Goth/Borusa Married CoupleHeadcanons I need to describe because the brainrot I have about these two gay Timelords is insane. WARNING: ONE HEADCANON ABOUT TIMELORD VIAGRA.
1. Borusa is terrible at mechanical work and is always amazed when Goth can fix a broken garbage disposal or fix the shower head. However, Goth has no idea what he is doing when it comes to dealing with young adults and children. And it’s hilarious when he attempts interaction because he comes off like an awkward step dad. Mostly this is because he is the Deca’s step dad they didn’t want.
2. Goths older family members *hate* Borusa due to his lower status family and teaching job. They believe it’s a waste of time for him to tutor students at the academy when he could make more tutoring privately. Goth’s Housemother even insinuated he seduced Goth to leech off of him. Goth’s cousins, his canonical brother Rath, and his friends can see the chemistry and think they are cute together. Borusa wins his housemother by helping the Chapterhouse’s youngest learn to read, a task that all of them struggled with.
3. In contrast, Borusa’s cousins and Housefather are terrifying and a few have some shady business partners. Despite Borusa being different, they love their cousin and support his passions. This is all fine and dandy except his Housefather pulled a gun at Goth after receiving word that Goth’s Housemother talked poorly of Borusa in a semi public matter. Luckily, Borusa’s cousins knew Goth well enough to calm down their Housefather. Goth got him some very high quality cigars for Otherstide and they are now in very good standing.
4. Borusa joked once about Goth needing Timelord Viagra as they were getting older and Goth was so mad at insinuating his parts were not working that he refused to talk to Borusa for a whole day.
5. The two cannot function in the same room without holding hands or being like right smack against each other.
6. The Deca take around six months to begin warming up to Goth. The first to crack besides Millenia was surprisingly Drax as he realized Goth kept up with skimmer racing and used to do it frequently while younger. This happens during one of Goth’s visits to Borusa’s weekend detentions and Borusa was pissed because Drax enjoyed talking to Goth in that detention, therefore not learning his lesson.
7. There was an occasion where an Academy faculty member walked in on them kissing and Borusa called off the next day in pure shame.
8. Borusa’s idea of vacation is sitting on a beautiful beach, sipping a cocktail with a curly straw of Rassilon, and reading his fucking gossip columns he denies reading. Goth loves doing bushcraft hunting adventuring (as we see in The Deadly Assassin lmaoo) so they tend to compromise by spending the winter holiday in a semi-rustic cabin where Goth can use his hunting permit. However, Borusa covers his eyes when Goth processes it as he is freaked out by the whole thing. Borusa does enjoy seeing Goth shirtless and chopping wood for the stove so a win is a win as far as he is concerned.
Okay that is all of the brainrot for now. Let me know what you think!
(I’m tagging @gallifreyfallsandwinters because you asked!)

things that keep me up at night:
the fact that there can never be a true, legitimate right answer to whether gallifrey is pronounced galli-free or galli-fray, or whether tardis stands for “time and relative dimensions in space” or “time and relative dimension in space” bc those two things have literally been flip flopping based on serial/doctor/particular actor speaking the words since they were first ever introduced
#personal#i've been specifically listening for them in my classic who watchings and they change like every time#IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW#literally WITHIN the single serial the deadly assassin different time lords pronounce gallifrey different ways!!!!#the doctor and goth pronounce it galli-free but borusa pronounces it galli-fray!!! gahh!!!

The Deadly Assassin time:
tldr: more lore stuff -> regeneration cycles, the presidency and sort of how it works, chancellery guard, artifacts of rassilon, cia named, chapters and their colors, the matrix, the eye of harmony. crispys there. the time lords suck and edit events to fit their narrative. spandrell and engin should maybe not have jobs
'long peaceful history' i'm choosing to believe this is propoganda
their records say that there are no type 40s in service, doctors is removed from the register which is interesting since the time lords previously had possession of it but didn't reregister it
there are a few lines here that make me curious about the exact bounds of the capitol and time lord architecture in general, he landed outside of it, but still within the citadel presumably, and a building is referred to being a "mere fifty three stories high"
there are keys for different models of tardis, don't seem to need ones specific to a tardis to get in
linear gallifreyan writing
the chancellery guard uniforms don't look particularly protective or practical (more for ceremonial than practical purposes?)
first mention of the cia by name (they think the doctor is a cia agent, which is interesting, do the cia have seperate files to everyone else? who am i kidding probably)
chapters get mentioned, the doctor is established as prydonian (arcalian and patrex chapters also mentioned, no others named but there is an acknowledgement of others existing) (also color coding by chapter)
prydonian chapter: noble, 'notoriously devious', has produced the most presidents
borusa is said to be leader of prydonian chapter (he's wearing patrex colors though)
what exactly is the 'prydonian birthright'
actually how to chapters even work, are you born into them, test into them, choose an academy to go to (prydon academy is mentioned i belive, i did not write this down), a secret fourth thing, or some sort of combo)
time lord clothing follows much the same pattern as in the war games, they cover pretty much everything but heads and hands, though they did add the weird hats and collars for this
the fancy robes seen on the time lords in the panopticon are rarely worn, other examples of more typical robes seen on other time lords (these ones look easier to move in, typically a long robe/tunic with sleeves that end around the elbow and long sleeves that look more like a typical shirt under)
the walls are very green
actually everything is pretty green
why is the capitol so green
and there's crispy, hi crispy
who is the gold usher? seems to be someone in relation to the president (also more color coding stuff, this guys gold, president is white and gold)
presidential succession and election procedures are interesting, the president names a successor (though there was still talk of a preferred candidate, does this have any influence? i mean given that goth was not chosen probably not), but in the case of no successor there needs to be an election in the next 48 hours (very much not enough time for a proper election)
also curious as to how long presidential terms last/how they even work with the whole regeneration thing, pandak iii lasted 900 years but the "fellows these days" only last a few centuries each
"weren't you expelled or something"
runcible recognizes the doctor before he recognizes that he's regenerated -> they're not recognizing each other by appearance
"his supremacy" fucked up political system if i've ever seen one
love that the stazers just look like cool scifi rifles (also the stazer noises, the very iconic and recognizable stazer noises <- a note that will be relevant later)
bio extracts show what a person has done, there is one for every time lord (they are also color coded by chapter)
"precognitive vision is impossible" buddy you are literally time lords i refuse to believe that
another time lord uses an earth expression, interesting
it is custom for the incoming president to pardon political prisoners
everyone here sucks, this is predictable, given that they are time lords
article 17 -> no candidate for president can be restrained/imprisoned (didn't catch the specific wording of this one), the doctor puts himself in the run for president so he has time to prove his innocence since the trial they give him is pretty much a sham (much like the one from the war games it seems to be more for show than anything else, the doctor is not given representation and they have a clear agenda from the start)
also curious as to what the rest of their constitution is like
shaboggans mentioned (apparently often brought in for vandalism)
"last bang of the drum" used as some sort of time indication (?)
stazers don't do much damage to things other than body tissue
the other time lords don't know who the master is, the doctor seems offended by this
multiple time lords are killed, but no regeneration is shown for any of them (why is this? i mean at least with runcible its just a stab in the back, that shouldn't be bad enough to prevent a regeneration)
amplified panatropic computations -> combined knowledge of the dead time lords, used to monitor and predict life and events in the capitol (does this extend to life outside the capitol, do they even really care about that)
time lords explicitly stated as a psychic species
time lord brains are scanned and downloaded/copied at the moment of their death
"its never been done" in reference to going inside the matrix, we then proceed to see this happen on multiple occasions, so sure buddy, its never been done
the matrix is like a dreamscape, its a mix between physical and nonphysical, thoughts can influence the events and environment
"his brain must have an unusually high level of artron energy" what is this supposed to mean, is the doctor better as withstanding psychic damage or something (also first mention of artron energy?)
there's a lot of human seeming stuff within the matrix -> possibly due to the influence of the doctor or the master
also interesting how goth is wearing 'human' clothes but the doctor is wearing what he was wearing in the real world
they still need to drink water in the matrix (also the doctor was fully going to drink stagnant water if it hadn't been poisoned, don't know how this guy has survived this long, i hoped leela taught him a thing or two)
"can employ his own artron energy for defense"
time seems to move faster within the matrix, events of the whole episode only take around four minutes
the whole panatropic net apparently only has a few thousand time lord minds in it (how many time lords are there/have there been and when was this set up? is it missing minds, or do they just have such long lifespans and a relatively low population that there just aren't that many to begin with)
"vaults and foundations dating from the old times" was the capitol just built on top of a preexisting city? why? when? (well the old times i guess, but that's vague)
goth was off of gallifrey -> why? when do normal time lord leave the planet and why, what about political officials like goth?
they're editing the telling of events to serve their own purposes, making up evidence to fit their version of events as well
establishment of the regeneration cycle and the fact that it has a limit
this is either saying that there's no special requirement to be president and any time lord can hold the position or that its a symbolic position and i'm not sure which
president is said to hold the symbols of the old times (aka the artifacts of rassilon)
so i've decided to watch through every episode that gallifrey appears in and take notes on them (not doing this for every episode a non doctor time lord is in because that's too many) for the purposes of either ranking them, figuring out the lore, or later comparing eu depictions of time lords to how they're shown in the show, i'll figure it out later. this little intro thing is basically just for myself to make a post where i can put the highlights of my notes (very much not putting all of them since so far its been an average of 1.5 pages of notes per episode)

Back to School Shopping
(A Doctor Who Academy Era and Goth/Borusa Fanfic. Warning it gets gay at the end lmaoo )
“Well first I need to look at the clearance section. I like to get extra stylus’s for the students’ tablets here if they break or damage the few they are issued by the academy.” Cardinal Borusa said pushing the cart that hovered along the floor towards the back of the school supplies store with Cardinal Goth tagging along with him.
“Why don’t the students bring their own extras? Aren’t your students in their 40s and older for the most part?” Goth asked with a confused look. Borusa sighed and and tossed a few marked down multipacks after examining them into the cart.
“Yes, they are older for the most part, but some of them do not come from houses that send them money for these things. My house sent me ten credits a week as an allowance for everything, I could barely afford shampoo. Next is court approved legal pads for the graduate students. ” Borusa explained moving down the aisle immersed in the school shopping
“They don’t provide them to you like they used to?” Goth asked showing Borusa a stylus marked down 90% with a naked Cerulean person with only a ceremonial collar made of leaves.
“That is abhorrent and not going into my classroom. But to answer your question those disgusting members of the school board decided that graduate student supply budgets are not necessary for our planets further policy attorneys.” The professor grumbled grabbing half off ten legal tablets.
“I mean they in theory should be working at least part time. Sendok thinks you mother hen the students too much.” Goth said with a smile.
“I had a student around a century ago attend a preliminary hearing as an intern graduate prosecutor forget to bring a tablet and I was the one to get chewed out by Inquisitor Darkel for being unprepared. I will not be having that happen again.” Borusa sighed rubbing his face at the memory of the ice cold stare the timelady gave him.
“I see. She can be a bit. Temperamental at times.” Goth agreed. He found most Timeladies not enjoyable to find company with.
“Next is clearance decorations and a few extra light bulbs for my desk. Drax stole four of them last year and became furious every time I would produce another.” Borusa chuckled grabbing five light bulbs and placing them into the cart gently.
“Did you discipline him?” Goth asked with a slight look of concern.
“Well of course, he didn’t get the satisfaction of disrupting my day. Besides when he blew up another teachers lab equipment trying to microwave my homework assignment he was in detention for every lunch for the next semester. He stole and did nothing else.” Borusa explained marking off his list.
“You wanted decor to look at next? What decor did you need?” Goth asked. Borusa looked at the section
“Oh I just like to look but I am not finding this age appropriate at all.” Borusa said looking at posters aimed for younger students on “Who Was Lord Rassilon” and “What is the High Council?”.
“Oh? I may purchase this one for the next Prydonian Chapter Meeting” Goth smirked pointing at the poster labeled “Be respectful and listen to your peers!”
“I second that Lord Goth. Place it in the Chancellors office too.”
***
They made their way to the regular priced area of social studies materials. Borusa pushed the cart looking around when he stopped in his tracks spotting a section he hadn’t seen before.
“‘Home schooling materials?’” Borusa asked out loud in horror.
“Oh yes I know a few people who are at least home schooling up to fifth grade and then sending children to the the academy later.” Goth commented.
“What on Rassilon’s great legacy would lead someone to do that instead of sending their child to the best academy in the galaxy!?” Borusa remarked gazing at the work tablets in disgust.
“And to think I spend tax dollars here at this establishment to receive products to nurture my students. I want an explanation to this nonsense!” Borusa said marching to the front desk.
“‘Nurturing?’ Goodness gracious, Borusa please come here. You really do mother them too much. They are not your children and you cannot control and parent every child on the planet yourself.” Goth said shaking his head as he followed with the cart.
“Of course I mother some of them! Some parental figures in these houses are not fit to run an errand to a grocery store successfully, nevertheless a child. It’s our jobs to fulfill that role and establish a bond between the child and state from an early age so that they associate ‘security’ and ‘happiness’ with ‘staying out of prison and listening to authority’” Borusa said as they reached the help desk.
“Hello sirs how may I help you?” The young clerk at the desk asked with a sweet smile. Goth shot Borusa a look to cool his anger.
“Hello there, I was looking to inquire on why this well established and beloved store is selling ‘Home schooling’ materials when we have six excellent academies teaching our citizens paid by the tax dollar already?” Borusa asked nicely, his tone staying polite.
“Oh, well we got that section this year after we ran a market simulation and found that some houses would be interested especially in the Cerulean and Patrexian Chapters. There is a trend on the Matrix social boards that some parents feel their teaching is superior to Professors and TAs at the Academies. We, of course, mean no disrespect towards you. ” the clerk smiled nervously at the two Cardinals at their desk.
“Ah makes sense. Come on Borusa, stop getting emotional over their marketing tactics.” Goth said starting to walk away.
“Well, their research is wrong. The first five years of education is the most important in a Timetots life. Who is the publisher? I want to write them a paper.” Borusa asked.
“Sure, the publisher. Let me see…” the clerk said typing at the holographic screen.
“Yes, it’s Craftstone Academics Inc is the publisher. We only get some homeschooling supplies really from them. They started as a student tablet decorating company.” The clerk said with a nod. Borusa sighed.
“Nothing is sacred, not even pedagogy. I am not mad at you my friend, I fear for this planet.” Borusa sighed. The clerk gave a confused look to Goth who smiled taking a hand around Borusa’s shoulders guiding him away from the spooked clerk.
“Well, I’m sorry our display upset you. I do have a coupon for teacher stamps if you are interested.” The clerk said producing a holographic sheet.
“Ooo Lord Borusa~” Goth grinned with a raised eyebrow.
“Thank you so much, miss?” Borusa asked with a smile.
“Mr. Alek. And you are welcome. I see your cart is full so hopefully this helps.” The clerk responded with a smile
“Yes, thank you!” Borusa smiled with a slight bow before taking the cart and Goth and heading to another section.
“Stamps. I need a dinosaur or if they have one of a human that would be fun. I have a few students interested in Earth Culture.” Borusa explained. Goth looked at the other Cardinal confused.
“Earth? That polluted planet where humans think they came from?” Goth asked. Borusa laughed.
“Yes, and while I am not an expert of humanity I do know that on that planet they call a few species of birds cardinals and I taught it in one of my second year student classes and they were obsessed because I look like the North American Cardinal apparently when I am cross with them.” Borusa explained finding a stamp that read “Excellent work” with a large lizard smiling in the background and put it in the cart.
“You are a Cardinal to a nine year old tot not because you were elected but because you look like an Earth bird that is likely extinct by this point because you get upset when they misbehave.” Goth repeated rubbing his temples.
“Yes.”
“Were we like this at their age? Are you sure this isn’t a de-evolutionary trend recently? Goth asked honestly. Borusa paused his browsing to think of his education and the amount of times Goth would lead their study sessions astray.
“No, you were worse. You still have the attitude of a brute regarding those you find to be in your way. And you wade too close to the line putting your hand so close to my neck in public.” Borusa whispered in a hushed tone. Goth smirked.
“Oh really? I seem to remember you enjoying our hands on study sessions” Goth said softly liking around before moving a piece of hair from Borusas face that was turning red and flushed.
“You have no proof!” Borusa argued softly with his finger pointed at Goth.
“I have evidence at my condo. I have my Borusa folder.” Goth smirked. Borusa’s eyes narrowed as he smiled.
“I have a folder for you too. Just in case.”
“Make sure you send the CIA the good nude photos of me. I’ll try to send ones that don’t have you drooling.”
“You are a B-A-S-T-A-R-D. And disgusting. And a terrible politician. And you were a terrible defense attorney.” Borusa whispered with a smug smile, standing right in front of him attempting to seem dominant despite Goth a few centimeters taller.
“You are a Government branded whore. I could not be happier to have a spoilt rotten Professor who produces the next generation of assholes in the council. I love you.” Goth grumbled back wishing they were not at in public but at home where he could kiss him.
“I love you too.”

The Master: *turned evil cause of some crazy long list of traumatic events and mental illness*
Goth: *turned Evil to become Lord President*
Magnus: *Borusa blackmailed his ass and he got kicked off the planet*
The Mad Monk: *smoked so many hot doinks in amish that he became Catholic and liked pranks*
And then there’s Borusa’s dumbass who became evil because he simped for Rassilon too hard and had shit he wanted to do.

Right. A lot of thoughts.
Great review! You really put down what makes this story a poor start. This is not a story to really draw people in. You'd expect that this would highlight the Eighth Doctor a bit but he just goes around meeting the other seven Doctors. I suppose it could be called like a crash course in Doctor Who? But instead it feels like... well, Time and Time Again as a book, revisiting old adventures. At least with TATA it's mainly just a page a Doctor as it was telling a story in 10 pages.
And the beginning was fun, with a great splash page of various villains on Earth.
Which brings me onto my next point...
The cocaine plot is not a great way to grab people. Going back to Coal Hill School, where it all began. Not inherently bad. But then it goes into what feels like another sort of plot. Of course, the premise of Doctor Who means it can go into all sorts of plots, so I'm not going to say that DW books aimed for a mature audience can't do a plot around drug dealing. I think that Damaged Goods did it and that sounds great. But it doesn't feel like a great way to start it off. And then it just gets forgotten for most of the book before being resolved at the end.
If you wanted something around drug dealing it could have been mentioned in passing, but it takes up a large portion but not enough to feel like it is justified, so it sits awkwardly there.
And the time-freeze... to be honest the rules around time travel aren't really consistent even among writers (hello Moffat!) but even for DW this is strange. I'm reminded of Twice upon a Time... which I prefer.
With something like The Eight Doctors you'd expect it to be more fun. Like even if The Power of the Doctor might be a bit messy in plot terms... yes, I'm criticising a Chibnall story, you must be spitting out whatever the Australian equivalent of tea is right now... it's at least kind of fun. It doesn't have anything as fun as the Master dancing to Bony M!
And had a sort of meta-commentary on fandom... which I won't go too into here. The other Doctors appearing was at least more fun.
There are some parts that could be fun. 8 and 6 in the timeline that... is there. Apparently. They do some political shennanigans but then it just goes weird. I haven't read Goth Harvest but as you said, it's basically redoing that. And it's weird seeing benevolent Rassilon when we're pretty used to Rassilon being this evil dictator, from Zagreus to Hell Bent.
And you mention Hell Bent, yeh, that's good, subverting and all that. Down to playing with the strongman idea in 12 deposing the President and briefly taking control of the planet then running away... again. I'm losing count.
But here Borusa can just come back and sorts it out and it diminishes The Five Doctors a bit, as Rassilon can just let them out, like some benevolent Underworld ruler who gives someone a temporary pass. Maybe the implication that they can be redeemed could work? But as you said, it's redoing another story.
I prefer Engines of War anywhere. That does Borusa as well and really looks back to The Five Doctors. I suspect that you'll enjoy it more when you get to it.
And the whole Time Lord to assassinate the Doctor... well, it feels like stuff we've done before.
Maybe it's like The Timeless Children in that it suffers from having too many stories. I hope that you aren't drinking Australian tea again! Though was kind of doing something... new. Sort-off. And at least that story has better villains!
Ryoth is not that interesting. Even the loathsome scheming Time Lord in Engines of War is better as a villain.
And the drug dealer guy... well, if they want him to be a villain he should have a full story!
Yes, I am aware that I sound very shallow with reasons for liking stories but what's Doctor Who without the villains?
(Also, Tumblr is much better for Gifs.)
I've already talked about multi-Doctor stories a bit on Twitter... It would be interesting to do a full Tumblr essay discussing Multi-Doctor stories. And maybe how writers have tried being a bit more experimental with them, which is kind of inevitable due to how many Doctors there are now.
Hence why The Edge is preferable. Not the first time they've done something like this in DW but it's there now!
Which makes me think how Timewrym: Revelation is a better multi-Doctor story. Not quite the seven Doctors but better.
Is that Dimensions in Time? Moving on...
Having the Doctor revisiting their past lives could be fun. You could have some character stuff. Like when talking to 2 about coming to the end of his life or whatever.
Huh, another comparison to Twice upon a Time.
3 and 8... that could have been its' own short story if Terrance Dicks wanted it to be. Could they do the current Doctor meeting other Doctors by different authors if The Eight Doctors had been a 35th anniversary piece?
The closest we got to that was Happy Deathday. Which is basically a parody of anniversary stories and much more fun for it.
It's a shame that Terrance Dicks made a mess of the start.
And the problematic stuff around women which was also in the start of the VNAs with Timewrym: Genesys. Why do they both start in such a disappointing manner?
At least The Clockwise Man is decent enough.
Well, many more to go! I hope that my own ramblings were of some interest!
At the very least, ideas for future Tumblr essays were thrown around.
I'm sure that your next read of an Eighth Doctor Adventure will be more enjoyable. And good luck for War of the Daleks!
I'm going off to watch scenes at the Edge.
In preparation for Wild Blue Yonder, why not join me as we take our first step into the Eighth Doctor Adventures with The Eight Doctors?
Oh dear.

Basically it's like. Time Lords who use a title as their actual name:
The Doctor
The Master
The Rani
Time lords with names:
Romana
Borusa
Andred
Rodan
Rassilon
Omega
Goth
Drax
Runcible
Time lords who are referred to by the fandom as 'the X' bcos they are never referred to by name:
The Monk
The War Chief
All lists incomplete but just to give an idea of the ratio here!
I'd like to note that this isn't a complaint bcos I'm fully willing to accept this as in universe dishonesty on the part of the Doctor but for ppl unfamiliar with classic who I'd like to note that time lords have names. Like the majority of named time lord characters are not called The X. If anything the reading best supported by the text is that going by 'The X' is a renegade time lord thing.
