When they hurt your feelings

Featuring: Indra, Loki, Poseidon, and Hades ( part 2 )

First time doing Indra so some things finna be made up in the peak of Svarga here. So bare with me on it. Loki is a fun character to write so ofc he is in part 2. Poseidon gonna be real easy to do as well so I wanted to add.

Indra

He was calm, stoic and minded his own business most of the time. When he was accepted into the tournament to fight for the final spot in Ragnarok, you were upset. Not happy, but upset.

“Why do you care? It’s not like I care whether I win or lose,” he would speak so casually while puffing on the cigarette like usual. Your eye twitched, you were his wife and he says this?

“Agh, never mind.” You had tried to leave but you just watched you turn on your heels and storm out of the room. The first match was about to begin and you would rather not even be near Indra.

You had found Shiva who was watching the first match by himself. “You got lost?” he asked but you scoffed.

“Huh? No, I’m just… bored.” You stood a bit away from him.

“Well, whatever then.” Two of his arms were propping the back of his head up. You had wondered why he was here. He doesn’t even need to be here.

“Why are you here anyway?” You pursued your lips. Shiva shrugged and sat up a bit while the first match was a bit intriguing with Ra and Cu he still was able to answer.

“Hmm I like the idea of this tournament and also, I want to see how my buddy Indra fight.” Shiva turned his head away to watch the remaining of the fight between Ra and Cu. Buddy eh?

“You don’t care if he dies?” You had asked with slight worry. You can’t deny it since it was allowed to kill your opponent. And his opponent was the red-haired man who looked cocky. You already disliked Suzaku and you hoped Indra beats him.

“That’s the whole part of this. Taking risks. It’s a risk you may die but you could also win. Indra is tough, so stop worrying.” Shiva waved you off. Even his wives weren’t even worried about Shiva being apart of Ragnarok. You were still upset how Indra didn’t care whether he dies.

You wanted to find him and support him now. As you were walking back, you still had worries fill your heart. You saw Indra off in a corner and ran up to him. He raised one brow to you. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have doubted you.” You breathed out. Your cheeks puffed a bit with stubbornness.

“You ran to Shiva, didn’t you?” Indra sighed while he had an arrogant exterior. He didn’t like how you always ran to the other gods to fix your problem. He preferred you to talk it out with him.

“I… I— no! I just saw him,” you flat-out denied it. You weren’t as hurt before but you wanted him to come out of this alive.

He pulled you into his side with his arm squeezing your waist. You almost had jumped from his touch but you eased a bit from the sudden movement. Indra may be an introvert and prefers to be alone most of the time, but he still rather you stay by his side. After all, you were surrounded by gods from every pantheon. He didn’t want to have to fight everyone to keep you next to him.

Loki

Arguing with this man has become second nature. He doesn’t understand that you wanted to have some personal freedom away from Asgard. Loki always spins on you how you’re trying to leave him. Leave? Leave?! This hurt you a bit. How could you leave him? You were growing furious with his accusations.

“Sometimes Thor is more tolerable to be around than you, you should know that.” You have crossed your arms and tried to turn away.

Loki pulled your arm and that’s when you saw the new look in his eyes. It was like he changed in an instant. “Him?! He wouldn’t give you the ounce of care that I have for you, don’t you get it? I can give you whatever you want—” You jerked your arm back.

“I never tried to throw you aside, Loki. You’re always too overprotective and rude towards anyone tries to associate themselves with me.” You crossed your arms and gave him a soft glare.

“Rude? Ha! You’re mixing me up with Huginn and Munnin.” Loki was right about Odin’s ravens being obnoxious at times. You tried to not interact with them. They never shut up and were yappy and said mean things towards you. However, he tried to divert the topic. You tried to leave the room but he noticed the tension between you two was… already bad.

Loki tends to over think his thoughts and assume the worst.

He knew he wasn’t making the matter any better. “Hey! Wait, I shouldn’t have been too harsh,” Loki caught up to you. You clenched your hands into fists but sighed. His accusations can be irritating to you but it’s like he has no faith in you. No trust either.

“I’m just mad because you assume the worst sometimes. I just want to visit some family outside of the castle. It’s been ages so yes, I’m a bit hurt.” You put your foot back down and spun on your heel to face Loki.

“Fine, fine you can visit your family! I wasn’t trying to keep you away from them.” He raised his hands up innocently and gave you a smile. You couldn’t tell if he was trying to trick you into believing he doesn’t care anymore. Deep down he would rather you all to himself but he can’t force you to be with him all the time.

“Whatever, I’m not hurt anymore. When I return you’re going to burn that weird doll of me in your secret room you’ve been hiding for years. It doesn’t even look like me either.” You huffed annoyingly before stomping out of the palace. He was confused with what had happened. He wanted to retaliate but it was a losing battle with you.

You weren't mad or called him the worst names for it? Loki wasn’t sure how to feel about you finding out about that stuff he kept in his secret room. You must’ve found out about that room when you stumbled upon it one day.

He sighed in relief but he was a tad bit disappointed that he had to burn it. Oh well, as long as he had the real thing— you. Nothing would matter more than you to him.

Poseidon

You had tried for many years to impress Poseidon. You weren’t a follower, but you had admired his strength and title of king of the seas. You wanted to be notable like him.

He only acknowledged your existence whenever he treated you as a maid even though you were more than that. You were a goddess but weak in his eyes. There was no going back, no way to prove your worth to him. ‘What an ass,” you thought. You wanted to be something more, but you didn’t know how to prove it.

He would brush your politeness off when you asked if you could stay with him and clean his room. Poseidon snapped his head in your direction. “Why? There’s no need for you in my personal space. You don’t deserve my time.” His words struck like steal into your flesh. Heh? You immediately left afterwards.

Your feelings were incredibly hurt. It’s been several days since that incident and you refused to be around Poseidon. There was no way he would accept you. Any progress was gone and you were back in your room. Alone. Like usual.

You changed your position and decided to be on your own. Apollo saw you casually walking through the Olympus garden admiring the beauty of it. He thought you looked elegant and not some Poseidon simp as he had always thought you were.

“Why are you here?” Apollo tilted his head and you jumped and bowed in his presence. After all, he still has higher authority than you. You liked how you respected them but he could tell something was wrong.

“Sorry if I’m not allowed here, I’ll leave.” You waited for him to speak so you could lift your head.

“Lift your head, dear. Your position is the same as everyone else here unless you’re well… Zeus.” Apollo grimaced and wondered why you were so upset. Little to your knowledge Poseidon saw Apollo approach you moments before and decided to lean against the wall out of sight to hear in what Apollo was trying to do.

“You’re way too beautiful for someone like Poseidon to treat you like this. No need to deny it, I know I’m right.” He could read minds?! Or was it obvious you were just too much of an admirer of Poseidon?

“It’s nothing, I’ll still serve Zeus wherever I’m needed.” You tried to hide the void that Poseidon left on you but Apollo knew you so well even though you barely knew him.

“Hmm, whatever. If you want to serve someone better, you know where to find me.” Apollo swiftly turned on his feet and left out of sight. You fell silent, even though his offer was up in the air. You didn’t want to leave Poseidon still. Why were you feeling such pain still?

You were about to leave the area and when you immediately turned around, the god of the seas stood in front of you unannounced. His eyes lingered over your form and he didn’t say anything. “You want to serve my nephew?” He spoke lowly and you looked down. You were trying to not feel afraid of him.

“N-No, not at all. I only serve you…” your lips quivered.

Poseidon stepped forward and only was mere inches from you. He loathed for what Apollo said but he didn’t take it to the heart. You were too beautiful for someone like him? Maybe you were beautiful, but you weren’t undeserving of him. He refused to believe that. He was going to have a talk with Apollo later.

“Come, I’ll prove Apollo wrong.” He turned away from you. You were nervous and confused. He didn’t look over his shoulder to look at you either. Prove him wrong?

“Don’t make me repeat myself,” he frowned and a glint of hope sparked in your chest. You were happy that he didn’t want to let go of you yet.

Hades

Some monster had tried to kill you again in Helheim. You were mad and wanted to be left alone before you fought the serpent monster to the death. You were strong and Hades admired you for it which was why he was interested in you from the beginning and swayed you into being his wife later on, however, he didn’t like you venturing out without his knowledge. There are far tougher things to worry about than lowly entities that would attack you at any given time.

“What did I say? You’re supposed to tell me if you’re going to leave the castle. Don’t be foolish and reckless next time.” Hades was trying to calm himself but you frowned at his words.

“I am not hurt, why are you mad?” You defended yourself from what he was implying. Did he have any faith in you? He thinks you’d die to something so easy?

“That’s not the point.” He snapped his head at you before sitting back down on his chair.

“Fine, I’ll just be bored here with you then.” You huffed and went to sit alone in a corner. Hades was growing irritated by your stubbornness. He wasn’t restricting your freedom but some areas of Helheim were completely riddled with dangerous monsters.

“My work is not boring, you on the other hand can’t even follow simple orders. It’s just a miracle I keep you alive.” Hades rested his hand on his armrest while he raised his brow to see you reading something about devils. Hades wondered why you wanted to fight them so much. He’d prefer that you stayed away from them.

You were offended by what he said. He went from being a loving husband to ‘it’s a miracle I keep you alive?!’

“You keep me alive because you feel like it? Why don’t you actually kill me right here?” You walked over to him. You thought there was more to it. Why did he want you as his wife then? Another deity who had been in Helheim longer than him and was carefree?

“That is not what I meant!” He stood up as you cowered your head. You didn’t mean to anger him and he was one of the most feared gods to exist. However, this was the first time he had ever raised his tone at you.

It was unusual for any god to be in Helheim. You were one of the few gods that resided in the dark hell hole known as Helheim and learnt how to adapt to it, you chose it over Valhalla for other reasons. You liked how you got to do whatever you wanted, up until Hades took over, and you were surprised that someone had an interest in ruling the netherwold. You had introduced yourself as just another underworld goddess. You never called yourself queen but when he asked if you were the queen of the netherworld, you were taken back. You never thought yourself as one. No, he wanted to make you his queen since that day.

When you remember how Hades became your husband, it wasn’t ever supposed to be like that. He just appeared one day and took over the shit hole while you defended yourself and lived in survival mode. He was also the one who saved you from the Titans that raided Helheim which was how you met him. You owe your life to him and it felt impossible to say no to him to be his wife. You still gave him the love he wanted but was that enough?

You refused to make eye contact with him but walked towards you and pulled you in his arms. “Why did you— Why didn’t you kill me that day? Wouldn’t it have been easier than dealing with me?” You remember the day when the Titans broke into Helheim and he fought them off and saved you from being killed by them. He spared your life despite he didn’t have to.

“No. I saw the look in your eyes. You were afraid. You wanted to live. I haven’t seen such determination in someone’s eyes.” He brushed some of your hair back behind your ear.

“It worries me that I won’t be able to save you a second time. It would be a shame with how lonely it would be without you.” His arms wrapped around your body and you calmed yourself with him holding you.

You were no longer hurt and had accepted this was the love from the man who wanted you more than anything to stay by his side.

Note: that is all for now. Sorry Loki is written as a weird dude like usual. Weird is fun and I like weird broken characters. Dunno when I’ll do part 3. I want to get back to some other things and requests.

I kind of want to either write or read a time travel fix-it fic where it's Tobirama who travels back in time - BUT it's not Tobirama's POV. He's only a side character. It's mainly focused on Madara and Hashirama. Occasionally Mito, Izuna, Touka

This post got real fucking long so here's a read more

Just a really funny fic where you never quite get to see what Tobirama is doing, because he's not the POV character and the other characters don't know/don't pay attention to what he's up to. But like he is doing important stuff yk he's taking advantage of that future knowledge

For example:

Madara and Hashirama meeting at the river. They've figured out/confessed to their respective clans and are discussing peace and who in their clan might or might not support them

Madara asks about Tobirama and Hashirama is like "Hm? Tobirama? Honestly I don't think he cares about the Senju-Uchiha war at all. He's far too occupied with his own war against the mold youkai."

"....The what?"

(It's not too obvious from Hashirama's POV that Tobirama keeps sneakily fucking up Zetsu's machinations, but what's significantly more difficult to ignore is that Tobirama is increasingly getting ambushed by White Zetsu drones ('mold youkai') - that he eliminates with extreme prejudice and alarming fury)

Just, stuff like that. Main plot is making peace, focused on most of the main family EXCEPT Tobirama (who is otherwise occupied and is thus rarely focused on much) and possibly Izuna. So it's all stuff about battles between the Senju and Uchiha, probably having to deal with internal issues as well (Butsuma/Tajima? Elders? Coup/assassination attempts?) and plotting how they could possibly get peace, it's stuff like negotiating with the Uzumaki + Mito's marriage to Hashirama, it's the Uchiha having to deal with one of their allied clans turning on them (barely noticed sub-plot during this where Tobirama is trying to prevent/rectify the sabotage Zetsu did to the Uchiha's fancy tablet), it's about planning for their eventual village (Hashirama finds notes on plumbing on his desk, written in Tobirama's hand - when the fuck did he have time for that? where did he even learn about plumbing?), it's about trying to get the Daimyo on side, it's about all the politics of trying to get other clans to move into the village too, it's about ah fuck bloodline thieves discovered there were plans for a shinobi village in the works and are doing a frantic attempt to kidnap/'harvest' as much as possible before the bloodline clans are too protected in the planned village so now we have to deal with this fucking trafficking ring...

The sub-plot is an Tobiizu fic where Izuna is (correctly) CONVINCED that Tobirama is Up To Something, and (incorrectly) decided it's malicious to the Uchiha et al, and has taken it upon himself to investigate and Stop Tobirama's Evil Plans At All Costs

Longsuffering Tobirama is far too busy for Izuna's bullshit. He's attempting to prevent/stop/counteract Zetsu's machinations, he's trying to kill Zetsu, he's trying to destroy the big old statue (yk the one I mean, idk what it's called, if it has a name), he's trying to make sure the bijuu are all safe and Won't get sealed into jinchuuruki OR the aforementioned statue...

(he gets distracted for a bit with a side project wherein he decides actually it would be really funny for him to convert the cave the big statue was in, into a place for the kyuubi to hang out. that takes him quite a while since he has to run Zetsu out (so many White Zetsu drones...), destroy the statue, alter the place accordingly, and then find and convince the kyuubi that actually this is a great idea - without the kyuubi just fucking eating him)

...he's trying to make life easier for Madara and Hashirama (oh, Butsuma died from a mysterious illness right before he could enact his incredibly stupid plan against the Uchiha? damn. what a shame. anyway-), he's having to reinvent everything he remembers from last time he lived through this shit because whilst some of those jutsus/techniques/inventions (cough, Edo Tensei, cough) aren't strictly necessary, some of them are VERY MUCH NEEDED

That takes. So much time. Luckily Tobirama doesn't have to do all the research over again, since he remembers it and it's incredibly unlikely anyone will call him out on it (....except Mito with regards to certain seals. he very begrudgingly does research and writes notes and invents plausible-mistakes-that-could-have-been-a-first-attempt) so for the most part he can skip straight to inventing or writing out the final project/knowledge

Some of Zetsu's machinations are incredibly annoying to counter, actually. Like at some point the blasted weed installed/had nearly installed a puppet ruler in Land of Water which, what? Why? Urgh

(Please imagine the absolutely incredible amounts of suspicion and incredulous disbelief and paranoia etc that Izuna is aiming Tobirama's way once he (eventually) discovers that the 'White Demon' is seemingly MESSING WITH POLITICS RE: WHO RULES A FOREIGN NATION?!?!?! is nobody else seeing this!! Izuna is NOT CRAZY look at this bullshit somebody needs to stop him-!)

So long story short Tobirama has a LOT on his plate and he is so so incredibly stressed. Somebody help this man. None of this shit is helped by the fact that

a) Zetsu realised very rapidly that someone was fucking with his plans, and promptly started trying to kill Tobirama off, or failing that, sabotage Tobirama's plans in turn

(thus the years long and increasingly violent 'war against mold youkai' that starts when Tobirama is like, ridiculously young, and Hashirama casually mentions to Madara)

b) Izuna. Just, Izuna. He's fucking obsessed with Tobirama (why) and also the most paranoid person ALIVE it sometimes seems, and he just, won't stop, sticking his nose in Tobirama's business, how does he seem to be fucking EVERYWHERE doesn't he have anything else to do it's not like Izuna even knows the shadow clone jutsu how is he doing this why-

(Izuna like. What could possibly be more important to my rival than ME. And anyway he can't possibly be doing anything GOOD so it's for the best I intervene really this is entirely altruistic-)

c) amongst all this, Tobirama still has to somehow maintain at least a vague, plausibly deniable, belief that he's like. A regular person, involved in only normal things. Because if anyone finds out what he's really doing, or what Zetsu really is, or that he's from the future (IZUNA GET YOUR NOSE OUT OF-), then that introduces just. SO MANY new moving parts and this is already fucking complicated enough as it is, alright? Yeah yeah yeah teamwork makes the dream work, two heads are better than one, etc, but this is essentially a war of information and manipulation between Zetsu and Tobirama and when your main power is info+manipulation the fucking LAST thing you want is more moving parts + more people who could leak info/know your info/unintentionally fuck up your (future) knowledge. No. As much as possible he has to do this on his own. Which means he needs to act like he's doing nothing at all. Actually spend time with his family, be seen running normal missions sometimes, help in clan matters, attend the Senju-Uchiha battles when relevant...

Which is all really really hard when there's only so much time in the day. And Zetsu doesn't have to worry about 'spending time with family' or anything so any time Tobirama spends doing that instead of working towards destroying Zetsu's shit is-

(thank fuck Tobirama still remembers how he invented shadow clones, is all he can say. thank fuck for that)

Over time Tobirama increasingly gets a handle on his terrifyingly long to-do list, which means that 'Izuna is being really annoying and following me almost all the time' moves up his priority list. Eventually Tobirama figures out that the easiest way to get Izuna to stop GETTING IN THE GODDAMN WAY is to just. Humour him. Give him attention. Yes yes you are the most important person in my life and all this inconvenient shit is just stopping me from devoting my energy to fighting you now if you could just put that lady over there under a genjutsu and- (Tobirama trying to get Izuna to help un-fuck Land of Water, it only sort of works)

At some point they fuck because Tobirama's stress levels are at an all-time high and he needs SOME sort of outlet. (Could be entirely sane+consensual (relatively. given who we're talking about) or it could be dubcon) and Izuna actually chills the fuck out for an entire ten hours afterwards. Amazing. Clearly they'll have to do this again

So they do

(yandere4yandere tobiizu for the win. Tobirama starts out normal (again, relatively, considering who we're talking about) whilst Izuna approached everything about Tobirama in a completely sideways obsessive way from the start, but Tobirama gradually starts to also get more obsessive/possessive over time. Like what do you mean the one person who has followed me unquestioningly for years and wants to kill me and kissed me yesterday and volunteered to help me fight a bijuu might LEAVE?? no. fuck you)

anyway back to 'things even further complicating Tobirama's life':

optional letter d) Tobirama is trying so hard to seem normal and not like he's from the future or fighting an evil mold-plant-creature that wants to revive his mom from the moon. So, so hard. But alas, facts work against him

Like, I mean, imagine from an in-universe perspective. There's this guy with really weird colouring, he's known as the 'White Demon', he's better at suiton than anyone else alive and if you've seen him even SLIGHTLY try it's terrifying (think: drowning on dry land, sudden rain/storm/tsunami, blood ripped from a dozen bodies in half as many seconds-), there's? more than one of him? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE and he's so fucking hard to kill but even when you kill him he just. doesn't. die. (friendly reminder that Tobirama is abusing shadow clones like nobody's business in an attempt to stay on top of his insane amount of work to do -> yk, the jutsu he invented, that doesn't work like any other clone jutsu, and that in this timeline he has thus far told nobody about. someone destroys a shadow clone and is incredibly alarmed that theres 1) no corpse 2) the White Demon is STILL ALIVE after they KNOW they killed him?!)

There's also rumours about him fighting/negotiating with bijuu, and quite a few witnesses to his ongoing war with 'mold youkai'

The majority of people (excepting like, people he's close to in his own clan, plus Izuna and possibly a few others) aren't sure he ever sleeps or eats or drinks, and wounds don't seem to last long (healing jutsu from the future + whilst he's sleeping/eating his shadow clone(s) are still out and about)

Then there's the insane amount of knowledge and jutsu and inventions he offers-

Long story short on top of everything else, Tobirama doesn't have to deal with people knowing he's from the future or about the whole issue with Zetsu

....He DOES have to deal with basically svery person in existence being 100% convinced he's not human, though

Note: sorry for updating quite late because I'm busy with exams and assignments at that time. And this is the first time I've written headcanons by my second language beside my mother tongue. Hope you enjoy~

⚡️ You have a homework to sketch and paint a god/deity you know or admire. It took you the whole week to make the idea but you haven't finished your sketch until 6 hours before the deadline.

⚡️ "Wish I can see him for real one day... haha such nonsense" You mumbled and laughed at yourself for your sudden ridiculous thought. You decide to leave your room to wash your face.

⚡️ But one thing you couldn't imagine was then the god you've painted comes out of your sketch paper for real?! You heard a noise from your room upstairs and I ran toward to my room immediately.

⚡️ "What on earth...?!" your eyes widened and your jaw dropped when you saw a masculine, well-built but...naked figure in your house :)

⚡️ You don't know it was real or just your daydream but the first thing you did was called the cops. He snapped your house electricity but also the whole town light went out.

⚡️ "You're the one to summon me here" he rubbed his temple and grumbled after having chased you around your house to make you hear what he wanted to say. You had no clue how you could summon him too then you said "Fine, fine...I'll take responsibility to make sure you have a place to live but please don't go around my house with your naked like that" your face was all red and he chuckled as he found you cute ⚡️ Your life turned to a next page when you live with a god whom you unexpectedly summon from your sketch began

Some of y'all are not ready for this conversations... (PART – 1)

1. There was no Sita Swayamvar in reality. Ram just went, broke the bow and Janak decided “yooo son-in-law who?”

2. Mandavi and Shrutakirti (or rather Bharat and Shatrughan's wives) doesn't exists... Even if they did they weren't named such. And Urmila was very briefly mentioned (that also without a proper name)

3. There was no thing called Lakshman Rekha (that story came from Bengal's Krittibasi Ramayan by Krittibas Ojha)

4. Hanuman is not supposed to be a monkey. Non of the Vanar(s) are.

5. There were no Ahiravan or Mahiravan in the actual Ramayan.

6. Ravan. Was. A. Fucking. Rapist. (Honestly if I see one more Ravan was mahan post I'll beat up your family)

7. Ravan gave zero fucks about Surpanakhaa. She needed to lie in order to get him to abduct Sita.

8. Ravan kidnapped Sita purely because of his own lust and nothing else. Also no he wasn't all kind, gentle and respectful towards Sita. He threatened to kill her a lot of times.

9. Ram was mascular as hell.

10. AHALYA. WAS. NOT. A. VICTIM. (my Gods!! Stop giving Indra the L for this one perticular incident, he already got enough. He was in wrong too yes, but it was a well consented from both parties affair. Ahalya very well knew it was Indra disguised as her husband.)

Uhhh.... That's it. That's part 1 ig... I think I'll make more parts later when I get more motivation.

⛈ He and you were fairly close, as the God of Lightning and Rain Storms respectively, you and him spent a lot of time managing the storms that plagued the Earth

⛈ Indra had major respect for you, and he even fought against Rudra and Shiva when they challenged you both, not wanting you to get hurt, he took your place

⛈ You were fairly close with many Hindu Gods, including Varuna, who, by many accounts, could be fairly teasing

⛈ And Indra saw that as a form of flirting (which is technically is, but you get the point)

⛈ He had come home from a nice walk and smoke through Svarga when he heard the familiar laugh coming from Varuna and you in another room

Desperately need to talk about how fatherhood works in the Mahabharata for Surya and Indra with their mortal sons.

Arjuna is known as Indra's child. His most common epithets (related to familial lineage) largely come from his mother, but it is openly understood that he is Indra's child. Indra helps him out so many times and it's wholesome as hell.

Then you have Karna, who is not acknowledged as Surya's son, and Surya keeps Kunti's secret either out of duty or regret (for leaving a child with a baby, that is). So his help is next to nothing for most of Karna's life. And then the event comes when his brother is about to take away his son's armour, the only protection he has been able to offer this boy, and he knows Karna will give it away but he goes to dissuade him anyway. When he comes, in most versions, he says he comes to aid an ardent devotee. In BORI he says that there is a secret he cannot reveal, but he is here to warn Karna out of love.

And it stands out to me so much, that from Karna's perspective, he meets his father through years of devotion and prayer, because you can tell he thinks of Surya as his mentor and spiritual guide, and Adhiratha as his father. He has next to no qualms in claiming Radha as his mother even after he is told the truth, and his reaction to Kunti being his mother is not dissimilar.

And then this god shows up, does not even bother to reveal that he is his father (I imagine Karna must have been pretty peeved when he found out - in a "you could've just told me when you visited" way) and asks him to let go of the one thing he takes great pride in. Even there too, there is a great deal of respect for agency: Karna is firm and Surya compromises. If they'd had a few more chances to interact, I think they would work out pretty well.

And then you have Arjun and Indra, so beautifully entwined, so beloved and so dear. Indra helping Arjuna is seen as interference (and rightly so), but there is something so paternal about how Indra desperately tries to protect his child - depending on the version he (not necessarily chronologically):

a) mitigates the Urvashi curse,

b) sends out the Gandharvas to heckle the Kauravas

c) bestows divine counsel upon his son

d) gives him a great bow after getting thrashed

e) turns into an insect and gets Karna cursed.

And most importantly, he shows up at a MORTAL'S door, CLAIMING TO BE A BRAHMAN (which is, again depending on version, one of reasons why said mortal got cursed), declines offers of land and money and girls, and shamelessly demands the armour. A KING. REDUCED TO A BEGGAR.

Because remember, technically Brahman's are given state funding for their research, education, priesthood, or simply their birth. Indra does none of these. He knows this. Karna knows this. He knows that Karna knows this. But he demands it anyway.

Obviously, Karna's devotion to the Sun God, and the fact the said god is his father is a narrative device meant to represent his arc of reaching for the sun and getting burned (in most cases, at least), while Arjuna's relation to Indra and his rain motifs is because narratively he peaks at terminal velocity and then freefalls to the earth as soon as Krishna dies.

But I love thinking of what their respective relations to their fathers must have been, and how it mirrors/contrasts Kunti's relationship with the gods. Kunti calls Indra and he does what she wants (for him to give her a baby), and is able to support their child in most cases. Surya is called and he does not do what Kunti wants (for him to leave immediately), and his relationship with their son is one of distance and endurance. But they are good fathers still, as good as god can be. (Except Surya with Shani. Idk what's going on there).

Anyway I forgot what point I was trying to make... but yeah!

Can you tell us something about the white mouse? I was always curious about her poem, where he talked about a bridge and two lovers. Does she really love Sanzang?

Why did he once choose to call himself Half Guanyin? Do you think he was jealous of her?

I watched an episode of JTTW 2011 and I liked that they tried to explain that her obsession with Tripitaka was because he fed her when she was a mouse. But I know that was fiction.

For me, she is in love. But I would like to hear someone else's opinion.

Personally, I truly 100% believe she didn’t love him she wanted to have sex with him for immortality and tried to make it look like love. It looks like her goal was to be a golden immortal of Grand Monad by taking Sanzang... though her seduction static does say how she proclaimed love for him I highly doubt that she chose him because of his 'personality.' I think any kind of 'love' or 'romance' mention is more for the sake of showing how she is a picture of temptation that anyone would follow her willingly as opposed to the idea that she could rape a man to get her way.

She was able to seduce at least 6 monks in the three days they were resting at the temple and ate them as well so she might not have been too hung up about Sanzang either.

I find one interesting where she was talking more about sex with Sanzang and trying to convince him to 'unify' their 'marriage' that Sanzang gave her a red peach and took a green peach from her. Red often being seen as a form of desire, not just lust but can be, and how Sanzang is letting go of desire itself rather than being consumed by desire himself.

I found the poem you were talking about! (took me a while). I truly believe that this is more of her way of expressing her shock when Sanzang misled her under Wukong's instructions. Wukong just told Sanzang to talk her outside so he can get the upper hand and Sanzang had to play along for his own protection. We have seen this before with other antagonists, such as the Scorpion Demon and the Queen of Women's Country, where they are willing to hold Sanzang hostage but don't seem to be willing to take with without consent and therefore try to seduce him. As such it is framed as 'love' and 'romance' when really they are trying to act as if they aren't keeping him as a tool to be used. Lady Earth Flow thought she succeeded in seducing the monk when he gave her the peach but really it was a way for Wukong to get in her belly and nearly beat her to death.

Before this, she was already calling him 'husband' and thus his 'betrayal' is more of her expressing shock that her tactics didn't work. She is referencing another tragic love story to describe her own despite that there weren't any mutual feelings. It does seem she is GENUINE in that she does want Sanzang to love her but I truly don't think that her love comes from a place of genuineness but more for the sake of her selfish desires.

She is called Half Guanyin not because she is jealous but rather to show how much she wants to be an immortal and on par with the Buddha and Guanyin. She only calls herself that because she stole precious Candles from Vulture Peak showing she wants the same respect and yearning for the status of the Buddha and Guanyin.

I can say in my own opinion that she was absolutely trying to use Sanzang since she has been luring other monks and murdering them as well. I will say that I think she was fond of him, for sure, but I feel that most of the female demons were similarly fond as they did not wish to harm the monk but also didn't give him a choice in saying no. Props to her for at least trying to give him a meal he would like and treating him well that is far better than the Spider Demon or the Scorpion Demon at least.

2011 is a fantastic show because they give their characters depth, and don’t have the yaoguai just as one-dimensional villains. Most of the demons in Xiyouji are flat characters as they make their goals clear from the start and are framed in a more monster-of-the-week format with few exceptions. I think 2011 was very clever in that they took Lady Earth Flow from the novel and saw how she does value loyalty (to her family Nezha and Li Jing) and how she tries to make Sanzang comfortable (vegan food and expressing the importance of love and human desire) and is able to frame her as a more round character with her own wants and desires outside of power. She is a love-sick and slightly obsessive woman who knows that she could never have a chance with Sanzang willingly as he is devoted to his mission but can't live with herself if she doesn't even try. It takes what is already there and expands on it to make her more sympathetic without excluding her actions from the book (though I'm not sure if the show has her killing those 6 monks).

I think she was infatuated with him in the book and maybe wanted to call it love but I don't think there is any real reason to think she fell for him if he didn't have that "become an immortal if you sleep with me" pass. And only trying to get with something for something so transactional doesn't seem to be 'love' in my eyes as more she would have tried this with any monk and just so happens that Sanzang is a handsome and kind man that she also was fond of and tried to be as polite as possible in her kidnapping.

IM BACK! Pushing myself to do some one shots again. I was gonna add Wukong but then I realize we know Jack shi about him. Suzaku was added cuz there’s more lore to him now I can go off of.

Warning that these are short parts how jealous they are when I’m relationships.

Indra

He’s the silent type. Normally if he’s feeling a tinge of jealousy, he starts to turn into the passive aggressive type when he’s not sure about something. Also, he’s the observant one.

Even though he trusts you, however, he doesn’t trust others. This is why he prefers if you two lived alone and away from others in solitary. Not that he dislikes his crew, he likes his alone space.

When any of his friends makes suggestive comments about you, he immediately tenses up. It sometimes would grow into tension between him and them. He’d threaten them to back off what is his.

Indra normally keeps his cool, it’s rare to see him jealous or expressive about his emotions.

The other gods normally didn’t want to test Indra by flirting with you. What kind of reaction would they endure? It was a mystery still. He keeps to himself.

Even if you tried to get him jealous of purpose, he normally shrugs at your attempts. He finds it cute that you liked trying to get a reaction out of him. No other god would steal you away from him even if they tried.

Cu Chulainn

He 100% gets fired up when other men flirt with you. He reminds them you’re already with someone and that someone is him. He was also too known to be messed with.

You’d always remind him how no one could steal your attention, but he’d pout and lose his patience at times. Mostly leading him to storm out of the house to be alone.

Sometimes your reassurance isn’t enough. However, he always finds himself returning back to you and acting like nothing is wrong. His mood swings would confuse you sometimes.

However, despite wanting to kill some of them for even trying to, even though it’s flattering how your beauty was captivating. He always knew he has the victory prize– you, while they don’t.

He’d silently smirked as you were always there following him. At least you were his loyal girlfriend.

As the same for you, even though he was quite the captivating soy boy in town, he only had eyes on you. He didn’t care for the other women.

Suzaku

Being a part of the Chinese pantheon and knowing Suzaku, you also were acquainted with his 3 friends, Genbu, Seiryu and Byakko. Though, sometimes Suzaku would feel a smudge jealous of how close you were to them as well. Although, he’d always hide his feelings and not convey his emotions about it.

Suzaku would normally fall silent whenever you talked to the other Chinese gods from the same pantheon. This was a sign he was upset when he played the quiet game.

He’d even question in his head whether you were losing interest in him. Was he boring? Do you like Byakko? Nezha? Why would you like that god-droid? He also liked observing from a distance.

However, you were just an annoying chatterbox that talked to others. Maybe he was overreacting? Which seemed to be that way.

He was always very kind and polite to you even when he showed slight insecurities which is rare. Jealousy was not a good trait for him and it’s rare to tick him off. He had to put more faith in you in the end, but it was rare to disappoint him. You were always returning to him after all.
