Then the word of the LORD came to me: “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done?” declares the LORD. “Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.” (Jeremiah 18:1‭-‬6 ESV)

“My friend, God is not playing with us today. He is not experimenting. He has purpose in how He is shaping us, and that comforts me. He has a plan, and He knows what He is doing. When God puts us on the wheel of circumstance, He means to accomplish something. He has a purpose.

The onlooker can’t guess His purpose, neither can the clay under His hand. But someday we will know. “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” - (1 John 3:2)

That’s going to be a fair morning, a new day! God will be vindicated, because He is not being cruel when He causes you to suffer. Some glorious day, you’ll see the Potter had a purpose in your life. In the ages to come we’ll be on display, revealing what the Potter can do with lifeless clay. He gets the glory. It will be wonderful to be a vessel in the Master’s hand.” —Dr. J. Vernon McGee

God doesn't allow us to struggle just so that we can struggle. In our struggle, our faith deepens as we actively see the character, the face, and the hand of God actively and personally. In our struggle, we are met with the realizations that God is neither shallow or far away, but that He is awe-inpiring, very present, and deeply committed to us.

[1] Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.” [2] “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” [3] The next morning Abraham got up early. He saddled his donkey and took two of his servants with him, along with his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. [4] On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. [5] “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham told the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then we will come right back.” [6] So Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac’s shoulders, while he himself carried the fire and the knife. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT). [5] “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. [6] Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

“We may not always understand God's plans, but if we choose to trust Him, blessing will follow.”

“We won’t always understand how God is going to accomplish His plans. All He asks is that we surrender our will to His and trust that He’ll show us the way (Proverbs 3:5-6). Abraham’s willingness to give up what was most precious to him came from his unyielding faith in the Lord’s trustworthiness.

However, if you tell God no because He won’t explain why He wants you to do something, you actually hinder His blessing. But when you say yes to the Lord, He will pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit. Obeying the Lord naturally positions us to receive what He’s already trying to give us. But when we fail to trust Him and refuse to do what He says, we’re the ones choosing to close ourselves off from some of the good God would have accomplished in our life.

What has the Lord told you to do? Have you only partially cooperated? Or have you, like Abraham, given up your need to understand and obeyed completely?

If God says to give more than you think you’re able to part with, know that He will provide. Whether things are running smoothly or the bottom has dropped out, He is always trustworthy.”

God does have a plan. Bad things can happen to everybody, even Christians but as Christians we need to trust that he knows what is best and has a greater plan even if we don't understand it.
