saw ur recommendation for 3m aura n95s 👀👀 any advice on where to get them from? heading back 2 school in a few weeks and wanna stock up — tysm !!!!!
ok so!! my first recommendation is to see if there is a mask block near you, in my area it was CRANE (covid resistance action northeast), they're having trouble stocking and filling orders rn so mine took ~a month to arrive but the time would've passed anyway as they say . if ur in a more urban area ur a lot more likely to have one near u tbh, idk if it'd work but it'd be worth reaching out to the closest one even if they're not technically working in ur exact area just to see . here's a map of mask blocs worldwide- they're mostly in america (continent - but mostly in the US+canada) & europe (mostly in great britian) but there are some others too
otherwise the safest way to get some that are 100% not counterfeit is ordering directly from a supplier, but that can be expensive . project n95 is inactive now but theres still a list of suppliers there !! 3m is really good from experience . u can also get n95s/kn95s/p100 respirators from home depot if u have one near u- however the supplyaid kn95s they sell arent very good, i had them and theyre better than nothing but they only have a 67% filtration rate (as opposed to the 95% expected from n95s and kn95s - thats what the 95 stands for i was mindblown when i discovered this)
also while im thinking about it, part of the reason n95s are more protective than kn95s despite both filtering 95% of particles is bc the seal on the n95 is a lot more reliable than the kn95 :}
me personally ive been getting mine from amazon (not recommended) (i have gift cards there so im not giving them My money at least) and trying my best to make sure they're legit . i referenced the 3m n95 1870s i got using this twitter thread and they seem to be legit? on amazon it also usually says where it ships from and check the storefront, the reviews etc etc. i basically have to do an entire vetting process every time its very annoying ❤️ it is a lot less expensive though, especially if they have a sale going . (here are the ones ive been getting- the listings look the same as of rn but amazon changes them all the time so take this with a grain of salt, person i imagined reading this in 2027. link 1, link 2)
ive tried the holy trinity (new term i made up for the 3m n95 1870 (red straps), 3m n95 9205 (blue straps), and 3m n95 9210 (braided white straps)) -- ime the 9210 definitely has the tightest head straps and i have an abnormally small head on account of being 3 inches tall and born in a thimble all alone . so thats something to be aware of, if u have an abnormally big head the 3m auras might not be the best bc of the strap tightness .
SORRY I'M LIKE INFODUMPING AT U NOW ..!! i have more though . If you know anyone irl who masks asking them where they get theirs might help, they might know stuff locally. ALSO speaking of knowing stuff locally- i don't know if this is universal but i have a friend who's getting really into asian cuisine and a lot of asian grocery stores ive been to with her in my area have had masks. that's such a long shot but ive seen them five out of six stores ive gone to and never at, like, hannaford or market basket or whatever.
OKAY ONE MORE THING . when i got my free masks from crane (SHOUTOUT CRANE I LOVE YOU CRANE) they also sent a thing abt how to reuse them that i will add !! they can be used for like 40 hours if theyre not visibly dirty or the straps dont break or anything
okay i am done infodumping now SORRY THIS IS SO LONG..!!! tldr: local mask bloc if it's an option is definitely the least expensive, project n95 compiled a bunch of links to buy from suppliers, home depot/other hardware stores are worth a shot, and amazon's an option especially if you're like me (poor but have money stuck in amazon gift cards) 🫡

Hey Hank! I am just getting into leatherworking (you inspired me a lot tbh) and I have some qs! If you can't or aren't inclined to answer them thats all good I just thought I would ask you :)
1) Do u know if its like... weaker to have the flesh side out on part of a project? I'm considering riveting straps around loops so that the like... shorter flap bit is on the front with the flesh side out but idk if theres a reason other than aesthetics that ppl don't do that?
2) Do u like working with veg or chrome tan leather better? This one I'm just curious about ur process lol
3) have u ever used tandy rivets & do you know if they're okay? I'm nervous about their hardware quality but idk if I have reason to be 😓
Anyways I love ur work a lot & seeing it has made me stop putting off my leatherworking journey which I am v grateful for ❤️
Gah! I'm so happy to hear this!
As far as I know it's gonna be down primarily to aesthetics but it's also gonna be harder to clean and care for the flesh than the grain, especially if it's a lower quality piece that has a pretty fibrous flesh. Burnishing isn't like, a permanent process so even if you have those fibers slicked down really well, after long enough, they'll start to loosen again. Id also guess (and really, I still consider myself a novice so I could be wrong) that the flesh is a lot more permeable so will weather worse, even if it's a quality, non fibrous piece
I actually have very limited experience with chrome tan, the only chrome I've really worked with is garment leather. Dont do much with it. Almost everything I've done in the last 9 months at least has been undyed vegtan. I do have a chrome tan side somewhere (my car I think lol) that I've been meaning to use for a flogger but have yet to get around to it.
I really like latigo, which isn't exactly vegtan or chrome tan, it's kinda it's own thing, but I don't really buy it anymore since it's a lot more expensive plus u can only really buy it by the side, and my natural double shoulders are a lot easier for me to work with + way more cost efficient.
I don't have experience with Tandy rivets, but for the most part, rivets are rivets. Like as long as theyre not aluminum or like, zinc, they'll be fine. OTB is the only exception, their rivets are fucking incredible but they're also like 16$/100... The rivets I use are 16$/1000. I get it from an Amish company but I'd guess their supplier is the same as tandys, as most of their hardware is, so I'd say go for it
Thanks for the questions lovely!

How Indian rice manufacturers are shaping the global market
Indian rice has long held a place of pride in global kitchens, from the aromatic basmati grains that grace royal banquets to the nutritious non-basmati varieties that make up everyday meals worldwide. India is the world’s largest rice exporter, meeting over 40% of global rice demand (Source: FAO). Behind this success is the dedication and innovation of rice manufacturers in India, who are constantly adapting to meet international standards and market needs.
In this blog, we explore how Indian rice manufacturers are shaping the global market, promoting sustainability and securing India’s position as a rice exporting powerhouse.
Key factors driving Indian rice exports
Quality and Variety Rice manufacturers offer a diverse range of rice, from aromatic basmati to versatile non-basmati rice varieties. Each variety caters to different cuisines and preferences, ensuring steady demand in countries such as the United States, the Middle East, and Africa.
Competitive Pricing India's favorable agricultural conditions and cost-effective manufacturing processes enable competitive pricing. Combined with bulk export capabilities, this ensures that India remains a preferred supplier for global buyers.
Government policies and support Supportive government policies such as export incentives and trade agreements have contributed significantly to India's global dominance. For example, the recent removal of export restrictions on certain Indian rice varieties has boosted international trade opportunities.
Technological advances in rice manufacturing
Technology is transforming rice production in India, increasing efficiency and quality while reducing waste.
Modern milling equipment: Automated milling units maintain uniform grain size, texture and polish, which are critical to meeting international quality standards.
AI-powered sorting: Advanced sorting systems powered by artificial intelligence help eliminate impurities, ensuring that premium-grade rice reaches global markets.
Packaging innovations: Innovative vacuum-sealing and biodegradable packaging materials have made Indian rice more attractive to environmentally conscious buyers.
Rice manufacturers in India are adopting these advancements to maintain their competitive edge while meeting global priorities.
Sustainability initiatives by Indian manufacturers
As environmental concerns grow, rice exporters in India are adopting sustainable practices to meet global expectations.
Water-efficient farming: Techniques such as alternate wetting and drying (AWD) reduce water consumption, which is crucial for regions facing water scarcity.
Low carbon footprint: Adoption of renewable energy in processing units and adoption of eco-friendly logistics have reduced emissions in the rice supply chain.
Waste Utilization: By-products such as rice husk are being reused for bioenergy and building materials, thereby reducing waste and generating additional revenue streams.
These initiatives not only enhance India’s reputation but also align with the sustainability goals of global buyers.
Conclusion: The future of Indian rice on the global stage
The success of rice manufacturers in India is not just about meeting current demands, but also about shaping the future of the global rice trade. By prioritizing quality, leveraging technology, and adopting sustainable practices, Indian manufacturers have solidified their position as reliable partners in the global food supply chain.
As international markets evolve, India’s ability to adapt and innovate will continue to drive its leadership in the rice export industry, ensuring that Indian rice remains a staple in households around the world.

In Tandem
---
The rain cascaded down in relentless sheets, pooling in the uneven pavement of the narrow alley. Win crouched next to the crate, the faint smell of decay mingling with the sharp, metallic scent of wet wood. His fingers brushed the damp edges of the crate, studying the craftsmanship—or lack thereof.
Sophie worked silently beside him, camera flashing intermittently as she documented the scene. Her usually sharp focus was tinged with unease.
“This close to the precinct,” she muttered, shaking her head. “He’s practically throwing it in our faces.”
Win glanced up briefly, rain dripping from his dark hair. “Or he’s desperate. A rushed kill, a poorly made crate... maybe he’s losing control.”
“Maybe,” Sophie murmured, though her voice carried doubt.
Footsteps approached from behind, steady but confident, and Win didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. Keith Thongkam’s voice cut through the rain like a blade.
“Desperation or arrogance?” Keith mused, umbrella in one hand, the other shoved casually in his pocket. “I’d argue the latter. The choice of location feels deliberate, don’t you think?”
Win straightened, fixing Keith with a look that fell somewhere between irritation and curiosity. “We’re investigating all angles.”
“Of course you are,” Keith said, stepping closer and tilting his head to study the crate. “But this—” He gestured at the polished yet rough-hewn wood. “This isn’t just sloppy. It’s a message. He wants us to see the cracks in his work, to notice the difference.”
Win folded his arms, unimpressed. “Or he ran out of time and used what was available.”
Keith grinned, his eyes gleaming with amusement. “Always the pragmatist. That’s what I like about you, Win. You keep me grounded.”
Before Win could respond, Min arrived, standing a few steps away to observe. He didn’t intervene, letting the conversation play out. His gaze flicked between Keith and Win, noting the subtle tension.
“Keith, if you’ve got something useful to add, say it,” Min said evenly. His tone wasn’t sharp, just firm enough to keep the situation focused.
Keith’s smirk softened. “As I was saying: the wood grain here is different. It’s not from the same source as the previous crates. It’s less refined, which means either the killer changed suppliers or this was improvised.”
Sophie looked up from her camera, eyebrows raised. “He’s right. The polish is uneven too, like it was done in a hurry.”
Win frowned, processing the information. “That could mean the killer’s losing resources or has less time between kills.”
“Or he’s testing us,” Keith added. “Seeing if we’re paying attention.”
Win gave him a skeptical look but didn’t argue. “Sophie, can you get the wood analyzed? Maybe it’ll give us a lead.”
“Already planned,” Sophie replied, her tone clipped but focused.
Min finally stepped forward, placing a hand on Win’s shoulder—not in intervention, but as a quiet acknowledgment. “You’ve got this. Let me know if you need anything.”
Win nodded, appreciating the gesture.
Keith, ever the observer, tilted his head slightly. “You two have a good dynamic. Almost familial. But isn’t it interesting how much trust Min puts in you?”
Win turned to Keith, his patience wearing thin. “If you’ve got a point, Keith, make it.”
Keith’s smile widened, but he backed off. “No point. Just an observation.”
Min sighed quietly but chose not to engage further. “Sophie, Prim’s back at the precinct. Send her the details as soon as you’re done here. I’ll check in with her.”
“On it,” Sophie replied, already gathering her tools.
As Min walked away, Keith leaned closer to Win, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial tone. “You’re interesting, Win. You’re calm under pressure, but there’s something simmering under the surface. I wonder how long it’ll take before it boils over.”
Win didn’t flinch, meeting Keith’s gaze with quiet defiance. “You’ll be waiting a long time.”
Keith chuckled, straightening and spinning his umbrella. “We’ll see.”

Kay this is why you don’t post things at 1am, I realized the diagram and instructions required a lot of edits so I’m just taking down that post for now. I’ll make up for it by giving y’all a materials list for the Sea Guard Cadet Tunic:
So. You want to make the Sea Guard Tunic. You will need:
2 yards of teal medium-weight linen or wool. All pattern pieces, excluding the cuff interlining, will be cut from this. I used linen from fabrics-store.com in the color “Sphinx.” For a fully screen-accurate wool tunic, use this wool from renaissancefabrics.net (currently sold out, but will probably be restocked)
1”x22” of a lightweight but stable fabric for interlining the cuffs. I used a different linen I had lying around. A plain cotton or something similar will work just as well. Silk organza is bizarrely good as an interlining but it is also ass to work with, so I don’t recommend it for this project.
Sewing thread. I used 50wt Kinkame silk thread from britexfabrics.com, color 47. You can use whatever regular sewing thread you have on hand, but you will have to wax your thread if hand-sewing with something other than a high-quality silk thread. Treat Gutermann silk sewing thread like it’s cotton.
4 small buttons (2 on each cuff). Mine were 1/4” diameter vintage shell buttons. You can also substitute these for 2 larger 1/2” diameter buttons, 1 for each cuff.
Size 8 or 9 quilting “betweens” (or whatever you prefer). These are shorter than regular sharps. Nicole Rudolph, who is an excellent historical costumer, uses embroidery needles, which are thicker and longer than sharps. This all comes down to personal preference and comfort. Betweens work for me, but they may not work fo you. Test out different needle types and invest in them when you find a good fit. I used the size 9 betweens from Clover.
Size 28 tapestry needles, if sewing linen. Just trust me on this. The blunt point will make all the seams so much less annoying, and you will need them if you want to do any embroidery. You may still find it necessary to fell the seam allowances using a smaller sharp needle. I use the ones from Piecemaker’s. Note: you can find these at a cheaper price from other online shops, and I can’t vouch for their shipping because I didn’t order mine from them, but I want to link to their shop directly.
Fabric scissors. I used embroidery scissors for everything. This is stupid. Do not do that, it takes forever and is deeply unnecessary. Use regular fabric sheers unless you’re a masochist like me and need everything to be perfectly on grain or you’ll go bonkers.
Beeswax, for waxing your thread. You don’t need this if you are using a smooth silk thread like Kinkame or Tire silk threads. You can get it from Burnley and Trowbridge. One thing of wax will last you forever and is a good investment even if you use silk for this project. I got mine many years ago from Whole Foods, in the…health and beauty aisle? The one with all the essential oils. It is also sold by various Indigenous-owned small businesses!
Optional:
Embroidery thread of your choice. I used a size 12 perle cotton from Valdani in shade 152, and a size 16 perle cotton from Finca in shade 4074. Valdani perle cottons can be found on etsy, and I got my Finca perle cotton from roseground.com, a UK-based lacemaking supplier.
Beads, if you want some sparkle. Size 11 and 8 seed beads would work well, especially if trying to emulate the show’s aesthetic. I get beads from direct.auntiesbeads.com which sells them in little bulk-quantity baggies. I didn’t bead my tunic, but I may bead future TROP cosplays.
You may want to have a 0.65mm (very small!) crochet hook, if sewing with silk thread. Instead of using a seam ripper, I pull my stitches out and reuse the thread. You can do this with other threads but they will start to fray and fall apart very quickly. Kinkame and similar silks will not. The crochet hook helps speed up the process. Always remove stitches in reverse of the direction you put them in, on the chance you pierced your thread on the backside. This allows you to maintain the longest possible usable length of thread.

A recent study compared the effect of washing on the stickiness and hardness of three different types of rice from the same supplier. The three types were glutinous rice, medium grain rice and jasmine rice. These different rices were either not washed at all, washed three times with water, or washed ten times with water.
Contrary to what chefs will tell you, this study showed the washing process had no effect on the stickiness (or hardness) of the rice.
Instead, the researchers demonstrated the stickiness was not due to the surface starch (amylose), but rather a different starch called amylopectin that is leached out of the rice grain during the cooking process. The amount leached differed between the types of rice grains.
So, it’s the variety of rice – rather than washing – that’s critical to the stickiness. In this study, glutinous rice was the stickiest, while medium grain rice and jasmine rice were less sticky, and also harder as tested in the laboratory. (Hardness is representative of the textures associated with biting and chewing.)
Traditionally rice was washed to rinse off dust, insects, little stones and bits of husk left from the rice hulling process. This may still be important for some regions of the world where the processing is not as meticulous, and may provide peace of mind for others.
More recently, with the heavy use of plastics in the food supply chain, microplastics have been found in our foods, including rice. The washing process has been shown to rinse up to 20% of the plastics from uncooked rice.

Schlafly Beer releases a new variety pack, Hazed for Days. Includes Mighty Haze Double IPA, Lightly Hazed Lager, Wavy Citrus Wheat, and Just a Bit Hazy IPA.
Press Release
ST. LOUIS, MO (Feb. 21, 2023) — Schlafly Beer, the original, independent craft brewery in St. Louis, announces the release of a new variety pack, Hazed for Days, a canned hazy beer variety pack with three exclusive brews – Mighty Haze Double IPA, Lightly Hazed Lager, Wavy Hazy Citrus Wheat – plus the year-round beer Just a Bit Hazy IPA. Not only are IPA’s featured, but hazy lagers and wheat beers round out the selection for the ultimate pack made for hazy-loving consumers. Each pack will include a QR code that will link to the giveaway drawing of Schlalfy’s limited-edition “Batches Be Hazy” swag.
“This new variety pack represents the work we collectively do at Schlafly – from our beer ideation process, to our pilot system trial brews, to pub-only batches, to being part of our full distribution portfolio," says Schlafly Head Brewer, Jared Williamson. “All four beers traveled through our internal process before making their way into the Hazed For Days pack. Each step of the process is important, and it’s exciting to see what started out as obscure little beer ideas now all grown up and getting shipped out to all our various markets.”
The Hazed For Days mixed 12-Pack features three cans of each of the four beers, including:
Mighty Hazy Double IPA (ABV: 8.0%): Our popular year-round IPA, with all its juicy hop flavor, gets turned up for a double IPA with tropical aromatics that come from new-school American hops: Strata and Idaho 7, and the classic Chinook. This creates an even bigger hop-and-haze experience for the drinker.
Lightly Hazed Lager (ABV: 4.5%): A classic Keller Pils style brew that features Michigan-grown Grunegiest hops, which were first bred at the Hop Research Center in Hüll, Germany.

The biggest study of ‘greedflation’ yet looked at 1,300 corporations to find many of them were lying to you about inflation
Ryan Hogg
4 - 5 minutes
As they rolled their eyes at the frustratingly familiar sight of price markups in grocery store aisles, shoppers in 2022 might have wondered whether corporations were doing everything they could to keep prices down as inflation hit generational highs. The answer now appears to be a resounding no.
A joint study by think tanks IPPR and Common Wealth found profiteering by some of the world’s biggest companies forced prices up significantly higher than costs during 2022.
Greedflation
Inflation soared across the globe last year, peaking near 11% in the eurozone and above 9% in the U.S.
The source of that high inflation has become a well-trodden line. Analysts have typically laid the blame on supply-chain bottlenecks created by excess demand during the COVID-19 pandemic and exacerbated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The war also increased energy prices, leading to further rises in inflation as suppliers factored in higher transport and running costs.
While this obviously contributed to rising prices, the report finds that company profits increased at a much faster rate than costs did, in a process often dubbed “greedflation.”
Profits for companies in some of the world’s largest economies rose by 30% between 2019 and 2022, significantly outpacing inflation, according to the group’s research of 1,350 firms across the U.S., the U.K., Europe, Brazil, and South Africa.
In the U.K., the research found that 90% of profit increases occurred among just 11% of publicly listed firms. Profiteering was more broad in the U.S., where a third of publicly listed firms were responsible for most of the increase in profits.
The biggest perpetrators were energy companies like Shell, Exxon Mobil, and Chevron, which were able to enjoy massive profits last year as demand moved away from Russian oil and gas.
Food producers including Kraft Heinz realized their own profit surges. The war in Ukraine rocked global grain supplies and fertilizer prices, significantly increasing the cost of food, which remains sticky.
The findings add to a growing body of research seeking to highlight the role of major businesses in forcing up inflation last year.
A June study by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) found that 45% of eurozone inflation in 2022 could be attributed to domestic profits. Companies in a position to benefit most from higher commodity prices and supply-demand mismatches raised their profits by the most, the study found.
CEOs of the world’s biggest companies consistently sounded the alarm on inflation as a significant barrier to growth. Many blamed rising input costs on their own price hikes. However, lots of those CEOs appear to have instead used the panic of rising costs to pump up their balance sheet.
In April, Société Générale economist Albert Edwards released a scathing note saying he hadn’t seen anything like the current levels of corporate greed in his four decades working in finance. He said companies were using the war in Ukraine as an excuse to hike prices in search of profits.
“The end of Greedflation must surely come. Otherwise, we may be looking at the end of capitalism,” Edwards wrote. “This is a big issue for policymakers that simply cannot be ignored any longer.”
Prices coming down
Inflation is now beginning to regulate in most major economies and coming closer to most central banks’ targeted 2%. Some companies that previously passed rising costs on to customers to continue making a profit have now sought to repay them with price cuts.
Last week, Ikea stores owner Ingka’s deputy CEO said the company would be spending $1.1 billion to absorb inflation and bring down the prices of goods in its stores.
“People have thin wallets, but they still have needs, dreams, and frustrations,” Juvencio Maeztu told Fortune.
In November, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon suggested the era of high inflation in the U.S. was over, and shoppers may soon begin to experience a contraction in prices—known as “deflation”—in company stores.
