it still sticks in my craw that the show writers took this dialogue, bastardized it, and gave it to Arya and Tywin instead of Theon and Roose, thereby completely missing the point of the scene.

(i mean, i get it. charles dance is a good actor and they wanted to use him, and this is a memorable bit of dialogue. but it went to show that even in season 2 the show runners were prioritizing snappy moments over character development)

To spell it out - in this scene Roose has just seen how his bastard son has transformed Theon, not just physically but mentally as well. Roose knew Theon from before when he was Reek, so he knows how much a change Ramsay has wrought. In this scene Roose is both probing the extant of the damage as well as seeing if he can similarly get Theon to transform himself for him. The point: do not be fooled by the soft voice and quiet demeanor. Roose takes as much pleasure in toying with people and subjugating them as Ramsay does. There’s also a hint of competitiveness with Ramsay as well - Roose finds Ramsay’s methods too crude, too obvious. He’s showing he can do the same thing without any open brutality.

Game of Thrones fans how did you want the series to end? What would you change if you could redo the final two seasons? I genuinely want to know what people wanted the end to be. I did not like how it ended but I'm still not sure how I wanted it to end.

thinking about how the show introduced Tywin skinning a deer while dressing down Jaime…..now book!Tywin would never do that, he doesn’t work with his hands, touching dead things is for servants and lesser beings (non-Lannisters). but it IS the sort of thing a Charles Dance character would do. therefore the show should have cast Charles Dance as Roose Bolton. in this essay i will
