kinktober day 12 - cockwarming dick grayson x fem!reader cw: nsfw (18+), smut, p in v, cockwarming, praise/degradation
"Ah, ah, ah. No moving, baby. That was the deal, remember?" your boyfriend coos from behind you.
Your velvety walls flutter around him, all your other muscles going taut with frustration. Tilting your head back, a whimper echoes from you.
Right now, he was really living up to his name.
"Pleaseeeee, Dick," you whine. A pout forms on your lips even though he wouldn't be able to see it from this angle.
"No," he laughs and pats your ass, "You said this would be enough for you. That you didn't need strenuous activity to feel good."
He was laying in bed, as the doctor (Alfred) had ordered. A pile of plush pillows pile behind him, keeping his bruised face elevated. More cuts and scrapes littered his chest and abs and mark up those beautiful muscles with remnants of the pain he'd endured. You sat on his lap facing away from him, his cock buried inside you.
Last week, he had a pretty rough night. On patrol, some guys got the jump on him, had some weapons he'd never encountered or something like that. It was hard to understand the story with the way he'd mumbled it out when he came home barely conscious. The state he was in scared the life out of you. You called Alfred in tears, sobbing into the phone about how you thought Dick was gonna die on the floor of your kitchen.
As it turned out, he was fine. Totally fine by now, which was why you felt comfortable rubbing up on him and snaking your hand down south to the waistband of his loose sweatpants. It had been over a week since Alfred told him to get some rest, and he had no real injuries. He just loved to tease you, so he insisted sex was still beyond the limitations of his current physical capabilities.
He made you BEG to even sit here with him inside you. You hoped that would convince him to take it easy on you for the rest of this, but clearly, you'd overestimated your boyfriend's compassion.
"Why? You don't even have to move," you plead.
You don't have to see his face to know the gleam of amusement his eyes hold and the smirk that spreads over his lips.
"Sure, sure. Cause you never get tired halfway through being on top and start whining for me to take over," he mocks, "I know that'd be the next thing you ask for."
"I won't," you defend, "Please just let me move... I need it."
You look over your shoulder now and catch sight of the stupid look you'd envisioned in your head. Those pretty blue eyes gaze up at you, his ego clear in each cerulean fleck. His hands below knead the soft muscles of your ass. They dig into the flesh and rub at your thighs too. The touches send tingles straight to the pit of your belly, more arousal leaking from you in response.
"I don't know... It's bad enough you're not letting me rest properly, but now this? Seems like you're asking for a lot," he goads.
Anguish plumes in your chest. You nearly topple forward and smoosh your face into the blankets, the urge to kick and pound your fists on the bed insurmountable. Instead, your hands clasp around his meaty thighs. You squeeze as if that could give you the will to remain motionless. If you moved before he gave you permission, you weren't sure you'd see another orgasm this year.
"Dick, come on," you beg, head hanging, "Why do you hate me?"
That gets a hearty laugh out of him. His palms smooth up your sides to hold your waist.
"Don't try to guilt trip me, babe. You're not very good at it," he says. The pads of his fingertips massage your curves in tiny strokes. "You can wait a little longer."
"You've already made me wait so long. It hurts," you plead. If guilt wouldn't work, maybe sympathy will.
"Oh, does it? I think that's just your pride, sweetheart. You're acting so pathetic for me right now," he teases.
You didn't know what to try next. More broken cries tumble from your lips. In truth, waiting didn't hurt, but it was growing uncomfortable. The slick between your legs was sticky, and you wanted to get away from it by bouncing up and down. His length had been sitting inside you for so long it felt like a word you'd said too many times. The only way to forget about it would be to fuck yourself silly on top of him.
But he stays true to his word. He makes you wait. You sit on top of him for you don't even know how long. Occasionally, he shifts his hips, acting as if he just needs to get comfortable; the motion strikes one of your pleasure spots every time though.
You bite your lip, trying to not lose it. If this continued at this rate, you'd be in tears soon, which you really wanted to avoid as they would only make him more merciless.
Regardless of your wishes though, you can feel them starting to bloom in your eyes. Frustration burns like fire in your lungs. You turn your head to look at him again, wanting to try one more time to reason before you fully break down.
That plan goes out the window though when you see this man on his phone. He lounges there, scrolling through whatever without a care in the world.
"Dick!" you cry, a couple tears spilling over your water line.
His eyes flit up to your face just as your arm swings back to swat him. He catches your wrist, amusement pulling at his lips.
"Swinging at me when I'm wounded?" he mocks.
He softens the smallest bit when he sees the tears, bringing his hand up to swipe them away with his thumb. You sniffle at the gesture. Your lip wobbles with the desire to unleash more humiliating noises.
"What're the tears for, pretty girl? You really wanna move that bad?" he croons, dragging the bow of his index finger down your jawline.
You nod, eyes casting down in shame.
Knowing laughter bubbles up from his lips. His finger tilts your chin upwards, forcing you to look into his eyes.
"Let me hear you ask nicely one more time," he says.
You almost crumble on top of him right then, but you can't lose it when you're so close. With a deep inhale, you suck it up and bat your eyes a few times.
"Please?"
He grins at you and taps your hip. "Turn around for me and then go ahead."
Eager as can be, you clamber around and situate yourself so that you're facing him. Your legs quiver. It felt unusual to move after being full and seated for a while. When you're settled, plush thighs pressed against his sculpted sides, you plant your hands on his chest.
You don't waste time before rising up and sinking back down. A strangled moan falls from your lips at the relief. Some of the tension that had webbed up in the pit of your belly begins to loosen as you bounce.
His hands land on your hips, guiding your movements into a steady rhythm. You can tell he's enjoying it too from how he sighs and the way his jaw clenches.
"That's it. Worth the wait?" he asks.
"Mhm," you whimper.
Your ass smacks against his pelvis over and over. The sound of skin on skin fills the bedroom along with your combined grunting and moaning. You roll your hips, getting him as deep as possible. Your spine arches in tandem with your head falling back.
He takes advantage of the view you're giving him, one of his hands rising to grope at your breast. His fingers cradle the mound as the rest of you continues rutting on top of him. He flicks your nipple with his thumb, tearing more mewls from your lips with the bursts of sensation.
"Look at you, going dumb already. You're that needy for me?" he mocks, giving your stiffened bud a little pinch.
You yelp and nod, not bothering to defend yourself.
Your noises increase in volume as you continue to ride. Breathing likens into panting while shudders overcome your body. All of you convulses with each jump of your hips. It's getting harder to keep the pace, but you don't want to admit that. You don't want to prove him right.
It doesn't matter if you want that though because he can tell. He can see your motions getting jerkier. He feels the way your walls tighten around him with abandon.
To try and help you a little, he digs his heels into the mattress and thrusts up. Happy moans echo from you, your lips widening into a smile. He can't help but match the expression. This was his favorite sight in the world, his pretty girl blissed out. Nothing on your mind but him.
Without waiting for you to say the word, he boosts you up and flips you onto your back on the mattress. He springs to his feet beside the bed. Pulling you by your hips, your pelvises meet at the edge, and he takes over thrusting.
His fingers press into your inner thighs as he maintains his grip. He plows into you faster than you had been going on top. Leaning forward, he bends you in half. Your thighs press against your chest. His body heat oozes all over you.
This position lets him slide deeper inside you than before. Each rock of his hips nudges his tip against a spot that makes you cry out. You would be seeing stars if not for the fact that your eyes are rolling back.
"So fucking greedy," he croons, "Always wanting more than you can take."
You whine in protest, hips weakly squirming under the weight of him. Blinking yourself back into focus, you try to conjure words to argue that you could take it. That he's the one who flipped you over.
But all you can muster is a pouty "You're so mean to me."
He laughs in your face before smacking a kiss on your quivering frown. "You love it. Being nice doesn't ever get you so wet," he mocks.
You can't help the way your cunt clenches around him at that, sucking him in further. He hisses in response and presses down on your legs harder. He's as far in you as can be now. Every thrust fills you up just how you like.
"Mhm, there you go. Nice and tight for me, baby," he teases. One of his arms wraps around your leg to thumb at your clit. You squeal at the fiery sensation and writhe against the blankets so much you may get friction burn.
He chuckles and continues speaking. "I'm only mean cause I have to be. If I let you have it your way, I don't think you'd ever get anything done. You're such a little slut. You want my cock all. the. time," he says, punctuating the last three words with particularly brutal thrusts.
Crying out, you nod. You just agree with what he's saying, not really taking in a word of it. As long as he didn't stop, you were content.
He continues slamming himself against you. The bed creaks from his rapid pace.
Your mouth hangs open at this point. Unfiltered sounds come out while he grits his teeth above you. His thumb keeps swirling over your sensitive little bundle of nerves all the while, dragging you closer to the edge.
"Dick!" you wail.
The hand on your clit leaves and clamps over your mouth instead. His forehead comes to rest against yours, his breaths fanning over your face.
"If you get us a noise complaint, you're gonna get used to just sitting on my cock," he says, "I won't go easy on you next time. You can cry all you want to, and it won't change a thing."
Your eyes flutter with lust. He could be so annoying, but fuck, you loved it. You knew Dick wasn't one for idle threats either. He'd have you sit on his lap all full and fidgety for hours if he wanted.
The image is all you need to spur you to the finish line. Your hips buck up against his, shaking violently as they seek out more pleasure.
He feels the way you tighten and release, massaging his shaft and beckoning him to do the same. A few thrusts later he gives in to the temptation. He drains himself inside you. Rope after rope of hot, sticky cum floods into your cunt. His head drops against your neck, silky black locks damp with sweat against your skin.
Both of you finish out with a few more lazy movements. In the afterglow of your passion, he lingers on top of you for a few more moments. His body remains dead weight, melted against your own.
When he finally finds the will to move, he kisses a trail from your shoulder up to your lips. The tender exchange makes the feel of him pulling out more bearable. Maybe he was right, maybe you are a little greedy. You'd just had him for all that time, but you still didn't want it to be over.
Either way, he flops down next to you. The teasing is gone from his eyes for now. His pupils hold a genuine look of adoration similar to the feeling in your chest. It's only a brief eclipse though because his mocking returns as he leans in to nip at your cheek.
"I think you cured me, babe. I'm feeling much better now," he says with his usual cocky smile.

Hey I'm not sure if this is one of yours so feel free to ignore if it's not but justin case, I'd love to see the fallout of honeypot dick and danny after dick reveals that he was just using danny to gather evidence.
Tim remembers the day Danny Crowne came into his life. It was on one of his parents' rare trips home. They were always busy, but they loved him as much as possible. When they allowed themselves to remember about him.
He thinks he was four or five the first time someone uttered the phrase "out of sight, out of mind" around him. Tim believes it had been a nanny, one of the last ones before his parents deemed him old enough to handle things independently.
It took him some time to understand the phraseâhe had to piece it together based on phrases in books since search engines online were not the best thenâbut when he did, Tim thought nothing fit Drake's parenting style more than that.
His dad and mom loved him, but they would get caught up in their work with every new discovery or issue at the company, and their son would fall into the afterthought category. They didn't mean to, and Tim had witnessed his father and mother's guilt when they could resurface long enough to remember that they had a son waiting for them back home.
Even inside the Manor, the Drakes were so used to being in their own rooms, with the doors sealed shut. Rarely would they all sit down and chat, believing if they existed in the same building, that was bonding.
Tim hadn't realized until Danny that he and his parents shared more of a roommate relationship than a family one.
He had tried to understand them when he was younger, as Tim definitely had the same issue. He knew what it was like to enjoy something so much that it took over every aspect of his life. He got so lost in whatever new hobby or interest he had that he forgot to accept the international calls his parents set up.
It crushed him to see the new voicemail blinking on his answering machine, but it's not like he could undo forgetting to sit near the phone since he was busy staring at bugs in the yard. (Tim was really into bugs at one point)
Tim doesn't realize how lonely he is until Danny Crowne randomly appears as the new sole hire for the crumbling Crowne company. A few years after Bruce Wayne took in Richard Grayson, he was taken in from the streets for his advanced mind after Mr. Crowne had stumbled upon him at a school fair or something.
People scoffed at Crowne's pathetic attempt to butter up to Bruce Wayne, especially since only a week after Danny was announced, his father bullied his way into a party invitation for Dick Grayson's birthday event.
He remembered it was supposed to be a birthday party, but the adults treated it like a birthday gala instead. They separated the children into another room full of games and music while they wined and dined in the main hall. It was a big event since Bruce Wayne only hosted three significant events of the season at the time, despite his party animal persona.
To get into a party hosted by Wayne was like getting the golden ticket to Wonka's factory. This also meant that if you were invited, you had to attend as it would ruin your chances of networking and it would also plump your reputation.
Tim's parents knew this very well as they had returned just to go to the event in honor of Dick Grayson, the boy who went from rags to riches. People whispered that he was shaping up to be Bruce's heir, as Bruce had taken him in when he was nine and no wife or other children to speak of.
Dick Grayson, at fourteen, was the gateway to Wayne's wealth and connections. Every teenage girl was told to make him fall in love with him and every boy to befriend him. Tim was no different.
His parents spoke non-stop about Tim needing to endear himself to Dick Grayson, but how could tiny little eight-year-old Tim do so? That was Robin!
He couldn't look at the older boy without becoming flustered, not that his folks knew about Robin.
His parents were in a foul mood because one of their digs was post-pond due to permit issues, and they were forced to attend the gala. They had been so upset that they had not noticed Tim was still strapped in the backseat when they handed the keys to the valet to park the car.
Thankfully, the employee quickly noticed the sleeping child and woke him for the party as he was parking. Tim had been insanely obsessed with NASA back then and had anciently stayed up all night reading about the space program- he hadn't even realized the time until he saw the sunrise behind his curtains.
The valet had walked him to the front door, worried about Tim being separated from his parents, but the young boy had convinced him to let him go to the children's room alone. He was very independent and could handle finding the party for his age group well enough alone.
He just wasn't expecting to take the wrong turn and end up in the main hallway, where the adults were performing their gala. It was slightly intimidating, as Tim had never been in the adult room.
All the elites like to separate the children right at the entrance of their parties- out of sight, out of mind- and he felt so tiny standing in the doorway of the gala.
He had been eight, wearing one of his best suits while clutching a NASA key chain for courage and trying to find his way around the fancy gowns and expensive shoes. That's how Danny had seen him.
The other boy had zeroed in on his keychain, gliding gracefully across the room to Tim's position that belied his roots. It was the first thing Tim noticed about Danny Crowne.
Everything he did was regal.
Despite being the youngest person in the gala attendees' room, he seemed far more respected, like a prince among his subjects. He was also beautiful, with features of nobility that many elites would kill for.
Tim remembered gaping up at him as the gorgeous teenager grinned. "You like space too?"
That was the first time someone older than him had asked about his interests, pulled him to the side, and let Tim ramble on about all the information that cluttered his head. Danny knew more about NASA and space than Tim had been able to find on his own.
The older boy eventually led him back to the children's room and vanished for the rest of the night. Tim's parents told him the following morning that Danny was found taking apart Bruce Wayne's home security, wanting to see the world's most advanced technology up close.
They laughed, dismissing the child, and Tim sat silently as his parents mocked the poor street urchin who thought he could understand what he was ripping apart.
People thought him odd because Danny had started doing that at every event. He was always in a corner, staring intently at some random machinery with a slight craze look in his eye.
His looks, mannerisms, and terminology were at odds with his upbringing, though, as they went against everything people said about him. Tim was enthralled by Danny Crowne's mystery, even when the rest of the elites dismissed himâuntil Danny started making decisions at his adoptive parents' company.
It made sense why the Crownes had adopted him. Danny's mind, talent, and looks were far beyond average. In only a year, his decision-making took the failing company out of the red, and with him spearheading the research and development department, the company broke ground in the technological world like a raging hurricane.
In one year, he regains all the wealth and honor of the crumbling Corwne family name. He was the ideal heir.
Everyone who used to mock him was now scrambling to befriend the rising star, but Danny Crowne kept to himself. He had gotten what he wanted from the various events he attended and was now focused on making his company powerful.
Of course, his adoptive father was still in charge, but everyone knew that Danny had really turned the company around.
His parents were among those who wanted Danny's influence, but they had no way of appealing to him. That is, until Danny's limo passed Tim, who was walking down the street late at night with his expensive camera, and the prodigy had the driver pull over.
Danny had been horrified to find out the little boy who loved NASA just as much as he was left unattended. His parents had scrambled to make up a story about their old nanny having a heart attack, and the company she came from did not send a replacement.
They were unaware that Tim had been left alone, or so they claimed. Tim thought Danny didn't buy it in the least, but the teenager had been happy to babysit him anyway.
Tim figured Danny would be like every other babysitter: He would show him attention for a few hours and then eventually ignore him. Tim just had to wait for him out.
Danny didn't even have his adoptive parents' attention, either. They lived in a different penthouse and called him once a week. Their conversations were stiff, like neither party knew how to converse with each other. If Tim didn't know any better, they didn't even remember they had adopted Danny.
Half the time, Mr. and Mrs. Crowne seemed unaware of their decision-making. Tim wondered if they were taking some substance because no one rapidly went from displeased to agreeable.
The odd thing about Danny, though, was how much he cared about the silliest things. Only a month after Danny became his babysitter, Tim's English class had a mandatory poem-reading event, during which each student wrote a dumb poem about education.
The parents and guardians were all invited to some cookies and refreshments afterward. Tim thought it was stupid for the assignment because it was in the middle of the day. If guests wanted to make it, they would need to ask their bosses for time off from one to three p.m., which smacks of the workday.
He figured he wouldn't be the only kid without someone there because of this, which made him feel a little better about not mentioning it to his parents. They weren't even in the country.
Tim was one of the first kids to read his poems because the class went by alphabetical order of last name; he was supposed to go third. He was sitting on stage in boredom when he heard the bang of the gymnasium doors swinging open.
Danny was standing in his Gotham Academy uniform, huffing and puffing. He locked eyes with the shocked eight-year-old Tim and gave him the warmest smile to every grace on his face. He quickly dodged one of the teachers, who must have realized Danny had walked out of his classes, scurrying to an open chair and waving at Tim the entire time.
Tim's poem was half-assed at best, as he wrote it ten minutes before the event, but Danny had still cheered like it was the second coming of Shakespeare.
After school, Danny took him for ice cream and chatted about how proud he was of him as if he had not received detention for skipping class to go to Tim's little event.
Since then, Tim's goal has been to protect his regal but gentle-hearted big brother. He's always been insanely intelligent for his age, and now that intelligence had a target, something guiding it rather than his mind wandering to whatever new thought appeared.
In his quest to protect Danny, Tim figures out Batman and Robin's identities and finds the location of the Court of Owls headquarters. He maps out the heavy hitters in Gotham's gangs, mafia, most of the Rouge's secret lairs, and their supplies.
Tim quickly discovers Danny's operation to relocate the poor and orphaned children into safer homes. What he was doing was well intended, but there were many risks to trusting the men and women taking child protective laws into their own hands.
All these threats were too big for Tim to handle aloneâwhat if the Talons were told to take Danny out? What if the gangs and mafias thought they could threaten Danny? What if a rouge took him hostage?
Tim realized he needed a plan. He never told Danny any of what he knew. Not the Bats, not the court of owls, not the rouges, and not the tiny group of meta children that Danny had unknowingly saved from the streets and trafficking.
Another thing Danny needed to learn about Tim was that he was really good at hacking into other people's bank accounts. Lex Luther, Oliver Green, Bruce Wayne, and Jack Drake woke one day to find someone had run off with millions.
Those funds were used to hire Tim's two instructors.
"I will not be kind," Lady Shiva told him at the ripe age of nine. She studied him like a bug trapped under glass, and Tim knew he was one to her.
"Neither will I." Henri Ducard sighed, taking a drag from his cigarette. "But I will make sure you are ready."
Tim's training was harsh, but it made him strong enough that the night the court sent their Talons, Tim could dispatch them and capture one to reverse engineer its creation. He reminded the Court that they may be elites, but they were nowhere near the level of gods.
Lady Shiva was so impressed by him that she introduced him to Deadshot, a man who had a soft spot for children after what had happened to his son. Between the two, his combat training made him a very threat, and Henri marveled at his mind.
"I don't think I ever encountered a mind so advanced since...one of my last students. You'll give him a run for his money, boy."
Tim appreciated his mentor's words about his skills but saw no reason to join their world. He didn't want to be the best fighter in the world, nor did he need money. All he wanted was to be Danny's sword and shield in their corner of the world.
He realized that he needed more hands and eyes to do so successfully. To this day, he does not know what Danny was working onâout of respect, he never investigated his brother past his child relocation programâbut he knew that he would support him no matter what.
Danny saved Tim from the sea of darkness he was unaware he was drowning in. The least Tim could do was ensure that Danny's efforts came to fruition.
Turns out he wasn't the only one.
"What can I do to help Danny?" Max demands of Tim when the heir of the Drakes ten. On Max's face are bruises that have only now started to heal. He was taken in by the Parkers the night before after Danny had nearly broken down the door to his old home.
Max had been discovered to have meta powers, ones that let him turn invisible, and his birth parents decided they could beat it out of him. Tim read the file that Danny had stored away in his notebooks.
"Can you fight?" Tim asked, as his new foster parents had discovered the twelve-year-old and relocated him.
"No, but I can learn"
"So can we." A girl, fifteen years old, announced from the group of children that had come to see Danny Crowne in the flesh. Security stopped them before they could see him, but Tim was close enough to give them a hand.
Her name was Heather. She lost her whole family in a fire, where a burn scar edged itself on the lower half of her face and neck. Once, she was a beautiful girl, but the wounds ruined her- or so she was told by people who felt she was dangerous because of them. Too much like Two-Face, they said.
She had been thrown into juvie because there had been no space elsewhere in Gotham's fostering jurisdiction.
It was meant to be temporary. She had gone in at age ten and was now fifteen, only released through Danny Crowne's paid-off guards who had helped her sneak out through the laundry.
Tim studied her, the children grouping behind her, and figured that one didn't become a master without having some students to teach. They became the Ghosts in honor of Danny. Tim had noticed that Danny was really interested in the paranormal, just as much as he was about technological advances, and one of the kids designed their symbol.
A green ghost, flying around a white stylized D so that other Gothamn children would know they were not forgotten even when the Bats and the government turned their backs on them.
"Leader?" Max calls from his computer station. They are deep underground, having taken over the old Court of Owls lair. The day Tim was able to create a weapon that turns the talons back into dead corpses, they had rounded up all the rich court members and erased their memories.
Danny was unaware that Tim stole one of his inventions meant to help the human mind see where he was going between this world and the next thing, and he changed it into a mind wiper.
The Ghost remained neutral in most conflicts, only taking action when someone made a move against Danny, Crowe Corp., or the children of Gotham.
"What is it?"
"Danny wasn't taken." Max's voice is rough with grief. He gestures to the big screen that towers over the city, young adults and children of various ages. Realizing Max was to cast his screen, Tim inclines his head to grant approval.
The screen blinks open to show Officer Black beating Danny on his way to his cell. It looks to be a camera in the hall of the holding cells. Tim's hands curl into fists to see his brother being attacked like that. Someone bites out a swear aimed at Officer Black.
The camera fizzes momentarily before Officer Black flickers to walk away from an empty cell. There are three other unknown men with him, and they are pushing a trash bin. "Someone edited this."
"Yes. I just finished getting it back to its original image." Max types something on his computer, and the video starts over. This time before their eyes, with the image nearly as clear, showcases Danny getting a heavy hit to his head, slamming against the wall with a tump.
He slides to the floor as Black turns away and does not move until a glowing figure rises from where Danny's body is lying. The figure looks alarmingly like Danny but has white hair and green eyes.
It stares down at its hands before it looks at Danny's body in confusion. It rises off the ground, leaving Danny crumbled on the ground of the cell and fades from view.
Officer Black finally looks back, having missed the whole thing before, kneeling and checking Danny's pulse. He doesn't need the officer to shake his head or attempt CPR to know the truth.
Ice runs through his veins as Tim stumbles back into his chair. His choked voice echoes through the room like a bomb setting off.
"Danny's dead."

FOAMING IN THE MOUTH AT THE FIRST CHAPTER!! the way you wrote dick still imagining reader as a small child because thats the only time he remembered them as is SO GOOD. i am living for the angst and desperation in this fic, and i can't to see how each of them react to the situation, especially damian because he and reader have the sane blood. when dick texted reader pretending everything is cool and like he didn't ignore them for thirteen years is a such a good concept. i can only imagine reader screaming on the other side because of opening the message accidentally lol. i cant stop thinking about how the reader's reaction to the text message would be like, finally moving on and healing and then boom! the trauma resurfaces and dick having the audacity to reach out while reader is having a breakdown, confused and scared for what'll happen next. sorry for filling up ur inbox!! i wrote a lot more than i thought oops take care of yourself and remember to takes breaks!!!! <3
reader when the self destructive impulses kicks in because of a family they have long gave up on finally started to notice them the moment they have moved on: đ§
no because dick grayson would infantilize you to the max. not in a "you're a toddler" way but rather he sees you as his innocent baby that he failed to guide and protect. he truly wants you to see him as the same person you view him as years ago, not wanting to be any less in the eyes of his baby bird <3
he'll admit that the things he's done is a shit move, constantly denying you when his entire schedule is flexible for the family but you.
so he should've expected to be blocked, but he just can't stomach it at all that his baby bird didn't even hesitate to cut him off in an instant! it just furthers his protective nature to a t and if it wasn't for damian suddenly appearing by the door, dick would've spiraled into insanity deeper.
what i mean by insanity is; he wouldn't sleep for days tracking you down, then he'll take you away from your wretched home and bring you back rightfully where you belong.
meanwhile, on the other side of gotham, you'd be on the verge of a panic attack, nearly splurging your guts out and trying to calm yourself with relaxation techniques. you quite literally couldn't walk straight without stumbling to the bathroom because holy shit imagine your brother whom you haven't nearly talked to for years suddenly called you! with cryptic messages no less that never implied your family's years of neglect towards you. i would be smashing my phone across the room, to be honest.
the moment he's turned a full yandere, damian would be really deep into the "blood is thicker than water" ideology when it comes to you. he'll apologize to you, glare plastered on his face and all, but compared to the others, his apology sounds so genuine yet condescending at the same time. you both are of the same blood, save for the fact that you share different mothers but that doesn't matterâ he should be the favorite.
not dick, not jason, not tim, or anybody else for that matter. and he'll be shoving it in your face that he's the youngest so you should be obligated to baby him. and even if you dare make a point on how he had called you immature for your age multiple times, damian would find a way to guilt trip you and it would always fucking work. to avoid further spoilers, i wouldn't want to expand on his character traits but damian would be the worst type of pain in the ass, near the levels of dick.

Okay, but, what types of water bottles do the Bats use?
Bruce uses a Yeti. Itâs sturdy, reliable, and hasnât dented once in the past 15 years, which is quite the accomplishment, given how many explosions that thing has been caught in. Back when Dick was like 10 and still Robin, he gifted Bruce the aforementioned Yeti with a sticker that had â#1 Boss!â printed on it. (Itâs been nearly two decades and a day has yet to go by where Bruce doesnât use it). Sometimes, he brings it to Justice League meetings just to throw people off guard.
If you think Dick Grayson doesnât carry around a half-gallon jug of water, then youâre wrong. Itâs bright blue and covered with stickers from all the places heâs traveled (including that one planet from that one mission the Titans refuse to speak about). Bruce has lectured him about the importance of hydration so many times over the years, thatâs itâs ingrained in him to finish at least two refills before going on patrol. He also says âhydrate or die-drateâ and quotes hydration statistics to anyone that tries to ask why he drinks so much water.
Jason is the type of person to have like five boxes of those plastic Ozarka water bottles stacked in his pantry. Damian berates him for his ostentatious use of plastic, but Jason grew up in a world where clean water was never a given. Now, itâs not something he needs to worry aboutâheâs got money, power, influence. But old habits die hard and he canât go to sleep unless he knows he has a reliable source of water somewhere in his safe house.
Tim got a hydroflask back when they were popular in 2019 and just never bothered to upgrade. He doesnât actually keep water in it, through; heâs got a rotating system of Diet Coke, black coffee, Celsius BCAA, and a synthetic energy drink he designed himself (one which Bruce would 100% forbid him from drinking if he knew about it).
Cass⊠drinks water. Itâs just, no one has ever actually seen her with a water bottle, so to speak. Theyâll be on a mission, or patrol, or a stakeout, and a full on plastic cup (usually with some sort of animated character or football team plastered on it) will just materialize out of nowhere. No one knows where she keeps them. No one knows where she even got them.
Steph (plus Barbra) uses a Stanley Cup. Although she first invested in it somewhat ironically, sheâs grown to appreciate its functionality. It fits in her carâs cup holders, itâs easy to carry around when sheâs at school, and she once used it to knock out the Riddler when he tried to abduct her principal at a pep rally. She and Babs both already pre-ordered the purple, LoveShackFancy special addition and guilt tripped Bruce into getting a matching one with them.
Damian uses some weird, eco-friendly water bottle brand that no one has ever heard of. (Itâs expensive, but it comes with a complimentary metal straw, naturally). Dick thinks his seriousness about his carbon footprint is adorable; Jason thinks itâs fun to tease him, so he got him a Bubble Guppies sippy cup as a gag-gift for Earth Day back in 2020. He lost the tip of his left ring finger by the time Bruce and Dick were able to drag Damian off of him.
And then thereâs Alfred. No oneâs actually sure if he needs water in the first place, because no oneâs actually seen him drink anything other than tea. Dick claims that he saw Alfred using one of those green, squeezey Gatorade bottles back when he was still Robin, but no one believes him.

I need Dick and Bruce to have a code word/sentence. Like, Bruce is emotionally constipated, itâs a common fact, but when he first adopted Dick, when he was so desperate to show this kid someone understands and cares and was determined not to mess up but wasnât able to say I love you that readily, he sat dick down and explained how he was feeling and that he did care but wasnât great at expressing it, and so whenever he said âI like this.â This meant spending time with dick, this meant being here, this meant I love you.
And then give me Jason, complaining about how Bruce doesnât care and is a bad father and dick just. Fucking. Snaps. And he tears Jason a new one screaming about how much Bruce loves him and how if he made an effort to forgive and accept Bruceâs apologizes and effort to reconnect he would be happier and canât he see Bruce is trying and loves him.
Dick, who has rarely raised his voice at Jason.
Dick, who feels immense guilt over Jasonâs death.
Dick, who picks Jasonâs side over Bruceâs most of the time.
Dick, who fights with Bruce even more than Jason does.
Dick, who is so fucking sick of his father getting unnecessary shit from someone who is supposed to be his son and understand.
Dick, who lives for the easy moments with his father, waiting for that bit of eye contact, the small smile, the âI like this.â That makes his trip from Bludhaven home all the more worth it.
Dick Grayson-Wayne, Bruce Wayneâs first ward and heir, the man who understands his father even when no one else does.
#sorry but I need dick and Bruce#and I need dick to side with Bruce sometimes#he snaps at Jason#tells him to get his head out of his ass#and actually look at Bruce trying#idk#I just like good dad Bruce Wayne#and need dick to be his biggest defender even against Jason#dick Grayson#Bruce Wayne#Jason Todd#batfam#batman#Batman and Robin#Bruce and dick

Tim Drake HC if he never became robin
(Let's face it, no way he was normal. the brain rot is real)
He was thirteen when Jason died, and he was getting pretty concerned for Bruce, but also getting really off put by the violence becuase batman was never that violent
This pretty much culminates in THE INCIDENT
Tim isn't even taking pictures that night, he had after school detention, and because he knew gotham so well, was decently more muscular then the average person and very fast, he was taking his time
He watches batman almost kill someone. The man will never be able to walk again.
He calls the police, and continues hiding and following Bruce, because something was going on, and lets face it, he didn't really have any plans.
He doesn't know this, but lady shiva is in gotham, and doing the same thing
It turns out theres a villan AND hero intervention going on, where clark may or may not be guilt tripping bruce HARD into getting help
However, before Tim can trail him to the intervention, someone catches his eye
He's not that well dressed, Suit looks nice-ish, but the tie is obviously thrifted, and his watch is a little too good (classic signs of working for a gang, intimidation, spurts of money, clearly not knowing how to spend smart)
Tim decides that this is more important. Plus, what's he going to do tailing batman? Get caught while not even doing anything? No thank you
It turns out that guy worked falcon, and long story short, Tim ends up fighting a bunch of gang members in a wearhouse.
He takes out around half before, Oh lookie there, its batman, and he's rescheduled his intervention till the morning.
Tim is proper injured, a few good bruises and a couple generously bleeding cuts.
Then, because batman is fighting everyone in the warehouse, not just goons, because he doesnât know what Tim is doing there, skewers him to the wall with a batarang.
Tim pretends to be knocked out but is going what the fuck batman inside his head
Shiva, who has been watching this entire encounter, and was very impressed by someone with little to no formal training goes and drops down menacingly from the rafters
She offers to train Tim and he's like sure ;-;
They go back to paris, and just to say, Tim's parents aren't just MIA. They straight up moved out of gotham and keep limated contact with tim, just making sure CPS doesn't get them into legal trouble
Tims fine with that too
So, in paris, Tim and lady shiva are kicking ass. Tim is learning to play dirty but also gains a strict code
He's very clear that he wont kill anyone, and that he believes keeping them alive is a sign of strength. that he wasn't so weak that killing them was his only option
They disagree but eventually Tim's pretty good at combat and Shiva sends him on his marry way (he beats her in a fight by drugging some food she ate four days prior and wouldn't set in until she was testing him)
Tim starts moonlighting league of assassins, just doing whatever really, and finds out the holly shit, Talia had a thing for bruce and his dead hero jason, brought jason back to life, send him and their secret love child to gotham, and also disrespected Ra's
He thinks shes so cool, and decides to drop by gotham, yk go home, throw in a public appearance with his parents, try the new zelda game
TURNS OUT HIS PARENTS DIE ON THE WAY OVER, ON HIS FOURTEENTH BIRTHDAY
What the flip man, says Tim, on live television, reading a text finding out his parents are dead.
He doesn't say what the text was about though, so the people of gotham make a twitter meme about some rando kid at a gala
The whole things kinda a disaster anyway, so its fine (its later known as The Gala of [insert year])
Dick Grayson just got back from traveling (space) and finds out Jason and Dami are alive/exist, and tries hiding in the back, ending up in the same room as Tim
_______________
"Why are you back here?" Dick Grayson asks the black haired kid sitting at the table, playing what looks like a knock off of neopets. "My parents just died." He says sagely, not looking up from his phone. Dick doesn't really know how to respond to that but ask more questions. "How- uh how did they die?"
Black haired kid shrugs.

I'm obsessed with the idea of Bruce sneaking in sweet little moments on Dick's childhood. I haven't gotten around to reading any canon material so idk if this happens at all, but I love to headcanon it anyways.
I love to imagine Bruce, in all his batman glory, seeing a little Dick Grayson terrified after a particularly bad case. It was a double murder of a little kid's parents, and they both knew how that felt. Robin was trying to hide it, of course he was, but once it was over and they were back in the mansion his voice wavered the tiniest bit, just enough for Bruce to catch on. He was the world's greatest detective but still, he took too long to understand what his Robin was feeling. Yes, Dick was great at hiding his emotions and putting on a facade, way too good for any 10 year old, but he should have known better, he should have realised that it was too much for him, too soon. It was the guilt and the compassion, and a bit of his dad senses kicking in, but he told Dick that he was tired, way too tired that day, to go over the mission or their mistakes, and they should call it a day, or perhaps he could read Dick a bedtime story first. Dick laughed, of course, said he was too grown up for it, and if he was the one too tired, then maybe Dick should be reading him a story instead, to which Bruce just replied 'I would love that'. Dick was taken by surprise, but did it anyways, and as Bruce layed down, he held the covers up 'so you can be more comfortable' he said, and after Bruce was drifting and Dick was reluctant to get up, he just held him there and said 'thank you chum'
Or maybe Bruce suggesting they could watch the grinch because Robin said they had to have based that movie on Batman after he refused to skip patrol to watch christmas movies on christmas eve. In truth, he had overheard Dick talking to Alfred about how he used to love christmas in the circus and how everyone would gather around and drink hot cocoa (Bruce didn't have that many people to gather around, but he hoped some quality time with him and Alfred would be enough)
Or maybe the time Dick had come home from Wally's house and his dad had just gotten him this super cool games for his birthday and Bruce said he could buy any game he wanted any time but Dick just said there was no need, and Bruce realised he never really gotten any presents for Dick, and Dick had never asked for anything, so he took time to make him something. It was silly, looking back, because he had never actually made anything except for macaroni pictures in kindergarten, and he had felt a bit embarassed handing Dick the small Batman and Robin plushes - he had a lot of help from Alfred and still, they were only recognizable because of the screaming primary colors on Robin's suit - but Dick took it with a smile that warmed Bruce's heart and wouldn't let go for months.
Yes, Bruce is cold and distant and hard to communicate with, but the late night sneaking into the kitchen without Alfred knowing, or skipping a couple hours of patrol to hear his kid's stories, learning how to speak romani so he could understand Dick better and missing a few days at work to take Dick (and Wally, Dick insisted) on a trip somewhere with the excuse that it was 'good for Robin training to know more places and cultures', those spoke the words he lacked and showed how he loved his son.
#I'm obsessed with Dick and Bruce's relationship if you couldn't tell#I love good parent! Bruce wayne#the other robins got that too#but by then he had already learned how to be a dad#Bruce is trying#he's learning how to be a dad#idk if this is canon or not it's real to me#Alfred is very proud of Bruce#I love them#Dick Grayson#Batman#Bruce Wayne#Robin#Nightwing#batfam#batfamily

So Iâm going to provide Potted Fanon Histories, one character at a time. Putting this all into a single timeline was too messy. If you have additions to give, would love to hear them.
Letâs start with Robin One, DICK GRAYSON.
Dick, 8-12: Haly's Circus. (Exactly who is in the crowd is up for debate. Definitely Bruce. Arguably half of DC at this point)
Dick, 8-12: Dick becomes Robin. Exactly how old Dick is for this varies depending on if the writer wants to think about Tiny Child Dick.
Dick, 14-15: Teen Titans get together. The line up of this Titans may vary but frequently looks far more NTT than Fab Five. Garth for instance is almost certainly not present.
Dick, 18-20: Bruce fires Dick or has a massive fight with him (itâs definitely getting fired, Dick does not quit), usually over Dick being attacked by the Joker. Sometimes over Dick being shot by Two-Face.
Dickâs time as Robin: largely an impenetrable black hole. He and Bruce did everything together, they were the best, etc etc. Dick calls Clark âUncle Clarkâ and Diana âAunt Dianaâ. Only storylines referenced will be sneaking out to try and kill Zucco, and maybe the Hanging Judge with Two-Face.
Dickâs time with the Teen Titans: As likely to just be âremembered highlights of Teen Titans 2003 (cartoon)â as actual comics events, but if they are comics events itâs the highlights of NTT: Trigon, Brother Blood, Judas Contract, plus Snowbirds Donât Fly. Theyâre based in New York. Dickâs closest friendship is with Wally.
Optional teen Dick storyline: âDick was Sladeâs apprentice!â via some horrible mashing of Devin Graysonâs Renegade arc with TT03 (cartoon)âs Red X arc. Dick spent 6 months or so under Sladeâs mental control.
Second optional teen Dick storyline: AU where he was a Talon
Dick, 20: after being fired/fighting with Bruce, Dick becomes Nightwing and moves to Bludhaven immediately. He is either working as a gymnastics teacher or training to become a cop.
Dick, still 20: goes on a ski trip with Jason.
Dick, 21: probably was a relationship with Kory. They broke up. The reasons why are unknown, or implied to be due to Mirage. If youâre really lucky thereâs a joke about the wedding. (yes. Events happen in this listed order)
Dick, 21: in space when Jason dies. Has a guilt complex over this forever.
Dick, mid 20s: tried to kill the Joker at some point. The Joker lived. Little context is given for this other than maybe mentioning that Joker mentioned Jasonâs death. This is the single event that has occurred during the 90s and 2000s between ADITF and UTRH.
Dick, mid 20s: is (probably) a cop. Conflict with Blockbuster, Blockbuster dies, Dick is âraped in the rainâ by Catalina Flores. Whether anyone remembers she is Tarantula is up for debate. This is the single thing Catalina ever does.
Subsequent to this, Dickâs justâŠhanging around Gotham and Bludhaven. Not a single event in Nightwing vol 1 after Nightwing 93 occurs. Heâs around the Batcave helping Bruce track Jason down during Under the Red Hood.
Dick, slightly later mid 20s: becomes Batman while Bruce is dead. Insert preferred flavour of Red Robin 1 angst here. Battle for the Cowl may happen, but if it does the only aspect of it involving Dick was that Dick was reluctant to become Batman.
Dick mid 20s: raises Damian all on his own! They become incredibly close immediately and Damian never bonds properly with Bruce or SHOULD do so, as Dickâs Damianâs real dad.
Dick later 20s: Spyral arc MAY have happened. It was traumatic. Dick is now back as Nightwing.
Dick, currently: Dick has remained Nightwing since either stopping being Batman or since Spyral. No other events have occurred. He lives in Bludhaven, drops in at the Manor constantly and cheerfully teases his brothers. He may have shared custody of Damian and be living at the Manor with him part time.Â
Dick, currently: is in a relationship with pick one - Barbara, Kory or Wally. If in a relationship with Wally, no event in the Flash has ever occurred. Linda who?

"Summer Dreams And Warm Emotions" Dick Grayson x Reader
(A/N:Â Welcome to Part 6 for the soulmate au series for 60s Robin! Just in time for the middle of summer. This goes through the pairâs summer vacation while Reader is staying at the beach outside of Gotham City. These two have a lot on their minds while away from school and each other. Theyâre teenagers, so I wonder whatâs on their mind? Or who?
Honestly, Iâve had notes ready, but started writing after I got back into reading books for fun.
Warnings:Â Some angst. Reader has social anxiety? Fluff. Use of (Y/N). Using the older name of: starfish instead of sea star.(If I left it in there.) Food selection made.
Word Count:Â 10,127 words)
<- Previous
~~~
Salty air of an early afternoon breeze welcomed you through an open window, cleansing the bedroom you were to share with your good friend Charlotte.
What a start of summer vacation! No dark cloud in the sky nor unsavory sights in the house.
Iâd prefer my bed, but this isnât bad at all.
A long way from Gotham City, you were given clarity and space from othersâ loud opinions. Even if those with the loudest preferences traveled with you; the change in scenery preoccupied their thoughts.
Two months of sand, fun, sleep, an no street lights shining in at night, you thought happily as you unpacked your plush Sir Hopps. You had debated with yourself whether or not to bring your small blue and trusted companion along for the trip. There remained a sliver of guilt at considering leaving without him.
Your plush was dear to you. Why stop bringing Sir Hopps along when you had always done so?
The strange duality of change and sameness followed you from Gotham City. An air of familiarity with a scheduled vacation carried spots of reminders of what you left behind. Who you left in the city, with scarcely a well-worded farewell, to ponder on growing relations.
Itâs like nothing happened, but . . . I know whoâs emotions I feel every day now.
The thoughts, knowledge of your soulmate, made you smile unabashedly. You truly happy to know him. Grateful even. Dick Grayson was a friend you held dear to your heart; a hidden gem you were surprised to find.
Parting from him still played in your mind since you left his tight embrace.
Itâs almost like a strange dream. You thought, watching the palm leafs sway outside. Hopefully I wonât have to remind myself itâs real. From school days to beach days.
Stretching your limbs relieved some discomfort from the car ride. Long hours of listening to the radio and conversing excessively was finally behind you. A summer of whatever you pleased lay ahead; restricted to the beach of course. You were a teenager not a bird.
From down the hall, you heard Charlotteâs mother announce gleefully how she was to walk down the beach, eager to see it.
Pushing your luggage to the end of the bed, you quickly changed into sandals. You were not yet ready for a swim, but you definitely wanted to see how the area may have changed.
âYou coming?â Charlotte appeared at the door, all ready changed into her swimwear.
âYeah.â You snatched a hat and left Sir Hopps to test out the bed.
Outdoors, a warm summer day surrounded you. A mixture of various tree species decorated the area around the beach house. Tall grass gave way to well-worn paths; an easy marker to find a popular location.
Happily thrilled to not be at work, Charlotteâs mother led the way over a short wooden bridge. A functional decoration your guardian had made fun of in the past for its lack of grandeur.
Thankfully, for the bridgeâs sake, your guardian had volunteered to sort food into the kitchen. Likely an excuse to do it themselves or make a call to reassure someone of all of your arrival. Perhaps all of the above.
Ahead of you, Charlotte gasped, âPeople are surfing.â
Softly shuffling through the sand, you gazed into the distance and beheld more blue water in sight than people.
âDo you see them?â Charlotte asked and hurried closer to the shoreline.
Uh, you thought as a splash caught your attention.
âWere they far left of the rocks?â You asked, unsure.
âThey were right there.â She urged, stopping before she reached the wet sand.
âIâm sure there will be plenty of time to watch surfers, volleyball players, and the like. We have all summer.â Her mother pointed out with a calm air.
Charlotte does not get the majority of her personality from her mom. You smiled at the thought.
She kicked at the sand and resumed her inspection as someone paddled through the water.
Well, you thought, at least the surfer is okay. Your sandals made prints atop of the sand as you headed to the right. The tide doesnât look high right now.
Not far from sight of your friend, you ventured to the tide pools. A decent sized area with dark rocky surfaces trapping water and hopefully home to some sea creatures. A curious and always surprising spot to visit.
Cautious near slippery rocks and unseen animals, you got a closer look. An enclosed, wondrous little world was there to greet you. Tiny fish dodge any would-be dangers and a starfish clung to the side of a rock. Natural beauty free to see.
A light breeze returned to tickle your skin with fresh air.
You smiled again. You could almost laugh with the emotions overtaking your being. All positive with feeling more free to discover, go your own pace, touch the world, make any expression, and feel alive. The vacation had it all laid out before you. Any day of the week.
A slight flip of warm emotion, familiar, made itself known in your chest.
Lifting your gaze up, you smiled towards the horizon.
I wish Dick could see this place, you thought, hoping he knew you were happy. He could even meet Charlotte. Thatâd be entertaining.
Your thoughts veered back to when you parted ways for the summer break. All mixed emotions and words; you kind of wished you had told Dick more.
Told him, what? You sighed.
Some emotions were nameless and descriptions proved difficult in your mind. Being young meant your future held many learning opportunities. Perhaps experiencing more would aid you in recognizing feelings.
No matter how new and complex your emotions, you knew your soulmate was on your side.
Back inside the stately Wayne Manor, Dick Grayson sat on the end corner of his bed. Calm, thoughtful, and slightly restless. He couldnât concentrate in the living room or even Bruceâs private study.
Routines remained upheld even when the young ward would rather talk to you than memorize another Latin verb.
Dick Graysonâs mind was busy. No book or old toy plane in his room could gain his attention. An unfinished puzzle sat atop of a wooden board in a corner of his bedroom, a firm reminder of who he was missing those early summer days.
The familiar warmth of your voice that made him smile, how your hand fit comfortably with his own when you needed each other, your stories that grabbed his full attention, and hugs he never wanted to end were all cherished memories while you were away on a beach vacation. Without school days, it became difficult to think of anything else with his free time besides Robin duties and a soulmateâs bond.
Too bad that storm showed up, Dick thought. I donât know what else we wouldâve talked about, but it still wouldâve been nice. He glanced down at your essay beside him on his bed. I wonder if theyâd be nervous if I read their essayâwhile they were here.
Dick smiled at the mental image of you sitting in his room while eagerly awaiting his review of your end of year paper.
Exhaling quietly, he leaned back on his hands.
No homework or studying. We didnât get much of that. He thought back to the day you two went out for milkshakes and how he drove you both back to the manor. We had to ask Bruce what we could do. Shaking his head with a smile, he remembered his first outing with you. I donât think Iâd ever had so much fun at a baseball game. Gosh, we barely knew each other then. His face warmed at the thought. At least itâs not all work. We can even have fun in a library!
Again, Dick pictured you in his room. All curious to his belongings and keepsakes. Questions on the tip of your tongue and a thin sweater the prettiest shade of ocean blue.
But his soulmate was not there. Not even a phone call to hear your voice. No number to memorize and a call to tell you that he hoped you were having fun.
Imagining you having a bright grin at some beach, somewhere, could almost mask how much he truly missed being with you.
It didnât always work, especially for a teenager with growing feelings for his soulmate.
What a predicament.
A sliver of cold covered his fingertips.
Being alone made Dick Grayson greatly aware of himself. His breathing and even the feel of his socks were more noticeable. It was quiet, no distractions except for his own mind. His own excited curiosity of what his soulmate could be doing and what could be.
Dick no longer had a nameless shape of a person in mind, he knew you.
They could be doing anything right now, he thought while pulling at the corner of your essay papers. Maybe not anything like singing in front of a crowd or causing trouble.
He sighed.
I could be doing something besides sitting here.
Of course there was the obvious: to read your paper.
The youth had been looking forward to reading your paper since you offered. It had sat in his bedroom for days. Yet he wondered if he should wait, to keep it for a later time; like a surprise treat from you.
He couldnât talk to you or see you during the summer. Your essay was the closest thing to hearing from you. Waiting to read it on a day he particularly missed you could prove to be helpful in the long run.
That all left Dick with two questions:
What was he going to do the rest of the afternoon?
And, how was he going to react when he saw you after summer break?
Heck, Dick thought with a slight twist in his stomach and heat to his cheeks. I hope I donât kiss them in front of Aunt Harriet.
â§Â â§Â â§
Dawn had long since casted its blue-pink dewey glow over the horizon and trees. The earthâs temperature rising and creatures starting their day.
Without a need to rush, you sat down at the dining table with your breakfast.
âDolphins!â Exclaimed your guardian from the front windows.
âWhere?â Charlotteâs voice traveled from one of the bathrooms.
âTheyâre jumping!â
You chuckled into your breakfast as the excited chatter went throughout the beach house.
Again, you had no reason to run around. You had slept in well passed mid morning and did not regret a minute. You needed sleep.
To start a day relatively slow was almost abnormal for you, a teenager with school and social responsibilities.
Itâs definitely a vacation, you thought with a smirk. And no social event for miles. You sat back and stretched your legs. Miles and miles away.
No anxiety with that any time soon.
If there was one time of year both you and your guardian looked forward to it was leaving the city to enjoy a mostly quiet beach. Sure, Gotham City had a beach, but it was incredibly popular by locals and tourists alike. Vacation meant relaxing. Relaxing to its fullest meant time away from the everyday rush.
No work. No projects. Not a morning full of traffic.
â(Y/N),â your guardian walked into the room, wiping their sunglasses with a cloth. âDid you want to see the dolphins?â
âNot right now.â
âTheyâll swim away.â
âItâs okay. They might make a surprise return later.â You smiled playfully. âNever know.â
âNever know,â they repeated. âAny plans today? You remembered to bring a book?â
âI did. Uh⊠I think Iâm going to look for different animals today. Maybe even a stingray when the tide goes out later.â
âAll right, but donât get too close.â
You shook your head immediately.
No way am I touching wildlife!
Knowing you understood, your guardian grabbed their beach bag from a chair and said, âIâm going to join Lauren. If youâre the last one out, can you grab the key?â
âWill do.â
âRemember to put on the sun lotion.â
âI will.â
âAnd please lock the door.â They added as they neared the front door.
âOkay.â You answered. âWhereâd you leave the key?â
â§Â â§Â â§
A beautiful summer morning in the Wayne Manor. Most of the occupants were sitting around the coffee table, each reading, enjoying their time.
Only Dick Grayson read from an original work by someone he knew. Handwritten with purpose and knowledge of how the papers were to be held by his hands. A copy made specifically for him.
Seven sheets of paper, handwriting on both sides, held his curiosity. Edgar Allan Poe: Dark Masterpieces, a descriptive essay written by you. A short journey of three of Poeâs works and how each made you feel.
An interesting read for someone who could sense and feel your emotions. Having words help decipher your feelings was a definite bonus.
Is the poem not suppose to be creepy? Dick wondered as he read on to another page; your descriptions of The Raven making the youth question what he thought of the famous poem.
Each paragraph drew him in. Your words annotated the poemsâ stories of grief, love, and reality. The works of Evening Star and A Dream Within A Dream were new to Dick, yet the familiarity of your words helped form images with understandings wrapped within your detailed emotions written so clearly.
Learning more of you in each sentence surprised Dick.
I sure didnât think an essay would let me know how (Y/N) thinks. What they think about these topics anyway. Dick swallowed and shifted in his seat.
The initial expectation of reading your essay was to see Poeâs work through a different lens. Your writing in front of him gave him much more and Dick wasnât sure he had been properly prepared. Between the talks of struggling with grief, love for something warm, and how people perceive realityâDick knew he had to sit for a good while to think everything over.
I guess everyone has some sort of painful memories and thinks deep on what life means, Dick thought with a dip of cold in his chest, even (Y/N).
Surely, there was nothing to be worried about. It was all about life, the uncomfortable parts.
The Evening Star still confuses me though. Sure itâs warmer than the moonâŠbut⊠Am I missing a metaphor or something?
Running his fingers along the margins, a soft glow of warmth bloomed high in his chest. Your words on the poem made Dick wonder with a glimmer of hope. For your words were a reaction to the poem as well as a glimpse into your heart:Â To love someone more than another, happily and in full acknowledgment, with their bright light of being must be a great shameless joy, familiar or otherwise. Perhaps that is what people seek and imagine with thoughts of their soulmate.
The mention of soulmateâyour mentionâhad him tucking into the couch to cover his smile and whatever happy expression he wore. No logical reason had Dick react in such a way. No other words made him feel happier amidst the essay.
What complex emotions to have for an excitable youth. What a smile to have while thinking of one of his favorite people. His soulmate was quite a person indeed.
â§Â â§Â â§
Air rushed passed your ears and soft sand kicked up behind you. Ahead lay a partially full parking lot.
âHurry!â Charlotte panted from about three paces behind you.
âWe can make it!â You pushed yourself to run faster across hot sand.
âI canât see it!â
âCome on.â
Reaching the edge of the beach, you vaulted yourself over a short concrete wall. A burning texture rubbed onto your bare hand.
âWhoa.â Your feet hit the heated pavement of the parking lot and motivation to move struck you. You took off towards the exit by the street in the distance where a familiar jingle rang out.
Late afternoon sun evaporated most of the standing water from the long thunderstorm that had washed the area for hours. Each step felt hotter than the last. Yet you two pushed onward.
There was a mission in place.
âI can still hear it.â Charlotte said from the other side of a truck as you two progressed. Waves of blonde hair billowed behind her.
Thank goodness, you thought, focusing on your breathing. Coins shook within the small zipper bag in your grasp.
Your feet struck the sidewalk and the path lead you closer to victory. Only half a block to go.
A familiar jingle of a song grew louder. Sunlight reflected off of its source, speakers set atop of a white ice cream truck. The brilliantly mobile store of limited frozen delights.
Sides pinching and feet burning, Charlotte and yourself made it to the end of a relatively short line for frozen sweet treats.
Less than fifteen people in total within a line at a beach was not bad at all. Unless the truck had a low supply of your favorites.
âWhatâŠwas that?â Charlotte huffed, âThree blocks?â
âFelt like,â you coughed, âa little more.â
But we made it. Ha ha!
You were proud of you both. That truck could had taken off if no one eager was around. If you two had merely walked you would surely had missed the opportunity. Neither of you would had heard the song if you two werenât outside looking at the effect the thunderstorm had on the beach.
The hard part was over and treats were hidden only about ten feet away.
Beside you, Charlotte smiled, âAre you going to tell Dick?â
Frowning with every ounce of bewilderment, you asked simply, âWhat?â
âAbout what we did.â
âRunning to catch the ice cream truck?â
âNo. How you leapt over the wall.â She clarified. âDidnât you say heâs an expert in rope climbing at his school?â
âI didnât say âexpertâ.â
âSure.â
Her playful words held back a fraction of her underlying thoughts; how you spoke of your soulmate so graciously and complimentary.
âBut he might be impressed by our athletic prowl-ness.â She nudged your arm with her right one. âHe can hear how exciting you can be. Youâre not all studying and books.â
You shook your head without a quick response. It never was easy to have one when a conversation came unexpectedly.
The two of you took two steps forward.
âIâm serious.â She stated more softly. âShow him how fun you can be. He knows how smart you are. From what youâve told me Dick is one heck of an observant guy. Emotions are one thing, I know, butâŠâ
You two shuffled closer to the truck.
âBut maybe you can help him see thereâs more out there than fancy dinners and school.â
You chuckled. Oh, he knows, you thought.
âAnd I donât mean secretly meeting at the library.â
âOh, no,â you laughed. âNo running between shelves?â
âNot one. Heâs your soulmate. Go out.â
Smile disappearing, you turned to your friend. You were met by an air of stubbornness.
âOut as friends.â You said clearly.
Charlotte gave you a hard look. âFine.â She conceded. âWe should get to meet him before you two catch feelings anyway. Itâs our duty.â
âOur duty?â You repeated.
âAs your friends, we hold the right, duty, and obligation to meet and give judgement to your soulmate. Itâs required.â
âItâs in the friend contract?â Your smile slowly reappeared, egged on by your friendâs deep, genuine care.
âAlways has been. Right after sharing fries.â
Smiles and laughter passed between you both up until you reached the open service window of the ice cream truck.
Finally.
Purchasing two treats each came easily for everyone involved. The two adults back in the beach house would surely be pleased with their surprise favorites.
After thanking the vendor, Charlotte and yourself started the walk back to the beach house.
One Fudge Stix for her and one Strawberry Shortcake for you. A sweet refresh to get you both through more walking.
Balancing a pouch of change and an Italian Ice in one hand and your treat in the other, you glanced up to the sky. Grey clouds dispersing to reveal more of the grey-blue sky.
Earlier in the day, the sky was bright as you all had gone swimming between looking for dolphins, stingray, and fish. It wasnât until later that all of you ran indoors before a large thunderstorm reached the shoreline and drenched the area. You had spent those hours reading on the cool floor indoors.
The tile will feel real good now, you thought. I think Iâve had enough physical exercise today.
Laughing internally, you remembered a phone call you had with Dick weeks ago about running. True to your word, you ran after dessert. Perhaps not cookies in an oven, but ice cream that could had been driven away had given you a lot of motivation to move quickly.
âSorry I bought the last Fudge Stix,â Charlotte said before taking another bite.
âItâs fine.â You managed to reply with your senses fully absorbing strawberry. âThey didnât have any cones either.â
Itâs getting later, so, weâre lucky there were any left, you thought. Still bright out though. Oh! And the storm could have brought a bunch of shells and shark teeth. You passed through the emptying parking lot and considered the time. I could still look tomorrow. But I better focus on this ice cream.
You didnât want it to drip and waste the wonderful taste. With that in mind, you still had to deliver the frozen surprises before it melted completely. An Italian Ice and an Ice Pop ready for the others.
â§Â â§Â â§
In Gotham City, among the moving traffic and popular buildings, Dick Grayson sat in the back of the car with both Bruce Wayne and his Aunt Harriet.
Conversation had settled and with the ever loyal Alfred behind the steering wheel, Dick looked out the window. The quiet and steady hum of the vehicle pushed the youthâs thoughts to be louder.
I should ask (Y/N) if theyâd like to stay for dinner, Dick thought and pictured you at a table. Aunt Harriet wouldnât say no to that. But what would we eat? I donât know what (Y/N)âs favorite meal is. They like desserts. I donât know anyone who doesnât.
Streetlights casted a faint glow even as the sun continued setting. Light reflected off the cityâs many windows.
Gosh, thereâs still so much we donât know about each other. Like, is there a class they donât like? Whereâs the furthest theyâve traveled? Is there an event they wouldnât mind going to?
Sitting quietly, Dick considered the carâs current destination. Dinner, not a special occasion or celebration.
That could be an option, he thought, all of us out to dinner. One day.
The youthâs stomach growled.
At least he didnât have to wait until that one day to eat.
â§Â â§Â â§
A light breeze came in from the beach, an added ingredient to relaxation with the slow sway of the couch swing.
You could fall asleep that way. Still digesting dinner, relaxing beside Charlotte, and enjoying the view. After another day of fun, it was nice. What vacation should feel like.
The horizon spill further into blues as the golden hues disappeared. Each sunset later than the last. Days grew longer as night shortened in the summer. Vacation, like most days, seemed to speed by more every year. So finding space to sit and absorb the moment as it happened was precious. Even more so when you were able to share it with a friend.
Charlotte was someone you had known prior to becoming a teenager. Ever since you two had sat next to one another in a science class, you had been as close as Chip and Dale.
Students who struggle to read a teacherâs handwriting stick together. That was the shared motto for a couple of years.
As of late, the motto was: sleep is gold.
And goodness was it ever! Maybe even better than gold. Sleep was definitely needed and, to you, preferable.
I feel like I can do much more during the day now, you thought. Almost forgot what it felt like to not be busy and tired. Thank goodness for breaks. Thank goodness for a bed!
You smiled to yourself.
Still using her leg to softly move the couch swing, Charlotte inquired in a hushed voice, âHow did you know for certainâabsolutelyâthat Dick Grayson was your soulmate? Minus anyone telling you?â Her gaze was fixed on the sunset.
âUmm. Beside a gut feelingâŠI guess it was between reactions that couldnât be coincidence and kind of just knowing.â
âJust knowing?â
âI donât know,â you shrugged. âLike how you know you like something or know youâre in the right place. Itâs weird, I guess, but not any weirder than feeling someone elseâs emotions.â
âWould it be strange if someone only felt their own emotions?â
âI donât think so. Some peopleââ
âElliot.â
ââcanât tell what most emotions are anyway.â You turned to look at your friend. âDid he say something?â
Charlotte shook her head. âNot to me. Lucy said he was borrowing one of her psychology books.â
A reactive frown formed on your face.
âI know,â she replied. âNot mathematics or architecture? Who knows, maybe you and Dick Grayson got him thinking.â
âMaybe.â
Both of you silently considered the possibility of your mutual friendâs new interest.
It would be neat if Elliot did research soulmates in any capacity, you thought. We could all learn something new.
â§Â â§Â â§
A summer night in the quiet, stately Wayne Manor and all was peaceful.
The Batcave remained dark and the manorâs lights were off. Everything was still.
Young Dick Grayson laid in his bed, awake and thinking of anything but sleep. Preoccupied by events that did and did not happen.
Earlier in the night before his drink of warm milk, as his aunt encouraged, and dental routine, the household had been stargazing. Bruceâs telescope had much use.
Out there, he found himself really wishing you were with him. Between listening to Bruce and gazing at the celestial bodies, Dick imagined what youâd say and do. He pictured you staying warm by his side. Just being happy. Two of you together and studying the night sky.
Dick Grayson smiled and rolled to his side. What a day, he thought. His mind was occupied by curious thoughts once more. From what the night could had looked like to next call on the Batphone to what his soulmate could be doing.
(Y/N) is probably asleep all ready. He tucked his hands underneath his pillow. The soulmate bond within him felt calm from your side.
It was odd for Dick to fully comprehend the situation alongside his feelings. He knew where you were and that you were fine. Yet, unfortunately for him, he wouldnât hear from you. Not too unlike when you were punished unfairly for not attending a lunch. Even so, it would be the longest without hearing from you by far.
But theyâre more than okay. Theyâre happy and havenât been nervous at all. Not that Iâve noticed.
His smile grew picturing you at a beach house your guardian described to his Aunt Harriet. Perhaps you had also looked up into the starry night. Maybe you thought of him while taking a walk along the sand. Perhaps late at night you wondered if he read your essay or if he traveled to Gothamâs beach.
Does (Y/N) think of me often?
Inside, Dick felt sparks of delight in his chest.
Dickâs imagination surged on.
A warm, blue sky afternoon set the scene.
Dick, dressed in his swim trunks and shirt, crept across the white beach towards you. Your attention held by flying seagulls.
âEnjoying the view?â Dick asked with a growing smirk.
You pivoted on the sand with wide eyes and a beaming grin.
Like magnets, you two were instantly embracing and holding on for the longest time.
âYouâre here!â You exclaimed, pulling away slightly. âHow are you?â
âIâm fine.â Then with a small laugh, he asked, âAre you all right?â
The two of you shared a joyous laugh.
Your eyes quickly downcast as you without a doubt sensed his many feelings for you.
Would you be able to decipher them all?
Images slowed and Dickâs imagination ran off the sleepier he became.
Contently, you held his right hand.
Your lips pressed against his cheek. You kissed his other cheek.
Once more you kissed his face and whispered his name.
Fading images dispersed completely as Dick fell asleep with a faint smile on his face.
â§Â â§Â â§
Morning in the Wayne Manor brought warm sunlight into the rooms of the stately home. Birds chirped outdoors and the appearance of the sky hinted at a beautiful summer day.
Dick Grayson surely saw it as one.
The youthful ward had a bounce in his step since hopping out of bed. His mood was not unusual and therefore not questioned.
Hopefully not, Dick thought from his seat in Bruceâs private study. His mind replayed his dream again as he flipped pages in his Latin binder.
The familiar and partially restricted study of the millionaire Bruce Wayne should had been empty. A person who should not know the location of the Batcave should not be near its entrance.
You and Dick had been in there at night instead of keeping Aunt Harriet company.
Trying to keep quiet was difficult when books and papers were everywhere. He didnât know why. Searching through the mess, Dick tried finding your essay to show you he still had it, that he read it.
It wasnât until you walked passed him, did he realize you two shouldnât be in there without Bruce.
Well, he could be.
Forgetting his first intentions, Dick grabbed your hand and held on tightly. He tried to pull you closer.
You were not to be there. Too close to the bust on the desk.
The thought of you in there, close to his secret, was alarming. He was thankful that part was a dream.
The dream version of you was much too interested in the bust for Dickâs liking.
Dick tried steering you away.
Until you turned and your open palm rested on his chest. His anxiousness forgotten. He found himself running his free hand up and down your arm slowly.
Dick sighed into the open binder.
The dream had ended before he could press his lips to your cheek.
Iâm surprised I havenât dreamed of them much before, Dick thought.
âDick?â Bruce Wayneâs voice broke through his wardâs inner most thoughts.
âWhat is it, Bruce?â
âI had asked you a question about the current Latin verbs you have been studying.â Bruce eyed him thoughtfully.
âOh. Iâm sorry, Bruce. I wasâŠremembering something.â
âPerhaps youâre distracted by romantic thoughts.â
Dick didnât reply. Blue eyes downcast to his notes as his cheeks warmed.
Beep Beep
A call on the Batphone!
I have to really focus today, he thought as he rushed to Bruceâs side. I canât let Bruce down.
â§Â â§Â â§
Summer vacation at the beach continued on. Hot days and warm night for you.
Cool air of the bathroom was something to hang on to before heading into the morning light.
Changing into your swim attire, you had a short time to yourself and a sense of peace while everyone had their own schedule. No work or school. Time for your thoughts to wander
Even miles away and days a part, you too had a dream featuring your soulmate.
Your first?
In complete privacy, you smiled.
The dream had been short, but delightfully cute.
You had been sitting on the ottoman in the Wayne Manor and looking through an encyclopedia when Dick sat behind you. Resting his chin on your right shoulder, he asked if youâd wanted to go somewhere.
After pondering over the sweetness of the dream, you couldnât remember where he said.
But that doesnât really matter. It was a dream. I donât need to go anywhere, you thought. But it was cute. Peaceful. Better than those school nightmares.
Better indeed.
After sorting your belongings in your side of the room and leaving Sir Hopps to guard the room, you headed out to the water with Charlotte.
âOH. Itâs always so cold,â Charlotte exclaimed as she stepped ankle-deep into the water.
âBetter than it being hot. Just go and weâll get used to it.â You shuffled further into the small waves faster.
âWe did that yesterday and you fell in.â
âI was fine.â You turned your head to look at her only a moment before rushing passed the breaking waves.
âGood! I might still look into being First Aid certified.â
âGood.â You were far enough out to float comfortably. âThen Willa wonât think itâs strange for me to carry around bandages.â
âItâs a little strange,â she said as she soon joined you, âbut only because weâve needed them. Thatâs why I didnât pack any.â
You laughed.
Sheâs never packed bandages!
âWatch out,â Charlotte started with a smirk, âIâll tell Grayson about your bag of bandages.â
You laughed harder.
âAnd when I see him, Iâll tell him how you love The Monkees.â
âOh, no,â you giggled, unafraid.
Floating about in the undulating water, your laughter settled as Charlotte started humming a theme song.
Between listening to the sound of the waves, your friendsâs humming, and the breeze, you were being lulled into relaxation. Nothing too loud to disturb you.
The world around you appeared calm.
Waves carried you and your hidden worries away.
You closed your eyes, fingers skimming the water. Smooth. It reminded you of how dream you had fixed your soulmateâs hair after he approached you with such gentleness.
âNow, I have to askâŠ,â Charlotte treaded water closer to you. âWhatâs Dick Grayson like as a soulmate?â
âA person?â You looked over at her and caught her playful expression. âHeâs a good friend. Iâve told you that before.â
âI saw that little smile. You thinking about him?â
âI think of other things.â You defended.
âExcept about thirty seconds ago.â
You flicked water at her.
âThatâs true, but that wasnât your thinking-of-cute-animals smile.â
â⊠That raises questions.â You blinked at her. âButâŠum⊠What was I even going to ask?â
Looking around, your gaze surveyed the beach line.
Goodness, whatâs it with her questions? Dickâs personality, soulmates, and repeating questionsâ
âWhy is it that you want me to admit feelings for him?â
Charlotte no doubt knew which him.
âBecause youâve been getting defensive lately.â
âItâs like youâre asking the same questions. You, Lucy, Nathaniel⊠Youâll meet Dick eventually, yah know.â
Quiet settled between you both. Two pairs of eyes staring at the other.
This really is about if I have a crush on Dick or not, you thought sourly. Exhaling slowly, you swam a little closer to shore and glanced at the puffy clouds. I donât think Iâm ready to fully answer that question.
â§Â â§Â â§
One beautiful Wednesday morning in Gotham City, curious shoppers roamed a hat salon.
Harriet Cooper stood thoughtfully as an employee displayed a new decorative hat.
âOh, I just donât know.â Aunt Harriet said as she checked herself wearing the hat in a small mirror.
âI believe the blue one had suited you better,â said Bruce kindly.
Aunt Harriet considered it silently.
All the while the employee excused themselves to fetch the other hat again.
The hats are all so different, thought Dick. I donât see how she can pick one.
Standing quietly and patiently, Dick Grayson viewed the salon as decently busy.
Suddenly, a teenager no older than him walked up to him with a smile.
âHi,â said the teenage boy with light brown hair and a bright shirt. âDick Grayson, right?â
âI am.â
Who is he? Dick thought as he held out his hand.
âIâm Nathaniel. (Y/N)âs friend.â
Surprise and delight came from hearing a familiar name.
Holy coincidence.
âHi. How are you?â
The two shook hands enthusiastically.
âFine.â Nathaniel answered. âItâs good to put a face to the name in person. (Y/N) has spoken highly of you.â
âOh.â Dick smiled. âLikewise. (Y/N) has said how you want to be a movie director.â
He laughed, âOr critic, whichever gets me closer to watching more movies and how theyâre made.â
Dick found his soulmateâs friend easy to talk to. He definitely didnât expect to cross paths with one of your friends by chance.
A hand touched his shoulder. Bruce Wayne.
âAunt Harriet, Bruce,â said Dick, âthis is Nathaniel. One of (Y/N)âs friends from school.â
âIt is so good to meet you.â Aunt Harriet smiled sweetly and genuinely.
âLikewise maâam.â
Stepping forward, Bruce shook hands briefly with your friend and said, âItâs nice to meet you, Nathaniel. May I ask which movies youâre interested in?â
âYes, sir.â He nodded. âMainly documentaries, mysteries, and historical fiction. Anything that has the audience thinking during the film and after.â Nathaniel glanced over to another part of the store for a second then said to Dick, âYouâre welcome to join our group to the movies. We usually go watch something before the start of school. Catch up and all.â
âThatâd be fun. Thank you.â Dick grinned.
âWeâll both have to tell (Y/N) I invited you.â
âRight.â
He looked to the side again and gestured with a hand. âIâm picking out a hat for my mom. Her birthdayâs soon and I have to hide it.â Nathaniel chuckled. âIt was nice meeting each of you.â
âYou too.â
With a nod, your friend walked back to another smiling employee.
âWhat a sweet young man,â Aunt Harriet stated.
Before anyone could reply, the well-dressed employee took their chance to step in with a blue hat from earlier.
The movies. Dick thought with growing excitement. Would all of their friends be there? AndâGOSHâI didnât expect to meet (Y/N)âs friends soon. WellâŠone of them right now. He rubbed his hands together. (Y/N) and I really should talk about it. They are (Y/N)âs friends after all.
A swirling feeling in his gut continued as he considered a future meeting with your friends.
ïżœïżœïżœÂ â§Â â§
âThereâs sand here too.â Charlotte pointed to the edge of the hallway.
âDidnât we just sweep?â You asked, tip-toeing around the small sandy path and entering the bedroom.
âYes, but youâve seen my shoes. Itâll be weeks before I get all the sand out of them toâI swear he didnât have that book before.â
Huh?
You glanced over to see Charlotte pointing at Sir Hopps. Your small blue plush bunny had the Prince Caspian book beside him.
Smiling and heading to your luggage, you decided not to reply.
Charlotte gathered a set of fresh clothes and headed out to the bathroom down the hall.
I can do it now, you thought.
Slipping out a bright, loose leaf paper as quietly as you could, you settled yourself on the floor between the wall and your bed. Time to yourself. A quiet secluded spot to attempt working through developing thoughts and feelings.
You twirled a pen between your fingers.
Being more around Charlotte and talking a little about your soulmate made you wonder a few things. All right, a lot of things were on your mind and thankfully writing them out helped you at least keep track of where your thoughts were headed.
Crush or no crush, heâs my friend. Just a little different. You thought as you scribbled down a question.
What made Dick Grayson different than your other friends?
An important question to revisit.
Sure, you could sense each otherâs emotions, but you knew your friends well enough to know how they felt most times. Observation and all. Maybe it was his large capacity for empathy.
He cares so much! Even for those he would never know. And helpful. You thought briefly of his secret life. Kind of almost unbelievable at this point. Itâs a lot to comprehend and I donât think heâll ever bring it up.
It was probably for the best.
All of that in his heart and weight on Dickâs shoulders. You admired that about him. He acted out of selfless compassion.
Heâs always working on improving. At this point, I really donât think he goes to spend time with his own friends at school. You couldnât help but to frown a bit at that. Robin duties?
Exhaling, you focused on your emotions. Nothing too out there. Thinking of your soulmate as also being Robin the Boy Wonder felt like a fictional story. Thatâs as comfortable as you could get with the fact.
None of my other friends have drastically different activities in school versus at home. Not that I know of.
You elected not to write down any secrets that were not our own. Just in case.
Even with your private writings, you would not risk it. Not him, you could not handle ruining a part of Dickâs life. You would never dare to even leave a mark.
People need him. And Dick always puts others first. Heck, he helped me before we officially met! You thought, leaning back against the bed. We know each other now. Mostly study habits and little things like after school activities.
But you wanted to know more. There was nothing odd about wanting to share more interests with Dick. Nothing strange about hugging your soulmate more than friends youâve had for years.
Being soulmates isâŠlike being connected more. A quick glance out the window and the trees looked to be swaying slowly. Another calm summer day. Just a couple of weeks left of vacation.
Once you were back home in Gotham City, you werenât sure what you and Dick would be up to later in the year. A new school year and holiday seasons were on their way.
âOh,â you said quietly. Pen and paper set aside.
Would we be together during certain holidays? Or are we not close enough for that? Iâm not sure how this works. My guardian might like it. Charlotte and Willa have come over during winter break once. We exchange giftsâOH!
Snatching up the pen, you wrote quickly: When is Dick Graysonâs birthday?
I donât think Iâve missed it. I hope I didnât. Aunt Harriet wouldâve said something. What would I even get him? You were mentally drawing a blank. I have time. Hopefully. I guess Iâll have to ask. If I can hold his hand in public, I can ask him when his birthday is. No big deal.
Despite your thoughts, your stomach still fluttered.
A small worry about finding a perfect birthday gift couldnât be all bad. You wanted to get him something heâd like; of course. Something thatâd make him happy. To smile.
For Dick to smile like when you slid into Aunt Harrietâs car. To see him grin as that time you made a silly face. Or even the joy he had shared while you told a story side by side at a baseball game.
Your mind flickered back to the car ride back home when his knuckles went from red to white and his eyebrows knitted together.
You swallowed as a heaviness settled over your heart.
He really didnât want me to go yet, did he?
Memories of resting your head against his and trying to keep emotions in check for both your sakes could almost be felt. Reliving it tightened your throat.
I guess I mean a lot to him.
It was hardly a guess. Caring and respecting the other was mutual. To holding hands tightly to holding discreetly, there was something left unsaid. A warmth you were growing familiar with.
Dick acted upon it more.
You werenât sure how to react or view your surprise to Dickâs kiss on your cheek and his sweet smile. It was different. New from him.
How it was specifically different and why?
You had no idea where to start. But the heat that rose to your neck and fluttering in your chest hinted at something still developing under each smile. Would you write that down too?
â§Â â§Â â§
Back in the stately Wayne Manor, Dick Grayson sat in the living room with a binder of Latin on his lap.
Sights on paper and mind busying itself with internal images, Dick might as well set his studying aside for the day. He had been brushing up on a few words. Honest, he was.
Until one word switched his train of thoughts and he was able to remember more of another dream he had of his soulmate.
A less frantic dream. One where he was attempting to take you to his room, to show you, but Dick had trouble finding the right door. Confusing as it was, he mainly held your hand to make sure you were still there. Dick didnât want to lose you, even in the manor. Throughout it all, dream-you kept reassuring him everything was fine.
A light comforting warmth settled in his chest. To his annoyance, the fumbling feeling of embarrassment joined in.
I must think of (Y/N) so much that Iâm dreaming about them. Dick figured that was far better than any bad dream about large clams, forgetting homework, or being trapped.
Fingers clenching and relaxing alternately, Dick didnât bother looking at his notes anymore.
âIs everything all right, Dick?â Bruce asked as he set down a textbook.
The youth sighed, âI guess.â
âYou guess?â
âItâs⊠I was thinking about (Y/N)âI was studying, I promise,â he reassured Bruce. âThis sounds ridiculous, but I was thinking of how I think of (Y/N). Well, how often. Some times it feels like a lot.â
âItâs normal to think of others, but you have to be mindful not to let your romantic imagination distract you.â
Dick nodded solemnly.
âYouâre soulmates and you each have responsibilities.â
âI know, but we donât have any examples of people like us together.â Dick spoke more passionately. âNo one to look to. Heck, I never thought much of it when I was a little kid. Now⊠Well some times I barely notice their emotions and other timesâŠâ
âItâs overwhelming.â
âYeah and I think when weâre together itâs easier to feel or itâs more noticeable. I dunno.â He shook his head and leaned further into the couch. âWhat are soulmates supposed to do?â
âBe authentic to yourselves.â
âBut why do we feel each otherâs emotions? Is there a reason? We can help each other, in our own ways.â Dick exhaled and lightly hit the armrest. âBut Iâve worried about them too with nothing I can do.â
Bruce was quiet for a moment, contemplating.
Dick Grayson didnât know what else to say. Too many questions repeating in his mind. A sharp contrast to the silence of the room.
â(Y/N) and yourself have an opportunity to learn what many of us can only theorize or hope to experience. The two of you will be future examples for soulmates who find one another.â
Mixed emotions in the youth settled as an understanding was accepted.
Blue eyes looked to Bruce.
âI still wish there was a book about soulmates.â
Bruce chuckled, âThere are, but Iâm afraid they wonât answer your specific questions.â
âDarn it.â
Bruce rose an eyebrow and added, âYou could write a book yourself.â
And write what?
â§Â â§Â â§
Waves were perfect and picturesque. Rolling onto the shore in a soothing rhythm.
The ideal sounds to listen to as opposed to Charlotte and her older cousin talking to some boys with surfboards.
You werenât quite in the mood to socialize a great deal with strangers. Added the your friendâs eagerness seemed almost forced. So, instead, you took to walking the shoreline barefoot.
Smiling, you watched as the water slowly moved in to tickle your feet. In another second or two, the sand beneath you softened.
I could easily sink into the sand, you thought. Like a little crab. Minus the claws.
You glanced further up the beach to where your guardian and Charlotteâs mom Lauren sat under an umbrella. No doubt they were still switching stations on the portable radio. The pair had been having just as much fun as you and Charlotte.
Thankfully it was that sort of vacation and not a stressful schedule filled one. At least it wasnât boring either.
Dick wouldâve loved seeing all the birds yesterday. Probably wouldâve debated whether or not one was a flamingo⊠Charlotte thought it mightâve been a crane.
Laughter caught your attention. A sudden mixture voiced by the small group that included your friend down the beach. They all seemed friendly together.
A faint coolness filled your stomach and limbs.
Should you had joined them? You werenât about to ask your guardian that.
Dick would talk with them.
You sighed.
Oh, well, you thought and continued your walk. I donât want to intrude on their surfing anyway. The waves are â
A large jolt of surprise hit you like a wall. You barely got a breath in before waves of panic and worry also flooded through your soulmate bond.
Your own spiky anxiety surfaced.
Looking around you quickly, you shuffled across the sand away from the water. You needed to be alone. Out of direct sight from others.
There was a soft thump as you sat upon dry sand. Distanced enough from others, you were a little more free to focus on your breathing than worry about keeping a neutral expression.
You could keep calm for your soulmate. You knew that. It had been done before.
Images in your mind filled with red, green, and yellow of a familiar suit.
You can do this, you thought, but not solely for yourself.
On the beach, unbothered by anyone, you sat for some time thinking of happier thoughts.
Sitting side by side with a smiling Dick Grayson, close and secure. Both of you holding hands while birds flew by.
Heâll be okay. You told yourself repetitively. Heâll be okay.
â§Â â§Â â§
Late evening, back and safe in the Batcave, the caped crusaders exited the Batmobile. Both were relieved to have escaped and foiled Eggheadâs plans.
Stretching his arms, Robin announced tiredly, âBoy, did I work up an appetite.â
âIâm sure Aunt Harriet will have a nutritious meal ready.â
âMmm.â
Robin had no idea which dinner was to be shared up in the manor, but he knew without a doubt heâd clear his plate. Or bowl, depending on the meal.
After sorting everything in the Batcave, lights off and put away, the duo went up the Batpoles.
A long day of crime fighting left Dick Grayson in need of rest too. Not just food was on his mind.
All right, the teenager was thinking of his soulmate again.
Could you blame the excitable youth?
It wasnât as if he was the only one.
âGracious me,â said Aunt Harriet at the dining table, âtoday must have been the warmest yet. I could hardly stay in the garden to tend to the flowers.â
âYeah. The sun was hot enough to fry an egg.â Dick announced over a plate. âOr the hair off my head.â
âWhat?â
His auntâs perplexed expression made Dick realize his slight slip in words.
âOh. Well we could all imagine the great temperatures at a desert in Arizona or the beaches in Florida.â Bruce Wayne changed the direction of the conversation.
âOh. A trip to the beach would have been so refreshing today. Too bad you boys had to attend that meeting.â
âOur responsibilities do come first.â
âWell,â she tilted her head in thought with a soft smile, âI am glad that (Y/N) at least gets to enjoy the sun properly. Oh, but imagine the sunsets theyâve seen on the beach. The sound of the waves.â
Does (Y/N) watch sunsets? Dick wondered to himself.
âIâm sure (Y/N) has many opportunities,â Bruce said before looking to his young ward. âItâs nearly the end of July.â
The youthâs eyes widened and he exclaimed, âHoly time clock. (Y/N) could be back next week.â
âOr earlier.â
For Dick Grayson, both excited and eager, counting down the days until your return started then at dinner. The mere mention of the end of your beach vacation gave him hope for a summer together. Even a short one.
Summer holiday from school appeared long on a calendar, but days went by fast enough. Some times in a blur of other events.
Days without hearing from you and seeing you gave an eerie sense that Dick made everything up in his mind. Everything was as it had been.
But he knew that wasnât the case; you were real. You were his friend and Dick cared about you deeply. He had protected you from Penguinâs goons before he knew your name! He had held your hand to reassure you everything would be fine on numerous occasions. Dick had helped sneak you out of a library. Overwhelmed, he had kissed your cheek. And he missed you.
Dick wanted to hear you laugh again and sit so close to you that he would surely be scolded by his aunt.
They could be back in Gotham any day. Dick thought joyfully and ate the rest of his dinner in gusto.
â§Â â§Â â§
I forgot how loud my family can be, you thought as you walked down to the beach.
Later into the morning, Charlotte and yourself found yourselves listening to all sorts of gossip from your two cousins. The pair had managed to drive out to the beach to stay the night.
The beach house was more crowded and filled with laughter than ever. Hugs had been shared most of the morning.
You hadnât seen your two cousins in months; around the last birthday of an older relation.
A day of relatives roaming the rented home. You and Charlotte were thankful her older cousin had gone days prior for the sake of sleeping arrangements.
âI couldnât sleep hearing those trees move at night,â exclaimed your tallest cousin in blue. âDoesnât it sound like an animal?â
âWeâre sleeping,â replied Charlotte. âHow should we know?â
Smiling, the four of you crossed the wooden bridge in no time.
âThe beach is much quieter than a big city like Gotham, Iâm sure.â Said your second cousin, wearing one of the biggest hats you had ever seen.
âItâs different noises.â You shrugged.
Pulling briefly on their blue shirt, your cousin looked over their shoulder.
No adult guardians in sight.
Your shoulders tensed, knowing general conversations were off the table.
âAll right,â they said grinning. âWeâve been dying to ask for weeks. Did you really find your soulmate!â
Two sets of eyes tried boring into your soul with their intensity. Waiting for your answer wasnât something they could handle for long.
âYeah.â You answered as simply as possible. Letting a small smile form wasnât the end of the world.
âAnd you just ran into each other?â
âNot literallyâŠâ
âBut you knew somehow?â Asked your cousin who adjusted their hat.
âIt was kind of weird, but yeah.â
âWow, (Y/N) has a millionaire as a soulmate. What are the odds?â
You frowned.
Meanwhile, Charlotte bursted out laughing. Her hand holding onto your shoulder for balance.
DickâŠa millionaire? Well some information didnât travel to everyone.
âSomeone said he was.â
âHeâs a ward to the millionaire Bruce Wayne,â you clarified.
âYour guardian must love that.â
You held in a reply.
Abruptly ending her laughter, Charlotte replied firmly, âAt least (Y/N) wonât be completely bored when going to the higher social events in Gotham City. They have their soulmate now too.â
Yeah, you agreed silently.
Over the sandy beach, the four of you stood in an odd circle. Grouped together, but not on the same page.
The tallest of your cousins squinted at you and asked, âYouâre not left alone with him, are you?â
âWhat? NoâŠâ You glanced between your family, attempting to get a read on their emotions.
Why would they ask that? You wondered, Dickâs my friend.
âThatâs good.â They nodded, satisfied.
âBut⊠Why did you ask that? Weâre not dropped off in the woods alone or anything.â
âYouâre both teenagers.â
âSo? Weâre friends not complete strangers.â
âStill.â
If you were confused before, you were bewildered and lost right then.
âHeâs nice and a caring person,â you insisted.
Your cousins regarded each other silently.
Teenagers. Alone? Are they serious right now?
Heat radiated from your jaw and chest as it quickly expanded over your fists.
Voice seconds from cracking, you declared, âHeâs not a bad person and just because weâre soulmates doesnât mean we canât be friends.â
âWe didnât say that.â The cousin holding their hat said immediately.
Charlotte stepped forward, alarmingly calm. âHeâs a millionaireâs ward who spends most of his time learning random things like Latin and world geography. (Y/N) and Dick put school before anything else. Theyâre the perfect study partners. Someone would have to kick them and give an hour lecture before those two would even consider going for a drive alone.â
Again, your cousins exchanged looks.
You felt no closer to knowing what was going on in their brains. Yet you were grateful for Charlotteâs help.
Your increasing heart beat didnât help your train of thought.
âWait. Youâre not secretly dating him? Your soulmate.â
âNo.â You gestured widely and asked sharply, âWhy is that the first thing people go to? There are other things. LikeâŠjust living more comfortably with someone who actually knows how you feel. Someone to be honest with, without pressure of trying to figure out if you unintentionally made someone mad or if they had a bad day.â Chest heaving, your words stopped.
âSorry.â
And just like that the conversation was dropped.
You were relieved it was over. Questions and assumptions could go so far before they hit a nerve.
A walk around the beach soon ended as well. The group of teenagers headed back indoors to take a break from sunlight and awkward chatter.
Door partially shut, you sat beside Sir Hopps on the edge of the bed. From there you could hear the others singing along to an Elvis movie.
You werenât in the mood. Earlier you would had been, but not after the short interrogation from your cousins. A sour turn on the day.
Again, you had turned to writing. Your notes formatted into a letter for Dick Grayson full of details you wanted to tell him. Even with the letters addressed to your soulmate, you were the only one who knew of the lettersâ existence. For that, you were satisfied. This one would join the others hidden in your bedroom back home.
Writing letters helped sort some thoughts. Your cousinsâ choice of words among them. It annoyingly repeated in your mind.
You figured there were an amount of people, you didnât know how many, who thought soulmates were immediately romantic.
How fast did people want to go? You shouldnât force anything. You frowned while glancing at the wall. Is that why people really talked about me and Dick more? Because weâre young? Because teenagers are known for sports, school, loud music, and late night dates?
If you were home, you would had resulted in screaming into your pillow as a last resort to get out the dayâs frustrations.
Okay. Breathe, you thought. Uncomfortable heat had already returned to your hands. Itâs just odd. Thatâs all. People are just being weird for thinking two people who know nothing of one another should run off to an empty room and kiss. This isnât a movie!
You blinked and twirled the pen around.
What movies have they been watching? You werenât quite sure you actually wanted to know.
Squeals came form the living room. Happy movie watchers.
Mind trained on calming yourself, you thought, a soulmate is a stranger when first meeting and only then an acquaintance after that. A trusted acquaintance hopefully for most. Emotions give everything away. Unless someone canât tell the difference between them all, I guess.
Logical words for a rightly emotional teenager. Much was already on your shoulders.
Being a teenager came with many changes, challenges, and lessons. Navigating what people thought about you and your soulmate added questions to your still developing mind. Doubts was something you didnât want.
Some times it was too much. Peopleâs opinions and unsolicited advice were striking even if they were spoken evenly.
Must it always be what others think? You wondered as you folded the paper into your luggage. Theyâre not me and they donât know Dick. Some donât know their soulmate. You glanced over to Sir Hopps, quiet and reserved. Why do they speak the loudest about us and how we should be? Always other peopleâŠ
You placed your hand over your heart. A steady rhythm felt under your open palm.
What does being soulmates mean to me?
Best wishes and happy reading.)
The Grayson was not the only one who was destined for the Courts Machinations
The Drakes long since had been lower owls. Janet being the only one to truly rise by offering one thing
The child of her womb. One that would have clubs in the afternoon of disguised training. A experiment on a aware Talon who would not just be a weapon. But the eyes and mind sharp enough to tear apart the Rats of Gotham.
Tim spent his days unaware, alone except for his aloof tutors and many checkups by doctors for his chronic illness. He personally thought he was just Meta with his more bird-like tendencies.
His nights spent following the Bats and birds and taking beautiful pictures of his muses in action. nights spent reading books of the history and myths about his city. His parents always did encourage his photography of the scenery and people of Gotham.
Then a Robin lay dead. Batman cruel and cold. Dick Grayson staring at his golden blue eyes with sorrow and confusion of why a child would choose to do something like this. why Tim Drake would attempt to be the reins of The Bat.
The story continues like usual, his cold chest warm from the praise he got from Lady Shiva during his accidental training with her. His smile bright with each case and villain take down.
Bruce was aware that his new bird was unusual, but the court had not shown up yet. So he accepted the clawed boy who's eyes sees what most couldn't. How the bruises and scratches faded within a hour. How he could already move in almost inhuman ways only for Dick to cackle and show Tim how to more.
He didn't dare get close. He never wanted another Robin, dead child, son or Vigilante within his crusade.
He regrets that the night The Drake family Dies. Tim being taken on a trip with his parents finally, a expedition to a Athens temple. Janet Drake being the only survivor but laying in a Coma funded by Bruce Wayne out of guilt.
He regrets that when he sees the heartbreak of the two Supers who hear Tim's heart stop. He regrets when he sees how much Tim was important to so many hero's.
Talon Drake is Always Awake when frozen. He Remembers it all.
Hello! I just saw your Matriarch post! Can you possibly do a prologue about her backstory and her going to the other dimension with a batfamily and batmom that are still alive and together? And possibly a part 1 where she just walks into the Batcave one night after she sends out an all-call to the bats and the league and once they all start questioning what is going on she comes out and tells them about her backstory and how she'll prevent her future from happening by offing the rogues one by one and saying something like "I'm the only one who could ever succeed in doing this. And do you know why... it's because I know exactly how each and every hero and villain alike think. I know every plan and protocol in place that both sides of the gallery (i.e. meaning the heroic side and villainous side) have in place, how to stop or outsmart them, and every single possible move any of you could make against me. If you think you can stop your wife, mother, friend, or whatever else I am to you, then by all means... I invite you all to play my game, if you can capture me AND discover my plan, then I'll stop for good and go back to my time. But should I be victorious, well, the world and all of you are MINE."
Sorry for it being so long! And for the long monologue!
[Damn, that is good!!]
[Matriarch Au]
Notes.
In this au (Y/N) pretends to be a hero for the public sake. A part-timer of the league in the future.
Bruce doesn't know (but has suspicion) she is killing or torturing almost half of his rouge gallery.
She's afraid that Bruce won't love her become of his no-killing code.
There's technically a "(Y/N)" in this timeline who meets Bruce and falls in love. But, The Matriarch technically killed her before she could meet Bruce.
But here's another question. How does this (Y/N) interact with the Batfamily?
Since (Y/N) knows of each horrible thing that has happened to her children and lover. Batmom is very protective then most other Batmoms.
She still wants to give her children freedom, but also knows that when she did... They were beaten or almost killed for the sake of protecting others.
Batmom decided to mess with this world's timeline so it would be better than her own. But still deliberately decided to let some things stay the same.
1st Example, Dick Grayson. Now depending if Batmom came around before Dicks parents demise is up to you. But in this instance where she did, Batmom would try to save his parents but it doesn't work out.
2nd would be Jason, this is where it gets kinda fucked up.
Batmom is a very caring individual but Matriarch isn't.
Batmom would do whatever she can to make sure Jason will never know of his mother being alive. Batmom will even go out of her way to guilt-trip Jason and emotionally manipulate him. To the point where he doesn't care if his real mother is alive or dead.
But, if Jason does end up curious and decides to find his mother. Aw hell he ain't gonna be free from Batmoms protection. Including Matriarch.
Batmom will get Bruce on her side to not let Jason out of the house or better yet city to look for his mother. It will take a lot of convincing and emotional manipulation part two. Anything regarding Jason's mother or possibly anyone close to bearing resemblance is wiped from the Bat-computer database.
If Jason managed to find a way to convince Batmom or escape Gotham. You are three steps ahead as Batmom or Matriarch.
The only way Jason could even wind up dead is if Batmom was a second too late.
From that point on if that happens, it'll be a much worse for the latter members and friends of the Batfam.
(Y/N) has and will install trackers on everything and anyone. Your always listening, always alert.
You'll put on the facade sure, but the truth of it all is that.. You're no longer just "scared". No you're terrified, to the point you have the smallest threat or villain is your biggest enemy.
-
[I'll write more for Batmom/Yandere/Villain reader! I swear! If you guys want more let me know, I still gotta describe how Matriarch Au deals with villains.]
[Maybe even write a angst dead dove do not eat fic later hopefully. Thank you for reading!]
Hi!
You can ignore this ask if you want!
Honestly as I was writing one ask another popped up in my mind đ„čso I decided to do two ask instead of one so I didn't spam your inbox haha!
Also sorry for bothering you with these ideas.
What would platonic yandere Dick Grayson do for the readers birthday? Would he invite anyone that he is close to or even trust or would it just be him and reader sharing a cake as he sings happy birthday to them? And also maybe gives them a lot of presents but they are kind of childish if that makes sense.
The other ask would be what would again platonic yandere Dick Grayson do if by some chance the reader escaped from him? Would he freak out for a bit and than promptly go and look for them? And once he finds them he's furious and the reader is scared because they have never seen him that angry or show that type of emotion before?
Again you can ignore this if you want I know I wrote a lot I was just so excited and the ideas popped into my head!
LOVE ALL THE WORKS YOU'VE DONE!
HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY OR NIGHT!! â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
đđđđđđđđđ đđđ đđđđđđđđâŠ
!!! GN reader, infantilizing, mentions of kidnapping, handcuffs, forced-affection, pissed off Dick Grayson, brief mention of drugging, reader fears being hit for a second.
(ANON, I LOVE REPEAT OFFENDERS IN MY INBOX. DONâT YOU DARE FEEL BAD FOR FEEDING ME ASKS. IâM HUNGRYYYYYYYYYYYY.)
Birthday parties depend on how compliant you are. If youâre not trying to escape every other day, heâd gladly invite some of the Titans over to celebrate! He likes showing off his cool hero connections to you â even going as far as to play the âoh, Superman? His mother makes the best apple pieâ card â so this would be a good way to live up to the hype. A lot of the party would be spent taking on your behalf, however. He just thinks he knows you that well (and he doesnât want you to form a connection with anyone else; heâs the only one you need in your life!!). I can also see him laying down ground rules to the other Titans beforehand, practically threatening them to be on their best behavior. Big brotherâs friends must be good role models to his young and impressionable sibling!!
Now, I already said that it depends on how compliant you are, but it also depends on what your situation is, too. I lowkey kinda imagine all of the platonic Dick Grayson asks to take place in the same universe as Life With Older Brother, which means everyone knows youâre under Dickâs care, and itâs pretty much the only scenario where inviting people to your birthday would work. But if you were kidnapped, it would be a different story. Heâs not risking anyone finding out about you (which complicates his relationship with a very young Tim Drake, who would totally accidentally stumble upon you in the apartment, but thatâs a story for another day), so even if you were very complacent, I donât see him inviting anyone over.
Back to the Life With Older Brother universe, if you âmisbehaveâ a lot, it would just be the two of you. Heâd almost hold it over your head, sadly sighing as he says things like, âit wouldâve been a bigger party this year, but only good little siblings get big birthday parties.â If you were a fucking child, maybe this dumb guilt-tripping tactics would actually work. If you try to cut your two-person party short by spending the rest of the day in your room, heâs not above wrestling you into his lap â or even handcuffing you to the kitchen table â so you can open your presents; and holy shit, thereâs a lot of them. I can definitely see him getting you childish things, ranging from toys to innocent-looking kiddy clothes. Any gifts sent by Bruce are taken back to the store for return.
As for escapingâŠ
Thereâs no way youâd manage to pull-off an escape while heâs in the apartment, so itâd be a nasty surprise for him when he returns from patrol. Heâd frantically tear the place apart in search of you, his stomach dropping as he finds the clues of your apparent escape. Once he checks the security feed, he feels equal parts worried, heartbroken, and angry that you took it upon yourself to leave him. You really donât know whatâs good for you, do you?! Youâd rather run around on dangerous streets than stay with your kind, loving, doting older brotherâŠ
His search probably wouldnât take long. I can see him putting a tracker in your arm at some point, so itâs as simple as following the little red dot on his device. Relief washes over him when he sees youâre alright, but that does little to quell the betrayal rage he feels. Heâs silently swoop down from above, forcefully picking you up from behind as he grapples back towards the apartment. Youâd kick and thrash, plead and beg, but thereâs nothing but radio silence on his end. The only inkling of a reaction you get is his tight frown and his extremely restrictive arm around your abdomen. Dread washes over your chest as you realize just how fucked you are.
Upon returning home, he practically throws you against his bed and spares no time handcuffing you to the headboard. Any sort of apologies you try to muster out immediately die on your tongue as he rips off his mask, his piercing blue eyes filled with an icy rage youâve never seen before. It makes you want to curl into a little ball and wish you were never born.
âI donât know what to do with you,â heâd lowly mutter, exasperation sprinkled between the gaps of his anger. Thereâs a moment where you think heâs going to start one of his signature lectures, but no such thing happens. Instead, he turns to the wall and punches it, causing you to flinch at the impact. Never has he shown this type of aggression in front of you. Heâs yelled at you, sure, but physically punched something?
For the first time, you found yourself worrying if heâd put his hands on you.
I think heâd have to convince himself to cool off for a bit. First triple-checking that you couldnât escape (possibly imposing more precautions like double restraints or the IV), heâd leave the apartment for another patrol, taking his anger out on any poor criminal he comes across. Iâd say it takes an hour before he feels level-headed enough to come back home, his suit speckled with blood from viscous beat-down after viscous beat-down. Itâs the first thing you notice when he comes through his bedroom window, causing your heart rate to pick up.
He wants so desperately to scream at you; he needs to get it through your thick skull that youâre safe here, and heâs the only one in the world who knows how to care for you and protect you. But that will come later. Right now, all he wants to do is bring you into a longing and desperate hug, not even taking the time to change out of his Nightwing suit beforehand.
Youâd be held against him for a while, his trembling hands making sure you have no chance of squirming out of his hold. It may be suffocating, but at the very least, it quells your fears of him taking his anger out on you.
