Arthurian videogames with romances (I added a little rainbow for queer romances options)
(in order of pics above, from left to right, top to borrom)
Secret Kiss with Knight: Otome -> mobile game, classic otome game with pay to unlock extra content. The romance options are Arthur, Merlin, Mordred and Galahad. Not played, so I cannot add any commentary.
Princess Arthur -> another otome mobile game, unfortunately impossible to find if not in Japanese now. Multiple romance options: Tristan, Lancelot, Merlin, Galahad, Mordred (not Arthur's son), Gawain. You play as a female Arthur character. The route are pretty long and complex, and it was set in arthurian times (with other secondary characters like Medraut, Morgause, Kay etc.). Quite good game too.
Choices: Guinevere ️‍🌈 -> free mobile game from "Choices: Stories you play", where you play Guinevere and you can romance Arthur or Lancelot. Arthur and Lancelot are not gender locked so you can choose their gender too. The game is complete and deal with Guinevere romance too, her arrival to Camelot and some strange premonition of danger she is having.
Pendragon Rising ️‍🌈 -> text game from "Choice of Games" (you can also buy it on steam). You play as Arthur (male or female) and you have to consolidate power and save Camelot as Uther is aging. The romance options seem to be Morgana, Emrys and Gawain (their gender seems to be chosen by the player, I am not sure).
The Chronicles of Lancelot ️‍🌈 -> gay (mlm) p0rn game on itch io and steam. THIS IS NOT FOR MINORS. You play as Lancelot, branded as a traitor after Ban has been accused of killing Uther. You go around sleeping with various characters (Kay, Gawain, Arthur, OCs) and trying to find out what happened to Excalibur. I am currently playing it, so I am not completely sure, but it looks like Arthur might be more of a romance option than the rest of the flirting and sleeping with options.
Arthurian Tale: Camelot ️‍🌈 -> ongoing text game by @cain--abel, I have not played it. You can play as any gender and you arrive at Camelot after Uther's death to find out who is the pretender who took the throne (Arthur). The romance options are Kay, Lancelot, Arthur (or Elaine, depending on the gender), Morgana, Lunete. You can play it here.
The Bastard of Camelot ️‍🌈 -> ongoing text game by @llamagirl28 and my favorite arthurian videogame ever. You play as Mordred (any gender) since his early years, meeting Arthur for the first time (and you can also decide how to react to your estranged father) and growing up with your dragon friend. There are multiple romance options: Gawain (Kay's son), Elaine, Galahad, Nimue, Isac (OC), Sophie, Agravaine (not related to Mordred). You can play it here.

Guinevere Áine of Carmelide
I don't have much at all for my Guinevere yet since this will be my first time playing the book. Obviously, I'm familiar with Arthurian Legend but I don't know how similar or different this book is, so I'm waiting to add more.
The gorgeous portrait of my Guin is by the loveliest and most talented @lilyoffandoms. I can't thank them enough for bringing her to life! She looks so pretty!!! 😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰

ANNOUNCEMENT
Tumblr media
Beginning Sunday, July 16th, CFWC will begin sharing Choices Fanart!
Like with our fanfics, it would be best if you tag @choicesficwriterscreations. It's the only way to ensure we see it. But if we find art "in the wild," we will be happy to share that as well.
Rules:
Creation must be related to any Pixelberry Choices characters or stories.
The art must be your own creation, or
It can be a commission that you paid for; however, if the artist is on Tumblr, you need to tag them in the post. If they are not on Tumblr, must mention the artist's name, and we suggest including where they can be found (i.e., Instagram).
Like CFWC Fics of the Week, lists will be published on Sunday and include work from Sunday through Saturday of the prior week.
Works will be archived by story as well (for those unfamiliar, the CFWC Fics of the Week archive can be found here. The art will either be included or will have a similar archive just for art - we're still working that out.)
Tag us if you want to ensure it's included, but if we see art in the main tags, we will reblog and share it as well.
As with fictions, please use appropriate trigger warnings when necessary. Art that is of a mature or explicit nature must be labeled as such.
JULY AND AUGUST 2023 ONLY
Normally, we will only be sharing art from the prior week. But, since this is a new feature and we want creators to be seen & acknowledged, for the remainder of July and all of August, we will allow previously posted art to be shared.
To do so, please reblog the artwork and make sure to tag @choicesficwriterscreations and use the tag #cfwc art
If you have any questions, send an ask or reach out to the mods @jerzwriter or @cfwcmod-lucy

So I have a thousand thoughts about Chapter 14 of Guinevere but I know they’re going to evolve very quickly in the coming weeks, so for now, all I’m going to say is this: it blows my mind how well the writers have managed to incorporate Merlin’s accusations of infidelity into Arthur’s romance route, to the point where they don’t just make sense, they also hit super hard emotionally & even raise some interesting ideas that don’t come up in Lancelot’s route. Like, the fact that Lancelot is so painfully in love with Guinevere, they fought so hard to suppress it until they finally snapped, and then all they get for that is a broken heart & the knowledge that Guinevere is at risk of death because of their momentary lapse in self-control? That is a devastating outcome for them. It is a tragedy in the traditional sense, the kind you would see in a Shakespearean or Greco-Roman play. And the writers don’t just skim over it, they lean right in. Then on top of that, what about the fact that Merlin’s accusations are now entirely baseless? The fact that he is now undeniably 100% responsible for orchestrating his own vision of Camelot’s fall, because there is no way Guinevere could have been accused of treason without his interference, but also that vision was what made him interfere in the first place? That particular plot point raises so many questions about predestination that are way more complex & nuanced than I ever expected from Choices, and the fact that they’re being raised in a choose-your-own-adventure game – a format that inherently challenges the concept of narrative predestination – is also insanely interesting to me. Watch this space for more thoughts, but for now, here are the screenshots that triggered this essay. I’m still getting over just how awesome they are.

After playing Guinevere and TRR, I can't stop myself from doing this 😂😂
Liam: Daddy's gonna buy you a mockingbird
I'ma give you the world
I'ma buy a diamond ring for you
I'ma sing for you
I'll do anything for you, to see you smile
Arthur : And if that mocking bird don't sing and that ring don't shine
I'ma break that birdie's neck
I'd go back to the jeweler who sold it to ya
And make him eat every carat

A bit of a historical perspective over Guinevere
So you know how the book starts with something like "this is the legend, but not quite how the world remembers"? Basically, my gameplay revolves around following the legend closely, but with a few twists. Here's how I figure it would work:
Tumblr media
King Arthur: I wasn't really expecting to choose this appearance for him, but I found the other male version so weird and plain I much preferred this one. Personally, and as a History student, I can see the artists of old changing the great king's looks to a more "European" stereotype. Yes, I think Arthur could've been whitewhashed over the centuries. Honestly, would it surprise you?
Tumblr media
Lancelot: I love how the name is unisex in the book. Did you know that early texts (the Lancelot-Grail) describe Lancelot having "feminine hands and neck"? What if he was, in fact, a woman? Sure, women as knights were exceptionally rare in Europe, but inconceivable? Not really. Of course, in my mind, prejudice and misogyny ended up turning her into a male character over the years.
Tumblr media
Guinevere: Honestly, her name is kind of a enigma, so I chose to keep it simple. In my story, she has feelings both for Arthur and for Lancelot, but her duty to her kingdom comes first. Lancelot becomes her champion, that part History got right. But the knight repels her so much that Guinevere ends up spending more time with her betrothed, and falls in love with him. So ultimately, although she kinda had an affair with Lancelot, it was a short-lived one, before her wedding. Later poets just took that story and added a lot more drama.
And what happens afterwards? Well, in my headcanon, since Arthur and Guinevere couldn't conceive children of their own, Mordred became the heir, not the usurper. Arthur died in battle years later, and Guinevere didn't become a nun, but instead an advisor to her nephew, until she died of old age. Lancelot provided that the couple was buried together and also died shortly after.
