Author's Note: If you've been here a while, then you'll know that earlier in the year, when the polls came out, I made a poll asking who from the Bad Batch y'all would want in my Sandwich Shop AU, and Tech had the most votes. So, ta-da! Took me half a year, but better late than never. Also, don't quote me on this, but I may write more for this AU. Also, if you know where the title is from, we can be friends. As always, please enjoy 💚
@clonexreaderbingo Square: Tech
Today begins like any other day for you as you get ready for your job on the naval base. The sky is crystal clear and the sea breeze coming off the coast is refreshing. You’ve been working at the sandwich shop on the naval base for two years now thanks to your friend Mira. You've known Mira since high school, and because she's the wife of a sailor, she lives on base. Her personal recommendation is what helped you get the job and you're forever grateful to her.
You love working on the naval base because you get to interact with all of the sailors. The sailors always have the best stories to tell. Whether it’s their last meal before setting out to sea or it’s their first meal back on dry land, you're always there to smile and laugh at what they say. Sometimes the men are lively and sometimes they're quiet. You can usually tell when something bad has happened while they were deployed, because the normally talkative ones say nothing.
While stopped at the security gate, as you wait for the officer to scan your ID, you can see a destroyer coming into port in the distance. With that class of vessel docking, you know it’s going to be a busy day at the sandwich shop, with lots of hungry sailors looking for good food and someone to tell their stories too. You quickly go through your mental checklist to ensure you properly restocked yesterday, then the officer returns your ID and lifts the gate for you to enter.
“Hey!” Mira calls with a wave and a bright smile as you enter the sandwich shop.
You smile and wave back. "Good morning!"
"Are you excited?" Mira asks as she playfully jabs her elbow into your side when you come around to the back of the deli line.
“For what?” you ask as you rub your side, then throw on your apron.
“Didn’t you hear?” Mira says.
“Hear what?” you ask.
“The Bad Batch are on that destroyer that came in this morning,” Mira answers with a giddy bobble of her head.
“No way!” you exclaim, but quickly hush yourself. “Really?”
“Yup,” Mira says with a pop of her lips on the last letter. “Top scuttlebutt says they’re returning from a super dangerous and top secret mission.”
“Woah,” you breathe. "Incredible."
The Bad Batch. An elite team of five navy SEALs that were pulled together as sole survivors from other teams across the navy. Each member of the Bad Batch has a unique skill set that allows their team to be practically unstoppable in the field. Which is why they are assigned the most difficult missions, because their success rate precedes them. They don’t even use their real names anymore, just the nicknames they've been given over their many years of service.
Hunter, their sergeant, is the only member of the team that began his career as a navy SEAL. He lost his original SEAL team during a special operation involving drug pirates off the gulf of some foreign country. According to sources, he was able to track down the pirates, complete the mission, and bring his dead men back to port for a proper burial. That's how he got the name, Hunter. He's a natural born leader, and there’s not an operation he won’t lead his men into.
Echo, their communications specialist, is a triple amputee and a former sonar technician on a submarine. His submarine was attacked while surfacing from a mission, which is when he lost his right arm and both legs. Unfortunately, the rest of the crew weren't so lucky. He spent a week in a coma, and his best friend he served with died in the bed next to him the day before he woke up. Sometimes you see him sitting by himself at the memorial with two open beers.
Wrecker, their demolition expert, was part of an explosive ordnance disposal unit before a fatal accident. It was supposed to be a routine defusal of a pipe bomb, but his partner misread one of the numbers on the detonator, leading him to cut the wrong wire. Wrecker noticed the mistake and tried to stop him, but it was too late. His partner didn't make it, and neither did the rest of the unit. Wrecker survived, but lost most of his hearing, and all of his vision, in his left ear and eye.
Crosshair, their weapons expert and sniper, wasn't in the navy, but was a scout sniper in the marine corps. The man was born with a cigarette in his mouth and a permanent scowl on his face, and not much is known about his time in the marine corp. However, according to the rumors, his scout sniper platoon was ambushed during a night operation in the tropics. They say he was stranded on one of the islands for thirty-two days before he was found and rescued.
Tech, their cyber intelligence specialist, was part of the cyber command group before he was reassigned to the Bad Batch. While it sounds like a desk job, he was actually involved in combat missions where he provided integrated cyberspace attacks in support of operational plans. Basically, cyber-warfare. Not much is known about what happened to his team, and there aren't many rumors or theories surrounding the circumstances either, so it remains a mystery.
"So," Mira begins with a sly grin, “are you finally going to ask him on a date?”
“Who?” you ask as you pull off the plastic wrap from the condiment containers.
“You know who,” Mira taps your arm. “The smart one with the glasses that you make googly-eyes at whenever he comes in.”
“Oh…” you pause. “That one.”
“Well?” Mira presses while waving a loaf of Italian bread around.
“I don’t know,” you sigh. “Maybe next time.”
“Maybe next time?” Mira scoffs. “Maybe next time? Girl, he could be dead next time!”
You rush to cover her mouth. “Shh! Don’t say that. It’s bad luck.”
Mira mumbles something you can't understand.
"What did you say?" you ask as you remove your hand.
"I said," Mira begins, "they don't need extra help in the bad luck department."
You roll your eyes and return to prepping the deli line for when the shop opens. While it's true that a lot of bad things have happened to the Bad Batch team, none of the members have died themselves. So, is it really the men who carry the bad luck? Or is it another force entirely? You push back the crazy thoughts, because in reality, you're not superstitious, even if Mira tries to convince you otherwise. Instead, you make your conjectures based on the facts in front of you.
One such fact being that the shop opens in ten minutes and there's already a line of hungry sailors outside the locked door waiting to get in. You and Mira exchange a high-five and put on your game faces to tackle the wave of hungry men. There's nothing quite like the midday rush between ten o'clock and two o'clock, but it's even worse when the ships come to port. You know after two o'clock you'll be able to take a well-earned break, but until then it is full-steam ahead.
Sailor after sailor pours into the sandwich shop once you unlock the door. Mira always mans the register and you make the sandwiches. When you first started working at the shop, it was a complete disaster trying to get in sync with each other. There was shouting, crashing into each other, and lettuce all over the floor. But now, the two of you work together like a well-oiled machine, dancing around each other behind the deli line, and communicating like a dream.
Your heart skips a beat when you see the Bad Batch walk into the sandwich shop. The quiet murmurs of the sailors stop for a moment as the SEAL team's stoic presence takes over the atmosphere. The Bad Batch have a big reputation around the base and they've garnered a lot of respect, even from the greenhorns. It's almost like having a few celebrities walk into the shop, but it doesn't last long and the sailors go back to munching and conversing with each other.
You choke down your nerves as they approach the counter and smile. "What can I get for you boys?"
"Large steak and cheese, toasted," Hunter says. "Extra peppers if you can."
"Sure thing," you answer as you make the sandwich. You quickly pop it into the toaster to melt the cheese, then wrap the sandwich in paper, and hand it to Hunter. "One large steak and cheese with extra peppers, warmed, and toasty."
"Thanks, kid," Hunter says before moving down the line to the register.
"Can I get a really large buffalo chicken with extra buffalo sauce?" Wrecker asks excitedly. "And I mean, lots of sauce, and ranch!"
"You got it," you chuckle, then make his sandwich, wrap it up, and hand it to him. "One really large buffalo chicken drowning in buffalo sauce and ranch."
"Aw, yeah!" Wrecker says as he grabs the sandwich. "Thanks a ton!"
You smile and look at your next customer, but he doesn't smile back.
"Large roast beef," Crosshair says. "Make sure the mayo is light and not a single onion touches it."
"Understood," you bristle at his tone, then quickly make his sandwich, wrap it, and hand it to him. "One large roast beef, with a squirt of mayo, and absolutely no onions."
"Finally," Crosshair says as he takes the sandwich. "Someone who can listen."
You let out the breath you were holding in and compose yourself to smile at your next customer.
"Large tuna, please," Echo says. "Extra mayo and no cheese or veggies, if that's alright."
"Not a problem," you answer, then make his sandwich, wrap it up, and hand it to him. "One large tuna, no cheese, no veggies, and extra mayo."
"Thank you, ma'am," Echo says with a nod as he grabs the sandwich and moves down to the register.
"A large cold cut combo, if you please," Tech says. "But I would prefer it if you hold the ham."
"Absolutely," you answer, then make his sandwich, wrap it up, and hand it to him. "One large cold cut combo, but hold my hand."
Tech reaches out to grab the sandwich. "I beg your pardon?"
You look up at him, confused as to what he means. "I'm sorry, did I forget something?"
"You requested that I hold your hand," Tech says. "Are you unwell?"
Your eyes grow wide and your face flushes with heat as you realize the slip of your tongue. "Oh," you stammer. "I'm sorry. I… uh… didn't mean to say… well… I just… um. Have a nice day."
Flustered and embarrassed beyond belief, you rush yourself off the deli line and into the back storage room.
Mira overhears your awkward exchange and waves Tech down to register with a smile. "I can ring you out over here, hon."
Meanwhile, in the storage room, you attempt to pull yourself together. You can't believe you made such a dumb mistake and said something so absentmindedly stupid to the one guy you like, and he's a navy SEAL for crying out loud. He must think you're an idiot, or worse. Although, you're not quite sure what could possibly be worse than being an idiot in front of a man who had perfect scores at the naval academy, but there must be something, and it makes you want to scream.
"Are you doing alright?" Mira asks as she leans against the doorframe to the storage room.
You sigh. "I'll be fine."
Mira walks over to you. "I think I can cheer you up."
"Doubt it," you answer while rubbing your hands against your face.
Mira smiles and pulls out a sticky note. "I got you a date with that smart guy you like."
You peek out through your fingers. "You what?"
"I set you up on a date with Tech," Mira repeats as she waves the sticky note around.
"How did–"
"Ah, ah," Mira stops you. "It's a secret. And by a secret, I mean I just asked him."
Your jaw drops as you throw her an incredulous look. Was it really that easy? All you had to do was ask? Seriously? You're shocked that Mira had the audacity to ask Tech to go on a date with you, but you're even more shocked that he actually said yes. You're not sure how to process this new information, or if you'll ever get your heart to beat normally again. All at once, feelings of excitement and panic intermingle in your stomach and you feel like you're going to be sick.
"Here are the details," Mira hands you the sticky note, a big grin still plastered on her face. "Don't be late."
You take the sticky note from her, and she goes back to the front to continue taking care of the customers. You look at what's written on the small piece of paper, and it's a time and place. The park bench at 1900 hours. You count backwards on your fingers to seven o'clock. Even though you've been working on the base for two years, you still haven't gotten used to military time. You look up at the clock on the wall and see it is two o'clock. At least you have time to get ready.
You spend the rest of your shift trying not to let your nerves get the better of you. You busy yourself with everything possible; to the point where you've swept the floor and wiped the counter ten times already. But you can't help it. You're excited and nervous about your date with Tech. You're not even sure if you know how to go on a date, considering it's been so long since you've been on one yourself. However, you have Mira to help you, so it won't be that bad.
Once your shift is over, the shop has been cleaned and the front door locked, Mira helps you get ready for your date. You explain to her how you feel nervous and how you're worried that you might say something wrong or he might think you're stupid. Mira just smiles and listens as you ramble on, offering the occasional encouragement here and there as she helps you put your hair up. Luckily, you wore some decent clothes today so you don't have to go home and change.
After you're ready, Mira gives you a big hug and a few words of advice. "Just be yourself and you'll be fine."
"Thanks," you say, then separate from the hug.
"Go get em'!" Mira shouts as you open the door to leave.
You turn around, smile, and wave goodbye. Mira knows that you'll call her as soon as the date is over to give her all of the juicy details, but you're happy she's here right now to cheer you on. You close the door to the shop behind you and take a deep breath of the evening air. It's still daylight, since it's summer, and because it's later in the day, you're not worried about sweating or becoming gross from the heat. Steeling yourself, you walk to the park to meet Tech for your date.
As you approach the specified meeting place, you see Tech sitting on one of the benches under a tree. Your heart flutters and your stomach flips as your nerves flare throughout your veins. You try your best to breathe through the anxiety, and you swallow back your fear as you approach him. He acknowledges your presence but doesn't say anything, and then you sit down next to him. You both sit in silence and you fidget with your fingers while trying to think of something to say.
"I–" you both start to say, then stop.
"You first," you both say again, then stop.
You giggle, which helps break the ice. "I've never been good at conversation."
"Neither have I," Tech admits. "However, your colleague was most pleasurable to speak with."
"Oh," you say. "Yeah, Mira is great."
"That is not to say that you also will not be pleasurable to speak with," Tech adds.
You pause for a second as you try to process his words. "Can you say that again, but slower?"
"My sincerest apologies," Tech says. "My military duties require precision of language and I will admit that I get carried away with my verbiage. However, my team finds my speech pattern to be complicated as well, so I would not feel disheartened by your lack of comprehension."
"Uh, thanks," you say. "I think."
"Perhaps I should begin again," Tech says as he reaches out his hand. "I am Tech and it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
You smile, shake his hand, and offer your name as well.
Your evening with Tech becomes more smooth as you continue chatting on the bench. Your conversation is filled with quirks from the both of you, as well as giggles from your side, and confused looks from Tech. However, it's nice chatting with someone like him. His speech skills really are incredible and it makes sense why he graduated top of his class at the naval academy. You find him endearing, and the way he gets passionate when he speaks makes you smile.
You carry on your conversation with him for as long as you can; until the sun sets and the lampposts in the park illuminate the walkways for the late night passerby. As much as you don't want to call it a night and leave, you can't help but stifle a small yawn. You try to hide it, but during your brief time with Tech, you've realized that not much goes unnoticed by him. Just thinking about it makes you yawn again, but this time not so subtly, and Tech takes note.
"Perhaps we should adjourn for the night," Tech says. "Your oral reflex and deep inhalation indicates that you are fatigued."
"My what?" you ask.
"You yawned," Tech explains.
"Oh," you chuckle. "I guess I am getting pretty tired. It was a long day at the shop."
"I concur," Tech says as he gets up from the bench. "I assume you will be at your employment establishment tomorrow as well?"
You get up from the bench and stretch your arms over your head. "You would assume correctly."
"Through the power of deduction, will you also be available after you have concluded your assigned duties at said establishment?" Tech asks.
You smile. "Why, yes. That will be the case."
"Then I would like to formally invite you to participate in another mutual discussion tomorrow," Tech says.
"I accept," you answer. "Same time, same place?"
"Indubitably," Tech answers.
"Does that mean yes?" you ask, not understanding the word.
"Without a doubt," Tech explains.
You smile. "Good night, Tech."
"Good night," Tech says. "Pleasantest of endogenous sensory experiences."
You snort and decide to look that one up when you get home, but only after you call Mira and tell her about the wonderful time you had with Tech, as well as the prospect of seeing him again tomorrow. Although, you highly doubt you'll be able to sleep tonight, since your body feels too giddy and excited to calm down and relax. Mira was right. Life is too short to put off doing things you're scared of, because tomorrow is not promised to anyone, and today is all you may have.

Not to be opinionated and leaning towards anti-establishment when it comes to politics but me and a buddy of mine irl who I converse to regarding true crime info since he's also well-versed, conversed regarding Timothy McVeigh and there were some interesting remarks both him and I shared.
The question came up: was Tim really a white supremacist or did he only associate with them due to shared anti-government sentiments?
Both of us honestly think he was the latter. In a series of letters he sent to his friend, Bob Popovich, one of his last letters written from death row on May 3, 2001 highlighted his sentiments and motives regarding bombing the Murrah Building, mentioning that it was primarily motivated by his perception of escalating federal aggression He saw the government's actions in raids like Waco and Ruby Ridge as incidents increasing militarization and violence by federal agencies, and with these, the government was using military tactics against its citizens. So, by targeting a federal building, he aimed to retaliate and send a message preemptively addressing widespread government abuses.
The bombing was also driven by his frustration with the failures of non-violent approaches to address these abuses and hold federal agents accountable. He thought legal and political systems still didn't address government misconduct, so the violence was necessary to make a statement. The bombing was like a strategic response to a government he saw as corrupt and increasingly hostile.
Also, In Ted's thoughts on Tim, he wrote:
“McVeigh is considered to belong to the far right, and for that reason some people apparently assume that he has racist tendencies. But I saw no indication of this. On the contrary, he was on very friendly terms with the African-American inmates here and I never heard him make any remark that could have been considered even remotely racist. I do recall his mentioning that prior to the Gulf War, he and other soldiers were subjected to propaganda designed to make them hate the people they were going to fight, but when he arrived in the Persian Gulf area he discovered that the “enemies” he was supposed to kill were human beings just like himself, and he learned to respect their culture.”
McVeigh also shared his views with Ted that the American far right has two branches: the fascist/racist one and the non-racist, individualistic, and “freedom-loving” one—which I believe he's referring to himself with the latter part which is why he tried to make this distinction.
McVeigh being racist however still may hold significant truth to it because he was full of secrecy and with the confidence and charisma he held when talking to others, I believe that lying could still be well involved in the equation. In addition to this, unsure if it's a change of setting or a sort of propaganda during the time of the bombings, but allegedly during his time in the military, McVeigh was known to give and assign undesirable jobs to black service members.
Despite everything, it's still clear that he's truly anti-establishment and wanted most of the damage to be directed to the federal government more than anything. It's quite unfortunate because he did make agreeable points. Yes, the government is bad and it wants to control you. You know, the 1984 quote:
“WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.”
It's an ironic propaganda that people were taught to force a mindset of ignorance so that they'll be under the government's ease and control—which is dystopianly realistic.
McVeigh didn't have to resort to such great lengths and drastic measures to blow up a whole damn building with so many innocent onlookers. Truly, it's stupid. With the particular fact that he ironically called the whole situation “tragic” when he went on an interview for 60-Minutes. Buddy of course it is but YOU did it.
I don't think it mattered to him when he had some sort of grimm mentality of sacrificing “a few" lives to spare a whole lot more from this said oppression. What's even sadder is that it still didn't truly work. Many people are still sheep that are chained to do the government's biddings, sometimes only for the purpose of inflating their already gigantic and vain egos, because that is what was embedded within their values. Die for the country thay country never dies for you but kills you
and that's the tragedy—the event wasn't inevitable and could've been prevented but nothing is more real than committing a thing so drastic because no one will care until something happens that will permanently change the course of everything, even for the worse. Nobody listens until someone dies, but with so many dead, why feel the need to listen at all?
The government fucking sucks, and it will always suck because people in power are only bound to stay in power if they abuse because power means to take control. It's good that people are slowly exercising their rights, but consider places around the world that don't have the privilege to be as woke as America, especially non-first world countries. Funny to say that because their ignorance is a privilege to their respective governments.
There are many negative things that take place when the people allow their government to extort power for total control. The totalitarian regime of manipulating innocent minds into conceptualizing anything they please, so
anyhow, I just basically described to you the concepts in George Orwell's book, 1984. That book is amazing and you should go and check it out because kinda reminds me of Tim McVeigh's ideologies.

ink demonth day 17th : sailor
tw : mentions of uss indianapolis, ww2 and mention of the shark attacks on the uss indiapolis survivors.
march 8th 1942 the us had entered ww2 a few months ago after the bombing of pearl harbor henry was skimming through the mail he grabbed a letter and opened it,
it was a letter from the us navy.
Henry read carefully for a moment before he realized what the letter was. He had been drafted into the Navy. His stomach dropped to the floor as he read the words. Join the US Navy today!
"I'm being sent to war..." he whispered to himself as he sat down at their kitchen table, letter still in his hands, staring at it blankly. Linda walked in to see him. "What's wrong Henry?" She asked.
henry spoke quietly, his voice betraying his
feelings. "The Navy's drafted me." He muttered, looking back down at the letter.
Henry put the letter down with a shaky breath. "They want me to report at the base tomorrow morning.." he said.
-the next morning, henry put on his navy sailor uniform that was sent to him through the mail, he
Henry packed a small bag and, after giving a final hug and kiss to Linda.
he spoke lovingly.
" i'lll be back as soon as i could....i love you very much...."
linda looked up holding back tears.
" i love you too sweetie... i'll be here waiting for you " linda said.
henry soon got on
headed to the base, leaving her at home.
He had to do his duty, even if that did mean fighting in a deadly war .
Henry reported to the base and soon began his training. He learned how to use and maintain equipment, how to respond quickly to orders and various other things that came with the job. He began to bond with the other navy men around him as he went through the training.
soon Henry was assigned to the USS Indianapolis, a heavy cruiser with a great reputation for her service. He was sent to this ship with many of the men who went through training with him.
linda would work in a factory during ww2 to not only help with the war effort but help pay the bills, henry would write to linda as much as he could
Henry would sit and write in his bunk, on his bed with other sleeping men around him. He would write letters to Linda almost every night, telling her of what had happened each day and how much he missed her and hoped to return to her soon.
he would list the many battles and missions the Indianapolis had been in, detailing all the events that went on. He explained how he and his comrades had formed a strong bond and looked after one another, and just how difficult the battles could be.
soon on july 16th 1945, the USS Indianapolis and Henry we’re on a vital mission. They were transporting an important element for the construction of an atomic bomb, which would be used later in the war
The whole ship’s crew was on high alert, the job was extremely important and there could be no mistakes. it was carrying cargo and This cargo was a classified secret, as the atomic bomb had not been announced and used at that point. The Indianapolis would travel to Leyte Gulf and begin preparing to deliver the cargo, unknown to the crew of the Indianapolis as to what exactly the cargo was.
-Once arriving at Leyte Gulf, the crew spent most of the time working on and off the ship to make any last minute preparations to deliver the important cargo, with many not understanding the true importance of this specific cargo.
-By the time August was already a few days underway,
but then... Linda had not received a letter since july 27 . This worried her, but she could only hope that he was fine and that he had been unable to find any time to write.
By the time the 15th of August rolled around, she had not received any letters from Henry, and would read the news paper and learn of the Indianapolis's sinking, her eyes widening in horror.
she soon got a letter,
Linda's heart skipped a beat as she read the letter. Henry had survived, but was badly injured, with several issues that he was being treated for. She was thankful for the fact that he was alive, but at the same time worried about the severity of his injuries.
henry was hospitilized at the
Naval Base Hospital No. 20 in Peleliu,
henry had suffered deyhydration, salt water poisoning, starvation and inffected wounds, and shark bites, The letters described the struggles that Henry faced, including the many times that he'd nearly been killed by the sharks that attacked him. He had tried to fight back, punching and kicking at the sharks' gills to try and get them to release him, but he had suffered many injuries in the process, though he still managed to survive.
-Henry spent 11 days in the hospital, being fed and given fluids to help with his dehydration. His wounds from the sharks' bites and the sharp metal pieces that had injured him were cleaned and bandaged, and he was given medical care to help him recover properly.
once he was declared well enough, Henry was discharged from the hospital and the Navy. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and for his efforts in saving the other sailors from the sharks' attacks.
With his time in the Navy now over, Henry finally returned home to Linda.
but Henry found himself suffering from the effects of the ship being torpedoed, the ship sinking and the five days spent floating in the shark-infested water. the shark attacks He was plagued with PTSD, trauma, and many other issues from the incident.
Henry's experiences had left him with numerous phobias, including a fear of sharks galeophobia, a fear of deep bodies of water thalassophobia and a fear of explosions ekrixiphobia, He also developed a fear of loud noises phonophobia as well, The memories and the sounds of the other sailors screaming, thrashing in the water and being pulled under by the sharks were seared into Henry's mind. The image of the torn and bloodstained life jacket bubbling to the surface remained a vivid reminder of the horrors he had endured. -Due to his phobia of sharks, Henry found it very difficult to visit aquariums, especially those with large shark exhibits. The sight of a shark would trigger strong negative reactions and memories of the traumatic experience he had endured.
Linda would comfort Henry whenever he struggled with the memories and phobias that his experience had left him with. She would do what she could to calm him down and make him feel relaxed and at ease, helping him cope with the traumatic memories that still plagued him.
In January of 1949, Linda discovered that she was pregnant with their first child. The news brought joy and excitement to the couple, who had been looking forward to starting a family together, soon in october of that year their only daughter, jacqueline was born, which brought joy and happiness to both of them especially henry, Henry saw his wife and newborn daughter as a source of comfort and healing from the trauma he had endured. The sight of his family and the love they shared helped to soothe his memories and fears, reminding him of the good things in life and giving him a reason to keep moving forward.

------------------------
Cordell looked up at the ship and felt a twist in his gut that he shouldn’t have felt until they were on the open ocean. He’s not sure how Geri talked him into this cruise, but it was way too late to back out now.
He should’ve faked being sick this morning.
“Come on, Cordi! They’re boarding in 10 minutes!”
Cordell took a deep breath and grabbed their suitcases. “You sure these tickets are non-refundable?”
Geri sighed. “Cordi, you promised.”
“I know, I know but-”
“I know cruises aren’t exactly your thing but your parents paid for this and it’s our anniversary and-”
“I know, I know.” Cordell kissed her. “I just- Water’s not my thing. I mean I can swim but the last time I was on a boat was during Marine’s training and I’m lucky my captains never saw me hurl afterwards.”
Geri chuckled. “Well, this isn’t exactly Marines training. And this cruise is perfectly safe. They have safety standards to meet and all the staff are trained for emergencies. And it’s only for two weeks. We’ll be fine, I promise.”
Cordell huffed. “You know that’s the line they give before everything bad that happens in those natural disaster movies, right?”
“Oh my god-”
“I’m kidding, I’m kidding.” He kissed her again. “Happy anniversary. Let’s get boarded. You have all the paperwork, right?”
“If you got the bags,” she teased.
“Ah, the real reason you married me: free manual labor.”
Geri laughed. “I don’t know if I’d call you ‘free’. I mean, the amount you eat alone….”
“Hey, I’m a growing boy!”
“Last I checked, you were fully grown 20 years ago.”
“I- We don’t know that for sure!” He smiled and followed Geri’s laughter up to the pier.
He could handle a one week tour. If not for his own sense of adventure, he could do it for his wife.
—------------------
“We’re still looking out for a possible hurricane forming at the base of the Gulf of Mexico. No formal warnings have been put in place but we caution anyone going into these waters to stay alert. If you have any concerns, stay out of the water and warn your neighbors to do the same.”
“Still listening to those weather reports, Cassie?”
She looked up at her supervisor. “Weather kind of impacts our job, Brenda. And they’re saying this hurricane could be a big deal.”
Brenda sighed. “If it was that big of a deal, they’d issue a warning. Which they haven’t. So, until they do, we have jobs to do. And for you, that means corralling lost passengers.”
Cassie rolled her eyes but put on her big “I Can Help!” badge, picked up her map, and went to her assigned hallways. She was technically part of the event coordinating team but before the opening receptions, getting passengers to their assigned cabins was an all-hands-on-deck situation. The last thing they needed was a kid getting lost in the engine block or a very good actor getting themselves a free room.
Clearing her assigned hallways was easier than she ever could have hoped. It was a couples cruise, mostly full of elderly couples who had been on a cruise before (some of them she even recognized) with a few newbies who were still pretty capable of using a map. The most she had to do was help reorient a few of the newer ones and carry the bags for one particularly sweet pair of ladies who reminded her of her abuela.
After the crowd died down, she waited for a bit to catch any stragglers. They wouldn’t want to start any of the introductory talks or safety presentations until all the passengers were settled and they were on a very strict timetable. She could waste 10 minutes now to safe someone's life later.
On her final sweep, she passed by some annoyed voices from the stairwell. Just as she’d feared.
“Hey!” she said as she opened the door to the stairs, smile still firmly in place. “Can I help you with anything?”
The couple quit arguing and turned to her. The man looked a little annoyed (and a tad green around the gills) but his partner gave her a friendly smile. “Hi,” she said. “I think we’re a little lost but my husband is allergic to asking for assistance.”
“Well, that’s what I’m here for,” Cassie assured her. “Where are you trying to get to?”
“We’re trying to find our cabin, Room 234C.” She showed Cassie their tickets.
She nodded. “Alright. Well, you’re on the right track. 234C is on the level above us. Just take a left out of the stairwell and it should be a few doors down on the right.”
“I told you,” the man muttered.
The woman glared at him then smiled at Cassie again. “Thank you so much. What was your name?”
“Oh, I’m Cassie.” She could only hope they were asking for “glowing review” reasons.
“Well, thank you Cassie. I’m Geri and this is my husband, Cordell. I’m sure we’ll probably run into each other again; he’s terrible with directions.”
Cordell gave her a tight smile. “Yes, thank you. We’ve gotta get to our room now so we can get to that safety presentation. Especially with that storm brewing….”
Geri sighed. “Cordi, I told you, we’ll be fine. I’m sure they’ve taken all that into account, right Cassie?”
Cassie nodded. “We’re closely following all the safety recommendations from the weather authorities,” she said in her best customer service voice. “And attending the safety presentations will certainly help decrease the risk of injury, so please get settled in your room as quickly as possible.”
“That sounds great. Thank you.” Geri smiled and the couple started heading up the stairs, their shoes pounding on the metal staircase.
Cassie kept her smile up until they were out of sight and sighed. She checked her watch and decided it was safe to head back to her office. She had to get ready for the presentation too.
—----------------
Cordell thought he should get extra Husband Points for agreeing to eat more than cheese and crackers on this floating death trap. His stomach felt unsettled since the minute he walked on board and it hadn’t gotten better since they left port. If anything, it got worse.
He knew it should be impossible to feel the movement of the ocean on a ship this big, but he swore he could feel every dip and swell of the waves as they hit the ship. It took everything in him to walk in a straight line, and his relationship with solid food was on a steep decline.
He was trying to make this fun for Geri. He really was. But it was hard to enjoy dinner when all he wanted to do was curl up around the toilet.
Surely this would earn him the right to pick their next anniversary vacation.
“Are you feeling okay, Cordi?”
Cordell shook himself out of his thoughts and smiled. Or, at least, he tried to. “I’m fine, babe.”
Geri frowned. “Are you sure? You’ve barely touched your steak.”
Cordell looked down at his plate and his stomach curled again. He’d ordered the steak because it was familiar. But by the time it got to their table he was starting to feel sick again and he knew from experience it wouldn’t taste nearly as good coming back up.
But he didn’t want to bring her down with that. So he smiled and said “I guess I wasn’t in the mood for steak after all.”
“Oh. Do you want to order something else or-”
The boat lurched suddenly and Cordell felt the remains of his lunch start to make a reappearance. “Uh, you know what? I gotta hit the restroom but why don’t you order me something new and I’ll try it when I get back.”
“Cordi, wha-”
“Thanks, Ger! You’re the best.” He quickly got up and left the dining room, barely missing colliding with a staff member on his way out.
As much as he intended to find a bathroom, his lunch was not being patient and the balcony was very welcoming. Without thinking much further, he ran over and leaned far over the edge, heaving as what little food was in him rushed out.
Panting, he stayed leaning over the edge, trying to get as much bile out as possible before he returned to dinner.
Why the hell had he agreed to this cruise?
“Sir? Can I help?”
Slowly, he stood up and looked over at the woman standing next to him. He squinted at her, trying to recognize her. He recognized the voice, and she looked familiar, even in the dim light.
“You- You’re the lady that helped us find the cabin. Kammie?”
She smiled. “Cassie. Do you need help?”
“Uh, a little….”
She held her hands out. “Let me see your wrists?”
Skeptical, he leaned his lip against the railing to keep him upright and presented his wrists. He watched as she aligned her fingers at the center of his wrists, right under the crease, and pressed hard.
In a few seconds, the nausea passed and he felt less dizzy. “How….?”
She winked at him. “Old trick I learned in my early days. Wait here a sec.”
She darted back inside the dining area and came back with a glass of fizzy water and a handful of crackers. “Nibble on these and drink the seltzer. It should settle your stomach a bit.”
He muttered a thanks and followed her directions. “I think if I knew I had seasickness I would’ve tried harder to pass on this vacation,” he murmured.
She shrugged. “Well, you live and learn. The good news is, you’ll only feel it for a few days. Once your body gets used to it, you’ll be fine. Well, aside from shaky legs on land but that’ll fade too.”
He grunted. “Yeah, sounds great. Thank you for this, really.”
“Hey, it’s just part of the job. Here.” She opened a tin of breath mints for him. “Take a couple of these. And maybe recommend to your wife that you guys hang out around the deck more until you get used to things at sea. Fresh air and being able to keep your eye on the horizon helps.”
He smiled. “I’ll try that. Thanks.”
“No problem. Let me know if you need anything else. I’m an events coordinator so I’m pretty much always around.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.”
She smiled and walked away, presumably to handle some kind of event coordinator stuff. Cordell sighed and started sucking on the breath mints. He had a couple minutes before Geri would start to worry about him, but knowing her she probably already picked up on his seasickness and was gearing up to lecture him for keeping secrets for her sake. It was an argument they’d had before and one they would probably have again.
Thank God she loved him.
—-------------
Cassie was woken up by a blaring alarm. She groaned and sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. It was only their third day on the water; what could possibly be going wrong this early in?
She hoped it was a drill she’d forgotten about. She really, really hoped so.
But she couldn’t assume that, so she grabbed her high-vis jacket, her megaphone, and her walkie and rushed out of her room.
The minute she stepped in water, she knew it wasn’t a drill. Something was definitely wrong.
“Brenda, what’s going on?” she called into the walkie.
“That damn storm is what’s going on!” Brenda shrieked. “Out of nowhere it headed right for us! Help us get people into the lifeboats!”
“Lifeboats? In a storm we should-”
“Take people below, I know, but we’ve been hit with some kind of debris and the boys downstairs say we’re taking on water. Lifeboats aren’t our safest option but until someone can get out here they’re our best option. Now get out here!”
Cassie ran for the upper deck, splashing water slowly climbing higher up her legs. She ran into a few other passengers on her way and urged them to head toward the lifeboats.
“Cassie, what’s going on?”
She whirled around and saw her favorite passengers. “Cordell, Geri, it’s a long story but you need to get to the lifeboats. We got hit by that storm out of nowhere and we’re taking on water. We’re waiting on help but there’s not much time for us to get off.”
Geri gulped but nodded and Cordell gripped her arm. “Ger, come on. We gotta go.”
“I know, I know. I’m sor-”
“Don’t apologize. Let’s just go.”
Cassie directed them and took her time guiding other passengers before she made her way to the top deck. The passengers came first, especially when some of them had trouble moving.
By the time she made it up there, there was a scary amount of water washing up on the deck. It took everything she had to keep upright. She joined the line to help load people into the boats, but with the storm picking up it was getting harder to keep things moving calmly.
As she was helping load the last of the passengers, the boat tipped badly and a wave came over the deck.
It was just enough to make her lose her footing and send her over the railing.
—-------------
Cordell woke up to the sun on his face and sand under his back. He tried to remember when he fell asleep on the beach; surely Geri would’ve woken him up so that they could get back to the cruise ship on time.
The cruise ship…..
His eyes snapped open as memories of the day before flooded in. He sat up, frantically looking around. “Geri!” he called- or at least, he tried to. His voice was hoarse, probably from a mix of saltwater and dehydration. “Geri!” he tried again, before getting to his feet.
He scanned the beach around him. The lifeboat they’d used was about five feet away from him. On shaky legs, he walked over to it, and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Geri inside. “Geri….” he knelt beside the boat and tried to shake her away. “Geri, please…..”
Thankfully, her face scrunched and she groaned awake. “Cordi? Wha- What happened?”
“We got hit by that storm,” he reminded her. “I-I don’t know where we are now but I think we’re stuck for a while.”
Geri nodded, then groaned again as she tried to sit up. “I- Is it just us here?”
He shrugged. “I didn’t see anyone else, but I just woke up.” He knew there were more people in their lifeboat but there were no people or footprints anywhere.
Geri slumped. “Damn. Okay. Well…. Now what?”
Cordell shrugged. “Find water and shelter if we can. Then think about finding help.”
Geri nodded and reached for him. “Sounds… sounds like a plan.”

interesting point that came up in the wiki discord the other day; spades slick had a few hundred years wandering the desert of post apocalypse alternia to mellow out, which easily explains the gulf between his personality and that of "bec" noir, who started off as exactly the same person but has only been around for 3 years and a day.
server member DebonairMalchick makes a good observation:
i love how this is an unintentional echo of caliborn lol. bec noir is a toddler who is hellbent on destroying everything for destructions sake and was given cosmic power before he could grow out of that and then you see slick and he's a pillar of the community! to the extent of literally having created it!
but now I'm not so sure that similarity is strictly unintentional, given that caliborn himself is assigned the job of wandering the post-apocalyptic earth for a while and forced to be someone's exile at the end of it all.
like the dead sessions is throwing everything it can at the prospective lord of time in the hopes of tempering the conqueror that comes out the other side

~~~START~~~
Sophie Lafferty was a mousy woman, awkward in the extreme, and was prone to bouts of eccentricity, but despite all that, she had a reputation for being a hard worker. Usually, during this point of the summer, she’d be off on vacation with her family for two weeks, but this year both of her parents were sick, so the vacation had been pushed to August.
Sophie worked a desk job in the legal department of the MAA, the work could be boring at times, and most of what she did was research assigned to her by the higher ups about some historic building that a supervillain had blown a hole through, or the insurance policy on a billionaire’s skyscraper that had mysteriously been damaged in a fight that happened twelve blocks away, or a similar case to the one they were working that had happened ten years ago on the other side of the country. One day, Sophie thought, she’d be one of those higher ups, maybe even appearing as a counselor in a court case or two. But that wouldn’t be for a long time yet, for now, she would have to content herself with following the paper trail of one Logan Crofter until he mysteriously dropped off the face of the earth six years ago to see if there was any hint of where he’d gone.
It was the kind of project that could catapult her career if she did find something, but unfortunately for Sophie Lafferty, she was currently on a cruise to the Bahamas with her family — including her parents, who weren’t any kind of sick except, perhaps, seasick — while someone who looked a lot like Sophie, and talked a lot like Sophie told her bosses that her vacation had been postponed while thoroughly bungling their research on Prof. Crofter.
Usually, Janus’s impersonation act didn’t last long — a couple hours to kidnap a politician, a day to infiltrate a shitty business — but this was a deeper operation than usual. In two weeks, Sophie would be back and the jig would be up, so they would need to get all the information on where Virgil was being kept, what kind of security was in place, and when the best time to act would be and stage a rescue before the MAA knew there’d been a security breach. No pressure.
“Morning, Soph!” A security guard said, stopping next to Sophie’s desk for a moment. Sophie and Lee were very friendly, a fact that was both an asset and a hindrance to Janus — on the one hand, Lee had a greater chance of noticing something was off with Sophie, but on the other hand, Janus might have use for a security guard later, depending on how things shook out.
“Hi Lee.” The voice modulator itched against Janus’s neck, but they resisted the urge to fiddle with it.
“Sorry to hear about your vacation.”
“It’s okay, I wouldn’t want to go without my parents anyway. Besides, we’ll go in August. What about you, any big summer plans?” Janus couldn’t force themself to smile even if they tried, but that hardly mattered to the illusion — Sophie’s lips curled upwards in the expression of a person who honestly cared what this man did with his life.
“Nah, I’m more of a winter sports guy,” Lee grinned as though that were in any way impressive.
“Oh.” It was, based on Janus’s observations, usually around this point in a conversation that Sophie ran out of things to say, so they said nothing.
Lee stood there for a moment, marinating in the awkward silence before clearing his throat. “Well, I should be going now.”
“Yeah.” Please leave.
“Bye Soph.”
“Yeah.”
Janus resisted the urge to gag as Lee walked away, there were other people in the office who might hear if they did, even if their actual face was hidden.
Turning back to their work, Janus found an article about a boat that sank in the Gulf of Mexico two weeks after Logan dropped off the radar, everyone on board had drowned. They added it to the research on Prof. Crofter they were assembling, they were amusing themself by reimagining Logan as more of the Walter White type, maybe he’d drowned while smuggling drugs — Logan would hate this interpretation (for many reasons, not the least of which being how close to the truth it was) but it was exactly the kind of thing that would fuzz the radar while still looking like Janus was actually working.
A small usb drive sat innocently plugged into the computer, scanning away for the kind of security and monitoring there was on Sophie’s desktop before Janus started with their actual work.
Their day was long and boring. They stole Jared’s lunch just to amuse themself — he almost had a full-blown temper-tantrum when he opened the fridge to find his tupperware full of bland chicken missing. Lilie from accounting spent almost an hour monologuing at them about… something, honestly Janus hadn’t been paying attention. And at the end of the day, everyone gathered in the break room to celebrate Jason’s birthday — it took everything they had not to burst out laughing when they realized.
Finally, as they were gathering their stuff to leave for the day, their hacker drive finished its work. They would need to wait until they got home to see what kind of security they were working with, but at least that meant they could get started first thing tomorrow — plus, they had already outlined most of the details in their Crofter-equals-drug-smuggler “theory”, so they should be good for the next week or so as far as Sophie’s work went.
They drove Sophie’s car back to Sophie’s building where they parked in Sophie’s parking spot and walked up to Sophie's apartment. Her lights had been set on a timer to make it look like she was spending the night there, but as soon as Janus entered, they left again, this time hiding themself from sight completely. They walked down the block to where their own car was parked, and then proceeded to drive back to their actual home.
What they should do was go straight upstairs to Logan so they could go over the MAA system’s security, but instead what they did was detour to what was formerly Roman’s apartment before they moving in with his sister and was now, after a couple reconfigurations of the housing arrangements, the — hopefully temporary — apartment of Thomas and Nico Sanders-Flores and their grandson Patton.
Janus knocked politely, and after a moment, Nico answered the door. It was always awkward to spend time with Thomas and Nico — seeing how Janus had kidnapped them and all — but they were Virgil’s parents, and Patton’s grandparents, and Janus would just have to work through the awkwardness.
“Oh, hi Janus,” Nico gave them a strained smile, which Janus returned in kind.
Before they could say their own polite greeting, however, the smoke alarm began to sound.
“Thomas Sanders!” Nico turned and yelled into the apartment. He walked away from the door, leaving it open, so Janus took that as an invitation. “I turned my back on you for less than a second! How did you burn something already?”
Janus followed Nico to the kitchen where they found Thomas desperately fanning an inflamed pan in a futile attempt at putting it out.
“I don’t know!” Thomas cried as Nico got the fire extinguisher out from under the sink and put out the fire.
“I can see where Virgil got his kitchen skills from,” Janus commented dryly. To Janus’s surprise, Thomas actually laughed at that.
Nico shook his head in exasperation. “I’ve been trying so hard to teach either of them how to make anything. It might just be impossible.”
“It’s not so bad,” Janus pointed out. “Virgil’s been getting the hang of it.”
“Really?” Nico asked, looking excited for all of one second before it was replaced with a look of intense sadness. “I guess… I guess it’s been a while since we’ve seen him.”
Janus cursed themself internally; their score was currently Janus: 1, awkwardness: 1.
“Uh, where’s Patton?” They asked, knowing that at least Patton didn’t mind when they were awkward.
Thomas frowned and Nico turned away from them entirely.
“He’s in the living room,” Thomas explained. “Today hasn’t been a good day.”
“Oh.” Janus: 1, awkwardness: 2. “I’ll, um…” Janus pointed towards the living room, then walked away.
Awkwardness: 3.
Patton was curled in a ball on the floor in front of the couch, The Princess and the Frog was playing on the TV, but Patton didn’t seem to notice.
“Hey, Pat,” Janus said softly, taking a seat next to the kid and attempting to put their hand on his back. Their hand sank through him as they realized what Thomas meant by it not being a good day. “How are you feeling today?”
The question wasn’t necessary, even if the intangibility didn’t give him away, Patton projected when he had strong emotions, and the sadness rolling off him reminded Janus of themself at their mama’s funeral.
Patton didn’t answer, or even look at them, so Janus contented themself with quietly sitting beside him.
After several minutes and a song about what the main characters would do once they were human, Patton spoke up, quietly. “Mommy, will you tell me a story?”
Janus startled, but any thought of correcting the boy went out the window when they found Patton staring at them with big, watery eyes.
“Of course, dear,” Janus said instead, tamping down any trace of panic. “How about the story of when I met your daddy?”
Patton nodded eagerly, so Janus launched into the story.
“It was probably about six or seven years ago — before you were born — and I was a law student. Frankie hadn’t joined the business yet, but he had been selling black market gadgets for a few years and had already decided to take me under his wing, so to speak — he likes to think he was my mentor because he was a criminal first, but I was a supervillain first, so it’s really six of one, half dozen of the other.
“Now, in one of my classes we had recently discussed a situation that had been in the news about the chief of police. I felt that the chief was getting away with some nasty stuff with no repercussions, so I decided to… scare him a little bit — it’s not like I was really going to drop him off that building.” It suddenly occurred to Janus that this might not be the best story for a five-year-old, but Patton looked enraptured, so they continued.
“I had just gotten him to make a blubbery confession for my camera when we were interrupted. Your dad was dressed like a grade A dork, horns greener than you can believe–”
“Daddy doesn’t have horns,” Patton frowned, leaning his whole weight into Janus’s arm.
“It’s an expression, kiddo, what I mean was, he was new to the business and it was obvious. Now, he ordered me to ‘let that poor man go!’ and I was tempted to follow his order to the letter, but turning the chief into a martyr wasn’t on my agenda at that time, so I brought him back on the roof and let him flop like a fish.
“‘Poor?’ I said. ‘No, not yet he’s not.’ Your dad didn’t like that. He was cute, all angry and just, I just couldn’t stop myself from flirting. Most heroes, once someone as fruity as me starts flirting with them, go from cute-angry to bigot-angry pretty quickly, but Virgil just got more flustered.
“I may have gotten a little too in to flirting with him, and he nearly managed to catch me when he make some bright starburst in front of my eyes, causing me to see spots, but I’d had years of experience to fall back on, and I knew when it was time to cut and run. The chief wasn’t in any position to catch me — he was still experiencing adverse effects to altitude — so I made a mental illusion of myself in your dad’s mind and had it fly away, mostly to test whether or not your dad could fly.”
“He can’t,” Patton said.
“No,” Janus agreed. “He can’t, so he stooped down to help the chief while I waltzed away at my leisure — that trick never worked on him again, by the way.”
“Hey guys,” Thomas interrupted gently. “Dinner’s ready.”
“Okay,” Patton stood, sadness no longer leaking from his pores. “Thanks, mommy.”
He wrapped his little arms around his neck before running off to collide with his grandpa’s legs.
“Pop pop?” Patton asked as Thomas lifted him into his arms. “Can we have cookies after dinner?”
“Sure kiddo,” Thomas smiled. “Whatever you want.”
Thomas smiled at Janus before turning to carry Patton to the table, and Janus felt a little bit of tension leak from them. Janus: 2, awkwardness: 3.
Y’know that awkwardness when you’re meeting your significant other’s parents after you kidnapped them because your significant other has been kidnapped, and also your significant other’s child has spontaneously begun referring to you as their parent?
John McArthur was born on November 17th 1826 in Erskine.
McArthur, learnt his fathers trade as a blacksmith. He emigrated to America at the age of twenty-three and settled in Chicago. There he became a manager and owner in a Chicago Iron Works and at the start of the American Civil War, became a Captain of a militia company who became known as Chicago Highland Guards due to the Highland Bunnet’s most of the soldiers wore.
In May of 1861, he became colonel of the 12th Illinois Infantry. He fought in engagements and battles in places including Fort Henry and Fort Donelson. Promoted to brigadier general on March 21, 1862; he took part in the Battle of Shiloh, in which he was wounded. As divisional commander, he led troops at Iuka, Corinth and in the Vicksburg Campaign and Siege.
He was brevetted a major general for his service in the Battle of Nashville, and was assigned to the Army of the Gulf for the rest of the war. I must admit I have seen the word brevet many times, and knew hit was a military term, so just looked it up for the first time, it means a warrant giving to a commissioned officer a higher rank title as a reward for gallantry or meritorious conduct but may not confer the authority, it often meant they didn’t get the pay rise that usually came with the job.
McArthur left the military in August 1865, and returned to his iron business. It did poorly, and his position as Chicago public works commissioner ended after the Chicago fire of 1871.
He may not be the most famous general but they thought enough of him to put a bust of him in Vicksburg National Military Park
He was postmaster of Chicago, but was found culpable for losing $73,000 of postal funds in a bank failure. After retiring, McArthur died in Chicago, on May 15th, 1906 aged 79, a good auld age!
Top Gun OC list pt. 2
Joseph "Shadow" Cordon
Name: Joseph Cordon
Age: 40
Height: 6'3
Sexuality: Bisexual
Joseph Cordon was born and raised in a family of pilots. His father was a Navy pilot who flew in the Gulf War, and his mother was an aerobatic pilot who competed in world championships. Growing up, Joseph was fascinated by planes and piloting, spending most of his childhood with his parents at air shows and airports. As soon as he was of age, Joseph enrolled in the Naval Academy, where he demonstrated natural talent and an unrelenting work ethic that quickly put him ahead of his peers. After graduation, he trained as a fighter pilot and was soon given command of his own squadron.
As Joseph climbed the ranks, his reputation as a skilled pilot and effective leader grew, and when the Navy's Top Gun school was reopened after many years, Joseph was handpicked to join the elite institution as an instructor. At Top Gun, Joseph excelled in his role, combining his deep knowledge of aviation with his innate ability to lead and motivate his students. He quickly became one of the most respected instructors there, with many of his trainees transitioning into successful careers as fighter pilots thanks to his guidance.When the opportunity arose to be a Captain Pilot, Joseph knew he was ready for the role. His skill level, passion,and dedication had all culminated in his dream of becoming a Captain Pilot. After additional training, Joseph was assigned to lead an F-18 Hornet squadron aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Throughout his time as a Captain Pilot, Joseph has led countless successful missions, including some of the most complex and risky in the Navy's history. He is known for his calm demeanor in high-pressure situations, his ability to make quick, critical decisions, and his unwavering commitment to the safety of his team.
Joseph is a professional and disciplined with a calm demeanor. He's confident and highly skilled, but he's also humble and treats everyone with respect. He's a natural leader and motivator, with a talent for mentoring and training young pilots. Joseph is deeply committed to the safety of his team, and he takes his responsibilities as a Captain Pilot very seriously. Despite the risks associated with his job, Joseph always remains focused and level-headed, making critical decisions with precision and clarity. Overall, he's a dependable and respected member of the Navy flight community. Joseph is a man of his word. He values honesty and integrity and expects the same of others. He is an excellent listener and takes the concerns of his teammates seriously, giving everyone a voice and respect. He has a good sense of humor, but also knows when it's time to be serious. Joseph is logical, pragmatic and displays a keen attention to detail. He is someone who stays aware of his emotions, and he wouldn't let them cloud his judgment. This total package of his personality traits made his subordinates love and trust him.
His call sign is "Shadow". That name was given to Joseph because of his exceptional ability to remain undetected and invisible to the enemy. Much like a shadow, Joseph operates in the shadows and is always one step ahead of his opponents. He is a master of stealth tactics and is always looking for ways to outmaneuver his opponents before they even know he is there. His fellow pilots are in awe of his ability to fly so low and so close to the ground, without being detected by the enemies. The name "Shadow" is a reflection of Joseph's ability to operate in the dark and remain invisible until it's too late for his enemies to react. Whenever the call "Shadow" comes up on the radio, his fellow pilots know that Joseph is up in the air, silently and deadly waiting to strike. They trust that he can take on any mission with grace and precision, and that his ability to remain undetected will give their team a major advantage in any battle.
His closest friend in the Top Gun academy was Mave. Though Joseph and Maverick have a complicated relationship, as they are both highly competitive and have a bit of a rivalry that has been brewing since they first crossed paths in training. Although they are both exceptional pilots, they have different approaches to flying, and this often leads to tension between them. Maverick is flashy and impulsive, whereas Joseph is more calculated and precise. They are often at odds with each other during training exercises and can even be seen as "frenemies" of sorts. However, deep down, they both have a mutual respect for each other's skills and abilities. Despite their competition, Maverick and Joseph eventually find common ground and respect each other as both pilots and individuals. Maverick recognizes Joseph's intelligence and precision in the cockpit, while Joseph acknowledges Maverick's natural talent and ability to think on his feet. While they may still clash every now and then, they ultimately become close friends and colleagues who bring out the best in each other. They push each other to be better pilots and better people, and their rivalry helps them both to become more well-rounded and skilled pilots.
Janice "Valkyrie" Mitchell.
Name: Janice Mitchell
Age: 36
Height: 6'1
Sexuality: Pansexual
Janice and Pete have always been close, despite their 3-year age difference. Growing up, they shared a love for flying and a competitive spirit that pushed them both to be their best. Although Janice chose a different career path than Pete, they both remained committed to their work and supported each other in their respective roles.
She followed in his footsteps by joining the Navy after graduating from high school. However, rather than becoming a pilot like her brother, she went into the field of intelligence and became a top-secret operative.
Janice was stationed overseas, working on covert missions for years, until she was wounded in the line of duty. When her recovery took longer than anticipated, she was sent back home to the United States to finish her rehabilitation. When Pete learned that Janice had been injured and would be returning home to the United States for her rehabilitation, he was devastated. He had always been close to his sister and knew how much she loved her job, so he knew how much this would impact her. He felt partially responsible, since he had encouraged her to take the overseas assignment in the first place. From that day forward, he made it his personal mission to do everything he could to support his sister and help her recover.
Janice is a very resilient and determined individual. She has always had a love of adventure and a willingness to explore new things, but she is also incredibly disciplined and hardworking. When she sets her mind to something, she puts all her effort into achieving her goal. Janice is also known for her intelligence and analytical mind. Although she enjoys physical challenges, she is equally comfortable with mental pursuits, particularly those that require her to solve complex problems or analyze large amounts of data. Janice is a fiercely independent, driven, and intelligent woman. She has always been determined to make a difference in the world and has a deep sense of purpose. She is confident and resourceful, with the ability to think quickly and calmly in stressful situations. She has a bit of a wild streak and enjoys thrills and challenges, which is why she took the overseas assignment without hesitation. Despite her tough exterior, Janice is also very caring and loyal. She values her relationships and the people she cares about.
Janice's call sign is"Valkyrie" due to her fierce and independent personality. This call sign is also inspired by her love of flying and her thrill-seeking nature as "Valkyries" are a legendary race of female warriors from Norse mythology, often associated with bravery and battle.
The relationship between Beau and Janice could be described as basically enemies while being lovers. He is a highly skilled pilot, known for his aggressive flying style and competitive nature, which creates an interesting dynamic with Janice's own competitive personality, as they both strive for excellence. Additionally, Cyclone has a reputation for pushing boundaries and taking risks, which appeals to Janice's sense of adventure. However, Cyclone's reckless behavior also challenges Janice's decision-making skills, creating tension and conflicts between them. In terms of personality, Cyclone is described as charming but cocky and Janice is having none of it while still being in love with this cocky bastard.
Janice and Tom Kazansky have been best friends for years, since their flight school days. They share a deep, platonic bond, having been through many ups and downs together over the years. Janice is often the more level-headed one of the two, and Tom has a tendency to fly off the handle or be more impulsive. Despite their differences, they complement each other well and have a deep understanding of one another. They have each other's backs, through thick and thin, and know how to cheer each other up or calm each other down. Their friendship is also marked by a healthy dose of competition. Janice and Tom's competitive streak is a defining characteristic of their friendship. They often try to outdo each other in different areas--whether it's in the flight simulator or other competitions outside of flying. However, this competition is always done in good fun, and they both use it to push each other to become better. Janice is a good listener and knows how to offer Tom emotional support, even when he's not at his best. Tom, on the other hand, is able to make Janice laugh and bring a lighter side to her more serious personality. They also have unique inside jokes and certain things they've experienced together.
Elena "Enigma" Seresin
Name: Elena Seresin
Age: 25
Height: 6'1
Sexuality: Bisexual
Elena Seresin is the older sister of Jake "Hangman" Seresin, who is known for his heroics in the Top Gun program. Elena was originally planning to follow in her father's footsteps and become a Navy pilot like Jake, but after losing her father in an aviation accident, she decided to take another path. When she was 18, she joined the United States Navy and became a pilot. She quickly excelled in her training which led her to become a Top Gun instructor. Elena Seresin was the eldest child in her family and had always been the responsible one. Her younger brother, Jake, was more of a wild child who often got into trouble.
Their parents were both retired Navy pilots and had instilled their passion for flying and serving their country in their children at a young age. Elena had always been the more level-headed of the two siblings, excelling in school and planning on following in her parents' footsteps by joining the Navy. Elena is incredibly intelligent and hardworking, and after graduating at the top of her class, she went on to work for a prominent aerospace engineering firm. Her expertise in aerodynamics proved invaluable, and she quickly worked her way up to become a lead engineer.
As a lead engineer at the aerospace engineering firm, Elena worked on designing cutting-edge aircraft with advanced maneuvering capabilities. She was responsible for analyzing and testing new prototypes, and her expertise in aerodynamics allowed her to fine-tune designs to maximize performance and minimize drag. She quickly became known as one of the most talented engineers in the firm, and her designs played a crucial role in the development of some of the most advanced aircraft in the industry.
She quickly became known as one of the most talented engineers in the firm, and her designs played a crucial role in the development of some of the most advanced aircraft in the industry. However, despite her success in this field, Elena has always harbored some regret about not following in her brother's footsteps and becoming a pilot, which she actually planned on doing and succeeded.
As adults, they still maintain a strong bond, and Elena is one of Jake's biggest supporters in the Top Gun program. She admires his dedication and skill, and frequently offers her engineering expertise to help him fine-tune his flying technique. Elena and Jake have always been very close, despite their different career paths. Growing up, they would often play together, with Jake always taking the role of the "hero" while Elena played a supporting role. Nonetheless, she always looked up to her brother and was inspired by his bravery and skill in the cockpit. Though they have different paths now, they continue to support each other on their respective careers. In fact, Elena regularly keeps in touch with her brother and offers to help with his aviation projects. She has been known to develop a special aerodynamics module that allows pilots to better understand how their planes move through the air and how to optimize maneuverability. Overall, Elena sees her work as an engineer as complementing her brother's work as a pilot, and she is proud of the contributions that the both of them have made to the field of aviation. Elena's passion for engineering and Jake's passion for flying have been the source of much inspiration for the siblings, with each recognizing the unique strengths of the other. Whenever they get together, they often spend hours discussing the latest developments in their respective fields, and they have been known to offer helpful feedback and insights to one another. Their close bond is a testament to the power of family and the importance of having someone who believes in you no matter what.
Her best friend was the one and only Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw. Over time, Bradley and Elena strike up a close friendship, bonding over their shared passion for flying and their experiences in the military. Rooster becomes a trusted confidant for Elena, and she values his advice and support as she faces new challenges and opportunities in her military career. Their friendship might be a source of tension with Maverick, especially if he is still harboring negative feelings towards Rooster for any past disagreements they may have had. However, with time, Maverick may come to accept and even appreciate the bond between his sister and his former rival, as he realizes that they share a deep respect and admiration for each other's flying skills and determination.
Elena is a determined and passionate young woman. Growing up in a military family, she has always been fascinated by fighter jets and has set her sights on becoming a fighter pilot herself. She is highly skilled and confident in the air, but she is also mindful of the risks and challenges that come with being a military pilot. This awareness motivates her to constantly seek ways to improve her skills and become an even better pilot. As a person, Elena is deeply loyal to her friends and family. She is compassionate and empathetic, always willing to lend an ear or a helping hand to those in need. However, she can also bevery independent and self-sufficient, partly due to growing up in a military family and having to move frequently. This independence has made her a strong and resilient person, able to handle difficult situations with grace and confidence. Despite her determination and independence, Elena can also be vulnerable at times. She has moments of self-doubt and can be hard on herself, especially when it comes to her flying skills. However, she does not let these moments define her, and she always works hard to overcome any challenges or setbacks she may face. Overall, Elena is a well-rounded character with strengths and weaknesses that make her relatable and endearing. She is fiercely committed to her goals and her loved ones, but she is also willing to acknowledge her flaws and work to improve herself.
Elena's call sign is "Enigma". It represents her mysterious and enigmatic nature as well as her abilities to solve complex probems.
Hopefully y'all like them!
When trailers outshine themselves
I like watching trailers. Maybe even more now than I used to.
I’m well aware that the purpose of a trailer is to build hype and interest. It’s a commercial, to get you to buy something. In some cases, they spoil or ruin the very story they’re advertising. In some cases, it’s way better to go in “blind” than to look at marketing materials.
But, like many of us, I can’t help myself.
I really love a good trailer. It’s a cool artform. Somewhere between an advertisement and a music video. And because the trailer is such a different artform than the actual movie or game that it’s advertising, sometimes the trailer itself is even better than the final product. Sometimes I’ll go back and rewatch a trailer over and over, even after I’ve completed the actual thing it was hyping it.
I write this post not to complain about being disappointed about films or TV shows or games, but rather to give a shout-out to the trailer teams who I think did a fantastic job with their assignment.
The first examples that always jump to my mind are from Marvel Studios. I think they’re pretty great at trailers. I started noticing this when they started making their Disney+ shows.
WandaVision: Both the initial trailer and the mid-season trailer are fantastic. I’ve watched them over and over. They do a good job of being charming, romantic, and lovesick. They do an even better job of being mysterious and unsettling. It’s a pitch-perfect way to get you to buy into the concept and want to check out the show. I enjoyed watching the full WandaVision show, maybe moreso than any other MCU Disney+ show, but I wouldn’t hesitate to admit that I like these two trailers even more than the show. Kudos to the editors that put these together.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier: I had absolutely no intention of watching this show. I’m not particularly interested in this genre or either of these two characters. But the trailer sold me on it, with its hype music choices and intense cutting. I ended up enjoying the show enough in the end, but definitely not as much as this hype trailer.
I thought Marvel did a great job again with Loki’s trailer and Hawkeye’s trailer. Loki’s trailer makes the show seem a lot more mysterious and surreal than it actually ended up being, haha. Hawkeye does that classic “sweet Christmas music juxtaposed with action sequences” trick.
They got me again with Moon Knight, a character I didn’t know anything about. Although I’ll give credit, I feel like Moon Knight was about as weird and wild as the trailer hyped up it would be. So in this case I think it was a satisfying match.
Another satisfying match? The trailers made for Undertale. The release trailer and Nintendo Switch trailer come to mind. They’re fun, funny, and show off how the game works. I love this unique version of the Bonetrousle track that they use, which becomes very dramatic and grandiose. They’re also good examples of including original material into trailers that aren’t actually in the final product. That practice, generally speaking, doesn’t bother me. I don’t mind if trailers “lie” or show different footage, so long as it’s effective and doesn’t feel misleading.
There are other trailers that I feel like match pretty well. I didn’t feel any gulf in expectation or emotion between the trailers for Avengers Infinity War + Endgame versus their final movie versions.
The trailers for Pixar’s Turning Red made me blubber and tear up, and the full film completely lived up to that and even exceeded it. So for me, that was a great film where the trailer editors captured it perfectly.
And for an example of one where I felt mixed on the end product, both the trailer for Pixar’s Elemental and the full Elemental film felt pretty equivalent to me. It wasn’t my favorite movie in the world, and I feel like I got that vibe accurately from the trailers.
But now, finally, for the trailers that brought me to writing this.
I really love the trailers for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
I’ll include two here. One is the “release date announcement”, and the second was the “theme song announcement” that was aired at The Game Awards.
youtube
This is great. It’s moody. It moves into one of the game’s fantastic battle themes (which is itself a sweeping battle rendition of the original game’s main theme.) It’s shows off how the combat works beautifully, intercut with tantalizing plot snippets. The trailer builds up mystery and adventure. It confirms that Yuffie and Cait Sith are playable. It shows cool Synergy combo moves. It manages to somehow transition gracefully into Golden Saucer minigame mayhem. Love it.
youtube
Another fantastic one. And the last piece of marketing material I would ever need to see to sell me on getting the game.
The trailer is split into two halves. The first half establishes the plot of the game. It gives us Cloud and Zack’s stories intertwined. It shows us weird, confusing story stuff that sets the Remake trilogy apart from the original. It shows us different environments you’ll travel through. Gives us a heartfelt conversation between Cloud and Tifa. Snippets of Barret’s story too.
The second half is the new original song for the game, No Promises to Keep, which was performed live at The Game Awards along with the footage. I really adore this song, to be blunt, so maybe that’s doing a lot of heavy lifting here. But it really makes me emotional and ties a lot of these disparate clips together. The animation of Aerith singing is beautiful, and it ends on a heart-tugging cliffhanger.
Now….my partner and I have been playing Rebirth. I’m early on, but they’ve only got about a quarter of the game left. We’re enjoying it, it’s great.
But…
…would it be out of line for me to say that the trailers are more effective than the game itself?
Much like WandaVision, the trailers for Rebirth sew all of the different scenes and emotions together into a seamless tapestry. It makes everything feel intentional, beautiful, well-paced, and packing an emotional punch. When my partner and I play the game itself, it feels harder for that intentionality and emotion to come through. Of course your mileage will vary. But, for me, it’s hard for the minigames to live up to the frantic montage when playing them in-game isn’t super fun. It’s hard for the emotional storytelling of the game to live up to the trailer when it’s spread out thin over hours and hours. Nothing in the game itself as made me feel as emotional or hooked in as these two trailers have, at least so far.
Again, this is not a knock on Rebirth. It’s the reality of how much easier it is to move hearts with a 2-minute trailer versus a 60-hour video game. A completely different artform.
And, most of all, it’s kudos to the trailer teams who work at Square and at all these companies for knowing the assignment and knocking it out of the park. I really love what they did with it.
How Safety Co-Pilot and Red Zone Monitoring Systems are Transforming Jobsite Safety
Safety has no longer been part of this fast-paced industrial world's priority list; it has become a necessity. Be it your construction site, mining operation, or managing a manufacturing facility, the ultimate standards of safety keep going higher and higher.
In the different places of construction, manufacturing, and mining boom, such as Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi, ensuring high safety standards is compliance - it is a protection of lives, increasing productivity, and optimising operational efficiency. In this blog, you will understand the utility of a red zone monitoring system to minimise unpredictable injuries in the workplace.
Role of Safety Co-Pilot in Jobsite Safety
An all-important phenomenon for industries in the quest to develop better safety measures, it is indeed a 24/7 AI-powered assistant for safety, bringing real-time alerts and hazard detection to the table based on ongoing data analysis.
For industries in Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, and other places around the Gulf region, Safety Co-Pilot brings into play a modern, streamlined way of doing things in job site safety. The platform, with Generative AI, analyses and interprets massive amounts of real-time data from video feeds to sensor inputs and makes instant recommendations regarding safety decisions. In manufacturing, construction, and mining sites, human error and sudden accidents are the biggest causes of downtime.
The safety co-pilot offers the following main features:
Real-time alerts: It is a virtual safety manager that constantly stands at the top of your site, attempting to alert you to real hazards before they deepen into major issues. The Safety Co-Pilot informs teams in real-time and reduces the response time to incidents, preventing accidents that could have occurred.
AI-driven insights: with historical data analysis, the Safety Co-Pilot doesn't react but predicts potential hazards. For instance, in the event that it is possible to identify that some of the activities conducted at the job site are related to higher accident rates, then the system should be able to suggest corrective measures, such as placing equipment in a different location or modifying workflow patterns.
This kind of predictive capability is very useful in industries like food and beverage manufacturing, where high safety standards have to be upheld for employee well-being and the quality of products.
However, aside from purely safety-related benefits, the Safety Co-Pilot is also about resource optimisation. It achieves this by studying each worker's performance, upon which it can recommend more efficient methods for task assignment and, therefore, reduce inefficiencies and downtime. This is particularly useful in smart industries where time and space are generally at a premium, and any mistake can affect the entire project timelines and budgets.
Toiling Red Zones with AI- the Red Zone Monitoring System
Take, for example, workers who are exposed to higher-risk areas such as drilling rigs, in the case of the oil and gas industry, or high-traffic zones within construction sites. It's always a challenge to balance safety with productivity. This is where Red Zone Monitoring Systems come in.
Red Zone Monitoring Key feature
Monitoring Red Zone Systems uses advanced video analytics to track activity in real time. In such a manner, the system identifies an unsafe worker position or an equipment malfunction. It delivers all this information in real-time to safety teams so they can intervene more quickly to prevent situations from becoming accidents.
One of the common problems in intrusion alerts is unauthorised personnel entering high-risk zones. The Red Zone Monitoring System solves this by sending instant alerts when someone enters a restricted area, thus preventing accidents due to human error or interference from equipment.
Failure to Equip: In oil, gas, and energy, equipment failure can be cataclysmic. AI-based equipment failure prediction and detection by Red Zone Monitoring prevents untimely occurrence of equipment failure and reduces machine downtime and the eventual loss of the machine.
Edge of Advantage Industries
Benefits of these AI safety systems for Hong Kong, Dubai, Qatar, and more include:
Safety Co-Pilot and Red Zone Monitoring: Both contribute to higher safety since they provide real-time data and alerts. They can prevent more accidents from occurring rather than merely reacting to them.
Efficient Processes: Such systems will be able to optimise the flow of work to catch inefficiencies and minimise downtime. This will increase the productivity of plants in manufacturing, construction teams, and mining operations.
Better Decision Making: With a real-time view, managers make better decisions quicker. This is true, especially in high-risk sectors of auto and EV manufacturing industries where timing is everything and standards for safety matter a great deal.
Conclusion
As industries evolve and grow, the need for smarter and more efficient safety systems has become one thing that is ranked more seriously than ever. The AI-driven Safety Co-Pilot and Red Zone Monitoring Systems are applied in an integrated approach to the management of job site safety, minimising risks and ensuring maximum productivity.
If you want to upscale your company's safety protocols, then visit viAct and utilise Safety Co-Pilot and Red Zone Monitoring Systems to deliver solutions together. Do not wait for accidents, but embrace the future of safety today.
When traveling abroad for work in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, completing a Gulf Medical Appointment is a crucial step. This mandatory medical examination ensures that all expatriates are in good health before entering countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar. In this article, we will break down the appointment process, its importance, and how to make it as seamless as possible.
What is a Gulf Medical Appointment?
A Gulf Medical Appointment refers to the pre-departure medical test required for foreign workers aiming to work in the GCC. This examination is part of the Gulf Approved Medical Centers Association (GAMCA) guidelines, ensuring that potential expatriates meet the health standards of the Gulf countries.
During the appointment, individuals undergo a series of medical tests that check for infectious diseases like tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis, and other conditions that might pose public health risks. These health checks ensure that foreign workers do not introduce or spread illnesses that could jeopardize the local population.
Steps to Book a Gulf Medical Appointment
Booking a Gulf Medical Appointment is a simple process but requires attention to detail. Here are the key steps:
Registration through GAMCA Portal: The first step is registering online on the GAMCA website, where you will need to enter your personal details such as your name, passport number, and visa details. After registration, the system will assign you to an approved medical center in your country.
Appointment Confirmation: Once the registration is complete, you’ll receive an appointment date and the address of the designated medical center. Make sure to keep this information handy as it will be required on the day of your appointment.
Document Preparation: You need to bring essential documents to your appointment, including your passport, visa, appointment confirmation receipt, and recent passport-sized photographs. These documents are necessary to verify your identity and eligibility for the medical examination.
The Medical Examination: On the day of your Gulf Medical Appointment, you will undergo a series of tests including blood tests, chest X-rays, and physical exams. The duration of the examination depends on the tests prescribed, but it generally takes a few hours.
Receiving the Results: After the medical examination, the results will be sent directly to the embassy or consulate of the Gulf country where you are seeking employment. If you pass the medical exam, you will be cleared to proceed with your visa application.
Tips for a Smooth Gulf Medical Appointment
Here are a few tips to ensure that your Gulf Medical Appointment goes as smoothly as possible:
Book Early: GAMCA centers are often busy, so it's advisable to book your appointment as soon as you receive your job offer.
Stay Healthy: Leading up to the appointment, maintain a healthy lifestyle. Avoid smoking or consuming alcohol, as these can affect your medical results.
Bring All Required Documents: Ensure that all necessary documents are prepared in advance, including extra copies, to avoid delays on the day of your examination.
Arrive Early: On the day of your appointment, arrive at the medical center early to avoid any last-minute issues. Late arrivals may lead to rescheduling.
Conclusion
Completing a Gulf Medical Appointment is an essential step in the visa application process for expatriates heading to GCC countries. By following the right steps, preparing your documents, and ensuring good health, you can make the process efficient and hassle-free. Once cleared, you are one step closer to starting your new job and life in the Gulf region.
Wafid Medical for Gulf Countries: Streamlining Health Requirements for Expats
Wafid Medical for Gulf countries plays a pivotal role in facilitating medical screenings for individuals planning to work or reside in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations. Whether you're moving to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, or Qatar, Wafid Medical ensures a smooth and efficient process, ensuring you meet the health regulations necessary to obtain your visa.
Understanding Wafid Medical for Gulf Countries
Wafid, previously known as GAMCA (Gulf Approved Medical Centers Association), is a system established to manage and oversee the medical examination process for expatriates. Before individuals can be granted a work or residence visa in a GCC country, they must undergo a medical test to ensure they do not have any communicable diseases, such as tuberculosis or hepatitis. Wafid Medical streamlines this process by coordinating with approved medical centers in various countries, providing a standardized system of examination and reporting.
Why Wafid Medical is Important for Expats
The Gulf region attracts millions of expatriates each year due to its growing economies, tax-free incomes, and vast job opportunities. Whether you’re a professional seeking employment or a worker in the construction, hospitality, or healthcare sectors, you are required to pass the Wafid Medical examination before being granted a visa.
The system was introduced to protect the public health of the GCC nations and ensure that people entering these countries are free from infectious diseases that could pose a threat to public health. Wafid Medical for Gulf countries ensures that medical screening is transparent, reliable, and meets international health standards.
The Medical Examination Process
Once registered with Wafid, expatriates are assigned to a designated Wafid-approved medical center. The medical examination typically includes the following:
Blood tests for diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis.
Chest X-rays to check for tuberculosis.
Physical examination to detect any visible signs of illness or disability.
After completing the examination, the medical center sends the results directly to Wafid. If the individual passes the examination, the results are forwarded to the relevant embassy or consulate for visa processing. If any health concerns are identified, additional tests may be required, and in some cases, individuals may be deemed unfit for entry into the Gulf region.
Streamlining the Process with Online Registration
Wafid has taken significant steps to digitize the registration process, making it easier for expatriates to book appointments and track the status of their medical reports. The online registration system allows individuals to:
Choose from a list of Wafid-approved medical centers in their country.
Schedule an appointment at a convenient time.
Track the status of their medical test results.
This online registration system has been particularly beneficial for expatriates, eliminating long waiting periods and making the process more transparent and accessible.
Key Benefits of Wafid Medical for Gulf Countries
Health Assurance: Wafid ensures that only healthy individuals are permitted to enter the Gulf countries, maintaining a high standard of public health and safety.
Transparency: The digital registration and reporting system provides clear and concise updates throughout the medical screening process, offering peace of mind for expatriates.
Convenience: Wafid has made it easier for individuals to find approved medical centers, schedule appointments, and receive timely results.
Compliance: By adhering to Wafid guidelines, expatriates can avoid delays in visa processing and reduce the risk of rejection due to medical reasons.
Conclusion
Wafid Medical for Gulf countries is an essential component of the expatriation process to the Gulf region. By offering a structured, reliable, and efficient medical examination process, Wafid not only helps protect the public health of GCC nations but also ensures that expatriates have a seamless experience in meeting their health requirements. Fishing and the open water
Imagine a vast place called the Everglades, where nature's music plays all around you. It's a place where you can find peace and adventure. The theme I have chosen for this manifesto is fishing. It's mainly inspired by the poem I had written about during one of our assignments," I have never been fishing on the Susquehanna," including a memorable day spent fishing with an old man during a hurricane in the Everglades. Fishing is one of my favorite outdoor activities, reflected in my work during the semester.
It's all about embracing nature's call. The Everglades is a wild place full of beauty and excitement. When we go there, we connect with nature in a special way. It's like returning to our roots and feeling at home in the world. There are endless opportunities to explore and discover. The meaning of fishing lies deep within me and reminds me of a poem I read for one of our assignments: "I have never been fishing on the Susquehanna." It's about longing for simplicity and connection with nature. I feel part of something bigger when I'm out on the water. Each fish I catch feels like a small victory, a reminder of life's ups and downs. My biggest takeaway from the poem is comparing the river to life. The constant moving and changing of different pathways the water may take the way life is when we finish school and start our new career jobs to move forward in life. It relates to me in a big way because I am at this exact part of my life trying to finish school and start a career with hopeful plans of starting a family as well.
One unforgettable experience I had written about was fishing in the Everglades, knowing a hurricane was coming. It was a scary and exciting day. Despite the storm, I still went out fishing and had the pleasure of running into an older man trying to shelter from the storm. We did not know each other well, but both of us shared our passion for fishing. As the wind howled and the rain poured down, we stood firm together, facing the storm head-on. In tough times, we discovered our inner strength.
The photographer's eye assignment was my last assignment, and it tied this theme together. Each picture shows my true joy in fishing and being on the water. Nothing can beat that feeling of freedom, from the surreal aqua-blue water of the Gulf of Mexico to the smiles of my wife and me holding a beautiful Gag Grouper. Being 20 miles offshore is very similar to being in the desert and seeing the same landscape as far as the eye can see, as well as the faint mirages you might mistake for other vessels. You can scream at the top of your lungs without anyone even noticing you are in existence. It is a feeling that is very hard to explain if you have done it yourself. It is an excellent escape from reality, and the busy days working and worrying about life's obstacles seem to feel minute when you're twenty miles offshore.
In conclusion, being on the water and fishing is a unique experience that teaches us about ourselves and the world around us. It is a chance to escape the business of life and connect with nature meaningfully. Let's cherish these moments and do our part to preserve the beauty of the water and our local Everglades so many people in the future can experience what I get to experience every day.
