The second set almost flowed similarly to the first set, but Alfie/Gordon stayed consistent toward the end of the match. To start, Alfie/Gordon's forehands went after T. Miki/T. Oda's backhand before they generated their break point, which was converted through a forehand winner to break early 1-0 in the first set, where they followed with a swift consolidation to 2-0. They then continued their dominance by starting the next game with a forehand error that got T. Miki's backhand run over before doubling the break to 3-0, but the Japanese second seeds secured their earliest break point thanks to T. Miki's backhand lob before their forehand winner secured their break back to 3-1.
Afterward, T. Miki/T. Oda went back on serve, but Alfie/Gordon responded more aggressively as they began the next game with a backhand winner to set their one-point lead, followed by Alfie's working volley to create their break point before breaking back to 4-1. Conceding one point to start the next game after strengthening their lead with a hold to 5-1, Alfie scored a stunning volley to equalize the point before they ended up having championship points, where even if one of those got saved due to an unreturned serve, Alfie/Gordon sealed the second-set breadstick (6-1) with a functional drop shot to secure their Career Golden Slam as a pair, as well as their Paralympics gold medal this year.

And one by one of my best friends ever. It’s not online, so I don’t want to post the whole thing (and there’s only a link to his book on amazon), but here’s a stanza.
A letter burning in the hearth— Your words fly up in a shower of sparks Become lost in the heavy, swollen clouds, To fall as a benediction of snow.

📸 🎥 Paralympics' YT
The Men's Wheelchair Doubles finals of the 2024 Summer Paralympics featured another classic match between first seeds Alfie Hewett/Gordon Reid, who previously defeated home pair and fourth seeds Frederic Cattaneo/Stephane Houdet 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals, took on second seeds Takuya Miki/Tokito Oda, who stunned fifth seeds Daniel Caverzaschi/Martin de la Puente 5-7, 6-2, [10-8] in the previous round. While the first half of this match had the scoreboard deception because of the competitiveness in the flow, it might not be the case as soon as either of them appeared firmer in this match.
Just 3 points in, Gordon’s finishing volley touch from such an angle paved their way to create their first break point, and even though it was fumbled, the British pair’s other volley created their second break point before they broke early to 1-0. Even if T. Oda’s finishing drop shot to Alfie’s forehand error opened the path for the second seeds to create their break point, Alfie/Gordon still massively held their serves to 2-0. They then used their return depth to start the next game with their forehand winner winning them the first point of the game, but Gordon’s forehand volley to T. Oda/T. Miki’s forehand error secured their initial break point before breaking to 3-0.
However, even though it looked like Alfie/Gordon was on the course to dominate the flow, T. Miki/T. Oda broke back to 3-1 from their forehand side to Alfie/Gordon’s forehand error several points after their slick volley securing their earlier one-point lead (to *3-0 15-30). The Japanese second seeds then saved Alfie/Gordon’s break point that was made due to a +1 forehand error, massively holding to 3-2 to keep in touch before they struck back through their court coverage, causing Alfie’s forehand error to lead *3-2 15-30, but a failed drop shot from T. Miki saved one of their break points before the British first seeds once again scored a gigantic hold to 4-2.
Subsequently, Alfie/Gordon started the seventh game through a forehand winner, but the break point was created due to T. Oda/T. Miki’s failed smash. Even if T. Miki’s forehand winner neutralized the break point to force the deuce, Alfie’s swift forehand return shank turned out to work before they broke to 5-2, thus earning the opportunity to serve for the first set. Ultimately, Alfie/Gordon’s failed volleys and forehand error allowed T. Miki/T. Oda to have 2 break points, but a brilliant finish from Gordon neutralized the second break point before another forehand error forced the deuce on their set point (which was also fumbled due to a double fault in a different occasion), where Alfie/Gordon took the first set 6-2 with an unreturned serve, confirming their firm close to the first set.

From a new interview with Gordon Morris (John Weekes):
Dr Potter was so impressed that he is now in discussions with The Terror creator, David Kajganich, about putting together an audio CD that would include other key cast members alongside Gordon reading from the letters of the characters they portrayed.
