The Haunted Asteroid

Star Trek #19
Good.
Ghosts? Zombies? What's going on?
This is a cracking adventure. One that would have worked just fine on the TV show. (With some minor corrections for canon.) Spock, McCoy, Sulu and Scotty get some decent moments but vanish mid-story for quite a while. That leaves Kirk alone with the sexy scientist lady. Very reminiscent of the TV show. The mystery works. So does the reveal at the end. Definitely not something you could guess in advance.
On Sale Date: May 17, 1973.
Arnold Drake (3 of 21).
Alberto Giolitti (17 of 33).
8/10

Magnificent Musketeer Tournament
Constance Bonacieux Poll 2 - Round 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Constance - Raquel Welch The Three Musketeers 1973, The Four Musketeers 1974
She has the intrigue. She has the political ties. She has the beauty. She has the married to a husband way too old for her, and in a world of M. Bonacieux being made into her father, we must applaud a Constance who survives a shit husband and gets into a bit of infidelity. Maybe more than a bit. We also get to see the whole of her kidnapping arc. In terms of book fidelity 73/74 really are doing the most, but Constance in particular stands out as a character who is often shafted, being allowed to do her whole thing with neither reduction or exaggeration. Queen.
Constance - Julie Delpy The Three Musketeers 1993
93's book accuracy is all but nonexistent, but judging on just what we're presented with, I love this Constance so much. She's witty, she's gracious, she's besties with the Queen, she participates in the final fight. She could be doing more to drive the plot forward, but I like the glimpses we get of her as a political player; 93 is just too focused on swashing buckles to let any of that play out when Curry isn't on-screen. I'm giving this Constance extra points because she is French and her accent is so lovely.

Additional Propaganda under the cut
Raquel Welch:
This was the first version of the story I saw and I remember thinking she was so gorgeous. Looking back as an adult she was. She is also genuinely very funny and while a bit of a damsel in distress still manages to be a fun character  I also got incredibly upset when [redacted] in the second film. That scene stayed with me for a long time

Julie Delpy:
She’s introduced by pulling a gun on D’Artagnan, if that doesn’t sell you on her, I don’t know what will.

Image description: A long, six-story building. The window frames on the sixth floor are bent and warped from heat, and smoke is coming out of some of the openings. Fire truck ladders are reaching up to aim water at the fire.

One Dress a Day Challenge
September: Bond Films
Live and Let Die / Jane Seymour as Solitaire
Not my favorite Bond film, but it does have some great costumes. Solitaire's gowns are all elaborate, romantic, and extravagant in that late 1960s/early 1970s sort of way. This one has a matching cloak which we sadly only get a very brief glimpse of, and apparently it wasn't included in the display exhibit for some reason.
The costume designer for this film was Julie Harris.
