Thank you all so much for another successful run of Shrinkyclinks Fest! Altogether the works add up to 150K words of new Shrinkyclinks content and six new artworks! We want to thank all our wonderful writers, artists, promoters, promoters, readers, and supporters. We will see you all next year!

Steve hears a muffled sound coming from behind the dumpster, but that’s not what makes him look; no, it’s the metallic scent in the air which, with a creeping feeling of dread, he hopes isn’t blood. He looks. It’s blood.

And there’s a man sitting right in a puddle of it, leaning heavily against the brick wall and clutching his side with a metal hand.

ANIME & MANGA I HAVE BINGED IN THE LAST MONTH: May 2021

I've Been Hunting Slimes for the Past 300 Years and Now Ive Maxed Out My Level: incredibly long name aside, cute af slice of life that suffers Same Face Syndrome. I'm still happy to watch it because of how feel good and fluffy it is though, Im probably gonna forget about it in two or three years tho. 8/10.

Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro: I found out this was a webcomic first and suddenly all the HORNINESS made so much more sense. A Femdom, Degradation, Humiliation, Dacryphilia Bullies to Lovers story disguised as a high school rom-com which, I'm not going to lie, misses SKEEVY CITY by mere inches on a regular basis. However, I'm a Dom/Switch and this entire relationship sets off my dom brain center like New York City just shy of midnight. So if you're into that sort of scene, this anime is for you. If not, it's still fascinating but you're probably gonna be a little put off by how mean the Girl!Bully is to the guy MC. Unless you find out something about yourself, in which case, congrats! Stay safe, sane, consensual, and learn about the traffic light system on top of safe words, I promise you'll have a better life in general after that. Still Ongoing, currently 10/10.

Fruits Basket: IM GONNA CRY I LOVE THIS ANIME SO MUCH???? The original anime came out when I was in... I think middle school and my parents were really strict on what I watched so I never got to experience the first wave and I never bothered to watch the show ever after I moved out of the house years later. However, now that I'm much older I honestly can say this is one of my favorite anime to date, and all the characters are charming, lovable, with their own problems that I can connect to or sympathize with, and I love the MC which is always a treat tbh. Except Akito. Akito can suck a sandpaper dick. I'm only on S2 tho so no spoilers! Anime 11/10.

Monster Girl Doctor: went in thinking it was gonna be a monster girl who's a doctor with a homoerotic assistant (her name is SAPPHY okay sue me for thinking it) and ended up watching the entire dubbed harem series. Honestly, I've seen worse and this one has consistent follow-through on interesting characters and backstory enough for me to shove aside the blatant under-monstrousness of the female monsters and the harem-ness of everything else. Dubbing is honestly really good, which is a treat, and the monster designs are not the worst and the MC is tolerable. Honestly, I don't mind having watched it! The mix of cgi and the traditional animation together work pretty strangely though, and it often doesn't flow super well. 7.5/10

So I'm a Spider, So What: Dubbed version which honestly isn't that bad. Took me a bit to get into it, but after realizing that it's got a mismatched timeline a la The Witcher, it made so much more sense. Heavily done in cgi, and you can definitely tell between the 2D and 3D animations, but not the worst in the world. I went in not expecting much but it ended up being an Issekai I can stand and even enjoy. On god has a decent story... with the spider. I'd be a liar if I didnt say I skipped some of the human parts just to get back to the best part of the show. 8/10.

Somali and the Forest Spirit: I'm so fucking nostalgic for this thing it makes me want to go and hug my dad. About a human girl under threat of being eaten with a monster-dominated world. Very obvious "humans fear what they don't understand" message but instead of the humans learning tolerance it's what happens when they get annihilated first so like, kudos for the mangaka for having the guts to do that. I cried like a baby regularly. It's really good, I watched the dub and ID WATCH IT AGAIN!!! 9/10.

To Your Eternity: Oh my god. O h my g o d. Fell in love on the first episode, ngl. About if an immortal being learned how to be a person from scratch. I love it. HOWEVER. Keep a box of tissues on you at all times because you're gonna need them. I'm only on EP7 because that's all that's out right now but just know. I love it. Not for everyone but certainly for my "what do we define as human and the human condition" ass. 12/10.

Those Snow White Notes: A sports anime without any sports. About shamisen playing which is cool because I never realized how cool this instrument was??? Its neat af. OP1&2 are by Burnout Syndrom so know theyre fire. Gonna be real, its pretty alright, but not extraordinary. You can tell they were using the characters as archetypes rather than actually characters which kinda kills a lot of the emotional value you could've had, but I'm still gonna watch it. It doesn't make me cringe as hard as other sports anime tho so I consider it toptier in that regards but if you're a big sports anime fan you might be bummed out by it. Every single musical performance is INCREDIBLE tho. A solid 8/10.

Toilet Bound Hanako-kun: THE ART OMFG IT'S SO GORGEOUS. Listen, if you took coptic markers and gave them an animation budget with some manga panel direction thrown in there, that's this anime. It's beautiful. Gorgeous. I'm in love with the aesthetic every second. Story? Really good. Characters? I love the MC and his evil little twin brother asshat. Demons? Not super imaginative but I'm carrying on happy as can be anyways. Dubbing? A bit shaky at times but I found the voices charming if a little off for some of them. I'm already waiting for the second season with popcorn at the ready. 10/10.

Prison School: I watched this directly after Hanako-kun and it was like I got slapped in the face by sweaty unwashed titties and some fedora wearing schmuck's piss kink. No character is likable or redeemable. I finished it, but at what cost? 2/10 and only because a character shit his pants and I laughed.

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle: watched this right after Prison School and it was NECESSARY tbh. Its so CUTE and honestly, im not even kidding you, the fucking funniest anime I've seen in months. I watched the dub and the VAs are having the time of their lives working on this anime not just giving it their all but literally just going ham. Its great. If I read this im sure id be bored outta my mind but the VAs giving it a joyous performance make it an insta fave for me tbh. 9/10.

Sk8 the Infinity: i watched the dub with my bro and I can confirm that its a spectacular show because we both loved it and we have vastly different tastes. Incredibly SUSPENSFUL AND STRESSFUL for an anime about skateboarding but we finished it in a single sitting tbh. The last episode is not dubbed for some reason but we still loved it. Like if Free! was less obnoxious but the only fan-service here is Joe ♡ a beefcake who owns my lesbian heart. I think there's exactly one named female character tho and I legit couldn't tell you what it was if there was a gun to my head. So, over all, 9.5/10.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: I'm going to be entirely honest, I went in thinking it was going to be a boring isekai of no value. I was right about the Isekai part. It was honestly pretty interesting and focused on nation building like you're playing civilization rather than the usual "Get Stronger" narrative or "Get Some Pussy" narrative most isekais take which is delightfully refreshing. Granted there are flavors of that in this which means it doesn't alienate the big isekai watchers out there, but it's not the whole dish and it doesn't make me want to cringe the same way others do. You've got a slime MC just vibing and building a nation of monsters nbd. Does lose points for making the female monsters more humanoid than their male counterparts but makes them back by only doing perfunctory fan-service and nothing that makes me want to cry... except the butt sumo episode but in fairness it was all a terrible dream. Literally, the MC refuses to dream anymore after that. solid animation, decent voice acting, decent story, made me realize how HUGE this is in the Light Novel community???? There's like 18 fucking novels and that's WILD. 8.5/10.

MANGA:

Spirit Photographer Saburo Kono: a one shot special by the mangaka of The Promised Neverland! Honestly a really delicate touch of both super creepy and really touching, and I'm not gonna lie I'm bummed that this isn't a bigger project but the single chapter makes it a good taste for their style. I've been wondering if I wanna read/watch The Promised Neverland and now I think I will. 10/10

Deranged Detective Ron Kamonohashi: from the mangaka of Hitman Reborn comes this Sherlock and Watson derivative! Not even 20 chapters out yet with a sort of spotty schedule, I honestly love it even thought it's exactly as you expect. HOWEVER. Kamonohashi the "Sherlock" character uses mental pressure to kill all confirmed murderers and it's up to Toto the "Watson" character to save all those people before Kamonohashi kills them! It's just recently introduced a "Moriarty" family of crime lords (not a big spoiler don't worry it was obvious) so the tension surrounding Ron's past is amping up rn. Personally, I think the art is GORGEOUS, the characters engaging, and the story quick enough to keep my interest. Most mysteries are solved within a chapter or two so you're not stuck 20 chapters into one locked room mystery which is just peachy tbh. RN, 10/10. If this gets an anime, I anticipate a legion of fangirls who ship the two main characters along with their many friends. I've been alive too long to believe otherwise.

Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro: Yeah I read the manga after I watched the show. A slower build than the anime, but it works for the format, if theyd done the same with the show then I don't think it wouldve done as well. Honestly? Cuter tbh but just as horny. You dont start really LEARNING about your character until like, chap 65 tho and no real "drama" happens until like 75. A good chunk of the chapters are like 8pgs so its a breeze to get through. I love these slow burn idiots of the century. 9.5/10 because you can DEFINITELY tell the mangaka does hentai too.

Yugen's All-Ghouls Homeroom: one-shot by the mangaka for Food Wars, it's no wonder there's this constant perviness from the MC, a guy who can see and exorcise spirits. Takes place at an all girl's finishing school with KICK ASS monsters tbh, kinda bummed its not longer. The MC? Blatant monsterfucker who is also a CONFRIMED monsterfucker???? Idk i vibe with that single emotion. Everything else is hit or miss. 7/10 for monsters and cool concept, lost points for the MC very pointedly being okay with admitting he'd wait for the teenagers to be adults tho. Creepy af. Could live without that.

Hell's Paradise: I finished the entire 127chps in 3 days and I was really enthusiastic about it 90% of the time thinking about how deep it was and then I actually thought about it and I ended up being very neutral about the whole thing tbh. The art is fantastic tho, but DEFINITELY deserving of the M rating. Tits. Tits everywhere. But not tits to be ecchi over, no, monster hermit tits on beautiful women-ish figures. Now generally I give that a pass but a huge theme in the story is that men and women are "no better than one or the other" but like, lady tits are what you see 99% of the time. Men tits are few and far between. I call bullshit on most of the "deep" themes is what I'm saying, so it's like the mangaka was trying for those deep thoughts but missed the margin a little too far for my preference. That being said, the MC is a married man who loves his wife which automatically makes him my favorite character so like... idk so many good things, so many misses, but overall really spectacular themes and imagery. Unique but classic all at once. It's getting an anime and I have NO IDEA how much censorship they're gonna be doing but they're going to be doing SO MUCH. Oh yeah, and one guy is a plant/human hybrid who fucks a 1000 year old plant-hermit which makes him a canon monster fucker. And one canon non-binary character who I, a nonbinary, actually like. So like... gosh I've got mixed feelings. 8.5/10.

Choujin X: From Sui Ishida, mangaka to the mega hit Tokyo Ghoul comes this brand new manga!... Of one chapter, lol. Not really binge-y because it's just the one chapter out right now but I'm already keeping my eye on it. The grasp on anatomy in the art is PHENOMENAL and you can see Ishida flexing his art skill which is great. Can't give a true rating but I'm giving it a tentative 9/10 because I'm excited to see more.

Shag&Scoob: technically not a manga, its an ongoing webcomic I binged an subscribed to in one day and I just think it deserves more attention. Starts off funny with "what if Scooby Doo had a gun" and has been led to "what if all cartoons are aliens that survive and receive their powers by the humans that love them in an epic war with Martians." On god, its good. I finished the current series in a couple hours so it's a breezy read, highly recommend it. 9/10.

To Your Eternity: Yeah I watched the anime and then finished all current 143 chapters in like 3 days. GOD IM WEAK. I don't buy physical manga unless I know I want to remember the story forever and I'm already budgeting for the current books out. Yeah, this is a good series. That being said, definitely not for the faint of heart or those who suffer under common triggers like suicide, molestation, death, etc. It's all framed as bad and necessary to the story don't get me wrong, but it's there and has lasting affects on the characters. Incredible story telling by the creator of A Silent Voice. Keep tissues nearby at all times. 12/10.

Currently these are my Drarry stories (not including drabbles), Scarry (including drabbles), Other Slash pairings, and Het pairings. I will be adding My gen fics, gift drabbles, etc... as I get more time. Most can all be found on AO3 right now but just not organized. :)

Just a quick note about commenting on my fics. I love comments and to engage with my readers. If you have a question, comment, or whatever I'm open to discussion. As long as it's not a flame, I'll usually respond back. I do ask that you read my tags, warnings, and notes as many of my fics contain controversial genres and situations. I don't bite or even claw so feel free to inquire.

Hi! Welcome to my HP fanfic collection. I became an HP fanfic reader in 2005 and then writer in 2006. I took an almost decade break in 2012 but put my toes back into the waters now and then to respond to comments or make a post on LJ. I came back into fandom full force in June 2021 when I signed up for HP_fan_fair. H/D, HPDM, or Drarry has always been my OTP, but Scarry is my second. But I also love to write the rare-pair now and then along with gen short stories. I've separated my fics out by my writing era and then by ship.

All of my fics are individually rated and have warnings. However, we did rate and tag things differently back in the day, so if you think I should add a warning or tag, send me a message. I assure you, there were no bad intentions involved.

My Drabbles can be assumed to be G to PG, unless otherwise noted. I love writing drabbles and I hope that some readers will take the time to look at a few of them. *g*

Most of my stories are now posted on AO3 and are not to be copied to any other site without my permission. (historically they were originally posted on various HP fanfic sites. Majority of H/D were on Hex Files.

As I was a prolific writer back-in-the-day (2006-2012) and then took a very long hiatus (10 years), I'll be listing my current stories first. After that, it will be a mishmash of ships and gen. I hope you find something you like!

Drarry (Harry/Draco) & Haphne (Harry/Daphne)

The Azkaban Letters (WIP 2024): This WIP was started in 2007 and picked back up in 2023. It is still being updated. Currently 39/42 chapters (as of 11/27/24).

Summary: Harry and Draco’s lives are headed in two different directions. One is destined for death or glory, while the other is going to Azkaban. Harry needs answers, and he goes to visit his Slytherin nemesis while being held for trial. The meetings in a barren, white cell changes Harry’s life. He learns the beginnings of his rich family history that had been denied him. And that there's much more to fight for than just ridding the world of Voldemort. HBP compliant.

Note: This fic was started before HPDH was released. It is canon divergent after HBP. This fic has two Main Pairings and both are treated with respect and will have a happy ending. I chose to use AO3's: Creator Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings because of the underage sexual scenes (all are 17 and consensual).

What Doesn't Happen in Venice Stays In... (Autumn 2024) written for @hd-fan-fair's H/D Muggle Fair (2024) (self-prompt of Honeymoon gone awry) I started this fic in 2009 and it stayed in my WIP folder until now! Yay for completing works started.

Summary: After a whirlwind year of dating, Harry and Draco are getting married. Never mind that their friends and every reader of the Daily Prophet disapprove of their being together. But ignoring all of them, they believe in each other. Draco, on his part, gleefully takes on planning their honeymoon. The week they were to spend in Venice was scheduled down to the hour. It was perfect, according to Draco. But we all know what happens to the best laid plans. Will their marriage survive the first day? Will friendships with others ever recover? Will there be a happy ending? Of course, there will be, but hold on for the ride.

Pansmione (Pansy/Hermione)

The Supergrass (Valentine's 2024) written for HP Sapphic's Valentines (prompt Auror/Criminal)

Summary: For the past year, Auror Hermione Granger has been coming monthly to Sister Hildegard's Wellness Emporium (attached to St Mungo's) for her Healer-ordered full-body massage because of work-induced stress and injuries. It was the perfect cover for meeting with the DMLE's main supergrass, Pansy Parkinson, who was now a trained masseuse thanks to the Ministry's Criminal Rehabilitation Act. An Act that Hermione Granger had pushed for through her connections at the Wizengamot. A contractual promise was made to Pansy that after one year, if her information led to the arrests and convictions of wanted Dark Wizards, her court-ordered probationary period of ten years for supporting Voldemort and those that served him, would be reduced to time already served. She would be free from all Ministry restrictions.

Today, Valentine's Day, is their last meeting.

Note: Supergrass is a British slang term for an informant who turns King's evidence, often in return for protection and immunity from prosecution.

Summary: Harry volunteers to be Father Christmas at Hogwarts, without truly understanding what it entails.

The first 5 chapters of this fic were written in 2009. I finally completed the final 2 chapters in 2023. In addition, the amazing Ihopeyoustaysafefromharm Illustrated this fic (FTH). This fic is a lot of fun and filled with Father Christmas Cheer!

Rating: Mature Wordcount: 18K Warnings & Enticements: Romance, Explicit Language, Sexual Content, Christmas Legend, Mentions of: Animal Sacrifice, Slavery, and Prostitution. Liberties taken with historical accuracy of Christmas' origins.

Terminal Lucidity (Autumn 2023) written for hd_career-fair

Summary: Harry leaves his Auror position when his dreams drive him to a new profession. One that brings peace to the soul before Death arrives.

This is one of my shortest but probably on of most impactful fics. It was written for gnarf and deals with caring for someone at the end of their life (not Harry or Draco). Harry is the Master of Death.

Rating: Gen Wordcount: 3.2K Warnings: MCD. Enticements: Harry and Draco become a couple later in life. In this fic, they are probably in their early 50s and have merged their families. The whole family will miss their beloved Nana Narcissa.

Drarry

The Roommate (Winter 2022) written for @hd-erised

PODFIC of the Roommate, (Autumn 2024) narrated by the fabulous Cailynwrites (AO3). Honestly this is a gem. 4 1/2 hours.

Summary: After one year in Azkaban and two years of home arrest, Draco is going off to college. Myrrdin College is Oxford’s magical college, where one Harry Potter is currently attending. Both are going for their teaching certificates with Draco specialising in Potions and Harry in Defence Against the Dark Arts. The Headmistress has insisted all incoming professors must be degreed. However, the Board of Governors insist that Draco also must live in a Muggle house with limited allowance and take Muggle elective courses before he can become Hogwarts' new Potions Professor. Harry is coerced by others into helping Draco Malfoy survive in the Muggle world.

This is a soft fic. I wouldn't say fluffy as there are major subjects discussed and dealt with but angst between the two is not present. Harry's goal is to make Draco fall in love with the Muggle world...and he might have succeeded to well. So wrap yourself up in the warm blanket of The Roommate, oh and Scamp the cat, too!.

Rating: M Wordcount: 42K Warnings: This fic contains a brief fatphobic comment, implications of past food insecurity, and references to past corporal punishment of a child. In addition, mentions of Trichotillomania and lice are briefly discussed. Enticements: Scamp the cat, Draco learning about Muggle appliances, Blaise insisting Draco watch Legally Blonde.

Eight Days a Week (Summer 2022) written as a chapter fic...just because.

Summary: This is foremost a love story and second it's about those growing up years. Becoming adults with adult lives and adult decisions. Yes, Harry's a Trainee-Auror and Draco's a Healer-in-Training after the war. Yes, Harry eventually moves into 12 Grimmauld Place. And, yes, attraction happens between Harry and Draco and they fall in love, but then there's more. Draco is now free from Voldemort, free from fear of going to Azkaban, free from his Father's beliefs, and free to be the person, the witch, the woman she always felt she should be. And for Harry, it’s time to lose the shackles of his childhood and discover who he really is and what’s truly important in life. This story begins one year or so after the Battle at Hogwarts and follows their relationship faithfully for two years. The final chapter will take place later in their lives.

This is a positive transition story without body dysphoria, but will contain moments where prejudice and slights arise. This story is categorized as M/F.

Summary: The holiday scenes cover 2001-2023 followed by a future scene. The majority are under 500 words, but there are a few over 1K. The complete set is very family oriented as we learn more about the children's backgrounds and how Harry and Libby cope. Lots of fun!

Every Cottage Has A Story (March 2022) written for Salt and Pepper Fest 2022

Summary: Harry and Ginny Potter live in a cottage in Hogsmeade. The previous owner was their eldest son James Sirius Potter, but he now lives in the home he grew up in, 12 Grimmauld Place. The switch happened years before, when his third child came along, and the cottage was too small for the family and Grimmauld Place was too large for his parents. How Draco Malfoy fit into his parents lives he wasn’t quite sure. James did know that his brother and brother-in-law were the instigators of the situation, though. When they became friends in the House of Slytherin, eventually their parents did too. After the death of Astoria, Draco was known to bring a friend, always a different friend, to family occasions. Then after a decade or so he would just show up alone. When his parents moved into the Hogsmeade cottage, so did Draco Malfoy. Rating: Gen Audience Wordcount: 5.5K Warnings: Threesome F/M/M

Home is Where the Cat is (Winter 2021) written for @hd-erised. Gift for @m0srael

Summary: It’s summer and the war is over. Harry is busy in Auror training, attending Wizengamot trials for Slytherin classmates, and having tea with Narcissa Malfoy. Draco is at Hogwarts sharing deep dark secrets with classmates whilst helping with the reconstruction. Someone on the Wizengamot doesn’t think the older Slytherin students should be allowed to return to Hogwarts, whilst Harry does. Repressed emotions get the better of him. After storming out of the Ministry swearing never to come back, but before he lifts his wand for the Knight Bus outside of the Leaky Cauldron on his quest for a normal life, there’s a kiss in the Slytherin boys’ dormitories. A/N: This was so much fun to write. It might be the softest of the longer fics I've written but I wouldn't say fluffy as serious concepts are dealt with. It does feature a purring Draco...literally.

This Ain't the Garden of Eden (Autumn 2021) written for@hd-fan-fair (career edition).

Summary: In 2020, Hit Wizard Harry is starting to enjoy his life. He’s divorced, and no longer Head Auror. His biggest project these days is trying to remodel 12 Grimmauld Place for him and the kids. Draco Malfoy is recovering from his wife’s death. But is happy with his Ministry position as Temporary Head of the Department of Intoxicating Substances, and with his son who he adores. This all changes quickly when Minister Shacklebolt decides not to run for another term. The assumption is that 'all is well' in the British Magical world, and that Hermione Granger-Weasley will easily be voted in as the next Minister for Magic. However, Draco knows better. He knows she has a strong competitor who is wooing those who live in Knockturn. And if he wins, the Ministry, and all that has been accomplished the previous twenty odd years, will be destroyed Rating: Explicit Warnings: Nothing Major. Rotten Wood Draco/Pansy (Summer 2007). Rating: Mature Word Count: 3K Summary: Missing Moment from canon. Draco is returning for his seventh year at Hogwarts. He boards the train knowing his status among his fellow Slytherins is in question. HPDH Compliant. Warning: This is not a Romantic fic Note: The title ‘Rotten Wood’ is a line from the song “Crooked Teeth” by Death Cab for Cutie. The song was the inspiration for this story. Probably the most in-character Draco I've written.

Green Boots Lucius/Hermione (Spring 2008). This was written for Shiv5486's 40th birthday. She is a huge Lumione fan and has a thing for shoes. Rating: Explicit Word Count: 600 (in drabble form). Summary: When Draco is tasked to tidy Grimmauld Place, he's not surprised at the constant need to yell at Potter: "Not that old shirt, what part of 'keeping things that spark joy' are you unable to grasp?!" What he doesn't expect, however, is helping Potter to let go of his past and put both of their ghosts to rest.

Excerpt: Draco pulls his box towards him. "You told me your stories as we packed," he says. Even though his words are addressed to Potter, he only has eyes for the plain white box. He takes another deep, fortifying breath. "So, I thought it's only fair if I told you some of mine."

And then he lifts up the lid of the box, something he hasn't done in almost two years.

Draco isn't prepared for this towering, sweeping wave of nostalgia and loss. Even though it feels like a lifetime ago, he will never forget the suffocating pain and fury as he grieved for his loved ones; those who were dead, missing and those who fled the country, leaving him all alone—

But he'd survived, didn't he?

Rec Notes: Draco is a KonMari Tidying Specialist. Harry is a 9-5 Ministry of Magic office employee, and spends his time playing Sirius’ guitars and teaching others to play. After many failed set-ups and the onset of winter, Harry retreats inside Grimmauld and stops spending time with his friends. Hermione then requests Draco’s help in tidying Grimmauld. Through his help, Harry is able to conquer the ghosts that roam his home. Draco in turn is able to find the strength to do the same.

This story was absolutely gorgeous from beginning to end. Draco as a tidying specialist makes so much sense, and it is a job that fits him perfectly.

This story starts out very light hearted and not until they make it to the end of tidying do they start showing their grief. The author mentions in their note that the passing of her beloved rabbit led to them writing this. You can feel the author’s grief in this story. It is so raw and real. This story was absolutely devastating.

This story ends on a high note. Just as winter turns to spring, both Harry and Draco are able to tackle the ghosts of their pasts and move on. You also learn that without Hermione, these two would still be miserable and pining after each other.

This story truly “Sparked Joy.”

Okay, so I’m listening to the playlist @sixweekoldhedgehog made me. I’ll reblog with a link to the playlist!

My verdict:

Track 1. I enjoyed the aesthetic. Very much in line with my lack of taste in music, but the video weirded me out with how much that lady was staring at the camera. Stop looking at me, Madam.

Track 2. This is Initial D music. K-Eurobeat? J-Eurobeat exists so I don’t see why Korea can’t have their own trashy Europop scene. VERY cute lady.

Track 3. Korean Bruno Mars: IT’S LADIEZ NIGHT, SHORTY. FRESH LIKE A B-BOY. I’M A PRETTY BOY YEAH I’M A MACHO MAN. 10/10, made me laugh with second hand embarrassment. Shout out to Korean James Bond who looks like one of the young people at work.

Track 4. Oh this is EXO! So these are the fuckers who made all the Pepero boxes in Dublin sell out on my birthday because their stupid faces were on them. I hate them on sight. Cute little song with all the elements of a fun, campy pop song that I’d like if these weren’t Pepero thieves.

...They have American football in Korea? Why?

Track 5. I feel like I recognise the man singing at the beginning of this song, but I don’t know from where. Apparently this was filmed in Sweden! That’s cool. Very 90′s, almost. Bored me a bit, admittedly.

Track 6. Very cute girls.Liked that they had a Grover with them. The romantic tension between the girl drawing the heart on the rollerskate and the girl who owned the skate...

Track 7. A concerning number of this boy band look like they’re into Esports. Blondie’s got those 2018-19 pre-swole Jjonak vibes.

Track 8. I only know of NCT from the recent discourse so this is interesting. Which one of these fuckers is Marxk? Also this song is outright a Eurovision entry. I can imagine Britain sending something like this for 2021.

Track 9. Eyeshadow looks! I like the robot. A nice song, just not to my taste. I like the chorus.

Track 10. Starts like a belter and continues like one. Also there hasn’t been even one non-gorgeous woman in any of these videos. Only critique is that it could be longer.

Track 11. This man called me a bitch, spat on a child and bought a local school to turn it into luxury apartments. He looks amazing. Song’s a little boring though.

Track 12. This is what the Top 40 sounds like in Ireland and HOLY SHIT A GOAT.

Track 13. I’m a fan of red velvet in cake form so these girls were off to a good start, but this track just sounds like a particularly boring Little Mix or Fifth Harmony song. Sadly generic.

Track 14. Belter. Particularly interesting voice on the girl in the red suit. Deserving of good feedback. Apparently something very sad happened to these girls judging by the comments? My favourite ladies of the night.

Track 15. Makings of a belter. Would be more impressed if they didn’t come after the ladies who came previously. Generic vocals but a good baseline which is very important. Wish I had the big comfy white jumper that one guy was wearing while he was falling around the 2000s pop video white corridor. Apparently these guys keep having shit ideas or something.

Track 16. This looks like a Paco Rabanne ad. Was uncomfortable with his stripping and Captain America hair, but fair play to him for being so proud of his body. HOLD ON HE’S IN A FUCKING SYNTHWAVE ASS CAR WITH ALL THE LIGHTS FLASHING BY. Cut the rest of the video and have him drive the cool car more!

Track 17. I swear to God this has played in an H&M while I was browsing through the rails. The DHL shirt was an absolute powermove I wasn’t expecting. I’m guessing they sponsored the video or maybe that girl’s dad works there.

Track 18. The world’s cutest cowgirl bankrobbers. A very classic girl group kind of song that makes me think of Gal fashion with all the booty shorts and circle lenses. I feel bad for the girl in the back who the camera never seems to pick up on. Girl group unions NOW.

Track 19. Ironically, a group called SEVENTEEN are track 19. I like when that one guy went ‘rrrrr’. The idea of racing a bunch of Korean idols is something I think could actually work as a TV show. All band fan rivalries would finally get resolved by making them compete in athletics. Also: Jesus there’s a lot of lads in this group. Are there literally 17 of them? Why’d they launch a car with their friend in it?! STOP DANCING YOU COULD HAVE DIED.

Track 20. The final track. Somewhat chill beats to relax and study to. These lads rapping about having a hard knock life when they look like they went to private school, but I don’t know enough about them to dispute that. Hope they make their mothers proud as the song suggests they want to do.

All in all there were a few songs I really liked here! Tracks 1, 10 and 14 are the big winners of the evening. Everyone seemed very good at dancing in particular. Thank you so much for making this for me, Hedgehog!

Last night, in a speech to honor Independence Day, President Joe Biden used his administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic to defend democracy.

Biden urged people to remember where we were just a year ago, and to “think about how far we’ve come.” “From… silent streets to crowded parade routes lined with people waving American flags; from empty stadiums and arenas to fans back to their seats cheering together again; from families pressing hands against a window to grandparents hugging their grandchildren once again. We’re back traveling again. We’re back seeing one another again. Businesses are opening and hiring again. We’re seeing record job creation and record economic growth—the best in four decades and, I might add, the best in the world.”

The president was referring, in part, to the jobs report that came out on Friday, showing that the nation added a robust 850,000 non-farm jobs in June.

But he was also talking about how the United States of America took on the problem of the pandemic. Coming after two generations of lawmakers who refused to use federal power to help ordinary Americans, Biden used the pandemic to prove to Americans that the federal government could, indeed, work for everyone.

The former president downplayed the pandemic and flip-flopped on basic public health measures like masking and distancing. Unlike most European and Asian countries, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, the Trump Administration sidelined the country's public health agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, considered to be the top national public health agency in the world. Trump downplayed the seriousness of the coronavirus out of fear of hurting the stock market, and turned over to states the process of dealing with this unprecedented crisis. The U.S. led the world in COVID-19 deaths. More than 603,000 Americans have died so far.

When he took office, Biden had already begun to use the government response to coronavirus as a way to show that democracy could rise to the occasion of protecting its people. The day before his inauguration, President Biden held a memorial for the 400,000 who had, to that date, died of COVID-19. He put Dr. Rochelle Walensky, a renowned infectious disease expert, at the head of the CDC and reinstated the CDC at the head of the public health response to the pandemic. And he made vaccines accessible to all Americans. Fifty-eight percent of American adults have been fully vaccinated against coronavirus; 67% have had at least one shot. The U.S. has one of the highest vaccine rates in the world and is helping to vaccinate those in other countries, as well.

Biden recalled that the United States of America was based not on religion or hereditary monarchy, but on an idea: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all people are created equal, endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights—among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

We have never lived up to that ideal, of course, but we have never abandoned it, either. Those principles, he said, “continue to animate us, and they remind us what, at our best, we as Americans believe: We, Americans—we believe in honesty and decency, in treating everyone with dignity and respect, giving everyone a fair shot, demonizing no one, giving hate no safe harbor, and leaving no one behind.”

But, he said, democracy isn’t top down. “Each day, we’re reminded there’s nothing guaranteed about our democracy, nothing guaranteed about our way of life,” he said. “We have to fight for it, defend it, earn it…. It’s up to all of us to protect the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; the right to equal justice under the law; the right to vote and have that vote counted; the right.... to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and know that our children and grandchildren will be safe on this planet for generations to come… the right to rise in the world as far as your God-given [talent] can take you, unlimited by barriers of privilege or power.”

Biden’s speech recalled that of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on June 5, 1944, upon the fall of Rome during World War II. It was Italian leader Benito Mussolini who articulated the ideals of fascism after World War I, envisioning a hierarchical world in which economic and political leaders worked together to lead the masses forward by welding them into a nationalistic, militaristic force.

In his 1944 speech, FDR was careful to explain to Americans how they were different from the Italian fascists. He talked about “Nazi overlords” and “fascist puppets.” Then, in contrast to the fascists�� racial hierarchies, FDR made a point of calling Americans’ attention to the fact that the men who defeated the Italian fascists were Americans from every walk of life.

And then he turned to how fascism treated its people. “In Italy, the people have lived so long under the corrupt rule of Mussolini that in spite of the tinsel at the top—you have seen the pictures of it—their economic conditions have grown steadily worse. Our troops have found starvation, malnutrition, disease, a deteriorating education, a lower public health, all byproducts of the fascist misrule.”

To rebuild Italy, FDR said, the troops had to start from the bottom. “[W]e have had to give them bread to replace that which was stolen out of their mouths,” he said. “We have had to make it possible for the Italians to raise and use their local crops. We have had to help them cleanse their schools of fascist trappings….”

He outlined how Americans had anticipated the need to relieve the people starved by the fascists, and had made plans to ship food grown by the “magnificent ability and energy of the American people,” in ships they had constructed, over thousands of miles of water. Some of us may let our thoughts run to the financial cost of it,” he said, but “we hope that this relief will be an investment for the future, an investment that will pay dividends by eliminating fascism, by ending any Italian desires to start another war of aggression in the future….”

FDR was emphasizing the power of the people, of democracy, to combat fascism not only abroad but also at home, where it had attracted Americans frustrated by the seeming inability of democracy to counter the Depression. They longed for a single strong leader to fix everything. Other Americans, horrified by FDR’s use of the government to regulate business, provide a basic social safety net, and promote infrastructure, wanted to take the nation back to the 1920s and in so doing had begun to flirt with fascism as well.

As he celebrated the triumph over democracy in Italy, he was also urging Americans to value and protect it at home.

Biden, too, is focusing on how efficient his administration has been in combating the coronavirus to combat authoritarianism both abroad and at home. With its support for the Big Lie; congress members like Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ), who openly associates with white nationalists; and its attack on voting rights, the modern-day Republican Party is moving rapidly toward authoritarianism. But the former president botched the most fundamental task of government: protecting its people from death. In contrast, more than 60% of Americans approve of how Biden has managed the coronavirus pandemic, with 95% of Democrats approving but only 33% of Republicans in favor.

Biden’s approach appears to be helping to solidify support for democracy. A recent PBS Newshour/NPR/Marist poll showed that two thirds of Americans believe democracy is under threat, but 47%— the highest number in 12 years—believe the country is moving in the right direction. Unfortunately, that number, too, reflects a difference by party. While 87 percent of Democrats say the country is improving, 87 percent of Republicans say the opposite.

Biden conjured up our success over the coronavirus to celebrate democracy: “[H]istory tells us that when we stand together, when we unite in common cause, when we see ourselves not as Republicans or Democrats, but as Americans, then there’s simply no limit to what we can achieve.”
