Missed this one—and every time I’ve looked back at the 2024 calendar at a race I’ve missed I’ve been like “WHY, though. What could I possibly have been doing.” So for the sake of eliminating the mystery for my future self, I was demonstrating outside an ICE detention facility, which is one of very few actually valid reasons I would want to miss the Southern 500. At one point, we needed to move out of the way for a car that was coming to visit someone who was incarcerated, and on the walkie they said "a Subaru." I assumed it would be a Forester or something, but then a WRX with a big ol' wanggggg and an exhaust snap-crackle-popping up a storm rolled through. ✌️

As far as the race goes, congratulations to Chase Briscoe on Week 2 of the Marisa Briscoe Revenge Tour!

I was glad I was a part of his tenure in IndyCar. He called my last race win at Iowa, which was his last race, which is really cool. And I actually thought of that before that race: ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I won the race? Leigh’s last race he did. That’ll be a nice memory for me there of Leigh.’ Gonna miss that voice. He used to call races at Echo Valley in Toowoomba, where I’m from. Two guys from little racing circles in Australia that made it here in America. It’s pretty cool. We’re gonna miss him.

MY TRIBUTE TO THE INDYCAR ON NBC CREW!! i cant believe there’s only one race left until we move to fox for the foreseeable future…i am so happy we got to see this crew together for so long!!! i hope as many of them can go with the series to fox as possible but i know that’s not gonna be a given guarantee….but we’ll see! thank you to the indycar on nbc crew for giving us many laughs and memorable moments 🏎️💗💖

not to linger on the georgina "collapsing mannequin" event but not even larry david could write high comedy that powerful. the initial "oh boy... there's been an accident of a different kind" promptly followed by "we should point out that is NOT a real person", and then the now-iconic running commentary "what if she stuck the landing" and "by the way her name is georgina" and "we've lost james hinchcliffe as well as georgina" and finally "alex palou leads by 3 seconds.... oh don't show us again we're never gonna get hinch back" i just..... we haven't seen a comedy troupe as compelling as the NBC indycar commentators since monty python. leigh diffey in particular has no business being that fucking funny.
