It has been a busy rainy Sunday. It started with running in the rain. All the while Hubby was working on the Cortina. Ironically trying to sort out problems with the windscreen wipers on such a rainy day. The afternoon was filled with sewing room time and with birthday celebrations. Not really a good day for the Son's favourite birthday tea of BBQ but Hubs made it work. The final piece of the big 6000 piece jigsaw puzzle was pushed into place. That was a hard puzzle. We are all happy to see it finished.

On His Birthday

Twenty three years ago, I was blessed beyond measure. I never knew what a special person he was going to turn out to be. He became my reason for waking, educating myself, and continuing to push forward when things became nearly unbearable. When he moved out a few years ago, I thought I would literally die (he moved across the road). Yes, I realize how stupid that sounds. Up until that point, I had spent most of my life living for him. He was my first child. I had no idea what I was going to do with my life before he entered it. Then suddenly, protecting him and providing for him was all I could think about. My focus became sharper than ever, yet I was wearing blinders.

I blinked and he was a grown man with a wife, and he didn't need me anymore. Who was this tall bearded man? It was near this time I realized I needed him more than ever. Emotionally I was a wreck, and he seemed to be the only person who could console me. Not wanting to be the kind of mother who "smothers" I tried to pretend everything was okay and I was fine. In my mind, I was fooling everyone, except I wasn't. He is gracious and kind and listened to many "crazy mom" phone calls. He truly is a special individual.

On his birthday I wish for him to have as much happiness and prosperity that he can stand. He has earned it. I raised him, but we grew up together. Happy birthday!
