio execs turn one of the best franchises into a safe sequel cash grab and regress every character's development.
Nevertheless. I do adore the chameleon's character design so I might do my own take on her character.
As far as I'm concerned, there is no fairy godmother, there is no tooth fairy, and there is no kung fu panda 4.

The Best Panels of One Piece, Romance Dawn (chapter 1-7)

Chapter 1:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
Chapter 1, being the very first one, obviously has quite a few contenders. Luffy's very first Gum Gum Pistol is an obvious one, setting the tone of One Piece's battles with its mixture of goofy and badass. Plus, god damn, even in chapter one Oda knew how to do an epic splash page.
I also like this panel, where Lucky Roux shoots a mountain bandit in the head. This too is a major tone setter, driving home the seriousness and danger of pirate life. The story up to this point mostly plays as fairly lighthearted comedy, and seeing the jolly cartoon fat guy casually murder a man shocks the audience a little bit. Despite the cartoony artstyle, this isn't a kiddy pirate adventure.
But the crown has to go to the passing of the straw hat from Shanks to Luffy. It's a panel that has only ever taken on more meaning as the story has gone on, and the symbol of the straw hat has taken on more and more importance. It represents the promise between Luffy and Shanks to meet again, Shanks recognizing Luffy as an equal, and it's the passing of a torch. That straw hat means something, and Shanks is passing it on to someone who he feels is a worthy heir to that significance. âRomance Dawnâ indeed.
Chapter 2:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
Chapter 2 is all about establishing Luffy's character now that he's grown up, and especially the scale of the odds he's up against. What does his dream to be king of the pirates really mean?
And this is where Oda shows his skill not just as an action and comedy artist, but as a storyteller. He introduces Koby the Cabin Boy, a character who mostly exists to contrast Luffy. Scared, self-defeating and cowardly, even his body language is Luffy's direct opposite.
When Luffy says he will be king of the pirates, Oda drops the angle down low, playing Luffy's chill, unaffected sitting posture against Koby's shouting. His arms are wide, foreshortening even out of the panel as the nervous boy tries to communicate the jaw-dropping scale of what Luffy has said he will accomplish. "Don't tell me you're after the One Piece"?
We feel the weight of Koby's astonishment here, the monumental nature of what Luffy has promised to do. The One Piece isn't a silly bed-time story for children, it is a real thing, and to go after it is to march to almost certain death. And the fact that Luffy is so casual about it, because he has accepted death, is not normal. Luffy is not normal, and Oda establishes this visually through acting in every interaction he has with Koby.
Chapter 3:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
Chapter 3 introduces Zoro with this amazing panel, which, given how much of a martyr he is for the crew and Luffy, WOW what a hell of an establishing shot. But it also establishes one of the great running themes of One Piece, which is the abuse of power, and the value of freedom. Helmeppo lords his status as a navy failson over the townsfolk, abusing his position and status in a way we will see villains in the story do over and over again.
And Luffy does what Luffy will always do to those who use their power in this way. When he learns that Helmeppo lied to Zoro, let him believe he would be free if he survived a month tied up, only to plan an execution behind his backâŚ
This happens.
There are many reasons One Piece is a fun and satisfying narrative to follow, Oda's dynamic and exciting art is a big one for me, but the thing I love the most might the vicious delight the story takes in showing us the ruling classes getting the ass-kicking they so richly deserve.
Chapter 4:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
Chapter 4 gives us perhaps one of the weakest villain designs in the series, which is Axe-Hand Morgan. His obsession with power and control foreshadows many of One Piece's best villains, but⌠hoo boy, not Oda's best character design.
On a better note, though, we're getting one of the most important recurring story beats in the narrative, which is the effect Luffy has on people around him. Koby, who not two chapters ago was a cowering appeasing wretch, walks into the execution grounds to free Zoro because he can't stand to see the navy oppressing people this way. He accepted abuse from Alvida, but no more. Luffy changes the people around him, and the most important thing he does is set them free of their fear. He teaches people to pursue their freedom, even if it costs them their lives. He will do this many times throughout the story, and Koby won't be the last person who almost dies to chase the dream Luffy kindled in them.
Chapter 5:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
In Chapter 5 the obvious choice might be Luffy taking bullets for his friends in the nick of time, which is a very Luffy thing to do, but I think the best panel is something much quieter. We get a flashback to Zoro's backstory, and his rivalry with childhood friend and swordfighting prodigy Kuina, who is idly one of the most transmasculine characters in anime history.
The panel that strikes me the most in this chapter, though, is this one. It's just a little transitional panel, Kuina lying there, dead, with the words "humans are fragile things Zoro" hovering above. Oda uses crosshatching to just barely hint at the eye sockets under the cloth, which otherwise erases Kuina's face, erasing identity, erasing life. It's such a quiet and disquieting panel, such a matter-of-fact reminder of cold mortality in the middle of all Zoro's hotblooded shouting. It's a death that is so meaningless, and Zoro, in taking Kuina's sword with him, is trying desperately to make it meaningful. If he becomes the greatest swordsman in the world, then everyone will know that Kuina was his greatest rival.
I think it's the same reason so many One Piece fans want Tashigi to turn out to be Kuina in the end. Because the idea that people can just vanish from our lives, so coldly and so pointlessly⌠it's a scary thought to have.
Chapter 6:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
In Chapter 6, the easy answer, I guess, is the big epic Oda splash page of the Gum Gum Whip taking out a dozen Marines, but⌠I mean you know it has to be the introduction of the Three Sword Style. Dear Zoro, with his cool bandana and his intense looks and his tragic backstory⌠and here he is with a sword in his mouth.
This is the power of One Piece. Because on the one hand, this is stupid. This is objectively stupid. Holding a sword in your mouth is dumb, this looks dumb, this doesn't work, this is cartoon nonsense that doesn't make any goddamn sense.
On the other hand⌠this totally fucking rules. Oda presents it so perfectly with that hunched over power pose blocking ten swords at once, and the black bandana over his head, although I'll never forgive the translators for covering this much of the art over with sound effects. You miss the rope still falling from his body and the scabbards still in the air from Zoro unsheating them so fast. This panel bypasses every critical neuron in my brain, and speaks to the primal, stupid lizard and monkey part of my man brain that goes "ooooh, three swords cool!" And nobody does that like Oda.
Chapter 7:
What are the best panels in One Piece?
Chapter 7 sees our first parting of ways, with Koby remaining behind to enlist in the Marines. It's mostly an exposition chapter, a cool down from all the action with Axe Hand Morgan, but Oda once again uses what could be boring exposition to do good character building. Because Luffy and Zoro are pirates, they can't stay in a navy town, and as they leave, Luffy begins to spill the beans on how Koby was a cabin boy for a pirate, which might ruin his chances to enlist. And Koby, desperately torn up about saying goodbye to his first real friend⌠punches Luffy to shut him up. Which then becomes evidence that Koby isn't with them, isn't a pirate, so he can enlist.
It's the first moment Koby fully asserts himself, it's the first punch he throws for his dream as a Marine, but it is also a moment of revelation. However simple-minded Luffy seems, so straightforward and oblivious, here he reveals a deep understanding not only of other people but of the things they need, the push they need to find their courage. He pushes Koby's buttons to force him to commit to his dream, to force him to renounce piracy, and when Koby does⌠Luffy couldn't be more proud. And maybe a little smug.

đNew Dave Miller design (+doodle)!!
IM SO GIDDY AND SO IN LOVE WITH HIM RN AAAA FUNKY MALE FASHION FOR THE WIN
Was so bored of my old Dave Miller design, like sure he looked pathetic which was perfect for his character but also- I wasnât maximizing his full potential!! The simplicity of his original outfit was meant to be part of his decline but- I shifted gears and what I wanted to convey.
My favorite change is giving him majority gray hair like YESSS SERVING OLD MAN REALNESS AT ONLY MIDDLE AGE- the stress and his illness and all that just catches up to him and makes him go completely gray and look a little older than he is XD his old hair I gave him bothered me so much and looked so bad in not even a good way
Wanted so badly to give him some of his style and whimsy back and I really feel like I managed to do that here!! Personality-wise heâs still the same pathetic Dave Miller, just with more visual pizazz! Couldnât make his skin too pale and gray unfortunately since it blended with his hair but- ah well! IM SO HAPPY WITH HIM GRRRR
Got told he gives butch lesbian aunt vibes and yeah, he does. Best lesbian ever đâ¤ď¸đ

wishful thinking. (05)
chapter five: say what you mean
summary: the instruction was plain and simple: no strings attached. but you shouldâve known from the beginning that it could never apply to you and him.
pairing: minho x f!reader rating: 18+ (minors dni) genres/warnings: friends to lovers, friends with benefits au, college au; fluff, angst, smut; mentions of sex, kissing, weâre starting to dip our toes into angsty territory !!, less edited than iâd like but whatâs new lol word count: 2.8k
as always, iâd appreciate any thoughts or comments you may have, and please drop a like and/or reblog if you enjoy reading âĄ
navigation / series masterpost / taglist
Get me a drink, I get drunk off one sip, just so I can adore you I want the entire street out of town just so I can be alone with you Now go when youâre ready My headâs getting heavy, pressed against your arm Just to adore you, I adore you
Adore - Dean Lewis
Whenever Minho asks if you two could hang out together at your place, it usually means that you will end up in your bed.
Tonight you suppose is no different.
Even though you often cap off the night having engaged in activities that could make the Victorian lady in Hyunjin faint, itâs not all that you do. Both you and Minho never let yourselves forget that youâre friends first and foremost. Sex is the added benefit that should never take anything away from your friendship. He is still one of the people youâre most comfortable with, one of the few people whose company you enjoy.
Youâre sprawled out on the couch in your small living room when Minho returns from the kitchen with a plate of freshly peeled tangerines, the same ones that he brought over earlier. You push yourself to half-sit up so he could squeeze himself between you and the armrest, before you go back to laying your head on his lap as you two resume watching a bad movie that you put on.
âI hate this so much,â you comment, your eyes glued to the TV screen.
âYou picked the movie,â Minho says. âItâs not that bad. The plot is kind of decent.â
âIâm not talking about that. Jeez, if they wanted to make a movie where the main character is a graphic designer, youâd think that they would at least consult someone who knows literally anything about visual art. Look at that horrendous typography job, the text isnât even aligned with the edges and corners. This is hurting my soul.â
Your cushions (Minhoâs thighs) shake lightly as he laughs at your dramatic outburst over something as trivial as a fictional characterâs poor standards of digital art. But you really arenât kidding; the way the woman on screen is butchering the text alignment is quite literally making that very particular part of your brain want to shut down for the next five to seven business days.
âThey shouldâve consulted you first, is that right?â Minho asks.
âThey really should have. I couldâve done wonders for them,â you say matter-of-factly. âI almost majored in graphic design, yâknow.â
You have a habit of biting your tongue around others because you know that people donât really care about the same things you do. Whenever the opportunity arises for you to share tidbits about your interests, excitement would tumble out of you only to be quashed soon after when no one wants to listen to your silly little rambles. Itâs disheartening, youâre used to it.
But you never feel that way around Minho. He always lets you babble on about anything and everything, even if he might not know what the hell youâre talking about. He indulges you. He never makes you feel neglected or ignored.
âHmm, my little genius artist.â He taps your cheek once, and when you turn your head to glance at him, he tells you to open up before he slips a slice of tangerine past your lips. âYouâre right. Even I can tell that itâs horrendous.â
You hum appreciatively when the sweetness of the juicy fruit floods your tastebuds. Minhoâs hand trails down your arm to rest on your stomach, just below your ribs where he fiddles with the worn fabric of your sleep shirt. If he moves his hand up, he would be grazing your bare chest underneath your shirt. You didnât bother with a bra because, well, comfort above all else, especially within the four walls of your own home. Besides, itâs nothing that Minho hasnât seen anyway.
He keeps on feeding you tangerines in between your complaints about bad design standards until the movie ends and the plate is cleared. The only sound in the room is the soft music on the TV as the credits start to roll.
You turn to lie on your back, staring up at Minho. âThat was deeply disturbing.â
âYou chose it,â he reminds you. âYou went in knowing what the premise was.â
âYeah, I have no one to blame but me. I had too much faith in humanity.â
âAnd you call me weird.â
âYou are weird,â you say. âBut I like weird.â
Minho looks down at you and for a moment, he says nothing. His fingers trace something on your stomach. A heart or an odd circle, you donât know; youâre always bad at deciphering those. His eyelids fall a bit, softening the usual sharpness of his gaze.
Then heâs pulling you by your shoulders, guiding you to sit up and before you know it, youâre situated on his lap with one of his hands on your waist, the other on the back of your neck. Minho tugs you closer, meeting your lips in a kiss in which you waste no time returning.
Heâs sweet, like the tangerines that you were sharing all evening. It tends to start like this - sort of randomly, whenever it feels right. He squeezes your side in a comforting gesture as his tongue slips into your mouth. There are times where itâs more urgent, where one of you is needy and desperately seeks the escape and release that can only be found in the otherâs embrace. Other times, itâs slower, more gentle, where you can really focus on making each other feel fully satiated.
This, right now - you would pinpoint somewhere in the middle. Thereâs no fiery clothes-ripping urge, nor a need to lay the other person bare and knead every single knot of stress from their system. Today, thereâs just languid wanting; an unhurried inclination to be close.
Him and his tangerine flavored kiss, you and your resolve built on shaky foundation.
You start rolling your hips over his, tugging on his shirt because you want to feel his skin against yours. Minho stops you though; he puts both hands on your hips and pulls his lips away from yours. You blink, dazed, confused.
âI...â he starts, trying to even out his breathing as he finds the words. âI donât want to have sex tonight.â
Embarrassment instantly washes over you. The rejection is a little humiliating; itâs the first time youâve ever felt like this around him. Your cheeks catch fire from the mortification, and youâre very aware that youâre still sitting in his lap, right over his crotch.
Wanting to climb off of him and just fucking bury yourself in a ditch, you start stuttering like an absolute fool, âOh... Y-yeah, no, of course! Shit, shit, Iâm sorry. Of course we donât have t-â
Minho holds you in place, one of the hands on your hips goes to cup your cheek to make you look at him. It effectively shuts you right up.
âSorry. I shouldnât have phrased it like that,â he says, his thumb brushing over your cheekbone in an earnest apology. âI just want to keep kissing you. Is that okay?â
Youâre at a loss for words. Heâs holding your face, your waist, so delicately. He looks drunk on your presence alone even though neither of you have had a single drop of alcohol tonight, so sincere in his simple request that you feel your heart swell tenfold.
You want it too. Youâre more than okay with just kissing him.
You donât answer him verbally. Instead, you just nod and move to kiss him again, your hands tangled in his soft hair. The sweetness of the tangerines grows more and more distant as you chase his lips, but you can taste his smile. Itâs infinitely more saccharine, and it only grows sweeter when he holds you close and knocks the breath out of you.
When you pull away for air, you slump against him, hiding your face in the crook of his face, shy all of a sudden. He keeps you there but continues with his onslaught of kisses - on your hair, your cheek, your neck, anywhere his lips can reach. Like he simply canât get enough of you.
âYou really like kissing,â you comment, giggling quietly as you do. âEven when we⌠yâknow, bone.â
âBone? Youâre so romantic, babe.â You feel the rumbles of Minhoâs chest as he lets out a hearty laugh, the sound of which fills the space of your modest home, embeds itself in every nook and crevice, in between every minuscule crack in your walls until the whole place feels warmer, brighter somehow. âAre you complaining?â
âNo... just pointing it out.â
âWell, I like kissing you,â he says. âYouâre not a terrible kisser, I guess.â
You sit up straighter and catch the teasing grin on his face before you roll your eyes. âGee, thanks. You really know how to sweet talk a girl.â
âSays the girl who uses âboneâ to describe sex.â
âItâs a perfectly good euphemism for âsexâ.â
âYou might as well just say âboinkâ.â
âLiterally shut up.â
âSure.â
Then heâs pressing his mischievous smile against your mouth once more, and you canât really wrap your mind around how itâs even possible that he keeps getting sweeter and sweeter. His sugary kisses send warmth tingling up your spine, make a fluttery sensation erupt in your stomach. Youâre lightheaded, and not the kind that can be remedied by a sufficient fix of blood oxygen.
Even though youâre perfectly content with kissing, thereâs a certain implication that comes with only kissing that youâre not sure what to do with. Heâs literally inside of you on a weekly basis and yet, this feels much more intimate than anything you two have ever done.
Because friends donât kiss each other the way heâs kissing you right now. Friends donât kiss each other the way youâre kissing him back.
A chime from your phone breaks you two apart, the intrusion forcing a mildly frustrated grunt from Minho. You find the mobile device hidden between the cushions of your couch, and after you quickly scan the notification on the screen, you tell him, âItâs Hyunjin.â
âWhat did I say? Itâs always him at the scene of the crime,â Minho mutters, speaking in the same tone that one would when their sibling interrupts a round of their favorite video game. âWhat does he want?â
âJust wants me to send him a photo of the sample portfolio from our class.â
âIgnore him. He can wait.â
âHeâll call me if I donât reply.â
âHeâs so annoying,â Minho grumbles but loosens his hold on you nonetheless. âHurry back.â
âItâll only take a minute, you big baby,â you chuckle, pressing a swift peck to his lips before you get up from the couch and head toward your bedroom with your phone in hand, searching for the binder that Hyunjin is asking about.
Once youâve snapped the picture and sent it to your friend, you return to the living room. When Minho hears your footsteps, he holds out an arm, silently beckoning you into his embrace again. And you do. You slide into the space next to him, slotting perfectly against his side.
Your fingers absentmindedly trace along his forearm until they reach his wrist. âThis is pretty,â you say, touching the thin link bracelet that he always wears, the one with a small charm hanging off the center in the simple outline of a dove.
âYou like it? Iâve had it for ages.â
âMhmm, it suits you.â
A moment passes where you both sit in silence as you fiddle with the gold jewelry, and you can feel Minhoâs eyes on your face the entire time. After a while, he pries your fingers off his skin, only to swiftly take off the trinket.
âNo, Min. What are you doing?â
He doesnât answer you. You attempt (in vain) to pull your wrist back but Minho is stronger. He holds it in place as he clasps the chain around your wrist.
âMinho, you are not giving me your bracelet.â
âRelax. Itâs not like it was passed down from my great-great-grandfather. Itâs just a random bracelet I bought when I was 18.â
âWhy would you even give me your bracelet?â
He shrugs, as though heâs merely doing something as simple as letting you borrow you a pen. âIt looks good on you.â
You look down to where his hand is still on your skin, his thumb gently sliding over your pulse point as he admires how the dainty gold reflects the dim lighting in your home.
And heâs right. It does look good, but he probably doesnât mean it in the same way that youâre thinking of right now. You think it looks good because itâs something that belongs to him thatâs now wrapped snugly around your wrist, like some sort of affirmation spoken in a language that only the two of you can understand.
Minho leans over and presses his warm lips to your forehead. It takes you by surprise, the way he does it as if itâs second nature to be this affectionate with you. Itâs a tipping point, then suddenly your thoughts are running rampant.
The instruction has always been plain and simple: No strings attached.
But...
The chaste kisses with no expectation of sex, being protective when youâre in the presence of other guys, even giving you his bracelet to wear just because you said it was pretty.
Why do all of these sound an awful lot like strings?
You hesitate, then you ask, âWhat are we doing?â
âHmm? You wanna watch another movie?â
âNo, thatâs not... What are we doing?â You donât even know what word to put more emphasis on.
Minho looks at you and loosens his fingers. What he canât understand through your words, you think he sees it in your eyes. âSay what you mean.â
âAre we friends?â
âOf course we are.â
âAre we still friends?â
âDo you not want to be friends anymore?â He cracks a smile, but you can tell that heâs just doing it to lighten you up. âYou have terrible timing. I literally just gave you a bracelet.â
âFriends donât do that.â
âFriends donât give each other bracelets?â
âFriends donât kiss like that.â
Minho seems a bit taken aback, though he regains his composure in mere seconds, his voice calm as he tells you, âFriends donât have sex either.â
âWhat are you saying?â
âI donât know. What are you saying? You brought it up.â
You open your mouth, only to subsequently close it because your thoughts were never really that coherent in the first place. You look away from him to glance down at your wrist.
âYouâre being confusing,â Minho says quietly, honestly.
âI just⌠I donât want anything to change.â
âDid anything change for you?â he asks.
âNo,â is what you tell him after a long minute, when what you really mean to say is I donât know. You can see it as it happens, some stars fading from his eyes, some light growing more faint in his irises. Though the despondence on his face disappears so fast that youâre not sure if it was even there at all, or if it was only a figment of your imagination.
Then you throw the question back at him. âDid anything change? For you?â
Minhoâs answer is the same as yours - a clear No - and yet, it makes you feel like youâve been punctured by something sharp. You donât know why your heart drops upon hearing him say the exact same thing that you did, but you try not to let it show on your face. Your poker face isnât anywhere as good as his, but you hope that itâs enough.
You give him a tight-lipped smile and nod a little.
âThen nothingâs changed.â He strokes your hair, emphasizing his point with a soft smile as he reassures you, âAnd nothing has to change. Itâs a bracelet, donât overthink it. Weâre good.â
Sometimes, the decisions you make are bad because you can foresee the outcomes, or at least, you have an idea of the consequences will be later on and yet, you still choose to go through with it anyway.
Just like how you chose to watch a movie you knew would drive you crazy with its trivial details, you choose to accept the feeling of Minhoâs bracelet around your wrist. You choose to believe him when he said nothing has changed, and that nothing has to change. You choose to sweep under the rug the thoughts that youâve been having about him lately. You choose to overlook the reason why youâve been having those thoughts instead of facing it head-on because youâre terrified of what youâd find if you dig deeper.
You choose to let the conversation end here though it still lingers in your mind, and you choose to let him kiss you goodnight when he leaves because tonight has already been a series of bad decision after bad decision anyway.
And when you fall asleep, itâs the soothing coolness of the golden dove against your skin that lulls you to slumber, like heâs here right beside you to hold you through the night.

So just came from seeing Wild Robot and a few things, SPOILERS for books and movie ahead btw
I will preface this by saying it was a fantastic film that I absolutely loved, the visuals were mindblowing and made me jealous of the practiced skill of the animation team
Anyway my biggest complaint for the movie (and I get why they did it) was the moment where the literal power of love wakes up the deactivated Roz, I really liked the book Roz that genuinely was still a robot to her core, emotionless and robotically logical but nevertheless falling into the patterns of motherhood due to her AI learning from nature
They did the power of love in the books too, it helped the animals overcome their fear and work together to pull off some epic battle tactics which weren't in the movie, like for the final fight of book one they had Nettle the bear's self sacrifice to take out the RECO only to be saved by the river fish was awesome, and all the birds raining bird poop all over the sensors of another one only to lead it blind into a muddy bog so it can be kicked to death by the moose, final battle in movie (while visually fantastic) lacked any of that strategy the animals learned from Roz
I had hoped they'd have focused more on the "helping others is a survival skill" aspect and the learning curve that took her from robot to wild robot, but the themes of motherhood were beautifully done
Oh and ROZ's camouflage skills, where was the intentional mud and moss coating of her body making her look like a cyborg treant, I mean they do the character design with moss and dirt by the end but they just accumulate over time naturally... instead of Roz just slathering herself with it and being a bush around which the animals all gossip
Also one last note, in the book Longneck is killed by a human with a rifle, Robots can't harm living creatures is a major plotpoint in the books, its a barrier Roz has to overcome and the RECOs are even subject to it which is why the animals had a shot against them in the first place, this is a plot point that the movie Brightbill even states out loud right before a robot pops out and shoots Longneck, like wtf
Other things I wish they kept from the book:
Brightbill turning Roz off and on again and temporarily thinking he committed matricide
Roz vs the bears during the learning curve
The learning curve
Roz and Brightbill bonding over the shared experience of being the only surviving "egg"
Roz being the goddamn prometheus of this islands critters literally teaching them to harness fire
Things the movie added that I liked
Brightbill acting like a robot
Fink the fox being a fully realised character (tho at the cost of some other favs)
Felling the tree to redirect the river to stop the forest fire
Vontra, just everything about it
The stickers for 10% off your next universal designs purchase
Brightbill helping build the lodge
"I am low on power, have made unsanctioned alterations to my code, and have been damaged in ways that have likely voided my warranty" "what she means is she loves you"
Pinktail Possum was great and so were her kids
"Are you here to kill us?" Whether your answer is yes or no, you're about to get yeeted by a moose
"HELLO I AM ROZZUM UNIT 7134 DO YOU NEED ASSISTANCE!" While chasing down random animals
Roz "I am not a mother I am a robot, I must be recalled at once"
Pinktail "no you're a mom now"
Roz "understood I am a mom now"
Still a great movie just wish they kept Roz a robot through and through and just kept with the whole "she doesn't need to have emotions to be a good mom" thing
Definitely recommend a watch of it

Who in the twdg series have some of your favorite character designs? (Aside from Vi and Clem lol) Can be side characters + major!
i actually LOVE the character designs of S4 in general the whole cast is so visually strong. gonna use my old line up so you can see what im talking about without a layer of dirt and grime covering everyone (just imagine lillys here shdfjsk)
each character is immediately distinct in a crowd (which is important when theres a lot of crowd shots and you need to recognize everyone quickly (they also do a really good job with shot composition they can fit so many characters in one frame comfortably đ))
but also the use of color? look at how certain characters are sharing colors and patterns and straight up whole palettes. so while the characters still remain distinct from one another, you can See connections between them just through their designs. tenn and minerva i think are the most obvious example of that here. but something else i like is how aj changes from his blank white sweater to his red purple and green (if you choose the disco broccoli shirt but like.. i feel like thats the most popular choice anyway) top. clem vi and louis' colors become part of his palette as hes growing and learning. thats so cool!! plus shout out to clems S4 fit intentionally made to mirror lees fit. the narrative is dooming
ive always enjoyed the character designs in twdg theyve always been strong (its what taught me the importance of layering clothes, which was apparently a Rule for the designers). i just feel like S4 was really successful with it
#this color theory is also partially why i believe in the connection between willy and james#if james came back i think willy would follow him around and want to learn from him#they spent 2 seconds together in the woods and willy couldnt be normal about it#replies with lexi#pook1sm#twdg
