boring meeting scribble time!

summary: in this one shot/flash forward from the Now You're In My Life storyline, you and Harry recap the big news from your family's Thanksgiving dinner.

a/n: i have a million other asks and things i should be doing first, but the perfect idea came to me when i read it, and the story just flowed from there.

i also feel like i need to explain the title a little. first of all, i suck at/hate naming fics, second of all it's a Harry fic, why not give it a random fruit name? finally, there's this really terrible dad joke that has been running through my family for my entire life (even still to this day). if cantaloupe is motioned, or seen, it's a rush to see who can be the first one to say "can't elope tonight, dad's got the car!" anyway, that joke, and the fruit of it all it just felt right.

“I know, I’ve never seen you make a face like that,” he chuckled. “It was actually pretty adorable.” 

You slapped him lightly on the thigh. “I just… I never in a million years expected that.” 

“You really had no idea?” He glanced over at you before returning his eyes to the road. 

“How could I? They announced their engagement, and were feeding us all this bull shit about wedding planning.” 

“Well,” he interjected. “Technically they did plan a wedding…”

“Shh, nobody needs your semantics.” You joke before looking over at him curiously. “Why? Did you have an idea?” 

He shrugged. “I mean, the trip did seem a little suspicious. They usually only pick one place when they travel.” 

“Yeah, but you have to go through California to get to Hawaii, so I just figured they were killing two birds with one stone.” 

“That’s because you’re so sweet and naive, princess.” 

“Heyyy,” you whined.

“What? It’s one of the things I love most about you.” He reaches over, interlacing his fingers with yours. “I just had a suspicion.” 

Your eyes go wide. “Harry Edward Styles,” you gasp. “You thought my sister was eloping and you didn’t tell me?” 

“No,” he corrected. “I had a suspicion. It’s different. “Do you think your mother will ever forgive them?” He asked, changing the subject. 

You let out a deep breath as you consider his question. “I… I mean sure. But she won’t get over this, talking about it will always be a touchy subject.” You look over to Harry, who spares a quick glance as he’s driving. “I’ve never seen her look so devastated. She’s been talking about my sister and I getting married for as long as I can remember.” You let out a chuckle. “My dad on the other hand…”

“Yeah, he seemed to take it well.” 

“He’s just relieved that she’s not going to hit him up to help pay for a wedding.” You both laugh. 

“What about you?” Harry asks. “What do you think about it?”

You shrug. “I mean, I get why they did it. She’s not out to everyone yet, so it makes sense to want to just have it be for themselves.” You sigh before continuing. “But selfishly, I’m kind of bummed. That was my only chance to be in a wedding party.” 

Harry looks at you curiously. “What do you mean?”

“She’s my sister, we always said we’d be each other’s maids of honor. I don’t have any close enough friends to be asked to be a bridesmaid or anything, so I just don’t get that experience.” 

“You know that’s not true, right?” Harry says, squeezing your hand to comfort you. 

“I love you for trying to make me feel better, but it is true.” 

He shakes his head. “No it’s not. You’re going to be the most important part of my wedding party.” He smiles softly before lifting your joined hands and placing a soft kiss on the diamond ring that he had placed on your finger a few months earlier. 

You’re silent for a moment, observing Harry and his dreamy smile as he keeps his eyes locked on the road, his hand softly stroking your thigh. “Puppy?” 

“Hmm?” He hummed in reply, squeezing your leg gently, as he pulled up to a redlight.  

“Do you wish we were eloping?” 

He looks over to you with a sly smirk. “Princess, the sooner I get to make you my wife the better,” He lifts his hand, cupping your cheek. “But I wouldn’t be doing my job as your future husband if I didn’t give you everything you’ve ever wanted. And that includes the dream wedding you’ve been planning since you were a little girl.” 

Even in the dark car, Harry is able to make out the blush that spreads across your cheeks at his words, making him chuckle. “See, now when you talk like that, how could I not want to stand up in front of every single person I know and declare my love for you.” 

“I know, that’s why I said it,” he teased. “I don’t want you getting any silly ideas about eloping. We already have some very lovely, very non-refundable plans.” 

You let out a bark of laughter at his words and slap his shoulder. “Way to kill the mood.”

“No worries my love, I’ll revive it the second we get home.”

Hi everyone I’m sorry I haven’t updated as much as I planned, but I thought I’d share pics of how everything’s going in my garden (6/23/24)

The tomatoes have exploded and there’s lots of flowers. I’m hoping it’s not too hot and we actually get fruit this year (last year got so hot our tomatoes didn’t even flower during the normal growing season).

Next is the corn, which are also doing really well. It’s the sweet corn variety. Funny story, I planted the corn seeds without knowing you kind of need a lot to get a good crop because it’s wind pollinated. However, we have about 10 mature stalks and I’m hoping to get at least a small harvest. A few of the stalks are taller than me (5’3”/160cm) and one of the ears growing already has silk growing out of the ear.

Next are the cucumbers. One of the plants has a few eggs on the bottoms of the leaves so I used some Sevin dust. I’m hesitant to use neem oil because I’ve noticed lots of ladybugs in the garden and don’t wanna kill them.

The carrots are doing well after being transplanted. Unfortunately I don’t remember when I started the seeds so I’m not sure if they should be farther along by now (I believe I planted around late April/early May—late for seeds I know but I’ve got a long growing season and few frosts).

The various fruit trees/bushes/shrubs are doing well. Pictured are a thorny blackberry vine, an olive tree, a papaya tree, and a babcock peach tree. Everything is doing amazing. The blackberry is producing, the 4 peaches are growing and changing color while the olive, fig and papaya have been putting in some major growth/establishing.

Last is the melon patch. It’s also exploded and there are so many watermelons throughout the whole patch of varying sizes from bb-sized to the one pictured with my hand. I didn’t see any cantaloupe yet, but there’s lots of flowers. I haven’t actually gone into the patch due to how crowded it is (I’m hoping if we do get some we’d be able to see them when they get big enough). I’m estimating we have between 12-15 watermelon at least so far.

However, not everything is doing so well. The rabbits have been so destructive, they killed my producing pole bean, the peppers I transplanted into the ground and most of the radishes, leaving 2 left for us (I did start new seeds though because radishes are some of the quickest vegetables you can grow from seed to harvest).

For things I didn’t cover like the grapes, blueberries, raspberries, guava trees, the apple tree, the lemon tree, various flowers, onions, potatoes, and pineapples, they are all doing good as well. I also wanna add that I did start new bush beans/pole beans as well as various kinds of peppers (jalapeños, hot salsa blend peppers, golden bell peppers) in containers to make up for the ones that got chewed. Hopefully those will make a nice fall harvest. The potatoes are almost ready to be harvested and the blueberries and raspberries have had berries ripen one at a time due to how small they are (this is the first year for berries).

As for other things I have planned, I have a few art pieces I’d like to post if that’s something y’all are interested in. I also would love to talk about my experience with gardening and mental health but any and all posts related to that will be labeled with appropriate trigger warnings.

Fruit Review: The Pepino Melon

I was walking around today in my local store when I came upon this. A fruit I had never seen before. I looked at the label and it said it was a Pepino Melon and that sounded interesting so I decided to buy it. It was pretty expensive for a fruit (like 5$ expensive) so I was hoping it would be tasty.

I took it home and excitedly began to cut it up. The first thing that hit me was it's smell, it smelled like a mixture between a cucumber and a cantaloupe melon which was an interesting combination but It smelled good so it made me a little more excited. The flesh of the fruit is a nice pale golden color and as I cut it up I got to this very unique looking seed cluster!

It almost looked like a brain was holding all of the seeds in place. I'm not going to lie this kind of made me squeamish but I think the only reason for that is the fact that I simply don't like the cores of most fruit. They creep me out for no explainable reason.

Now is when I decided to take a bite. I took a piece cut from the end of the fruit and chewed it up and... Oh my gods. Guys it's disgusting. Guys it tastes so so so bad. It tastes like a rotten cucumber. I barely managed to swallow it down.

I thought that maybe I had just gotten a bad part of it, so I tried a slice closer to where the seed cluster had been (I scraped out the seed cluster because thats what the website i used recommended to do) and low and behold THAT TASTED WORSE. I ran to my trash can with the fruit in my mouth, realized I didn't have a trash bag in place, and fumbled with a trash bag while having the fruit stuck in my mouth. I do not like this fruit. I had to throw it all away because no one else wanted to try some of it and I felt a little bad about that but eughhh. This fruit is not for me.

And yes, I did make sure that I was eating it right, it is a fruit that's meant to be eaten by itself. It just did NOT taste good to me. To anyone who has experience eating this fruit, tell me how you eat it and if my description of the flavor fits what you typically assume the fruit to have. I could have gotten a bad fruit, and if that's the case I'll gladly try the fruit again if there's a way to find the perfectly ripe ones.

and then before you know it, we’re in tobacco land and it’s beautiful. Honeyed, golden, mellow, like nothing else on earth. Gradually it gets smoky, and then the smoke goes down to a dull hum and the powdery, fragrant linden blossoms return.

Naja is inspired by 1920's tobacco fragrances like Tabac Blond, but I think it's unique. It's certainly not like any other tobacco scent I know; it's golden and sun-drenched, a daydreamy afternoon of a fragrance. It’s not overly sweet or heavy, like most “tobacco” scents; instead, it’s all layered, fragrant, powdery and pollen-y nuances. The prettiest snake around.

Jungkook loves it whenever you talk his hair, even though it’s very short now compared to his hair five months ago. But it was too long. It’s nice to have short hair for now.

“Yn do you think I look hotter with short hair or longer hair?” Cannot help and ask you that isn’t until you leave him speechless your next sentence.

Jungkooks why didn’t it surprised because frankly, your libido is almost dead when you’re not pregnant, he has to beg you, and he has to seduce you in order to get some from you, but..

When you’re pregnant you’re a whole different person, and he likes it very much, “what? Yn are you insane? I did not bring you here just so I could have sex.. not at all.” he blinks twice.

You’re almost 6 months pregnant now-and your belly is quite out. “I don’t wanna hurt the baby. So no sex.” he cannot believe that he’s denying you for something that he really wants but he can get a little rough. And you’re really fragile right now especially.

This is also a golden opportunity for him. “ did you really just say five rounds? Wow… where is my yn? And who are you woman?” He jokes, laughing, his ears definitely feel really hot because you’re making him really shy.

And mind you, he is he is the one that did this to you.

Jungkook not to look into your eyes because he might actually blush like a tomato, “ahhh come on, let me massage your feet or your shoulders tell me where it pains.” he just wants to take care of you because it’s the least he can do really.

He knows that child birth is not an easy thing at all- he has watched you give birth to all of his children, and it’s a really disturbing experience even though he has seen a lot of blood and gore in his life.

“How do you do it? Seriously like I actually feel bad for you, can you even see your feet?” How are you even so eager to give birth? He remembers, how scared you were when you were pregnant with jinseoul. But also, you were just 22.

I read this as wedding, it says weeding... Congratulations on the weeding! Tomatoes truly aren't foe everyone, but watermelons are awesome as well! What kind of watermelons are you planting? The golden ones are my personal favorite!

Ahh, yeah, I did weeding! There was poisonous hemlock that needed to go.

For watermelons, I've got uhhh 3 different kinds that I've entirely forgotten the names of. I'll find out eventually I suppose. I've also got cantaloupes to plant, the peas, and then my ground cover. There's already a fair amount of stuff growing out there right now, some of which is allowed to live, and some of which I might pull eventually.

Nothing says summer like melon🍈🍉

Here’s my melon patch that’s 10x10ft. It mostly consists of watermelon but I do have a few cantaloupe growing as well (the lily pad-shaped leaves). The watermelon I have growing are regular watermelon (red), organic sugar baby watermelon (personal-sized/red), orange watermelon, and yellow golden honey watermelon. I only have about 5 regular cantaloupe growing but it’s common to have different color watermelon where I’m located.

Personally I’ve never grown watermelon but my father’s grandfather grew watermelons on a farm and my dad also grew personal sized watermelon years ago when I was really little but I’ve never done them before (along with the cantaloupe, but I’m super excited anyways).

As you can see everything looks amazing. These were directly sown into the ground around late March to late April. We planted the red and orange watermelon in late March but I couldn’t find yellow watermelon seeds until about mid-late April. The bigger plants are the orange and red watermelons and the cantaloupe is catching up but the yellow watermelon will be our last harvest (but that’s ok because I’ve got a long growing season). This patch gets mostly direct sun but does get shaded at about 6pm and I water twice a day due to how densely everything was planted. Because I’ve never done melons (watermelons specifically), I think I got a little overenthusiastic and over planted so to keep everything nice and healthy, I’ve been watering once in the morning and once in the evening.

While there aren’t any flowers yet, I’m expecting them very soon so stay tuned for an update in a few weeks.
