Jikook Week 47 Complete (29/10-05/11/2024)

Their 47th week in the military is now complete and we celebrate with a look back at this week in 2017.

It was a very special week for Jimin and Jungkook marking their first trip together. They went to Tokyo between 28/10 and 31/10 on a trip that JK organised as a birthday present for Jimin, a trip that they are still talking about seven years later.

"We were walking down an alley, there weren't many cars, there was the light from the street lamps.... It was really beautiful. And then Jimin said that his feet hurt and so we walked slowly. These simple things were so fun" Jungkook, Real Love, Beyond the Story

"We went around wearing masks from the move Scream with black fabric covering our bodies, and black umbrellas. When people came over, we took picture, it was fun. We went around people watching, and when we went to the restaurant, we took off our masks and ate" Jungkook, Real Love, Beyond the Story

They wandered the streets, went shopping, ate good food and visited Disneyland before returning to Korea on the 31/10.

The first Golden Closet Film came out about a week later on 08/11 much to JK's delight as its talented creator and Jimin as its star.

No one before or since has shown Jimin quite like JK does here. He is completely open, relaxed and joyful. He beams at JK behind the lens. This is what it must feel like to be in Jimin's inner circle and have his complete trust. It is a Jimin that we don't really see anymore, although perhaps, in Are You Sure? we caught glimpses of that guy.

On 31/10, Jimin posted this photo of them looking relaxed and happy with an emoji caption. The trip seems to have done them a lot of good and brought them even closer.

The trip took place during a break in the Wings tour between the Taiwan concerts on the 21-22/10 and the Macau concert on 04/11. If you want to know how crazy this time was for them and how hard they were working nothing can demonstrate that more clearly than the Burn the Stage series and in this case Episode 8 which shows the October and November leg of the tour and its final concert in Seoul on 10th December 2017.

It is in this episode that Taehyung asks us to love all seven of the members of BTS which seems worth repeating at this moment.

Watching their 2017 selves talking about what they learnt about each other and about themselves during the Wings Tour made me nostalgic for a time when I wasn't even in the fandom and hopeful for the future that they deserve, pursuing the next steps of their musical journey together as a group. Just over seven months to go before that future can become a reality and all we need to do until then is hold it together, ensure we put out our share of positivity to balance the incessant toxicity of SM and TRUST IN BTS.

1108: Facts and observations

•Day 0

1108 started on the 8th of November of 2015.

Jimin uploaded a video of him and Jungkook to twitter:

On the 26th of January 2016, Jk uploaded a small snippet of a song he was covering.

•Day 100

And on the 15th of February of 2016, Jk uploaded the entire song Nothing Like Us and noted to listen to the lyrics as they were expressing what he wanted to say:

In Korean culture, parents celebrate 100 days after a child is born. This is to indicate that the child made it through the first vulnerable phase in their life. In the same manner, the 100 days are celebrated by Korean couples.

And this is what Jk had to say 100 days after the 8th of November of 2015:

On 08/11/2016, a year later, Jimin posted another video of them:

On Oct. 28, 2017, Jungkook treated Jimin to a trip to Tokyo. It was because of this trip, that Jungkook released gcfTokyo on Nov. 08, 2017.

A fan used the images in the video and was able to determine the hotel and room jikook stayed at. It was room number 1108.

The video also used the song There For You by Troye Sivan:

On the 26th of January 2018, in a Japanese fancafe, Jimin gifted Jungkook a drawing of a set of champagne glasses and a bottle. Note the details of the glasses.

On the 25th of April 2018, a day before the 900 day milestone, Jimin had a vlive where it was obvious he wasn't alone in the room. He kept looking to the side, laughing shyly and explained:

On August 3rd 2018, Jk posted a selfie while they were all filming BV3:

During BV3, jikook were able to look around the city alone, and have a boat date under the moonlight.

As you all may know 10:13 is also known as Jimin ssi, or Jimin time. It only makes sense that this day would be special to jikook too.

On the 16th of August 2018, Jimin tweeted a series of 3 tweets:

Jungkook was the only member that appeared in the photos with Jimin. It is also interesting to note the 2 butterfly temporary tattoos he had on his hand.

On Feb 22, 2022, Jk uploaded a story on insta where he is in a car, listening to So Good by Joan. The story was labeled 23:08 even though he uploaded it at 1:24 am.

On the 26th of October 2022, Jk uploaded a photo of himself while he was in Qatar. He uploaded the photo at 11:08 Korea time and, 5:08 Qatar time.

On the 2nd of February 2023, Jimin answered a question on weverse at exactly 23:08. The question is now deleted.

•Day 2684

During Jungkook hosted a series of lives on White Day, 14th of March 2022. His first live was started at 8:11 pm:

During these lives, Jk changed to various outfits and had an extensive playlist. One of the songs that was included was There For You.

On the 1st of September 2023, Jk hosted a short live to thank the fans for being present with him during so many birthdays. He ended his live quickly and it lasted 8:56 minutes:

My impressions

Based on Korean customs, celebrating different day milestones is typical in a Korean couple.

While some may think that jikook started dating on the 8th of November 2015, I think that's when they decided to be intimate with each other.

I feel like a jikook kiss had already happened since the last time Jimin asked Jk for a kiss publicly was in September 2015 for Jk's birthday. From there, one can only think that things proceeded quite quickly.

I think that in recent years, we have observed less mentions of 1108 because of BTS' popularity and so many fans expecting something from jikook.

It's possible that jikook has decided to not make these milestones known like they did before, but every now and then, they still reference that number. Who knows when they will do it again.

Do you know anything about GCF Tokyo as you only saw it for the first time a month or so ago? As how jm didn't even know jk was filming GCF (golden closet film it's jk's brand you could say as in it's his thing) or anything like that?

I actually bought and read Beyond the Story lol, and I know they talked about it in one of the chapters about just how meaningful the trip was for them. Thinking about it now actually, the fact that that specific memory was included in the book at all is fascinating. Outside of that and the video itself, (and I think one bts clip of JK uploading it and RM asking JK to upload one of Tae for the views) that's it.

I recently watched all the Golden Closet films, and I must admit that they evoked strong emotions of longing and sentiment in me, they have this vibe that I can't describe. seeing the members together, doing regular activities, spending time together, fooling around on the beach or on set through Jk's eyes feels almost intimate. Each of these films has such an atmosphere of peace and harmony, creating a kind of memorial for fans and also members. I can imagine a time in the future when boys will recall these precious memories from their youth

Yeah, you can tell Jungkookie is a romantic who loves nostalgia and sadness haha.

I think his GCFs are already treasured memories to himself and us, but, obviously, as BTS grow older, these videos will become an even bigger record of his youth and of that time in his life when BTS kept growing bigger and bigger yet they had no idea what was coming.

There is intimacy and love in his GCFs for sure, especially in the Tokyo one - for obvious reasons if you know me at all - and in the Saipan one for the same reasons (I think you're describing that one), but also in the Helsinki one, which was like the last GCF we thought we'd get and it's a love letter to all the members, so it's really sweet.

I'm begging Jungkook to do a GCF in Tokyo pt. 2. I'd die.

But, yeah, Jikook aside, I really wish Jungkookie would do one of his GCFs again. Nowadays, it's more like short TikToks and his last one wasn't fully edited like him and it's obvious. I want one of his "real" GCFs again. They're really good, beautiful! Each has its own story, cinematography, emotion, and they're so precious to me. There's a feeling of tenderness to them. Jungkookie is our little genius.

Hey!

Seeing the new GCF in the Golden live stage made me wonder again on how he came about naming his directorial venture as GOLDEN CLOSET FILMS. Don't you think it's interesting that he chose the word closet? It's not a common word and he isn't an English language speaker so how did he decide on it?

Jk has spoken about feeling burdened or "trapped" by the Golden Maknae tag so maybe that can be a connection but there are other words to signify the same sentiment.

What are your thoughts on this?

I tend to lean to him actually having chosen that name because he used to record in his closet. Jk having the nickname Golden Maknae, him recording in his closet… I can totally see one of the members having called that the Golden closet.

The duality of the name is obvious, but I think him having named it that for queer reasons would have been too much on the nose. He’s from South Korea, he’s an Idol, if we’re correct about Tae and Jk they’re hiding their relationship.. I just don’t think he’d choose a name like that on purpose in his situation.

To me the GCF’s do not have a purposefully queer meaning behind them. I think it’s Jk showing us part of his world.

Off topic. But I really wanna know how did the term "Golden Closet Film" appeared? I mean was it JK who named it? I have never seen anyone talk about it but it is bothering me for so long now. The choice of naming "Golden Closet" when we know clearly what it means. Isn't it huge and telling if he named his work Golden Closet intentionally? You know what i am trying to say right? Am I thinking too much? Please correct me if I am.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the name is because Jungkook is called Golden Maknae and because he used to edit his videos, photos and so on in a closet. So he used words that would relate to him, I guess. I think he talked about it once. He also used Golden Closet Studio but I think that was for his photography.

Taekook - The Sesame Street Connection

So Tae posts a picture of Sesame Street characters on Instagram, and most of the ones in it are or could be seen as queer-coded

Bert & Ernie - The original Sesame Street Gay Icons, nuff said.

Big Bird - was created by Kermit Love, who was gay. The character has always been a bit queer and feminine, or at least non-conforming. And let us not forget his friendship with equally queer-coded Mr. Snuffleupagus.

Cookie Monster - is a bit of an outsider and oddball to others (like Oscar and Grover, too)

Elmo - Always comes across as having no gender, and one of the few soft toys that has cross gender appeal with children.

Golden Closet Films

JK created the Golden Closet and filled it with personal things:

Cookie Monster (an outsider), and Kermit (seen as different, soft-spoken (maybe effeminate) and submissive to Miss Piggy). Add to them Bert and Ernie (the Street's) the coded queer icons. Add that to the use of the "closet", it seems JK was always trying to say something by naming his production company as "Golden Closet Films", golden being a reference to himself the Golden Maknae.

Closet - Being "in the closet" is a metaphor for LGBT people who have not disclosed their sexual orientation or gender identity and aspects thereof, including sexual identity and sexual behaviour. It can also be used to describe anyone who is hiding part of their identity because of social pressure (e.g. a conservative country like South Korea).

The Bert and Ernie T-Shirt:

Like I said, Bert & Ernie are clearly queer coded, they share a bed and most gay men recognised them as gay, though closeted. Also, Avenue Q parodied the relationship on broadway.

Additionally, 'The New Yorker' chose to use this image on their cover for the US Supreme Court judgement on Marriage Equality:

Tae choosing to wear it regularly says a lot. We all know he's into his queer references, and this is just another one.

Tan playing with Ernie

For me, the Ernie Yeontan plays with is the same one from JK's Golden Closet, which have black dots for eyes as opposed to the 'X' in later pictures.

A little reminder of how Jungkook could hardly contain his excitement and joy when GCF Tokyo went online.

And he couldn't have made a bigger impression. I mean who wouldn't have been blown away by such a beautiful love letter.
