Poison list (2)
Hello, it's me again! After some feedback on my previous potion list post, I decided to research a little more about potions and come up with this post. I hope everyone will like it!
1. Poison Ivy
I think anyone who has watched Batman will know the female supervillain Poison Ivy. I thought it was a name she came up with until I found the Poison Ivy plant online, lol.
Eastern poison ivy is typically a hairy, ropelike vine with three shiny green leaves budding from one small stem. The leaves may be red in the fall.
Western poison ivy is typically a low shrub with three leaves. In the East, Midwest, and South, it grows as a vine.
It may have yellow or green flowers and white to green-yellow or amber berries.
It has an oily sap in its leaves called urushiol. This causes an allergic reaction that can make your skin red, swollen, and itchy.
2. Poison Oak
It is typically, a shrub with leaves of three, like poison ivy. The sun-facing side of the leaf has tiny hairs on it and is a darker shade of green than the ground-facing side.
Pacific poison oak may be vine-like.
Though it grows all over the country, it’s more common in the West.
It could be hours or days before your skin reacts to the plant sap (urushiol). And your rash may eventually turn bumpy and form blisters that ooze.
3. White Snakeroot
A North American herb with flat-topped clusters of small white flowers and contains a toxic alcohol known as trematol.
Generally found in woods and along streams. It is not often found on open prairies because it does not do well in full sunlight. The plant will grow 1 to 3 feet in height and will have thin smooth leaves with toothed margins.
The poisonous effects in livestock usually result from direct consumption of the white snakeroot plants. In humans, poisoning can be caused by consumption of dairy products from cows that have eaten white snakeroot.
4. Rosary Pea
Also called jequirity beans, these piously-named seeds contain abrin, an extremely deadly ribosome-inhibiting protein.
Rosary peas are native to tropical areas and are often used in jewelry and prayer rosaries. While the seeds are not poisonous if intact, seeds that are scratched, broken, or chewed can be lethal.
It only takes 3 micrograms of abrin to kill an adult, less than the amount of poison in one seed. It is said that numerous jewelry makers have been made ill or died after accidentally pricking their fingers while working with the seeds.
Abrin in rosary pea prevents protein synthesis within cells and can cause organ failure within four days.
5. Foxglove
Its bell-shaped flowers are often bright purple but can be white, yellow, or pink. It blooms in the spring. It also has a fruit with lots of seeds, which kids sometimes eat.
All parts of the flower are poisonous and can slow or disrupt your heart.
In fact, digitalis (a heart medicine) is derived from this plant. When formulated into a medication with a controlled dosage, digitalis is valuable in treating heart failure. It helps a weakened heart pump harder.
People who eat any part of the plant or make tea from the leaves are, in essence, taking an unregulated dose of heart medicine. This can cause the heart rate to slow down or become irregular. Both can be dangerous and life threatening.
6. Mistletoe
This plant lives off of other trees and shrubs, which makes it a parasite. Its stems are thick and easy to break, with lots of branches. The leaves are often thick and stay green all year. Its little yellowish flowers don’t have petals. The small, white berries have one seed and contain a sticky, poisonous pulp.
The berries can give you diarrhea and slow or stop your heart.
All parts of American mistletoe contain a toxic protein called phoratoxin, while European mistletoe contains viscotoxins, which prevent new cells from forming.
7. Oleander
Oleander (Nerium oleander) is a common ornamental evergreen shrub.
All parts of the oleander plant are deadly and contain lethal cardiac glycosides known as oleandrin and neriine.
If eaten, oleander can cause vomiting, diarrhea, erratic pulse, seizures, coma, and death, and contact with the leaves and sap is known to be a skin irritant to some people.
The plant is very bitter.
That's all!

THTH 1
Warnings: non/dubcon, and other dark elements. My username actually says you never asked for any of this.
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
Characters: Ransom Drysdale
Summary: You have a secret, but what do you do when it threatens to come out.
Part of the Backwoods AU
As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging.
“Ugh, goddamn it,” you hiss as you reach your phone to the sky. The signal is shit around here. You watch the little circle, waiting for a check mark to appear; nothing.
Three days. The bandwidth has been in and out for three days and you haven’t been able to upload a single thing. Not even a message. This is dumb. You growl at your phone and toss it on your bed. It bounces and hits the wall.
You huff and cross your arms. It’s not fair. Those three days could’ve made you money. You can’t even leech off the library wifi because of the content filters. So ridiculous. You’re just trying to make a living.
A tap comes at the door and you flinch. You quickly scoop up your phone and go to the door. You tuck it in your back pocket and pull your shirt down to cover the top. You open the door and peek out at your mom.
“Everything okay?” She asks.
“Uh, yep, just dropped something.”
“Oh, nothing broke, I hope.”
“All good,” you smile. She chews her lip anxiously, as she often does. “I’ll be down for dinner soon. Smells good.”
“Alright,” she says, “it’s almost done. Your favourite; spaghetti and meatballs.”
“Mmm, awesome.”
You shut the door and roll your eyes. Spaghetti isn’t your favourite. It’s what she says is your favourite. Just like everything else, it has to fit within her rules. If she says you like yellow, well then, you like yellow. It isn’t worth the argument to have a personality.
You take out the phone again. You nearly squeal as the check mark turns green. It sent! Just a text post notifying your few followers of the unexpected technical difficulties. You’ll be fortunate if they don’t bleed off to the other girls. When there’s so much variety, you can’t expect horny men not to hop on the next page with a pretty girl in lacy underwear…or less.
You scroll down but the rest of the posts show the blank blocks, pulsing as they struggle to load. You check the menu. Signal’s gone again. Welp, at least that went through.
You go to your bed and hide your phone under the mattress. Your parents know about your laptop, that’s your alibi. You tell them you do transcription work online. That doesn’t pay enough so you have the secret phone for your real business; you.
It isn’t exactly a career but it’s a means to an end. You’ll save up enough and be out of Hammer Ford in no time. You’re almost twenty and running out of time. A gap year is expected, but two? That’s sad.
Besides, you’re done with this life. You need out of this house. You are an adult. Your parents can’t make you eat your peas or ban you from the romance section in the library. One day, hopefully soon, you’ll be free.
For now, you’re going to go downstairs and pretend your mother’s spaghetti and meatballs isn’t complete mush.
📱
Days pass as you stare helplessly at the flashing bars in the corner of your phone. Damn phone company. The data plan was supposed to be a backup, even if you could only afford the cheapest vendor on the market. You at least thought it would work!
You manage to get a decent signal up on Thunder Lane by the hotel. It might be worth it to just walk in and get their wifi. You don’t think they’d care much. There aren’t many guests passing through now, are there?
The only benefit of your forced break is how much time it gave you to create new content. You choose the set of photos you took with the bunny ears and the barely there white teddy. You quickly flick through the settings and set the paywall. At least you’ll have money coming in before…
Yep, no internet. You’re lucky even that went through. You roll your eyes and hop back in the family oldsmobile. Your mother doesn’t let you have it often but you told her you were going for coffee and would fill up the tank.
As you roll up to the sleepy main row of Hammer Ford, your phone vibes. You quickly put it back to silent and check the notification. Your data’s flickering as you see the first response to your post. That was quick. Turns out someone did miss you.
_ransom_ware commented: ‘welcome back, bunny’.
You tap on the bubble but the app won’t load. Damnit! At least you have automatic deposit enabled. His tip will hit your account in a couple days.
You get out of the car and cross the street to the bakery. You could butter your mom up with some tarts, maybe convince her to let you take the car into the city. That might be your best chance at catching up. You could schedule posts and not have to fight with the damn countryside desolation.
As you enter the bakery, it’s quiet. There’s one person at a table. You don’t recognise him. He has his back to you so you don’t think much of it. Probably just another lumber worker sating their repressed sweet tooth. Although, he is dressed a bit too nice for that. No plaid or denim? Huh.
You go up to the counter and order a half-dozen cherry tarts and a latte. You pay with the secret credit card you use for your online transactions and thank the girl behind the counter. As you turn, you find the man at the table turned in his seat. He glances at you as you carry out the tray of tarts and coffee.
You’re used to the stares. The men in Hammer Ford aren’t exactly subtle and your nights at The Horn have earned you a reputation, though those stories don’t make it past your front door. It’s just a little fun, you have a pint and tie your shirt above your belly button and dance. Nothing serious.
Your mom and dad are too chaste and pious to ever wander into the bar. It’s your escape, your safe space. Just for now. Just until you can get out of this hell hole.

Illusion of choice
Serial killer!Simon Riley x reader
(Warnings: death mention and Simon's lack of care for said death. Implied drink tampering. Simon is a little intense. (Let me know if more are needed). Reader sees red flags and promptly ignores them.)
(This isn't like chapter one or anything it's just a snapshot of something that went down in this universe) not proofread, you know the drill
"You love that you gave Simon a chance and became his friend. He's become one of the most important people in your life. So when you ignore the bad feeling you get around him sometimes, you just hope it won't come back to bite you (it will. He will too)"
“Tony Swalts, you don't go near him. He haunts the alley next to the pub. Every Thursday, like clockwork. Always looks like he just came in from the rain.” Simon says, takes a sip of water, and continues eating.
You look up mid chew and eye the man across from you.
He's maskless, hardly ever wears it around you anymore. You watch as his scarred jaw moves, chewing into the meat - deer you think? You stopped asking what it was, he's never fed you less than the best so why bother worrying.(you feel bad for worrying, but sometimes, sometimes-)
His eyes, dark and empty, stare at his plate. He's a dispassionate eater save for the few hums of contentment you get on a particularly good meal. Nowadays, he lets you help make the meals - will even indulge you and try any new recipes you find online.
He's fine with you seasoning and marinating, less so when it comes to cutting and handling hot items. ‘leave the knife work to me lamb, best that way’ he says ‘no use burning yourself, give me the pot’ he urges. You think it's his nice way of calling you a hazard.
(You don't bother trying to correct him, he gives you that stupid look - his ‘lieutenant stare’ is what you call it. You crumble under it quickly, like you imagine any of his subordinates had.)
You nudge a bit of pea around your plate.
Open your mouth to speak.
Go back to the pea.
Roll your shoulders and feel your mouth form around the first syllable.
Back to the pea again.
You nudge too hard and it smears a baby barf green against the white ceramic of the plate.
“Wh-why? I. I mean I'm not looking to make any new friends or, anything. But…why?” You pick a new non smashed pea to toy with, eyes downcast.
Your leg twitches when you hear his fork gently clack against the wood of his table.
You feel the lieutenant stare, you ignore it - but you feel your face heat up under the weight of his gaze.
He doesn't get. Mad. At Least not at you. You know that, but you brace for it anyway. It's just what you're used to. He's mumbled about breaking you of that habit a few times, like you're some unruly puppy with an interest in chewing furniture.
“Don't. Think I should get into it. It'll do more harm than good. Smells like fish , if you really need a reason to avoid him.” His vague answer is what does more harm than good, now more curious and nervous than ever. But you will keep the fish thing in mind, your nose is sensitive.
“Well. Uhm. Thats not great to hear. I'm actually more worried than I was before I asked.” You accidentally smush another pea. “Shoulda just kept my mouth shut…” you mumble. You've eaten enough, more than enough you think - you're about to ask him for a Tupperware when he speaks again.
You're expecting this to be the end of the conversation. But he surprises you by elaborating, “Some birds have had….less than nice things to say about him. And he has done….less than nice things to them and anything he can Leer over.” he grabs a napkin, sets it near you, grabs another and wipes his face clean. “Don't want him thinking you're next.” he tacks on.
You mirror him gently, making sure to get your fingers too.
“Just. Keep away from him, yea? Not like it'll be hard. Fucker like him? He's bound to get what's coming to him.” He assures.
He rises with his plate, and you go to do the same but he presses you down by your shoulder.
“Few more bites, you skipped breakfast - you did, I know you did - hardly ate any of dinner, too busy playing with it. “
he squeezes your shoulder, gives a quick rub to your back, and then goes to place his dishes in the sink. You shovel a few quick spoonfuls of pea into your mouth, washing them down with a gulp of water. Your stomach turns but he is right about having skipped breakfast. You don't dwell on how he knows, just accept that he does.
You remember that Tony spoke to you once, just once. The conversation ended just as quick as it began when Simon slunk up behind you. You didn't look back as you were shepherded into the pub that night. Wonder if there was a wordless exchange that you would have caught if you did.
You wonder if Simon forgot that night. You don't think so. He's got a good memory when it comes to you (it doesn't unnerve you so much anymore, how he knows you. it doesn't bother you. It doesn't-)
“Right. You're lookin about as green as the peas, c'mere. I'll pack it away for later love.” He beckons with a hand and you dutifully follow, eager to be done having lost your appetite.
You watch as he roots through his cabinets and fishes out a container. The food is packed neatly inside and placed in the fridge, and he joins your dishes with his in the sink.
He stops your move at washing them by gesturing towards a stool nearby.
“You know the routine. I wash you dry, man your station.”
You snort, imagine him saying that in battle. Sounds silly to you, but you're sure in the moment you'd take it seriously - assuming you weren't trying to run off from the firefight.
Up the stool you hop, dry rag in hand, while Simon washes. The water is steaming, whisps of evaporated water curling around his reddening hands and wrists. Says it's better for sanitization- just not for the hands, you remind him. He's lucky you're invested in him, you keep a bottle of hand lotion in every room. He won't use it himself, but stays still while you rub it into cracked knuckles and callus ridden palms.
He's quick with the dishes, and to tease him a bit you make a show of inspecting for missed spots - you don't find any. He chuffs at you, the weird breath laugh that he does.
“Mean it though, lamb. Keep away from him.” He reminds, disregarding the pleasant mood you had painstakingly created.
You set the dish down with a touch more force than necessary and his brow twitches. You mutter a half assed “my bad” and avoid his eye.
“Lamb.”
It's not like you want to see this guy, really. You do plan on avoiding him but. But you can't just let Simon dictate these things. You're an adult capable of making your own choices, youre the one in control of your own life , you- hearing your name stops your train of thought.. He says your name in a way that snuffs out your rebellious spark. Hardly ever uses your name, only when he's serious.
There have been times when you responded to ‘lamb’ faster than you had your own name, it's so foreign to you.
“I. I won't. I won't go near him, okay? It's not like I want to talk to some sleazeball anyway.” You concede, fight leaving you.
He's behind you faster than you can process, boxing you in between the counter and his solid mass.
“....m'not actin like this for no reason. Keepin you safe, lamb. Always keeping you safe. It's my job now, not asking for permission and I wont. You're my one good thing, my lamb, my…friend”
He says friend like that sometimes. Not in a way that makes you think he views you as less than a friend. But makes you feel like he sees you as more.
You don't broach the subject. Neither does he. You don't like change and he knows that (you also feel like running from him would be easier if you're just a friend, not that you need to run - it's just a precaution).
“I know. I know, Simon. I just…I don't like when you decide things for me sometimes.” You admit, hesitantly.
A beat of silence goes by and you feel the need to backtrack rise through you. You have a few appeasing lies brewing when he hums thoughtfully.
“Mm….even when it's easier? Just letting me decide?” He asks, his voice deeper somehow- accent thickening somehow, as he draws closer. If you took a deep enough breath your back would touch his chest.
You keep your breathing controlled, shiver, and nod. “Even when it's easier…I- I should still be the one to choose. For the most part…unless I ask you.” (but oh isn't it tempting, the thought of just letting someone else take over and-)
He sighs. And from the corner of your eye you watch as he nods. Nods again. And then like writhing snakes his arms slither back and away, he takes a few audible steps back(audible for your comfort) and leans against the kitchen island, arms now crossed.
“Alright, lamb. What do you want to do about the Swalt situation?”
As pushy, and overbearing, and all encompassing Simon and his attention is, even when he makes you feel like you're drowning - the moments of consideration he shows you keep you hooked to his side.
“I…..I don't want to be near him. And I don't want him near me…Especially not with that smell.” You decide, resolute and feeling just that much better expressing some control over your life.
“Done and done, lamb. We'll keep you outta his sight and mind. Let his luck run out, I'm sure he'll get what's coming to him.”
The last part…feels like a promise. A thinly veiled threat. It makes your stomach curdle at the thought, and you focus on lightening the mood (undigested pea won't taste, feel, or look nice coming back up).
“So soldier boy, Intel says you haven't seen the hobbit series yet - that's a crime. I could have you arrested, you know?”
He snorts. “Yea? You gonna cuff me, officer?”
“Not officer.” Your correct him “judge, jury and executioner. And as such I sentence you to ‘watch the first movie with me’. While serving hard time you're also tasked with making popcorn.”
“Could I ask the oh so supreme authority to grab some throw blankets? I have evidence to suggest one of the parties involved gets cold real easy.”
You sniff indignantly. He's just a space heater, you're the normal one. But, “ a reasonable request, consider it granted.” he loves keeping his flat cold.
You watch the movie together, he doesn't mind that you make little jokes here and there - he even joins in a few times.
And he likes it! That's what he tells you at least. And you think you've gotten better at reading him, so you're pretty sure he means it.
He lets you prattle on about the movie. You let him curl you into his blanket, tucking you into his side. He makes a comment here and there. Offers praise in regards to certain scenes and questions others. You talk into the night, forget about swalt, forget about all the tension, forget that you're supposed to drive home.
It's late now. And you're far too tired to drive, he reminds you that this isn't the first time you've slept over.
even has a set of his clothes ready for you.
—--------
It takes two nights for people to realize Tony Swalts was missing. 3 more for his body to be found and the story to hit the news.
‘Another soul stolen by the infamous Reaper’ is what the news is headlined as.
“Told you so” he says, smug (almost…proud?) As the newscaster goes over the details. “His luck ran out, took a risky gamble and lost. Good riddance”
“Y-yeah, you called it…a guy like him was uh. Bound to end up like this, eventually” you murmur in nervous agreement. You're sat next to him on the couch while the segment airs. He's got his arm thrown against the back of the couch. His fingers gently play with pieces of your hair.
You don't listen to the broadcast, not concerned with the details. You know it's gruesome, know that he died screaming - terrified beyond belief and in pain.
You know that Simon really shouldn't be so happy at the news. Relieved maybe, but happy? You'd understand happiness from the perspective of anyone Swalts wronged but - you see Simon's shoulders shake as he quietly laughs- but you know this can't be a normal reaction.
You also know that you were with Simon around the time of death, shared a bed at his instance (co-sleeping helps keep him asleep longer, he says). Woke up next to him and everything. Know that you got up in the middle of the night for water, only to have him go get up and pour you a cup himself. He has an alibi. You are his alibi. There would be no way for him to have done something like that and hide it so well.
This internal battle never seems to stop. Torn between what is real and provable and what your intuition tells you is happening.
You've been in his house, you've seen every room, checked every crevice. Nothing. It's Simon. Your Simon. Your friend for fucks sake. Sure he's a bit rough around the edges but he's a good person. You know him, you think. You really truly think you do. Know what he likes, what he doesn't. Gotten better at knowing what he's feeling or thinking.
You know all these things. You know it's not him.
But you just don't know why he looks so…
satisfied.
You keep quiet ultimately. Remind yourself that he is your friend. And that he's been accused of being this horrible killer before, worked to show and prove his innocence in court- was even attacked by the real killer and just barely survived!
And as he plays with your hair and switches over to the movie he let you pick out you settle deeper into his side. He let you pick on his night, cause he ‘wanted you to pick something that made you happy’. Why would a monster be sweet? Considerate? Why would he feed and experience life with you? Laugh, and joke, and smile with you?
You don't know. Maybe you don't want to know. Maybe it's better that way.

for so long ive put off putting any mix-ins in my instant ramen because all the stuff online u see does in fact add effort and cooking time (which are great if you have that and just get the ramen cause its cheap. i get it however cause it is low spoons (and cheap)) but i realized recently i can just throw in frozen veggies to cook at the same time as the noodles So today i made ramen with:
frozen peas
frozen corn
a bit of arugula (thrown in the bowl before pouring in the soup. recommendation from my mom.)
chopped green onion (some extra effort but i can do it while waiting for the noodles to cook)
bit of cilantro
And it came out really good and is like. more nutritious. next time im gonna try adding egg (egg drop style not soft boiled. i hate boiled eggs of all kinds)
#tick biz#really just the baseline of some frozen corn and/or peas is great i definitely recommend it

Spontaneity.
Synopsis; What’s life without a little spontaneity? Of course, there’s nothing like midnight convenience store runs with your roommate, Jun.
Pairing(s)/Character(s); Wen Junhui x Reader
Word Count; 1.9k
Genre; Roommates to Lovers, Friends to Lovers, Fluff,
Warnings; Fluff, Pre-marital hand-holding
In all the time you lived in an apartment with Jun, restless nights had become a regular occurrence. The first week you two stayed together, he had suggested a night out at a diner down the street. You and your best friend ended up huddling at a booth at the very back of the establishment, laughing over stupid memes you saw online and attempting to shoot french fries into each other’s mouths. By the time you two came home, it was already two in the morning; your companion ended up crashing on his bed right away while you made sure everything was locked.
You still remember how he swayed while trying to find the way back to his bedroom with half-lidded eyes and a brain running on its last two brain cells. It was endearing to say the least, particularly when he begged you to tuck him in after you checked every door and window. You liked to think it was the sleep deprivation that made you give in to his whining, pressing your lips to his forehead tenderly before wishing him a goodnight - and not the blooming feelings in your chest every moment you spent with him.
On another night - that night - you found yourself staring at the ceiling of your room and bored out of your mind. Unfortunately, everyone you knew had been unavailable that Friday; even Jun had yet to come back from practicing at the dance studio he and a few of his friends ran. It was around 7:30pm when he texted you he wouldn’t be home until late, knowing you’d be worried if he hadn’t come home at eight like he usually did. That was four hours ago, and it was just a bit past 11pm.
You groaned, turning over onto your side as you stared at the wall next. You’re greeted by a collage of picture frames containing some of your favorite moments in your life. Your eyes flit across the glass. There were photos of your graduation from university; another of you and your friends when you were in high school; some of just you - and in the center of it all, there was you and Jun looking like that picture-perfect couple you wanted both of you to be.
It was the first day you two moved in together. You two were sat on the beige couch that came from Jun’s old place, your bright green pillows on opposite sides while you two were positioned in the middle - stuck together like glue. Your other friends always said that both of you were like two peas in a pod. Some even hoped that you two would end up together; you did too a little bit, even when you thought it’d never happen.
You sighed as you eyed Jun’s smile. It was taken when he miraculously started growing another tooth after losing one during a performance. He had been so shy to take pictures afterward that it took you every bargaining chip you had just to convince him to take the picture with you. (“Makes it a little more homey,” you shrugged, completely missing the way his eyes sparkled at his home screen after you had sent the very same picture to him. You still didn’t know he printed a copy to put in his wallet, and you still haven’t noticed.)
A buzz from the side of your head brought you back to the present as the little jingle Jihoon made and sent to you rang from your phone. Your hand flailed to your side, grabbing for it before you glanced at the caller ID. It was Jun. You picked up immediately.
“Did I wake you?” Jun’s voice traveled through your ears, and you have never found more comfort than in the way the tone at the end of his sentence was higher out of concern. You don’t miss the awkward chuckle at the end of his sentence. It hadn’t even been a minute since you picked up the call, but your cheeks were already starting to hurt.
You laugh softly, “no, I was awake. Couldn’t sleep.” A low hum came from Jun. “Why are you calling, anyways? Did you lock yourself out again?” There had been instances Jun forgot to take the keys to your apartment, and you had to open the door for him or had him wait for you until you came home on more than one occasion.
“Not this time. I’m on my way back from the studio, and I was wondering…” he trailed.
“Do you wanna go on a convenience store run? I should be there in a few minutes.”
While usually, you’d be too lazy to go out, there was a tenderness in Jun’s voice to which your heart couldn’t help but be stirred. It was as if it was trying to tug you towards him every chance, and you couldn’t blame the way your entire existence had started to crave for him. Plus, it was Jun asking. How could you say no?
“Ok-”
“Great! I’ll wait for you in the lobby! It's my treat, okay?”
It wasn’t long until Jun reached his destination. He tapped his foot against the carpeted floor as he sat on one of the lounge chairs positioned on one side of the lobby. With every open of the metal doors, he silently anticipated your appearance. Every time the contraption let out a ding, his eyes shot from his smartphone to the corner of the room and hoping it might finally be you that came out.
He was staring at a cat video that made him think about what it'd be like to cuddle you with a little furball between you when you finally arrived. You stopped short of a meter in front of him, dressed in nothing more than sweatpants and one of his hoodies he left lying around in the apartment. When he looked up to see you bashfully playing with the strings of his jacket, Jun felt like he lost all feeling in his legs.
"I was too lazy to dig through the closet. It was the first thing I saw. I hope you don't mind."
God, if he wasn't in love with you before, he surely was now.
The convenience store wasn't too far; in fact, it was only a six minute walk from the apartment complex. It was four minutes if you and Jun raced each other - which you did on nights to decide who would treat who (of course, it was Jun who always won. Though, he'd loose on purpose from time to time if only to see you light up the moment you'd gotten your hands on the snack that he'd inevitably would be paying for). The usual bustle of city life had already thinned out just two hours earlier, leaving you two to pass the sidewalk without any danger and laughing all the way until you would eventually reach those glass doors to snack heaven.
You skipped merrily in front of Jun. "How'd practice go?" You questioned, mentally counting each step you took and recounting after loosing track of it. Sometimes, your roommate would notice, and he'd fall into step with you. That alone always made your days a little bit better.
He hummed, jogging right up next to you. His eyes shifted towards his feet for a split second and analyzed your footwork before matching your rhythm - right, left, right, left, right, and left. Jun looked up to you (with all the love in the world, but you never noticed).
"Not too tiring considering we're doing another dance cover. We're hoping to post at least one more in the next few weeks." He explained, recalling the routine he'd just practiced an hour prior. Soonyoung set the goal a week and a half ago after their most recent cover blew up online, and they decided to take advantage of the newfound popularity to advertise the dance studio.
"What's the song? Maybe I'll give it a listen tomorrow if I have the time." Then you'd watch them if you ever decided to drop by next week. Maybe you'd even bring some snacks, knowing they were always starving at the end of their practice.
Jun told you just as you finally stopped in front of the store. The automatic doors sliding open for you to scurry yourselves in and immediately head to separate isles out of muscle memory. Jun watched you from the mirror in the corner, crouching down to swipe a bag of chips. The sight made him smile.
You two reconvened at the register, and after paying, you two ended up outside once more. By then, the air had only become chillier, and it was only then you felt your fingertips feel to frost over. Jun noticed, of course; why wouldn't he? Your fingers started to twitch, your instincts acting immediately and making you pull down the sleeves of the jacket. With how long he spent living with you, picking apart your habits was bound to happen.
"Cold?" He shuffled the paper bag full of your treats onto his left arm as you took the spot to his right. You fidgeted, rubbing your palms against the fabric in an effort to bring them warmth. The way Jun whispered to you with care made your heart rate pick up.
"Yeah, just a little," your cheeks warmed to the notion that he cared enough to tell so easily when you're cold, "I'll be okay though. It'll only take a few minutes until we go back to the apartment."
Jun frowned. Cautiously, his right pinky grazed against your hand. It was only a few seconds, but it sent sparks of electricity straight to his heart. He glanced at your face, wondering if you would pick up on his small attempt to hold your hands. When he found you still continuing on, without such indication that his touch had earned your attention, he almost physically deflated.
Two minutes pass in silence; you two are already halfway back to the apartment. In truth, you did feel his touch, but the way it made your brain blank did little to remedy the overthinking. You pretended like it was no big deal despite the thoughts swirling in your head. Do I hold his hand? Does he want me to?
Stewing in your thoughts doesn't leave you much time because you find yourself back at the entrance of your apartment complex. A part of you feels disappointed at your lack of confidence. Even if you did feel shy, you still wanted to hold his hand. Sure, you've held hands once or twice on other occasions, ones attributed to Jun's slight protectiveness - it's just that something about tonight felt different.
When you crossed the threshold of the elevator, you stared blankly at the doors as they closed. Your tongue felt like lead, the silence still permeating between you.
Then you felt it.
The spontaneous combustion of fireworks in your chest as your heart hammered against your ribcage. Jun had wrapped his hands around your own. Your head snapped up to look at him, his own head turned away from you to hide away his own embarrassment. But the reddening of the tips of his ears easily gave him away. You gave his hand a squeeze, and you leaned a bit closer to his side.
Maybe you could go on more of these spontaneous midnight convenience store runs.

Magical Recipes; how to approach an established recipe as a Kitchen Witch
Art by forestfolke on Deviant Art I think one of the most confusing things for new, or even experienced, kitchen witches is how to expand their recipe catalogue for their practice. A lot of new kitchen witches think you need to follow a recipe that has been written special for Witchy Cooking. That the regular recipes they find or use just won't have any magical purpose. But that's just not the case.
You don't need to buy special cook books with recipes exclusively for Kitchen Witches. You can take any recipe that already exists and apply it to your wants or needs. To help explain this process, I'm going to take a recipe I found online then reverse engineer it into a Kitchen Witch Recipe.
The Recipe
My Partner often donates blood, so eating foods that keep his Iron up is important to us. But I also want this dish to be emotionally satisfying Vs just eating a Steak, which neither of us find particularly appealing. I thought I'd try a Cottage Pie (also called Shepperd's Pie) because I want to find a new recipe that will help use up ingredients. Don't get me wrong, soups are awesome; but I tend to go a little light on the meat/alternatives. I tend to keep a good supply of ground meat in the freezer, so know I'll have most of the key stuff.
So I'm starting with this recipe since I don't have my own Cottage Pie recipe. Here are the Ingredients: Filling
1 lb lean ground beef
1 lb ground sausage (I use Jimmy Dean pork sausage)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 small yellow onion , chopped
2 ribs celery , chopped
1-2 carrots , chopped (about 1 cup)
3 cloves garlic , minced
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 1/2 cups low-sodium beef broth
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 cube beef bouillon
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon fresh thyme , chopped (or ¼ teaspoon dried thyme)
1 teaspoon fresh rosemary , chopped (or ¼ teaspoon dried rosemary)
2 bay leaves
½ cup frozen corn
½ cup frozen peas
Topping
2 1/2 pounds Russet potatoes , Yukon gold or russet potatoes
¼ cup sour cream
½ cup milk
4 tablespoons butter
salt and pepper , to taste
½ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese , for topping
So let's start with the topping since it has less ingredients to worry about. For those unfamiliar with cottage pie, the base of the pie is mostly meat and Veggies, and then it's topped with some mashed potatoes before baking. It's common to just use leftover mashed potatoes. So, I'll just use my mashed potato and cauli recipe. In short, it's half potato and half cauliflower with roast garlic and seasonings. Both Potatoes and Cauliflower have protective properties. Since this is the protective top layer of the Pie, I thought the symbolism carried itself further. The Cauliflower will also work well together with the Garlic to Banish any negativity from the pie, as well as from those who consume it.
Now let's break down the filling. Starting with the largest Ingredients. Ground Beef and Ground Sausage. Ground meats in general are fantastic for grounding energy. I'll probably sub the ground beef for whatever ground meat I have on hand, so the grounding aspect is what I'll focus on for now. Potatoes are also good for grounding. This is over all is going to be a very down to earth, hearty meal. Next, the vegetables. Onion, Celery, Carrots, Peas, and Corn. Corn is not something I use on the regular, but it's has a good use in Kitchen Magic as a power multiplier. Similar to Rice. Carrots have heath and energy properties, something I want in a dish for improving Iron Levels. Though I never particularly enjoyed peas, I'll use them for their health and abundance benefit. Green Peas are also high in Iron. Celery is great ingredient to add to a dish to add lasting happiness and satisfaction. Which I defiantly want so when the dish is consumed, you don't feel disappointed. Onion will add onto the Protection and Health. But Onion also has good cleansing properties, so I have the habit of adding it to my pan first to cleanse my cooking station. I'll probably cook some or all of the onion with the meat. Now the Seasonings. Not everything used in your cooking needs to have a magical purpose. It can just be there to enhance the taste of your food. I use Worcestershire sauce often in my cooking with no thought to it's magical abilities. I use it all the time when I want to add some extra umami or savory flavour. But there are some things we can add to help enhance the magic. Thyme, Rosemary, and Bay. All three of these herbs are good for health and healing. I can feed this to my SO before a donation to make sure his Iron is up. Then I can feed it to them after when their body is recuperating. Though I may forgo the Bay leaf. I tend to worry I'll leave it in my food when it's not supposed to be eaten XD But that said, I think I'll add a few of my own. Marjoram seems like it will go well in this, which will add to the Happiness and Comfort of my meal. I wanna add some Basil and Cayenne to this. The Basil I'm hoping will help stop long term fatigue, so my SO's mind is not affected by the donation. Cayenne for a blast of extra energy. I'll also add some extra Garlic and Parsley. I'll also make a few other personal tweaks like swapping the Flour for Cornstarch. I prefer using corn starch in my sauces, and I already have corn as an ingredient anyway, so it should mesh together better on their property levels. Cooking/Assembling Now that I have the magical properties of all my ingredients established, I simply need to assemble them according to the recipe directions. The only difference is, when I add something to the dish, I know what I'm adding not only on a Mundane level, but also the magic properties of the food. I'm adding ground meat to ground my dish and the people consuming it. I add Celery to help the food be emotionally satisfying. I'll add peas to enhance health and healing. Ect.
Also note, you don't need to do as big of a dissection every time you want to cook a recipe as a Kitchen Witch. If you come across an ingredient or two you are familiar with the magic properties for (Or the ingredient just has a spiritual meaning to you personally) You can add it to your meal with that meaning in mind. Like adding a little honey to your tea to sweeten and brighten your day. Also note, most ingredients have multiple magical uses. Just as they have multiple culinary uses. You can add honey to tea for happiness, or may may choose to add it help heal and get over a cold you have. Or you can add it for both reasons! Or neither reason; maybe you just want some honey. You are the Castor, the Decider, the Kitchen Witch!
Eat well and be well 💜💜💜

So I haven't made many garden updates because of my mental health, I went into survival mode for a bit, but now things are looking up, so I have things to share!
The garden has started producing zuchinnis monstrously, I've somehow managed to get more than 6 zuchinni plants which is a Mistake and I should have known better. I've ran out of ideas so I've been looking online for recipes and then I found this video, which I believe is the most sinful video ever created, if you're into women and wanting to get severely tempted then and only then watch this.
I've managed to get poisoned again, nobody is surprised, but this time I didn't do anything except eat food that was more than 24hrs old, I thought it would be fine, it didn't taste like it went completely bad, it was more like, on the edge. I think it happened because I put raw chives in it, and it was like, a blended soup, so maybe I just shouldn't do that. It took me 2 days to recover, I'm alright now.
The rest of the garden is doing so bad it's kinda funny, I haven't been taking care of it like usual, and I've found myself not having enough seeds of everything I've wanted, like green beans, peas, potatoes, so I've decided to plant what I have, only to get seeds, without actually eating those things. I also want to learn to grow potatoes and onions out of seeds, I've never done it before but I'm very excited at the prospect! My potatoes are not currently flowering but I saw a big field of potatoes and they all had flowers, so I'm planning to just sneak in there and steal a few potato fruits - nobody here is growing potatoes from seed anyway and the fruits are very poisonous. (I will not eat them don't worry).
I've gotten a decent harvest of garlic, I'm very happy with it! I got above expectations amount of chamomile, and I got gifted a whole lot of thyme. I'm in the process of drying strawberries for winter and I love how much I've got already. Next zuchinnis to get harvested will get dried too, and then finally, I'll dry cherry tomatoes as well. I can't wait to have a stash of dried goods again, they were invaluable last winter.
My tomatoes are looking pretty bad this summer, and that's not usually the case, I wonder if it's the bad weather, or I just haven't done enough fertilizing this year. I've gotten a few tiny ones from my balcony, where I'm having a few dwarf tomatoes grow, but they've also been doing bad, and they seem to be dying already. Peppers are still tiny little things and I only hope that eventually they start to grow properly. Beans, on the other hand, are doing great, they've taken their space and they're ruling their lands, climbing up to the skies and creating tons of produce. I'm checking every day to see when I can start a harvest, I would absolutely love some beans.
I feel like this year is a preparation more than a great gardening year; the beans will fertilize my soil, the lessons I've learned about planting in strawberry beds will help me do a better job next year, the tiny amount of green beans and peas I've planted will give me the seeds to plant big amounts next year, and if I learn to grow onions and potatoes from seed, the next year I will have more than enough, and I will have the knowledge to keep producing these things forever, without ever having to worry about seeds again.
If anyone has recipes for zuchinni that only require potatoes, flour, garlic and spices, I'd love to know! I have poisoned myself with soup so I have to hit the pause on that. Once I get tomatoes and peppers it will be pizza time!
#gardening#garden progress#growing food#weirdly bad year for garden it seems#or its just because i refuse to buy seeds#but I want to LEARN how to garden without buying stuff ever!#and i feel like i'm on a good route even if i poison myself a little here and there#also WHAT IS WITH THAT VIDEO#i've watched it few minutes ago and i am NOT OKAY#my brain is lost in lesbian lust#and i don't know if the video was meant to make me go insane but it did that job really well

drop the chicken paprikash resippy 👀
caveat: I don’t use a lot a measurements and just use my eye/intuition/taste buds a lot, so if you need specific measurements you’ll probably be better off following a dedicated recipe online or comparing them to mine. Also, my recipe is by no means traditional as I am just a latino dude living in the southwest and i’m Not Hungarian in any way, and this is a riff off of my mom’s dish rather than the traditional dish itself. I also like to be really descriptive so there’s a lot of steps but this recipe is, in reality, mega easy lol. Okay-
This dish contains dairy. You can try dairy-free sour cream but I’ve never tried it. Lactose-free sour cream is a perfectly fine substitute though!
(Serves 4)
Cookery:
- a large pot big enough to line thighs on the bottom
- A wooden spoon or spatula to stir with, and tongs or something to take out the chicken with.
Ingredients:
- Chicken thighs with skins on (i really do not recommend skinless or substituting for breasts at all) enough for 1 or 2 per person
- 1 white or sweet yellow onion
- 3-4 cloves of garlic
- 5 large carrots, or two handfuls of baby carrots.
- 3 Russet Potatoes
- Sour cream (you can use 8 oz, i like to use 16oz because i always use a little more than half)
- Chicken broth (at least 4 cups, I used almost a whole 32 oz carton.)
- Any neutral oil (for frying), olive oil is ok though
- Salt and pepper
- Paprika (If you can get hungarian paprika that’s preferred, but otherwise dont sweat it. The dish is called Paprikash so make sure you have plenty)
- Cayenne pepper
- Dried red pepper strips (I happened to have a bag of them from Trader Joes. This is kinda optional but i liked it so much that i recommend it.)
Optional Ingredients:
- Any other vegetable you want (corn, peas, green beans or diced fresh bell pepper would be good!)
- Tony Chachere’s cajun seasoning (for seasoning the chicken, i put this shit in everything tbh)
- Parsley (for color)
Directions:
1. Season thighs liberally with salt, pepper (and tony chachere’s seasoning if available), allow to sit for 30 minutes or while you chop veggies.
2. Pre-cook the potatoes partway by using a microwave, oven, or cubing and boiling in water until almost done. I used a microwave since it’s much faster.
3. While potatoes are cooking, slice onion horizontally (into rings) or vertically (into strips), whichever you’d prefer. Slice large carrots into 1/2 cm coins or baby carrots in half. Smash and mince your garlic.
5. Blend entire bag of dried red pepper. It seems like a lot, but it’s not since peppers are mostly air now. If you don’t have a blender, use a mortar and pestle or put into a bag and smash the fuck out of those guys until theyre a powder. It’s okay if it’s not super duper fine. If you dont have dried red pepper, skip this step.
6. Whenever your potatoes are half done, take them out of whatever vessel you chose and carefully cut into large cubes (theyre probably really hot!)
7. At med-high heat, add a couple tablespoons of oil to your pot, enough to coat the bottom. Add your thighs skin side DOWN so that theyre in direct contact with the bottom. Allow the thighs’ fat to render out and the skin to brown a bit. It should take about 6 minutes. If the skin hasnt taken on a lot of color yet, that’s ok- allow a few more minutes and then flip the thighs. Allow the bottoms to cook for another 5 minutes in the rendered fat then remove.
8. Now put in your carrots, garlic, and onion in the pan to cook in the rendered chicken fat. Scrape whatever yummy brown fond has built on the bottom. Don’t sweat about scraping it all up, as youll get most of it later. Cook until carrots are softened but still a little firm and onions are starting to turn translucent.
9. Add your cubed potatoes in with the other vegetables, give them a toss, and take off of the heat so you can add the seasonings- papricka scorches easily. Most recipes use ~3tbs, I swear I always use more like 4. Also add in your powdered red pepper here, as well as 1 tbs of cayenne some more salt and pepper. Mix everything and bring back to the heat, which you will reduce to Medium.
10. Pour in your chicken broth, enough to submerge all of the vegetables. Add about 3 generous spoonfuls of sour cream, mixing it in so that the soup is now a creamy, luscious gravy. It’s important to not have the pot much hotter than Medium so that the sour cream doesnt curdle. This is a good time to do some extra fond-scraping if you couldnt get a lot earlier! The potatoes may soften and deteriorate, and that’s fine.
11. Re-place the thighs back into the pot as well, making sure theyre covered in the gravy. If the liquid doesnt cover the thighs, add some more chicken broth and sour cream until it does.
12. Chop up or tear up a handful of parsley and add.
13. Cover pot with a lid and allow everything to come back to a boil. Let everything mingle together for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will re-heat the thighs and finish cooking them. You can also taste the gravy for salt and adjust accordingly. This is also a good time to add some frozen corn, peas and stuff if desired.
And that’s it! You can serve this on top of egg noodles as well since thats pretty traditional, but the thighs and veggies alone with the gravy makes for a very savory and hearty dinner. Make sure you add another ladle-full of gravy on top.
This dish will result in something that sort of resembles a stew with a bright vibrant reddish zesty and creamy gravy, tender vegetables and juicy, tender chicken. The gravy should be chickeny, savory, and delightfully creamy. Paprika is already powdered red pepper, but I feel like adding just normal powdered paprika and then the freshly blended dried red pepper adds an additional fresh, sweet richness to the sauce. Thighs still have the bone in it, so i usually eat this dish with a fork and use my fingers to carefully tear the meat off the bone, and then just pick up the bone once it’s cooled off a little and gnaw on the rest of the meat and the softened cartilage.
My partner and friends really liked it. Next time we’re going to add some chipotle or southwestern red chile to it for some more spice and smokiness to try out.

Just Another Cooking Session (Obey Me!) fic
summary: The kitchen is filled with cooking and chatter. Mostly of the human exchange student talking with Lucifer and Beelzebub. Casual, fluff, romance.
Molly was currently in the kitchen of the House of Lamentation. Making the meal for the demons she dearly loves. A few pots on the stove steaming as they cook various items. While Molly took the time to finish a plate of sub sandwiches to then hand the whole plate over to a very hungry Beelzebub. Who gladly took the plate to kiss her on the cheek and begin munching away. Making Molly smile as she started chopping fruits for a fruit salad.
It was at this point Lucifer walked into the kitchen to look very irate. His steps taking him to sit next to Beelzebub and sigh. So Molly moved to pour the now whistling tea kettle. A steaming mug of green tea soon in Lucifer's hands for the demon to smile in gratitude. His words warm and only hinting at his fatigue. "It would seem you expected my arrival. Or were you going to ask me to join you?"
Molly sighed to nod as Beelzebub nudged half a chicken sub over to Lucifer for him to eat as they talked. Which Lucifer took without question to nibble on as Molly kept chopping fruit. Her words sullen and soft. "I've been having a hard time with a specific want. Namely how I feel about a certain someone." Beelzebub kept munching as Lucifer raised an eyebrow. The Avatar of Pride soon sipping at the tea to then muse a little. "Here I figured you would go to Asmodeus for this kind of discussion. But I take it you already did?" Molly nodded to then huff. "Spent all day doing a spa treatment therapy session with him over things. Which also led to him crying over the fact he isn't the one I fell in love with and ended up as number three." Lucifer flinched as Beelzebub paused mid bite. The Avatar of Gluttony asking, "Do I get to know where I am on the list, Molly?" This had Molly smile sadly to tap Beel on the nose. "Number two is you, my beloved teddy bear." Beelzebub blushed to then hum as he finished his current sandwich. While Lucifer sighed to note, "I already know I am not in the top five. Which stings a bit when it comes to this... Situation."
Molly chuckled to then tap Lucifer on the nose. "You place fourth, actually. But it's mostly a tie between you and Mammon. Do not let that out of the kitchen." Lucifer thought on this to then grin with a fiendish glint to his eyes. "Number one has been apparent for a good long while to myself and to Lord Diavolo. Despite the fact that said number one is completely unable to fathom such. Yet it suits both of you so very well that your heart belong to Leviathan." Beelzebub hummed to then lick his fingers free of sauce. "Right. Both of you love anime and video games. Both of you tend to be really shy. Passionate and tactful. Like two peas in a pod." Molly looked to her hands as a blush roared over her face. Making Lucifer chuckle as he sipped his tea. "I remember when Leviathan fell asleep with you in the living room after the both of you had challenged a tournament group online. Mammon and Satan had also joined the tournament and fell to your combined might. But then you both took second place. Leviathan looked heartbroken for you to openly throw your arms around him and say how fantastic he had done. He'd been about to cry for you both losing. yet you praised him and looked like you had won first place in all three realms."
Beelzebub grinned to openly chuckle. "I still have that photo. It's my favorite of you two together. Levi never expected you to be so happy over losing. But then you made it clear it was his skill and effort that mattered. He told me later how stunned he was. So I told him what you tell me." Molly smiled to recount her manta out loud. "Do your best and celebrate how far you get. That is what really matters in the end." Lucifer nods to finish his tea and smile. "Leviathan will always struggle with his sin. But when he is with you... That emptiness is filled for him to savor the now. I could not ask for more for any of you." Beelzebub stills when Lucifer turns to him to place a hand on Beelzebub's shoulder and hum a warm notation of affection. "This family is the most priceless treasure in all of existence. So we need to be glad for what we have. But I vote we do a special something for Molly and Levi. What say you, Beel?"
Beelzebub nods to then grin. "I want to do that. In fact, I may have an idea on what we should do. There's supposed to be this big concert in the Human World next month that Leviathan mentioned." Molly blinks to then squeak. "Oh! The concert is for the Final Fantasy series! All the best music from the games are going to be played by a live orchestra! It happens once a year and tickets can be extremely hard to get!" Lucifer grins to note, "Would the music include that one album of piano music you gave me as a surprise?" Molly nods for Lucifer to pour himself another cup of tea. "Then we should get tickets. For all of us. But then we get you and Leviathan a special after concert gift. Lime Yogurt Dressing
Hankering after a creamy dressing...but you’re looking for something different than Ranch? This lime yogurt dressing is tart and creamy and worthy of a bed of fresh greens to rest on with fruit or vegetables. Best of all it's fast and easy to whip up as a change of pace. It also supports my healthy eating goals - alright!
3/4 c. plain Greek yogurt
1 1/2 T. lime juice
3 T. olive oil
salt/pepper to taste
Whisk these ingredients until smooth. Enjoy this on a bed of fresh greens with a few of your favorite vegetables - shredded carrots, diced celery, frozen (defrosted) peas - tossed in for good measure.
When I’m not serving up a diabetic friendly green salad dinner to give me better morning blood sugar readings, I’m sewing cotton canvas chef aprons for my online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/topdrawerthreads .
Or I’m knitting the last rows on a hand crafted stocking cap made from recycled yarn for my other shop - www.etsy.com/shop/topdraweryarns .
My daughter’s have an online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/yesdesigns - where they hand make and sell cotton knickers with a handy cell pocket.
My older daughter has an online shop - www.etsy.com/shop/wildwovenwomen - where she designs and knits warm winter scarves from recycled upcycled thirfted repurposed yarn.
