Unpopular opinions about religion (from an atheist)
- If you need god and hell to stop you from “sinning”, maybe you’re just actually not a good person???
- The bible is fake and it has been proven that it has been rewritten many times over the centuries to match what people want it to say
- The only anti-abortion arguments are based on religious beliefs meaning that if we truly had separation of church and state it would not be a political topic, just a personal choice not to get one yourself
- The pledge of allegiance says “one nation, under god” so no one should be forced to say it if they don’t believe in it, in any setting
- They anti-LGBT+ arguments are also entirely based on religion so again shouldn’t be a political topic
- Putting god and trump in the same photo is literally against the commandments (2. Thou shalt not make false idols) so the conservative extremists who say they are christian but idolize trump are going against the their own bible
- Children shouldn’t be forced to be the same religion or religious at all until they can make choices for themselves
- Religious people should not be in healthcare if they cannot separate personal opinions/choices from what the job requires. Healthcare professionals need to base their practice on evidence based care, patient needs and science
- Churches should be taxed
- Being able to claim religious beliefs as a reason not to get vaccinated is why so many people have gotten sick or died
- Addiction and prison rehabilitation is often attributed to “finding god” so again if god is the only reason you are good, maybe you just aren’t a that good of a person (addiction is a disease and should be treated as such)
- It’s literally so delusional to believe that some higher power created all of existence
- Again saying you hear or see god is just visual or auditory hallucinations indicating mental illness
- Being an atheist I live so freely with no religious guilt or desire to please some made up person. I still treat all people with care and respect because I have the desire to be good for no one but myself and those around me
- If there was a god why doesn’t he answer prayers? I prayed for most of my childhood to stop being molested by my sister and he never once answered. Now I live with cPTSD and depression because of it and I am not the only one
- Religion stops people from acting without bias and it costs many lives
- World peace could have been a thing if there was no religion to start wars and separate people
- Saying “all lives matter” but then turning around and voting for trump is a contradiction because his policies don’t include all lives
Just my opinion tho🤷🏼‍♀️

Imagine building entire buildings to worship your lame fanfiction character. Like girlypop, your fanfic is flawed af and honestly pretty boring and misogynistic. Stop pretending like your fiction is our reality.

Disclaimer, before I get into this: I do not believe a god of any kind exists. Some people believe the god of the Bible exists as a single entity among many other entities, and to that I say, to each their own. I personally do not hold that belief, so when I talk about what god could have done or what god is and isn’t, this is in a purely hypothetical sense. It is to draw attention to the inconsistencies in the way the Christian god is presented, in hopes that his followers might recognize a bit of their cognitive dissonance and realize they could look at things a lot more objectively.
Moving on~
The following image is a screenshot of part of a post I made last week. The entire thing is not relevant to this specific discussion, so I’ve only included two specific paragraphs, although if you’d like to read the whole thing I can post it here too. (The image description is in the alt text.)
Tumblr media
In the comment section of this post, a Christian woman replied:
Tumblr media
I’m going to break down these analogies because I am seriously so sick of seeing people repeat them as if they actually make any sense at all.
To start, her analogy of the lion’s den is omitting the fact that my hypothetical father in this scenario not only created the den and put the lions in it, but then also put me into it. Then he saved me, and expected me to be grateful and worship him and decide “wow, he saved me so I guess he must love me pretty much! guess that means I have to follow every rule he sets for me now!” She also makes it sound as if there are only two choices: worship this convoluted father with a praise kink, or else jump back into the pit of lions. When in reality, what’s stopping me from simply walking away from it all? Is the den and the ground around it the only thing that exists in this world? Because I would assume if I keep walking, I would keep finding ground to walk on. And eventually I’d come to a place where my father isn’t, and I’d probably just stay there.
In the second comment she uses the example of a couple who decided to set boundaries in their relationship. Right off the bat, this argument is completely invalidated by the simple fact that there is no equal partnership between a person and “God”. There is a massive power imbalance, in which no form of equality can ever exist. Even setting that to the side, though, we need to acknowledge that these are not “boundaries”, in the sense that all parties must abide by them or else part ways. They are rules, and only the non-God party has to follow them.
In a separate post I made a while ago about my issues with the god of the Bible, I brought up the fact that the true biblical God cannot be loving. He supposedly led the nation of Judah on a colonization campaign through the ancient Middle East, giving them full permission to slaughter entire cities, take all their shit, and keep their women as slaves. I said that I cannot in good conscience follow a god who says murder is wrong, but then explicitly instructs his “chosen people” to murder thousands upon thousands of people just because they were “gentiles” living on the land promised to them by that same god. In the comments of that post, another woman said this, which is a very common belief in Christianity:
Tumblr media
This is why I hate the concept of “sin” as a whole. It’s not bad because it’s bad, it’s bad because god said so. Which means he can also say something completely different, and that makes it okay but just for him. Murder isn’t murder when god kills someone. Stealing isn’t stealing if god said you could have it. Rape isn’t rape if god told you that you could keep that woman as a slave.
So in the analogy of a woman and her partner, these are not boundaries like “we can’t hit each other or fight, we can’t lie to each other or cheat”. They are rules that say “you can’t hit me or talk back, you can’t keep things from me or leave this relationship. but me? I can do whatever I want”.
The god of the Bible is not a loving deity. He is a control freak who is perfectly happy to let you suffer for all eternity if you decide you don’t like the way he runs things. I see a lot of Christians in my comments constantly, telling me that god didn’t decide to punish you for not loving him. It’s just a natural consequence; if you decide to be separated from him, his protection doesn’t work and that’s why it’s torment.
To that I always say, why? Why did god make a reality in which his protection only extends to those who worship him? Why did he make it so that we have to suffer if we’re apart from him? He’s all-powerful right? So couldn’t he have created a reality in which, whether you liked him or not, the outcome was the same? All people, regardless of faith, had an afterlife that didn’t torture them? I don’t know if it’s just that Christians have no imagination or what, because I can conceive of multiple ways in which suffering simply wouldn’t have to exist if I had made the world.
Of course the response I always get is “But you’d have to take people’s choice! We’d be robots!” And again I ask, why? God could have made it so that we could all only make choices within the bounds of what does not harm ourselves or others. He could’ve made it so that greed and hate and apathy simply didn’t exist in people’s minds, if he wanted to. And sure, maybe you’d say it isn’t fair to keep people from being able to make those choices. But I would say that in this hypothetical reality, we wouldn’t know the fucking difference. We would be happy. Everyone would have what they needed, no one would ever suffer.
Anyway, “free will” within Christianity does not exist. You cannot give true consent in an imbalanced power dynamic, or when saying “no” is unsafe, and god meets both those conditions.
This whole thing is another great example of how Christians actively believe a whole lot of directly conflicting things, but the indoctrination keeps them from seeing it.

why is religious Christmas imagery all so joyful and pleasant? where is the inherent horror of the birth of Christ? A mother is handed her newborn child, wailing and innocent. Her hands come away sticky. Red. Simply by giving her son life she has already killed him. He is doomed from the beginning. Her love will not save him from suffering. Because the thing cradled in her arms is not a baby, it is a sacrifice: born amongst the other bleating animals whose blood will one day be spilled in the name of what demands it. the night is silent with anticipation. Mary, did you know? That your womb was also a grave?

Some of you, not all of you but some of you fuckass motherfuckers don't seem to understand.
God is real
But not in the sense that the sexist city destroying world deleting homophobic cunt actually has any power to answer your prayers and or make miracles happen.
God or more accurately the Abrahamic God-
(I know there are others but these jokes work better with the funny shrimp denier in the sky don't worry about it kitten)
-is what I would consider essentially a meme given too much power a fictional being people have convinced themselves exist
The god meme works based on the premise that if you don't believe in this God meme/ don't do what people say the God meme says then you will go too hell and burn forever
and if you believe/do the things people say the god meme tells you to do then you go to heaven forever (yippee)
The carrot and the stick essentially
The God meme thrives in echo chambers and amongst reactionary people who don't take the time to consider all the logical fallacies that come with the God meme
It is especially effective towards children because children tend to be gullible
Of course due to the nature of humans and the fact that everyone's experience with the God meme tends to differ
once the God meme has been around long enough we'll slowly start to see different groups of people believe in different versions of what the God meme says
This leads too conflict
You see if someone has been infected by a God meme that says 'Don't eat shrimp'
and someone else has been infected with a God meme that says 'you have to eat shrimp'
and both say that if you don't follow their specific set of rules you go too hell
well
we get conflict
hellish conflict
You see once someone who has the God meme lodged firmly in their skull realizes that a certain group of people are going too hell forever for not following their God meme. well the moral choice would be to spread the God meme further
The problem arises when those people think the same but for a different God meme, a different set of rules
Then what that person sees is suddenly, not a group of people who need too be saved, but a group of people actively condemning other people to hell forever and vice versa.
You can imagine the consequences
So
what the fuck are we to do about this?
What be the cure to the God virus?
Well the short answer is teaching the people afflicted about the scientific method and all the logical fallacies that come with believing in God
long answer
No God can be proven to exist anyone who tells you other wise is either lying or ignorant or both confirmation bias is really effective on religious people.
Most of the time pointing out that all the other religions have just as much proof as each other goes a long way towards making people think for them selves
(This also works for the Roko's basilisk because its just pascals wager for edgy Redditt atheists)
The argument 'Well my religion is diffrent because we do this diffrently than everyone else' doesn't work
doesn't make the likelihood of your specific version of the God meme being the right one any higher.
Religious experiences like seeing god or meeting a demon or whatever you think you've experienced can be harder to lodge from your brain
(It should be noted that literally every religion (yes even the false ones) have records and accounts of people seeing their God or a demon or having a prayer answered)
The supernatural miracles and God are by definition impossible therefore it is always and I mean fucking always going to be the least likely explanation
What's more likely Jesus Christ himself, holy holes and all showed up in your dream and told you to do x. Or it could have been just a dream about a topic that is widely spread and talked about a lot in popular culture. It might as well have been fucking Adam Sandler showing up.
Dreams are literally things that aren't real happening inside your brain
Or maybe you were fully awake when you saw god descend from the heavens and tell you to start doing x.
Whats more likely that it was God or that you hallucinated all of it
one short google search will tell you that hallucinating once or twice in a life time can be quite common even when its not born out of stress or drugs or you being an undiagnosed schizophrenic or lack of sleep or hell maybe your brain just decided to malfunction for a short moment and never did anything unusual ever again.
I mean fuck me people it doesn't even have to be a hallucination maybe someone just decided to fuck with you.
What's more likely you praying God will cure your cancer caused him to ignore all the other cancer patients, children with malaria, fucking world hunger, just to cure your scrawny ass.
Or the doctors could have misdiagnosed you. or maybe the chemotherapy worked or like a fuck ton of other reason
All of these things are more likely than a miracle, God, or the supernatural.
Which need I remind you are by definition impossible
My point being that you have to rule out literally fucking EVERYTHING before you can even think about thinking about the fact that it might have been God
Even if its one in a trillion as long as its possible its still more likely than God miracles or the supernatural.
And even then after you have definently 100 precent ruled out
every. single. fucking. explanation. EVER.
You still cant be sure it was your God.

I love a reunion kiss as much as anybody else but I feel like we're skipping over the more important part. coming back to life after more than two years is a five-minute-reunion-hug-worthy event I would say. also I saw something that said ethari has grown his hair out during this meantime which obviously makes me insane
