We are immensely pleased to welcome into the HDK catalog Mr. Graham Simpson, a champion of electronic music who was hidden in his little house up there in the north east of England. It is reductive to place Graham's music under a specific tag because he is able to release amazing albums in any genre or subgenre that can in some way be traced back to the definition of electronic music. Albums like this “Electrical Storm at the Micro Station”, which will surely make rejoice the lovers of old records by Bob James, Vangelis and Casiopea. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “Electrical Storm At The Microstation” is an album inspired by the constantly changing weather and climate of the Earth. credits released May 29, 2024 All the sounds, including all sound effects, were generated on a Korg Microstation. The sounds were either played by hand, or were sequenced using an Arturia Beatstep Pro. Arranged, Composed, Performed and Produced by Graham Simpson. Recorded at Broken Troll Studios during January 2021.

Sturgill Simpson, Grahame Lesh, Maggie Rogers, Leon Bridges, Et. Al Welcome Grateful Dead to Kennedy Center
If my words did glow/with the gold of sunshine …
So sung Jerry Garcia, as captured performing “Ripple” with the Grateful Dead in 1980, looming over the Kennedy Center stage, where a live band played the familiar melody to the isolated, long-ago vocals.
In the balcony, Trixie Garcia wiped away a tear while living Dead men Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart - part of the Kennedy Center honorees class of 2024 - looked on.
Sturgill Simpson then began to sing. He handed over a few lines to Grahame Lesh, who delivered then under a huge photo of his late father, Phil, also being inducted with his surviving bandmates. Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda (guitar) and Weir’s Wolf Bros Don Was (bass) and Jeff Chimenti (piano) also lended a hand to this countrified “Ripple,” which was utterly effective despite the cheesy presence of a VW bus and some fake, very straight-looking, Dead Heads on stage swaying uncomfortably to the music.
youtube
The same band backed Maggie Rogers and Leon Bridges as they positively butchered “Friend of the Devil.” Rogers kicked it off as a mawkish, adult-contemporary ballad before, with the band adding some tempo, she and Bridges oversung and dramatized the words in an apparent effort to make Grateful Dead music something it is not.
The song choices - both Garcia/Robert Hunter collaborations - also said much about the Kennedy Center’s policy of only honoring living artists (Phil Lesh died after the inductees were announced). If Hunter and Garcia don’t deserve posthumous props, their songs were not appropriate in this circumstance.
