James has Regulus pressed against the bathroom door. James’ hands are on Regulus’ hips as he kisses along his jaw. Regulus’ arms are around James’ neck as he runs his fingers through his hair.  

“We should get back.” Regulus mumbles as he tilts his head to give James more access to his neck.

“Okay.” James responds but makes no attempt to stop kissing.

“Sirius is going to kill us.” Regulus says, but he tightens his grip on James’ hair and whimpers as James nibbles down his neck.

“He’s not going to kill us; he’s going to be thrilled.” James says then bites down on Regulus’ collarbone. Regulus lets out a gasp that quickly turns into a moan.

“He’s going to be thrilled we had sex in his bathroom?” Regulus pulls James’ hair, bringing him back to his mouth.

“Okay, maybe not about the sex in his bathroom, but that we got back together at his birthday party.” James says after several minutes.

“He’s going to try and take credit for it somehow… He’ll end up saying something like… ‘You’re all here today because of me’… ‘This day wouldn’t even be happening if it wasn’t for me’.” Regulus mumbles between kisses.

James pauses and pulls back slightly to gaze into Regulus’ eyes as a smile grows on his face. Regulus gives him a questioning look.

“What day?” James asks with a smirk and Regulus furrows his eyebrows for a moment until he realizes what he said, what he implied. Regulus’ eyes go wide, and James’ smirk grows. After a moment Regulus just rolls his eyes.

“Stop talking about my brother and just shut up and kiss me, Potter.” Regulus says as he grips James’ hair and brings him back in for a kiss.

November 3rd 1959 - Sirius Black was born premature to Walburga and Orion Black.

November 3rd 1970 - Sirius Black received his letter to Hogwarts. Regulus Black cried, he didn't want his brother to leave.

November 3rd 1971 - Sirius Black's twelfth birthday. His new best friends, James Potter and Peter Pettigrew threw a surprise birthday party in their dorm. The three of them also snuck out after hours and dumped a bucket of soap on the caretaker, Filch. None of them realised their fourth member, Remus Lupin was tearing himself to shreds in the Shrieking Shack.

November 3rd 1972 - Sirius Black is contacted by his Aunt Andromeda. It was the beginning of Sirius Black's rock music phase. The Marauders (as dubbed by Professor McGonagall) pranked the school by casting rain clouds inside the Great Hall and soaking everyone.

November 3rd 1973 - Sirius Black got his first girlfriend, a Hufflepuff named Eleanor. Remus Lupin fought not to be angry about it and James potter organised a common room party with lots of music, people and the boys got their first taste of firewhisky.

November 3rd 1974 - Sirius Black realised he was queer when a fifth year Ravenclaw snogged him in the stairwell outside the loudest common room party yet. Remus Lupin was still in the Hospital Wing, however the boys snuck in close to midnight so he could say happy birthday.

November 3rd 1975 - Sirius Black kissed Remus Lupin when they were getting ready for the common room party. Sirius Black had then watched as Remus Lupin fled. Both of them got incredibly drunk and it would be a while before they talked.

November 3rd 1976 - Sirius Black didn't get a common room birthday that year. He didn't want one anyway, he was still reeling from what he'd done. Remus Lupin wished him a happy birthday for appearances sake. Neither of them could look each other in the eye.

November 3rd 1977 - Sirius Black had the best time of his life. He danced with his boyfriend, Remus Lupin, played 'Ballroom Blitz' to the record on his guitar in front of the entire House, danced some more with his boyfriend, played truth or dare with his friends, snuck to the Astronomy Tower with Remus Lupin, both incredibly drunk and dared each other to count the stars. They fell asleep and woke to the sound of owls screeching. Sirius Black knew this was the best birthday he would ever have.

November 3rd 1978 - Sirius Black knew the war had intensified. The Order barely had time to celebrate Christmas, let alone birthdays, however Euphemia Potter made him a red and gold cake and they had a small gathering in celebration. It was a quiet day and the threat of the war was in everyone's minds. If had felt wrong to celebrate when their friends were fighting for their lives.

November 3rd 1979 - Sirius Black didn't celebrate his birthday. He was still grieving the loss of his brother, Regulus Black. Remus Lupin tried to help, but he kept being pushed away until he stopped trying. Sirius Black knew that was the day things started to fall apart.

November 3rd 1980 - Sirius Black was in hospital after a mission gone wrong. Remus Lupin had sat by his bedside for three days until he was forcibly removed by Dumbledore and thrown back to the front lines. Sirius Black woke up the day after to an empty chair and a sad heart. Doubt began to set in and he urged the Potter's with newborn Harry to make Peter secret keeper.

November 3rd 1981 - Sirius Black sat alone in his cell, wishing upon every star he could go back and get one more hug from his Moony. Oh, he missed his moon so much. The stars didn't feel right without the moon. He didn't feel right without his Moony. He hadn't felt right in years.

Short 'n Sweet Fluff for Sirius’ birthday!

"I said no, Mary."

"Come on, Remus, please!"

"No. How the hell did you forget to get Sirius a gift anyway? We're literally going to his birthday party."

"Sirius has parties all the time!" Mary defends herself. "I didn't realise this particular one was for his birthday."

Remus shakes his head as he turns back to the door and rings the bell. "Well, that sounds very much like your problem."

"Remus, come on!" Mary begs. "Just add my name to your card!"

"No!" Remus says resolutely. "Do you have any idea how long it took me to find Sirius the perfect gift? I've been scattering the internet and every thrift store in town to find the perfect vintage band T-shirt to match the record I got him."

"It'll still be the same gift!" Mary argues. "Just from the two of us."

"But that'll make it... less special."

"How so? Instead of one friend, he'll have two friends who went out of their way for him! It'll only be better!"

"But I want him to know it was me, me especially, who's been going out of his way for him," Remus tries not to pout or sound too whiny. "Who tried for him and who's been thinking about him. And I can't tell him that, so I need this gift to tell him that for me."

Mary arches her eyebrow. "Your one of his best friends, he knows you care, whether you give a joint gift or not."

"But I want him to know I care care."

"What does that even mean?"

Fed up, Remus turns to Mary. "That I fancy him, okay? I like like him, like a lot! And I want this gift to impress him, to maybe, just maybe, let him see me in a different way. And I know that's foolish, but please, just let me have my foolish hope."

"Eh, hi?"

Remus whirls around to see Sirius standing in the door opening with a stunned look on his face. Both boys just stare at each other, Sirius clearly not knowing what to say, Remus wishing for the ground to swallow him up whole. Until Mary shoves Remus forward while cheerfully exclaiming "Happy birthday!"

"You really like it?" Remus asks, tentatively stroking his palms over the fabric.

"I love it. I love it so much," Sirius replies, looking down at his brand new T-shirt. "Thank you." A tad shy and a tad awkward, because it's still so new, he moves forward and presses a kiss to Remus’ lips, who turns bright red, but smiles like he can't believe his luck. Sirius smiles back and reaches out to stroke Remus’ cheek, before saying softly "Though it's not the best gift I've gotten today."

"And don't you forget it, Black!" Mary shouts from across the room. "I got you a real Remus Lupin-love confession. I'm off the hook for at least the upcoming ten birthdays."

It all started the day Sirius showed up at your doorstep, grinning mischievously and holding a camera. You’d had no idea he even owned one. Yet there he was, camera in hand, ready to capture everything in sight — and “everything” included you.

“Come on, love,” he said, bringing the camera up to his eye. “Just one shot. It’s like catching a little piece of you I get to keep forever.”

You scoffed, ducking out of frame, feeling that familiar twinge of discomfort creep up your neck. “I don’t know, Sirius… I’m just not photogenic. Really. You don’t need a picture of me.”

He pouted, but let it go, for that moment at least. But the camera became a staple in his life. And with it, he made it his personal mission to capture every beautiful moment — especially if it had you in it.

Whenever you two were out, Sirius would sneak out the camera, trying to snap a photo of you while you were distracted. You’d catch him just in time, turning away with a shy laugh, hiding behind your hands or whatever you could find. He never pushed, just smiled at your evasive maneuvers, a patient glimmer in his eyes.

And over time, he took to gently reminding you how beautiful you were.

“Honestly, love, you have no idea how gorgeous you look in my eyes,” he’d murmur, brushing a strand of hair from your face after you’d duck away from a quick photo attempt.

You’d roll your eyes, heart fluttering at his words but still feeling uncertain. “You’re biased,” you’d counter with a smile. He’d only chuckle, replying softly, “Maybe. But I know a good thing when I see it.”

This went on for months. He’d compliment you when you least expected it, his gaze lingering on you in a way that made you feel warm from the inside out. And slowly — so slowly, you hadn’t even noticed — you started seeing yourself a little bit the way he did.

Then one day, it just happened.

The two of you were out on a picnic, just the two of you and the camera he always brought along. As you watched the clouds roll by, he pulled out the camera and held it up, waiting for the familiar routine of you hiding your face. But something in you shifted. Instead of dodging, you straightened up, turning to face him directly.

And you… posed.

Sirius’ eyes widened slightly behind the lens, but he quickly recovered, snapping the photo before you changed your mind. As the camera clicked, a huge smile spread across his face.

Sirius’ gaze softened, and he looked at you like he was seeing the most beautiful sight in the world. He didn’t say anything at first, just looked at you, the corner of his mouth lifting in a gentle, almost reverent smile.

“What?” you asked, feeling a bit shy under his stare.

“You posed,” he murmured, voice thick with affection, and there was a sparkle in his eyes that melted every last bit of your camera shyness.

With a soft laugh, he set the camera down, moving closer to wrap his arms around you, pressing a kiss to your forehead.

“Thank you,” he whispered, his lips brushing your skin.

Sirius' birthday party except it's Regulus trying to smash his big brother's face into the cake every minute. He always has a large slice of chocolate cake in hand with a smug smile, Sirius's eyes darting back and forth at every conversation, torn between the person he is talking to and Regulus's smug smile and the looming threat of chocolate cake.

At the end of the night, he thinks he's safe so when Sirius and Regulus go in for a hug, that's when Regulus pushes the plate into Sirius' face.

“Balloons?” Sirius asked, going down his list.

“Check,” Remus said, dutifully. He’d gotten up early to see to the balloons himself. They now covered the ceiling, and there was a bunch tied to the guest of honor’s chair.

“Funfetti pancakes?”

“In the oven, under a stasis charm.”

“Presents?”

“Ready to go.” There was  a large pile of brightly colored gifts piled high, covering one end of the table.

“Time to do the honors then,” Sirius said, putting the list away and grinning. Remus couldn’t help grinning back. One might think it was Sirius’s birthday, given how excited he was.

They went up the stairs and quietly opened the door to the darkened room. Harry was still asleep, clutching his stuffed deer. Sirius and Remus sat down on either end of the bed. The movement jostled him a little and he blinked confusedly at them. 

‘Happy birthday, Harry,” Sirius said, pulling the little boy into a hug.

Sirius Black Appreciation Post

Time to celebrate Sirius Black's birthday by highlighting my favorite canon facts 🥳

Sirius is tall. We're talking at least 6'.

He's intelligent AF. He became an Animagus at 15. He charmed a Muggle motorbike to fly (Arthur couldn't do that with a car, Sirius did it in his late teens, latest at age 20). He escaped from Azkaban. He got a cat to order a racing broom. My man is brilliant, no doubt about it.

Sirius has a complicated relationship with his mother and it is *not* merely hatred. Note that he did not destroy his mother's portrait, or slash it as he did with the Fat Lady's. I'm confident that he could've figured out a way to destroy it or otherwise get rid of it, but he doesn't. His refuge is in his mother's old room with Buckbeak. There's something very complicated in his relationship with his family that can't be labeled as simple loathing. Sirius may have run away from home at 15/16, but his background 100% shaped him and left its mark on his personality and psyche.

Sirius was good friends with Lily. The letter from Lily to Sirius is great proof of that - it wasn't James who wrote that letter, but LILY. Sirius was smiling and genuinely happy at Jily's wedding.

Sirius is emotionally driven, and lashes out *with good reason.* When he goes after Wormtail the night the Potters died, it's because Harry is taken away from him. He has nothing to hold him down - and even gives his motorbike to Hagrid. When he tries to get to Wormtail in PoA, he slashes the portrait but doesn't harm a single boy in his search for the rat. When he goes to the Department of Mysteries, his focus is on Harry. These are good reasons, even if it puts him in danger.

Sirius has a great sense of humor. He puts little Santa hats on the decapitated elf heads. He chases pigeons as Padfoot just to make Harry smile. He sends a good luck note with a muddy paw print. He is scathingly funny, when he derides Peter's hero worship of James in Snape's Worst Memory. He's bitter and sarcastic. We love to see it.

Sirius is a baby boomer. He was born in 1959. "Ok, boomer," is an applicable retort.

Sirius is not misogynistic. He does not hate women. He is often kinder to women than men. He helps Ginny up in OoTP. No matter how angry he gets at Molly, he is never, ever physical with her (unlike the way Sirius is with snape, who he does get physically aggressive with). He is kind to Hermione. He had a great relationship with Lily. Even in the end, his last words to Bellatrix are 'you can do better than that.'

Sirius does not have a canonical love interest.

Sirius is willing to challenge Dumbledore. This is an important point - with so many people deferring to Dumbledore's judgment, including Remus, the Weasleys, and Harry - Sirius will challenge him and his decisions. He may not get his way, but Sirius has the personal strength and confidence to challenge one of the greatest wizards of all time.

Sirius was great with animals. Crookshanks and Buckbeak are prime examples of this.

Sirius is deeply flawed: he can get very intense. He can be rash, even if he has good reasons. He can be bitter to the point of hurting others ('the risk would've made it fun for James'). He can be cruel and condescending (my robes have enough filth without you touching them/wormail will piss himself with excitement). He can be callous (wishing it was the full moon, sending Snape on a potentially deadly adventure). He's a hurricane of deep, complex emotions.

Canon Sirius would obliterate fanon Sirius.

Happy birthday, Sirius. You would've loved James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna. You'd have had the time of your life at Hinny's wedding. You are an absolute king.

au where sirius flees the crime scene as padfoot, so instead of going to azkaban, he ends up at a dog shelter. and he's not very adoptable bc he's big and scary and clearly a bit traumatised, but he's SO GOOD with the puppies and all the staff adore him, so they keep him there to mentor the puppies.

and then one day remus gets lonely and starts visiting dog shelters. he can't afford to adopt/take care of a dog, so he just sits with them, takes them for walks, etc.

and then one day he visits padfoot's dog shelter. he shakily offers to take padfoot for a walk. a brotherly embrace ensues. remus adopts not only padfoot but the 17 puppies who consider padfoot to be their father the end <3
