Happy (early) 14th Birthday Gumi!!! 🎂🐰🥕💚🧡🩷
Tumblr media
In Japan it is already officially June 26th and I wanted to go ahead to upload this since I finished the drawing earlier than I thought ^^"
I based myself on several songs as you can see, although my main dam was in the PV cover of @pierrotsdrawer for Gumi and Yuuma's outfist, some clips she has shown on Twitter, even a cameo of her! x3
Originally I was going to do a comic that would continue the one I did last year...but I couldn't because of the whole class thing and last semester to finish (talking about that now, I'll catch up on that ;u;)

a spritz of peppermint | megumi fushiguro x reader
pt.6 of christmas event! cw: petnames i think idk, not proofread, there’s probably other stuff i’m missing but wtv happy birthday the prettiest king pls come back the food is cold
Tumblr media
today is a very special day.
megumi notices that you rise early— mostly because when he wakes up in the morning, rubbing his sleep-heavy eyes groggily with a groan, he notices you’re not there. he rolls over, and smacks his face into cold sheets, devoid of your heat.
it pisses him off. so he starts his special day out as a grouch.
when he eventually crawls out of bed and makes his way into the kitchen after pulling on some sweats, though— he stops just short of the threshold to that sweet smelling cozy haven you love to spend your time in. the scent of pine needles and fresh chocolate orange wafts across the space, warm and welcoming and awfully wintery. he’s impartial to the cold— but he likes seeing your nose get red, so he guesses that’s one point positive.
“megumi?” your soft voice drifts across the open space, and the frost around his grumpy heart melts just a little; a crack in the frozen surface of the lake.
he reluctantly emerges from the shadow of the hallway, past the bundle of mistletoe hanging from the ceiling. the thought causes a memory to flash across his mind— your sweet smile and your prettier laugh; a distinct feeling of fuzzy warmth like a knitted sweater spreading across his cheeks when you pulled him close by the sleeve of his shirt and leaned in—
he shakes his head, trying to dash the stray thought. he’s supposed to be mad. it has no right to be there.
“why’d you get up so early?” he sighs heavily as he joins you at your side, scratching the back of his neck and running a hand through his unruly hair. you smiled sheepishly, turning to face him and you wrap your arms around his middle, squeezing lightly as a silent apology. he takes it with a grumble, snaking his arms around your waist and resting his face in your hair to bask in the scent of home before pulling away.
“it’s a secret.” you grinned, and he glares down at you, clicking his teeth in annoyance. you just laugh like the angel you are, leaving no room for guilt. you’re wearing one of his sweaters; you smell like him, and he supposes it makes up for the way you ditched him this morning.
“i expect compensation.” he grumbles, leaning against the counter as he watches you move about the kitchen, pale winter sunlight painting you like an ethereal dancer beneath the surface of misty lake water, crystal clear in your beauty. it’s mesmerizing.
you laughed, and his teeth dig into his bottom lip. “what, missed me? were you feeling lonely, gumi?” you smiled.
he just shoots you a piercing glare, the color of icicles in his eyes, but the warmth of your grin melts it away. you spend the next few moments in a comfortable silence, preparing a french toast topped with sweet berries and powdered sugar that looks so soft megumi could probably sink into it, until your lovely voice breaks the crisp morning silence.
“want black coffee?”
that’s weird. he never hesitates. and you know he takes his coffee black; of course you do. not because he wants to look cool, or look suave in another person’s eyes… well, except for you, of course. but not in the area of caffeine doses. and to be perfectly clear, all he needs is a dose of you to get him going.
he clears his throat. “can you make me hot chocolate?”
you pause, and he almost wants to bite his tongue off. why is he so embarrassed? but you just chuckle, like morning bird song across fresh dew on the grass.
“switching it up, huh? that’s cute.” you hum, and his face burns hot like embers in a brick fireplace. he coughs, throat scratchy like the pricks of a pinecone— but you make no note of it, simply going about your day.
he’s content to watch as you fish around in the rum-colored cabinets, pulling out a crinkly bag of cocoa powder. you put him on milk microwaving duty and he busies himself, lithe pale fingers unscrewing the carton of milk and pouring it into his favorite little painted dog mug. you were the one who’d made it; that silly little ceramics class you insisted on taking clearly didn’t help you too much in the way of smoothing down the bumps and blotches on the mug, but it holds your fingerprint, so he might as well memorize the shape of your hands when you’re not there.
megumi’s snapped back to reality when you grab a candy cane from the mini tree you decorated together sitting on the kitchen counter, smashing it up in the wrappings to mix the pepperminty dust with the cocoa powder. he eyes the pile of holiday drug warily as he brings the steaming mug over, placing it before you and leaning against the counter again to watch you work your mystery magic.
“that looks like brown cocai—”
“shh, megumi. keep your pretty mouth shut, please.”
he’s about to butt in again, lips parted before he presses them together irritatedly and resigns to sulk in silence.
you pour the hot chocolate mix into the milk, swishing it together as it forms a pretty spiral of cocoa; the color of dark chai and chocolate tart. he’s content to watch in silence, humming some christmas carol he’d overheard you listening to one gray afternoon— until he realizes you’re opening a bag of those sickeningly sweet and fluffy marshmallows he’d bought you on a whim. he only did it because his mentor told him they made the best gifts, but he’s beginning to realize it was the sweet tooth talking.
“hey— wait… are you going to put those in there, pretty?” he asks, putting a gentle hand on your wrist to stop you from vigorously emptying the bag into his poor victimized hot chocolate mug.
you glance up at him and flash a toothy grin, giving him one of those looks that makes his heart skip a beat. “trust me, gumi! you’re gonna love it.” you laughed, shrugging his hand off, and his lips curve downward. less because of the marshmallows that are toppling into his mug with a splash and more so because you freed yourself from his grasp.
obviously, you notice— your eyebrows knit together, a pinch of guilt weighing upon them like the snow on the streets outside. but it’s wiped away as quickly as it comes; before he knows it, you’re walking away with a bounce in your step, disappearing behind the counter before re-emerging with something behind your back.
“don’t look so sad, gumi. here,” you say, the cadence of your voice as soft and playful as he ever remembers it being when you pull a bunch of roses from behind your back. the bouquet is small and there’s dirt clinging to the stems— but his heart melts at the thought that you hand-picked them, prickly thorns and all, for him. “happy birthday,” you whispered, and his walls break.
“you’re not so different from them, you know.” you hummed, smiling as he takes them from you and gives you an inquisitive, quiet look. “you might be a little prickly on the outside, but you’re just as beautiful. you just have to look a little past the thorns.”
he feels his face flush; at this point, it’s probably as red as the stray candy cane shavings melting in his mug and the vibrant petals of the roses. he splutters and mumbles something annoyed under his breath, but he’s sure you can hear the undercurrent of fondness and affection weaves into each syllable like the beats of his heart, where you’re so close to. megumi thinks you might’ve just cut him open and made a home in his ribcage.
the bunch of handpicked roses for his special day sit on the marble counter dusted with cocoa powder and candy cane shavings, marshmallows bobbing at the surface of his hot chocolate like apples in a bucket as he wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you in to press his lips insistently to yours, slow and tender like the way he always loves you. his hands curl around your sides, as if to ground you there; freeze the time in this bubble of warmth, forgetting the chill outside to warm his hands on your skin. you’re so little in his arms; he wants to hold you and never let you go, to keep you under his tree and have you make hot chocolate for him instead of black coffee every morning he wakes up, because it’s fine if you’re not there in bed— as long as you’re waiting for him with open arms elsewhere.
and when he kisses you, he realizes he might not need his hot cocoa to warm his stomach— your lips are as soft and pillowy sweet as the marshmallows melting in his mug, filled with steaming hot cocoa and all the love he could ever wrap his heart in this cozy winter; his christmas gift to you.
he’s grateful today is a special day, if only because of you and his sweet little painted dog mug filled with your heartwarming love.

Hi Kasey! I'm so happy to see you active again, I missed seeing you on my dash! I saw your headcanon requests are open, and lately I've been DYING over the thought of Yuuji Itadori as the "brother's best friend" trope. Like maybe you're Megumi's lil sister, and Yuuji is always so sweet and includes you whenever he's hanging out with 'Gumi. And eventually one night big brother falls asleep early and you finally get a moment alone with Yuuji and it turns romantic?
Hi! I’m glad to be back! I’ve been bored today and I just knew writing would be good to start up, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Thank you for requesting!! I had so much fun writing this and I really hope you enjoy it!
I swear to you, just the other night I was in the kitchen around 3 am when I couldn’t sleep and I was thinking about how the best friends brother trope is one of my favorites and how I need to write a story on it
But older brothers' best friend? An even better trope that I didn’t even think of at the moment. You’re amazing for this and I love you. Mwah mwah.
This one is a tad longer, so I'm going to put a read line below this. It's all SFW!
<>~<>~<>
Megumi is the kind of mean, but protective older brother. So when Itadori invites you along everywhere, he rolls his eyes and grumbles a “Fine, she can come.” Itadori always makes sure to include you in on stories as well. Inside jokes that Megumi and him make, he makes sure to explain to you. At first your crush was minimal. You brushed it off with the thought of “He’s just so sweet. I don’t have feelings for him, he’s just nice to me.”
But then when he came to your 19th birthday pool-party and he took a photo with you without a shirt on, you knew that your previous assumption hadn’t been so right. You hid in the bathroom for fifteen minutes, trying to shake it away. He was Megumi’s best friend, he was two years older than you. Why would he feel the same way?
You felt stupid, started to avoid him more often. You hid in your room when he visited and made up excuses as to why you couldn’t go with them to places when he invited you. Sometimes you swore he seemed a bit sad when you brushed him off, but you figured it was an excusable reason; he was a people-person after all. A kind, inviting man that you adored.
Avoiding him was hard on you. So when he found you one night watching the stars when you didn’t know he was over and asked you why you had been avoiding him in a slightly hurt tone, you broke.
“I have a crush on you, Yuji,” you blurted out with flushed cheeks. “It’s stupid, so I just… I’ve been avoiding you because I didn’t want to be weird. I thought it would stop me from feeling so…” You stopped and sighed, hanging your head. “It’s dumb.”
“It’s not dumb,” he said softly, stepping closer and taking a seat on the grass beside you. “I didn’t know you felt that way. How, uh… how long?”
“My birthday party last year.” Itadori chewed on the inside of his cheek and stole a quick glance at you, intending to speak before you cut him off. “Go back inside– I’m sure that my brother is looking for you.”
“Oh– he’s asleep. He’s been knocked out since 10. I was getting some water and I saw you and I thought… now would be a good time to talk.”
“I’m sure you weren’t expecting this.” You spoke softly.
“Honestly, no. I was expecting you to tell me that you hated me. That I was annoying, not that you had a crush on me. I didn’t think you’d ever– I mean, you’re gorgeous– I didn’t think you could ever feel that way about a guy like me.” you looked at the man, baffled.
““A guy like you,” Itadori?” You nearly scoffed in shock. “You’re amazing. You’re so kind, you’re so funny. You always make everybody feel so welcome when you’re around. Everybody loves you, even Megumi and he hates everybody.” With a soft laugh, Yuji humbly shook his head.
“Megumi and I met a long time ago. I had a lot of time to get him to warm up to me.”
“But it isn’t just that. It isn’t that you tag along with him when he goes places. It’s that you’re just… you’re impossible to not like. And avoiding you has been shit,” you spoke honestly. “I’ve hated every second of hiding away from you.”
“I guess… you probably wouldn’t believe me then if I said that I’ve missed you a lot lately. That I… well, that I could ever have feelings for you, too. That maybe I’ve had a bit of a crush on you.” With a soft scoff, you looked down.
“I can’t even imagine why you would like me.”
“Are you kidding?” Yuji asked with raised eyebrows. “You’re amazing. You’re so talented. You’re so pretty. You get all of my jokes and you always laugh at even my stupid ones. I can’t imagine why everybody isn’t in love with you.” Immediately, you flushed and averted eye contact again. “And I mean… that does include me. I can’t say I’ve never been attracted to you. I’d be lying if I said that, actually. I have had a crush on you before, but I didn’t think it could ever go anywhere so I just ignored it.” His words nearly made you tear up.
Had you simply been too late? If you had told him the truth before, could you have hit it when he had feelings for you, too? If you had toughened up and prepared for rejection, could you be somewhere completely different with him now? Snuggled up on the sofa while Megumi sleeps?
“You know… if you let me kiss you… maybe I could remember all of how I really felt towards you. I had really strong feelings for you once. I can’t imagine it would be hard to feel them again.”
“Jesus, Yuji…” You mumbled softly. “You really know how to be blunt.” Gently, the man reached for your face and made you look at him.
“Do you want me to be any other way?” With a soft gulp as his eyes peered intensely, softly, into your own, you shook your head.
“No.”
Before you could even fully register what happened, Itadori leaned in and pressed his lips to yours. It took you only a moment to wrap your arms around the man and pull him closer. The last thing that you expected of tonight was his hands grasping at your sides, and yet here you were. Finally kissing the man you could have sworn you loved, wondering when you might wake up.
But you never did. Not until the man brought you to your room, kissed you goodnight and left you alone with flushed cheeks for the rest of the night. That morning, you barely believe that he pressed a kiss to your cheek, and yet Megumi’s wide eyes confirmed.
“What the fuck?”

Knock knock
“Hey there, pretty girl,” Toji greets in the doorway of his home, stepping to the side for you to enter. “Come on in.”
“Hey Toji.” Your smile grows brighter at the sight of Megumi rushing down the hall into your open embrace. “Happy birthday, ‘Gumi.”
Tumblr media
“Thank you,” he mumbles into your shirt. Toji reaches out, freeing up the presents from your hand.
“You came!” a familiar sounding voice shouts with vivid excitement. You match it to Yuji, bounding your way with Nobara at his side like the time before. Megumi pulls away from you, his face beet red with embarrassment.
“Hey, you two. How are you?”
“Good!” They cheerfully drawl out in unison.
Yuji takes Megumi by the hand, leading him back to the sofa where it appears they’re playing Mario Party together. The console’s new, so either someone else brought theirs, or Megumi got to open one of his presents early to play with his friends.
You’re taken aback by how well decorated Toji’s home is, with various ribbons and flags along the walls, on top of blue and green balloons floating along the ceiling. Everywhere you look, there’s something animal themed that’s perfect for Megumi’s big day.
“Thanks for comin’, doll.” Toji’s pulls your attention away from the room, back to him. “You’re making the kid’s day being here.”
“Of course, I’m happy to be here,” you tell him with another smile.
Toji returns your gleeful expression with his own, but it quickly vanishes at the sound of his door knocking, as though he already knows who awaits. He turns to answer it, and in the meantime, you’re approached by one of the other adults present.
“So you must be the girl next-door,” the man says, introducing themselves in a suave manner, “I’m Shiu Kong, a friend of Fushiguro’s.”
“O-oh yeah, it’s nice to meet you,” you reply, suddenly feeling nervous.
“You should know, he talks about you quite a bit–“
“Shiu,” Toji interrupts with a stern tone. He then sighs, “I see you’ve met Megs’ sitter.”
Your look at him with a shocked face. “You’re the babysitter?”
Shiu chuckles, “Wasn’t expecting some grown man, were ya?”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that,” you profusely apologize but his laughter continues, even knocking Toji on the shoulder with an open hand.
“Don’t be,” he reassures, “I’d expect some teenage girl too if I heard the word ‘babysitter’, but I’m not upset by it.”
It’s only now that you realize Toji is joined by two younger ─ and female ─ versions of him, save for their hair color bordering on a greenish hue.
Secret siblings of Megumi? No, you’d know that by now, but then again you know nothing about his mother.
You crouch down to greet the two apparent twins. “Hi there, what are your names?”
The one with straighter hair answers first, “Maki,” they answer without much of any emotion.
“I’m Mai,” the other girl says. Her hair is wavier than her sister’s, and slightly darker, making that the only noticeable difference between the two.
Toji puts one hand on the top of their heads, performing his signature ruffling technique honed from years of practice with Megumi. “Go on and play the others,” he says to them.
The two take their leave, heading towards where Megumi is, hand in hand. With the way their exchange is looking, it seems more likely that this is their first time meeting each other. Nobara looks especially thrilled at the sight of some other girls at the party, as she’s already pulling them away to chat amongst themselves.
“Are they Megumi’s cousins?” you ask, looking to Toji.
“Mine, actually.” He shrugs at the questionable look you give him in return. “Don’t ask, it ain’t worth the discussion.”
Well now he’s just purposely leaving you in suspense. Either way, you decide to change the topic to lighten the tense mood, “Did you do all these decorations yourself?”
He snorts, “You kidding? I had no clue they made stores just for parties until he showed me one.” Toji nudges his head at Shiu.
“You should’ve seen the look on this guy’s face when the employee had him trying on party hats to find the perfect one.” Shiu smirks, earning a glare from his friend.
“I’m gonna need a smoke break at this rate,” Toji grumbles.
“Thought you said you were going to quit that habit cause of–“
“I will turn you into a party favor if you continue that sentence,” he warns.
Shiu is unbothered by Toji’s feigned hostility, enjoying the subtle jabs they’re making at each other. “That wouldn’t be very nice on your own kids’ birthday, let alone in front of the pretty lady, now would it?” he teases.
“Shiu, don’t tempt me.”
The sound of your laughter brings both of their attentions to you, “You two are good friends, huh?”
“Do we look like friends?”
“Ouch, I’m hurt.” Shiu jokingly places his hand over his heart. “You’re lucky to have me around outside of business.”
“Yeah, yeah, save the sappy speech for the cake.” Toji waves him off, but you can see a smile pulling at his lips. He may act cold and distant with Shiu, but even you can tell it’s merely a façade. “If you’re hungry, there’s pizza in the kitchen and other snacks by the TV. Go make yourself comfy, doll.”
“Don’t mind if I do, thanks.” You leave the two to chat on your own while you make your way into the kitchen.
There are a few boxes of pizza, each with different toppings or regular old plain, so you grab a plate with whatever is your favorite and head off to join the kids.
Megumi and Yuji are side by side in the center of the sectional, and on the latter’s side is a young looking man who for whatever reason sparks a sense of familiarity in you. You’re not sure as to why because you think you would remember someone with tattoos across their face, but in this case, you don’t. He nods his head in a subtle greeting with you while you sit down on Megumi’s empty side.
No sooner after, a blonde woman who you saw seated here earlier appears, hugging the dark-haired man from over the back of the couch. “Choso!” she sings. Her eyes light up with curiosity like a candle when she sees you. “Who do we have here?” she asks, coming around to your end of the couch.
“Hi,” you tell her your name, “I’m one of Toji’s neighbors.” While you feel less nervous in meeting another woman, your nerves are still evident in your voice.
“Really?” She hums, rubbing her chin in thought. “So tell me… what’s your type of guy?”
“I’m sorry?” You blink.
“If you prefer women, that’s fine too,” she adds with narrowing eyes that scour your face for any reaction. “I ask this of everyone I meet for the first time.”
“Um…” You blink again, turning your head to look at Toji from afar. He catches your stare, glancing between you and the blonde before a knowing smirk crosses his face.
This shared look doesn’t go unnoticed by the woman, as she quickly places a hand down on your shoulder with a nod. “Yup, we’re gonna get along just fine,” she says with certainty. “By the way, I’m–“
“Auntie Yuki!” Yuji interrupts, throwing himself into her lap.
She helps him get situated, his back now flush against her chest. Yuki, as Yuji kindly introduced, wraps her hands around his stomach, erupting the boy with laughter as she tickles his sides. “What is it, Yujipie?”
She eventually relents, allowing him to speak. “Can you please play with us?” he asks, holding out a controller for her to take. “Pretty please…?” Yuji drawls out with puppy eyes.
“Of course I can! Let Auntie Yuki show you all her special moves.” She winks.
You feel your shirt being tugged, causing you to look down to where Megumi keeps looking between you and Yuji with a silent plea.
Is he feeling a bit jealous?
“Would you like to sit up here with me, ‘Gumi?” He nods, crawling up onto your lap to mimic his friend. Once he’s settled, he offers you his controller as well, which you take.
“Ooh, is it time for the adults to face off?” Yuki muses, feeling a competitive spark growing. “You’re up, Choso.”
“Hey!” Nobara raises her voice with a pouting face. “You can’t all gang up on me, that’s not fair!”
“You haven’t looked at the TV since Maki and Mai came over!” Yuji retorts.
Her scowl turns into a blush. “Nuh-uh!” She argues, feeling bashful.
“What’s all the commotion?” Toji catches you off guard with his sudden appearance over the couch from behind you.
“Toji Toji!” Yuji exclaims, “Come play with us!”
“Yeah, come on, old man!” Everyone’s jaw drops at Nobara’s comment. She then runs up to Toji. “Here, you can use mine!”
“’m not that old…” he grumbles, taking the controller from her before moving to the now free spot between you and Choso. “Kids these days,” he scoffs, sitting down.
You try to stifle your laugh, hiding your smile behind your hand.
“Not you too,” he sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose while attempting to hide his own grin. “I’ll just have to prove myself then by getting all the coins and winning.”
“I think you mean stars,” Choso counters with innocent intent, unknowingly making Toji’s case worse as the kids bust out laughing.
Nobara, alongside Maki and Mai, shuffle over to the open area between the couch and the coffee table. The three lean their backs against the couch, happily partaking in the spread of junk food in front of them.
Toji’s suffering doesn’t end, with each turn landing him on the accursed red tiles ─ or worse, Bowser tiles after the lowest of low rolls from the dice. Choso on the other hand keeps striking it big with 10s each time, making it a struggle for Yuji on who to cheer for. Yuki’s doing fairly well herself, making it a point to utilize every item she can get her hands on.
Over the course of the game, you come to find out that Choso is one of Toji’s coworkers, answering your earlier question. Not only that, but he’s also Yuji’s older brother, with Yuki being his girlfriend. He’s around your age, so to have a sibling as young as Yuji is an anomaly in itself, but not one completely unheard of it.
If anything, you’re more curious about Toji’s family tree with him being cousins to a pair of six-year-olds, all while his own son is turning that very age today.
The minigames are as intense as you would’ve expected. Yuki is thrilled whenever she has you on her team, challenging the men to keep up with you girls. If Toji ends up on your team, you can be sure you’re winning that minigame no matter what.
As for Shiu, he’s enjoying all the chances to poke fun at Toji from afar, especially over his competitive nature that butts heads with Yuki. Meanwhile, both Choso and you are simply happy to be there, as are the kids all intensely watching.
By the end of the game, you’re all a bunch of a sweaty messes, even the casual players of the game. It’s hard not to get on the edge of your seat at times to keep up with the two bloodthirsty gamers. Despite the luck or skill of the rest, you end up being the surprised winner of the game in the name of Team Megumi.
“Booo, I was rooting for you, old man,” Nobara quips, huffing her cheeks at him.
“Yeah, sure you were,” Toji replies with a sarcastic tone, ruffling her perfectly shaped bob.
“You might’ve had a chance if you weren’t blowing all the coins you got on useless items,” Shiu remarks, letting out an amused puff of air.
Toji shoots him a glare on his way from the couch into the kitchen. “Who’s ready for presents and cake?”
“Me me me!” Yuji and Nobara cheer, equal in excitement. They take off as fast as their tiny feet will allow to get there first, not that it makes any difference, but they are kids.
Megumi slides off your lap, pulling on your hand to lead you. As for the twins, they’re the last to arrive at the table with Yuki at their side. The two share an expression you know all too well ─ that out of place feeling as though you don’t belong here, and it makes you wonder more.
As far as things are going for you, today’s been fun, but a lot socially. With the holidays near, it’s made an excellent distraction from the typical pattern of loneliness you’ve had for some years now. This time of year used to bring you so much joy and happiness, but now your decorations sit in boxes buried in the closet.
Yuki’s charisma reminds you of Satoru, both with a unique and unmatched sense of humor that is pleasantly inviting. Choso appeared more serious at first, but once you got to know him better, you found him to be quite down to earth and more relatable than you could’ve ever imagined. The two of them hold a lot of love for Yuji; he’s lucky to have such good figures in his life watching over him.
Megumi takes up his designated seat at the head of the table, glaring at Toji while he does his best to make the party hat fit properly over all his son’s spiked hair. Megumi now looks more like a unicorn than a kid celebrating his birthday. Everyone else at the table puts on their own hats to match, cheering for the boy as he starts to unwrap his gifts.
“Wait, wait ─ fuck,” Toji groans, fiddling with a phone in his hands. You realize upon closer inspection that it’s not his usual phone, but rather a brand-new one.
“You okay?” you ask, delicate with your tone to not offend. A habit you learned early on in your youth.
“What the hell is a panorama?” Toji clicks his tongue. “Why isn’t this shit working?” He further complains.
“I’m starting to think we should start checking your hair for grays, Fushiguro.”
“Shiu, I am never inviting you to these again.”
“Play nice, boys,” Yuki teases, joining the banter.
“Here, let me…” You lean into his space, swiping your finger across the screen to the appropriate setting. “…there. Did you just get this recently?”
“Gotta keep up with your online posts somehow.” He grins with impish delight, savoring in the flustered expression that blooms. “Go on then, Megs. You’re up.”
With that, Megumi begins tearing into his presents ─ albeit in a calm manner. Most kids leave nothing but shreds behind, but Megumi is the type to unwrap his presents wherever there’s tape, keeping it clean and intact. Through it all, he’s smiling away with childlike wonder.
The gifts he receives vary from person to person, with a few being games for his new console, animal themed legos, and some other toys. From you, he gets some National Geographic books on zoology paired with a large, black and white wolf plush with the name “Totality” written on the tag.
Books, especially nonfiction ones at that, are a gamble for this budding six-year-old. You figure it acts like a picture book paired with factual knowledge here and there, and if he already likes documentaries, then he might enjoy some books on it too. With the way his eyes light up, it’s safe to say he’s more than happy about it. So much so, that he hops off his chair, running to embrace you in full.
“Thank you, Mama,” he murmurs just loud enough that between the awing of everyone in the room, it’s still clearly audible.
It’s the pink elephant in the room you’ve tried not to think about so far ─ that is, the absence of his mother from the celebration of his birth. Whether intentional or not, Megumi’s continuous hold on you seals the deal of the only possible reasoning for his words.
There is no mother in his life.
You’re not quite sure what to even say, merely letting your hand do the talking by gently soothing with back-and-forth motions over his head. What’s worrying to you isn’t so much his sudden declaration, but rather how his true father who’s recording all of this will react. You can only imagine the look on his face, hopeful that he isn’t mad or upset with you.
“Cake time!” Yuji cheers, cutting through the palpable tension in the room.
Toji and Shiu shuffle off together to the kitchen first, while the rest of you stay behind at the table. Megumi returns to his chair, babbling with Yuji and Nobara who have their forks in hand, ready as could be. Yuki and Choso start to clear the table off to make room, so you opt to help them to clear your mind.
“Hey, are you alright?” Yuki whispers to you when you’re away from everyone else.
You give her a weak smile in response, making it appear like everything’s fine, even if your voice betrays you. “Y-yeah, wasn’t expecting that is all.”
“It’s a good thing, no?” she questions, and by all means, she’s right but…
“It is! I’m happy, but…should I be?” you sigh.
“Of course you should, this is a huge step!” she argues, silently shouting triumphantly for you. “I remember when Yuji started calling me his mom,” she chuckles fondly, “It took a while to explain what aunts are since he only has an uncle, but Cho and I were so happy about it.”
You wonder for a moment about Yuji’s own home situation in comparison to Megumi. It’s likely given her words that Choso is as much of a guardian as he is a brother to him.
“I can’t help but worry whether Toji’s as happy about it as I am,” you admit, feeling pained by the thought of this changing everything for the two of you.
“I wouldn’t worry,” Choso suddenly whispers from behind you. “You’d be surprised what he’s thinking.”
Before you can even ask him what he means, Shiu calls out for everyone to gather back at the table. Upon your return, you spare a glance at Toji, sharing an awkward few seconds of eye contact that don’t tell you much of how he’s feeling.
He turns his attention back to the cake, placing it down in front of Megumi. Shiu takes over with recording, as you all begin to sing happy birthday while Toji lights the six candles.
It’s an adorable sheet cake, perfect for Megumi’s whole animal themed party with tigers, snakes, owls, and so much more made up of a rainbow of icing colors.
“Make a wish, Megs,” Toji encourages his son who thinks long and hard before puffing out his cheeks and blowing all the candles out. The clapping and cheering intensifies the redness of his cheeks as the star of the show.
“Picture time.” Shiu grins, using Toji’s phone to capture everyone’s smiling faces around the birthday boy. There are shots with everyone, just the adults, the kids, and then right when it’s about to be father and son, he stops you, “Hold on, let me get one of you three now.”
You stand nervously off to the side until Toji’s hand comes around to your shoulder, tucking you closer to him. “Is this okay?” you mumble to him.
“’Course it is, sweetheart.”
Okay well he’s not mad given the use of that nickname, but it doesn’t tell you he’s happy either.
“Alright, now smile this time, Dad.” Shiu puts on a teasing tone, snapping a dozen photos before giving a thumbs up of approval.
It’s proving difficult for Megumi not to cry at his cake being cut. The usually calm demeanor of his threatening to fall apart at the sight of the iced animals being cleaved by the knife and served to everyone to eat. Whether that’s the reason he avoids eating the icing around the fluffy interior, or if he’s simply just not a big sweets fan, it’s hard to say.
The festivities continue for a while after, with all the kids enjoying some of the new toys together. When it comes time for everyone to head out, it’s easy to see their hearts break.
Yuji does his best to keep himself composed, but he wants nothing more than to stay and have a sleepover so that the fun can’t end. Nobara, while she doesn’t let her dismay show, you can see it in her eyes when her parents, Saori and Hiromi Higuruma, arrive to pick her up. Shiu’s the next to leave, but as of right now, he’s busy chatting with Toji by the door, leaving you with the remaining children.
Mai comes up to you, taking a seat beside you on the couch. “Is it true you’re a model?”
“It is,” you reply, clicking together a few pieces of the legos Megumi has you building with him.
“Does that mean you’re on TV?” she asks, and you can see the stars forming in the pools of her eyes.
You let out an amused breath. “It can, but I’m not. I am in magazines though,” you tell her.
“I wanna be on TV someday,” she reveals with hopeful confidence. “An actress!”
“You do, huh? That’s an exciting dream.” You look over to her twin who’s sitting on the other side of you, munching away on a bowl of chips. “How about you, Maki? What’s your dream?”
She shrugs, seemingly uncaring to the idea. “Don’t have one.”
That’s odd, you think to yourself. What kid doesn’t have a lofty goal in mind for the future? From the start you’ve had your worries, not because of their behavior ─ which has been good to say the least ─ but why they act more distant than a normal six-year-old would.
What is their life at home like?
The front door opens and closes, signaling Shiu’s departure. Toji strides back into the room, yawning while scratching the back of his head. He falls into the corner of the couch on Maki’s end, reclining into the cushions with a tired exhale.
“You have a good day, kid?” He nudges Megumi with his foot while he speaks.
Megumi brushes off the action with his hand, shooting him a sharp look that no sooner turns to a blush. “…The best.”
“That’s good.” Toji returns Megumi’s look with one of endearment. You yourself feel happy as well knowing you contributed to Megumi’s special day. “Why don’t you and the girls go get ready for bed and then we can watch a movie, or whatever you’d like?” he muses.
“’Kay,” Megumi drawls. If it weren’t for the movie suggestion, he would’ve had some complaints about being told his birthday is essentially over. Nevertheless, he and the twins disappear down the hall.
The tenseness from earlier returns, heightened by the fact you’re now alone together. For the first time in a few weeks, you feel your old self crawling back up. The longer silences envelopes you both, the more you desire to act on your flight response in order to protect yourself from any hurt feelings.
“Hey–“
“So–“
You both speak in unison, interrupting each other. Seems you aren’t the only one feeling weird after all.
“Sorry,” you nervously laugh.
“Don’t be, you go first,” he insists, waiting patiently for you to talk once you muster up the courage to do so again. Trying to leave now just became a whole lot more difficult.
“Uh…so the twins are sleeping over, I assume?” you instead opt to say.
“Yeah, I have them for holidays,” he tells you with a hint of vexation.
You make a confused face in response. He seemed to like the twins earlier, why else would he have them here? “You’re not happy about it?” you inquire.
“The girls are fine; they aren’t the issue.” He waves his hand dismissively, throwing his head back to stare at the ceiling. “It’s my piece of shit family that is. All of them ─ rotten to the core.”
“You don’t seem so bad to me,” you reassure, evidently making him feel the slightest bit better when you notice the corner of his lip moving upwards.
Toji admits, much to his chagrin, “You don’t know the half of it, sweetheart. The only things we have in common are blood, bad habits, and wishing the other didn’t exist.”
“Well, I’m no stranger to that either…” He snaps his head in your direction with a stern face, nothing negative directed at you. As much as you could go on and trauma bond with him, you refrain from doing so. “But I can say for sure that you’re nothing close to rotten, Toji.”
There’s a beat of silence before he speaks again, “You have my late wife to thank for that,” he finally reveals, answering the question you’ve been dying to know.
Late wife.
“…Megumi’s mother?”
He nods slowly.
“Meeting her was the turning point in my life.” His eyes then shut, as if embracing a distant, yet fond memory. “I’ve done a lot of dumb things in life I regret, but the day I ran away to be with her was never one of them.”
He pauses briefly, his eyes fluttering open, back to the present. There’s an unmistakable glint of sadness now visible to you. Whatever loss had occurred took a large piece of him with it.
“She changed me, made me a better person ─ made me want to be a better person.” His voice now carries a somber tone to it, grieving alongside a hollowed expression. Only now do you realize that in the time you’ve known Toji, this is the first time he’s ever been so vulnerable around you.
A few minutes ago, your mind was urging you to run, already assuming you would meet the worst outcome if you didn’t ─ a bad end.
It pains you, especially now that you’re seeing a glimpse into his own world of hurt. Issues you knew nothing about, feelings he’s locked away. It’s easy to get caught up in all your own emotions until you’re shutting everyone else out to protect yourself, but you’re also not the only one.
How cruel you feel for things out of your control and how you react.
“Once I knew what I felt was love, I married her right away.” He holds his left hand up, looking to the empty spot around his ring finger. “She was already pregnant at the time, but even if she wasn’t, it wouldn’t have changed a damn thing.”
“You don’t have to keep going if it’s hard, Toji, I don’t mind,” you say to bring him some comfort. You reach for his slight trembling hand as well, grounding him with your touch.
You debate whether that’s the right move or not in this situation, but when he held yours as you felt everything come crashing down, it made you feel better. So why not return the kindness this time?
He doesn’t seem to mind the action, and in fact, works it so his hand is holding yours. His thumb moves absentmindedly across your palm, the rough pad smoothing out as he calms down.
“I was terrified of becoming a father. I never thought I should be one after the life I’ve lived, but she kept trying to convince me otherwise,” he admits. “Never could’ve predicted that I’d be the one raising him all alone. Ironic, isn’t it?” he chuckles mirthlessly.
“Take care of Megumi, okay?” the promise echoes in his mind.
“She passed away right after giving birth with our blessing still in her arms.”
Your vision glosses over with fresh tears that are pooling. “Toji, I am so sorry.”
Logically, he should be the one crying his eyes out over this grief, but instead, it’s you. Despite your best efforts to contain your emotions, how can you not feel for him and all the pain he’s gone through?
But there’s one crucial detail he’s forgetting.
You trade places once more with his hand, squeezing tight like he’s your lifeline ─ and in a way, he is.
“Don’t forget what you told me.” He raises a brow at this. “Just like how I’m not alone with you around in my life, neither are you,” you counter, trying to maintain as stern a voice as you can through tears that shatter it.
Toji smiles at the gesture, and it’s like watching the life return to his eyes in real-time.
“You should know, I’m not upset about the kid calling you ‘mom’. He needs a mother figure in his life, and I couldn’t ask for anyone better than you.”
With that, you feel the light shining your way this time, pushing the darkness away with words of affirmation. Even if it inevitably draws out the final burst of tears from within you, you’re happy.
As you part your lips to speak, the boy in question comes bounding back into the room, right onto his father’s lap. You’re quick to wipe off your face, making it appear as though nothing had happened in his absence.
“Hey Megs.” Toji flips him around, pulling Megumi’s back flush to his body.
Maki and Mai follow after, reclaiming their original spots on either side of you. You help them get comfy with some throw pillows and a blanket overtop your legs.
“What movie do you wanna watch? Your choice,” Toji asks, grabbing the remote for the TV.
“Ice Age!” Megumi replies, raising his hands in the air to showcase his eagerness. “With the dinosaurs!”
“You got it, birthday boy.”
“Hey, speaking of birthdays…” You glance over at Toji who’s already making a face. He knows exactly what you’re about to ask, and he can’t say he’s a fan of it. “…when’s yours?”
“I’m an ‘old man’,” he drawls mockingly, rolling his eyes for the added effect. “Mine doesn’t mean anything.”
“Don’t say that, either of those things,”you scold, giving him your best pouting expression. “You’re not old, and it’s another year you’ve gotten to live and enjoy life.”
Ironic coming from someone with intrusive thoughts and ideations.
He sighs, still refusing to answer as you begin a silent stare down with each other. After some thought, he finally tells you, “…the 31st.”
You blink, lips stretching into a fine line.
“Toji.”
“Yeah?”
A pause.
“That’s in nine days.”
“Sure is.”
Another pause, and then the two of you bust out laughing amongst yourselves. All three of the kids look at you both like you’re crazy before returning their gaze to the movie now playing.
“Looks like I have some last-minute shopping to do then,” you muse over the possible ideas.
“Oh please, don’t start,” he groans. “I don’t need anything.”
“Well, too bad. I’m getting you something whether you like it or not.” You place your hands overtop the twins’ hair, a habit you’ve come to pick up the longer you’re around Toji. “Besides, these girls are going to be here for Christmas, so I want to do something for them.”
The two look shocked upon hearing your words, but a subtle redness settles over their features when they realize you’re being genuine with them.
You all enjoy the duration of the movie together, like one big hapy family, without a care in the world. It’s been a rollercoaster of a day with a whole new insight on Toji’s life. As satisfied as you are to finally have an answer to the big question, it’s left you with several more, courtesy of your doomsday mindset.
Does he still harbor feelings for her, long after her demise?
Are you even worthy enough to fill that empty space in their hearts meant for a mother or a lover?
Then comes the question you often ask yourself in your darkest moments ─ do you even deserve this?
Do you yourself deserve to be loved by another?

☆ Notes: the real slow burn is mamaguro’s status and my update schedule…
This chapter was one of my toughest ever to write with how many characters I had to keep track of - balancing conversations/emotions between actions and descriptive text. It was a good but tough learning process, and I really hope you guys enjoyed it!!!
I doubt I’ll ever touch up on it in the future, but yes, our favorite lawyer is Nobara’s stepdad :) her mom (dubbed saori kugisaki for last name purposes) is her bio mom, and is the same saori she meets as a kid in the canon. I thought it’d be fitting for the two, and I’ve seen other fics make Hiromi her father, so I figured why not! Nobara deserves a happy family too <3
Lastly, for some fun author lore, I had a green 3d dragon cake for my 8th birthday party and I SOBBED my eyes out in front of both my family and my four guests because I thought the dragon would be upset and hate me for eating it… as for my birthday today, I’m doing a spongebob themed cookie cake in honor of turning 25 as per the boating school episode :3

More jjk airhead reader !!! But more on Megumi and reader's relationship :))))
paired this with another request! also :) big happy birthday to my guy 'gumi <3 love that squid kid
anon: "I WANT ROMANCE BETWEEN JJK AIRHEAD READER AND MEGUMII !!!!!!"
Dynamic: Megumi Fushiguro/Reader (Platonic → potential romantic) Warnings: emotionally ambiguous relationships ftw, fem reader Word Count: 920 ~~~
“Do you have a grinder?” the man behind the counter asks, taking the cash Megumi holds out for him.
Your eyes widen and Megumi’s brows furrow, “What?”
“Do you have a Grindr and didn’t tell me?” you shake your head, “I mean, yeah that’s all completely your business, it’s just - you know, you’re not even eighteen yet and I’m your best friend, so I thought maybe you’d tell me- “
“For the beans,” the man cuts in, handing over the coffee beans Megumi just bought, “Grinder with an ‘e’. For beans.”
“Oh! Yeah, we got that!” you giggle and take the bag before hopping out of the store with Megumi on your trail.
He can’t bring himself to scold you, not when you slow down for him to catch up with that sweet smile on your lips. Then, suddenly, you pout and lean your head on his shoulder, looping an arm through his, “If you had a- "
“Don’t finish that,” Megumi sighs.
“But?”
“But yes. I would tell you.”
“Yay!”
Looking at you, Megumi can still see the way you’re grinning. The true definition of ignorance is bliss lies in that grin, and he isn’t willing to let anyone break it. So he lets you hang off his side as you two go through Tokyo.
“Oh, oh! We should get candles!” you pat Megumi’s arm, already beginning to drag him towards the store.
His eyes narrow at the sign on the door, “It doesn’t open for another half hour.”
“But I wanna be the first ones in there so none of the good ones are taken!”
“Alright,” he concedes with no struggle.
“Yes! You hear that, bean bag?” you lift up the bag of coffee beans as if it’s a small child, “He’ll wait with us!”
Megumi knows that nobody else could make him stand outside a candle shop for thirty minutes, but to him it’s all worth it. He hates and loves the power you have over him.
The little old man running the shop arrives ten minutes early with the promise to let you two in as soon as he sets up.
“Take your time,” you cheer after the elderly man.
Once you two are inside, it remains empty for the duration of your stay. But Megumi won’t tease you over the pointlessness of waiting, not when you’re already sighing and upset.
“What?” he turns to you as you put a candle down.
“I totally didn’t bring enough to buy this and cover train costs,” you stick your tongue out, “Whatever. I’ll go look around more, let me know when you wanna go.”
Megumi watches you walk away, dejected, before grabbing the candle for himself. It’s a scent you’ve been hunting for in candle shops for months, but he doesn’t have the money to buy it and the ride back, not on him currently anyway. So he takes a picture of the candle and tells you he’s ready to go - he can always come back tomorrow while you’re busy training.
On the train back, you lean over and rest your head on his shoulder once again, “I hope you’re having a good birthday, ‘gumi.”
He nods slowly, “I am.”
“Sorry I couldn’t get you more.”
“Don’t worry about that,” he takes the bag of coffee beans and places it in his lap, patting it, “This is fine.”
“Well, there is another thing back at the dorms,” you take one of his hands and squeeze, “I hope you like it.”
By the time you two get back to the dorms, everyone has gathered into the kitchen with a spot in the middle of the group left open. You gently nudge Megumi into the open space, set down the bag of beans, and rush out before coming back in with a cake in your arms. Candles in the shape of numbers reading out ‘16’ are lit, and upon closer inspection, he can see that all the rounded letters, and dot of the ‘i’, in his icing message of “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” have been made into smiley faces. It’s very you.
You hand him a card, urging him to read it.
Megumi opens your card while you hug him from the side, “‘Wish you an emotionally ambivalent birthday’?”
“Yeah,” you nod, “I didn’t know whether to put happy or angry, ‘cuz you don’t smile a lot,” you point at Maki from across the room, “Maki helped with spelling.”
Pocketing the card, Megumi blows out the candles on his cake, “Thanks.”
“Aw, you didn’t make a wish,” you tilt your head and pout as Maki cuts the cake.
“I got everything,” he murmurs, patting your shoulder, “Thanks.”
“You said that already, silly.”
“No, really,” he looks at the others - laughing, smiling, having fun, “thank you. For everything.”
“You’re my best friend,” you take his hands, “I’d do anything for you, ‘gumi.”
He squeezes your hands in his and lowers his head so nobody sees the smile at his lips. Nobody except for you.
You’re an airhead, yeah, but you’re so kind. And gentle. And he thinks that there should be more people like you, but it’s so unfair to others - because you’ve set the bar so high, just by being yourself.
“I love you,” his voice is hoarse, like he’s trying to smother down a cry.
“I love you, too,” you bump your forehead with his, “Now, let’s go eat cake, okay?”
“Yeah,” he reaches up and wipes at his eyes while nobody else is looking, “Okay. Cake time.”
“Yeah,” you giggle, “Cake time!”

“Megumi… hey, wakey wakey, it’s your birthday”
The light shaking at his shoulder, which then turned into the patting of his cheeks, stirred Megumi. He could feel the late December chill that dwelled on the border of the blanket waiting to grab him as soon as he left the comfort of his bed, and he elected to ignore every notion of leaving his bed because of it.  He knew you’d be relentless in your urges to wake him up, and if you of all people were up this early in this weather, it had to mean you had something planned. He could faintly hear you shush something behind you but in his current state, he didn’t have the energy to strain his ears for whatever was making noise.
He tossed and turned a few more times after your prodding just to see if you would maybe cave in and cuddle him in bed for the rest of the morning, but to no avail, you kept insisting he move. Maybe he could just pull the birthday card and pull you into a hug to cuddle? No, you’d probably just roll him out of the bed from there.
His thoughts on getting your affection were interrupted by a quiet panting and licking sensation by his cheek, he blinked away some of his drowsiness to make eye contact with a small puppy that you had held up to his eye level and was currently making itself known.
“Well that’s one way to wake me up”  He slowly moved a hand up to the puppies face where it gave a happy lick and allowed him to scratch by its ear.
“It’s good that you’re getting along, he’s all yours” as a smile danced across your face you noticed the way his eyes widened as you handed him the Belgian shepherd puppy. The puppy was all black and had reminded you of one of his divine dogs, and it looked very happy in his arms as he sat up slightly stunned.
“He’s… what?”
“He’s yours. To look after, I see how you much adore seeing the dogs around town and you can’t really keep the divine dogs out all the time”
You had seated yourself next to him as he was now sitting upright playing with the puppy. It adored him already and it was sweet to see Fushiguro so relaxed and happy in that moment. He deserved more moments like this, all of you did, where none of you had to worry about saving people, and you were happy to help provide that for him.
“Are we even allowed to keep pets here?” he questioned, turning his body to face you as the puppy began climbing up his arms. His support on the dog never wavered as it wiggled up to rest its head on his shoulder.
“I spoke to Gojo, if anything happens he can take the blame.”
“Sounds like a fair plan. Now… what should I name this little guy?” The soft smile on Megumi’s face showed his gratitude towards you and all the care he held for the little creature already. He whispered a “thank you” as he left a light kiss on your forehead and stared into your eyes before your loving moment was promptly interrupted by the cutest bark from your new little friend.

White Day is only a few days away when you begin to notice Rika’s form is absent from your training sessions lately. There shouldn’t be any reason for this, at least not one you’re aware of. Your class celebrated Yuta’s birthday just two days ago, and both the curse and cursed seemed fine, great even. You decide it’s best to bring this up casually - Yuta was still so skittish and Rika would be able to hear whatever you said anyways. So while you lead Yuta through a yoga session, you ask, “How’s Rika?”
He flusters and falls from his side-plank variation pose. The band he was using as an aid tangles around his calf. You debate and decide to leave him. If you touched him now, he might spontaneously combust. That thought makes you giggle a little. You move to change to a position that meant you weren’t looking at him. Hopefully, that’s less pressure.
Yuta speaks up when you’re fully downward dog, leading you to believe your plan worked. “She’s fine, yeah, fine. Just uh - tired?” You nod but inwardly roll your eyes. You shift your hips in to move to upward facing dog and make eye contact again.
“Just checking. I miss her hanging out, you know?” It’s obvious Yuta just lied, curses don’t get tired, but it’s better to not call him out this time. You just have to hope it wasn’t anything you did. “I know you fell but at this point you’re just slacking. Get back on your mat,” you say, changing the topic to something safe.
You’re back in downward facing dog when the door slides open. A familiar voice drawls, “Why are you still working out, dummy? Forgot our plans?” You scramble to your feet.
“Gumi!” You rush to hug him despite his obvious distaste. “What time is it? Do I still have time to shower or will we be late?”
Your little brother snorts and pushes you away, “Please do, you smell. You have,” he checks his watch, “fifteen minutes.”
“Gumi! That’s not enough time!” You yell, already sprinting towards the showers at the back of the gym. Yuta pouts at how quickly you seemed to forget his presence. That face doesn’t escape Megumi.
“So, you like my idiot sister?”
“W-what! No, no no no, it’s not like that! She just helps t-train me and -!” Yuta knows he’s rambling but he can’t seem to stop talking.
“Whatever,” Megumi has better things to worry about than repressed hormones. He's known that Yuta had a crush on you since the first time he came to campus to train with you after Yuta arrived. Your classmate couldn’t stop staring and seemed disheartened by the fact that you called Megumi by a shortened version of his given name. He had pouted until Satoru showed up and made a spectacle of ‘Team Gojo’ being all together again. Like you three didn’t, at minimum, have a weekly dinner together.
“If you ever want to acknowledge them, you’ll have to get approved by Satoru.” Yuta feels like he also needs the approval of this boy, but he leaves that unsaid. Just nods dumbly. Probably a good thing he didn’t respond, because you barrel through the doors you disappeared from.
When you rush past him, Yuta gets a strong whiff of the floral scent he’s come to associate with you. Megumi laughs under his breath at the blissed out look. Your hair drips water onto your tee shirt and it’s clear you rushed. “Really, really sorry to dip, Yuta. Run through those stretches we did last week to cool down!” Your fingers distractedly pull your wet hair into a braid as you instruct him. “Oh! Tell Maki I won’t be at afternoon training, Satoru already knows and gave permission. Megumi, grab my duffel?” Already carrying it, he rolls his eyes. “I should be back tomorrow morning, but don’t count on it.”
“Wait, but why -?”
“Gotta dash. Bye, Yuta!” You run ahead of your brother, headed to your room to grab Tsumiki’s gifts. Megumi gives a nod and follows after you. Alone and without anyone around to judge, Yuta groans and buries his face into his yoga mat. God, why can’t he just be normal.
When he looks back up, Rika has taken your spot on your mat. You left in such a hurry, you didn’t even clean up. He’ll have to drop it off in your room. “Ya’ know, it’s not that I’m mad about you liking her,” she begins. “It’s just…. I know we can’t be together so I do want you to be happy. I just feel jealous. Especially since you got her that super fancy chocolate for White Day,” Rika finishes with a pout.
Yuta doesn’t really know how to reassure her. So he does what he promised when he was ten, and is just honest. “I’m here to learn how to let you go, Rika. Neither of us know how to do that yet. I can’t be in any kind of relationship until I learn. It wouldn’t be fair to either of you.”
Rika hums and picks at the corner of your mat. “Well. I think it’s more than just us two you’re worried about.”
“What?”
“Inumaki seems pretty interested in the both of you too. You may not see it, but all three of you are pretty smitten. It’s actually kind of gross.”
“That’s - he - no!” Rika just laughs and dissolves her form. Yuta, still flustered, continues to mutter as he collects the things you left and wipes down any used equipment. When he finally leaves, it’s just his luck he runs (literally) into Inumaki who looks unfairly handsome in a fitted tee and sweatpants. Even his markings are uncovered, which makes Yuta groan, tuck tail, and run away. Yuta can hear Rika laughing in his mind.
“Tuna mayo?” Inumaki tilts his head to the side but shrugs off the odd behavior.

July 2017
JJH Thots the good gojo: guysss help which tie do i get :( fushiguro: isn’t satoru with you the good gojo: yea but u know he’s shit at gifts maki: Both of those are ugly, (y/n). Do you hate the man? osamu: the cheetah print trophy husband: I like that one too! the good gojo: this is why you two are my favorites
From a few cities over, Yuta flushes at your words. Inumaki notices and kicks his foot. He’s laughing when he says, “Nori,” but Yuta can spot a faint pink over the hem of his collar too.
You turn around in the middle of the street when you hear a loud, “(y/n)-chan!” Satoru is speed-walking towards you, waving an arm that is covered in different shopping bags. His long legs have him beside you in a split second, even without the use of cursed energy. “Are you done yet? Nanami won’t even thank you properly you know. Why don’t you just get gifts for your precious Nii-chan?” He pouts and takes the two bags you’re carrying.
“One, it’s not your birthday. Two, you could buy anything you want already. Three, who's to say I didn’t already get you one?” You pull a box of macaroons out from one of the bags he took. Satoru moves to snatch it immediately but you put it behind your back. Of course, if he wanted, he’d just grab it, but your Nii-chan would never deny playing a game with you. “You can’t get it until we’re back on campus! I’m already tired and this is my bribe to go home early.”
“But (y/n)-chan,” he whines.
“Nu-uh. I promised a movie night with Toge and Yuta and I don’t wanna be late.” You realize too late you revealed too much, because your brother suddenly looks like a very successful cat.
“Why didn’t you just say so? I would never make my little sister late for her first date.”
You blush furiously, “Who says it’s my first?”
“It better be your first.”
“It’s not even a date,” you roll your eyes. “Neither like me like that, and if it was a date, wouldn’t one be a third-wheel?”
“Tricycles are pretty fun.” Your brother says casually. You roll your eyes again and add a gag for good measure. “Seriously, (y/n). You should know you have my full support to love anyone and everyone you want. Not that you need it, though. You’re a Gojo. We do as we please anyways.”
You tear up at his sincerity and throw your arms around your brother, or at least the best you can with his bags in the way. The two of you are frequently physically and verbally affectionate but not often in such a serious manner. You know there’s a deep love between you; for a long time, the two of you only had each other. Eventually, your family expanded to include Megumi and Tsumiki, but neither ever took the Gojo name. You and Satoru had a special bond. “Thank you,” you stutter around tears. You hope he understands it’s not just a thank you for the reassurance but a thank you for giving you such a life.
“Come on, no crying. You can’t go on your date with puffy eyes, you’ll scare both of them away.” He pats your head softly and just laughs when you punch him in the gut.

Just want to write about Jonghyun & SHINee for a bit.
Yesterday I was watching Lee Hi’s performance of Breathe and started crying. And I watched it again today several times and cried. Then I watched SHINee win artist of the year and cried again. This whole thing is going to be a mess of memories, typos, and such, but I just want to write this out for myself.
I became a SHINee fan back in 2009. I found them on accident on Youtube and it started with “Juliette.” At first, I wasn’t a fan of the song, but everyday on my way to classes in college, it would just keep replaying over and over in my head. I used to get so frustrated and ask myself “why is this song stuck in my head if I don’t like it?!” So finally, I decided to give it one more shot, because if a song gets stuck in your head, there has to be a reason. So I watched it again, actually.. several times because they were so cute. Then I finally decided, “Okay... let me give them a chance.” From there I found “Replay”, which I fell in love with upon first listen. I basically went through all the music videos they had that were accessible through Youtube (Love Like Oxygen and Amigo). Soon after, I had their album downloaded and was playing the whole thing on repeat.
Not too long after, they started dropping teasers of each member everyday for “Ring Ding Dong” and I was so hyped. It was the first time I ever experienced the infamous ‘K-pop Comeback.’ I instantly fell in love with the song and that’s when I decided that these guys were just too good to be true and I dubbed them as my favorite group.
I’ll never forget when I went home for Thanksgiving break and all I was doing was playing “Ring Dong Dong” throughout the house on full blast. I made everyone listen to the song and eventually, this became the song that also got my cousin and mom into K-pop. I remember sitting my cousin down and just forcing her to watch SHINee videos. It was my first time ever converting someone to a Shawol.
I used to have this internal struggle back then that was ‘who is my bias?’ At the start, it was Taemin. Then when Ring Ding Dong came out, Key stole my heart. My mom used to buy anything and everything that was Key shaped (actually she still does). But then, Hello Baby happened, and everything about Jonghyun caught my attention. My cousin used to be so mean and would ask me “Key or Jonghyun?” And I could never give her a answer. I felt bad betraying Key by choosing Jonghyun and vice versa. Eventually, I accepted it and decided Jonghyun was the one.
Anyways, I basically fell in love with SHINee ever since then and everyone around me thought it was just a ‘phase.’ I’ve had phases in the past that have lasted a week to a couple years, but they always seemed to have left me eventually, but I was convinced SHINee wasn’t just a ‘phase,’ and I was right. It’s now 2018 and I’m still going strong.
Without SHINee, I wouldn’t be who I am today. I’ve met so many friends and have had so many experiences because of SHINee. My first time ever in Japan back in 2010, I bought a Jonghyun pen they were selling in Yokohama in China Town. My first day of school in Osaka that I was studying abroad at, a girl in my class pointed to it and asked ‘Is that Jonghyun?’ We’ve been friends ever since. We even went to their first ever concert together back in December 2010. I mean, we spent a ton of money on those tickets, but it was totally worth it. I even cried from happiness and ran into a pole afterwards.
Because of SHINee, I started learning Korean and eventually I went to live and work in Korea for 3 years. I met another friend in line at a SHINee concert who was also living in Korea and we ended up going to all their events, pre-recordings, and concerts together. The best times there were SW2,3,4, 7th anniversary, SMTOWN Week, Taemin’s solo fanmeet, Gumi concert, and Sokcho concert.
Another funny thing that is actually true is that I started wearing contacts because of Jonghyun. I’m actually terrified of eyes and hate watching people put on eye make-up, putting it on myself (I can but it takes a while), contacts, and just touching eyes in general, but I told myself one day “If Jonghyun can wear contacts, so can I. I’m going to do this for Jonghyun.” Why? I don’t know. But I was so sick of glasses so I needed motivation. I finally did suck it up and learn to wear contacts, and eventually I got LASIK. All thanks to Jonghyun hahahaha.
I went to Jonghyun’s concert back in 2015 and each concert he would change up the setlist a bit. So a song he sang the day before, he might not have sang the next day. My top two favorite songs by/written by Jonghyun are “Love Belt” and “Gloomy Clock.” At the time, I think he had sung Gloomy Clock, but he never sang Love Belt yet at any of his concerts. So when it came time for the concert I was finally going to, I hoped he would. And he did. The moment he said Love Belt would be next, I lost it inside. He sang Gloomy Clock as well which was another bonus. It was beautiful. I went to his encore concert as well when he added extra dates and when he sang “Skeleton Flower” I teared up. I really wish I could’ve seen “Elevator” live too, but never had a chance.
After reading his note, there’s one thing I wish I did. I had the chance to meet him back when he was promoting his Base album. I had gone to his pre-recording for Crazy in the early morning around 4AM. It takes about 2 days to get into a pre-recording, so my friend and I had a lot to do to get in. We succeeded, but afterwards, we were so sleepy that we just went home when it ended. I just want to thank Briana right now for spamming my KakaoTalk with messages in order to wake me up to tell me Jonghyun was having a fan meet for people who went to the pre-recording. I literally shot out of bed and just ran out of my apartment, caught a taxi, and paid about 60,000 won (~$55) to get to the location. I was late and Jonghyun was already talking to everyone (which was embarrassing cause I saw a lot of heads watch me come late all by myself, even Jonghyun turned to look over at this lonely girl coming super late lofl....), but thankfully the SHINee staff still let me join. I’m so glad my pre-recording number didn’t smear off while I was sleeping. When it was my turn to go up and shake Jonghyun’s hand and talk to him, I was nervous. At the time, all the Korean I knew had completely left my brain and I had no idea at all what to say, all I could say was “축하합니다” before his manager or staff, whoever it was, told me I needed to move on so the next person could go. I really wish I could’ve told him “수고했어요” now. But, what’s done is done.
Basically, I just wanted to write about how much SHINee and Jonghyun mean to me. Literally, if you want to be my friend, whether you like k-pop, hate it, knew about it, didn’t know about it, you HAD to know I loved SHINee and Jonghyun. Every one who knows me, knows I love Jonghyun, that is a fact. Because I couldn’t be myself if someone didn’t know. Jonghyun was literally a part of me that made me, well, me. When everything happened back in December last year, I had people who I haven’t talked to in YEARS write me and ask me if I was doing okay. More people messaged me that week than people did to wish me a happy birthday.
I’m not a very openly emotional person when it comes to the more sorrowful emotions. I don’t cry much, especially not in front of others. When I found out about Jonghyun, I was with a friend at the time for the whole week. I don’t like to cry in front of others for sad reasons, I literally can’t do it. My body just automatically stops it and I don’t know why. It especially sucks when I want to cry and I really wish I could just let it out, but my body just won’t allow it. Because of this, I’m the type of person who prefers to cry alone, because it’s the only time I actually can. It doesn’t bother me that no one is there to comfort me, because I prefer there not to be, at least not in person. So basically, that whole entire week of Jonghyun’s death that I was with my friend, I didn’t cry. I hated it. I wanted to cry because honestly, I felt so empty and weak that whole week. And crying just makes it feel better. However, I had it stored away until I was finally home by myself the end of that week. I was finally able to cry, even it was just a single tear.
But, I think his death is starting to catch up with me now. Ever since seeing that Lee Hi Jonghyun Tribute video, I keep rewatching it and I cry before I go to bed, and when I wake up. My body is finally letting it out.
I’m so thankful SHINee came to my hometown in Chicago back in 2016. The feeling is so much different when traveling somewhere to see them vs them actually coming to where you live, especially your town or city specifically. I’m so thankful I was able to see him in their last Dome Tour in 2017 in Osaka on Key’s birthday. I’m also just thankful in general for all the different times I was able to see Jonghyun. The very first time I was ever leaving America, I wrote my number one wish on a balloon and sent it off into the sky. I wrote “I hope to see SHINee.” And a couple months later, that wish came true at SHINee World 1. At that time, I thought I would never see SHINee live again for some reason, so I cherished it. And since then, I have seen SHINee and Jonghyun many, many times, and I’m so thankful. I don’t regret anything at all. Those were the best times of my life.
I want to thank Jonghyun for all he has done, all the great songs he has written, all the people he has helped and inspired. Personally, I have never dealt with depression or anything of the sort, but I know someone who has and who is, and I know Jonghyun was a big help and inspiration to that person to keep going. I’m very sad he had to leave this world, but I hope now he can rest well. His legacy and music will live on even if he isn’t here with us physically. SHINee World will forever be by his side and I know he will always be by ours. I hope SHINee, Jonghyun’s family, friends, and all my fellow Shawols out there all take care. Thank you for all you’ve done Jonghyun. It’s been hard. You did well. I love you.

Transition Diary: Day 94 (pt. 1, Day 92)
Okay, so let’s start with a thorough recap of Day 92, when I had my first 3 month follow-up and med adjustment for my HRT. To start with, I have a scab just below my mouth right now from nicking myself shaving. It’s kinda large. I had this worry that the doctor would see it, go “oh you have herpes, you’re just a slut, you don’t get anymore HRT.” So that was my big fear. Now onto the day itself. I went down and picked up my friend and coworker, Kathy (to be clear she is both friend and coworker, I am not referring to multiple people). I got to her place later than I intended, and was worried that I was going to be late to the station (I was intending to get to the train station at noon). I just ignored that though (since I had given myself an hour of wiggle room for things to go wrong), blasted some Against Me! and David Bowie and drove on down to the station. We ended up parking at exactly noon, From there, well, let me turn it over to the notes that Kathy took (possibly to help her with her nervousness?), slightly reorganized into chronological order:
“11:00 ARR at Kathy’s House
-took Blue line from Wardlow to Grand
-No $ owed :p (Editor’s Note: When I asked if I should pay as I checked in at the clinic, I was told that I didn’t have to, since I was still covered under the 3 months of coverage from my last payment, but that this was the last day I would be covered)
-1:22 - Fiona Called into DR’s ofc / BP TaKen (Note: before we got into the clinic, Kathy had never referred to me as she or Fiona, because she didn’t want to slip up and accidentally out me at work, but when we got there she was referring to me as such, even to the girl a chair or two over who seemed like she was there for her first HRT appointment and was kinda nervous. It really made me happy hearing her refer to me as Fiona/she. It was awesome)
-[redacted] (Note: this is where Kathy took note of what my weight was, which was far higher than I want, and even a few pounds higher than what my bathroom scale at home says)
-Ghostrider playing on screen (Note: the waiting room has a TV where they play movies)
-2:15 - Fiona Called into ofc
-> (turn page over)
-2:43 wtg nervously in the wg Room for Him Her - She was hyped enough to post on TumblR - I am taking 1/2 xanax and I’m a nervous Wreck-
-She rtnd at 2:55 upping Estradiol to 6mg from 4. Called Again - at receptionist
-Next Appt is Thursday, October 5th at 2:00 pm
-3:05 - wtg for Blood to Be drawn
-3:10 emily on heR way
-3:15 Emily Arrives”
Thank you for recording that Kathy <3
Okay, it kind of cuts off there because Kathy pretended to be too sleepy to take part in the conversation or anything while I chatted with Emily for like an hour. It was so much fun, but I was so self-conscious due to my crush on Emily (and I was worried that she would see my scab and think it was herpes and decide that I’m just a whore; I worry about these things). But yes, it was lovely. After like an hour, Emily suggested that I go ask about my blood draw, so I went and asked the girl at the counter about it. She said that I actually didn’t need to have my blood taken this time. That was a relief because I do not get along well with syringes. After that, I just waited for my pills. I hugged Emily on my way out (we had this conversation about hugs the other day and how we were both kinda wanting to go in for a hug after the dim sum lunch, but were too awkward to initiate it).
On our way back to the train station, Kathy started crying and told me “I’m going to miss (CURRENT LEGAL NAME). I know I’ll love Fiona too, but I’m still going to miss (CURRENT LEGAL NAME).” I hugged her and told her I understood. We had a moment and moved on.
After we got back to the Wardlow station, we drove out to Anaheim so that I could do some shopping at Blackcraft. It was my first trip to their new store (three doors down from where the old store was). It was as amazing as it always is. Blackcraft is pretty much, like, if someone took the inside of my head and made it into a store. It is my a e s t h e t i c. I bought myself three more shirts, a pin and a mug. Also, Blackcraft is the first place that I ever used the name Fiona in public, when I signed their guestbook. So Kathy and I looked through the guestbook to find my old signature, and then I signed it again with a note next to it marking how many days into my transition I am. I went to Blackcraft after my first appointment too. It’s part of it for me, I guess.
After that, we went down to Fountain Valley to grab dinner at Shin-Sen-Gumi Hakata Ramen, my favorite ramen joint. I hadn’t been to Shin since my birthday (August 17th) last year, when I went to the one in Little Tokyo with my family. I like the Fountain Valley one a little more. I order mine: hard noodles, thick oil, strong broth, add wontons, no chashu, add garlic chips, add hard-boiled egg, add bamboo. It was so fucking good. I ended up ordering extra noodles after I finished my first round. God I love Shin-Sen-Gumi. One day I will visit their yakitori place right next door.
We talked a lot over dinner, including a lot about my gender shit. It was such a nice meal.
After dinner we tried to head out to the Irvine Spectum so that I could pick up the TokiDoki Iron Maiden shirts, but we got there just after closing for the shops, while the restaurants were still open. We sat under the Ferris wheel and just talked for a long while. It was great.
Then we went to the Tebo Tebo Tea Lounge and got the chocolate box toast, I got a Sour Power slush (green apple and passion fruit flavors). After dessert, I dropped Kathy back off at her mom’s place.
After that I listened to the newest Knifepoint Horror episode and bought a fabric tapemeasure so that I could give the measurements you can see in the actual Day 92 episode.
I went to bed early that night.
I have said in the past that I wish I had transitioned earlier so that I could enjoy “being young.” That there was some sort of not-quite-quanitfiable experience I had missed out on. But, like, this was it. This was the sort of day that I had always wanted but never experienced.
It was perfect <3
